Shirahige Falls

#summervacay

Shirahige Falls , meaning “White Beard Waterfall”, is one of Hokkaido’s most serene natural treasures. Located in Biei, near its famous Blue Pond, the falls offer breathtaking views in all seasons. Water emerges from underground channels carved by volcanic rock and plunges about 30 meters into the cobalt-blue water of the Biei River, named “Blue River” for its vivid hue caused by suspended aluminum particles. The cascading white streams resemble a flowing beard, giving rise to the name Shirahige, literally “white beard.”
