We dropped in and was asked to wait for a table. We had wine while waiting. We got seated at a community table within 10 minutes. We had some small snacks (foie gras to die for) and another glass of wine. A short stay this time but we'll be back for sure. The wine list is excellent and the staff attentive and knowledgeable.

Really excellent, perfect for relaxing when running around midtown

Elegant, comfortable, modern at the same time. Great snack menu to go with the wine etc....Aldo is the Sommelier ate Le Bernardin. Say no more

Modern and Stylish Wine Bar

By Richard S |

Excellent service in a modern, stylish atmosphere at this midtown wine bar. The by-the-glass list is pretty abbreviated, but their prices move you towards their excellent bottle list, which is the best value. Didn't get a chance to try their tapas, but they looked/smelled delightful. Will certainly go back!

Went for lunch and came back for after dinner wine!

By Valerie F |

We stopped by for lunch and to try the wines. This place is a fabulous place to try different and unique wines. Had soups and sandwiches for lunch and they were tasty but the wines we tried were amazing! Had a Cab Franc from Hungary that was rich and layered. Wish I could get it in Dallas! We went back around 9 pm and they open a Magnum of something every night and offer 3 ounce pours. This evening it was a beautiful Bordeaux. We also tried some Austrian and Slovakian wines. Don't worry, they have some wines that you will recognize on the menu as well! Loved this place!

Great stems with cold and snobbish service

By Irene Eng |

1 star for the service: cold and snobbish. 5 star for the stems Zalto is one of my faves: thin, light and elegant. Upon entering the bar, a male staff rushed over and greeted us by the door. His attitude could be warmer and friendlier? We’re not your enemy. The young woman who served us is downright cold and snobbish. Sorry that my Chinglish is less than ideal. I thought about the last month we came to find a closed door, in spite of me having called them the night before to check their hours and if close/open. I was assured by a female that they were open. Maybe lousy service is their trade mark.

Terrific WIne Selection in Nice Setting

By SoonerSteve |

The food looked very good but we only drank wine. The wine by the glass selection was quite excellent, and the wine glasses are top knotch. The setting is modern, elegant and relaxing. It is located across the street from Le Bernardin, where Aldo Sohm is the sommelier.

Just perfect

Exactly what we were looking for, a great place to try some lovely wines with friends and have a light snack as well. Lovely friendly ambience with knowledgeable staff.

Great lunch before a show

By Pam, Travel Advisor |

Extremely convenient to Radio City Music Hall, as we caught the afternoon matinee after having a very tasty lunch special with wine pairing. The Corn Chowder was to die for. Very limited seating during busy meal times, but would be a great place to pull up a stool and sip away the afternoon.

“Complete” parties ONLY

By Smhoyer |

Interesting that when I arrived they would only seat “complete” parties. To which I responded I’ll purchase multiple bottles and they said no, seating several in front of me. I then changed my guest list to a party of one and they said they wouldn’t honor that since I already said “three”. Like that episode of Seinfeld, you can’t return the item because you already said “spite”. You would think they’d understand the economics of Wine being a wine bar, but I guess logic escapes house rules. Recall Pretty Woman...you work on commission right...big mistake, huge.” The manager came over and explained to me the very fixed rule of only seating “complete” parties. Apparently the concept of a dimly lit wine bar boasting a list of relatively general wines should seek to position themselves as very exclusive. I think there are much better options in the city to spend on over-priced Wine decorated with the most recent trinkets found at Home Goods. When I look around the tables most are drinking one glass of Wine each. Makes sense having such a stringent policy on “complete” parties to assure at least two glasses of wine are consumed.

Yummy bites to pair with the wine - perfect

By djaungst66 |

Stopped in for a glass of wine after an afternoon of touring the city. Thoroughly enjoyed the Grüner Veltliner, Sohm & Kracher, Alte Reben '15 - crisp and paired well with the crudites. Don't pass up the short rib skewer - smooth as butter.

I got food poisoning at Aldo Sohm

By ravitile |

The wine was excellent. The food was mediocre, but ok for a wine bar. Nothing to write home about, but not so bad to make me write a bad review. We were 8 people for dinner, and we tasted most things on the menu. Out of the 8 of us, 2 (including me) got food poisoning. Apparently, even though the restaurant claims they keep the highest sanitary measures, they don't. When I called to complain, they took my number and never called back. After a few more tries, I eventually managed to talk a manager named Ben who basically ignored my complaints and did not take any responsibility. (He did offer to refund me the price of one particular dish out of the whole meal which seemed the most likely suspect for causing the food poisoning; I thought this was ridiculous and insulting.) I was very surprised and disappointed. If 2 guests in my house would have gotten food poisoning I would be mortified. Not the people of Aldo Sohm....

Great pre dinner stop

By Bill T |

We stopped by for some wine and light snack. Only waited a bit for a table. Wine by the glass list is impressive. Cool spot.

Comfortable and high quality

By Steve Hoffman |

We just stumbled on this place while heading to Radio City Music Hall for the Rocketts Christmas show. If was super comfortable and quiet. The service was top level, we really enjoyed our time there and will be back. We had a bottle of wine and some small food items. The food was very high quality.

Birhday Evening

By Debs |

Found this little gem in Wine Spectator, and decided to give it a try with our daughter who lives in the city. Cozy, elegant feel, like you are at home . Comfy couches. The staff super attentive, and wine list large. We arrived when they opened at 430, and found a spot of the couch. Delicious wine, and the cheese tray we tried was excellent. Intimate and warm place. Don't miss!!!

What a great Experience!

By Moemedic |

This was a last minute visit, while awaiting a late dinner. The staff was inviting, warm, and welcoming. Despite the name and the association with a very prestigious seafood place across the plaza, it was very nice. I appreciated their recommendations. The chicken liver pate/mousse is awesome! I would recommend it in a heartbeat. The Pinot Noir fight was okay, but the wine is superb.... The staff is great, I appreciated their experience and recommendations... Thanks it was truly as I had hoped.

Hidden gem for perfect glass of wine !

By Gregoire P |

Perfect place for a glass of wine and some appetisers before a show ! Not too loud as usually in any bar great selection of wine and perfect service !

Back Again!

By The_Loup_Garou |

I had not heard of Aldo Sohm, Sommelier at Chef Eric Ripert’s Le Bernardin, before we dined at Le Bernardin on a previous visit. This surprised me, as I follow many Sommeliers, such as Andy Chabot (Blackberry Farm), Rajat Parr (Michael Mina), Richard Dean (Campton Place), and Andrea Immer Robinson (author). When we had a morning free in NYC in May, we decided to return, for more wine. Though we did not arrive in the St Regis Bentley this time, we at least knew exactly where the entrance was, and also the drill. We sat on the same stools, as before, and our server had the BTG wine list in my hand immediately. Since we had no plane to catch this time, I got to take my time. Chartogne-Taillet, Sainte Anne, Champagne NV (wife – after all, it WAS her birthday) Stéphane Sérol, Turbullent Rosé, Vin de France NV (me) Ribolla/Tocai/Chardonnay, Massican, Annia, Napa Valley '16 (wife) Assyrtiko, Sigalas, Santorini '17 (me – had just encountered this wine in San Francisco, and enjoyed it) Pernand-Vergelesses, 1er Cru, Champy '12 (wufe) Pinot Noir, Lingua Franca, Avni, Eola-Amity Hills '16 (me) Each wine was an experience, and each was served in a lovely Zalto stem. While not inexpensive (~ $120 for the wine), it was a great value, and we had a very nice time. We did not go with the Cheese Plate, as before, or lunch menu, as I had promised, so had only a glorious “liquid lunch.” We will be back, and then, I will go with the Warm Duck Confit Arugula Salad – I promise!

Amazing!

By Doogleban |

I visited this place with my dad and it was just great. From the moment we walked inside, the staff - one in particular, unfortunately I can't remember her name - were so attentive and helpful. She gave us advice on where to visit in the city and was just so lovely. The food was outstanding, especially the truffle pasta! Would definitely go back. Amazing place tucked away from the hectic Times Square!

Disappointing!

By Antonio N |

Terrible service Lunch time empty place and the food took a very long time to come The waitresses don’t know anything about wine It belongs to Le Bernardin!!!

classy wine bar

By Bethany S |

We stopped by Aldo Sohm on a Friday evening, and we hardly had to wait before being seated. They have a very interesting wine list - I tried an Austrian zweigelt, and hubby tried the pinot noir flight. We split the roasted carrots and a goat cheese/potato/tapenade parfait, and both were delicious. Service was great, but we really loved the ambiance - there were some sofas and some tables, and the lighting was nice. It was a good place to unwind.

A small gem in midtown

By Arlene K |

Came here with friends for a drink and small bites. Tucked into an alley on 51st Street is Aldo’s wine bar. Very small, comfy vibe with couches and a few high tables. Staff was very accommodating. Wine and food was the perfect amount. Will return.

Friendly service by sommeliers

By Irene |

I have been here countless times since moving back to NYC in 2018 - for business, with friends for solo. While the staff may change, they are all very knowledge sommeliers with expertise in specific regions. The wine flight which changes about every month is a fun way to experience 3 glasses by theme. I also love how the music isn't too loud - makes for a great private conversation over wine in an atmosphere that is as comfortable as one's living room.

Freindly staff, pleasant setting

By Freddy Lee |

This place was OK. Just went in for a couple of glasses. The staff was reasonably pleasant by New York standards and bearing in mind it was close to closing time. I expected a larger wine list by the glass. Would return, byt for a cheese and cold cut platter to acompany the wine.

Lovely Spot

By anneksksk |

We stopped in prior to our reservation at Le Bernardin and were pleasantly surprised. This is a chic spot to meet up, casual but elegant. We each had a glass of the La Chapelle Gordonne, Côtes de Provence Pierrefeu which was perfect. I discovered later that Aldo is also the lead sommelier for Le Bernardin and he has won numerous sommelier competitions. I look forward to going back to try out the food menu.

Great for good wine

By JohnnyZnyc |

Food is delicious, you can try their small plates which are very good with wine. Atmosphere is so welcoming. Very good to go with your girl friend. Also good for small meetings.

Great winebar

By maestro074 |

Very nice winebar with good selection of original wines, nice selection of small tasty dishes and very friendly staff. Great place to have a glass of wine and a small bite

A Rare Perfect Place

By Ina60763 |

This is the perfect place for a light pre-theater meal. This is the perfect place for a late snack. This is the perfect place for a divine glass of wine anytime. Service is impeccable. Food delicious. Atmosphere quiet, at least in the early evening. All this perfection to be expected as the bar enjoys the same ownership as nearby Le Bernardin, one of the finest restaurants in New York, or anywhere. Best seat in the house is one of the two corners on the three sided couch.

Fabulous moment

By Cha C |

A very good moment in a cosy bar. The decoration is amazing And the staff take care A very good wine card with fabulous french wine Thanks André ! We come back soon :) Charlotte from french riviera

Exceptional wines, satisfying small bites

By Todd W |

This is the place to go post theater with your favorite wine connoisseur friends...the selection runs the gamut reliably appealing to experimental. The small bites will help round out your experience.

Outstanding food and wine

By W&G |

This place has really outstanding food and wine. Went with the waiter's recommendation and we were not disappointed. The location is also great, nice mood light and beautiful interior.

'Night cap' after the show

By MortenK689 |

Attended one of the shows the other night and had time to a selection of European art cheeses and a glass of red wine on the way back to the hotel. The Wine Bar is exclusively located between W 51 and 52 Street, and the room is big and modern, but still with good acoustics and a fine atmosphere. Staff was friendly and welcoming even though it was late. From the wine list I could choose only one red wine by the glass from US: Cab S 2015 from Gramercy Celllars in Columbia Valley. Splendid wine, but I could wish a broader supply of local wines. Any way: Will I go there again? Yes, as soon as possble.

Relaxing Metro Wine Bar

By Chickelbuck |

This is how I always pictured adult night life in NYC. Hip, upscale wine bar with mod seating and atmosphere. Decent wine menu with tapas available. We stopped in to absorb the scene and enjoy some nice wine. I enjoyed my Pinot Noir flight while my husband sampled two cabernets. It is a bit noisy, but you can have a reasonably intimate conversation without being overheard. There are high top tables or comfy couch seating. It was about half full of patrons and quite comfortable. This would be a cool place to meet friends after work.

Go for the wine

By K travelers |

Nice selection of wines. Food is not at par. Expensive and not generous. Duck salad is more salad than duck with a little cube of confit on top of aragula plate. Service is not consistent.

Nice experience

By Gerard_Zatopek |

Fantastic ambience, great wine! If you want a pleasant location to have a glass of wine and some classy food, don't miss it.

Chic New York wine bar

By Ruthie A |

Run by the master sommelier from Le Bernadin - excellent appetizers to go with good wine. Very sleek with a bit of decorative whimsy made for a perfect end to an evening in the city.

An Inexpensive Way to Drink the Best!

By YaleDad |

Wines by the glass or bottle and bites from Le Bernadin across the street? What could be better? My only quip was that they were closed on weekends during the summer months. My favorite place to drink with friends in NYC, hands down.

Outstanding trendy wine bar

By Dutch_Travel-R |

The Aldo Sohm Win Bar is a relatively small, trendy, wine bar. It sits discretely tucked away in a small square on 51st street. The beautiful design furniture provides a gorgeous surroundings for the excellent wines that are served. We ordered a cheese plate, with cheeses from France, Spain and the Netherlands, which was absolutely delicious (even for a Dutch native!). 100% outstanding.

Great deal and excellent food

By USCKaboom |

The lunch options here are a steal. For $16 they have a two course of salad, soup, or sandwich. The romaine salad was large and good and the mushroom soup was very nice. We also got the duck rillettes and the short ribs which were both great.

Fab wines, fab eats

By David J |

You want incredible wines by the glass, cool vibe and tasty apps? This is it. Aldo is THE wine dude, period. And they have a list that is spectacular. If the ain't got it, you don't need it. Great after-work place that isn't your typical frat boy midtown pub with bangers and mash and coffee-esque beer.

Wine bar par excellence

By HealthyFoodies |

Aldo Sohm is the head sommelier at nearby Le Bernardin (probably the best French restaurant in the U.S.), where we've been floored by the wine list on past visits. This was our first NYC visit since he opened this wine bar, and it was a MUST on our agenda. We went twice and had a lot of fun. Stick around until about 9 PM each night when the staff opens a special bottle--usually a magnum or larger--and offers glass pours. Super place, very comfy and high toned.

Special Occassion Treat

By HappyCamper48 |

On a trip to Manhattan, my sis and I were early arrivals at fairly new Aldo Sohm, La Bernadin’s wine bar. The bar was deserted when we arrived, and quickly filled up with business suit types. We were seated at a comfy couch. We ordered the short rib skewer ($12), the cheese plate ($21), and each had two glasses of wine ($18 - $25). Our server was great – friendly and knowledgeable. The manager saw me glancing around looking for the restroom and rushed over to see what I needed. This was a splurge for us. It was fun and the service was impeccable. One note, when we received our check, it included a glass of cremant from the adjacent table.

Great food & wine - at a price!

By donsyb |

We came here on christmas day for a light dinner. Based on the reviews, we each had the merguez and shared the pasta. The pasta was really amazing! I could have eaten another three bowls - just out of greed.... The wine was expensive at around $20 per glass, and two glasses of wine, two merguez and on pasta cost almost as much as the three course meal we had with bubbles and a bottle of wine a few days later at Perry St!

Busy wine bar yet excellent service

By WEQueen |

It's a popular addition to the midtown afterwork scene and tables fill up quickly yet service is flawless and tables are quickly arranged after some wait. Nice selection of small plates. The truffle pasta with the yak cheese was outstanding so too the tuna tartine. Of course, nice wine list.

Full house at 5 pm treated rude

By bjezd |

My husband and I read reviews and picked this spot for anniversary drink and light dinner before a show. We were greeted and put on wait list, once we had a waitress swing by for a drink order (she was sweet) we asked her to check on out wait time and I watched as she did... The management at the door was very rude, she said "tell them an hour" and gave a roll your high school look. The kind waitress offered us a seat in the vestibule but we left after feeling so uncomfortable. Won't be trying them now.

Great wine bar

By Sebastian A |

Very nice place with an excellent wine list from all over the world (by the glass and by the bottle). Interesting but limited gastronomic proposal (it is clear that the star here is the wine). Highly recommended.

Favorite Wine Bar

By Ihearttravel100 |

There are a lot of wine bars in NYC, and this place makes the experience fantastic. The staff is so knowledgeable, and was very patient when I was asking a lot of questions because I wanted to learn. I tried 3 different wines, ordered some food, and asked for them to help guide me on what would work well with what I ordered. It was perfect. The wines really meshed beautifully with what I was eating, and it made the overall experience incredible. I’ve been to many places where I’ve asked for the same guidance, and don’t feel they took as much care with their decisions as Sohm did. Can’t wait to go back for the 9pm Pour!

Great Place

Great place for a light meal / snack and glass of wine before the theater Nice decor and a decent upscale clientele

Cauliflower Head? With chicken salt?

By DktrO |

It was 2pm and we were looking for a snack around 51st and 7th avenue in NYC. Walking down 51st, we noticed a cut-through between buildings and a "Wine Bar" sign. Yes! That would be perfect. We enter a softly lit, high ceiling, warm large room with modern art and decor. a large U-shaped sofa was centered, with high tops around the perimeter. The bar took up the wall straight ahead. The menu had many interesting features but one that caught our eye was the "Whole Baked Cauliflower with "Roasted chicken salt". What? A whole cauliflower? That must be huge! It was. Big enough for two? Definitely. Need to order anything else? No. How do they cook it? Poached in chicken broth, roasted with chicken salt. Perfectly balanced in terms of saltiness, but greed had me wanting more of the chicken salt, which seemed to me like deep fried skin blended into powder. But then I never take the skin off my chicken. This kept us filled the rest of the day and we had to force ourselves to eat a light dinner late in the evening. A sauvignon blanc was a perfect pairing.

By Renae B |

This wine bar was recommended to us and we would recommend it as well. Great food, great wines, great service. Little pricey, but we thought it was worth it. Fun to chill with the after work crowd. "Will" was our server and was very knowledgable and helpful. Ask for him! ;)

Exceptional Experience in Perfect Setting

By SeanKStewart |

I'd been wanting to check this out on one of my business trips to NYC. From the space itself to the exquisite Zalto glassware to the fine wines and delicious upscale share/small bites menu, HEAVEN! Anyone looking for an upscale wine bar experience must come here. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

A great place to have a drink!

By Enzo |

Push the door to enter this cozy bar with a very warm and sought-after decoration. Perfect for a drink or snack. We took the tower of cold cuts and cheese, very hearty for the Award with very good product. A wide selection of drinks and wine. Little extra for fish terrine, excellent.

A pleasure

By phototheworld |

This is more than a fine wine bar, it also works as a lovely lunch place. Their small bites are far better, far more imaginative and more varied than at any ordinary wine bar. The service is excellent and the seating generally very good. Of course, the selection of wines is outstanding, as well.

Amazing!!!

By KC.25 |

Absolutely perfect vibe here! The seating is perfect - we were seated at the sofa area and it was so relaxing yet sophisticated. The wine was brilliant and our waiter knew exactly what to pair things with and gave us full info on the wines. The food was just delicious. We would 100% visit again next time we are in NYC - it was our favourite place the whole visit!

Creative plates for sharing; imaginative wine selections

By Tom G |

Aldo Sohm has a creative array of small plates, charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, tartes, snacks, and sweets, with a wine list featuring finds from around the world. We enjoyed the Le Bernardin Salomon Rillettes with a toasted baguette ($24), and the lobster and mushroom Tartes Flambees ($28). For wines, we sipped through the tasty Arnot-Roberts Trout Gulch, Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay ($35), the 2023 Clemensbusch Riesling ($19), and the 2022 Lequin-0Colin Bourgogne ($25). Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. This may be our favorite wine bar in NYC.

Nice comfortable loungy wine bar

By Chris B |

Great place to stop for a nice glass of wine and decent heavy small plates. The short rib was very flavorful and (surprisingly) not too messy. Not to be fooled by the name, the "tuna in a can" (although much lighter) is also quite good. Service is prompt and informative, answering all our questions quickly and easily. Definitely recommend Aldo - particularly later in the evenings if your looking for a place to wind down from the day.

Amazing

By GFK88 |

Aldo's "living room" is a cozy retreat for wine lovers. Carefully selected, beautiful wines, presented in stunning Zalto glassware. Food pairs perfectly well and service comes with a genuine smile. Aldo takes his time to speak to most of his guests and shares his profound knowledge and contagious passion. I will be back, again and again.

The wine bar run by the most famous sommelier in America

By Bryce S |

You can make the case Aldo Somm, the sommelier at Le Bernadine, is the most famous sommelier in America. He has a wine bar a Hirt distance from th3 famous restaurant in midtown Manhattan. It is located in the base of the UBS building on 6th Avenue. There used to be a corridor connecting the cross streets. It might be called 6 1/2 Avenue. The wine bar is there. There is a large, central living room seating area. High top tables for four people line the left and right walls. There is outdoor seating. There is a long bar on the back wall of the room. It is modern and elegant. They primarily serve bar food and wine. The wines are available by the glass or bottle. You would wonder what wine costs. Although they have bottles in the hundreds and thousands, you can find a few bottles in the $50 to $60 range. We ordered a Spanish white wine in this price range. We visited from 4:00 to 5:00. One of the cool things they do is gently lowering the lighting over time. One of the features is the large format sized bottle they open at 9:00 PM. Apparently Aldo selects one every evening. That would be fun to try. This was fun. I would come back.

Perfect wine bar with delicious small plates

By Kate L |

A cosy bar with bar, stool or sofa seating. A fantastic wine list with delicious plates of food. Burrata and the bresoala croque were highlights.

Oh so chic!

By wilach |

Aldo Sohm created an oasis of excellence in Midtown (a neighboirhood that needs so desperately places like this). We had a small gathering of friends and had many bottles of champagne along incredible appetizers. Of course everybody loved it!!! Service was second to none, lighting low and sexy and the art around the room carefully chosen just to make a statement without being overpowering. The place is refined, and extremely comfortable. Ideal for a meal before the shows or for drinks after work, it is intimate enough for a special date. We had an extraordinary evening!!!!

delicious food and wine what a dream

By zoe646 |

I love the decor and the way it is set up, it is at the same time artisty and very comfortable.I loved the other patrons style young and lively, The wines choices are really interesting and takes you out of your comfort zone but it is always a wonderful surprise And the food was incredible: I had a truffle pasta, charcuterie, cheese DELICIOUS

Almost excellent. Run, don't walk

By Ritz1165 |

Strange how the decor here is so cheap and relatively unattractive. The food and wine are first rate, as is the service. And I mean AMAZING. All three. The charcuterie and cheese were delicious and varied and served at just the right temperature. The short rib skewer and accompanying polenta, dreamy. could have eaten 10. The chicken liver mousse was more like a thick soup but so good I sopped it up with the crusty bread. The cauliflower was fine, if not overcooked. Drank the Finger Lakes Riesling. Great value and delicious. Willing to forgive the decor, but just don't get it... +

Great wine, good food & wonderful atmposphere

By bigonion |

We had a wonderful time at Aldo's Wine Bar! The atmosphere is upbeat and very comfortable. We sat at one of the tall four-tops that line the wall and enjoyed two glasses of wine and a few small plates of food. Our server - Sarah - was lovely and Aldo was working the floor on a Saturday night greeting guests and making conversation. The food was of a much higher quality than one might find at your average wine bar. The wine itself - not only what we had but the entire wine list - was outstanding.

Phenomenal wine by the glass selection and fun

By Flyway2much |

A great variety and this place is expensive but still fun. The Stemware they serve in is very delicate but exceptional. I wasn't expecting much but it felt fun and not pretentious. Food menu was well done and the cheese tray (never heard who Murray is ) was very well presented. I am going back

Great small plate and excellent wine bar

By mccabe4447 |

Small, friendly place. Knowledgeable wine staff.....many nice choices for wine by glass or bottle. Many small plates to chose from....excellent Pate, short rib skewers, cheese plate.

Great high end wine bar

By sealbeachtraveler |

This place is busy, but tables opened up pretty quick at 6pm on a Thursday. The wine selection was interesting and I had a great Tannant. We were going to dinner so did not eat at Aldo Sohm, but the food looked amazing on other tables.

My Favorite Wine Bar in the City

By Travels With Titone |

What do you get when you combine a smartly decorated wine bar, a fantastic location, and killer wine choices???? Well, you get Aldo Sohm Wine Bar. My heading says it all, this really is my favorite wine bar in NYC. My advice is check this place out today. Looking for a quick bite to eat? Boom Looking to stop and have a glass or two of wine?? Boom! Every trip I take to the city I make it a point to stop in here at least once, if not more!!

Example of the best

By PedroNP |

A chic, beautifully presented Manhattan bar. Amazing wine list and superb menu - the tapas plates were incredible. Table service was impeccable. Knowledgable, friendly and engaging. If you are in Manhattan, you need to experience this place.

Very good wine and small plates, fantastic service

By Breen B |

We had a very different experience than many of your reviewers. We were staying nearby and walked over with no reservation for a light supper. They were very busy, but the host immediately found us a lovely table in the corner of the U-shaped sofa. Our server was prompt, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The charcuterie and cheeses were outstanding with a 375ml bottle of Laherte Frères, Extra Brut NV Champagne. After, we shared a Tarte Flambée. They did not have an Alsatian white by the glass, but our server recommended a lovely Riesling from the Mosel as a substitute. I would like more reserve wines by the glass using their Coravin system; if they had, I would have rated it excellent instead of very good.

Great, I mean great, wines by the glass

By Todd Shissler |

Which is not to say that the wines by the glass are cheap because they are not, but they are great. These wines you would normally only see by the bottle at many restaurants, but here, you can get that fantastic pour of burgundy and bourdeaux.

So cute

By Excursion733256 |

The wine was so good - pricey, but delicious and worth it. Great vibe with the couches. Hidden gem for sure.

taste of Le Bernadin without the time commitment

By Max P |

If you just want some great sips and nibbles, come here. Wonderful for catching up with friends over a glass or two of wine. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. We would definitely return.

A Gem

By Mark C |

Nice. Very nice. Well appointed wine bar with great food choices. Wish I had discovered Aldo prior to this trip. Stopped in post theatre for a few glasses of wine and some food. The Tuna Tartine and Chicken Mousse were great. The Cauliflower was okay, while perfectly tender did not have any real flavor. There were plenty of other options will have to try on future visits.

Something for everyone, great vibe, terrific wines and cocktails menu

By homazoma |

Hostess Cassidy and Server Alex took great care of us, we were there for drinks and apps with a group of 7. The bar was busy but we were made to feel special - loved the cauilflower app also ! Next time I want couch seating HAHA!. Good place to meet up pre-dinner. Nice Wine offerings as well as cocktails.

Definitely on our must do list for future trips.

By Papa Bri |

Recommend by a friend. We had an early dinner reservation elsewhere, and it was a little late for lunch, so we shared an excellent cheese board (Chefs choice of four). Also shared a Gruner wine pairing and a great Cab. It turned out to be a great version of “Afternoon Tea”, American style. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Delicious and cozy atmosphere

By Larabc02 |

Found this hidden gem... delicious burrata and mozarella appetizer with olive bread amd olive oil. And the lunch specials - soups and sandwhiches are very gourmet. Great for a casual business or fun lunch with friends. Did't try the wine but I am sure it is good!

Fun atmosphere!

By Marisela P |

Just visited this past July and I loved this wine bar! Fun and lively with great food and wine. We really enjoyed the charcuterie, burrata (amazing!) and the roasted cauliflower was awesome! I look forward to going back my next time in the city.

Nice place to have a glass of wine

By Kaptx |

Nothing fancy here, but a good little place to have a glass. Not cheap (but it is NYC). Good selection, and while we did not eat, food at the adjoining tables looked very good. Great service.

Delightful evening stop

By wreath |

Right next door to Le Bernardin (right side) is a Galleria with a Rabbit statue - walk diagonally through the galleria to entrance under the gray/red & blue/red stripes - Aldo Sohm Wine Bar. Quiet, sophisticated - couch seating in center or tall bar tables around "the square". Bar seating also available.Nice art work on the walls. Tall, tall ceiling. Knowledgeable waiter, small plates - nice portions, delicious food. The Wine Glasses are in and of themselves worth seeing and holding - most delicate stemware ever ! Purposely made for this establishment - we'll be going back to this oasis!! Stopped enroute to Broadway Show.

Fantastic and pricey

A cool place brought to you by the folks from Le Bernardin. Aldo Sonn I think was his sommelier for years. Good food -- great wines -- great decor

Absolutely loved the vibe and the menu.

Absolutely loved the vibe and the menu. Very smart wine choices (of course) and the small portion menu is outstanding.

Quiet Out of the snow

By E376 |

Stopped in here to escape the snow. Quiet place, about 5pm. Quick service. Great wine and beer selection. Very attentive staff.

Fun, creative, delicious

By jih2lex |

Having read several excellent professional reviews, I was quite eager to try Aldo Sohm. It lived up to every expectation. The food was fabulous (do not miss the truffle pasta with Yak cheese - really.) The wine list was extensive and the servers knowledgable, making for a lovely evening. We never felt rushed, and lingered over several glasses and small plates. It was a delightful evening and quite convenient to many mid town locations. Will definitely go back!!!

Perfect place to sample wines

By 14giuseppe |

First of all i have to say that the deco and glassware is nothing short of spectacular . The Zalto glassware they are using are superb Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable a lot more than you would find elsewhere. I also own a high end restaurant and i can tell you that all the staff are very professional and attentive. I strongly recommend it . Pierangelo Lanfranchi

Expensive Experience

By Marion C |

All things considered, NYC is a bit more expensive than many cities. Having said that, this wine bar was over the top. The atmosphere was very relaxing. Our wine was very nice. The tapas were very well prepared. Our experience overall was great but I would not go back do to the total of our bill. Perhaps that is why the wine bar was sparsly filled all evening. I do not recommend this wine bar due to the value.

A great spot for wine and small plates pre-show. Or anytime

By Canexpats |

Intriguing wine list. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very good quality food. Great decor. We got there early enough to not wait for a table but things filled up by 6:45, so plan ahead.

Wonderful PRE Play Visit

By Bonarrigo |

I always enjoy sitting at the bar our server was very knowledgeable as he guided us thru our wine selections. As a Winemaker I appreciate a server with great knowledge of his products. Nice selection of cheese. Very nice atmosphere My wife had the Sangiovese Flight Go Seghesio I had the Argentine Malbec Excellent

NOISY, BUSY BUT HAD ATMOSPHERE

By M W |

Having been effectively timed out at Le Bernadin, we moved to the adjacent Aldo Sohm Wine Bar. The atmosphere was buzzing with visitors and locals alike. There was a very good wine selection, and the sommeliers obviously knew their jobs. Despite being busy, they imparted their knowledge and allowed us to taste a couple of wine samples. Worth another visit.

Quite and Comfortable

By johntmurraysr |

If you love wine with very knowledgeable servers in modern but intimate setting then go here. They have a large selection of excellent wines with a trained staff to guide you. You can sit in a living room setting or bistro tables or the bar. An oasis in he heart of midtown

Great environment, but wine a bit lacklustre

By Angrystrudel |

Great buzz, and a smart bar. Good for midweek drinks with friends or as a couple. We were however a bit disappointed that there were so few American based wines, just two whites by the glass and no reds. We would’ve also appreciated tasting notes for each wine, or indeed the waiter offering this to enhance the experience. Sadly he was more intent on pushing us to buy more wine, than offering any insights or knowledge to each glass. The wines we did have were average examples of the grapes you’re drinking, and sadly were very much overpriced. Nonetheless, it’s NYC.. We probably wouldn’t return as the quality of the wine let the place down, and we are keen to explore USA wine. However, as a group of friends you can certainly have a good evening I’m sure here as the bar itself has a nice buzz.

New Great Discovery

By Antonio C |

Great place to enjoy good wines with great food. Not overcrowded at lunch time. The pâté and the Brie were delicious. Quiet place an the service and the attention were very good. I would gladly go back to try some of the other things they have to offer.

#9pmpour advertising doesn't match with reality, depending on the day. Great wine list and place for quiet drinks.

If there were half stars, I would add a half star. I am torn about writing this review. That said, for what you are spending at this wine bar and if you are a serious wine lover, you'll want these details. If you are coming close to the time Aldo opens, ask if your wine by the glass was opened that day. As you can see from my pictures attached, there are many corked bottles of wine in a cooler at closing time, when I was there. It's not clear if those bottles were opened today, but they will be selling them on May 24 at the same price. If you're planning to come for the 9 PM magnum pour, your experience will depend on how many people are in the bar. This wine bar does not decant or aerate the 9 PM magnum to show the maximum potential of the wine or to tempt you to buy another glass. If you are coming to this wine bar as an out-of-town visitor and this is the only time you'll be here: read this very carefully before deciding to come here. My pictures are attached. Here are the details: This place has been on my bucket list for a long time. I collect wine. I follow Aldo Sohm on Instagram, and I love the diversity of wines for their 9 PM magnum pours. My friend, who comes here frequently, said the servers usually walk around and pour wine tastes for people to enjoy and buy a glass. As referenced by the attached postcard distributed at the restaurant, you also get a plate paired with your magnum pour. On May 23, none of those things happened. I called ahead to find out what the magnum was going to be for the night. The answer: a Chilean cab blend. They finally posted the bottle on Instagram, and the line was made by Patrick Vallette. It sounded great. My friend and I came ready to enjoy a glass of the magnum. Our server, who was excellent throughout the evening, came back with the magnum. She informed me it would be $45 for the glass. I don't know if that's the normal price per magnum glass, but I was excited to try this one. I said ok! I ordered the vegan spaghetti squash with Bolognese. I am IN LOVE with that dish. The Bolognese sauce had the right amount of spice, and the spaghetti squash was perfectly cooked. I ate so much so fast, and was sad when I got to the last bite. I sipped at my glass of wine. Why? Aldo Sohm does not decant or aerate their magnum wine for you to enjoy the wine at its best. They poured me a $45 glass of wine, and expected I was going to sit there and wait for it to develop into what I should be drinking an hour and a half later instead of at the moment of consumption. Why? They were never intending to open the bottle if no one asked for it. We were the only ones who requested it. Once my friend saw the bottle was just opened, he decided to not have it. The servers did not walk around and pour tastes of the wine for the few there, even though they had an almost full magnum. I asked our server about the discrepancy in the legend of the 9 PM pours versus what was happening that night. She informed me it depends on how many people are in the bar. She said they were going to take the magnum and sell glasses of it the next day, day old wine, for the same price. She also informed us that they stopped doing the off the menu dish "a long time ago." Strange, since they give you an Aldo After Dark postcard which says you're going to receive a plate of food. I've attached pictures of how dead this place was. My server said it's very packed at happy hour. There were only eight people in the picture with the magnum yesterday during happy hour. I don't know what they consider "packed." A man was walking around with two Jeroboams of rose. My friend and I stopped to ask him about them and for what they were going to be used. The man seemed very tired. He said they were going to pour it for the next day's wine special in honor of the Grand Prix in Monaco. He started explaining what the Grand Prix was. Based on how he described it, he seemingly assumed two people of color had had never heard of one of the most famous races in the world. It felt condescending, so I stopped his description and let him know we knew what the race was. Despite the magnum weirdness, they really do have a great wine list. Check out the picture of the list! My friend had the Priorat and loved it. I had the Becker Pinot Noir, which was tasty. Will I return? Yes. It was a nice, quiet place to get a glass of wine and catch up with a friend. The spaghetti squash is phenomenal, and I can't wait to have it again. I really liked my server and her excellent service. I now know to ask many questions about the wine I'm drinking before purchase. Given the reputation of this place, it's sad I need to ask those questions about the wine being served.

Meh!!

By TRIPMOM2012 |

My husband and I dropped by after the Wednesday matinee. We found the staff friendly and very knowledgeable about the wine. The bar is very attractive, modern and comfortable but surprisingly stuffy. Music and voices are all quite muted. I like the fact that we could hear one another but it didn't produce a fun vibe. My main disappointment was the food. It really wasn't up to the standard that one would expect from Eric Ripert. We had the romaine, carrots, tuna and boudin. The veggies and the tuna were nice enough but the boudin was awful. It was extremely bland almost as if they had completely forgotten the spices including salt. Then to pair it with mustard only served to emphasize the "hot dog" impression. But the biggest let down was that we mentioned it to the server. In her defense she offered to bring us something to replace it but we thought that we were leaving so said "no thanks". After a bit we decided to give it another try and ordered the veggies. We noticed that she pointed out our dissatisfaction to the manager but the manager never approached us. And then to our surprise it was still on the final bill. We weren't going to make a fuss over $9 but it certainly is not the way to have guests return. I wouldn't recommend it.

Felt like an oasis in the bustle of the city

By Marian E |

My sister and I stopped in here on a Wednesday afternoon. We walked in and suddenly felt like we weren't even in Midtown Manhattan anymore! The decor is adorable and eclectic, and it has a very welcoming feel. We ordered two glasses of wine (rosé and Pinot noir - $17 apiece seemed steep but it is NYC), which were both delicious. On the recommendation of the server, we got a few items to share instead of the lunch specials. There were lots of tempting options, but we went with the cauliflower (no joke, it's a whole head!), beet skewers, and Jambon Buerre, which came with the most delicious mustard and cornichons. We were very pleased with the food and overall experience.

Pre theater dinner

By DJHolroyd |

My wife & I had tickets for a play at a local theater last week, and we were looking for somewhere for a light pre-theater dinner. We found the Aldo Sohm Wine Bar. It's associated with La Bernadine, the famous New York restaurant. We ate some charcuterie, a salad and a carrot dish, followed by a cheese plate. The home made pate was spectacular, the wild boar rillette and saucisson we excellent. Best of all was the bread. We washed these dishes down with a glass of prosecco ($7) and a flight of Sicilian reds ($14). The bill was $125 - a bargain for this caliber of food, wine and service. Times Squares a difficult area for a good light meal. Give this wine bar a try.

A Hidden Gem

By Bluesprout61 |

We called into Aldo Sohm after a matinée theatre performance, on a hot Saturday afternoon. Away from the madness of Times Square, we found this oasis of calm, in a low-lit, tastefully decorated, cool room. The menu has lots of small dishes, almost tapas-style. We chose a few to start, then shared a cheese board. The wine selection is excellent. Service was friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. We would definitely return.

Good after-office hangout

By Rhyncus |

This is a cosy wine bar located in the recessed area beside the Bernardin. It has a few couches & tables in the central well and a few high-chair tables strewn around the periphery of the room. But the bar counter is also fine for a full meal as you will receive efficient service there as well. The place can be noisy but not so much to prevent you from having your own conversations. We walked in around 6:30 on a weekday and the place was standing-room only. But there was always a quick churn of people as they finished their two after-office drinks and moved on homewards. The place emptied out significantly by 9 pm, with even a few tables unoccupied. The wine list is exhaustive with options for every taste and wallet. The eats tend towards the shareable communal options and seem like enough thought has been invested in them. Overall, a nice place - go early to feel the buzz of a big-city hangout, go later to have a leisurely wine dinner with close friends.

A lovely place amid the chaos of the midtown west..

By nmk369 |

I was having a horrible experience around the corner at the Manhattan Times Square Hotel ( do not stay there!! Inept plus bed bugs with bites to prove it!) and Aldo Sohm provided an oasis. The service was knowledgable, professional, but not intrusive. The snacks were perfectly paired with the wine list. Eric Rupert and his team always seem to get it right! I wish they would train the rest of the world.

Sisters night

By Carol O |

Recently visited this cozy wine bar with my sisters. Upon arrival we were told to wait near the bar area until our table was ready. (We did not make reservations). We waited a short while and browsed through the menu to select our drink of choice. The waiter was very kind and explained the wines very well. By the time our drinks were brought out an after a few sips, our table was ready. Again, greeted by another gracious waiter who took our order in no time. The cheese plates (burrata& mozzarella and baked Camembert) that we ordered came out very fast. I personally didn't care for the smell or taste of the Camembert, it's more of an acquired taste. Overall, if you're in midtown and looking for a nice place to enjoy wine and cheese or a meal, this is a place to check out.

Great place, even better service!

By Eatchoon |

Great wine selection by an a widely acclaimed sommelier. We know our wines but were paralysed by the wide selection. Thankfully for us, we had Carla serving us that evening. Bright, young and knowledgeable, she expertly guided us through 5 different wines that we had. She made a great place truly memorable.

Stopped in here just seeing

By Laura G |

Stopped in here just seeing the sign on the street. Warm ambiance. Cozy seating with very tall ceilings. Prompt friendly service. We got 2 bottles of wine with cheese and charcuterie. Charcuterie tower was a good value and the cheeses were outstanding. Excellent quiet spot off the beaten path but close to the sights.

Extensive fine wine list, casual setting

By Holly T |

Really creative environment. Excellent wine list and well served. Not overly expensive and well located for mid town.

Unimpressive

By Mark S |

The space is nice, with a modern feel. The couch seating in the center is quite comfortable. The wines that we drank were uniformly good, as was the cheese that accompanied them. Unfortunately, the service was just plain poor. Our waiter consistently stood near the front door and chatted up the young female hostess. Only when we successfully got his attention did he come over briefly before going back to talk with his buddy. This could not have gone on for about an hour with a competent service manager present. Another waiter was attentive to his tables, so you may be lucky if you go.

Fun place for a post-lunch glass of wine

By breinings |

We ate lunch across the way at Le Bernardin and knew this wine bar was associated with it, so popped in. We didn't eat. The choices for by-the-glass wines were part eclectic, part familiar (so no need to avoid it if you only drink Chardonnay or Cab). The wine glasses had the skinniest stems ever. I was afraid to swirl because I can be a klutz!! But our bartender was great and chatted when he could The only negative was walking across the courtyard....for some reason people were allowed to smoke there. And they did in droves!

Cocktail-time waystation

By Tom G |

Comfortable couches and settees, although your table mates in chairs are sitting much higher (person next to us sat on pillows to be at eye-level with his companion). Interesting selection of foreign and domestic wines. A bit pricey. Wide selection of charcuterie, cheese plates, tasting plates with small portions (extensive vegetarian selection; short rib, lamb, chicken). A bit pricey.

A cool place for winelovers

By Ana Fit |

The Aldo Sohm Wine bar is located near "Le Bernardin" in Midtown, in NY. I went there for a quick lunch after a casual stroll around midtown and Times Square. The place's interior is sophisticated, and comes with a gorgeous scenery. Its personnel and waiters are very kind and attentive. I went there for a quick lunch and ordered the grilled chicken paillard, with a glass of Sauvignon white wine. The wine was delicious, and came from a huge wine menu. I think that this place is a great reference for everyone who enjoys wine, because the choice is so rich. The chicken paillard was delicious and fresh. In sum, I enjoyed my lunch and wine and hope to return to Aldo Sohms' winebar as soon as possible.

Beware of the front of house, face dosent fit you wont get a table!

By Clare S |

This was the worst place we visited in New York., and we visited plenty. It was not down to decor, wine but the woman on the doo, front of house! We arrived at this wine bar and it was busy. We walked in the same time as another couple. Our names where taken and we were on the list or so we thought! We had a seat around the wine bar and our waitress was fantastic. (This lady should have been front of house!)The couple we had walked in with were seated at a table and we should of been next on the list. Meanwhile i had noticed a few more groups enter and hugs and kisses given by the front of house. I heard you wont have to wait long!! A table was becoming free after a 20 minute wait and i asked the waitress if we were next. She went to check. Next thing the front of house came over in our faces saying your on the list! i pointed out that we should be next to which she said we were 4th! When i politely pointed out what i had witnessed she then became rude and agitated oh and sarcastic. At nearly £50 for just two glasses of wine i was not going to put up with this kind of service. At the prices charged you expect a professional. As i say our waitress was fantastic, observant, knew the wine list, friendly and polite. So if your face doesn't fit, or your not a friend of the front of house dont bother! Better off going across the road to Ruths! Dont waste your money. Also the cauliflower looked awfull! Change the front of house and i would go back without hesitation!

Excellent time watching French Open and sipping prosecco

By Adrienne C |

I walk by this place all the time and was happy to see they’d be steaming the French Open. We had a blast sipping Kir Royales and prosecco and munching hors d’œuvres while watching great tennis unfold. Like many wine bars, it’s on the pricier side, but the ambience is great (maybe a bit corporate) and the drinks/bites are delicious.

Poor service

By alexander |

We enjoyed the wines but the service here was terrible. Our waiter ignored us and generally approached us as if he didn’t like us or was pissed off. When he poured us wine, mine was dramatically less than who I was with. If you are looking to be ignored, feel unwelcome but enjoy good wine then this place is for you. Otherwise, please enjoy the plethora of other wine bars (not this one) in Manhattan. Oh and the bathroom has piss on the floor.

Lovely Wine Bar

By 232tmg |

We decided to stop in again for a few bottles of wine and possibly a cheese plate. Due to the holiday weekend it was not to busy, so we were able to get a couple of comfortable seats on the couch. The music was playing and the environment was very relaxing. We ordered a bottle of wine from the same server we have had in the past, she assisted in making some recommendations. We eventually also ordered a cheese plate which consisted of four cheeses, honey, fresh preserves and fresh bread. We ordered a second bottle of wine, they offered to bring more bread as well which we accepted since we still had some of the cheese plate left. The wine list is still quite extensive, they cover the globe and they do have other small plates to choose from. It's always a relaxing environment here, you won't be disappointed. Cheers

Great lunch deal in midtown

By USCKaboom |

If you are in midtown I highly recommend stopping for lunch. They have a 2 course prix fixe for only $16! You can pick from two of either salads, soups, or sandwiches. I had the chopped salad and the turkey tartine. For another $9 you can have a glass of wine with it. Simple nice place.

Happy hour was great

By Architecture and food |

Follow the people after work and we dropped in to have an evening drink on our way home. Buzzy and fun but best of all very good price on a round of happy hour drinks

Loved this place! Great wine!

Had a lovely lunch here! The chenin blanc was divine. We had some really lovely bites too, especially the fois gras. Highly recommend.

Nice spot for drinks and apps

By Bonnie H |

The wine selection is nice. You can have by the glass or the bottle. There is a nice vibe there and the staff is very helpful in picking out your wine. The seating is limited and you need to get there early. They have a nice variety of apps. Seemed to be a hot spot for after work drinks.

cozy and exceptional wines

enjoyed recommended wine selections with don't miss baked brie so yummy and poerfect wine pairing. The couches are cozy to sit and chat while sipping.

Great place for wine lovers

By Karen H |

Terrific cozy spot with a fabulous wine list by Aldo Sohm. The wine flights are great and there is a large variety of wines by the glass. The food is perfect for pairing. Highly recommend when you are in mid-town.

Nice. Really nice

By Mardi S |

We just wanted a quick, quiet drink before dinner nearby. This is a very pleasant, welcoming little space, with a good variety of seating choices from lounge chairs and low tables, high tops with comfortable stools (so important), and seats at the bar. Service was quick and friendly, and our wine was very good. They have food here, and I think we might be tempted to come back. It was a very pleasant interlude.

Wonderful Wine Bar with Good Food and Service!

By MsTravels100 |

Loved the food and the atmosphere at this wine bar. We ate on the patio and server Ana took great care of us. Sommelier/GM Julia H gave us great advice and made our visit great! Love the attitude and the vibe of the place. We went there before walking over to a show on Broadway, and it was perfect. Like the wine selection and the light menu items. The soup and desserts were superb - highly recommend!

Pre dinner drinks

By Priyen P |

Popped in for an hour before dinner. A good selection of wines and a few ales. The staff are helpful and personal without being overbearing

Nice Atmosphere

By CaptDad42 |

My wife and I stopped in to have some wine and appetizer's with my daughter and son-in-law. The place is small, however, can accommodate a nice number of clientele. We ordered a few bottles of wine, some healthy appetizer's and bread. They were not too filling, which was nice, as it left room for a nice dinner later on. We were able to hold a conversation where we did not have to scream to be heard, nor did we have to strain to listen.

Wine Bar in NYC

By watchyoursix |

What a great place to hang!! Whether you are looking for a place to relax before a show or if you are just getting off work, this place has a good vibe. I think if you are going to call yourself a wine bar, you better have some unique wines. This place certainly delivers. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

I'll have some wine bar

By Stylelust |

When invited to lunch, I thought my hostess had said - All Have Some Wine Bar....so it works perfectly that they have lots of wine. Smart, attentive staff. Pleasant late lunch with great food - especially loved the Charcuterie and the baked cauliflower - and ample wine. Loved the attentive, happy, fun, caring service. They never stop cleaning the glasses and after awhile, you see how many they use. We were late lunching so it was quiet. We could see how it would be a hit for cocktail hour. They appear to close between 3 and 430 or 5 so plan well or the kitchen will be closed. Smart appetizers that are easily shared so I would return with a group. You can see that Le Bernarden is related and so as not to cause a spoiler alert - ask the staff how "I'll have some Wine Bar" got its name.

Best Wine Bar Ever!

By alandmichelle |

Wish all wine bars were this fantastic - comfortable, eye-pleasing decor. Cozy and chic atmosphere. Immensely knowledgable staff. Variety of selection - items you don't often find on wine lists. An opportunity to try unique and sometimes aged bottles at a reasonable price. Excellent food options for snacking. This was our first visit to Aldo Sohm and it will not be our last. This place is not to be missed. We really enjoyed ourselves and our sommelier, Juan, kept us informed and entertained. Hope to see him again soon!

Interesting Wine Bar

By Kelly D |

Been here multiple times, the first time I was a bit disappointed actually, but since coming back (as it is one of the only serious wine bars near Times Square), I've always liked it. First I haven't had the food here, only the wine. Second, some servers are better then others. Third, the wine list has very good representations of the standard grapes/regions of wines, if you are looking for something a bit more of the beaten path, this probably isn't going to be your wine bar. The big bottle pour that starts around 9 pm, is normally pretty good too.

Solid Wine Bar.

By khanna |

In midtown ....right next to Le Bernadine. Great wine list. Several moderately priced options. Tapas style plates. All great.I would recommend the pate and the lamb sausage in a mini pita Good selections of Rhone valley/ CNP wines Other spirits are limited....but this is a wine bar One point deducted however...because the coffee machine was turned off before the closing of the restaurant. Unforgivable!

Warm Professional and Good Wine

By anecessaryevil |

This is a bar that takes wines seriously. We just had some wine and some small bites. The Malbec Flight was interesting. Wines are expensive by the glass, but it's a big open space with vaulted ceilings and sofa seating as well as tables and high tables. Close to all the midtown entertainment.

Thanks to the Concierge at St Regis!

By The_Loup_Garou |

We had an afternoon flight out of EWR, and had already gone through the wine list at the St Regis Hotel. We talked to the Concierge about an early lunch at the Polo Club, but nothing was available. We discussed our desires – an exciting wine list, and something light, and she suggested Aldo Sohm. With a bit more discussion, she found out that they would be opening in a few minutes, and disclosed that Mr. Sohm was the Sommelier at Le Bernardin, where we had just dined, the night before. She hailed the St Regis Bentley, and we were off. We had tried to use the Bentley, the night before, to go to Le Bernardin, but it was caught in traffic, so we took it, to the “wine bar,” the next day. With a “grand entrance,” we entered Aldo Sohm, just as they opened, and found a seat at the empty “communal table,” along the back wall. The room is lovely, though “eclectic” is my best description for the décor. Though just opening, our server was at our side in seconds, and had the wine list into our hands. He asked what we wanted, and my reply was “WINE!” He smiled, and I knew that we were in good hands. As we took in the room, and my wife did her final work, prior to our flight, I ordered a glass each, or the Sohm & Kracher Alte Reben Grüner Veltliner ‘13 (may as well “keep it in the family”) and the Jade & Jasper Fiano Unico Zelo, from South Australia ‘16. Both were served in Zalto stemware – impressive, but I find many of the Zalto stems to be a tad top-heavy, and rather like some of the Riedel lines better – but Zalto IS lovely, and delicate. The place was beginning to fill, but it seemed that most wanted the “livingroom seating” in the main area of the room, rather than our communal table. I ordered a glass each of the Au Bon Climate Santa Barbara County Chardonnay ‘15, and the Paumanok Vineyards Cabernet Franc ‘15 (Long Island), plus a Cheese Plate, from the dining menu. All came quickly, and the Cheese Plate was both great, and also just what we needed – otherwise, we were doing “Cheese & Crackers” at the United Club at EWR, along with the same wines that we have flown with, for the last two years... Service was spot-on, and both friendly, and efficient. Even as the venue filled, our server took the time to talk “wine geek speak” with us. Loads of fun, and our visit was just too short. We had a flight to catch, and had been “on the road, on two continents for three weeks. Time to go. We summoned the Bentley, and were off to the hotel, in time to greet our driver, and head to the airport. In all, a great wine-centric venue, which offers fun, plus a vinous experience. Too bad that we did not delve more deeply into the food, but then, we spent hours dining across the way, at Le Bernardin, the night before. Whether we dine at Le Bernardin, or not, we will return.

Nice wine bar to spend your evening in NY

By Salvador M |

Nice ambient, cozy. Arrived early (5:00) and it was almost full. Staff very friendly and attentive, and they also have a very good knowledge about the wines served.

Chill wine bar

No judgement, just good wine with small bites to match. Waitstaff were all friendly and easygoing. The space has a cool vibe and is a good place to hang out in with friends.

Don't bother

Nice place over priced grapes that daft New Yorkers will pay not the true New York but give it a wide berth, just as nice wine in the local supermarkets

Knowlegeable Staff

By Craig C |

Visiting NYC and stopped in for lunch. Food was outstanding and enjoyed a fight of Gruner Veltliner. Staff was very knowledgable and practical in the presentation/explanation. A great experience. Warm duck confit on arugala was great.

Must stop here when in NYC

By Mark D |

On a recent Memorial Day weekend trip to NYC, Aldo Sohm was recommended by a friend and it exceeded our expectations. The day was rather balmy and the cool, cozy atmosphere was welcoming from when we first entered. The staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting apps and wine. Both of which were outstanding. Our kids, 11 & 14, even commented about how "cool" the place was and they wished we could've stayed longer. I highly recommend that you make Aldo Sohm part of your itinerary the next time you visit NYC or if you already live there. Well done & keep it up!

Very chic Wine Bar

By MaestroTravel |

Loved it ! Warm and smiling welcome. Great service. Exactly what we were looking for to try some lovely wines and have a light snack (saucisson sec, rillettes and coppa are great choices. True french charcuteries) as well before going for diner. Lovely friendly ambiance with knowledgeable and attentive staff. We will be back.

Good wine bar but service is not consistent

By Cruising2by2 |

Great location and atmosphere, a couple blocks away from Rockefeller Center. Small plates and the food is average nothing exceptional, price is normal for NYC small plates. Why I would not rate this higher is the inconsistent service. Also it depends on who you get. Some times you get an appropriate glass filled with wine other times your server will "short change you". So beware.

A highlight for sure.

By Jena M |

Lunch at Aldo Sohm was a must-do in NY. We are fans of his book, Wine Simple, and were anticipating our chance to experience his wine bar. Both the wine and the food were most enjoyable. The menu had a nice selection of wines by the glass and small plates. The experience did not disappoint. Beautiful Wine! Delicious food. Gorgeous atmosphere. They were able to modify dishes to make them gluten-free to accommodate my gluten sensitivity. We had a lovely chat with Aldo - he was very friendly, and engaging it was a pleasure to meet him.

You feel like sitting in someone's (well, someone rich) living room, trying great wines accompanied by creative and well matching "snacks". Patrons include local business people and visitors. Don't expect large dishes or low prices (there is a TGI around the corner) but a great experience and atmosphere. Definitely worth a trip. Try the orange blue cheese.

Disappointed by the lack of inventory

We chose this spot for a glass of wine and a lite dinner after a show based on reviews we had read. It is a short walk from the theatre district and being part of the Le Beradin group we had high expectations. The hostess was pleasant and the server knowledgeable about the wines. The food menu had a good variety of charcuterie, started and mains listed. The ambiance was spot on for what we wanted the night to finish like. The low rating is all related to the words “we don’t have that wine” and the excuse of the “truck did not arrive today”. So, a wine bar that had 3 selections not available and vintages on the menu that had changed. Not what we expected.

One of the best wine bars in NYC.

They always have different wine suggestions. Last time I got the spanish flight and it was wonderful (but this option was not available in my recent visit). Besides the good wine offers, they also have nice appetizers.

Fun

Operated by the sommelier at Le Bernardin this place has a fabulous wine list and lots of small plates -- personally I could take or leave the small plate stuff - but everything is good and it is a comfortable setting. Solid but not great by the blade wine list but world lass wine list overall

Unexpected pleasent surprise

We just noticed the Aldo wine bar while walking in the area and stopped. We had a great lunch, the soups, salad and sandwiched were sofisticate and tasty! The atmosphere was all you want from a NYC wine bar! Excellent place!

Zero Value for $$

I wish I had taken a photo of the $24 cheese plate we ordered. It had 4 teeny tiny itsy bitsy pieces of cheese. The waitress also recommended we share the carrot plate which was not a proper share plate. The bill was $200 for three people and then we left and got a slice of pizza. Pathetic.

Classy spot with excellent wine list

Modern and classy wine bar close to Le Bernadin. Excellent selection of wines from around the world and broad range of prices to choose from. Surprised that it's not more popular but good because we can always get a seat. Service staff are all somms with great recommendations; ask for Juan.

Midtown getaway

Aldo Sohm was a fantastic quiet getaway from the usual in Midtown. The service was excellent and all of the staff were extremely knowledgeable about all of their wines. One of the best charcuterie plates around!

Great food ok wine

By MichelDavidoff |

I was hoping that the food will be as good as the wine, however, the food was excellent while the wines were OK (at best). Every dish we had was excellent, the most tender short rib, great mushroom, excellent carrot. I would come back and have more of these any day any time. The wine list left a loft to be desired, none of the wine we tasted will convince me to buy a bottle.

Great place for lunch...or late nite special wines

By Paul D |

There was a good selection of wines with a flight tasting special. After 9pm, they allow you to try unique, reserve wines. The $25 lunch special was good because they figure out a wine pairing to go with your food choices and the glass of wine is included.

Far exceeded any expectations

We went for a quiet lunch and were so very pleased. The service was impeccable as was the charcuterie and salad. It suited our needs perfectly and was such a respite from the hustle and bustle of mid-town.

Relaxing afternoon lunch

I will admit, after watching Somm I was hoping to meet Aldo himself to pick out a glass of wine for me. I know that was an unrealistic expectation but one can hope. It was a really cozy place to have a glass of wine and sandwich while I was on a short break from my conference. Would love to go back again.

Simple wine bar inside Avenue 6 & 1/2

By graham_international |

Modern wine bar off 6.5 avenue. Reasonable selection of wines by the glass, but not expansive. Food is simple - recommend the three cheese selected by the chef. The Brie was fresh and while the waiter did not know it’s region the likelihood was from melun. ( clearly it was French)

Sophisticated Wine TIme

We visited Aldo Sohm after lunch at Le Bernadin for a glass of wine to digest our experience there. The bar is lovely - dimly lit and full of art and beautiful artefacts. I love the attention to detail on things such as the lights. We had a couple of glasses of wine each which were finely picked as most of the drinks menu is. I am aware you can order food here but we did't as we had already eaten. The wine was delicate - much like the glasses it was served in. The service is also impeccable and our server talked to us for a while and established we had visited the same places in the UK before. It was really pleasant. I would highly recommend Aldo Sohm for a lovely post lunch or dinner drinks - treat yourself!
