Tongren 5-Day Slow Living | Fanjing Mountain's Sea of Clouds, Miao Village Charm, and Cave Wonders All in One Trip!
Friends, Tongren is definitely an underrated gem in Guizhou! It boasts beautiful mountains and rivers, rich culture, and low consumption. I personally tested a 5-day, 4-night itinerary that cost less than 1,000 RMB, offering incredible value for money! 👍
✨ Must-Visit Attractions
1. Fanjing Mountain
A UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, shrouded in mist like a fairyland! Take the cable car up the mountain, then hike to explore Mushroom Stone and Red Cloud Golden Summit. If you're lucky, you might even see the sea of clouds and Buddha's light. Remember to wear non-slip shoes and a jacket, as the temperature difference at the summit is significant.
2. Miao King City
A fantastic place to experience Miao culture! Watch Miao song and dance performances, try on ethnic costumes for photos, and even experience making Ciba (glutinous rice cake). The village gate conceals traps, and the watchtower overlooks the valley, making it incredibly unique.
3. Jiulong Cave
A massive karst cave, with stalactites looking incredibly dreamy under the lights. Inside, there's also a "Dragon King's Throne" stone pillar.
4. Tongren Ancient City
A 600-year-old ancient city with charming bluestone paths and ancient buildings. It comes alive at night with intangible cultural heritage performances, public stages, creative markets, and food stalls.
5. Yamugou
Known as "Guizhou's First Valley," with over 97% forest coverage, it's a "natural oxygen bar." This year, new water activities like water swings and valley cliff diving have been added, making it a refreshing and fun place to escape the summer heat!
🍜 Foodie Guide
Tongren cuisine is mostly sour and spicy, which is appetizing and satisfying!
· Sour Fish Soup: Fresh fish paired with sour soup made from fermented rice, offering a sour, spicy, and savory flavor.
· Silk Doll: Thin pancakes wrapped with ingredients like Houttuynia cordata and shredded radish, dipped in a secret spicy sauce. Commonly found on the streets.
· She Fan (She Rice): Wild mugwort and diced cured meat cooked with rice, offering a refreshing and non-greasy taste.
· Youxiangba (Oil-Fragrant Cake): Rice batter fried into golden cups, filled with pickled vegetables and diced beans, crispy and crumbly.
· Miancaiba (Cotton Herb Cake): Glutinous rice skin dyed with wild vegetable juice, filled with sesame and peanut paste, steamed to a jade-like color and fragrant aroma.
