Located northeast of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Prambanan is Southeast Asia's most magnificent Hindu temple complex. Built in the 9th century, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Primarily dedicated to the three main Hindu deities—Brahma (Creation), Vishnu (Protection), and Shiva (Destruction), the 47-meter-tall Shiva Temple is the most impressive. The temple complex boasts intricate carvings, with its walls covered in stories from the Ramayana, showcasing the art and beliefs of ancient Javanese royalty. At sunset, the temples' silhouettes against the tangerine sky create a solemn and romantic atmosphere. At night, visitors can enjoy a Ramayana dance performance set against the temples, a perfect blend of history and art, making it a must-see destination in Yogyakarta.
