Château de Chillon is a medieval castle located on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. The castle is near the town of Montreux, at the eastern end of the lake. It sits on a rocky island, making it a "water castle" that was historically used to control a strategic trade route.
Location: The castle is situated in the canton of Vaud, on the Swiss Riviera.
History: It was owned by the House of Savoy for centuries before being conquered by the Bernese in the 16th century. It later came under the ownership of the canton of Vaud.
