Wat Suan Dok

Wat Suan Dok, officially known as Wat Buppharam Maha Vihara, is one of Chiang Mai's significant temples. Located on Suthep Road, it is not far from the city center and Chiang Mai University. The temple boasts stunning Lanna architecture and holds historical importance.

This temple was built in the 14th century by King Kue Na to enshrine the sacred relics brought from Sukhothai. It became a central hub for Buddhism during that era.

The highlight of Wat Suan Dok is the large white Lanka-style chedi, which stands gracefully in the temple courtyard. Surrounding it are numerous smaller white chedis that house the ashes of northern royal family members and other notable figures from the past. This area exudes a mystical and tranquil atmosphere.

Additionally, the temple features the main vihara, which enshrines "Phra Chao Kao Tue," a revered Buddha statue of Chiang Mai. Locals often visit to pay respects and seek blessings for good fortune.

The overall ambiance of Wat Suan Dok is serene and shaded, with a gentle breeze making it ideal for meditation or exploring Lanna art up close. The temple also offers a Monk Chat program for tourists interested in learning about Buddhism directly from monks.
