Most people's first stop in Okinawa is Kokusai-dori. This bustling 1.6-kilometer-long street is the heart of Naha City and a hub for sightseeing, dining, shopping, and culture. From day to night, it's always bustling with people and a cheerful atmosphere.
The street is home to numerous unique shops and souvenir shops selling local delicacies like Okinawan brown sugar, awamori sake, and handmade glassware. You can't miss the delicious Okinawan cuisine—sea grape donburi, taco rice, and purple sweet potato ice cream—all of which are mouth-watering.
What I love most about Kokusai-dori is that despite its bustling atmosphere, it retains a rich Okinawan charm. At every turn, you might encounter street performers or entertainers in Ryukyu costumes, creating a cultural festival that unfolds at any moment. A visit to Okinawa requires a stroll through Kokusai-dori to truly immerse yourself in the rhythm of this city.
