The view is wonderful from the rooftop, but that's it. Staff service is dreadful. 1 Drink and then leave.

By Stephen C |

Visited here twice during our visit to NYC 8th-12th May 2022. First visit was on the 9th in mid afternoon and we visited again on the 11th in the night time after visiting top of the rock to watch the sunset. This bar was a recommendation to us however after our experience i can only mildly recommend it. Make sure you bring your ID. Firstly the view, its fabulous, you can't deny it if your on the rooftop. Day or night its majestic. But that's the good stuff over. First visit we only just about managed to get a seat on the rooftop. It was really busy. Bar service was dreadful. The servers at the bar where painfully slow and the drink prices are extortionate. For what you pay i would expect better service. The servers at the bar also have an annoying habit of serving other people before you even though you have clearly been waiting at the bar before the others that get served. Our first visit we put this down to the staff just having a bad day. Second visit in the evening we didn't fare much better. Was easier for us to get a seat but again the service at the bar was utter tosh. The funny thing aswell is these people expect a tip ontop of a beer/drink costing over $9. Oh dear. Staff clearly need additional training which seems to be a running theme on the reviews. Also more staff are clearly needed to man the bar. I'd say its worth a visit but just stop for one drink (if you manage to get one) take your photos of the view/ absorb the view and then leave. Don't make it a session, and definitely don't stop for food either.

Our first time in New York

AMAZING! With stunning views with music and divine cocktails! The staff was very friendly. Recommended for spending the after-dinner.

Exceptional roof top

By Serge U |

Exceptional roof top It's worth the detour just for the unique view of the city. A must do when visiting NYC

A top night in the mountains!

By Marie antoinett... L |

A qgreable moment, on a tpit in NYC, top! I found this address on insta because they accept minors on weekdays. Very nice view of the empire state building. Good atmosphere. Quick service. Very decent prices, we expected worse. The dishes chosen were very good and hearty. Do not be impressed by the fact that they keep your CB for the time of the meal, after they return it to you to pay, they make sure that no one leaves without paying. I had fears, but everything went well. There was a line, but we had access in 20 minutes. I recommend.

Great views but very busy,

By CarlyLL |

Great views but very busy, we didn’t get a table so sat on a bench which was fine. Good atmosphere as the weather was so nice. Would I come again? Not so sure, we queued to get in the bar and queued for drinks only stayed for one round, then went to a smaller rooftop bar around the corner.

You need ID to enter??

By Nigsy2008 |

I don't normally do a review of a place i have never stepped into. It feels unfair however, after a subway ride and a good walk to the rooftop bar we were told on arrival we all needed ID to enter? It does not say anywhere on their website or their posts that you need ID. It actually says . . . "With no reservations required, you can simply come as you are and immerse yourself in the vibrant ambiance" Feels wrong to give it a 1 star . So I have given a 2 star and a warning to future visitors. Take your ID!!!

Fab view

By Jen |

Recommended for the view of the Empire State Building and it didn’t disappoint. However you need ID for this place and we didn’t realise luckily they accepted a photocopy on our phones. When we got to the top rooftop area they had several events and no space but directed to the bar below and got a fab space the service was great and friendly. Ordered food from appetiser and entrée and it all came at the same time. This is their usual and be aware to order one thing at a time if you want different courses. I must say that when we explained and they informed us of the practice they were extremely helpful and sorted us out. Definitely give it a try the food was delicious and well presented. If you get a good seat people will lean over you to get a photo of the ESB and don’t give a dam if you eating or not but this is not the proprietor but the clientele

Missed Opportunity - Unwelcoming - Avoid

By Rich Williams - Voice Actor |

I'm cringing writing this as I'm normally really positive. I'm sure this is a fun club. We went for brunch. The most unfriendly reception from security on the ground floor. Quite hostile actually. Bizarre. The excitement of arriving there soon disappeared. Remember your ID. Food was poor quality. No-one seemed to really know what was going on and we were moved tables to one that lacked atmosphere. Lighting all over the place. Expensive for what it is. Good if your want bottomless sparking wine, which was nice. Service eventually became good. I suspect that they are bridging funding gap post covid which is understandable. But they need to train and warm the place up. You can go better elsewhere and don't take too much notice of the website which is well marketed. Avoid and use your money more wisely. Sorry I genuinely wish I had good things to say as this was nearly $250 for four. Full amount was taken at time of booking. We are so excited I've we booked. Unusual. Perhaps the placr is skint. I'm sure it's a lovely night club and probably needs to keep it that way. Avoid, you'll regret booking as will your pocket. Not busy and now I know why.

Rooftop bar

Awesome location! Club and rooftop all in one. Good drinks. Good music. Good times. Igloos during winter time

Poor Service, terrible food

By Chris |

Ordered food and was given a number for the table, I informed them where I was sitting so they could find me easily. After around 45 minutes a member of staff approached us with a surprised look on his face, clearly surprised that he had found our food order number. He then brought us the food, it was cold and had clearly just been sitting in the kitchen for a while. I went to the bar and told them, they looked surprised, and asked me to bring them the food, they didn't suggest that a waiter came over. They said that they would get the chef to cook the food again. No apology, just made me feel like I was inconveniencing them. The waiter returned the food to the table about 5 minutes later, guess what, it was barely warm and they had just attempted to reheat it. I complained again and I asked why they had lied to me about replacing the food, I was then accused of having my food order number under my table so they couldn't find us when the food was ready. The staff were arguing with me and blaming me for there incompetence. I asked to see the Manager, which seemed to inflame the situation even further. Eventually I spoke to the Manager who was very apologetic and refunded us our food cost in drinks vouchers, which I was happy with. Really not a good experience when staff lie to you and accuse you pf causing the problem.

Top Rooftop bar in NYC!

By David R |

Cannot be beaten! Great location. Fantastic views. Lovely atmosphere. Great drinks and fabulous food. Especially during happy hour!

230

By E.L.E |

Nice rooftop with a wonderful view of the Empire State. Beer selection wasn’t the biggest but I got a Goose Island IPA for $7. Cocktails are $18 most of them

First Time

By Danna C |

First time at 230Fifth. Had always wanted to go but never had. Brought my sister when she was in town and expected the wait on a Saturday to be so long. We were inside in less than ten mins! Great energy and good dancing music.

New York with friends

By CSNam |

Nice rooftop, great view, good atmosphere. On the other hand, avoid eating there (you will be put in the disco), decent food but nothing more (too salty)

Absolute zero

By Francesco Q |

Terrible service, you pay first and then eat with your hands and without napkins... shameful they only think about swiping the card

A Meeting Of Equals

By Velox |

Whilst the really high viewpoints in NYC (Rockerfeller etc) give a birds eye view of the city, 230 Fifth gives you a more "face-to-face" view of in particular the famous Empire State Building, along with others. Match this with a really good selection of dinks and food, and timed for late afternoon or early evening and this venue has a real buzz about it. A couple of hours can easily disappear amid the noise of people just talking and laughing.

You pay for the view! Not worth it.

By Louise I |

You are paying for the views. Apart from that there is nothing good about this bad. Cocktails were watery, waiting staff were rude but I think this is because they are completely rushed off their feet. We had the dinner package, and were asked how we would like our steak cooking. None were cooked to how we asked. When we questioned with the waiter he just said we can’t cook steaks how people like them so basically it’s how it arrives. On top of this it was really a poor quality steak. They advertise robes but there is nowhere near enough to go around so be prepared to be cold if it’s not a warm evening. The toilets were some of the dirtiest I’ve ever been in! Awful.

Nice view

By Lars Beck |

Great view even late in the evening. Most spots was reserved though so you better book in advance. Probably much better in the summer as it was a bot cold now.

Terrace in a place with a lot of atmosphere. Queue to enter regular that people upstairs

By andres suarez |

Very good atmosphere. Informal. Friendly service. Controlled entrance below to regulate flow on the terrace. On the street lots of atmosphere from other restaurants

Really great, great view!

By Pioupiou |

Magnificent setting on the rooftop, in front of the Empire State Building! Friendly staff. Ideal for a drink (music background, photo corner) We booked online to eat (starter, main course, dessert) for $25/person, but in the bill at the end, ultimately the dishes were not included in the reservation (not indicated on the internet so a little misleading) . However, it’s worth the price and the detour! I recommend it to you++ Accessible by metro, station 2 minutes walk away.

Best rooftop bar in the world

By Janet WYNN |

My son treated me as a 60th birthday present. We went to the bar at night time, it was an amazing experience. We had cocktails outside with spectacular views of the empire state and surrounding areas. It's a must for everyone who visits new york.visited November 2019 Janet and Adam. England

What Ever Happened To Honor?

By sherribird1 |

Went there on Saturday after show. Had a groupon I got as a gift and they looked at me like I was from another planet. Manager told me they don't take them anymore. When I reminded him they are good for life and if you weren't going to honor them why get involved. Making it worse was the hamburger that I'm not even sure what it was. The specialty drinks were nice but sugary. Not crowded on a Saturday night?? The igloo fad might be done.

pleasant aperitif

By BuonCiboEsigo |

Nice terrace with nice view although there are better ones. We were there for an aperitif: no table service: you pay at the register and bring the glasses to the table. expensive, like everything in NYC

Scam

By Renaud T |

We paid 1031$ for chips chicken wings and 2 bottles of champagne. Even the view is not as expected. Not roof top! It is a shame.

This place sucks

By Matthew N |

The staff is trash, the food is trash, the drinks are trash. It’s a college bar on the roof of a building. Everything is overpriced. Do yourself a favor and come here to check it out, then immediately leave and go to a bar that doesn’t suck. Also, if you plan to go to any of their events and buy a ticket online just know your ticket doesn’t mean anything. On Halloween they didn’t put a limit on the tickets they sold because they’re cheap and the line was over 100 yards long with a two hour wait. They’re just cheap and trash. Don’t go here

Lovely atmosphere

By Krobach |

Beautiful atmosphere, atmosphere and not least views - from dawn to evening gives a very special atmosphere to the place. The catering we were happy and satisfied with.

View makes visit a must

By marydiaz |

It's maybe cold, but with the cubes and heating provided we enjoyed last night. Plenty of drinks which were 1st quality (they're strong too) and we got some snacks that were nicely presented. About the price, which is quite high, you still get the value. Attention is friendly and considering the view from here, we consider to come back by day tomorrow on our last day in NY.

Fantastic Views but Very Busy

By Steven D |

We visited here on our first day of our visit. The views are unbelievable. The Empire State Building looms over in the near distance. We went at dusk so we saw the sun going down and the city lights coming on. A fantastic experience. The drinks are priced at around $9 a pint & the food was great. The reason I haven’t given a 5 star is because of the gigantic queue to get a drink. It took us nearly 45 minutes to get a drink. Once we got our drinks & food, it was great. They also allow children in.

A must visit from dusk until they close.

By Antoni |

A spectacular place to have a drink on the terrace and to dance downstairs in the disco. Very good atmosphere, safe, appropriate music that invites you to dance. Spectacular views on the terrace. Usually very busy. Highly recommended and we hope to return!

Fantasic Vibe!!

By Adam C |

We absolutely loved this bar! Yes, it was busy but not too busy you couldn’t get a table or a drink. There was a definite vibe to this place that we loved. Oh, and obviously the views were stunning. I will be recommending this bar to family and friends if they ever happen to be in New York.

Great evening

By Karina M |

The staff was super friendly and the drinks were so amazing! The environment was calm and welcoming. We went early in the evening and it was a very great vibe.

When dinner is served, service is over.

By Kirsty D |

To be fair my expectations weren’t high. It was a Saturday night and Memorial weekend so no surprises the place was packed. The issue was more to do with the fact we’d paid for the dinner package and had very attentive service up to and until our steaks were served. Then we were deliberately and pointedly ignored. As were every other table as soon as their mains were served. The staff were rushed off their feet. I can’t entirely blame them. But we requested a drinks order be taken twice. Twice we were told they’d be back to take them in a minute. We sat for over 40 minutes with no drink watching our server rush past us avoiding eye contact. In the end we pushed to get the bill then moved to the inside bar for a while then quickly on to somewhere less up itself. So go along, enjoy the experience and the views, but be prepared to be ignored when you’ve got your food.

Avoid avoid avoid

By cazzaoconnell |

Lovely spot BUT it was lightly raining when we visited, we put up the table umbrella and one rude member of staff told us and all the other people with umbrellas up that we were not allowed them up as they are for sun and not rain! I have literally never heard anything so rediculous and when we questioned it there were no negotiations despite spending a fortune in there. Also tried to order some Nachos (to eat in the rain!) and was told we were not allowed as it was raining, despite other people being able to eat. Was told they must have ordered before it started raining! Rediculous and rude management. I gave one star as it wouldn’t let me complete without adding a star but it doesn’t even deserve that. Avoid at all costs!!

Very disappointing.

By Julie D |

Very very busy, no table service, queued for drinks at a grotty bar, very unpleasant smell, food looked disgusting. The view was okay, but nothing like it was advertised to be. Maybe a few tables have a great vista, but you’ll only get a table in the rain.

You just have to go!

By makingmemories585 |

We enjoyed popping up to this local bar when we stayed in New York for a few days last month. It was at 230 Fifth and what a great view. The igloos were really cute and easy to sit and have a drink. Everyone would walk by and take pictures. Great place to have an overview of the city and the skyline view is great. Drinks and food are okay and you have to stand at the bar to order, but it is worth it. Have a drink and enjoy the view and come for happy hour, save some money and enjoy the changing light. It is worth it just for the views of the Empire State Building. Especially to those of us not willing to spend $40 to see it! Insane in my opinion.

Drink on the roof

By solvitur ambulando |

Winning not a table, but at least one stool is a titanic undertaking, but if you can, you can relax with a beer or cocktail overlooking the Empire State Building. I can't rate either the food or the service because we limited ourselves to a couple of drinks, by the way going to get them ourselves at the bar, but the atmosphere of this roof top bar in the twilight of an August evening, deserves 5 stars.

Go somewhere else

By penguin994 |

Avoid at all costs, literally!! We pre paid over $200 for entry to sit and eat below par food in a loud, dark and crowded poor man’s sports bar. I doubt we even came close to spending the pre- payment we made to secure a table before leaving as soon as possible. After seeing how beautiful the photos are on the website and Tripadvisor it’s clear that this is from many years ago and the place has changed hugely since. This place was so beyond disappointing, a waste of money and would not recommend to people visiting the city, go somewhere else!

Fabulous Rooftop Bar

By goanjock |

Fantastic bar with great views including the Empire State Building. The atmosphere is excellent with a great mix of tourists and locals and we will definitely return when we go back to New York next year.

Nice brunch buffet

By XtinaR71 |

We were looking for a nice brunch after a class at the Peloton studio so we ended up here. It was your typical brunch buffet with an omelet station. The food was good, the service was ok, but it was exactly what we were looking for. A little pricey, but we were in NYC so...

“Like sheep”

By Santiago C |

They make you pay $25 per person in advance with a minimum consumption of $75 per person to sit in a painful place, on a small table and to eat a meal far removed in quality at the price they require you to pay with a very poor service. Anyway, a very cool place where they do what is fashionable today, treat you like a sheep and steal you as is fashionable today. “Someday I will learn” not to let them treat me like a sheep.

Great spot poor customer service

By Twizzle16 |

Great spot for happy hour drinks / overpriced otherwise. Bar staff could take some CS training but fair play dealing with the hoards daily, would return .

No recommendation possible

By Katharina D |

Yes, the location is great - nice spot beautifully shaped with a great view. But the place was absolutely crowded, we had no chance to get a place at all. Drinks are self service with a que of approx 30 minutes on monday evening, the bar on the lower floor was not open, the „sercurity guy“ at the entrance didn‘t even give a hint that it might be too crowded for a relaxing evening. All in all: disappointing

Awful - avoid!

By Helen F |

We booked the bottomless brunch. We were given a table next to a wall with no view. The “champagne” was cheap and horrible, the orange juice was watered down and the food was greasy and cold. Never again!

Not a shadow of what you expect from the photos. Don't be fooled.

By Michel D |

Bad food. Too expensive. And little. The toilets are also minimal. Lines in the hallway. Unsolicited 20% tip charged. Service could have worn more appropriate clothing. Especially the men.

Rooftop bar was awesome

By Shelby Essary |

Great place! Super fun and has a great view of the Empire State Building. Awesome place to check out with friends.

Beautiful Rooftop

By Mr. X |

Beautiful rooftop in the heart of NYC with spectacular views of the empire state building, Ideal to visit between May and September during the week, not on weekends. Ideal for dinner, aperitif or after dinner. The cocktails are not very good but surely you spend a beautiful evening with a unique view.

Unwelcoming, no space

By Diane C |

No outside seating available (a cleared from an empty but ‘reserved’ space quite rudely). Went for a drink inside and we’re cleared out of there too for a private function. Waste of time and money, very disappointing

We were looking for something more chill

By kbass0001 |

There was no cover charge when we went (Sunday night at 11 p.m.) and a small line. It was packed inside - meaning most of all the seats inside were taken. Outside was more chill - pun intended because it was January. They have igloos which were all taken and the heaters outside you could barely feel unless you stand right up on it but they did have robes. The drinks (from the bartender outside) were not good.

Completely Miss sold

By J C |

We arrived to be told it was $20 each entry to the bar but this included any drink. After I had paid we received a voucher that said maximum spend is $15 each, All of which I can understand. However, when I went to the bar I was told I couldn’t have the $14 cocktail I could only have a spirit and mixer! I had to stand there and argue with a card that said in black and white up to $15 to not get ripped off. Completely unacceptable! I then get a comment from the bar maid about tipping for good service, which I didn’t receive. All in all a bit of a rip off! $20 each to get in with any $15 dollar drink is more than appropriate but I shouldn’t have to argue to get what was sold.

Meal and drinks

By Eleanor G |

Well what can I say, was really looking forward to this experience but what a disappointment!!! Firstly on entry the downstairs door guy couldn’t have been any more rude if he tried, self opinionated upstart, not sure why he’s employed in that role as he doesn’t promote a good front for the business. Eventually got up to the rooftop to find our table wasn’t even ready and when we sat down it was dirty. When we eventually got food ordered it was less than appetising. Cold burnt fries and the chicken burger wasn’t much better. When the server asked us if everything was ok we told her about the substandard cold food, she was happy to change order but to be honest by this time we just wanted to finish our drinks and leave. Think they’d be better not selling food at this venue and just advertising it as a bar, ive enjoyed better food at McDonalds, we thought the guy that came out the lift we got in to go up was joking when he said ‘don’t do it it’s crap’ Even though you hv prepaid for this meal they still take your ID and bank card and hold it until you leave. Avoid at all cost, you will get a better meal from a street vendor. Xx

Amazing views and very instagramable

By Imogen |

I checked the reviews before coming here and was hesitant to book but I’m so glad I didn’t listen because I had a great evening! My partner and I booked the igloo and had a set course with drinks. Our experience was pleasant and the drink prices were great along with our waiter. The only problem with the igloo is that you can’t really see out of it so it’s not the best for a brilliant skyline. I would definitely come again though!

Ashamed

By Sergio G |

Unfortunately they didn’t serve all food we ordered, so that one of us did not eat at all. But what was really ashamed is that we went to bathroom and when we came back we found our table completely clean, while we were still eating and drinking. Ashamed.

Nice views but staff not great.

By Jane B |

Lovely rooftop bar with some good views, a shame the cocktails were in plastic cups , also we were accused of our card transaction not going through for drinks when it actually did, I even showed the transaction had left my bank account , then asked if we was Greg and the amount was $24 which that wasn’t our amount or name, made us feel uncomfortable with that. We wanted to use cash but was card payment t only, I have given 3 stars for the view but service and attitude is poor

Great view but crowded

By Tim M |

This place has an amazing view of the Empire State. There were a lot of areas closed off for private parties, making the rest very crowded. Couldn't get a seat. But good for a quick visit for some photos.

Terrible bartender... a shame!

By Stefmndz |

The view is splendid, however the waiter was horrible. We arrived at the bar and ordered 4 cocktails. The waiter tells us the price, we go to pay, he asks us for the tip... before we are even given our drinks. We tell him that the Tip will be in cash. Once our drinks arrived we gave him the Tip and as it wasn't what he wanted he told us: keep it and don't come back. While the tip was 15% of the note... a joke! And of course the cocktails were with very little alcohol so an exorbitant price for 4 sodas!

The most amazing view!

By ChloeKelly95 |

Visited here during happy hour on a Tuesday afternoon in November. The atmosphere was good and the view of the Empire State was the best one we had in our whole trip to New York. Definitely a must do.

Give the Christmas buffet a miss at all costs

By Jason M |

Had Christmas dinner here. I new it was a buffet so my expectations were already muted. But $75 a head is out ragouus. Thought for $75 you might get a welcome drink and some crackers on the table. But no, what we got was a dirty table cloth some sort of doilly in the centre of the table and Avery cheap sad sort of Santa hat. The desert was a pecan or apple pie served straight out of the Sarah lee foil trays. Would rather of had a hot dog or pizza..Go at your peril..

Scam you with ticket packages

By Rachel H |

booked tickets to find out when you get there everything thats included in the ticket price is not included. when questioned they always tell you "miss prints" this has happened more then once I feel this place gets you in and then scams you for more when you arrive staff are rude and have no morals at all. I wont return again!! They also wont allow feedback on their wall so dont believe all their feedback they pick and choice witch once they want

New Years Eve

By Alexandra W |

Had the best time New Year’s Eve here. We booked a table for 2 inside which I’d recommend instead of the rooftop as the party is inside. They had a Dj a guy playing the saxophone free bar all night bottles of champagne to the table & mini bites to eat all night. Me and my partner had a fabulous time would highly recommend. We still got to go on the roof and look at the view whenever we wanted. Great night, best New Year’s Eve yet!!

Disappointing

By arisstella |

Very expensive dinner while service, and food low quality. We booked the igloo expecting a nice view outside and we could see nothing. Food very low quality in general and apparently “chef” could not adjust dinner by just removing something even when we said that we had allergies. Everything came in plastic glasses/plates and dishes were coming before us finishing our starter. We had to pay tips while we didn’t want to. Staff was arrogant and they even turned off the heat in the end. Lastly, even toilets were super dirty. Quality was again in general below average, we could have easily gone to a mc Donald’s, pay less and be happier. We totally don’t recommend it.

Fabulous view of the Empire State

By LindsCC777 |

I have been here a few times now. The rooftop space is huge with a fantastic view of the Empire State Building. The cocktails are great and the food is fine. The staff were friendly. A great weekend brunch experience.

Great rooftop with an incredible view of the Empire State Building

By P4INTKILLR |

One of the best rooftop bar/clubs in NYC. It has a huge furnished terrace with a view of the Empire State Building. Under the terrace (inside) there is also a very popular bar/club. The place is practically deserted on Sunday evening but extremely popular on Saturday.

Big disappointment

By Jbuchan_11 |

The booking for Christmas Day dinner was supposed to be a treat. It was very poorly organised, all the options were in one long line so you were stuck in the line picking up food at the buffet and before you could get to the end it was all cold, no hot option in the dessert section either. For the money we paid it was a disgrace, would have had better food at a fast food resteraunt. Messaged when I got back but heard nothing. Would not recommend at all , it sounded like a great experience on christmas Day whilst on holiday but sadly not.

Poor service, awful food

By rjlw |

Rude door staff, questionable service & horrible manager. We had a questionable visit, food was awful. Cold, not all options were. AVOID - better options in NYC

Fantastic!

By emma |

This place was fantastic! Rooftop area was amazing with views of the Empire State Bdg, cocktails were lovely and the food was delicious!. Everything in NY costs a lot but the prices were reasonable compared to other places we’d been. A definite must if you’re staying in the area

Horrible

By GoPlaces700659 |

New York, Manhattan we had a party for 5 people. Waiter ask for the rest of the bill which we payed cash. After I checked my credit card was charged for the bill as well. A called the manager for help. They did not returned my money. I was charged twice for the bill. It is horrible, unprofessional. I had 12 of us at the party all witnesses, but they did not care. The waiter told the manager that he only got $50. We gave him almost $200. Top of that my card was charged over $400. Shame on them!

230 Fifth

By zahid nazeer |

Most spots was reserved though so you better book in advance. Probably much better in the summer as it...

Weekend in NYC

By Lana G. |

I absolutely loved the set up at this rooftop. The food was good and our drinks were never empty. Service was friendly and efficient. Definitely a rooftop bar to visit when you come to NYC!

Horrible….

By DayTrip20217800876 |

How to say? This place was truly a huge disappointment and a big scam for tourists. We sell you a dream place but ultimately far from reality. A decent service is the only thing that is ok, not like the prices… The waiters kept coming to bother me and constantly asking me if I had a reservation because “this is the reserved space here”. Overpriced cocktails and very, very poor quality, just like the dishes (plastic glass). The meal was mediocre both in presentation and quality. Let's talk about tips too, necessarily 20% even though it's barely worth $2 for the sake of it. Anyway, I don't plan to set foot there again on my future visits.

Cool bar with a cool view!

By Cucklebum |

Cool bar with a cool view! Popped in for a drink on Christmas Eve and had a lovely afternoon. Not too pricey and the igloos were pretty cool. Would definitely revisit, probably at night.

Fun!

By Mary |

Fun night out, igloos are so cool and the view is great! Will defiantly come again with my friends soon!

Partyyyy

By McKaleigh lonobile |

Beautiful view from the rooftop! I loved The drinks and the ambience here. Can’t believe it’s right next to the Empire State Building as well.

A must do for your NYC checklist. You will not be sorry.

By Marsha E |

I shouldnt have been surprised, but I was astounded at how beautiful a view this bar has of the city. The prices are very reasonable, we had cocktails and food all for under $100. The cocktails are pretty boozy too and who doesn't love that! The rooftop is heated so on decent night you can sit under the outdoor heaters, I was also able to take off my coat in February!! The igloos are lovely too. The staff were great too and great service at the bar. I Highly recommend this place. Add this to your list now!

On cold nights, red ropes are distributed!!

By Luiz J |

Even on a cold night of Thanksgiving the roof does not lose its charm. Great drinks, relaxed atmosphere and still we had a great thanksgiving dinner.

Sunday Brunch

By TonyKirsty12 |

My wife and I arrived with plenty of time to be first in the queue, the place opened at 10am and we were told to talk the lift to the 20th floor. Once there the servers showed us to a comfortable sofa with a table. We were informed to help ourselves to Brunch,,,,,, STOP PRESS..... OMG what an amazing spread, the food was not what I expected for brunch, it was tasty and hot, the variety was beyond my comprehension.... Well done the food was amazing. The server was tentative, and very friendly and executed her duties with a smile. The view, omg the view was what most would come to experience, but the food is not to be forgotten about.

Great views at night

By Traveller2023 |

We went here for the night views and drink. Whilst the views were great, the service was not as we expected. We hoped to be directed to a table and get table service, didn’t seem to be that kind of operation. There was a lot of neon lights and people just wandering around. Worth a visit but it’s not posh!!

Rude Obnoxious Doorman!!!

By L S |

We are visiting from the UK on a “girls trip” for my nieces 13th birthday. We have literally never encountered a more rude and obnoxious doorman. His attitude was disgusting and we very nearly walked away but why should we allow this man (who was clearly on a power trip) to ruin our holiday?! Arrived at the bar to an equally rude bartender. What is with this place?! This is my second time visiting and I don’t recall it being this bad the first time round… sort your staff out!!!

Excellent rouftop

By Kévin Crss |

We were looking for a nice rooftop, with nice views and nice atmosphere. This one was perfect! Really decent prices, a nice atmosphere, really top! I recommend.

Awesome Bar!!

By sky123 |

I had an awesome time at the bar!!!! The view was so amazing. I visited from out of town and have a bunch of photos to show my friends!!!!

We expected it to be good, but it was excellent!

By William H |

We really wanted a fun place to unwind and relax after a busy day of sightseeing and shopping, and this place was it. We arrived around 4:00pm. There was no cover charge. They put a “under 21” wrist band on our 14 year old daughter and made us feel welcome. The drinks up on the roof were excellent, and something for everyone with the hot chocolate drinks. The atmosphere, music and scenery were perfect. We hope to visit 230 Fifth when we return for a couple’s vacation to enjoy more of the nightlife.

A nice place, but a little twisted.

By Flybaron |

Great place, but a little creepy. It costs nothing and you do not have to reserve a table to go there. The bar is open to everyone and there is a separate area you can sit to drink / eat, for those who have not reserved a table. Those who reserve will receive a separate table in a separate department where they will be assigned a waitress. The drawback then is that you can not go to the bar to order. Everything has to happen through that waitress. Otherwise a little high prices. Great view, also in the evening/dark.

Amazing views and drinks a must in Manhattan

By Samantha B |

Wow!! Views are incredible. We took pics on rooftop bar but sat inside due to weather we sat right next to a huge window and watched the sunset on the Empire State Building. Bar itself trendy, great lighting good drinks selection. The mango jalapeño margarita was amazing! About $15 a cocktail. Would absolutely recommend for views, drinks and atmosphere

Big con!

By Jam N |

The place is first of all luxurious, you go up to a nicely arranged terrace. You have to go order at the bar, then you settle where you want / can.... We bought our drinks, we are sitting at a table and surprised!!!....even if the principle of rooftop is to go have a good time on a rooftop in New York, barely 20 minutes and while placing small "reserved" signs against your drink, please clear out because a private event will begin. We take your money BEFORE we warn you that the rooftop is privatized in 20 to 30 minutes...To flee absolutely, and that's a shame, because there would be enough to have a great time, but remember that you are ONLY here to pay....

Christmas bubbles:)

By Luc M |

Superb Christmas atmosphere on this heated terrace and beautiful bubbles to escape from the cold. Beautiful view of the Empire State Building

The first rooftop bar worldwide I left without having a drink...

By 2016_mk_sing |

Queuing endless and after paying $40 no table for dining or even having a drink. And this around 8pm! All tables reserved and no chance to get one. Very disappointing, the Bar didn't meet our expectations. So we left and celebrated my wife's birthday at another place.

Don’t bother.

By Simon P |

We visited 230 Fifth Rooftop for Christmas dinner on Christmas Day and paid $130 for the ‘privilege’. It was terrible. What can only be described at best as a school Xmas dinner. Terrible food and a very limited selection. The experience certainly ruined our Christmas night in NYC. THe service was terrible as well, waiting absolute ages just to get a drink. Needless to say we both left ASAP.

Please AVOID!

By Marli T |

Big disappointment from my trip to NY! 1. I had made a reservation like a month before I went there and I had prepaid $240 for 4 persons ($50 minimum spend/person + tax). Please don't do that, it's a trap. You can easily go there even without reservation and just get whatever even under $50. 2. Doorman and waiters were RUDE! 3. Food and drinks are TERRIBLE! I ordered nachos and could not even eat 2 of them. Total waste of money. 4. The place looks and feels so cheap, totally different from the photos they publish. Around the rooftop there is a fence with greens and you cannot even see any view unless you go to a specific part of the rooftop where you can see the Empire State Building. Would never go back!

Disappointment

By Mechyta |

The view is the only thing that stands out. And until there. Hyper overrated place, on IG and reviews you see something that is very far from reality. The terrace is fenced, so nothing can be seen. Uneven floor, all the tables piled up, there are like food carts where you go to get your food. PLASTIC cups. You go down and in the salon the positive thing is that there is AA, but although it is less populated it is all average. The Aperol made reluctantly, in acrylic glasses and a burnt hummus that they bring you without even napkins or cutlery. Disappointment.

Very disappointing experience

By Nicolas F |

Very disappointing experience with a very rude person that basically explained that after 6pm we had to leave because other people had reservations. When I told her that I would have appreciated that someone told that when we got there in the first place, she said that she didn’t care.

Avoid!

By Rachel C |

We have visited 230 fifth before so thought we would visit again. What a mistake. Upon arrival we were met with the rudest of doormen I have ever come across. He was argumentative, volatile and down right nasty. Upon getting upstairs we seated ourselves as there were no staff around but all of the tables were filth and old. The toilets were disgusting. I would like to say the drinks were good but again terrible. The views are brilliant but there is a rooftop bar close by on 38th street that beats this place hands down. Do not waste your money!!

SUMMERS BACK!

By james1983 |

Summers back! So what better place to be then high above the hustle and bustle of firth avenue, sipping away on a margarita at my favourite rooftop!

Avoid - rude staff

By katie h |

Very very rude staff! There are many other nice roof top bars in New York I think this business forgets there are other competitors with good customer service, this establishment doesn’t even provide customer service. Spend your money and take your business elsewhere

Rude Doorman!

By Mandy5 |

Rude door man!! Me and my husband walked around looking for this place for a while,When we arrived we were abruptly asked if we had our driving license & passport to go inside! At 42 & 44!! We decided to go elsewhere,We found a much nicer bar just down the road where we enjoyed lovely cocktails!!

DISCRIMINATION

By luz del carmen m |

In June 25th I went with my friends to enjoy the evening, everything was good, the food, the bartenders, the waiters, but at the end when we were about lo leave we wanted to take some pictures, I was trying to have a good one for one of my friends and we were close the the bar area, there was a security guard there drinking something and I asked nicely if he could move a little just to take the picture but he refused and the way he answered was mean, I didn’t pay too much attention because as I said we were about to leave and we just wanted some pictures, so I kept taking pictures of my friend and accidentally touched him so he started screaming at me saying that I had to get out because I step on him on purpose which it wasn’t true and he pushed me (I’m about 5.1” and he was maybe 5.9” or more) I tried to make him understand that it wasn’t like he was saying but he just got crazy and I was so confused why he got that bad attitude, all the people around saw him screaming. I asked him to bring the manager because clearly that was an injustice, then someone came but instead of asking me about it and try to be objective he just said that if the security guard asked me to leave I have to do it which it was so unfair, mean and disrespectful because he also stared screaming at me and my friends when we told him to give us a real reason and to let us to tell the story (we told him what happened even when he didn’t gave us the chance and he said I was making up that) everybody was looking how he was giving us this disrespectful treatment and some of the people around that saw what happened with the security guard where saying also that was unfair the way he was talking to us and that they were making us to leave the place, and the point it’s not that we had to leave because we were about to do it anyways but the way they made us feel it was totally DISCRIMINATION , we ended up going down with this guy that didn’t stop saying that we were breaking the law because we were staying after being asked to get out, but DISCRIMINATION is also a VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, this is the first time in my life that I received this kind of treatment, they made me feel so discriminated and my friends too, we were crying outside the place because it was really an injustice, and even people that was getting out from there tried to cheer us up because they also realized about this unfair situation. I know there are more people at the place that do a good job and try to give a good service, just this 2 people are the kind that make the restaurant look bad, the man who said it was the manager told us that his name was Michael Antonelli and the security guard was Fabian, I’m not sure if those are their real names, we were insisting him to identify so many times then I don’t know if he told us his real name, also at the end one of my friends told to this manager that what he did was discrimination he just walked away and said “yes”. I’m sure you have cameras so you can check them and see all that I’m saying

Perfect night

By Gianluca M |

Everything was perfect, atmosphere, service, food, drinks, wine. And value for money The only minor downside is that the access to the actual open rooftop was actually restricted for unknown reasons (private party, refurbishment)

An overrated place

By eduardo_soux |

It is a place with a very good view and well located, but they require you to leave the waiter a credit card, which stays in their possession until you leave, and also drinks are tiny, as well as bad and expensive. It is full of tourists from old people to children interchangeably. Obviously they're not interested in you coming back. It's a tourist trap. I'm definitely not coming back.

Vibes and views

By Charlee L |

Had to queue to get in but it went down quickly. Was worth the wait as the views from the rooftop were great. Had a good vibe on a Friday night

Great views, poor service

By JonandMaz |

Was really looking forward to this experience for our last night in NYC. I was a little surprised to find it was not as refined as it promised to be and was essentially a self service snack bar on a roof top. We got rude staff, who then expect a tip for simply opening and giving you a bottle of over priced Corona ($9) through a serving hatch. Quite what part of this Souless exchange deserves a tip I’m not sure. As such I never leave one on that basis, unless I think the Server has warranted it, with some kind of nicety. I was however prompted by the gentleman serving me that tips are not included in the bill and demanded I add one prior to payment!! In my world tips are not to be expected but earnt and certainly not requested. We didn’t stay long as a result.

Good views, mediocre drinks!

By Matt F |

Visited here after a recommendation in a guide book. Can definitely see it’s appeal, good views of Empire State and no cover/entrance charge. A little chaotic at the top with various conflicting information about which areas were reserved and were to sit. Some areas felt a little tacky however if it doesn’t detract away from the excellent views of the skyline and Empire State. Unfortunately you miss sunset as its behind the skyline but still good views. Would recommend for a drink at sunset but nothing more.

Superb terrace with incredible views of the Empire State Building

By Régis1972 |

Every time I come to New York I try to pass by this bar which I consider one of the most pleasant with an incredible view of the State Building empire and a festive and musical atmosphere worth visiting. Good cocktails, a cool setting in the center of New York, it’s worth a visit to this bar that is often crowded. An interior part is on the lower floor.

Racism

By Rav S |

** RACIST establishment - bouncer is director of the business, owner not doing anything but deleting my review Friend arrived and went inside, left the Chips he bought me with the bouncer since he wasn't allowed to bring it in - bouncers told him he could get it back after. After my group arrived 20 min after my friend was inside, they wouldn't let my other 21+ friend in since he visiting from India and didn't have the correct credentials - completely understandable. I was done with the situation, so nicely told them it's fine and asked if I could have my chips back and showed him a picture my friend sent me when he bought it as proof they were my chips. I said nothing rude to him as I'm a shy, reserved person to begin with. The bouncer (short white male, looked 30+) stated, "You want the chips back? I ate them. You want the chips back with my dirty hands being all over them?" asked me this like 3x while I was just saying yes as a response. I am bewildered at this response. Your bouncer was taunting me, a small female, for what reason? I said nothing rude to him - I have never experienced anything like this. Again, I am a reserved, shy person so I just said "yes", and that was all. Just yes. He gave them to me, they were indeed opened and eaten. Why is your bouncer eating food that was left with him firstly. Your bouncer called my group of friends an Indian beggar while he gave me my chips back. INDIAN BEGGAR? In what world is this appropriate to point out the fact that I am Indian let alone call me A BEGGAR? This is a stereotype because a lot of people from India are poor and live on the street. I have NEVER been called this. I am born in the US, getting my masters while holding a full time job - guess I'm an Indian beggar. His friend with him (black male, tall) tells me this is a common saying. Yes, I'm sure you called me an Indian beggar for asking for my chips back that you already ate because it's a saying - and definitely not because I'm Indian and because I told you my friend is visiting from India - surely not stemming from racism at all. Completely ridiculous, I'm writing emails and getting no response back from the owner over this. After this, my friends got angry at being called Indian beggars, and the short 30+ year old bouncer got mad that we told the line what he said and literally walked to us while we were WALKING AWAY, and grabbed my friend by his throat and was trying to fight him. Please - go watch your CCTV footage or something, because this incident is completely ridiculous from the racism, to the putting his hands on my friend while we're walking away. This is what you have promoting your establishment? I have gotten no response about your bouncer being openly racist to me and taunting me when I said NOTHING rude to him. Please tell me in what world it is acceptable to call me an Indian beggar, when there have been NO insults sent to you, nothing rude said to you, no comment about any race. I truly don't even care about your bouncer leaving his line and trying to fight my friend - I'm upset about the random RACISM. I am not the first to complain about how disgusting this bouncer treats people - read more reviews and you'll see for yourself.

Amazing place

By Loira Lima |

I had an amazing time there with my friends and would highly recommend this place to anyone who wanna have great drinks with a nice view.

A lot of fun!!

By SusanC |

We went for Sunday Brunch in one of the Igloos. Waiter was the best!!!! Drinks are delicious. Food buffet reminded me of a cruise ship buffet. It was very good but not great. The view from the top and the ambience is so much fun and definitely worth it.There is a place to order food on the rooftop with different options but you can't sit in the Igloos. In the warmer months, the igloos are replaced with regular tables. I will definitely be back hopefully at night to see all the lights.

Extraordinary

By Calypjo |

Extraordinary… We went there in the evening as part of a special rooftop visit so we didn't queue… very large terrace beautifully decorated “Halloween”… the view of the ESB is breathtaking… the atmosphere is great ! And the dishes we chose were perfect... What a wonderful time!

Great time

By Kristen |

Great atmosphere. Little wait to get in. Decent prices. Outdoor area has an amazing view and the igloos are really cool!

Very busy but fantastic

By Amy D |

Visited in winter and the whole rooftop bar was set up with igloos and blankets. It was very very busy though so we didn't stay long. I would recommend though!

The view is unbeatable but the "welcome agent"...

By StefanoRM75 |

The bar has an unbeatable view over the City, with a privileged one over the Empire State Building. The terrace makes its fashion, the waiters are kind, drinks are ok but not "wow" and you pay of course the location. I would have given 5 stars if the welcome agent at the groundfloor was not arrogant and unpolite especially towards a lady of the group, whose only fault was forgetting her ID (and having only a digital copy of it). unbelievable!

More or less...

By Gustavo M |

The view from the bar is really amazing, but the selection of wines is bad and the service is all done using plastic glasses! Drinking wine in a plastic cup is painful. It is necessary to make a reservation in advance and in the reception is a poorly prepared and arrogant person. I recommend only if you want to take some pictures.

230 Fifth Ruined Our Halloween Plans and Treated us like we were Trash in the Process

By Nelsa M |

Two weeks ago, my friends and I reserved an $800 12 person table for Saturday 8/29 to Celebrate Halloween here for the third year in a row. When we arrived for our reservation, we were told they had oversold the tables and didn't have any 12 person tables left inside. Their only solution offered at first was to seat us on the roof, which we refused because it was freezing to the point they were giving robes out up there (who wants to cover their costume with a robe??) and there was no DJ up there and we paid $800 to be where the DJ is. They came back and said all they had inside was tables for 4 people and that they could seat us there for now and move us when a bigger table became available. We asked if we would receive some sort of compensation for having a smaller table, like some money back or an extra bottle or something, and were told by the manager in a very rude and annoyed tone " You can either take the 4 person table, or I can give you a full refund and you can leave". It was 11pm on Halloween weekend, they know we can't get a table anywhere else at that point which is unfair considering we planned this 2 weeks ahead. Anyways, We gave the 4 person table a chance, hoping they would keep their promise to move us ASAP. Our table was in a busy walkway that obviously wasn't made to house 12 people. We couldn't dance without people passing by bumping into us and spilling our drinks on us. We paid $800 to avoid having strangers on top of us and had to deal with that all night. We were never moved to a bigger table despite staying until almost 3AM. We were faithful customers here for years, celebrating various Holloweens and Birthdays here and the way we were treated left a sour taste in our mouths and unfortunately we will not be returning. We are still fighting for some sort of compensation considering we paid for something we did not receive. My friend commented on their instagram and they deleted her comment without bothering to reach out. Not to mention, when we were trying to handle the table situation at the hostess stand, my friend and I were physically moved out of the way by two angry men who were in a similar situation as us and demanded they be helped first even though we were there first. The staff did nothing about the obviously already drunk men putting hands on us and shoving us out of the front of the hostess stand, and proceeded to help them while the men blocked our access to the hostess stand. We did not make more of a fuss about this situation for fear for being wrongfully kicked out after working so hard to plan this night. Beware when making plans here.

Horror

By Jeremy D |

Horrible... To flee totally!!! Catch tourist edge price . A real scam and disappointment of our stay!!!! Not going there

Nice view, but bad service.

By Janna Lopez |

I've been to this place several times, but the most disappointing time was in March. Upon arrival, you find a place to sit and then go to the bar to order your own drinks, and we did! The bartender was very insistent with the tip, we gave him $10. When we went for the second round, they insisted even more, and after a few more rounds, one of the bartenders told another employee, "They don't tip well, you take care of them." The employees are rude and only care about tips. The service is 3/10; the bathrooms aren't very clean; the only good thing is the view.

Nice evening

By Patrick L |

Yeah, good. We booked a party in the '80s. But you don't even have to show the reservation. Access to the rooftop where we ate at a very decent price in heated bubbles in November.

Amazing night in NYC

By miguelazp |

We decided to go in our first night in NYC. We made a queue by 20 minutes. We paid 20 bucks for the entrance but it’s included a free drink. The vibes inside was amazing. And the view of NYC night invites to you to have fun. Also, we ate some snacks but there was a bit expensive for the value. Honestly I didn’t expect all of the ambient in the roof top. Also, two hours after to go inside, we went to the party in the floor of the bar and the music was good. I didn’t expect too dance a Latin music in NYC. For sure, I recommend this place to have fun, enjoy the night by average price in NYC.

Love this place so much! Great place to hang with friends! Amazing drinks and fun igloos. The view is too die for!

Bar with a view of empire state bldg

By Nico Salado |

2025: Winter. A rooftop bar for the family!(not for with strollers tho) they have heaters on tables and closed areas or bubbles(but cant see full view). You can see the empire state building and chrysler bldg from here. No DJ. Self service for drinks and foods. They also have comforter/blankets offered for free. Lots of restrooms(but are tight spaced). There could be a line if you go peak hours. You must present ID when going in. See images for reference.

Go for the ‘gram and experience at happy hour then head off!

By WightReviewer |

Drink’s alright, prices ok during happy hour. Only go for the Instagram shots and a couple of cheap drinks then we’re away. Service isn’t great, food I wouldn’t bother with - why would you when Hell’s Kitchen is only up the road? Looks to get busy with tourists/office workers in the evenings. Don’t bother - there’s so much more offered in NY. Do NOT go for opening time when the weather’s alright - takes them a good 30 mins to get through the queue. After that, you’re good.

Great views

By Joe |

Visited here in Jan 25. Cold weather didn’t put us off as this place accommodates the winter. $30 entry fee, and drinks were a little pricey but worth it as the views of the empire state made up for it. Would love to visit again in the warmer months.

Very bad experience

By Oudghiri j |

Frankly very disappointing that experience!! It’s a scam specifically for foreigners!! We’ve made a reservation, they asked for 250 $ deposit We thought it was because of COVID 19 and managing people's When arrived as a couple for a romantic getaway !! We’ve we expected a classy spot for the asked price !!!! We discovered very basic place .. fast food kinds of menu No plus + just selling the Empire State view .. very basic menu .. no special wine list Or food for the price we’ve paid ... as a travelers to Europe and others places we expected for the price a nice chef menu .... something special... we had to go to arguments with the manager for a refound ... NY has plenty of a great place that are not advised in websites do some research you will be amazed by the good places you will find As for this one it’s a big NO ....

Money pump only

By michel75000 |

It’s not like before Covid it’s just a cash pump, evening on Friday to eat inside it was privatized so eat outside under the igloo but in 1h30 we had to be done!!! Cocktail with more ice cubes than other things waiters and waitresses who make the head constantly so much better not had to have ended tips like this... Anyway, if you go up there take pictures and go somewhere else...

I love rooftop drinks here...

By Rolphy220689 |

Took a client and we had a blast, such a good bar with great staff and fantastic views and atmosphere on the terrace. A well worthy place to stop for a few drinks and evening of frivolity!

Great rooftop bar with view of Empire State Building

By Deb023 |

We enjoyed our visit to this rooftop bar. Visited at 3pm in the afternoon so was able to go straight up to the bar, buy a drink and find a great spot to sit. By 4pm the queue was forming. Our Son went over Memorial weekend and queued 45 minutes at the bar to get a drink, so my advice - choose your time wisely- but it’s definitely worth visiting.

Igloo

By Flyer427566 |

A terrible experience. Delayed to gain access to igloo booked. Staff were incredibly rude from start to finish from server to management. Unable to cancel and gain a refund. Told we need to leave on time despite delayed access. Worst experience in terms of service, cost and food. When food was delivered no cutlery arrived, we asked for some and advised ‘we will see what we can do’ we had to eat with our fingers !!

Winter NYC experience

By Peggy P |

This outside rooftop bar with igloos and fabulous views of Manhattan is an experience! The igloos can be reserved, or you can join with others. The igloos are heated. There are also plenty of tables if you want to sit outside, and there are blankets available. You can order food and drinks, the menu is typical pub food.. You are not there for the food but for the experience. You can order hot chocolate if you don't beer, by the way! It was very crowded the night we went, but that added to the festive atmosphere.

Scary worst ever

By uzmelissa |

Not polite well coming started from the front desk employee. Views are ok, drinks average, it should be good but a slim bartender boy was running from the personel room to his work spot very fastly, he hit me very strong way, he was like unstoppable my body was shaken, my left side of body totally numb and pain but he never stopped the run and he was running away. I think he was HIGH. I stopped him and asked are you crazy, you have to apologize from me, but he didn't care and told me no apologize you hit me, I didn't. In that moment nobody came and solve the problem, it should me mafia oriented bar, I really shocked and it's never a safe place for hangout.

Stunning view!

By Francis D |

Strongly advise to book online early. We paid for the steak and fries option, with salad and dessert for $49. Very good value! Queue to get in was quite long but we skipped it as we had booked. Bit crammed in and had to wait for 10mins for our table. Could do with more staff at peak times. View was amazing.

Nice for a drink

By gaetan h |

Great place, nice people. As far as servers are concerned, you are a number, period. The security guy at the bottom of the building was great with our 16 year old son, teased but clearly understood that no alcohol.

Creepy staff members

By Isa B |

Had such high expectations for this place as I seen it on tik tok months ago when planning trip to New York. They had it done up lovely for Christmas and the bar staff and drinks were lovely, but everything went a bit south when a man approached us asking to take our picture. Being tourist we had no problem with having our picture taken and buying it as a souvenir. The man taking our picture said that if we buy one picture he will email us the rest, gave him our email (still waiting on our photos), and he then proceeds to make chit chat which again we were fine with. He proceeded to ask me for my instagram, not sure what to do in this situation as I believe he is an employee of this establishment but regardless I give him my instagram. He then proceeds to leave and go through my page to find my friends instagram. Both feeling uncomfortable at this stage we decide that we would leave when we finish the drinks we had just bought. Near the end of our drinks he approaches us again asking why we didn’t follow him back and asks us where we were staying and if we would go for drinks with him (we obviously said no but weird ??) and then insists on my friend giving him her number. Again, this man is working here!!! We give him a fake number and he straight away clocks it’s a fake, leading us to believe this definitely isn’t the first time this has happened. Totally weirded out at this stage, as soon as he leaves we’re approached by another 2 men asking was he bothering us and when we questioned them as to why they were asking it turns out they’re his friends and he had told them to come and talk to us. Making it very clear we weren’t interested they proceed to sit beside us and just stare, we felt so uncomfortable we had to fake leave for fear of being followed. We planned to speak to a member of security on our way out but there was not one security man to be found. Really uncomfortable experience and I question why somewhere would allow paying patrons to be harassed in such away. Our hotel wasn’t too far away and we would’ve returned for dinner and more drinks as again it is a nice spot but I recommend women to stay far away from here.

Pro's and con's

By jane hunter |

Pro's - nice vibe - good music - service ok - decent view Cons - watered down drinks - food hit n miss - feels chilly even inside - they serve drinks in plastic cups inside - they try to palm your deposit off as bottle service only but you can actually have any food or drink with it as per purchase rights

Customer service is appalling

By Meg R |

This place is massively overrated due to the customer service, staff talk down to you like you are dirt. Very snidy and rude, some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. not even basic level of respect when speaking to customers, give this place a miss if you don’t want to be spoken to like you’re trash

Dishonest restaurant

By Jac |

Our food was an hour late. When we asked where it was they apologised and said they would provide our meals with no charge which was nice of them. We had prepaid 200 dollars which is non-refundable so we was advised to spend it on drinks which we did. When I checked my bank the next day they had not removed the meal price. I sent a complaint to their accounts team which was dealt with promptly however I was told no refund as the food was ordered AFTER the complimentary food was offered (so we ate 2 meals each???) I was also told there was no way I could prove this happened which I find a very poor way to deal with your customers. So to summarise I purchased drinks with my prepayment credit which I never would have bought if I had to pay for the meals. A new approach to upselling? Probably not just a very poor approach to a customer complaint.

Stumbled upon

By Vasco80 |

Just happened to be in the area, and remembered about 230 Fifth, whislt feeling a bit thirsty. Popped in for a Cocktail, unfortunately the views were obscured by fog that day, but nonetheless we enjoyed our drink It was very quiet in late December during the daytime, no problem getting a table I would still recommend for a drink, and would like to return on a warmer, sunnier day!

Drinks with a view!

By Danii T |

We visited here around new year and it was absolutely mobbed but having said that I would come back again and again! The outdoor rooftop is my favourite place to see the Empire State Building lit up at night! Lots of heaters and under cover areas should it rain and outdoor comfy seating for warmer evenings. I can’t recommend it highly enough if you visit NYC!

Don’t go

By Beatriz R |

The attendants are very rude, and treat the costumer like they are crazy. The place is good and also the vibe, but the attendants had ruined my experience.

Amazing

By Neil G |

This restaurant featured on TV in the UK so we thought we would check it out. We were not disappointed. Views were amazing and staff so friendly - we were served by Tatiana and even the manager made time to speak with us. When it got chilly...they provided robes! Great night

Greatest Bar to Love NYC and all the people!

By Snezana |

One of the greatest places in NYC to hang out with friends. Breathtaking view, amazing location, great everything. Have fun people!

Fantastic

Place on the 29th floor with a fantastic view of NY, highly recommended. During sunset all the skyscrapers light up and the view is really super, everything lights up and is illuminated and you can see the Empire very well. Free entry, 2 minute thing, friendly service. The food is very simple but the portions are generous. If the weather is not the best there are canopies and if it is breezy or cool they offer blankets. We highly recommend to everyone.

Such a great bar! Great views and a great time! I would be so happy to come here again, love it here!

GOOD

By Fabredrum |

It's difficult to find a rooftop in town, this one is one of the few that accepts everyone. You can stay standing and the turnover on the tables is actually quite quick. Wide choice of cocktails. The snack dishes are quite plentiful and good. We finally made it our dinner. Prices are pretty decent for the city.

Amazing view on the Empire State Building! Super rooftop

Amazing view on the Empire State Building! Super rooftop, free entrance and no reservation needed! We went on a Wednesday afternoon and we spent several hours there enjoying the view and good cocktails (alcohol free cocktails, $9 for one) We definitely recommend it!

Disappointed

By Skaj2 |

Poor service. All the staff seemed as if they didn’t want to be there. On arrival the security man was abrupt, the waitress that we finally found to aid us with our booking was rude. The bartender was rude and lacked any customer service. (Bald gentleman) persistently kept saying “what” every time he didn’t understand what we said as he wasn’t paying attention to us in the slightest. Every time he spoke with us he was looking in another direction and didn’t know whether he was speaking to you or not. By the time we sat down we really didn’t want to stay any further. But had to as we had already prepaid for our booking. DONT do that. Food was not too bad, view was average. Barricades are too high with blocking to see anything. Overall very disappointed with our experience.

This bar is a the perfect atmosphere for anyone looking for great drinks, good music and a fantastic view of the city.

Discriminatory restaurant. Amazing view though.

Marvelous and wonderful place Every time i come to ny is the cherry on the cake. Good Organization, great experience and a magestic wiew. The best in NY. Not a 5 star because a waiter has a bad morning at brunch and called me "put.. " when I asked a question. I just asked a simple question respectfully and he told me "i dont know" before i finished and when i told him i wasnt finished he told me i dont know put.. . Im mexican, and love to travel, but "put.. " is a word that is highly discriminatory therein. It means homosexual. Which i am not and if so. Nothing wrong on that. I think, such personnel in ny in 2021 is just NOT POSSIBLE. Too bad 230 FIFTH

Terrible! It looks really cool in the photos, but that's about it.

By Irys G |

Worst possible experience. They serve drinks in plastic cups. We ordered a negroni and a Moscow mule, they were served in plastic cups without any drink structure. They looked like refreshments. We ordered a beer hoping to save money, it came hot! Bad service, the feeling was like wasting a night in NY. I don't recommend it and would never go back!

Don't meet expectations

By théo c |

The view is indeed amazing but the food, the music and the service didn’t follow the same way. One poor ice cream that you can’t choose as well as the dish ! Really overpriced even if the place is definetly breath taking …

Horrible.

Never again and I'm not wasting two minutes writing for it. Nothing's wrong. From the start to the consumption....the fries...no comment...

Dirty, disorganized booze bar - not a restaurant

By Jarle H |

Wow, were we disappointed... We had booked a table for a family of five (all adults) well in advance, and even paid a deposit of more than 200 USD to secure our table. We were firstly met by an arrogant bouncer on the ground floor, threatening not let us in because one of us (yes it was me, the dad) didn't hold an id - NOT what you expect when you've paid 200+ up front...! And then, when arriving the rooftop we were told that there was no table for us! After waiting in the bar for 20 mins or so, we were offered a table inside - which kind of contradicted the whole idea of going to a rooftop... Long story short - after another 20 mins of chaos we left, with promises that our 200 USD would be credited. OK, we probably misunderstood the concept of this place - this is a a simple booze bar that is serving simple food on the side (not that we got to taste it), and not a restaurant. It is a dirty, beer-smelling place, very busy, very loud and with lousy service. Probably good for college drinking parties, but not even close to what you expect from a restaurant. By the way, we had to write several mails to the management before the USD 200+ were finally credited two weeks later... Simply stay away from this place - there must be much better places in town. The only reason why I rated this place 2 stars and not 1, is that the view and location is actually quite OK - and again, it might work if your only plan is to get hammered.

Great views

As it was my birthday, I wanted to go and have a drink here and it did not disappoint. The drinks were great and the view of the Empire State Building were second to none

Overpriced, Overhyped, and Underwhelming

By john3725 |

We visited 230 Fifth expecting a high-quality rooftop experience, but unfortunately, it was anything but. From the moment we arrived, the staff were unwelcoming, which set the tone for the evening. While our table server was fine, the overall service and atmosphere were disappointing. The cocktails were of really poor quality, and all drinks were served in plastic cups, which made the experience feel cheap. The wine selection was extremely limited, adding to the frustration. Our table hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived, and the state of the toilets was downright disgusting. We had booked an igloo, hoping for a cosy and stylish experience, but they were completely pointless—you can’t see anything through the crumpled plastic, which defeats the purpose of a rooftop bar with a view. What we thought would be a premium experience turned out to be cheap and tacky. We were in NYC celebrating a 30th and had an incredible time elsewhere, but this bar was a massive letdown. There are so many amazing bars in the city - this just isn’t one of them.

Bad service!!!

By Luciano P |

The view is excellent, good atmosphere and cool spot, unfortunately the bartenders are extremely rude and unprofessional, my girlfriend went to get a couple drinks and bartender embarrassed her calling her out for her tipping (bulls**t) out loud. $3 on a $28 tab still ok for going to pick up the drinks yourself out of a window. The other bartender taking orders while texting no paying attention on a customer’s drinks. Still tipping 20% no big deal. Management should pay attention on this kinda service. Employee cannot tell a customer ( bulls**t) about of any type of gratuity even how low is the money you received on front of her coworkers to just embarrass somebody. Not ok with this service and the way the approach. Not recommend going to this place for a drink experience.👎👎👎

Can I have a tissue please?

TLDR; Spend your money somewhere else, the service is terrible, the food is subpar and the environment is too crowded to actually enjoy. This place is purely focused on handling as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Enjoy one of the many other, way friendlier places, NY has to offer. -------- We have never had such a terrible experience in any restaurant as we had here. We came to the rooftop to celebrate the 40th anniversary of my parents in-law. The man in charge of security downstairs couldn't have been more rude and impatient, being openly annoyed when you don't have your identification papers ready to present to him the minute you walk up. We had a prefixed dinner and the minute we sat down we already were presented with our salad - consisting of only salad, croutons and some cheese. By the time you order and receive your drinks you're already ready for your main course. 2 of our 4 steaks were overdone. We ordered medium and the steaks we received would make sufficient shoe beds. Initially the waiter said that 'this is how they cook their medium steaks' - which deserves a comedy show on its own. After receiving two new steaks, again one steak was subpar. The waiter asked us if everything was okay and we voiced our discontent. By that time our two other eaters were almost done and we didn't want to wait again as otherwise we would have one person eating by themselves. Our waiter said he did all he could and he was sorry, but he didn't offer us anything to compensate, e.g. discount on the bill, complementary drinks or anything (he never asked us anytime if we wanted any more drinks after the first time). By that time we've had enough and decided to not wait for the dessert and asked the bill. Our waiter also made a remark about the tip being too low - which in hindsight is hysterical but at that time rubbed completely the wrong way. Btw: our neigbours were celebrating an anniversary as well and ordered a $125 cake. The staff came and sang a 'happy birthday song'. It's clear the staff doesn't pay any attention to their guests. They also left after eating 2 bites as clearly the cake didn't live up to the (expensive) expectations.

GIVES NEW YORK A BAD NAME !

By Scottishperson |

Been a few years ago on holiday but just back and what a difference ! Lots of people, girl said you have to find a place to sit ??? Then she says you go to the bar and order your drinks and food ! I went up, not wearing my glasses paid for a raspberry mojito and a peach Bellini as well as chicken strips with a sauce and a chicken burger ! She asked me to confirm and i pressed continue, then told me to collect my food at another part ! I then asked her for a receipt and she said email or text. I got it by email and she had charged me 20% tip ! Never asked me or anything, for mediocre food (which we left most of) and watered down drinks, RIP-OFF ! I would never waste my time here again or recommend! Left after 45 minutes !! Better rooftop bars AVOID THIS ONE !

Worst bar service ever.

By brizzle |

It was a $20 cover charge and then we waited thirty minutes for a drink on the roof in the slowest line ever. Do not ever come her.

Could be so much better..

Tried to go to this rooftop bar but we were turned away for not having ID. The guard accepted a phone photo of a passport for another group so the following day we did the same only to have him moan about it being a photo. Finally got let in and headed to the roof but while we were deciding on drinks we were moved from our seats as that area was required for a private function although no signage had been put out. Drinks were fairly poor and expensive and it was more like a cafe than a rooftop bar. Has potential to be a great bar with views of the city but feels a little cheap even if it’s not.

Very nice Roof Top in the center of New York on the 20th floor! The view is beautiful. However, we cannot reserve and therefore no seat. The staff is not very friendly.

Terrible, they take people for pigeons, we make a reservation they say it's just to get in but there was a free drink

Great time

We had a blast going here. We went during the summer and it was packed! Enjoyed the violinist and the music was amazing.

One of the worst

By Japtor63 |

We made a reservation for this roof patio for our anniversary. And what a disappointment. The service was poor and the food was the worst cold and inedible. We got sat in the worst possible location near the bar with all the drunk people. Go if you want but don’t bother to make a reservations. Save you money. Oh yea if you have a thing against single use plastic you will loose your mind. It’s a plastic factory

Horrible management!!

By Rhea J |

Horrible management!! This rooftop has the worst managers i’ve ever encountered. My friends and I were assaulted a few times at this place and the managers didn’t care at all. They lied and said that they kicked out the people when they never did and once I talked to another manager, she offered a 10% discount instead of a full refund like we deserved. It was so disrespectful.

Best Rooftop in NY

By AAlex Bao |

An undeniable place like the best of NYC rooftops. Very good food, very good quality cocktails. Very nice music. Service fast and friendly. The Wonderful Mood, both for the pesonas that visit it and for the design of the place, very detailed about the decorated swing and with the background the skyscrapers since this whole place of the bar is located on a panoramic terrace with stunning views. And finally, it is worth noting: Admission is FREE.

Just for the view

By sara f |

Panoramic terrace with a beautiful view, perfect for taking photos. It is well equipped, with an indoor and outdoor area where music is also played. We were there in the evening (with reservation) and we had a beer enjoying the view. Despite the cold, we were provided with a heating bathrobe and there are several heat lamps. The service is simple and informal. I recommend it especially for the view and for the ability to take unforgettable photos.

Poor experience

Expensive, dirty and needs lots of improvement to match the great views of the city. Not worth visiting

Great Empire State Building view

By Florida |

Awesome view - only reason we came up. Make sure to go on the earlier side, because even when we left at 8:10 PM, the line was down the street. It is open seating, so that may be hard later in the night or with bigger parties. Drink was way too sweet.
