Vientiane

Another sacred site not to be missed when visiting Vientiane is Pha That Luang (Stupa Luang). 🛕✨ This iconic stupa is considered a symbol of Laos and even appears on the national emblem.

Constructed in the 16th century, Pha That Luang stands on the site believed to have once housed a stupa dating back to the reign of King Ashoka the Great. It is believed to contain the relics of the Lord Buddha. Its dazzling golden spire is strikingly beautiful when the sunlight shines on it, earning it the title of "the heart of Lao faith."

The stupa is surrounded by small chedis and a spacious area perfect for strolling, taking photos, and making merit for good fortune. During the annual Buddhist Lent and Pha That Luang worship festival in November, it is bustling with people from all over Laos and international tourists attending the grand ceremony, creating a sacred yet warm atmosphere. 🌸🙏

A visit to Vientiane should begin at Patuxai to admire the symbol of the struggle for independence, followed by Pha That Luang to experience the faith and beauty of Buddhism. These two landmarks truly reflect the history and spirit of the Lao people. 🇱🇦
