Kebab 😋

By Lucija H |

This place exudes Turkish atmosphere. Considering that I eat this type of food at home, everything was familiar and delicious. We ate calamari, burek, agora salad and kebabs. Of course we also tried baklava.

Overlooked gem

By Devonelisa |

I stopped here with my daughter, at 7 she has great taste and rejected the noisy restaurants on the row to come into cool, calm, beautifully appointed Agora. There was only 1 other customer and I almost walked past it myself, even with their shutters fully open. I think this is mostly location, there is a super-loud burger joint and restaurants on either side with sidewalk presence so you literally have to dip in to notice them. But it's worth it as the food and service is impeccable, from the start to finish. Food is clearly lovingly made by an enthusiastic and talented chef and wait staff are excellent at advising on the dishes and attentive. I'm always a bit suspicious when a kitchen takes leftovers back to make doggie bags and here they brought the cases to me so I could pack them as I pleased, points with me but anyone easily embarrassed might prefer to send things to the kitchen for prep. Will definitely return and would advise others to seek it out, it's a great little restaurant that deserves to do well. Hopefully they can sort out some sort of sidewalk presence to lead people into their establishment, some Turkish tiles or plants, anything to make folks stand on the curb and consider it in the jostle of restaurant options on this block.

Delightful and reasonable Turkish on ues

By Allan S |

Excellent food. Especially the manti. ( grandmothers ravioli). A delightful full hand made dish by owners grandmother. Delightful cloud. There octopus and cavil garland c yogurt mixed with cucumber are winners. I especially like the kibbeh balls that are actually cylinders of lamb and spices with a pomegranate coating Comfortable and nice service make it a good bet. I would not go Saturday evenings as noise level is way too high for me

Great service

By Carl R |

We had the chef's Borek, paper thin crust with warm yummy goodness and two glasses of surprisingly fine Turkish wine. Sat outside eating the free bread, two types, and seasoned olive oil. Watched the 2nd avenue New York world walk by. Languid, delicious, and, as mentioned, great service. $30.43 total for a pleasant sidewalk cafe evening

We love it and revisit it whenever we visit NYC

By Roger K |

A small-mid size restaurant with very reasonable price and delicious dishes. We visited this place more than 3 times and really like their main dishes, especially lamb shish, and Hunkar Begendi. Their bread is also very tasty. All the waiters are very friendly.

Agora Is The Quintesential NYC Local Restaurant

By PSGumby |

Recently discovered Agora and have been there twice and ordered in several times. It is really good. This small restaurant packs a big punch. Food is fresh and excellent. Service is friendly and helpful. The gyro is excellent, the fish is delicious. Entrees come with salad and rice, making it unnecessary to order appetizers. However, they have wonderful stuffed grape leaves. Their baklava is wonderful. During warm weather sitting outside, watching people go by, is fun. It is also very inexpensive. Agora is a total NYC experience - small, friendly, excellent and local.

Good lunch

Warm lentil soup, cool hummus, warm bread — perfect on a cold NYC day. Pretty interior, clean restroom, attentive service. Turkish customers enjoying themselves.

A Very Pleasing Meal In A Pretty Restaurant

By Harvey M |

The pleasant and patient staff made dining here extra pleasant. They start you off with warm bread and olive oil with crushed olives (I have been submitted photos for each food item that I write here about). I started off with the Red Lentil Soup, $6.95, which was very flavorful and delicious. My next course was listed under the heading of hot appetizers but I made it my main course. I had the Falafel (there was a choice of 5 or 8 pieces), $11.95 for 8 pieces. It came with Tahini Sauce and Shepherd Salad. I enjoyed it, it was very flavorful with a variety of pleasing flavors.

Good at night too

By robcurtross |

My companion and I had a delightful meal last night. The service was fast and very friendly. Real family style. There is a small range of Turkish and American wines and three or four beers. We didn't like one of the Turkish wines and they were very happy to replace it for free with a Kefes beer. Lentil soup was very thin but absolutely delicious, especially with a bit of lemon juice. Calamari, which I didn't know was a Turkish dish, was outstanding, for the very nice cross and very fresh seafood. We had the medley of appetizers As a main course; everything was good although the spicy pepper was too hot for our tastes. The bread, unfortunately, was well below standard for New York City's Turkish restaurantS. I hope the management reviews of this comment. Cleanliness was good, including the men's room, and the decor is very interesting and has a home made feeling as well.

Good

Had dinner at this restaurant for the first time and glad We came in. Good experience good food and good Turkish wine đŸ·. Sure we'll come back.

Nice food at a good price

By LePatioDordogne |

We had dinner here because it was recommended by someone in our hotel. The food is tasty, plentiful and they serve a complimentary bread with a dip which is lovely. We had the Turkish red wine which was very nice, I had the baby Okra main course which was very tasty and it was a huge portion, my husband helped me finish it. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

Best Turkish in NYC

By Desiree Fish |

We love this place. Eaten there a few times and order in too. But the new, bigger location is in 2nd ave between 81&82nd st. It's BYOB and everyone brings a bottle or two! The food is traditional and I have seen grandma cooking in the kitchen so you know it's authentic. They have all the dips and hummus, a fabulous grilled octopus salad, a white been salad I love too. For main courses I can't remember the names but lamb with smoked eggplant, chicken shish with yogurt and bread, grilled fish. The list goes on. Haven't done dessert because I am always too full. But it's a great place, especially for those looking for something on the upper east side.

Neighborhood Gem!

By Linda F |

Went to Agora with a friend who lives in the area. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, reasonably priced, as was the wine. Definitely will return. Try the eggplant salad as an app and grilled branzino. Delicious! I know nothing about Turkish wine so the waitress brought me a sample of Angora (white) to try. We got a bottle and it went great with the branzino and my friend's salmon.

First rate Turkish food and atmosphere

By CharlieinVA |

We look for food quality, atmosphere, service and value when selecting a restaurant. VERY few NYC restaurants can achieve high ratings on all four of those. But good news: Agora does! Located on 2nd Ave on Upper East Side--away from the mid-town crush and tourists--Agora offers spendid Turkish dishes featuring lamb and chicken to die for. Go for the combination platter of 4 items with ample rice and exceptional bread that is served with your meal. Three of us shared the platter. We also ordered the Shepard Salad (excellent!) and the Borek (goat cheese and leeks rolled in phyllo and lightly fried). Wonderful, quiet setting with low lighting, candles on table and and staff eager to please. We had nice table by window with plenty of room...not squeezed in like so many NYC restaurants. Owners are from Istanbul so you know food is authentic. Being Greek I consider myself a good judge of Mediterrean food. So trust me that Agora checks both the food quality boxes....and all the others mentioned in my opening comments. Prices are very fair and don't forget to BYO wine during the week which we did. No corkage fee and so a definite money saver. FYI: Agora is a mere 15 min. subway ride/walk fromTimes Sq. Take Q train to 86th St. and walk 5 min or so down Second Ave.

Nothing Special

By Yorkiemom520 |

I had ordered the lunch special form Agora today. This restaurant has two special lunch selections to choose from. I ordered the lunch special with two items- there are many items to choose from. I ordered the Shepard salad and chicken Adana and paid extra for the zucchini pancakes. The zucchini pancakes did not have any flavor and were quite greasy. The chicken Adana was somewhat flavorful rice was soggy. Portions were not large. You can also the lunch selection which gives you appetizer, salad, main entree and dessert .

Fresh food, friendly service

By vinfan |

We joined neighborhood residents at Agora on the Upper East side, one of their favorite restaurants. While one diner ordered the chicken skewers (and loved them) the other three put together an array of wonderful vegetarian options like hummus, eggplant salad and a yummy creamed spinach dish. The bread was puffy and warm and we asked for seconds. Service was very friendly at this family-run place. And the Turkish rose we drank was excellent!

Delicious

By robcurtross |

We stopped by Agora Turkish Restaurant for lunch recently, and had a marvelous, flavorful meal. Service was very attentive and seemed to be family oriented. Cleanliness was acceptable.

Just ok

By Stephanie L |

Had the lamb meatballs on delivery - dry and uneventful. Same with chicken skewers. Will not order again.

Talking Turkish

By Steve S |

This restaurant has always been good. You bring your own booze and drink to satiate yourself. We normally order their falafel, octopus, beans and fish meals. They give you ample amounts of everything as everything is delicious. The service is good and you always finish your meal amply full and hydrated. For four without tip it's around $100. Now that's talking Turkish. Thanks Grandma, (the chef)

Delicious experience

By darkmargaret |

Even though I used to live in the neighborhood this was my first visit to Agora and it won't be the last. The food was very good, the service was even better.

Pretty Turkish upper east side

By Allan S |

Had some nice kibbie balls and the lamb doner kebab for lunch. It was good and had a bit of a kick as well Really thought it was quite good. And will return. Their raki is a bit harsh but the cook quite well.

I ordered marinaded lamb kebab. It tasted as bief, was not marinaded, and was dry. There were few small pieses. It was the worst kebab I had in my life. Waitress demonstrated obnoctious behavior.

This is a great friendly neighborhood restaurant. The wait staff is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is cozy and quaint. The food is authentically prepared and delicious. We had a yummy dinner.

A decent (and reasonable) place in an overcharging area

By mitan1 |

I had an hour to spare before I pick up my daughter from school and I found myself in this small restaurant that pleased me so much. In this area I'm usually apprehensive as the places around are so-so yet greedy in the same way: as if they share a syndicate that forbids competing via reasonable pricing. Also there is another Turkish restaurant on 3rd that is shamelessly expensive for an embarrassingly low quality. I'm Bulgarian so I know Turkish cuisine quite well: that place on 3rd is fake. Don't go there but go to Agora: the Adana and Babaganush were just incredibly authentic; the lamb was not processed in order to make it more palatable for the New York washed up taste and it was as fat as it should be in order to beat the barren burger taste of boiled blank meet. And it was coming with a traditional and generous garnish (the rice with nuts was a killer; so was the red cabbage); the bread was also perfect yet the best idea was the olive oil with delicate drop of olive paste in the middle: such a tasty appetizer before the actual appetizer – Babaganush – classical, fluffy, irresistible. And an amazing price for this great quality, a gentle service with a smile without the usual UES pushing to order more or to leave ASAP. The girl poured me three glasses of water and she was happy to do this in a manner you feel she means it. I'll be going there; don't miss it yourself.

Excellent

By molotok |

Visited Agora on a Sunday night and it was almost full. Nice interior but the food was the main attraction. Food is very good. Grape leaves are one of the best I tried, both hummus and baba ganoush also very good. Lamb shish is done just right. Very attentive and fast service

Consistently amazing food!

By Sandy2323 |

My husband and I eat at Agora regularly – at least once a month if not more. We just ordered take out last week. The food is always fresh, delicious and extremely tasty. I crave the Lamb Meatballs dish every time I go! And if you want to try a Calamari dish that's tender and mouth-watering, go for this delicious appetizer. Also consistent, the service and wait staff are always friendly and accommodating. Whenever we have out-of-town visitors, we take them to Agora for a truly splendid dining experience.

Istanbul in the UES

By luv2trvl09NY |

We’ve been to Agora twice and the food is great, the service attentive and the price extremely reasonable. It has the ambiance of a neighborhood restaurant and outdoor seating is a plus. I highly recommend the octopus salad, the chicken adana and the mixed grill platter. It’s also worth noting that their BYOB policy applies from Monday thru Thursday.

Fantastic Food, Superb Service!

By Syed Sabir Shah |

We were in search of Halal bbq food and accidentally came upon this Turkish restaurant, Agora. A very warm welcome awarded to us by a smiling waitress who immediately led to our table. It was a little early for dinner so only two other tables were occupied. The interior of Agora is overly decorated with trinkets, trophies, memorabilia from Turkey. The joint gives a look more suited to a tiny museum than a restaurant. We ordered food and requested the hostess to be quick as we were famishing from roaming NYC. Bread, salad bowl, and Hummus were provided right away while the rest of the order took about 15-20 minutes to arrive. It was worth waiting for. The food platter was full of sizzling hot Kababs. The Kababs were aromatic, well presented, tasty, barbecued to the perfection, and the portion was very generous as well. The platter was enough for four hungry stomachs. Yes, Hummus and bread did help to lower the appetite but still that platter was mighty generous. In addition to food, the service was top notch and took care of us pretty nicely. Staff was not visible to us, but they kept on appearing & refilling our water/Pepsi glasses at the right moment. Very subtle indeed. The owner himself visited our table and asked if we were okay with service and food. Thumbs up for both!! 👍👍

was ok

By Cline1410 |

The restaurant is very nice. But the service was disappointing, I am not use to make my doggy-bag, and nerver a world event if thank you... The entree was pricy but the worst is that I am sure that I didn't had lamb but beef.. So I will never go to this place anymore...

Very tasty Turkish food

By FloNYC |

Homemade everything. Highly recommend it. The lamb Adana is unbelievably tasty. The toasted bread you get once you sit down is also in a category of its own. A must try neighborhood gem.

Just great and tasty

By Mukund P |

We stopped in here since we had a taste for Turkish food. This place is just awesome. Of course, what makes it so very awesome is the taste of the food of course but also the service with a smile by Ozaan and Mesut. They love what they do and it showed. Ozaan helped us choose from the menu. Next time we are in NYC, we plan to go again.

Excellent Food

By Sal_Paradise767 |

This was a lovely place to have dinner at. Friendly and helpful service, good mix of outdoor and indoor seating and of course, excellent food. Make sure you get the purple cabbage side with your meal, it's to die for.

Delicious food and good value

By Robert C |

Stopped in for lunch and was greeted by very friendly staff. Fresh bread came out while we evaluated the menu. Ended up ordering the falafel and mixed grill. The falafel was perfect. A couple of the meats in the mixed grill were a Ted dry, but nothing a little yogurt couldn’t fix! Overall great experience.

Casual Dinner

The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere. The lamb meatballs and chicken shish kabob were very tasty. The service was friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable.

Great Flavors and BYO

By ijan |

This tiny restaurant (currently on 80th at 2nd Ave) is planning to move to a bigger location in a few weeks, so once they've settled I would definitely like to visit again. They don't have a liquor license so they are BYO and there isn't a corkage fee, which is nice. They even kept our extra beers in the fridge until we wanted them. Of course, the real reason to be there is the food. As soon as we sat down, the waitress brought chunks of warm bread and a tasty dipping sauce, so we were off to a good start. My friends and I shared the Shepherd Salad, which was crisp and very fresh-tasting (garden-fresh local flavor, though I don't know if the veggie source is local.) Then we made a great decision when we shared the mixed appetizer plate, with six of the cold appetizers. Every one of them was great, and I would have liked to take some of them home (but I was traveling so maybe next time.) I especially liked the two eggplant choices: one smoky and sweet, the other nutty and light. The hummus was creamy and also had great flavor. I want to go back because I love lamb and there were several choices that sounded great but we were too full to order more. One note to consider: because they are so small, they really didn't want us lingering at the table if we weren't ordering more. They don't take reservations and there were people waiting outside. So we finished and went somewhere else to continue our evening and our conversation. Hopefully the new location will be able to be more flexible, though they were polite and apologetic about encouraging us to go.

Nice first restaurant for first night out

By amethystloucks |

I recently moved to Newark, but work in NYC. My parents came in for a weekend and this was the first restaurant we went to. It was great. I'm kind of a picky eater, but I found something I liked.

Prompt service, filling food, reasonable prices

By TeoChiaburu |

Entered at 7 pm for a quick bite. Within seconds, order taken and served with bread and dip. Appetizers served immediately. The humus was rapidly vanishing and more bread promptly appeared. The large shepherd salad and interesting chef's borek were also rapidly swallowed and we exited in the cold rain half an hour later. One federal note with President Grant on the back took care of the bill, which is quite cheap for NYC (one glass of wine was consumed as well). The bill took longer than expected to settle, thus one star less in this review. Would pay in cash next time, would definitely re-turn ...

Nice restaurant, friendly service

By Jon |

We had a fine meal but nothing extraordinary. I'll probably go back at some point but it's not going to be a neighborhood favorite.

Wonderful food, fantastic service!

By wijssa |

A friend and I stopped by this charming restaurant for lunch. There were several tables of people eating delicious looking meals. We each ordered from the lunch specials - I had spicy mixed veggies for an appetizer and lamb adana for the main meal. My friend had the hummus and then lamb meatballs. Everything tasted very fresh and we received plenty of food! Our server was attentive and really nice. We definitely will return!

Excellent Turkish Food Festival

By Richard J |

Initial impression of too crowded, too noisy, and too close to adjoining tables quickly changed to intimate and spirited once we settled in and had a glass of the excellent Malbec that I had to purchase from the local liquor store. The shared small Shepherd Salad along with the Spinach Tarator (sautéed spinach mixed with thick homemade garlic yogurt and walnuts) were both excellent, We had to slow down the pace of food delivery to our table since things felt rushed and a leisurely Saturday night dinner seemed to be disappearing. That helped a lot. The two entrees were Lamb Shish which was excellent ($18) and Hunkar Begendi (chicken chunks over smoked eggplant purée - $17) which my dinner companion said was excellent, as well. This restaurant 's current location is much larger than their previous site, however one or two fewer tables and some built in sound absorption would have enhanced the overall experience. An excellent dining experience overall and for a very, very reasonable tab. Try it...you will enjoy.

Delicious Turkish Food!

By Carol A V |

I was looking for a Turkish restaurant somewhere between the Guggenheim and 2nd Ave, and I found Agora on Google maps, so I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. It was extremely noisy when I entered, but it was a Saturday night a little after 8pm and the place was packed, so that's to be expected. Despite not having a reservation, as I couldn't be sure what time I would arrive, I was given a nice table along the side on the banquette, with a great view of all the artwork on the opposite wall, and of the beautiful purple walls, which is my favorite color. Quite unusual color for a Turkish restaurant, but lovely just the same. Service was very prompt and extremely polite. My server was very helpful and gave me excellent service. The Turkish bread, always a favorite, was warm and delicious and served with olive oil with an olive tapenade mixed in, which only made it even better. I had the lamb meatballs, or kofte kebabs as I know them, which were juicy, tender and yummy. They were served with the usual fluffy rice and red cabbage and greens. Since it was a lot of food that I couldn't finish, I did not order dessert, only tea, but the baklava on the table next to me looked really good. In my opinion Turkish baklava is the best, so maybe next time, as I will be going back. Oh, and the prices were very reasonable, so another reason to return to Agora.

1st Time Turkish Food

By R W |

You can have burgers, quesadillas anywhere; but authentic Turkish food- not cart based kebabs, requires a visit to Agora. I hated eggplant before, now i love babaganoush- forgive the spelling. Lamb Saute is worth the trip

Never disappoints!

By Jiev16 |

This is my favorite place when I need good hearty food! Everything in the menu is amazing. The chicken sauté with lemon sauce is my favorite and the kibbeh balls are yum! They also serve wine and beer now! There are wines from Turkey available too. You will enjoy the food for sure. Be sure to finish with a Turkish coffee and some baklava!

Very good lunch

By robcurtross |

Green lentil soup and falafel -- both good of the type and similar to the dishes I had in Istanbul on a couple of occasions. Bread was freshly baked, good taste and light and fluffy. Olive oil on the side was light with a good grassy taste and a number of different spices. Prompt and friendly service. Very interesting artwork with a number of remarkably good paintings. Good cleanliness including in the men's room. Outdoor seating and quite comfortable at lunch either inside or outside depending on your preference. We are blessed with two Turkish restaurants nearby: Beyoglu is bigger and the food is similar and probably of comparable quality at both restaurants. Some reviews indicate that this is a BYOB restaurant, but when I asked today, I was told that it was not permitted under their license.

Best Turkish/ Middle Eastern Food in the area

By Trotpeg |

We got takeout from here last night: Hummus, grape leaves and Chicken Shish Kebab with Pide bread. The food was outstanding, especially the side and the grape leaves. Prices in line with other Upper Eastside restaurants.

Great family owned

By mireyma1 |

Awesome food, moderate price and very nice ambient! Located on 3rd Ave and great service. Small hole in the wall treasure with a small outside dining section.

Tasty Turkish fare in a cozy space!

By Bi-coaster |

Cozy place for a traditional Turkish lunch. Our waiter was real and pleasant and we ordered hummus to start. The entrees of chicken shish (a bit dry) and lamb Adana (excellent) were accompanied by rice, onion salad, red cabbage, and some green pepper and tomato. The red cabbage was particularly nice. We plan to return!

A slice of Istanbul in NYC...

By MendoPOM |

Friendly, knowledgable service from a man who moved here 6 months ago! Had the spinach Tarator.....on fresh hot pita. I then had the delicious chicken shish..perfectly grilled with the most interesting red cabbage salad and gently seasoned rice. Authentic Turkish. Please notice the beautiful Turkish art and photos on the walls. Evil eye everywhere!

Delicious food

Wow the food was to die for. Delicious and fresh and perfect portions Staff were very accommodating and great service skills Our 3 fussy kids devoured their meals and me and my husband loved everything we ordered Reasonable by NYC standards Highly recommend

Great find on the UES

By shasta2088 |

We really enjoyed this restaurant. Food was delicious! App sampler (babaganoush/hummus/eggplant/spinach) was really good. A few of us had the chicken saute with lemon sauce and rice, others had falafel and lamb meatballs. Portions were nice siEd and prices were very reasonable for Manhattan. Service was attentive. Mice Turkish wine list too.

VERY DISAPPOINTING-- especially for take-out or delivery

By Barrett |

Ordered take-out dinner. Food was terribly overcooked especially the lamb. Take out food never travels well in those sealed containers but when the food is already overcooked it's not worthwhile.

go-to takeout spot but so fresh!

By Sarah |

I really can't explain how much I love the food at this restaurant and I've never even set foot in the place. My boyfriend and I order take out from here A LOT, sometimes more than once a week. The food is fresh, so tasty. Just realllyyyy trulyyy delicious. The chicken saute im the lemon sauce is a favorite of mine...and all of the kebabs are delicious. The spicy veggies (pretty much a tapenade) goes fantastically with their delicious bread. Highly recommend!

Very Delicious

By Hamza A |

I had a great time here, the taste is so delicious and it's value for money. Highly recommended 👍the meal I ordered was for $15 after tax which is a good price for a food and ambiance like this. The service was good too and the waiters are quite courteous.

A Shish Kebab That Challenged My Jaw Muscles

By Bill M |

Agora Turkish Restaurant, 1565 Second Ave. (between 81st & 82nd), NY NY 10028. 212 717 1228. Lunch for two, 1:30 PM Tuesday, July25. The restaurant, very nicely decorated with artworks and historical prints, was empty save for us—just the way we like it. The room is just a tad crowded and the two-tops are positively dainty. If you want elbow room, skip the busiest hours. The meal itself bordered on disastrous. The dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) were absolutely fresh but had little taste (possibly they were vegan?). My guest’s dish of okra seemed fine but my “Lamb Shish” (as it is listed on the menu) was an extremely poor performance by the (rather slow) kitchen: rice clearly parboiled and tasteless, onions and peppers skimpy, and the lamb itself done to gray, dry toughness If the restaurant and the menu hadn’t been suggested by my guest, I’ve have sent the lot back. Total cost, with two Turkish Efes pilsners (OK; nothing special) and 18% tip: $124.98. Maybe that’s why the place was empty. Frankly, I felt skunked.

Great place to eat

By Abid100 |

If you visit New York City, Agora is a great place to eat Turkish food. Its worth it. Healthy, delicious and reasonably priced. Very small place so one has to wait for the table. The owner told us that they are moving to bigger location in the same block. It was a great recommendation and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

A trip to Turkey on the UES

By MarlaPilates |

This is family restaurant in the true sense of the word. Not only can you bring your family there, all ages welcome, but three generations are working in the place. The food is authentic, fresh, healthy and reasonable. A real taste of the country prepared with care and served with a smile, not to mention yummy homemade bread!

Speaking About Appetizers . . .

By Harvey M |

I started off with a hot appetizer of Zucchini Pancakes ($10.95) which are pan fried. I probably should not have ordered them. When I ordered them I had in my mind that they were eggplant pancakes, which they were not. I like strong flavors, I generally find that zucchini does not have a strong flavor to it which was the case here with the pancakes. The pancakes were very filling so I ordered the cold appetizer Babaghanoush ($7.95). When I ate it with the bread it made for a delicious dish that I could recommend. This was my third time to the restaurant.

Excellent food, BYOB

By Kate S |

Great food at a great price. The Lamb Sauté was great. Our server mixed up one of our dishes but made it up to us...unnecessarily so because the one we got accidentally was great too. Highly recommended.

Will never come back or even

By thebeautifulguy |

Will never come back or even try to go back here. The 2 employees are not the nicest person I met in a restaurant. Refer to the Service section. Location: It is 2nd avenue, very near to the Airbnb that I am staying at. Service: I came here today at 12 noon. Google and Yelp said they open at 12 so I came here today to order for take out. There were two girls who were arranging the chairs outside for their outdoor seating. I asked one of the girl if I can order to go. Her face looks irritated and asked me “what you want?”, then she talked to the other girl on their language. Based at the tone of her voice while talking on their language, I could sense that she was irritated that I came exact 12 noon and I could sense that she was pissed. I look at the second girl and she looked at me and looked at her watch. She looked irritated too and her face looked annoyed. The first girl asked me again “what you want?” I told her “no worries”, and I left. Food: I didn’t taste any because I left. I already predetermined what I want to buy, it was Lamb Shish, Mixed Appetizers and Baklava. Too bad I won’t able to taste it cause I am not going back. Price rating: N/A Definitely not going back or even trying to go back. Attitude of the employees has to change. So what if I came 12 noon, it says open at 12 noon right? Don’t give me that rude attitude cause I came to the restaurant as a nice customer.

Terrific Food

By DawninDallas |

The sampler platter is amazing as you can try their best appetizers. Their hummus was wonderful! The portion sizes were perfect to split, and the salads are fresh and tasty. The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night so go early (before 7 pm) or be sure to make a reservation.

Good food, polite service

By LSNY12 |

Stopped for early dinner, it BYO on weekdays only, they serve wine on weekends. Great octopus salad and kebab.

Amazing food

By Tinabell232 |

Delicious! The food is fresh and prepared perfectly. I had never has turkish food before coming here and I was so impressed. Server was friendly and helped our table pick out what to get.

Tasty, But Unfortunately A Bit Noisy

By snorkelingfan46 |

We love Turkish food and were in NYC to celebrate the night before my birthday with family, but rather than going where we originally planned, my daughter-in-law suggested Agora which was close to where she and my son live. It was Saturday night around 7:00, so the restaurant was packed... good that we had a reservation! I was, however, a bit put off by the noise level, and was glad we were only a party of 5 so no one at the table was too far away. The arrival of the mezes was enough to divert our attentions well away from the noise. They were delicious, especially the ezme if you happen to like something spicy. We also had Shepard's salad, baba ganoush, hummus, etc., and the bread was warm and excellent. For entrees we share the mixed grill and market priced broiled sea bass that I tasted. The biggest issue with Turkish food is that when it is good, it is hard to not eat a lot, and we were all stuff. So, if a noisy environment puts you off, don a pair of ear plugs (I am serious) and make a reservation at Agora! You won't be sorry.

Excellent Food but Not Inexpensive

By paulachicago2018 |

Had Lunch at Agora. The food is delicious and authentic Turkish cuisine. I tried to fit my order into one of the "Lunch Specials" but could not get exactly what I wanted. I had Shephard Salad, Babganosh, Lamb Adana, and a Turkish coffee. All very delicious but the bill was $28.00. Still a good place for lunch.

Great Food, Great Service & Intimate Setting

By Nick S |

This place is wonderful. The food is absolutely delicious and very satisfying. It's a great spot for a nice lunch or an intimate dinner. It's BYOB and there is a nice wine shop down the block. First time but not last

First time but will not be our last. The service was excellent. Meditate was courteous, helpful suggesting dishes with a smile. The octopus salad was fresh, crispy, lovely. The falafel dishes were a nice portion and yummy, the Sancerre wine was chilled and a nice pour. Great outdoor dining. We wondered why we had never visited this gem.
