Experience the traditional Japanese 'Wa-Yo Setchu' style in Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter

Historical records indicate that the Kurashiki Bikan area became a shogunate-controlled territory during the Edo period in the 17th century. Thanks to the Kurashiki River's shipping routes, it developed into a hub for the distribution of rice, salt, cotton, and other goods. At the time, the area was filled with numerous warehouses and merchant residences. Today, it is renowned for its white-walled warehouses and willow trees along the Kurashiki River, and in the early 20th century, it became home to Japan's first Western art museum.

We strolled through the narrow alleys, exploring cafes and galleries converted from old warehouses, as well as various creative shops selling charming souvenirs. Visitors can also take a ride on a pole-propelled boat, but since we visited after a rainy day, the river water was muddy and unappealing, so we decided not to take the boat ride.
