🏛 Chengdu Museum Visitor Guide

🏛 Overview & Background
• Chengdu Museum is the leading city-level, comprehensive museum in Chengdu and Southwest China.
• The museum’s new building opened in 2016, replacing the old location, and is located on the west side of Tianfu Square in Qingyang District.
• Architecturally, it features a striking façade clad in roughly 20,000 m² of copper mesh panels, designed to evoke the “gold-inlaid jade” aesthetic — when sunlight hits it, the museum glows.
• Structurally, it includes seismic-resistant design (an isolation layer and over 300 rubber bearings) to protect artifacts from earthquake damage.

⏰ Hours & Visitor Limits
• Opening hours:
 • Tue, Wed, Thu, Sun: 9:00 – 17:00 (last admission 16:30)
 • Fri & Sat: Extended hours — open until 20:30 (last entry at 20:00) to support “Weekend Children’s Museum” programs.
 • Closed Mondays (except public holidays).
• The museum caps daily visitors at 20,000 to ensure a quality experience.
• Peak visiting hours: ~10:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00.

🎟 Tickets & Admission
• Admission is free, but reservation is required via the museum’s official channels.
• Reserving in advance is strongly advised, especially on weekends or holidays.
• Some temporary or special exhibitions may require additional tickets or separate booking.

🏛 Museum Layout & Suggested Route

The museum spans B1 to 6F, with a wide range of permanent and special exhibitions. Suggested order: 2F → 3F → 4F → 5F → 6F → 1F → B1
• 2F–3F: Ancient Sichuan and archaeological relics (bronzes, pottery, jade).
• 4F: Modern history & folk culture of Chengdu.
• 5F: Chinese Shadow Puppetry Museum (皮影戏), showcasing performances and intricate shadow art.
• 6F: Traditional tea house for cultural rest and relaxation.
• 1F: Rotating thematic exhibitions.
• B1: Natural history & animal world exhibition.

🚇 How to Get There & Transport
• Metro access: The museum is accessible via Chengdu Metro Lines 1 & 2, at Tianfu Square Station (exit West 1).
• Bus / Surface transport: Nearby roads have multiple bus lines (e.g. routes 13, 30, 43, 47, 64, 78) connecting to West Yujie or surrounding streets.
• Because the museum is centrally located on Tianfu Square, it’s also walkable from surrounding landmarks like the Sichuan Science & Technology Museum, provincial library, and art museums.

💡 Tips for Visitors
• Plan ~2–3 hours to explore fully.
• The shadow puppet section (5F) is unique
