Fresh wonderful cozy Kosher dairy eatery in mid Manhattan

By Joseph M |

amazing place with very innovative kosher dairy food. Run like a real restaurant. Highly recommend all their food. Very creative chef, all ingredients fresh and made in house pasts etc.

Great service at this Kosher, Dairy Restaurant

By SMDavis2 |

Our large group was treated very well by a knowledgeable and accommodating server. We shared a number of apps to start - the crudo and beets were standouts. My main was the lasagna - a deconstructed version with homemade noodles that was crisped in the oven. We sat in their outdoor (sukkah?), heated space, which was a little uncomfortable.

Excellent pizza but crowded and over-priced

The title pretty much sums it up. Service was friendly, and food came quickly. I nice alternative to all the steak joints for the kosher consumer.

We want to go back again!

Abaita!! You want to make this “home” your next special night out. We had such a lovely, romantic, fun and entertaining evening sitting at the chef bar. The food was exceptional, everything was clean and with the open kitchen you can watch it all in front of your face. Everything we ate was out of this world and don’t forget you much try their unique out of this world apple cake! Best cake I’ve tasted in my lifetime. Service with a smile is the cream on top. Make sure to make reservations.

Small kosher dairy restaurant in Midtown East

By isawbones |

Small well appointed restaurant with limited menu. The Pizza selections looked great but we wanted something more special. The soup and beet salad was delicious. The fish was very good but very small portions and high prices were the problem. The wait staff were very attentive. Five stars except for the high prices and small portions.

A feast for the eyes and the palate

I had the best seat in the house sitting at the bar watching the chefs at work. They are truly artists. Every single dish that came out of the kitchen was uniquely prepared for the guest. Pasta the pizzas the salads the fish were all at the light for the eye

Magnificent

Wonderful Italian restaurant. Terrific food - delectable, presented magnificently. Classy, warm ambiance. Great service friendly, supportive, efficient - shout out to Meleina and Oscar! Reasonably priced. Looking forward to returning ! Thank you, everyone, for a lovely night out.

Very good quality and tasty kosher pizza and pasta dishes

By Jonathan M |

The service was average but we were pleasantly surprised at how good the pizza and pasta dishes tasted. Slightly expensive for what it is but overall had a fabulous lunch and look forward to going back again!

Gem in midtown.

By foodie2401 |

Came here in first night in New York and it was awesome! We didn’t have a reservation but still managed to get a place to eat. The staff were friendly and welcoming as well. My partner has the spaghetti and I had the pizza. With a pizza oven in the kitchen my food was excellent while my girlfriend highly recommends the spaghetti. Would definitely go and check this place out!

A great restaurant

By TomR233 |

Excellent service, very friendly staff. Had both indoor and outdoor dining. My wife had the bream, and I had the Mushroom pizza. Both were excellent!

Good food

By saw50st8 |

Food was very good! Arrincini, croquettes, gnocchi, grouper and chanterelle with pasta. Everything was fresh and tasty had great wine choices. Dessert choices were pathetic.

A (good) pizza place that thinks it's a restaurant

By Itay A |

A dinner with a group of colleagues in this crowded place. Overpriced starters (~$16 for a nicely decorated cucumber & tomato? a plate of pretty cut beetroot?). Super overpriced, not tasty, and badly cooked Grouper fish ($37 for what exactly??). Too small pasta dishes, after which diners remained hungry... The Pizzas however were good, really good, and quite large as well. Bottom line: go for the good Pizza, stay away from anything else!

Great place

Very simple is the best kosher pizza I’ve ever had. Owner is Italian the pizza guy is from Salerno, you can’t go wrong . My next visit I’ll try the pasta

Yummy

By Harry A |

We loved our dinner at Abaita! We got the rigatoni pasta and mushroom pizza, both were delicious! Waiters were very friendly and helpful, wonderful ambiance, and surprisingly reasonable prices. It is a small place, so reservations are hard to come by, but definitely worth it! We will be back!!

Excellent food and service

By ריצ'רד ג |

This is a vibrant, busy and (very!) noisy kosher restaurant with a young and mainly religious clientelle. I spotted a few couples on a date! We started the evening with delicious wines and unusual hors d'oeuvres of crispy fried olives and well seasoned flat baked pastry. I then had an excellent piping hot succulent fillet of halibut cooked in a mouth-watering sauce. I finished with a delightful apple cake. The service was outstandingly friendly anf efficient. Despite my usual disability woes (my mobility scooter had to stay outside) and the restaurant being a little over-crowded for my taste I thoroughly recommend Abaita.

Dairy kosher surprise in midtown Manhattan

By Joseph M |

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. Our children arranged a Sunday lunch at this midtown dairy Kosher restaurant and man were we in for a surprise. This establishment surpassed all my expectation and we had an amazing food experience. The restaurant is modest in size, yet heavily staffed, super clean, with friendly waiters. The kitchen in right there and everything is prepared fresh with amazing ingredients. The pizzas were authentic Italian, think Rome, thin crusted with a variety of Mediterranean ingredients artichoke, etc. The pasta were all al-dente with delicious sauces. Deconstructed lasagna. The deserts were light and delicious. I was privy to be inside before opening and the maitre'd had a staff "talk" planning the days events as seen on the food network. The proprietor was there overseeing everything taking great pride. He even had his family for Brunch. This eatery gets a full thumbs up, green (Forbes rating). Whether you are kosher or not, the food is wonderful, location amazing, vibe European.

Surprising New Find

By Edward K |

Found this while accidentally looking for a dairy restaurant during the 9 days that would take reservations (others wouldn't!) . A little skeptical since it is brand new (opened less than 2 months ago) and seemed a little pricey and the place is quite small. But it was truly great! We went at an off time (230 pm) so wasn't too crowded- I guess lunch was winding down. Also they asked us to leave at around 5 so they could set up for dinner - that was probably the only negative. The service was incredible and friendly. The waiter was pleasant and knowledgable. And the food.....outstanding! We had Artichoke and garlic as an appetizer . Main course was Bronzini (Mediteranean Sea bass)- butterflied and Crispy Salmon. I was told that the Bronzini was excellent. I had the Salmon- waiter said that the Chef suggested it to be medium-rare, which I did- and was one of the best I've ever tasted! (Although portion was somewhat smaller than I would have liked). Desert was home made "Apple Pie" which was not like any Apple pastry I've ever tasted Beautiful presentation, rapid service and delicious. All the food is fresh and looks home made- including the pasta and pizza. Overall wonderful experience.

Food is good but not filling

By jala613 |

Halibut was wonderful and very fresh. However, portion is small and not filling since it does not come with a starch or bread. Expensive considering we left hungry.

Discreet and Delicious

By Chunky5 |

As a first timer, it was a pleasant experience. I ordered bream, a fish I had never had before, with kale leaves. Also ordered was a sunchoke soup, made with artichokes. The fish was tender and flavorful. The soup was delicious. For dessert an apple cake was ordered. It tasted so-so, or somewhat bland. The server was excellent. She was warm and friendly, asking whether everything was ok and if I needed anything else. I opted to eat at a table outside. My only drawback, is that the restaurant is extremely small. Intimacy is impossible at such a venue. I must add, that it was refreshing to have a menu with fewer choices, but full of a variety of healthy items not found at too many kosher restaurants. I would definitely come again.

Best Kosher Dairy

By LuvTravel |

Dinner with another couple and everything was excellent. We split a few dishes including dessert. Best kosher dairy we’ve ever been to.

Best Kosher Pizza and Fish in Manhattan

By ramabass |

Abaita is a rare gem of a kosher Restaurant. The Pizza is the best Kosher Pizza I’ve ever had. The pasta is super fresh and home made on premises and the Salmon and Halibut are both excellent. The service is super fast and friendly. Also it’s rare for a kosher place to have a vibe and atmosphere. This place has a great cozy vibe and atmosphere. They call is Abaita because it really feels like home. I say it’s the best new Kosher place in New York in the last 10 years. Best Lunch place in town.

A great find

By GrandmaJackie1964 |

This looked and acted like a fine-dining restaurant with mid-range prices. The staff were all excellent and the food was simply delicious - it was so good that I could have ordered it all over again!

Best kosher dairy lunch

By djbrody |

Well, being a Kosher traveler it is always nice to be surprised. The food and service were great. Make sure to make a reservation we got lucky. I had the wood oven lasagna to was the best.

Underwhelming first impression

By Maccaphile |

I was anxious to visit Abaita after reading numerous glowing online reviews. I only wish that my experience had been as positive. The restaurant’s physical space is cool contemporary and bright although compact. Tables are on top of one another and the dining room was uncomfortably warm on the mild spring evening I visited. My party was seated immediately and the server appeared shortly thereafter to take our order. When we asked for five more minutes to deliberate, our server disappeared for another fifteen until we flagged him down. Service became a consistent problem as the evening wore on. The arancini appetizer we selected was served to us fifty minutes after we were seated and only after we complained about the delay. The dish itself was tasty albeit lukewarm - it seemed as though it had been ready and waiting for us but our server had simply forgotten to deliver it. In a similar vein, the pizza main that we ordered was delivered promptly thereafter, only it wasn’t the dish that we had ordered. We agreed to keep it in the interest of moving along our meal and at the waiter’s insistence. When the check was delivered, both the pizza we had ordered and never received as well as the pizza we had received but never ordered appeared on the bill. The problem was swiftly remedied, but the overall attention to detail left an unpleasant taste in my mouth (which is no commentary on the pizza which was perfectly appetizing). I arrived at Abaita anticipating a unique culinary experience accompanied by top notch customer service (which incidentally I had received when initially making and then adjusting my reservation). I left with no plans to return. However delicious others may deem the food to be, the service and surroundings overshadow all else.

Great Lunch Choice

By thebestplaceishome |

My wife and I were in NY to visit our nieces. Made lunch reservation for 5 in the makeshift outdoor space. Very comfortable and service was quick. Ordered a variety of pizza, pasta, salad, soup and fish. Everything was delicious and presented nicely. Good selection of interesting pizzas and different types of fish. A couple of comments: Fish said - whole fish sea brim - which usually entire fish with bones. Was disappointed that it was actually fillet. Nevertheless it was very tasty. Dessert - we ordered a variety including the apple pastry. It was ok but not special. All in all a very nice restaurant for a light tasty creative meal. Would recommend without hesitation.

Fresh tasty new fav kosher eatery NYC

By Traveler723810 |

Wow, creative and healthy kosher cuisine, modern Italian and eclectic fare. Bright and cozy interior, excellent service, nice wine selection. We caught the end of lunch service. The place was pretty full but we got 2 seats at the counter as walk-ins. Cod fish sticks appy were airy light and served with yummy lemon mayo and sprouts and poached leeks. Onion focaccia was lovely, full of sautéed onions with grated cheese on top. The soup of the day was root vegetable with many interesting still-crunchy ingredients such as thinly sliced bok choy, pea pods etc. that was enough for us after a late breakfast but definitely trying out the mains next time. Pretty small place so reservations are probably in order.

Disappointing service but good food

By yc77 |

After making reservations a day in advance online for 2 for a table, we get there and they show us to the bar seating. I explained that I clearly reserved a table (which I showed her the email confirmation). First her excuse was that there must have been larger parties that reserved after me so we got moved to the bar. We should have been notified. But we noticed some tables reserved for 2 empty and requested to be seated there. She simply said she can't. Told her we weren't happy and she refused to accommodate. The bar was extremely uncomfortable. Food was delicious but we felt like we were being rushed. They brought our mains while we were in the middle of our starters. Bottom line, good food is only worth it with good service. They need to shape up and treat their customers better.

Great pizza

By jaydeemom770 |

I’ll start out by saying how excited we were to try this restaurant. Reservations here are a must: we watched as walk ins were turned away. The Pizza is the star of the show. Charred, tender crust and delicious sauce. The pasta was appetizer sized and entree priced. Everything was delicious; but after dropping $150 for 2 people, we still needed to eat when we got home.

A enjoyable dining experience

By Walter R |

Abaita is a newly debuted kosher dairy resturant. It’s menu is innovative and excellently prepared and served. The ambience is bright and cheerful. Service was prompt with no pressure to make the menu selection. The kitchen and serving areas are visible from the dining area and were spotlessly clean. An enjoyable dining experience and well worth the price

Cozy, innovative Italian/Mediterranean done right.

By Andy W |

I stumbled upon Abaita during previews and was pleasantly shocked by the overall attention to detail and quality of the food presented. Although a small space, it’s not overly noisy and it’s pleasantly bright and the service is fantastic. A modern approach to Italian and Mediterranean cuisine is what they do very well including pasta made daily in house from scratch. In addition to the excellent fresh pastas, standouts for me include the wild snapper crudo with tart yogurt and lime juice as well as the butter lettuce salad with confit garlic and shaved radishes and carrots. For my main course, I had the privilege of trying the Faroe Island Salmon with celery root and horseradish confit. Out of this world! Do yourself a favor and don’t pass it by as you walk down 49th Street, make a reservation and GO!!

Family Eatnig - peculiar mix of dishes

By Duckers |

The menu has quite an eclectic but small selection of dishes with a wine list to match. Pizza, Fish and Pasta. Everything we had was good. It's definitely a one off...

Excellent Place

By Steven S |

I have been to Abaita many times, and taken many guests, who always enjoy the excellent food and friendly service as much as I do. From the front desk to the waiters to the Chef, of course, just a top notch place. A thumbs' up for anyone with any palate, or any sense. Best to David, and the crew of Abaita!

Best Kosher Dairy Restaurant in the US

By Charles L |

Great service and great food! This place feels more high-end than other kosher dairy restaurants in the area, and that's good! This place also opened with great timing considering the closing of Va Bene. The menu is limited, but it is a small kitchen so there's nothing they can do. Something else is that since the kitchen is open-air, you can watch your food being made even if you are not sitting at the Chef's counter. Everything we ate was fantastic. The Margherita pizza was incredible, as was the spaghetti. The onion focaccia and salmon were also delightful. Our glasses were never empty, and the servers paid attention to every detail. I can say this without a doubt, that this is the best kosher dairy restaurant I have ever been to in the US. (do note that the chef is very particular about not mixing and matching from different items on the menu).

Excellent handcrafted Italian Cafe - also Kosher

By aplutzer |

A relatively new kosher dairy restaurant that feels small but seats about 40 specializes in handcrafted dishes. Pasta and pizza dishes garnished with fresh parmesan grated from a block of cheese, sprinkled with quality olive oil and dusted with herbs. Menu is not complex: pizza, pasta, a few appetizers. I had codfish croquettes and my guest a margarita pizza followed by an apple cake with crème fraiche for desert

Amazing Food!!

By Raffi N |

Portions are single person portions (except the pizza) but filling. We ordered 2 pasta dishes that were absolutely delicious. For desert we ordered the Apple Cake, which was also delicious. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. Was an all around great experience. Will definitely go again!

Fantastic food and service!

By mariamonconnI |

I heard about this place from a few different friends and decided to try. Me and 3 girlfriends had a fantastic dinner there this week. The place was full and we had to wait a little bit for our reservation but they were able to give us a spot at the bar and we had a beautiful preview of what was to come, since it is an open kitchen. We could see the Chef in action and decided on a few dishes we wanted to try already there. We shared many appetizers and had one main course each. Coupled with great wines and the moscow mule - which is a must! We really had a feast for our palates. The Fried Olives are a combination of salty and soft, the Hamachi Crudo is perfection, very well balanced and super fresh. We ordered a mushroom pizza as well to start and i was surprised of how light and flavorful it was. Unfortunately the Halibut that i wanted so much was finished by the time we were placing our order but it is priceless to be in a place that only serves fresh fish, so no regrets, another reason to go back soon! Instead i had the Fazoleti Pasta with chantarele mushroom which i loved it. Service and prices were on point. We all left with a great smile and cant wait to go back! Thank you Abaita!
