🕷 "Maman" Floating in the Roppongi Sky — Touching the Depths of the Heart at the Louise Bourgeois Exhibition, Tokyo Mori Art Museum Visit
⸻
I visited the [Louise Bourgeois Exhibition] currently held at the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo.
At the entrance, you are greeted by the giant spider "Maman," about 10 meters tall. With steel legs, a delicate body, and hanging eggs, the figure embodies the artist’s love as a "protector" overlapped with her late mother, as well as complex feelings toward motherhood.
Inside the museum, works like "Couple," where bodies intertwine, and "Hysteria Arch," symbolizing an emotional outburst, quietly stir the viewer’s inner world. Each piece coexists with both strength and delicacy, as if shaping family, memory, sexuality, and deep emotional wounds.
🕒 Opening hours are [10:00 AM to 10:00 PM] (until 5:00 PM on Tuesdays)
📍 The [Mori Art Museum] is located on the 53rd floor of the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, directly connected to Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line’s "Roppongi Station," making access very convenient.
Even if you’re not familiar with contemporary art, Bourgeois’s works feel like “sculptures of emotion,” seeming to resonate with each viewer’s memories and feelings.
This is a museum I highly recommend to anyone wanting to experience art in Tokyo.
