The Biei tour departing early in the morning from Sapporo was a journey that allowed us to fully experience the charm of Hokkaido in winter. The bus set off near Odori Park, driving through snow-covered landscapes.
The first destination was the birch forest and Takushinkan. The snow-blanketed birch forest looked like a scene straight out of a fairy tale, while Takushinkan showcased the works of Japanese photographer Shinzo Maeda in its gallery.
Next, we visited the Christmas Tree, a solitary tree standing tall in the middle of a vast snowy field. Its serene beauty left us in awe. On Patchwork Road, we admired trees like Ken and Mary’s Tree, Oyako Tree, and Seven Stars Tree through the bus windows, experiencing the harmonious blend of nature and human touch.
Lunch was at Junpei, a famous restaurant in Biei known for its shrimp tempura rice bowl (Ebidon). The crispy shrimp tempura paired with sweet sauce was a delightful treat that rejuvenated us for the rest of the journey.
The final stop was Ninguru Terrace, a forest village with small cabins, charming shops, and warm lights that created a romantic atmosphere.
Though it was just a one-day tour, it was a precious opportunity to deeply experience the nature and culture of Biei.
