🍜 Slurping Like a Local at Ramen Yokocho Sapporo

We made our way to the iconic Ramen Yokocho in Sapporo—famous for being the birthplace of miso ramen—and ended up choosing Aji No Karyu, a tiny hole-in-the-wall ramen shop tucked along the alley. What a gem!

The shop was small, maybe only 6 to 8 seats, and run entirely by a one-man chef. Despite the size, the flavors were huge. The bowl of Sapporo-style miso ramen he served was incredibly comforting—rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and just the right amount of toppings. It felt like a ramen experience you’d only find in Japan.

What made it extra special was the atmosphere. Sitting at the counter, watching the chef work in such a compact space, and hearing the gentle hum of conversation in Japanese—it all added to the charm. We truly felt like locals, quietly slurping our ramen in the narrow alley as the cold night air lingered just outside.

If you’re in Sapporo, Ramen Yokocho is a must-visit, and Aji No Karyu offers that authentic, no-frills, soul-warming experience you won’t forget.
