Kiyomizu Temple (Temple of Pure Water)

Kiyomizu Temple, also known as the "Temple of Pure Water," is a must-visit landmark in Kyoto. This famous temple attracts a constant stream of visitors, both Japanese and international. It is an ancient temple, older than the city of Kyoto itself. The name "Pure Water" comes from the Otowa Waterfall located within the temple grounds.

The path leading to the temple is bustling with people. On the day we visited, it took quite some time to navigate through the crowd to reach the temple. 😁 Many visitors were dressed in vibrant kimono 👘, adding a colorful touch to the atmosphere and enhancing the charm of the location.

The temple grounds are quite spacious, offering numerous photo spots. Since we arrived in the evening, we didn’t go inside the temple but took photos from the front.

🚗 Getting there: We stayed near the temple and walked about 2 kilometers to reach it. Alternatively, you can take the JR train to Kyoto Station and then transfer to bus line 206.
