The first floor of the exhibition building features exhibits on Hakata's history and culture.
The second floor displays folk tools passed down through merchant families and offers demonstrations of Hakata's traditional crafts.

The day we visited, there was a Hakata Hariko demonstration.
Hakata Hariko is a painstaking process of pasting washi paper onto a mold with handmade glue and then coloring it.

I was delighted to see so many different pieces, including a cute sea bream hariko and a tiger hariko, a gift given to celebrate the birth of a baby boy.
