Chiang Mai. Due North

Chiang Rai is the northernmost point of Thailand. A completely different world. It's quiet, no traffic, and the air is fresh. It can be cool in winter. There was snowfall in 2021. Activities include rafting, tea fields, and unique temples (white and blue). I wouldn't say it's an incredibly interesting place. But if you're in the north, it's definitely worth a visit.
