Phousi Hill (Phousi Hill) 🏞️, a small hill rising in the center of Luang Prabang (Address: Sisavangvong Road, Luang Prabang, Laos), is a landmark visible from anywhere in the city.
From the top of this approximately 100-meter-high hill, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Mekong River, the Khan River, and the orange-tinted rooftops of the ancient city✨.
There are two entrances to climb the hill. The main entrance is located opposite the Royal Palace Museum, while the other is on a back road by the Mekong River. It takes about 15–20 minutes to reach the summit from either entrance. With around 300 steps, it is recommended to visit during cooler times like morning or evening👟.
The entrance fee is **20,000 Kip (approximately 140 yen)**, which can be purchased at the ticket booth at the entrance🎟️. Since it is accessible on foot from the city center, there are no transportation costs. Many tourists walk from nearby accommodations, making it an easy spot to visit🚶♀️.
At the summit stands a small golden stupa, That Chomsi, whose radiant appearance shines beautifully against the blue sky or the sunset🌤️. Around 5 PM, many travelers gather to quietly watch the setting sun from the hilltop, creating a truly moving experience. Even just gazing at the view among the photographers can feel soul-cleansing📸.
On the way back, remember to bring a flashlight or use your smartphone light as it gets dark💡. Although the climb may be a bit challenging, the view of Luang Prabang's city lights and the shimmering Mekong River from the top is an unforgettable sight🌕.
