The city walls are still standing (and you can walk on them!), and inside it’s this maze of cute shops, chill tea houses, and old-school buildings that haven’t changed in forever.
I just wandered with no plan, best way to do it. One second you’re sipping jasmine tea, next you’re stumbling into a centuries-old bank or temple. At night, it glows up with warm lights and feels super cozy, almost magical. There’s a touristy side, yeah, but it still holds onto that authentic, dusty charm. Loved how laid-back it was, no crazy crowds, just history everywhere you look. If you’re into ancient China feels without the chaos, Pingyao’s your spot. Wear comfy shoes, bring your curiosity, and let yourself time travel a bit.
