Nagoya's religious landmark, Osu Kannon Temple, a place of tranquility amidst the bustling business district

When you walk into the Osu shopping street in Nagoya, you can't miss the historical and cultural landmark of Osu Kannon Temple. The official name of this temple is "Kitanoyama Shinfukuji Hoshoin". It was built in 1333 AD. The original site was in Gifu Prefecture. Later, it was moved to its current location by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu and became the most important religious center in downtown Nagoya.

The stone steps in front of the temple, the bright red main hall and the hanging huge lanterns immediately caught the eye, with incense and melodious bells. The temple enshrines the Holy Guanyin Bodhisattva and is regarded as an important holy place to pray for the removal of disasters, peace and good fortune. In particular, the temple also has a large collection of ancient books. It is said that the collection of books is as many as 15,000 volumes, which is a treasure house of extremely high cultural value.
