Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
When it comes to Taipei's most important landmarks, a must-see for anyone visiting, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is undoubtedly one of the most memorable. It's not just architecturally stunning, but also steeped in fascinating historical stories.
🚇 Convenient Access
I began my journey by MRT and got off at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station. Upon exiting the station, I was greeted by a vast open space, most strikingly marked by the enormous white "Liberty Square Arch" standing tall at the entrance.
🏛️ Magnificent Architecture
As I walked through the archway, the first thing I noticed was the grandeur of the open space, surrounded by traditional Chinese architecture on both sides: the National Concert Hall and the National Theater. These twin orange buildings, with their arched roofs, beautifully contrasted against the sky, made me want to grab my camera and take photos from almost every angle.
And of course, the highlight was the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The octagonal white building with its blue tiled roof stood majestically at the far end, with 89 steps leading up to it. It truly feels like stepping into history.
👮♂️ Changing of the Guards Performance
Upon reaching the top, I witnessed the hourly Changing of the Guards ceremony. The soldiers' precise and powerful movements created a solemn atmosphere. People stood around quietly, watching. It's another highlight not to be missed.
🖼️ Inside the Memorial
Inside, there's a large bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek and a historical exhibition telling the story of the founding of the Republic of China and the life of this leader. History buffs will definitely enjoy this.
