Arriving at Ngong Ping Village
Upon reaching Ngong Ping Village, we were greeted by a charming blend of traditional Chinese architecture, teahouses, and tranquil courtyards. The village also has several vegetarian eateries, ideal for a meal before or after visiting the Big Buddha. Inspired by Buddhist traditions, these restaurants serve wholesome plant-based dishes featuring fresh tofu, mushrooms, and seasonal vegetables—simple yet nourishing food that perfectly complements the peaceful surroundings.

The Ascent to the Big Buddha
As we approached the base of the 268-step staircase, the sheer presence of the Big Buddha became even more striking. Though visible from afar, nothing compared to standing beneath the massive bronze figure, gazing up at its solemn expression and outstretched hand—a symbol of compassion and wisdom.
Climbing the steps was more than just a physical effort; with each upward stride, the noise of the world below seemed to fade. Upon reaching the summit, we stood before the Buddha, its serene gaze turned northward toward Beijing. The atmosphere was one of quiet reverence, enhanced by the cool mountain air and the faint scent of incense drifting from Po Lin Monastery below.

A View Like No Other
From this vantage point, the scenery stretched in every direction—rolling green hills, the sacred monastery at its base, and beyond, the endless expanse of the South China Sea. The combination of natural beauty and spiritual presence made the site feel almost otherworldly, a sanctuary where time seemed to slow.
Unlike many iconic landmarks, the Big Buddha required no admission fee—only the willingness to make the journey. In a city known for its neon lights and bustling streets, this sacred retreat offered something rare: a space for reflection, where faith and nature merged into a moment of quiet transcendence.
