🏯 Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Mai is one of the most historically striking temples in the ancient city of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in the late 14th century during the Lanna Kingdom, its name translates to "Temple of the Great Stupa." The central structure was once a magnificent stupa towering 90 meters high, which is said to have housed one of Thailand's most sacred relics, the Emerald Buddha. In 1545, an earthquake caused the stupa's spire to collapse, but the remaining base and elephant sculptures still showcase the grandeur of Lanna architecture. The temple also houses the famous city pillar (Lak Mueang), a statue of the Supreme Patriarch, and a "sacred tree" believed to possess spiritual significance. This site is not only a vital religious location but also a must-visit destination to experience the historical depth and artistic heritage of Chiang Mai.
