As mentioned in my last post, after admiring Tateyama Kurobe against the backdrop of autumn leaves and sleet, I was on a bus to Kanazawa. It was already past 6 PM when I arrived in #Kanazawa, and it was already dark. Suddenly, a friend reminded me that Kanazawa Castle was hosting a collaboration with Team Lab, called the "Team Lab Kanazawa Castle Light Festival." Without hesitation, I checked into my hotel and immediately rushed to Kanazawa Castle. The combination of an ancient Japanese castle and beautiful light sculptures is truly a perfect match. Kanazawa Castle itself boasts over 400 years of history, but the modern light sculptures, featuring the signature luminous egg-shaped sphere, the "Painted Warriors," and the ongoing portraits along the castle's stone walls, allow visitors to experience the transformations created by history, light, and nature. Taking photos and checking in at the spot is sure to impress your friends with a touch of hipster flair.
It was already past 8 PM when we finished exploring Kanazawa Castle, and most Japanese shops were closed. I couldn't get my original oden fix, but then I saw online a miso ramen place called #MenyaDahe that was quite famous. So, I waited in line for over an hour to try their red miso ramen. The miso itself was spicy, but not harsh; instead, it became more fragrant the more I ate. The ramen was perfectly prepared, not overpowering but still chewy. The char siu was lean and not greasy.
The next morning, I went to #KanazawaOmichoMarket to check out the local prices and enjoy breakfast. The saying "things are more expensive away from home" is truly true. A large sea bream sashimi in Macau would normally cost over a thousand yen, but here it's only 2,000 yen (about 110 Macau patacas). So, I couldn't help but enjoy the premium sashimi rice for breakfast to experience the quality of the local seafood. Every bite of the fish and rice was so satisfying that I couldn't stop eating. Pairing it with Hokkaido Yubari melon was a perfect complement. Afterward, we strolled along #Higashichaya-dori, learning about how traditional architecture is integrated with cultural and creative industries. Since Kanazawa itself is renowned for its gold, merchants not only seamlessly integrate it with cultural and creative products, creating elegant displays while also showcasing local culture. A particularly unique feature is the use of gold leaf ice cream, created by combining it with ice cream. Visitors can not only enjoy the treat but also stop to admire the staff applying the gold leaf. Long Ge believes that the very act of applying the gold leaf embodies the spirit of craftsmanship, perhaps embodying the principle of "respecting the essence of one thing without compromise."
Finally, Long Ge arrived at #Kenrokuen. Thankfully, the weather was perfect, with abundant sunshine. Kenrokuen is typically a popular destination for cherry blossom viewing, but Long Ge's autumn visit offered a unique experience. Although it wasn't yet fall foliage season, the harmonious harmony of the lake, foliage, and waterfalls, coupled with the favorable weather, made the scenery truly breathtaking.
Long Ge's next stop was Takayama. What he saw and experienced there will be revealed in the next episode.
