Weekend Getaway to Shantou's Nan'ao Island - A Foodie Adventure

Shantou Food Trip! So Good!!

🗓Itinerary:
Arrive in Shantou Saturday morning, eat, eat, eat.
Depart for Nan'ao Island at 9am on Sunday, return to Shantou in the evening, and continue to eat, eat, eat.

Nan'ao Island Transportation:
We hired a private car, so I recommend doing the same, haha. The three of us booked a car through a platform for a little over CNY 600. It might be cheaper to contact drivers directly. Our driver was really nice, chatting with us along the way (not awkward small talk). He was very familiar with Nan'ao Island, showed us some great photo spots, planned a good route, and recommended restaurants frequented by locals.

Food:

Qingchun Restaurant (Seafood)
Our driver recommended this place, saying it's a seafood restaurant he frequents. We ordered mantis shrimp, green crab, grouper, scallops, oyster omelet, and seaweed fried rice. The total was a little over CNY 400, which was good value for the variety and quality.

Ranji Dessert Shop
The taro ice cream was delicious! Unless you're taking photos, there's no need to order the milk tea hot pot; it's very average.

Local Products:
I recommend buying local products near the General's Mansion, where there are many small shops. The main specialty is seaweed! The islanders are very welcoming and will offer you samples of their homemade seaweed snacks, some with fillings. We tried a few and bought our favorite, CNY 10 per pack, buy 10 get 1 free. Very crispy and delicious.
