Great atmosphere, okay service and decent food

By SimeyTravels |

This team lunch was booked by our New York colleagues. I think it was chosen for its proximity to the office more than anything else, but I also think the team wouldn’t choose a restaurant that they themselves didn’t enjoy. There was a bit of confusion as to the final number in our party (we ended up with 6), and the hostess and our higher-ranking colleague seemed to be in a mutual snit with each other about the setup of the table. It didn’t seem like it should have been that big of a deal; the table was big enough for 8, and they had to adjust from 5 to 6, but apparently there were some snide remarks delivered on both sides, which didn’t help matters much. The hostess was a bit cool to the group when she finally sat us, but seemed to warm up as we sat there (she came by to check on me as I was searching for our waiter to ask about my boss’ entrée, which was set in front of her, then promptly whisked away without comment or explanation. She was able to track down the waiter and the dish and did so with a smile. So I guess she didn’t hold a grudge for the way our colleague might have spoken to her.) Entrees ordered around the table that day varied. I went with their Bolognese pasta and a side of fries (because yummy). My colleagues ordered: the wedge salad and soup of the day; the Moules Frites; the Louis Salad; a Cobb salad; and the street tacos. The street tacos, by the way, were the tiniest version of street tacos you ever did see! But she said they had good flavor, so that kind of made up for the fact that she walked away still puckish. My pasta was good – the sauce was meaty, the noodles were al dente, and the wilted spinach served on top added a nice depth of flavor. The fries were perfectly golden and crispy, and my co-worker and I had no problem clearing out the fry tin. Service was good, despite the blip with my boss’ plate. I did love the feel of the restaurant itself, with the slightly rustic tables and open space. It was a warm and cozy spot to be on a blustery and rainy fall day.

Best brunch ever in New York's Flatiron neighborhood

By Cedar880 |

We came here on Easter Sunday, expecting pandemonium but not at all! Service was excellent, personable, informed and attentive. The menu has many great choices, but almost all of us chose the Almond Hash - made with duck confit, duck crackling, poached eggs and more. A plate so full that I took some of it home. Their little biscuits are delicious - flavorful and flaky. And reasonably priced. Highly recommend and thank you!

duck potato hash

By Rohk19 |

We went for a late saturday brunch and were delighted to be seated immediately despite the place being rather crowded. We ordered the waffles and almond hash and both dishes were fantastic. My one complaint would be the ratio of duck to potatoes in the hash but I suppose that is to be expected. Still, more duck, less potatoes please. Ask for the house made hot sauce (tomatillo salsa verde) as it goes superbly with the hash.

If you don't eat breakfast here...

By Im_Cartwright |

If you don't eat breakfast here, you are a fool. Seriously, don't even look at the menu. Ricotta pancakes...done. A little lemon curd and a seasonal array of upstate berries accompany along with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Don't drown the deliciousness with syrup. Just s little dab will do you. My wife enjoyed her omelette as well. Best she ever had, she proclaimed. Great atmosphere to boot. Go here! Or not...I don't care...my table wait will be less if you don't go.

Yummy Brunch!

Great spot for Sunday brunch. The decor is beautiful, and the food was delicious! Brunch came with delicious mini muffins & fresh apple spread.

Great Dinner

By Maura M |

Had an excellent dinner tonight. Service was very good. I recommend. We both had a pasta with veal dish and it had kale and was delicious.

Nice local restaurant

By Lenfagen |

This restaurant is local for me. The food and service were very good. My wife and I enjoyed our meal. We came at 6:45 and the place was sparsely filled. When we left an hour later the restaurant had filled considerably.

Excellent Bloody Mary and heavenly biscuits

By nylady21 |

The patio is nicely designed with a fence and plants separating the dining area from the sidewalk. The Spicy Bloody Mary was perfectly balanced. We could have eaten another 2 baskets of the light, flaky biscuits but held out to enjoy our entrees. Huevos Rancheros were well prepared and good but not the best I've ever had. The bowl of house Granola was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive.

A Country Experience in the City

By Allan L |

I discovered this restaurant when I worked in the neighborhood and quickly became a regular. The food uses seasonal local farm ingredients and the dishes are creative and always well executed. The prix-fixe menu is a good deal, especially if you rather have a glass of wine or beer instead of dessert as the third course. The servers are knowledgeable, pleasant and warm and the host/manager keeps things moving in the right direction. The original restaurant is located in Bridgehampton and its great to have an this charming offshoot in Gramercy Park!

Wonderful dinner and great atmosphere

This was an exceptional dinner. The bruschetta, the beverages (local brew beers) amazing steak with a dessert that was over the top.

Restaurant week Dinner

By JudyMetroNYCarea |

I always look forward to restaurant week in NYC. It gives me an opportunity to try new places. We selected Almond for the location and menu offering. I arrived early and sat at the bar, and was promptly ignored by the bar staff. They were more concerned with the regular patrons and had little use for a new person. There are tables outside in a small patio area. We chose to sit inside. The dining room is big and a bit noisy. We ended up moving our seats but it didn't help. The food was good. We tried the buffalo cauliflower, soup and salad. The cauliflower was very hot. I couldn't actually finish it. For the entrees we had the ravioli and fish. The raviolis were served in a very messy sauce. They were thin with not a lot of flavor and very average. Dessert was fine. The overall feeling was the decor is nice, the hostesses were nice (but I do find it annoying when managers "instruct" hostess staff in front if patrons - which happened while I was at the bar), the wait staff was friendly, they do have a happy hour, if you can get the bartender to pay attention to you, the food was average. Average at best.

Reasonable and really good French Bistro

By axels93 |

We just had dinner at this lovely restaurant. We started with the black mussels in a white wine sauce and they were really yummy plus dipping in the bread into the sauce was amazing. The macaroni and cheese was decadent and could feed two people at least so next time we would share this amongst the table. The lamb chops were amazing and huge. Frankly all the portions were generous and everything was just very good. The service was great and the overall atmosphere felt like you were in a Paris but they actually liked english speaking patrons. Highly recommend this restaurant if your are in the area.

Great local restaurant

By Gary L |

Found Almond by chance as I was looking for a restaurant close to my hotel on a rainy night. The restaurant was full but I was able to eat at the bar. Great service and great food at reasonable prices for New York.

One of my best meals in Manhattan

By traveldoc00 |

Got together with another couple for dinner. They work at CBS and got recommendations for Almond from co-workers and I am happy they did. From the very moment we walked in, the staff were friendly and humorous. We had to wait for the other couple coming from NJ and the staff made us comfortable and not rushed in the least. They have familiar fare but with interesting and VERY tasty twists. Califlower gratin, chive gnocchi, smoked bluefish; all amazingly prepared. The wait staff were amazing and timed the meal perfectly. Not just was the food hot, they gave us enough time to talk and enjoy ourselves before bringing out the next dish but not waiting too long so that were getting hungry and antsy. We sat and talked after dessert for almost two hours and they did not rush or ignore us and made the entire experience great. It really was one of my best meals in Manhattan and we like to go to the city. We live on Long Island. Only one problem, check your doggy bag. They made a mistake and put of friends food with ours in the bag with my wife's. It is nice how they give you a claim ticket to pick up the bag at the front rather than putting a shopping bag on your table, just check the food. :-) For Manhattan, not expensive but not cheap.

Excellent meal

By Kristine B |

I went with a few girlfriends to catch up. I had the daily special which was tilefish. It was excellent. As was the wine! I highly recommend getting whatever fresh fish they are offering. The chicken was another favorite at our table. We went on a weeknight and what I really love and appreciate is that nobody rushed us. None of the plates were cleared until everyone was finished and we actually were able to catch up, which is extremely rare for a good restaurant in the city. I will be back!

best brunch of our trip

By trainer7765 |

Chose this place due to location being close to our hotel. What a treat. Were there for Sunday brunch. 2 of us had the homemade tamales that were to die for. One friend got the salmon benedict and one got the croque madame. They were all amazing. We felt the prices were just fine too. Would love to try for dinner on a return trip.

Dinner with my brother and his family

By PhiladelphiaPhillip |

Perfect and relaxing dinner with family. Chicken liver pate and escargot for starters, and while both were fantastic, the pate scored an A+. Two of us tried the rack of lamb special over a minted corn salad, and ate every morsel. The char and pappardelle and cauliflower au gratin [with Gruyere nonetheless] were also hits, and then there was dessert. Peach cobbler was delish but peaches weren't totally cooked and a little too al dente for me. The creme brûlée and the date cake were also hits, and the cookies also teriffic. Hadnt been here in years but now I remember why I loved this place so much. And fantastic, unobtrusive service. Bravo.

Love dining Al Fresco!

By COGlobeTrotter45 |

Almond is a great place to dine inside or out - love the cozy decor inside as well. My friend and I had cocktails and dinner there to catch up. For appetizers it was the asparagus and buffalo cauliflower. Both were to die for!! The flavors were amazing. My friend had the striped bass and I went for the steak frites; the steak was outstanding - I would recommend chilling out on the amount of fries however - too many to even try to eat. I also like the beer/wine/cocktail menu and the staff is very knowledgable as well. Great spot!

Great spot for reunion with friends and family

By Eileen T |

This is a casual neighborhood spot with great ambiance, good food and great drinks. The menu had something for everyone (multi-generation) and service was excellent. This was my second time dining at Almond, and won't be the last. Weill be back again on future visits to NY.

New Almond in Tribeca is worth a try

By CTC388 |

Enjoyed a quiet lunch as went early and not crowded mid-week. Lots of interesting options, but we went simple. Had the turkey burger which was nice with great sauces, salad and terrific french fries. Service was friendly and timely. Dessert options looked good, but couldn't fit them in.

Re-train your servers!

By DrSidneyShaw9004 |

Came here on a blind lunch date, we sat outside and then we met the waiter. The food was good, we shared a chilled lobster, escargot, some pasta and a really nice bottle of wine. Like I said no complaints with the food at all, but the waiter had an attitude from the moment we sat down. I don't know, were we not important enough for him? Did he not like the color of my shirt? I just didn't get it. So I said something to him, and then guess what? He then ignored us and had the female busser handle the table. It's truly a shame because the front outside cafe is a wonderful place to enjoy lunch. I believe in second chances so I will return, and if it's different I will write a new review, absolutely.

Excellent Service & Great Food

By faurecia |

It took a lot longer to get us a table even though we had reservations. We were regularly updated and profusely appologized to. We were even asked if we liked seafood and when our table was ready a complimentary appetizer was at our table with another one on the way. Our waiter couldn't have been nicer and our food arrived very quickly. As a group we tried multiple appetizers and each of us got a different entree. Everything was excellent and we were already talking about what we would order next time. Given our wait this could have easily turned into a bad experience but such an effort was put in we couldn't help but love our time there. The star meals of the night would be the mac & cheese and the short ribs but really there was no bad choice.

Always a winner

By slsnyc |

Was here for both lunch and dinner recently and was reminded that Almond should be back in my regular rotation. The menu is the perfect mix of American bistro fair, with some good seafood options thrown in. The wedge salad is a perfect lunch or appetizer. The yellowfin tuna on the dinner menu is amazing. And the sticky toffee date cake is outrageous! Service is good and prices are totally worth it.

All around treat!!!!!!!!!!!

By Allan D |

WOW - This is a fabulous restaurant. We ate early as we had a reservation for 6:15. The waiter recommended some appetizers to share. The special was rack of lamb - ALL 4 of us ordered it and we were not dissapointed. Succulent and jucy, cooked medium rare and large chops. Its a little dark (but i suppose that is lighting for atmosphere. All my dining companions said that they would be back. Very friendly staff and just an all round treat.

Great atmospher, very good food

By Robin J |

We came here for Sunday brunch after deciding not to wait for an hour for Bubby's. It was a good decision. The atmosphere is wonderful - a good mix of families with young children, young, old, couples, groups. Great decor. Very nice hostess and a great waitress who was attentive and made good suggestions. Overall, the meal was perfect. We shared a brussels sprout salad as an appetizer and it was fantastic. I had the duck and potato hash and my daughter had eggs benedict our way -which is eggs benny with salmon. We ate it all and enjoyed it immensely. The only reason to hold back on the 5th star was that I think the food lacked flavor. I had to use a lot of salt to taste my duck and potato hash. Also, I think it should have had more duck - there were just a few bits of it. In spite of this, I highly recommend the hash!! My daughter said the same of her eggs benedict - that it was good, but was a bland. Bloody Mary's were good - spicy the way I like them. Over all, a great restaurant and well worth the visit.

Really pleasant

By Donnchadha R |

Nothing fancy about this place but good food and great service. Had beef short rib to start which was really great. Pasta and a Hanger steak for mains were also really good. Service was exceptional. So friendly and even gave us a little Peanut butter vegan chocolate as a complementary dessert as we were too full. Would definitely recommend.

Good and plesant

By Maurizio S |

Nice atmosphere and service. Menù has a wide selection from pasta to meat going trough salad and fish.

Don't bother

By Carmi69 |

There is so many great places to eat in Gramercy I am not sure how we ended up here. The staff were more interested in gossiping than looking after the 8 people that had made the same mistake we had. Lamb chops as a meal means more than 1 and a half cutlets, how you can make a burger so dry and tasteless is a mystery, the pasta was ok. Had to beg for a beer even....to hard don't bother.

Very Good but Have had Better for Much Less $

By chk2002 |

The meals were good farm-to-table but I would say rank on average or below taste from farm-to-table restaurants outside the city which are priced more reasonably.

Great location, nice atmosphere...

By SJP |

We were recommended this by friends who live in NY. Excellent location, v near the Flat Iron building in Chelsea. I chose the shrimp cocktail which to be fair was only 5 shrimps (no salad), so very minimal. However my husband had the turkey burger and chips which he said was delicious. Great place for lunch.

Great Sunda Brunch

By Kim S |

So many choices that I can't wait to visit again. Great staff, happy and professional. Reservation was honored and everything just worked perfectly.

won't dissapoint

By A H |

One of my favorite places to eat in the city. There is such a great selection on the menu that I have a hard time choosing just one dish. But no matter what you get, you won't be disappointed! The atmosphere is romantic and cozy. Great place for a group of people or for a date night.

Relaxed evening

By Rajesh Padmanabhan |

Nice and cool place. Had a great meal and we were a team of 10. Loved the wines and cocktails to start with. Exceptional starters. I tried spaghetti and lobster. Well made and blended well with wine. Good dessert options and i tried the pistachio sandwich ice cream. Had a terrific evening well served and cared by the team at Almond.

Walk in.

By Baba |

Nice cozy place with ample space and a long relaxing bar. Staff very friendly. Oysters are worth trying for sure. Ambiance is somewhat average but the feeling of the rest is very positive. Has a small seating outside. Great value for money.

Flatiron Staple

By AJAX6965 |

Almond has been around for a while. We had Saturday lunch/brunch. The place was a full but not noisy. The steak and eggs were good. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and the wedge salad very good. Very pleasant service and the waitress managed to get us three chocolate chip cookies instead of the cookie plate. A pleasant experience.

Awesome!

By jujuclimac |

It’s not more perfect because Gets closed early! Food: perfect; wine: wonderfull; Music: espetacular; Waiter: can’t be better !

Unexpected gem!

By mikeylovestotravel |

Really enjoyed this farm-to-table experience in NYC over the holidays. Excellent menu and flavoring in our chosen selections (scallops & smoked duck, cavatelli with veal sausage). Great NY vibe and ambience as well!

Cool atmosphere, great food

By MaryL3 |

We arrived at 6:30 on a random Wednesday night to a full bar but only partially full restaurant. We had reservations and as soon as we were seated our awesome waiter was there with water and menus. The atmosphere was lively but not so loud that we couldn’t have a conversation. The menu is quite varied, with many different tapas style plates and large entrees. We opted to share several small plates, and all were very good. The short ribs were a standout, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We also had Brussel sprouts, scallop & fennel crude, a flatbread, and dessert. Cocktails were well mixed but a little pricey even by NYC standards. Service was attentive but not intrusive. All in all, a very nice experience. We’ll go again.

Brilliant spot to celebrate anything!

By marimaldona |

This is such a happy spot. I cant remember the last time we had such nice waiters in NYC! I had booked a table for four explaining it was our daughter’s birthday and requesting a simple candle on desert at the end...well they ushered us in to our table and immediately brought 4 glasses of prosecco on the house to “get the party going” Later they also brought yummy, creamy-tangy deviled eggs on the house. We ordered oysters, a variety from the northwest and northeast all amazingly fresh...we also had the most beautuifully served and perfectly cooked platter of rib-eye steak we have had anywhere before. There were tender roasted brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, arancini which came with tomato soup, and finally a to-die-for Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce all lit up with a fire-cracker candle which took things up a notch... What a Fall menu, what an evening, what a perfect spot for a celebration; This is what one goes out to dinner for... what a joy!!! Can’t wait til our next visit!

Perfect find in the Flatiron District

By Sarah J |

Great find on our trip to the Flatiron District . We visited twice during our trip and on both occasions the service & standard were excellent. My son was especially made up with the chips. We sampled the lunch menu and the excellent range of beers. Our waitress was full of knowledge regarding the beers and came over with some samples to help us with our choice...nice touch. Definitely recommend the Almond.

Feel like home

By Clecio L |

Just love this place, great service, lovely food. Excellent price (for NYC) Also you shold try Almond in the Hamptons

Fun brunch with friends

By CousteauMunson |

We met several friends for brunch and had a great time. Their menu has enough choices whether for sweet or savory. The bloody marys can be ordered with an extra kick of spice and were tasty. The only reason I didn't rate them a five is because the service was a bit slow. While I am one for enjoying a nice meal a casual pace, they missed the boat on keeping up with the flow of drinks. We had to ask several times for refills. I wouldn't have been bothered so much except that the initial server made a snide remark that the first 3 people only ordered water and coffee (we don't drink). The remainder of the table would have been happy with additional drinks. That being said, when the food came out, it was served to the correct person and by a pleasant server. Would definitely recommend and return.

Best biscuits ever!

By AAEN |

Had a family brunch here. A beautiful space with top notch service. The biscuit basket that was brought for the table was heaven on earth! We all had egg dishes and everyone enjoyed their meals. Of particular note the potatoes and toast served with the egg dishes were all very tasty. Good value for price.

Almond - a Charming Option for a Great Dinner Out

By sdgoodwin |

I have been to Almond several times now...I have a particular fondness for the Steak Frites but everything is good! The toffee dessert is to die for. The staff is consistently very good and prices are reasonable. A very good option for dinner out!

Neighborhood favorite - never disappoints

By jennylynn |

This is our "go to" restaurant for lunch, brunch and dinner. Food is awesome and the staff is very nice. Sitting outside in the nice weather is an added plus. My favorite dishes are the roast chicken, pork Milanese, short ribs and escargot (very rich, but so yummy). Raw bar is great too. Bar is usually pretty crowded and can get a bit loud, but overall atmosphere is very nice. Highly recommend.

Neat space with a GREAT Happy Hour

By tms215 |

This is the perfect spot for drinks before dinner. It is welcoming from the tiled walls to the friendly Staff. It has a couple of bars where you can sit alone or with a couple of friends. The Happy Hour is reasonably priced and the pours are generous. You can tell a bar from the ice. This place has those giant round cubes that fits one to a whiskey glass…The tapas are good, not great, and very small portions. That being said, if you are alone or meeting your special someone? This is comfortable and memorable. You can tell there are many regulars in this local hangout

Pricey but delicious Sunday brunch

By yycsullivan |

We stopped in for Sunday Father's Day brunch. The patio is small and was full but the doors were wide open and the ambiance in the dining room is warm and comfortable. The brunch menu is extensive with some innovative items. My husband had the duck eggs benedict, and loved it. I ordered the eggs benedict with their house-cured smoked salmon. Light but filling, and the salmon was the right kind of salty. Our son had the nutella waffles which, judging by his face afterwards, was delicious. We ordered a side of Canadian bacon, which was a huge serving. I don't think we finished it. The mimosas were classic. Nothing to write home about, but tasty. The lattes were hot but a bit more like cappuccinos. I'm not a huge froth fan. Service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly to all the children. I especially appreciated the gender-inclusive restrooms and the Pride flag honouring the victims of Orlando. Recommend you arrive before 10AM if you want to sit at the patio, and before 11AM if you want your choice of tables in the dining room.

Good steaks

By martynsnook |

First time here for a dinner. Has the feel of a French bistro crossed with steakhouse. Nice atmosphere. Was busy. I had the streak and friends had the veal special. Everything was great. They offer substitutions such as salad for fries. Good neighborhood place

Unexpected combinations in amazing ways!

By travelreimagined_jen |

Had a great work lunch here! The space is really cool, open and industrial looking with a very large outdoor patio. We ate inside and everything on the menu looked tasty, and actually tasted even better! It was almost like some of the pairs or preparations were a bit unfamiliar to me on paper, but their taste was amazing when eaten! I especially recommend the argula salad and the brussel sprouts ceaser salad.

Special birthday celebration

By PhiladelphiaPhillip |

Met at Almond for a special start to a special birthday weekend. Been here three or four times and we once again weren’t disappointed. Highlights of the meal were the the chicken liver pate, the pear and endive and blue cheese salad, the hanger steak with frites, and the short rib was melt in your mouth delicious. We shared a toffee and date cake with ice cream that was dessert perfection. Have made this one of my favorite places in NYC.

Relaxing family meal

By Colin M |

Great restaurant very chilled relaxed atmosphere. Played some great music too, 4 songs in a row from albums I have: Gin Blossoms, Matchbox 20, Counting Crows and Hootie and the Blowfish. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious I had the home made cavatelli and sticky toffee date cake and the family all enjoyed their choices. Great pint of Finback IPA too. Joseph who served us was friendly, polite and very approachable, a credit to the restaurant. Will definitely visit again when back in NYC.

Variety on menu

By Mary949 |

Reservation was made by a relative that ended up unable to come but we went anyway. They had a varied menu and being gluten and dairy free I was easily able to find a great meal. I would eat there next time I'm in NY. Good food and not outrageously priced.

Lively and Excellent Brunch

By DCRYork |

Almond is a lively spot where the brunch hours are bustling with diners. The food was excellent on this visit, even the charming buttermilk biscuits that are brought to the table. I had the Eggs Benedict with mixed greens, my dining companions had the Eggs Benedict with salmon and the Croque-Monsieur. My eggs were perfectly cooked and the English muffin was properly toasted. (Often the muffin is under toasted to get the meal out of the kitchen.) The Spicy Bloody Mary was good too. No one rushed us even though the place was full. There was a slight delay with our food, but the waiter came over twice to let us know the status of our meal. Clearly, a neighborhood place as there were many families dining.

Nice experience

By R&DAshland |

We had a business event/dinner for 50 people in their back room. The food was very tasty, the servers were excellent, and the fact that we could be separated from the main restaurant was very good, but it was a bit noisy. A nice dining experience though.

Good overall restaurant

By Lana J |

I was nervous to eat here as I usually don’t enjoy French cuisine. I was relieved to see there were plenty of non French options. My table had the baked halibut and hangar steak, both of which were delicious. The drinks were good and they were very attentive to my milk intolerance.

A great place to eat and affordable for NYC

By Steve R |

This is a great place to eat farm to market eats in NYC and very affordable compared to most places in the city given the quality of the food and atmosphere. The escargot were very good, and the grilled arctic char was some of the best fish i had ever eaten - tasty grilled fish (i believe cooked in the wood oven), presentation great, pairings with rice and salad were wonderful. Great affordable wines.

OMG, the mussels!

By Deids |

Had a wonderful time at Almond. Food was terrific and the mussels were to die for. Amazing sauce. Ate at the bar, met Eric the owner, and some new friends. Great time, not too loud but fun! Great wait staff.

Terrific!

By Bob L |

We all ordered off the Prix Fixe dinner menu which seemed to be a good value since we knew we would be interested in dessert. Food was outstanding. Enjoyed the Pea Soup, Swordfish, and sticky toffee date cake. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Lively and busy atmosphere, good service. Would certainly recommend and return.

Restaurant Week Favorite

By NJBelle1 |

We went during restaurant week and had the set dinner - really excellent! Sprouts two ways as starter, swordfish was delicious as the main course, and followed by a decadent sticky toffee/date pudding - yum! A little above my price range normally but for restaurant week it was very reasonable. Definitely recommend it!

Classy yet casual and yummy!

By Cathy W |

Had brunch with my family on Sunday and was very pleased. The dining room is large he feels warm and cozy. All of our meals were delicious. Brunch entrees ranged from $18-$24 —— typical NYC prices. Had some unique options like Chicken sausage and eggs which my husband and son loved. Give it a try. Definitely make a reservation.

Fantastic Service & great food

By kt84 |

Booked the restaurant after finding it on trip advisor, the food was excellent, reasonably priced and the staff were fantastic! It catered for all, business groups, families and friends. Its in a great location with plenty of bars within minutes walks!

Best Brunch Spot in New York

By Tulchy |

Best brunch place in Manhattan. We come here every week. The almond hash is to die for. The pan cakes are REALLY good too. 😋😋😋

This is the place for brunch!

By TravelingPatrickNYC |

My brother and niece were in town, so we headed to Almond for brunch, and had a lovely meal. The bloody Mary’s were great, the salmon Benedict did not disappoint, and the tuna on the salad Nicoise was perfect.

More biscuits please.

By Maribeth14 |

Delicious brunch food. Love the biscuits. Nice atmosphere for conversation, usually easy to get a table at non-prime time.

Decent brunch

By LeslieTeng |

Came here on Saturday morning for a double date. The decor is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is very friendly. I requested a hot chocolate (which wasn't on the menu, but they kindly made for me anyway). The froth on top was the most decorative and pretty decoration I've seen on hot chocolate. I got the Croque Madame, which came in a sizzling pan. The bread is good and the poached egg oozes perfectly. The cheese in the Croque is a bit overpowering. He got the brioche French toast, and said it was good. Food comes with complimentary warm mini-biscuits, which tasted extra good because I was hungry. Overall, the food is very decent, although I've had better for equal or lower price.

Great lunch place with great selections

By Dalgal2 |

Just happened upon this place walking in Manhattan....great place for a quick bite varying from burgers to salads to sandwiches and larger entrees. Service was quick.Staff was professional and attentive. Husband had mussels and fries and I had a chilled avocado soup which hit the spot on a hot July day. Would definitely eat there again.

Enjoyable and Delicous

By Ixthus72005 |

We enjoyed such a wonderful dining experience at The Almond restaurant in NYC's Flatiron District. From the moment you pull back the heavy velveteen curtain and enter The Almond you are greeted by a fun, casual, yet respectful and inviting atmosphere. The crowd is lively, young, and clearly enjoying themselves. The staff is very friendly, and efficient, attentive yet not overbearing. The most important part of any dining experience is the food and in this regard The Almond excels. I delighted in my Buratta appetizer and the Striped Bass might have been the best I've eaten. The food is fresh, creative, and most of all delicious. The three of us had appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages for around $200, an excellent value in New York City.

Love my

By Lauren B |

Love Almond! I live right by the restaurant and find myself eating here far too often. The brussel sprouts two ways caesar salad is my favorite brussel sprout dish in the city-- flash fried brussel sprouts over raw shaved brussel sprouts with housemade dressing. Everything here is truly delicious though and you really can't go wrong. Great vibe!

Okay, but not great

By Grandma123456 |

The food was okay, but not great. The place was crowded and noisy and not conducive to conversation.

Very good

By Miron L |

Food was very good quality, not exceptional, but very good. Service - we had a Travel Zoo deal and asked if we could make some changes, and the answer was always yes as long as price was not higher. Overall, very good.

Excellent and good value

By Louise V |

came across this by chance and was drawn in by the outdoor seating which is lacking in NYC. Excellent 2 course lunch available including wine or beer for $25. Food and service was excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent for brunch

By jmedeiros89 |

Been here twice but this visit was more special as it was part of planned birthday weekend for my wife. I've enjoyed both visits but want to give a special thank you to the staff that was on hand July 30th. I had the chorizo omelette and recommend it.

Good restaurant

Good restaurant, had the blt sandwich and it was nice but apart from that, there is nothing else to shout about.

Decent Meal Very Expensive and loud

By Erosion |

Had dinner for four. Food was all very good. Nicely prepared and some interesting selections. My problem is value for $$. Way too expensive and quite loud. We have also been there for brunch on weekend several times and the same holds true. Very good food interesting brunch menu but again way too expensive and loud. A good spot if you are in a crunch o find a spot.

A safe option in Gramercy Park

By JCFC_LX |

Gramercy Park is an area where there is a very good amount of choices for eaters and drinkers. Almond is a combination of both. Well located and with a good décor,it provides a very good service. Food is well proportional and tasty, as well as with good presentation. Service is also very good. Prices are average. Overall, a very good place and a safe choice when within Gramercy Park.

Over priced Could not believe the bill when I got it Was very taken back by a local place being so over priced for what it was

Good meal, good prices.

Enjoyed dinner at this restaurant last weekend. Was very tasty, prices were very fair. Good atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

Good food, friendly staff, sometimes noisy - but in a lively way. I do like their Cavatelli and huge variety of fries.

Great Event Space and Sophisticated Food

By Angelina D |

Just had two private business dinners at Almond this week. We have had other events there in the previous months and to date Almond offers amazing food and service! The customer service is wonderful and they definitely put customers first. What’s amazing on the menu...everything! The drinks, Sullivan Chicken, Shaved Brussel Sprout Caesar Salad, Short Ribs and how can I forget the Mac and Cheese! Everything worked out great for our business dinners. Thanks, Almond!

Love it, every time!

By Sophie G |

Have dined there many times, but had not recently for some reason. The food is consistently excellent, year after year. I had the oysters, which were very fresh, but very small :-( and a delicious scallop and fennel crudo. My partner had the roasted beets which were wonderfully made and the tile fish equally delicious, Just Go!!!

Pretty French Bistro in Grammercy

By ajefferson2015 |

My friend and I met here for dinner at 6pm on a Friday night. The restaurant was almost empty this early and we had some very persistent servers. Throughout the evening we had 5 or 6 different people wait on us. This made the experience somewhat confusing. I had a tasty mussels appetizer and the table bread was delicious. They had a fun cocktail menu. My hanger steak frites was a disappointment because the steak had a lot of gristle for the price.I brought part of it home but ended up throwing it out. We laughed at the expensive dessert cookie plate we ordered- the shortbread was excellent but the chocolate chip cookies had too much flour and were flat. I would probably go back here because the ambiance was so nice and see if it is a bit better next time. Not bad, but not outstanding.

We had a business lunch here and went for the set menu. The pumpkin soup was very thick and the seeds were very chewy The main which was skate wing was ok, but not to be remembered Ok location

The best food I had in NYC.

By Ray J |

We were recommended to go here by our barman in the hotel. It's really close to the Flatiron building( why is this iconic building not lit at night?) We had seared tuna and a New York strip. Good sized portions , well cooked and presented. The serving staff were exemplary, Lee, manager or owner not sure which was in evidence around the restaurant. Good wine list. Excellent night out not far from the city centre, worth the trip as few tourists bother.

Classic NYC brunch spot

By Nora M |

I’ve been to the flatiron location several times for brunch or lunch. It is fantastic for groups, both large and small. I actually even went for business lunch (the location was ideal) and it wasn’t too crowded and the service was speedy! Overall, the atmosphere is energized and welcoming – the place is usually pretty full! That being said, we always have a reservation and have only had to wait once for our table to be ready. They have a wonderful menu, definitely not boring! There are classic brunch dishes but they spice it up with fun twists. The prices are pretty standard. I highly recommend the Almond Hash (my favorite) and Mac and Cheese (my husband’s favorite). We will undoubtedly be back again!

Meh

Met husband to have dinner here. Dark and soulless. Vodka pour was miserly. Bartender attention lacking. Decided not to stay.

Oh Yummy and Reasonably Priced!

By bostonqueen |

We had reservations for 7 and ended up with 9 and a baby. They sat us right away and got us a high chair. The wait staff was friendly and right there when needed. The Bloody Marys were a little too spicy for me but the Mimosas were excellent and the coffee was good. I had eggs benedict tamale. I was a little nervous because I wanted something tasty. Well, surprise! It was excellent. The eggs done just right and the tamale part was so tasty! My mouth is watering right now. We had a relaxed pleasant brunch, visited and never felt rushed. I keep thinking, am I in NYC? Don't miss this place. Good food. Good prices.

Really good service

By slattmun |

We dined here after wandering about the area for a while looking for somewhere not too busy or loud where we didn't have to wait to get a table. Almond is a very pretty restaurant with attentive staff. We both had the chicken special and couldn't have eaten anything else. Generous and tasty food. It's not the most incredible meal you will have in NYC but very pleasant and the three qualities that led to us going there in the first place make it a great choice.

Excellent Experience; Good Food; Good Service

By #EnjoyingRetirement |

We recently spent 5 days in New York City eating at many different restaurants, hands down this restaurant had the friendliest servers and hostesses of them all. We made our reservation at Open Table a couple weeks before time. They did not follow up to confirm but I called ahead a day before and left a message to say we were confirming our Friday evening reservation. We arrived at the restaurant and were warmly greeted by the hostess at the hostess stand. She did well to utilize my name as she took us to our table, and found some commonality for pleasant conversation as she took us to our table. Our server Kristina immediately greeted us at our table and offered beverage service, we ordered a glass of wine and she brought ice water. The restaurant offers a Happy Hour of special pricing of drinks and small plates but that is only offered at the bar. No problem, on this occasion we preferred to sit at a table. Kristina was very knowledgeable about the menu and very hospitable. Bread service was a very crusty french baguette with soft butter. Good quality bread. We ordered and food was served in a timely manner. Food quality was outstanding, I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts salad posing as a Caesar Salad. It was awesome. My NY Strip steak was cooked to a perfect MR and accompanied with fresh cut French Fries. My wife enjoyed her fish entree. Food quality was perfect, nicely seasoned and served at proper temperature. Kristina did well with her service, checking on satisfaction and did well to suggest dessert which we had to pass on. Management should commend Kristina for her excellent service and making this experience positively memorable. A great experience we highly recommend Almond for a nice dinner experience.

Great stop for a refreshing drink!

By AnnaMaris |

My friend and I popped into Almond and sat at the bar for a glass of refreshing sparkling rose in the midst of a busy afternoon in the city; the bartender was friendly, the rose was crisp and cooled perfectly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely recommend Almond for a cocktail!

We went here for brunch based on good reviews yesterday, we got there at 1230pm and we got our drinks and food 40 minutes later, the food were not good at all, we could get better food at a local diner! On top of that it was quite expensive! It was 90 degree weather and they did not have the AC on and they played very loud music which was super irritating. My advise- Go somewhere else, there are many good brunch places in the city!

Good food, good service

By Omega Explorer |

I had dinner with old high school friends on a brief stopover in New York. My friends suggested this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The ambiance was nice and the acoustics were good to carry conversations even if the restaurant was full. We had two bottles of wine, the sea food platter appetizer and our individual orders. I had the pork chop which was delicious.

Christmas Eve Brunch with Finicky Family was Perfect!

By Brenda B |

We chose this restaurant since we had a ton of “requests” for brunch including child friendly, gluten free options, vegetarian options, healthy options and alcohol. Almond exceeded our expectations and we cannot wait to go back! Not only was the food fabulous, the wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. This restaurant even has a little sitting by area with a pool table, which way a great gathering space! I recommend the pancakes, but everyone really enjoyed their meal

Scrumptious Brunch

By soomac |

I have eaten brunch at Almond several times (including yesterday) but never reviewed it before. It is a convenient place for my husband and I (who live on the UES) to meet with family coming from Brooklyn. The brunch menu is varied with several good vegan options. Our party of four ordered the ricotta and lemon pancakes, eggs benedict and challah french toast and everyone was happy. Portions are generous, the food is freshly prepared and the staff is solicitous and pleasant without being fussy. Almond is a large restaurant and when crowded, you can feel a bit "close" to the neighboring tables, but that feels like "atmosphere" and we have never asked to be moved. There is also an adequate wine list, some NYC craft beers and interesting cocktails to choose from as well as delicious fresh squeezed orange juice. For NYC, the cost is reasonable and you do not leave feeling hungry - depending on what we've ordered and if it will travel well - we often take home doggie bags.

Almond restaurant, New York

By theresaxoconnell |

Really lovely place. Great for dinner or a cozy, casual drink. We started with the buffalo style cauliflower. Yum! Vegan but tasted like chicken wings. So good. A variety of the entrees were then ordered. All were absolutely delicious. Reasonably priced. We will be back

Good family brunch restaurant

By Goingplaces64 |

Lots of families here on Sunday brunch. Menu options for all diets even include healthy baby food! While eggs Benedict were so so, the bacon was crispy and grease free. The Brioche French toast was crispy and thick. Wasn't wild about the grape sauce, but the toast made it worth it. The little biscuits at the beginning of the meal were a delicious amuse bouche. Would like to try their dinner menu. Excellent service.

Small portions, bland food, and easily forgotten...

By Skibum1971 |

In town for the weekend for a Mets game and a close friend had recommended Almond, but warned it's been a while so don't him to it. What a difference time makes I guess. Saturday night, group of 4, made reservations and the place was pretty empty. maybe 5 other tables full at 9pm. I got the goat cheese and artichoke ravioli. It was bland and very small portions. My wife got the cavatelli and it was bland and small serving size and very small cavatelli's. I forget what our friends got but no one was all that happy with anything other than the fresh corn they had which was great. If the place was called Corn it may have set different expectations! I won't go back. Nothing to remember...

Fresh & Fabulous Meal

By bonzarob |

We tried Almond as part of Restaurant Week - a great chance to sample different places at a reduced price. Well worth the trip in a beautiful setting. Service was top-notch, helping us decide which meal options were best based on our questions and making sure everything was as we wanted it. Kept the glasses full and corrected a mistake they made before we even realized it. Those are all additional reasons to enjoy Almond - the food was fresh and fabulous and certainly French inspired. We all tried something different and each meal was equally wonderful. The ingredients were fresh - they state many locally sourced. The flavors were right on, ranging from the gazpacho to mussels to pasta to lamb burger. Everyone at our table raved about their plated items. Prices (original) were appropriate for NYC nice establishments and this is a place we would certainly come back to in the future. While it might be considered fine dining, it really is casual in its feel and great for lunch or dinner!

Fabulous steak lunch

By tsogier |

I ate here on my own a few days ago on my last day in New York. I was greeted by welcoming staff and chose to sit up at the bar where the friendly bar staff took care of me. I chose to order the steak au poivre but decided to replace the fries with mac n cheese. This was such a tasty meal, steak was cooked perfectly and the accompanying sauce and side were incredibly tasty. The selection of drinks were great, I started with a lovely Bloody Mary than the staff helped me select a glass of wine making a great recommendation after I mentioned the wines I normally like. You can't call the food cheap but I wasn't looking for a cheap meal, I wanted a good meal and that's what I got. Excellent value considering the quality of food and the location. Couldn't have asked for more!

Hot Sunday for Brunch!

By NancyinDerby |

Our group of 7 had a reservation for brunch on a Sunday when New York City was experiencing a record hot temperature. The staff at Almond was trying to make the most out of some difficulty with their AC keeping things cool. There were many fans throughout the restaurant. They offered all of us icy towels. Since we had eaten here before, we knew the food and service was good, and it was again. I was impressed at how accomodating they were even offering us some tasty complimentary sweets for dessert. There were no complaints from anyone about the temperature in the restaurant. Thanks, Almond staff!

Excellent brunch.

By schmutaki |

We had a great meal here and our server, Ned, was wonderful. Nice space that was busy but not cramped or noisy. The duck hash and lemon ricotta pancakes were both excellent. Highly recommended!

cake & coffee

By skycruzzer |

the coffee was not worth it and the date cake was ok but not home made as told ! this place has a good decor but too pricy for the quality i would say ! we didn't eat there though ! the roasted almonds you get at exit are delicious and a good move

Awesome Date Spot

By Robert Woodhouse |

My girlfriend and I had Friday evening reservations here on March 4th. We originally had them for 7:30, but we both got out of work earlier and were available at 6:30 - we knew this place was busy but we figured it couldn't hurt to ask. The front desk was 100% accommodating and put us in a great table right by the front windows. The service was excellent and attentive - our waiters never bothered us during conversation and were quick to answer any food questions. The food - AWESOME. We had the escargo and the charcuterie as appetizers. My girlfriend did the duck as an entree and I went for a ham croquette. I would 100% recommend this place again!

Christmas Eve dinner was outstanding

By grotshops |

We dined on Christmas Eve and had a great experience here. Our waiter was friendly and efficient, and the food was very good. One of our party had the roast suckling pig, which is a traditional holiday menu item here. It, as well as the other entrees, was quite good. The restaurant is attractive and comfortable. We would dine here again.

Dine with wine

By Mr. Fabulous |

I wanted somewhere quiet for a glass of wine, I arrived before the after work crowd so it was good. Happy hour 3-7. I had couple glasses of wine, fries, oysters, escargot and then a friend joined, my favorite was the dessert. The service was good, prices good and the food was excellent. I would dine here again.

Nice place - poor food and service

By keyds |

First time in July : Steak frites - meat wasn't fresh at all... for both dishes but the service was good Second time : croque madame, worst dish ever, I barely ate and was very sick on my way home. The recipe is gross and not like Croques Monsieur/Madame. The service was very poor and they trow people out ... they have 4 stars - I don't understand maybe for the terrace

Great food

By Alister C |

I've had one of the best meals here since being in New York. It has a quiet and relaxed atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and efficient. Lots on offer for vegetarians and pescatarians. I had the brussel sprout niciose - sounds weird I know but was utterly delicious. I will be going back!

Great wine and appetizer; mains a little letdown

By P B |

What an exciting place Almond is. It's got a smallish menu and a similar wine list but there are great options to be had. You could just order a set of appetizers (phenomenal flat bread, cauliflower, cheese plate) and almost skip the mains. I didn't and ordered the Moroccan lamb, which was a little too salty and hence my four rather than five stars. The wine list though short has some good options. Get the amarone which, at just over $60, is a real steal. The service is excellent.

Great on every level

By KBBostonBoston |

A very pretty restaurant with friendly host and top notch waiters. We ordered a brunch on a Saturday, and the food was delicious and the service good. Would recommend this hands down to anyone in the area. We went at about 12:30 and some people were waiting, and they made a party of two wait just before us but we were seated immediately and there were many empty tables. Don't think anyone had to wait long ( as I doubt they were all reserved). But they do take reservations if you know you're going to be there ahead of time.

A Perfect Dining Experience

By Stays By Sudha |

We ( 2 couples) dined here last week and had phenomenal food and service. The moment we sat down, we were offered complementary bed and French butter. We ordered mussels as a starter which were very good, but the outstanding dishes were the striped bass and the scallop entrees. The red wine was good value, and we were impressed with the fair wine prices. The waiter was always at hand without being intrusive, and the vibe was great without being overbearing. We used to live in the East Village, where the noise level in hip restaurants, had surpassed my tolerance! It was so pleasant to dine comfortably at Almond, with attentive service, in a casual classy atmosphere, and have great food. We all agreed that this was a perfect dining experience!

A perfect brunch spot

A group of six women of varying ages enjoyed a delightful brunch in this warm and charming restaurant. The wait staff was friendly, the food delicious and the noise level was remarkable bearable. We all enjoyed ourselves. I look forward to returning in the near future!

Extra charge on card days after visit!

By Natasha S |

I visited this restaurant and 10/4. I paid by card and the charge posted to my account. Today I went to check my account and there is another charge from this restaurant. I called the restaurant and the first woman I spoke to was great. I wish I got her name but she was excellent. She offered to let me speak to the manager so I said sure, I just wanted to make sure they could see the incorrect charge on their end and confirm that they were going to fix it, which was something the nice woman was understandably not able to do. I was connected to the manager who stated his name was Bismark but I am sure that is a lie because he lied about everything else. On top of that he was very rude and disrespectful and acted like I was bothering him. Dude, you have my money. You charged my account a second time days after I had been there. I don't even live in NYC, I was out there for the weekend of the 4th and haven't been there since. I asked for contact information for the owner because I was really upset about how he was talking to me and he gave me a fake email address and hung up on me several times. I will NEVER come here again and I will warn everyone to stay away. I can't wait until my card is straightened out so that I never have to deal with Bismark ever again. What a horrible manager. I've never left a bad review for anything before but sadly, I feel like I have to do this to make sure that this matter gets handled and I get my money back.

Sunday Brunch

By Dee H |

This was my second visit to Almond... my first time was superb, this time I wasn’t very impressed. We had an 11:00 am reservation and were seated right away. My husband ordered just eggs and an English muffin and for some reason it was served with Lox, which was an upcharge. We would have sent it back but my son in law wound up eating them. My eggs Benedict were mediocre at best... the bacon was fatty and the bread was rock hard. So my biggest complaint was the horrible wait service we had. After our food came... we never saw our waiter again, other than seeing him chatting it up with the other servers in the back. After our plates had been cleared for 20 mins, we had to ask for your check. Mind you, they had a Lobby full of people waiting to be seated. I was pretty disappointed overall 😏

Disappointing food, nice atmosphere and service

By MisterQuest |

Invited by friends we came to this restaurant for dinner. Nice from outside and also warm atmosphere inside. Unfortunately food was very disappointing. The four of us didn't enjoy one single dish, everything was really disappointing, also the local specialty Buffalo Cauliflower was far too spicy. A couple of fish courses had bad smell, ingredients were not fresh. Dessert was not exciting either. So we all wished we had gone somewhere else...

Great spot for casual dinner with friends/for business!

By Adrian F |

Visited Almond with a group of 7 friends. First thing to note, our table was actually ready at our reserved time, which is always a plus. In fact, we had a last minute addition to our group, and the staff quickly shifted seating around without any issue. Quick note- front of restaurant opens to outside (and has outdoor seating), so great when the weather outside is nice. The staff on the whole was very good, but our waitress was particularly great. She guided us through the menu with great recommendations, and always knew when to replenish the wine. The Food: We ordered a number of appetizers (oysters, octopus, buffalo cauliflower, cheese plate) all very good. I had the lamb chops, others orders the spaghetti w/ lobster and scallops. Personally, I thought the lamb chops were the best (after getting a taste of the other dishes). I would definitely return and recommend Almond for dinner.

Amazing food and great wines

By fedrighini |

I am a big fun of Almond.. Everything here is outstanding, the atmosphere is amazing.. Their food is ravaging good. I had the lamb, and the steak on my second visit. Amazing I drank la Tordera prosecco, which being Italian I know is top of the line, and they have Pinot noir lyric, my favorite.. Service is outstanding, the bartender Gaetano was very helpful and always with a smile.. More dinner to come... Thanks

Pretty average meal

By JimF342 |

Had a business dinner midweek with a medium-sized business group. Nothing memorable at all about the meal. Really average starters, entrees and desserts. No one seemed to notice or comment about the food. Almond made little impression on anyone in our group.

HIDDEN GEM

By ssbelltx |

I was not expecting to enjoy myself as much as I did. The brussel sprout salad is a don't miss. They were carmelized perfectly and played well with the ceasar dressing. I had the Steak Frites (OMG the fries) and my friend had the roast chicken (huge serving) and was delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. High quality food at a reasonable price! The manager even treated us to smoked salmon crostini and home made oreos!

Neighborhood Gem

By prekteacher1214 |

Almond is a lovely restaurant with outstanding food. We had the prix fixe menu which included a delicious beet salad or Brussel sprout salad. All of us chose the swordfish entree which was a nice sized portion, flavorful, and accompanied by a delicious medley of vegetables and pork belly. Service was excellent as well. Somewhat pricey but worth it!

Fresh Seasonal Ingredients

By KarenH302 |

This was an amazing meal from start to finish. The ingredients were fresh and seasonal and not your every day ingredients, like fiddleheads and rainbow carrots. Everything was cooked to perfection. At first it seemed a little pricey, but you are in New York and the quality was definitely worth it.

Average food with an average service and an expensive check

By Ldaffmin |

Went there with my girlfriend for brunch. Asked for some orange juice, and asked if it was fresh. They said yes, turns out it was the complete opposite. I also booked through open table and the restaurant did not check me in. The receptionist who seated me, after the brunch asked me if I’d actually had lunch there... Overall experience was a worse, un-original version of The Smith. Will not be back.

Great quick snack

By Dugajlo |

The last stop of exploring the city for the day was the flatiron building. As we were hungry we had to find something to eat. You have to trust google and we ate at this restaurant. The waitress was kind, tmy girlfriend was hungry, the food came quickly and it was delicious. Everything you need to eat quickly.

Seemingly all the right elements ...

By Anne C |

... yet soooooo disappointing. Seasonal. Local. Artisanal. American bistro. Market driven. Rustic French. Casually elegant. These are all terms used on their website to describe the place and they are all appealing to us. And this restaurant has been around for quite a while — their website says since 2001, which is a lifetime in NYC dining world. So while in the neighborhood we finally visited for dinner. We were welcomed and seated promptly even though we were a tad early for our reservation. The dining room was veeery dark with votive candles and a farmhouse feel to the decor. The noise level, however, made it feel less like a farmhouse and more like a club. I noticed some panels on the ceiling that I think were for sound mitigation but they didn’t seem to be doing enough. Interesting to me was that they had a billiards room off to the side of the dining room — a curious choice to me but I thought perhaps it’s part of the notion of being a neighborhood place. Still we had high hopes — somehow the inviting set-up of the glass-paned wine room (facing the dining room) where guys also cut long lengths of baguettes into bread baskets made me feel like this was a place I wanted to be. Things started off well. Our waiter began by being somewhat attentive. Our appetizers were both really good — my hubby had a generous and flavorful shrimp cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce and I had the buffalo cauliflower (trendy I know, but I like it). The almost lunch-sized portion of cauliflower was beautifully breaded and sauced, with shavings of celery and a little too small dish of blue cheese dressing. Yummy. After that, downhill it all went. The well-meaning busboy didn’t know we had more food coming and asked before clearing everything—I’m glad he asked but that’s unusual after only appetizers. I was very happy that a bottle of water was on the table as our waiter became distant and we drained our iced teas. Our entrees got delivered. My chicken was fairly bland and the potatoes that came with it tasted a little too much like the soil from whence they were plucked. The greens on the plate were the best part of the entree. My hubby had a pork chop adobo and his comment was “eh, good.” Somehow our desserts couldn’t rise to the occasion. My pot de creme was sort of chocolatey with a sort of sour whipped cream (I do not think it was spoiled). Hubby’s cherry ice cream got a shrug reaction. Along with the declining food experience was a commensurate decline in service. Our waiter was visible at other tables but we sat and sat after dessert, just wanting to get the check and pay him. You might think he’d want that, too. It took an eagle eye and timing to try and get his attention. When we finally were able to pay our bill we left, wondering how this place could be here so long, but not wondering if we’d be back.

A neighborhood gem

By Michele B |

This is a great destination for anyone, including visitors to New York. But each time I go, I wish there were a place like this near my home. It feels welcoming and friendly every time. Nice variety in the menu, reasonable prices, terrific service. There are also Almond Restaurants in TriBeCa and Bridgehampton, though I haven't been to those.

A great lunch experience!

By Diana R |

I hadn't been to Almond in about a year, as it's further from my office than a few other nice spots. Having picked it for a social business lunch, I expected good food, and good conversation focused on business. After the first taste of my soup, that changed with my exclamation of "wow!". It was a chilled slightly creamy zucchini soup that tasted more like basil soup than zucchini in a most amazing way. I had a similar experience with the herb ricotta ravioli, deliciously flavored with tarragon, and in a delicate but sinful buttery sauce. Both dishes were remarkably tasty, and service was excellent. I will be back more often!

Great menu!

By amrisab |

I came here with friends from work and we had a great dinner. Service was good and so was the food. We loved the buffalo cauliflower and the steaks. The strawberry balsamic ice cream was to DIE FOR!

Great Meal - Great Value

By pcarlnj |

Last minute dinner plans brought us to Almond on a recent Friday night. I have been by this restaurant many times and had it on my "list" for a while. It was our luck that summer weekends in the city are quiet and a table was available on short notice. We both liked the vibe as soon as we walked in. And the rest of our experience only got better. Service was spot on. The restaurant was about 40% filled and the noise level was not bad. The wait staff works like a team and you can tell they enjoy working together. We shared the salad with grilled peaches and prosciutto - which was lightly dressed and very refreshing. For entrees, we had the catch of the day: fluke served over macerated tomatoes and the Cape May scallops, a regular menu item. We got a side of the sautéed greens. Everything was cooked to perfection - the flavor profile of the dishes was spot on. Our only disappointment is that we didn't eat here sooner - - we will return!

Just French enough for me!!

By AlicesAdventures13 |

I love French food but I could do without escargots, liver and frog legs. Almond has delicious fresh food with the more modern and non traditional French dishes. They had a great mix of cheeses on their cheese board with delicious jelly and nuts. The wedge salad was fantastic as well. I went with the scallops at Almond and my boyfriend had a steak. Both were fresh delicious and plated well. The atmosphere in Almond is like a bistro it can be a little noisy but cozy and the bar is great for dinner or drinks. The service was decent but nothing to write home About however I have no complaints.

Excellent brunch, great service and decor.

By cjsmithnj |

Had New Year's Day brunch- 1/2 lobster, shrimp cocktail, eggs Benedict and a few craft beers. All the food was prepared beautifully with obvious care. Lobster and shrimp were super fresh, cocktail sauce had shaved horseradish on top- excellent. Eggs cooked perfectly- poached so the yolk ran perfectly. Beer selection is interesting- it looked like all the beer was draft. Interesting cocktail menu. Decor was pleasant, service was knowledgeable about the menu and drinks- attentive without being overbearing. Despite other reviews certainly not expensive at all, especially for the area. Certainly worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood.

Fantastic brunch

By GPBucket |

We had a family brunch at Almond recently and it was extremely enjoyable. After a round of Bloody Marys, we shared ricotta pancakes and home fries along with our individual entrees. The pancakes were wonderful and not too rich. I've had ricotta pancakes at other restaurants and you feel like you'll never eat again. These were perfect. The potatoes were done just right so that they were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Some of us had omelettes, and all were great. I had the Almond Hash and it was amazing. If you like duck, it's a must. The service was great and timely. And I didn't think the prices were out of line either. Definitely a go-to brunch!

Nothing special

By DadMD |

Okay food, nothing extraordinary. Cocktails come in a small glass with a giant ice cube. Looks great but turns out to be a minimal drink. Service is nice but it is incredibly slow. It was so slow that we passes on dessert as we wanted to get home before winter.

Delicious Duck and Nice Atmosphere

By Michael B |

While visiting family in NYC, our relatives living close-by brought us here, their regular spot. It sits just off a quite corner, and from the street looks like the restaurant pays great attention to detail with nice outside seating and large front windows to see the decor within. The staff that greeted us were very pleasant, and showed us immediately to our reserved table. The menu appears to be purposefully moderate in the number options that offers a wide variety of options from seafood to steaks, pasta, and Asian-fusion. I had the duck, which I'm told the recipe changes regularly but the preparation of the duck is always on point. It did. It disappoint. They pan-roasted it very nicely, and it had a nice layer of fat that made each bite as delicious as the last. My wife had the scallops, and were prepared very well, and the combination of thin line bits of bacon and kohlrabi paired nicely. The waitstaff were very attentive, and made our family feel very welcomed. We had a very good experience overall.

Good Moules Frites

By Merlin K |

I like restaurants with a slightly eclectic approach to decor, this fits that category with a number of different areas. And a snooker table. Being the first seated in one of the sub areas we did feel a bit isolated for a little while but it soon filled up. We already knew what we were going to order. After years in the Netherlands, finding good moules frites can be a challenge. We decided to give it a go. And they were good, spoiled slightly by cheesy bread in the bottom of the sauce. For desert we had the lemon tart, and it was stunning. Wonderful, fresh, not overly sweet. Great choice. Staff friendly, good service.

Consistent - Food, Service, Atmosphere

By denisele0 |

Almond is my go-to restaurant. I go there on average once a week. The food is consistently well prepared and creative. The wait staff is always professional and attentive. The menu is my favorite aspect of Almond. It changes with the seasons and the dishes are always creative and satisfying. My least favorite thing about Almond is it can get noisy and sometimes the music is too laoud

Fresh and delicious food - excellent, knowledgeable service

By ZenaRd |

Almond is a great choice if you like clean, delicious food and drinks. Atmosphere is very relaxed, and service is excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable about food, had good west and east coast oysters, and the sardine appetizer, which is delicious, but not what you expect. It is pickled somewhat like a large anchovy, and served with very nice salad. Really tasty. For a main I actually had an appetizer portion short ribs with gnocchi - again - delicious and a large enough portion for me. Gnocchi were light and beautifully cooked. Short ribs rich and well seasoned. others had lamb and fish. We ended with the sticky date cake - almost as good as mine :) and pannacotta - delicious. Decent wine list. An in all a very good night, meal and experience. Have also been several times for drinks at the bar. Good happy hour! This is now a regular local place. Will be back!!!

Amazing brussel sprouts salad! Enjoyed an early evening dinner with an old friend. Great ambience without too much noise.

Nice Brunch

By Tatjana K |

We went with friends for brunch. One of them had suggested it. We arrived Saturday for opening and it took a while to be seated. They have very nice farm-to-table options with fresh food. From French Toast to Fried Rice there is something for all tastes. Their coffee is very good and they serve those mini biscuits (scone style not cookies) which were warm and absolutely gorgeous. I took the French Toast but was disappointed. I felt it was not drenched enough and the compote on top had a very strong nearly boozy taste. My girlfriend had the hash with confit duck which was very nice on the other hand. It has a nice ambience and filled up really quickly so for weekends reservations are for sure a must.

Casual dinner perfect place!

I love this place. Atmosphere is so great! Food is amazing. It's a great place to have dinner with friends, or for couples. Beef steak is simply great!

Nice atmosphere

As it was early the restaurant was almost empty but he bar was already in full swing. I think it's a place for people on their 30s after working hours. We had a very nice meal in a very nice atmosphere.

Bustling Sunday Brunch!

By NancyinDerby |

Almond was a convenient choice because of location, but it turned out to be a great chioce because of their wonderful Sunday Brunch and reasonable prices. The staff accommodated our large group and the service and food was great.

A sure bet.

Several friends had dinner at Almond and we all enjoyed it. The food was good and the service solid and friendly. The place is pretty large so there is a vibrant, energized feel bordering a bit on the loud side. Would definitely return.

Grand Brunch!

By BaysideConnecticut |

This was my first time here, brunch with a party of six. It is bustling and fun. I had the lobster salad to start small portion but very fresh lobster, then the salad Nicoise great trout and I sampled the almond hash, really extremely tasty. I also had the cured salmon side, fresh, the tiniest bit greasier than I like but I am a stickler for lox and, finally, the bacon, flat-out grand. This was a fun brunch, we will be back.

Romantic, friendly and delicious steak

By Jade H |

Fairy lights on out side make the restaurant feel warming and welcoming. We had no reservation, but still turned up at the restaurant in hope to get served a day in the week. It was very busy, but a seat was given to us after ten minutes waiting. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, soft background music, softly lit and calming. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We were seated and on the table presented with lovely fresh gristly bread served with butter. We ordered steak with chips. I had medium well done and my partner had medium rare. Both were cooked with perfection and a very good size. I couldn't finish mine sadly but I thoroughly enjoyed it. You get to choose a sauce with your steak that comes on the side. We had a lovely Rioja red wine that complimented the steak. It was delicious. We paid almost 50 dollars each including a tip that we thought was reasonable. There is also free wifi here if you need it. We settled the bill and walked out. Well we thought we had but soon noticed a waiter chasing us down the street because we forgot to sign the bill the restaurant keep. This was a genuine error on our part as in London once the transaction goes through the bill is complete. But this was not the case here. So the waiter apologised to us, explained the problem and we sighed our bill straight away. Be mindful not to do the same. Thanks Almond.

Sunday Brunch

Good food, good service, not rushed. What else do you want? The food was brunch style and the servings were not stingy

Great weekend brunch spot

By Nanceroo |

We visited for a late lunch/brunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was quite crowded even at 2 pm, so we were glad we had a reservation. They start you off with some delicious bite-sized biscuits that come with butter and even more delicious rhubarb jam. It's hard not spoil your appetite! My niece had their famed ricotta pancakes and enjoyed them. I had a Croque Madame and loved it, although it was more than I could finish. My husband had the duck hash and said it was amazing. We were in the city for an 8 pm show and didn't need to eat again because the food was so satisfying and the portions sizes so generous. We thought the prices were reasonable given the portion and quality (and the fact that its NYC!). Service was attentive, perhaps a little overly so, but that's better than being ignored. As I said it was crowded and a bit noisy, which made it a fun atmosphere, but not right for every occasion. I really enjoyed it and will definitely return.

Wonderful place with great food

By boopenny |

I have been coming here for several years but had not been back in a while. Met friends for drinks and appetizers on Wednesday and was reminded about what an enjoyable place this is. It is a fairly large restaurant with a long bar area so ideal for meeting people or for a quiet dinner. The food is consistently good if a little expensive but the atmosphere and the staff are worth it. It is a nice, eclectic crowd that appreciates the good food and great ambiance. I will be back!

Great food, poor service

By PirateJen123 |

Went here for a group dinner last night with 12 people. We had a reservation, but our waiter acted like we were bothering him. He was unfriendly, didn't make conversation and definitely didn't keep the drinks flowing. In fact he told a girl in our group that he nor the bartender knew the drink she ordered so "could she please stick the the drink menu". Later someone in our group ordered the same drink that the other girl requested and to our amazement she received it. In this day and age, I'm not sure how someone doesn't know how to make a drink, we all have google tucked in our pocket. The wait for food was a bit longer that I'd like, but the food was really good. Too bad the night was overshadowed by bad service.

Consistently fantastic

By JPforshort |

One of my favorite brunches in NYC, and a must stop on every visit. Highly recommend the duck hash or the pastrami and eggs, and a mimosa never hurts. Can't recommend it enough. Great service, great atmosphere, and food that's yet to disappoint. Oh and the starter biscuits (mini scones) are stellar.

Wonderful place for a family get together!

By C22Ctravel |

Our party of 11 went there for Christmas Eve brunch and had a wonderful time! The food was delicious and plentiful, the place was beautifully decorated. The holiday music was at just the right volume so that we could enjoy it and still carry on a lively conversation. We found ourselves staying even after they cleared the table to enjoy the pool table in the back room. Don't forget to pick up a complementary tin of almonds on your way out! Highly recommended!

WOW!

By michael w |

What a great dining experience. We found this place via a Travelzoo deal, and so happy we did. The eatery is situated on 22nd St., just off Broadway. You can eat outside and look at (unattractive) 22nd St. or you can go inside and look at interesting décor with soft light. It is not too cold inside, not too warm.We opted for inside. Marcus was our waiter. Not a shy guy! An interesting character with worldly opinions. He brought us bread-warm, nice crust-and water. Marcus recommended a nice red wine, and it was wonderful. We had short ribs for our appetizer, and they were scrumptious. I had lamb chops for the entrée, and they were outstanding-probably the best ones I have ever had. My wife had scallops, and she raved about them. The dinner was served at a very nice pace. We entered Almond at 6 P.M., and needed to be out at 7:20. Marcus said "not a problem" and he delivered. We skipped dessert, and were out of there at 7:19!! I recommend this restaurant highly-great food and service, and nice atmosphere....what could be better?

Very enjoyable, service was exceptional

By Tammi C |

My son who is a foodie and a chef found this restaurant on Google and we are so happy he did. The food was delicious and every one of us left a clean plate. We started with escargot which was outstanding. Our server, Lauren, was possibly the best waitress we have ever encountered. She was able to suggest items off the menu and was very thorough and knowledgeable about every single item on the menu. She nailed every suggestion she gave us. One of us had scallops, the other Sullivan County Trout and three of us shared a 36 ounce ribeye that was the most tender and delicious cuts of beef imaginable. That paired with the macaroni and cheese and macerated tomatoes was perfect. We ended the evening with dessert, coffees and a cordial. Our party of six had the best time and it was a dining experience to remember. We will be back for sure.

Had an excellent time, but service a little busy

By solo-reader-wanderer |

I went with a family friend. We both ordered steak. The wait staff was kind, attentive, and answered our questions about wine and steak with excellent recommendations. We were very happy with both our steak and wine. Everything was excellent. The ambiance is lovely—music and dimmed lighting, but not overwhelming at all, and we were able to talk without much trouble. We had made a 7pm reservation and were seated immediately. Only complaint is that after we did not order dessert, we asked for the check, and then we asked again after not seeing our waiter for several minutes, and a couple more times after that. It took us near a half hour to get the check, which was a bit frustrating. Other than that, a great experience, and I would go again.

Almond

Almond is a very nice neighborhood place. The service is good and the food is fun. Have visited several times. It is consistent.

Beautiful restaurant, incredible steak, good value

By yllop1101 |

We searched high and low for a reasonably priced, well rated steak restaurant, and Almond is just that. We came here on our last night in the city, and we had the best service we have had all week, and the best meal. It was lost certainly worth the wait. The atmosphere is relaxed and romantic, the staff are knowledgeable about the food they are serving, unobtrusive but sufficiently attentive, and the food is divine. This is a must visit if you're looking for top quality food away from the tourist traps. You will not regret it.

Surprisingly just OK

By nyctool324 |

Went for brunch, excellent service was not that crowded. Food was just ok (been here before and the food was really good) Didn’t seem to be as much care about food or attention to detail. Two people got the same dish quiche and salad and appearance and size looked totally different Maybe this is why not so crowded?

Classic and great!

By Nate |

Almond is great! Lots of options and they are just all great! Nice and very helpful staff! Good location, right off broadway and in the center of Gramercy/flatiron. Nice atmosphere with music and a nice bar. Good table layout. Big space, and too crowded. Great for all meals!

Dinner

By travelingtheworld627 |

We enjoyed a nice dinner at Almond by the Flatiron building. The Mac & cheese was very rich but good. Brussels sprouts were very tasty. My husband had the scallops and I had the Thursday special which was a Cornish hen cooked under a brick. It was good but not sure it was worth the $31 price. Overall nice dinner.

They Made a Big Group Very Happy

By laurencat |

Our group of nine people went for food at about 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon, after completing the Five Borough Tour. So 45 miles of cycling, and we were hungry! Ordered buffalo cauliflower for the table, which is cauliflower with buffalo wings type sauce. Yum! And I hate cauliflower. Really good bread. Mussels were super fresh. A few burgers were had, couple of steaks, lamb chops, pork chops, duck taquitos and brussels sprouts. Couple bottles of wines, some beers and cocktails and it came to $75pp. Would definitely go back!

Good food but service very poor

By copperbottom |

Good brunch spot. Tasty food. Second visit just as good as first but service both times was slow, disorganized and sometimes, unfriendly. Good setting too. Nice vibe. Bloody Mary's not the best either. Will return but please sort the service.

Great all around spot

By Jacques B |

We went for a late dinner after seeing a play at the Irish Theater on West 22nd Street. The place is fun, large, lively, very attractive, well managed. Our waiter was Steve and he was really good. The food was excellent and fairly priced. The wine list is a bit pricey but I see this a lot lately; restaurants keeping the food prices constant but raising the drink prices. We left very pleased with our experience. I believe they have a restaurant in the Hamptons and we will make it a point to visit there as well. The macaroni and cheese is great so get a side with your meal.

Ace brunch and lovely service

By saranLondon |

We were six and a 3 year old. So a restaurant nightmare. The staff were fab with little Sam, and the little scones brought to the table a move of genius. I loved the asparagus with egg and also the ricotta pancakes with lemon curd. Good coffee too. the traditional brunch plates looked rather huge but people seemed to get through them. Very good coffee too. Would return like a shot - even without toddler.
