Guangzhou 2-Day Special Forces Travel Itinerary

I think three days is more suitable for Guangzhou, but I only have one weekend, so the itinerary is as follows:

Day 1:

【1】Museum of the Nanyue King
The Museum of the Nanyue King is divided into two exhibition areas: the royal tomb and the royal palace. I visited the royal tomb exhibition area. The Nanyue Kingdom was the first feudal kingdom in the Lingnan region.

【2】Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Built with funds raised by the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Construction started in 1929 and was completed in 1931. The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is located on the site of the presidential palace when Sun Yat-sen served as the Extraordinary President. The presidential palace was leveled by artillery fire during Chen Jiongming's rebellion.

【3】Guangxiao Temple
Before Yangcheng, there was Guangxiao. In 527 AD during the Southern Dynasties, Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism, came all the way from India and arrived in Guangzhou, staying at Wangyuan Temple. Therefore, Guangxiao Temple is regarded as the birthplace of Chinese Zen Buddhism.

【4】Chen Clan Ancestral Hall
The ancestral hall is exquisitely and luxuriously built, integrating Lingnan wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, pottery, gray sculpture, bronze and iron casting, and painting crafts. A few years ago, I saw photos of Chen Clan Ancestral Hall while transferring in Guangzhou. That’s when I became interested in Guangzhou.

【5】Shamian Island
Shamian Island covers an area of 0.3 square kilometers. The neighborhood has more than 150 European-style buildings of various styles. After the outbreak of the Second Opium War, the British and French invaders forced the Governor-General of Liangguang to lease Shamian under the unequal Treaty of Tianjin.

【6】Yanjiang West Road
Home to the Guangdong Customs, Tower Shadow Building, former Guangdong Postal Administration, Southern Building, and Xinhua Hotel.

【7】Party Pier
A great place to enjoy the city night view, where you can see the iconic Canton Tower, Liede Bridge, and the Zhujiang New Town CBD area.

Day 2:

【1】Former Site of the Whampoa Military Academy Memorial Hall
The Whampoa Military Academy was China’s first school to train revolutionary military officers, established over a century ago.

【2】Tomb of the 72 Martyrs of Huanghuagang
On April 27, 1911, the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance led by Sun Yat-sen launched an uprising in Guangzhou to overthrow the Qing Dynasty. Lin Juemin wrote his farewell letter "Letter to My Wife" a few days before participating in the Huanghuagang Uprising.

【3】Site of the First National Congress & Chun Yuan
The First National Congress decided on the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
Chun Yuan was the residence of the representatives of the First National Congress.

【4】Guangzhou Uprising Martyrs Cemetery
After the April 12 Incident, the Guangzhou Uprising broke out. The Guangzhou Uprising Martyrs Cemetery is the city’s red bloodline. Zhou Wenyong and Chen Tiejun, who participated in the Guangzhou Uprising, were involved in the "wedding on the execution ground." A few months after the uprising failed, both were arrested due to betrayal.

【5】Former Site of the Peasant Movement Training Institute
The former Panyu Academy, where Chairman Mao established the Peasant Movement Training Institute.

【6】Former Site of the First National Congress of the Kuomintang
Organized by Sun Yat-sen, it established the policy of "allying with Russia and the Communist Party to support peasants and workers," realizing the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
