We decided to visit Tokyo Tower on our final days in the city, and I must say, it was every bit as breathtaking as I had hoped — and at a much more affordable price compared to the Tokyo Skytree.
There are two observation decks to choose from: the main deck (150m) or the top deck (250m). Naturally, the prices differ depending on how high you want to go, but even from the main deck, the 360-degree panoramic view of Tokyo was spectacular. We could see famous landmarks scattered across the skyline, and on a clear day, Mount Fuji even makes an appearance.
The tower itself, built in 1958, has a charm of its own — a mix of retro and modern that gives it a nostalgic feel. It’s truly an iconic symbol of Tokyo, and standing underneath it really gives you that “you’re in Japan” moment.
Tickets are sold at Level 1, and there’s a gift shop at Level 3 offering all sorts of cute Tokyo-themed souvenirs — from Tokyo Banana treats to tower-shaped merchandise. The entire experience was smooth and family-friendly.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly yet memorable way to take in the Tokyo skyline, Tokyo Tower is a must. It may not be the tallest anymore, but it definitely has the most character.
