Amelovely

Great place with outstanding service. Make sure to book the correct one, as there are two in the city. Both the food and the wine had a high standard. A small drawback is that the tables are quite close, so be prepared to listen in on your neighbors.

Atmosphere, food and staff

By kr301 |

We had a beautiful meal here on Sunday evening. It had such a lovely, cosy atmosphere which is ideal in the winter. The food was amazing - the steak was spot on and the staff were funny, friendly and attentive. I can’t wait to come back.

Good but not great

By Rajaa N |

I had dinner with my family to celebrate a birthday. The place is packed and vibrant but the tables are too small and too close to each other to the point you are elbowing your fellow diners and it is impossible to move to go to the restroom. Service is inconsistent from all staff especially towards the end of the evening. Orders can be forgotten. Food is typical French bistro food but can be hit or miss. Considering all of the above, Amelie is overrated and does not deserve the current ranking amongst other marvelous places in the city. I gave it a generous 4 star rating but would not go back.

Wonderful Way To Celebrate A BIG Birthday!

By JauntyJournaler |

Recently we went to NYC to celebrate my husband's 50th B-day. When asking my husband where he wanted to eat when he turned 50.... he asked for me to find a cool little place in the city, that had good drinks, great food and a fun vibe. Using those traits as a guideline I searched Tripadvisor for a spot. I booked a reservation and hoped for the best. Amelie was everything I was hoping and more. Traditionally I wouldn't think of a place like this at the BIRTHDAY spot, but it ticked all my husband's boxes and was perfect. Wine flights are $12 between 5:30 and 7 and our reservations were for 6, so we had time for a couple of flights. The pours are generous, and the serving staff is knowledgeable about wine and very friendly. We didn't want a formal dinner, instead, we wanted a variety of small plates. We opted for a plate of crostini (every flavor on the menu) grilled octopus, Crab Gratines, and a salad. Everything was delicious, prepared with high-quality ingredients and wonderful flavors. We ended our night with lava cake and took a leisurely stroll back to our hotel with a full stomach and very happy. Thank you Amelie for having such a laid back feel, you never rushed us, allowed us to eat and drink at our leisure. The vibe was young and energetic. Even the music being played enhanced the experience. (Whoever makes the playlist...well done) If I had any complaint at all... the only thing I would say is that I requested a window seat and instead was put in the back of the restaurant with the other diners "over a certain age"....LOL. Looking around it seemed the older crowd was to the back while the front of the house was filled to the brim with the young and professional crowd. It might just be that way at happy-hour and for that we completely understand. Honestly, while it's hard to admit that you are getting older, I will say that we would have stood out during happy hour in the front of the house and being in the back was fine. We would have loved to watch the city out the window while we ate, but it was quieter in the back of the house. We usually try to eat in new places on our visits to NYC but we both agreed we would come here again, it is worth it!!! TIP- It isn't a big place and you are very close to the table next to you. Space is at a premium and anyone that struggles with being very close to other people might have some issue here.

The Drôme in New York

By Épicurien Varois |

At the top, well located, the boss Olivier is very pleasant and professional. We feel very good in this restaurant. Very good food, very extensive wine list. I recommend, without a doubt.

Excellent happy hour

By Cat & taco fan |

Amelie has yummy happy hour nibbles, gracious service, and cosy lighting. What more could you ask from happy hour? I would definitely come back. We had the crostini sampler, baked Camembert and the shishito peppers. Super delicious.

Happy Hour is Incredible!

By KellysVT |

We had an amazing time with the amazing wine flight Happy Hour! The wine flights are chosen by members of the Amelie team so it was a blast chatting with the folks who had designed our flights and finding out what they love about their flight choices. We had the pate that was out of control...SO YUMMY! We also had the escargot which was the best escargot we had ever had!! The atmosphere is warm and eclectic and the service was impeccable. So fun and absolutely affordable!

Tasty French bistro food in a relaxed setting

By faangirl |

The restaurant serves ably prepared French bistro food in a relaxed setting. (In addition to enjoying our chosen dishes, we were impressed to discover that, even at 7 p.m., the accompanying bread tasted bakery-fresh.) The wine list has a good range of choices and prices. On our visit, the service was attentive without being intrusive. Our main waiter, Matthieu, was very helpful. We hope to return soon and bring friends to enjoy this gem of an eatery.

Love this place always

By EY_GlobeTrekker |

Can’t get enough of great wine flights and food. Exceptional no matter what is ordered. Love the ambiance always.

Lively French Bistro/Wine Bar

By MeAgain8 |

I first have to say that the staff here is so kind and friendly. We had dinner reservations each night around the city over our 4 day stay and I messed up our time for Amelie and inadvertantly arrived 45 minutes late on a busy Friday night. I felt horrible, but the staff went out of their way to find us a table. Portions are VERY generous and we definately over-ordered.... Loved the Roast Cauliflower and truffle ravioli!

Excellent Lunch Spot!

By rossie0823 |

Excellent lunch options, atmosphere, and service! The lunch menu is the same as their weekend brunch menu, great idea in my opinion. I had the Original Eggs Benedict and a Mimosa, highly recommended both.

Outstanding

By Born2Travel57 |

Extremely attentive staff, very energetic atmosphere, and great food. One of our new favorite restaurants in NYC. The Grilled Octopus, Duck Leg Confit, and Coq au Vin were delicious. The warm apple tarte tatin for dessert was a perfect ending to a fabulous meal!!

Happening restaurant with comfort food near Washington Square!

By Susan B |

The bar area was crowded with a young crowd and loud music. The rear was quieter and the food was French comfort food. We ordered cod with olive oil mashed potatoes with olives and brussels sprouts, kale salad with orange sections and pomegranate seeds and Lyonnaise salad with frisbee and poached egg. Will return when we are in the neighborhood.

Fantastic!

By Stacey |

This was a 5 star French meal - food, ambiance, and service. From the friendly maitre d to the unbelievable food. Get the frisée salad and duck confit! Wine flights are wonderful ($4 less before 7p).

J'aime Amélie!

By Ricardo R |

Great place; good deco, awesome food, great attention, very good wine and excellent location. Highly recommended. It's definitely a must. We were very happy and lucky to find it, it's become one of our favorite places in the city.

Daughter’s 30th Birthday Celebration

By byttrup |

Loved this quaint spot - service was great and staff so nice and accommodating. My daughter and I enjoyed our experience while in town to celebrate her 30th. Ordered the small plates - brussel sprouts (were da bomb), an appetizer-sized portion of butternut squash risotto, as well as the beet and Lyonnaise salads - so tasty, and flavorful. The wine and cocktails enhanced our dining experience and rounded out this special evening - definitely returning. A little bit of France, indeed!

Wine flights, busy with small tables, good food and service. Little noisy.

By islandgirl88 |

This a small rectangular place with a row of small tables along one wall and the bar along the other. The good part of that is that it's easy to get a waiter's attention. They had a nice selection of wine flights and very tasty food. It's a bit noisy and a bit crowded but reasonably priced with very good food and so very popular. It was a pretty young crowd on a Friday night around 8pm. No complaints.

Last Minute Choice - A Success

By mmandpiper |

Four of us enjoyed a last minute dinner at Amelie. Visiting NYC, we found ourselves at Washington Sq when my husband quickly looked up a place to eat and selected Amelia. We were welcomed and they found a great table for us. We knew my son would love to try the flight of wine. His chicken liver pate was so smooth and excellent. The Celery root soup was subtle and delicious. The wait staff was gracious and fun. Thanks to one of the great staff members who shared some Wolof words with my son. The atmosphere was just right, not too loud. A classy French restaurant that didn't have to try too hard. Thank you

Romantic French dinner

By Penny Thomas |

We accidentally made reservations for the CA location. Benjamin was kind enough to get us a seat in a very crowded restaurant. I'm so glad he did, we had an awesome experience. He greeted us with champagne while we were waiting (even though it was our mistake). The food was very traditional and yummy. We had the Escargot, Duck Confit, Foie Gras and beet salad along with a glass of Cab Franc. It was so good and reasonably priced. I would definitely go again.

Excellent Wine Bar

By stonellas |

We had spent the morning walking around New York & were looking for somewhere to have a quick bite to eat. Luckily we found Amelie which was a brilliant place. After a very refreshing G&T we chose the baked camembert & a plate of charcuterie. The food was excellent, beautifully presented & just what we want. The service was excellent & it was just a shame we couldn't have a "proper" meal there as we were going out that night & didn't want to spoil our appetites. It was perfect for what we wanted.

Wonderful dinner, great service

By Randy_Gunter |

We stopped in for dinner before a show. I had the ravioli, which was wonderful. The truffle butter really made it exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious

By Laurenrajala |

We came in for lunch, and the place was quiet but the food was outstanding!!! We had the smoked salmon Benedict and duck confirm. Bon appetit. Also, on a fun side note, the waiters will talk to you in French :)

Exelente

By Algarvio |

Very good food , its a small restaurant but exelent food. The service was good as well . Recomended . Try the chocolat fondant is exeptional

Delicious and friendly

By Victoire36 |

A little bit of France in Greenwich Village. Nothing pretentious but a very friendly welcome, good wines and delicious food - salmon tartar and Amelie salad among others.

Un Home Run!

By RANDALL D |

Like being in Paris. Wonderful food—loved the pan seared trout but duck breast and hangar steak also were great. Delicious Aperol spritzes. Good wine selection not outrageously priced. Great, friendly staff. A bit noisy—think of it as being a vibrant atmosphere—and tables are petite, but totally worth it. Definitely will return.

Total package

By deborah m |

Everything about this place was great....starting with a great staff. Food was great...atmosphere fun and casual.

Excellent French food in the village

By Scott H |

My son and I had dinner here before a show on Broadway. He enjoyed the Hudson Valley foie gras while I enjoyed escargot to start. The fantastic bread is brought out in these cute little burlap bags, but you don't want to fill up on the bread because the food is going to be so amazing. My son ordered a hanger steak medium rare, and it was perfectly prepared. I opted for the trout, which was a whole fish expertly deboned, and so scrumptious that I wanted to lick the plate! Also enjoy the great pouring of Cote du Rhone wine with dinner. The service was fast and friendly, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We will be back!

Pleasantly surprised!

By KPC7 |

Three of us were there on a Saturday night because we waited too late to get reservations at places we knew. Crowded and loud at the front, so get a table all the way in the back if your goal is quiet conversation. We ordered a selection of appetizers for our meal. Warm pistachio crusted goat cheese and mushroom flatbread were especially good. Friendly service.

Excellent food, slow service, deafeningly loud

By PrinceConsort |

This is a really nice restaurant for 2 people. The food is excellent. Service is friendly but slow. They don't seem to understand the concept of a pre-dinner drink...if you order a pre-dinner drink there is a long wait before they bring it to you, and then your appetizer arrives before you are half way through the drink. The noise level is extremely high. It is pretty much impossible for a party of 4 to carry on anything resembling a normal conversation. It is OK for 2 people, but for 4 it is very hard. The last time I went there (and don't get me wrong, I will definitely go back) there was a man several tables away, perhaps lubricated by several glasses of wine, or perhaps trying to impress his girlfriend, who was braying so loudly that I could hear every word that he said!

Excellent Service, Food, Wine.. decor.. meh

By music_culture_junkie |

The wait-staff are perfect. Perfect amount of friendliness and formality.. they are both expertly knowledgeable and yet totally approachable. Probably the best service I've ever had. The Cheese and Meat charcuterie board choices are phenomenal, and all the additions, from the buttery smooth honey to the candy-sweet grapes, carmelised onions and fresh baguette are worthy of their own meal. Our main course was a little disappointing; we opted for the ravioli. The pasta was perfectly thin and the stuffing nutty and cheesy. But the ravioli and the truffle shavings were baked in a wollop of cheese- way too rich, and what a waste of truffle shavings! We capped of the night with a glass of eau de vie. Crisp and delightful. The only major drawback I would say was the decor- it's just not to my taste and really detracts from the food, rather than creating ambiance. There were a lot of red neon lights, and Jetsons-like cartoony light fixtures.

Always wonderful

By BKC2003 |

The warm pistachio crusted goat cheese ball used to be my favorite appetizer at Amelie. We would go to Amelie just for that item and the wine flights. My new favorite is the octopus carpaccio. The variety of flavors in this dish is wonderful. Naim recommended a "black pepper flavored" red wine called Monje Tradicional. Fantastic! If Jacques is working the bar, be sure to greet him. He has a great way to make you feel at home.

Service in French available !

By Melanie |

The food, the drinks and the waiter were perfect. They took our order in French. We did not take reservation but in 30 minutes, they been able to prepare a nice spot for us.

Delicious Lunch

By FabulousTL |

Small restaurant that gets crowded and a bit loud. We were a party of six and we were squished into a tight area. The service was friendly and efficient. The Bloody Marys were super and the wine list is interesting. Simple clean decor. The sandwiches were all enjoyed as well a salad or two. One salad had too much vinegar but that is one person's taste. Certainly a nice place to visit.

Unimpressed.

By HonestMcHonest |

Wines were too warm and not very good Cocktails OK Food was nothing to write home about Not a very comfy setting. Friendly bartenders however make it kind of fun

A party for your taste buds

By jcl0519 |

We just tried Amelie this past Saturday night. Sought it out as we were specifically looking for something with a wide variety of flavors, fun and different. We had a reservation for 8 p.m. Were offered a choice of a table up front or in the back. Thankfully took the back as it was very noisy and crowded up front. People were having fun which is fine, but we wouldn't have been able to hear each other at all had we sat there, and the small tables are very close together. Wait staff was helpful, courteous and friendly. Cheese and charcuterie plates come with a basket of bread. They can be made with your choice of two, three or five items, and they garnish with grapes, honey, fruit spread, dried apricots, figs, candied walnuts, carmelized onions and a dab of hot mustard. We chose Comte, manchego, and a third cheese, plus thin sliced duck breast and sopressato. Wow! It was all delicious. We followed that with two appetizers - sauteed cauliflower and the crab tartine. Both were generous portions. My husband said the cauliflower was the best he's ever had. The crab tartine was like a crabmeat salad with avocado, some jalapeno, on toast, with frisee. It was marvelous and the jalapeno gave it a nice little kick. We did not get entrees, having had enough to eat with the above. We had five different glasses of wine between the two of us, then shared a chocolate lava cake with ice cream. One small disappointment was they only had espresso, no regular coffee or cappuccino. The ambiance is terrific. Modern decor, low lighting, young, happy clientele. A bit noisy but as long as you're aware of that going in, it's fine. Love it!

Nice Way to Spend Sunday Early Afternoon

By xaviercourtois |

Pros: Wonderful waiter, able to make a reservation for brunch, varied menu, bread to kill for (and generously supplied), and the best Eggs Benedict I've had in many many years (probably due to the fact that it was made with an imported French ham that reminded me of a semi-crispy prosciutto instead of Canadian bacon). Cons: The popular brunch drink known as the "Bellini" was featured on the menu, but when we ordered two of them we were told that there was only one left. Also, the coffee was very warm but not quite hot. Having said that, I would consider myself lucky to get a reservation there again. It was delicious all around.

Very popular during happy hour

By marilynkatherine |

This is a cozy and modern wine bar in the heart of Greenwich Village with a long bar to sit at and smaller tables all along a long slim room. They have a great happy hour menu with flights of wine to taste at a great price of $12 for three glasses of very good wine that you can select by the type you prefer -robust, fruity, etc. We had a wonderful salad each followed by a very hearty charcuterie plate, which again you can select by the type of meat and/or cheese you prefer. It’s served with a basket of very good bread and some tasty side dishes. It gets very busy very quickly around 6:30 pm so make a reservation ahead of time! And it does get loud once the place fills up - it seems to be very popular with the younger set. The wine bar is perfectly located for a light meal before a comedy club or jazz club performance nearby or to come back to afterwards for drinks or deserts. The menu looks enticing and the food was very nicely presented and tasted delicious.

Well prepared and presented

By Case90 |

The food was not only made well but presented in a very nice way. Wait staff were attentive and friendly.

Super busy yet still very friendly

By jillfromri |

Very friendly, helpful staff. Nice cocktail choices (the French 75 was delicious), great happy hour, delicious food. Make a reservation.

A bit of Paris in the Village

By diamondgirlMichigan |

This French bistro is friendly, bustling, and fun. Our food was excellent. My husband raved about his salmon, and of course, we both loved the warm pistachio goat cheese. I thought the Amelie spritz was delicious, and would return just for that!

Great French restaurant

By AHSH23 |

Food was nice, we had the mussels which where great. The Foie Gras it wasn't the best we have eaten. The duck was lovely, and the steak was nice but wasn't very tender. The service was fantastic.

Birthday meal

By cosmicgirl_77 |

Loved this place, we were running late for our table but the wonderful manager found us a great window seat in 5 mins even though the restaurant was very busy. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food, gorgeous wine flights - all made one very happy birthday girl! We love French food and have eaten in Paris quite a lot, this place ranks very highly in comparison. Thank you Amelie for a wonderful evening!

Just go here.

By Marybeth D |

Amelie is a gem. David is a wonderful server. His suggestions were so helpful and accurate. The food is spot on French like you enjoy ( okay, love) in France. We had the mushroom tarte and goat cheese ball to start and both were wonderful. Smear the cheese on The equally delicious bread. Don’t be polite. Sigh with happiness. I had the duck Confit and my husband had the mussels. Oh. My. Goodness. Best confit outside of Carcassone, France but so much closer to home. Came with wild mushrooms and fried sliced potatoes in a gravy you can finish off with the bread! But there won’t be much left Since you have to soak the duck, mushrooms AND potatoes in The gravy before you eat them…. The mussels were fresh and delicious. With frites to die for. We split a chocolate fondant which was lovely, but if you are too full, it’s understandable. Seriously go here. Happy hour wines are also top notch and pair well with the four items we ordered.

Not so French...

By Marion L |

Ok, the atmosphere is really nice, some dishes are really French and food is good, BUT, a real Frenc would never sel a "Coq au Vin" made with chicken, this is disrespectful of French cuisine and tradition, if you have no roaster, don't try to disguise your chicken, chicken is chicken, roaster is roaster so change it for a "Poulet au vin" :)

What a little treasure...

By Ed. |

Definitely had high expectations for Amelie and we were not disappointed. We had a table for two by the window and it was perfect... snow outside, warm and cosy inside with a great choice of food and wine. Started with the French Onion soup and the Foie Gras - both delicious and finished off with Hanger Steak, Chocolate Moose and a Cheese Board. I think you could have ordered anything off the menu and it would have tasted fantastic, this place knows how to cook! The staff were welcoming and helpful but not over fussy, gave you plenty of time to chose and otherwise chat. Given its popularity we thought we’d be rushed but the whole night was relaxed and enjoyable. The atmosphere is great here, it’s cramped and busy, dark and noisy... its perfectly Parisian, loved it.

Excellent!

By grammyelaina |

My daughter and I enjoyed an early dinner Friday evening. Excellent charcuterie and cheese board. French onion soup was so-so. Would go again...as with many restaurants in NYC, tables very close together.

Very nice bistro near Washington square NY

By Soraia2012 |

Tonight was my third time at this very nice bistro in NY. The staff as usual was very gentle and sympathetic besides the excelent quality of the food and wine. Also the price is affordable. For all these reasons strongly recommend this restaurant in NY.

Wine flight and cheese/meat plate!

By Daniel W |

Four of us stopped in for a light lunch. We got a chefs board with cheese and meats. Very tasty. We had reservations but had to wait for our table. We also had wine flights, they gave you 3 pours of similar wines. A nice choice. Our servers were pleasant and knowledgeable. But waited for water, and our fries were cold.

Just Average

By Jerome |

Unfortunately, the posted restaurant hours are different, so we arrived after lunch and before dinner. Therefore their menu was a bar menu. The food we ordered was good but I expected more.

Delightful bistro

By Peter R |

Food is great, it gets a little packed and the noise level can be high. But there is a great buzz and you always dine well.

Lovely French bistro with a decidedly New York flavor

By Brian S |

Lovely French bistro with a decidedly New York flavor. Hip styling and lighting, yet not pretentious – it is a very comfortable spot. We were made to feel very welcome and the service was very good. Nice menu, very traditional French bistro style. Everything we sampled was very good. Standouts included the octopus, the trout and the “French style” baked ravioli. Nice salads, as well as decadent molten chocolate dessert. Nice large wine pours as well.

Greenwich village wine bar

By skiNebraska |

We arrived early for our dinner reservations and had flights of wine, escargot, baby peppers and olives for appetizers. Flights for $12 were a bargain! Pisco sours were delish . Foie gras, salad nicoise with seared tuna, crab tartine, octopus carpaccio, ravioles, and pei mussels were our main courses, all winners! Only complaint was that the tables are small

Trendy, crowded, probably good restaurant

By scott j |

We were recommended this place. It is very quaint and trendy. Expect to be seated in a very small, compact, crowded, and noisy environment. The wine flight was excellent. The food was not remarkable. The service was very poor and non attentive. I see lots of potential here. Perhaps we hit the wrong night as it was 4th of July Eve?

Great French Gem!

By MariaActon_MA |

Last Saturday night, we had an awesome dinner at Amelie in NYC. Food, atmosphere, and service was outstanding! We started with a sample of the crostinis and they were fabulous! All the entrees were delicious and well presented especially the pan roasted trout, duck leg confit and raviolis gratin. Desserts choices were excellent too. The apple tart, chocolate mouse and the lava cake are a must! The entrees menu is not that extensive, it would be nice to have a few more options; however everything that we ordered was fantastic. We didn't order any of the cheeses or charcuterie but they had an amazing selection. The wine flights were a great deal and they paired well with all the food flavors.

Pride Brunch

By Dana M |

Went for drinks and brunch during the pride parade. The french toast was delicious but drinks were inconsistent and had to be sent back multiple times. I might like to go back on a less busy occasion - it's a small place to begin with!

Quick meal

By NewsteadWines |

Quick meal in the neighbourhood. Very dimly lit, vibey and busy. Good service and food. Convenient location.

Great experience, delicious food!

By Georg K |

We were a bit sick of eating sandwiches, burgers etc. and were looking for a more European style restaurant and found this place in beautiful Greenwich village, an amazing neighborhood with plenty of nice restaurants and little stores. The menu is not big but offers all you need. The wine selection great and the service as well. Since we love meat we had the tartar and it was just great. I also recommend the salmon tartar. In the evenings pretty busy you should reserve a table but can wait at the bar as well having a Glas of wine. The only thing making this French Restaurant a bit non French was the level of noise. Loud RnB music made the level of noise people speaking even louder and did harm the European experience a bit.

Do yourself a favor and eat here

By Jen |

While spending the day walking through NYC we happened upon this place for lunch. What an incredible find. We count ourselves so lucky that we came down this street. We had a beautiful afternoon sipping wine, people watching and eating amazing food. We got the charcuterie plate with two cheeses and the jambon. The display was beautiful and classy, the food exquisite. We hope to be back again.

wonderful lunch aka French

By skaszab2016 |

what a wonderful bistro. Excellent service as we received our drinks and lunch quickly. The attentive staff always around to make sure we were drinking and eating. Atmosphere was very pleasant...like we were in Europe having a laid back meal. Thank you :)

Superb!

By filippo |

For years I wanted to return to Paris just to taste again the coq au vin and I found it really excellent in this delightful Greenwich village restaurant . The soup of the day (topinambour) was delicious and well balanced. Wine list is quite extensive. I do recommend it. Merci beaucoup Amelie pour cette magnifique soirée

Very Good French Fare

By Andrew |

I was very pleased with this authentic French cuisine. I had Salmon, which was cooked and seasoned well. The service was timely and we were attended to frequently. I was, again, satisfied and will return soon!

Paris Cafe in Greenwich Village

Delicious French cafe food. Also during COVID excellent outside service. Now same delicious food inside or outside. Really good small plates or more. Good wine, lovely adult atmosphere..

Mais, Oui!

By Erin S |

Excellent place to come for a nice glass of wine, a delicious meal and desert. Perfect location close to Washington Square Park. Just lovely!

Delicious French food

By MTF |

A shotgun layout limits the number of tables so reservations are highly suggested. The service is excellent and most of all... the food is tres magnifique! The wine flights are generous and very good selections. We shared the mussels for an appetizer, Amelie salad- then my husband had the duck confit which was wonderful and I had the equally wonderful onion soup. Freshly baked French bread is replenished throughout the meal. The waitstaff is attentive but not annoying. The tables are simply set - very European!

Amélie is for me!

By Luke M |

An intimate, rustic French restaurant with provincial style menu and excellent wine pairings. For entree, The French onion soup was a cheesy, delicious treat. Perfect. The beef bourguignon was brilliantly rich. Be sure to soak it up with bread. The cheese selections are wonderful to enjoy your selected wine, even a wine tasting paddle. A popular taste of France in the village!

A sweet French experience in the midst of the Village...

By kschutta |

Such a breath of fresh air in the Village...I recommend going before the after-work folks come in; it fills up very quickly, and for good reason. The food is fresh and innovative, the service warm and efficient, but not officious...decor is reminiscent of a bright Parisian bistro...

Nice Ambiance, Excellent Food!

By David |

While in the Village we visited Umami Burger only to find they moved! So, cranked up Trip Advisor app on my phone and, voila, found Amelie. The Lamb Tagine was excellent, as well as the mushroom flatbread. We look forward to our next visit!

Awful

By cah8492 |

I asked for a pinot noir and the bar tender poured a taste without even telling me which one it was. I tried to ask and he got snippy about it. I ordered my food and he tried to correct me on the pronunciation of "haricot verts" to "hairy coverts." Really? Is this NYC or Tennessee? My mother is a french-trained chef. I'm certain I know the correct pronunciation of the term. Also, I hate to be this way, but I have a degree in neuroscience and this bartender was clearly not educated. This place is a joke. They clearly only get business from tourism.

Great French bistro

By Turtle5954 |

Very nice French food close to the Village. Very nice hot camembert and red pepper soup, along with deep fried cauliflower and steak tartare, all very tasty. Good value and friendly service.

Excellent again!

By George C |

Third visit in as many visits to New York. We adore this restaurant- it’s always busy which speaks volumes Food was just as good and the vegetarian options I had were great! Staff are wonderful - it’s a must to visit if you are in New York

Delicious French Dining in Greenwich Village

By Craig O |

My wife and I had dinner at this authentic French restaurant in Greenwich Village. We ate outdoors on the street so I cannot comment on the indoor decor. The menu was extensive with classic French dishes done to perfection, but lighter fare than traditional French cuisine. We enjoyed it. My coq au vin had a tasty, moist chicken served with a delicate sauce with vegetables and lardons. My wife had a French onion soup that she rated the very best she’s ever had. In short our meals were everything we could have expected and more. We would definitely return.

Great dinner at the new at the Upper West Side Amelie

By JohnandMarylou |

We had been to the Greenwich Village Amelie for happy hour drinks and apps, and really enjoyed it, but never were able to get a table for dinner. This time we made a reservation early and tried the new Upper West side Amelie. It was fantastic. The service was wonderful, and everyone enjoyed their food. The $12 happy hour wine flights are great. It was fun to try three different wines at such a reasonable price. From the escargot and cheese as apps, to the duck confit, coq au vin, and ravioli mains, to the chocolate mouse and tarte tatin deserts, it was a wonderful meal at a very reasonable price. There are not a lot of places in Manhattan where you can get such a great meal for such reasonable prices. It is definitely worth it to plan ahead, make a reservation, and give it a try. My only suggestion would be that I would have enjoyed the bread if it was not lightly toasted.

Good stuff! 😀

By Murray F |

So u can do a walk up here and wait to be seated if busy which is most nights. They turnover quite a few people so usually quick. Service is excellent and has some healthy salad options. We went with our 10 year old who struggled to find something suitable on the menu. We enjoyed it tho with the crab cakes and zucchini sliders the standouts. Worth a look.

Scrumptious French

By Ritzy-Fitzy |

Dropped into this chic little Village bar/restaurant for a late light dinner. And what a fabulous meal it was ...... we shared a range of small plates and loved them all, with chilled pink champers the perfect complement. Couldn't fault the food, service or atmosphere - we'd be back tomorrow if we just didn't live so very far away.

La cuisine d’amélie - 566 Amsterdam / W87th st.

By Roger Paul M |

La cuisine d’amélie on the upper west side. In continuing our visit to New York, we started investigating the restaurants in close proximity to our hotel. This being winter, one doesn’t want to venture too far out in an unfamiliar city when it is freezing. This small restaurant caught our eye and we decided to go there to dinner. And I am really pleased that we did. We were met by Stefan at the door and he arranged us a table at the back of the restaurant. In looking at the menu, it became immediately apparent that this was no ordinary restaurant. The menu was simple but exquisite, based around the available produce. This was explained by Stefan, when he was discussing the options on the menu. We decided on a Seasonal Mixed Green salad as a starter comprising Shaved fennel, apple, radish with a lemon dressing. It was delicious, accompanied by really good French baguette. For me, really good bread is an indicator. Brenda chose Seared Atlantic Salmon with navy beans, caramelised onions and salsa verde. I decided on a Lamb burger with pickled red onions, harissa sauce, mint-espellete youghurt and mixed greens. The burger was presented as medium rare, and it was cooked to perfection. The salmon was also presented well and Brenda was raving about her dish. And then for me, the piece de resistance, a crème brulee. For those who know me, crème brulee is a particular favourite, and this one was exceptional. The brulee was a perfect combination of caramelisation and thickness, without destroying the crème by being overheated. Stefan who attend to our needs added greatly to the experience. It is wonderful to have someone who understands good food and is an entertaining conversationalist. This only adds to the overall value and experience. So if you were looking for somewhere special to dine in the upper west side of Manhattan, do yourself a favour and visit this small but very high quality establishment at 566 Amsterdam Ave, Manhattan (Between W87th & W88th.) I have been informed that this restaurant is a recent addition to a popular restaurant in Greenwich. I enjoy eating out and very often the food is good, but on this occasion, the food was better than good. It reminded me of dining at Fish la Boissonnerie in Paris which is an exceptional restaurant.

Outstanding French bistro

By RonFG |

Delicious food and good service. What a find! We started with the amazing crab tartine. My wife loved her duck confit and I felt the same about the steak frites. We ended with the Pavlova, on the advice of our server--great suggestion. Highly recommend.

Delicious French food

Good food. Nice ambience. Fast attentive service. I recommend the Nicoase salad the shrimp ceviche and the zucchini flatbread. Fresh ingredients and very tasty.

Delicious!

Great food. Great drinks. Only complaint is that they should not rush so much. Wait for the diners to finish the appetizer before bringing out the entree. Felt rushed.

This review is for the UWS Location!!

By patentesquire |

I did not see UWS new location on TripAdvisor so this is for the new location in the old "B Cafe" spot. This is a nice wine bar. We went to have some wine and light food, the options are good for wine pairing. The nice thing is that you can select any wine from the Per Glass menu (loads of choices) and make your own flight. Prices goes up after 7pm for the flight but it's still not outrageous. Assembled 3 flights as we had 3 of us there, paired with tuna tartare and then 2 of us had duck and I had the Lamb Burger. Everything was good, wine was very good and atmosphere is nice, they still have the same long deep narrow restaurant challenges that B Cafe had when they were there, because there is nothing they can do to expand other than moving or breaking down a side wall. So it's a tight squeeze. Nicely done, only complaint is that it is a little on the more pricey side, should be around 20% less in pricing but it is UWS

UWS wine bar with good food

By PrinceConsort |

This is a very trendy, very loud restaurant/wine bar. It is loud because the dining area is long and narrow, and noise bounces off the walls. We have been here a number of times, and the food has always been excellent. This time our waiter was attentive and quite good. The wine list is very good, and if you are ordering wine by the glass, they have a heavy pour. Very nice. There is also a pretty interesting beer list. Go late if you object to a noisy restaurant.

Very good food and decent wine.

By Ray C |

We were very pleased with the food offerings and enjoyed the happy hour wine flights. The service was great and the pistachio encrusted goat cheese app.was awesome!

Excelent surprise!

By Mariane L |

We didn't like the bar we were at and decided to google the closest restaurant to where we were and it was Amelie. We had a very nice surprise because the place is charming, great food, very nice wine menu and very good service. Next time I'm in NY, I'm definitely coming back.

Found.

Slim cardboard, good beer card. We ordered a piece of cheese, excellent. Meat in point, well prepared. Good service. To avoid trouble, make a reservation.

Great food, wine, ambiance

By Aarti |

Stopped in for a drink. Fantastic atmosphere. Ordered a bottle of wine (excellent) - ordered a cheese and meat to nibble on and it came with so much more - amazing. Everything there was great! Sat at the bar - service was great! Highly recommend - would go back again.

Lovely and great food

Have eaten in the uptown but not the Village branch - downtown is chicer than uptown but the same high quality food and service. And location, location. The food is exceptional

Best birthday experience

By Janeychick |

The food was possibly the best French food. We had a special set meal for valentines evening. The waiters were friendly. Wine was excellent.

Amélie was such a delight to be in

By Mariette J |

Amélie was such a delight to be in. They were very gracious hosts and made sure to suggest the perfect wines with the three course meal we decided upon. My friend and I choose the flight wines. For the appetisers we ordered all five variants of the crostini which was paired with a delicious white wine. And for the entree we ordered the duck confit and the steak both which were sumptuous and paired with two full bodied wines that complimented the dishes very well.

Classy French haven in the middle of Greenwich Village!

By venicethemenace |

Introduced to this place by an NYC foodie and returned here 3 times during my 10 day stay. The atmosphere was wonderful and the service is always perfect. The wine flights for $12 are a great way to start the evening (or late afternoon) accompanied with the escargots, liver mousse and pickles, and of course their amazing pommes frites. You've got to make a trip!

Authentic French lunch, good value, great service

By 749David |

We had lunch an Amelie 2 weeks ago. We shared a Cheese plate and the Chicken sandwich, with a tasting flight of white wines. Good value, great service. It just felt authentic.

Perfect private party

By mountpleasantmom |

We attended a wedding reception at Amelie on Sunday, September 4th. Since it was a private event, the menu was limited to two appetizers, three entrees and two desserts. I tasted all of the offerings and all were superb! First course for all was a salad with a disc of fried brie on top. It was really wonderful and kicked off the meal brilliantly. App choices were shrimp sautéed with peppers and corn and a burrata plate. The shrimp were great but the burrata was simply divine! Incredible. Main course offerings were as follows: Duck, roast chicken or branzino. My selection was the fish, which was served with fingerling potatoes and green beans. I had bites of the chicken and the duck and all were fantastic. Dessert choices were a chocolate mousse and a banana crème brûlée. Both were wonderful, though the bananas kind of were a distraction from the delicious crème brûlée. The champagne and wine offerings were perfect, and the proprietor and the whole staff were welcoming and professional.

French classic in a trendy environment

By Karen & Rob Chiasson |

Delicious experience. Excellent wine list with extensive offerings and reasonable prices. Enjoyed a Saint Julien 2006 which was served at the right temperature. Foie grad was house-made and very flavourful. Amélie salad with truffle vinaigrette was a meal in itself. The boneless trout was cooked to perfection and Almost melted in your mouth. Steak frites perfectly cooked. A definite when in NYC.

Excellent Xmas dinner

By Paris-Kuala-Geneve! |

We just had our Xmas dinner with our teenagers. Nice venue, excellent service, excellent food. A large choice of wine and an extra cheese plate out of the menu for the French Chessex lovers ! We recommend this place !

Amazing food

By lauralety |

Beautiful and romantic venue. Great service. Best wines ever. But the food is ... the best thing. We had the escargots - firm but not a bit chewy, perfection. The filet mignon was juicy, flavorful, delightful. Fresh arugula salad with crunchy apples. Make reservations and enjoy! Can’t wait to go back try more or their menu.

One of the best dining experiences

By KateD2012 |

Came without a reservation for the $12 wine flight happy hour at 5pm on Bastille day. The place was half empty and the managers, Benjamin and Jacques, were able to accommodate us party of 3, but warned us that they needed our table for in an hour and 45 minutes .We were given the menus, it was explained to us and Jacques offered his expertise in helping us choose wines we think we would like. We ended up ordering dinner--the steak frites and the pork chop were both good. The serving is not American size so don't expect a piece of meat dominating the plate. You'll still get an excellent meal, though. A couple, who dines there every week, was seated at our table as we were finishing our meal and we enjoyed a lovely conversation with them. Needless to say, they couldn't recommend the restaurant enough. Jacques gave us champagne on the house to round up our meal. All in all, this is a place that deserves a repeated visits when in the city.

Good food, good service, VERY,VERY LOUD!

By william z |

If you visit this restaurant you had better not have a sore throat as you will have to raise your voice to almost shouting level to carry on a conversation. This must be the vibe they are striving for, hectic, raucous, frenetic (at least the noise level is). Even when ordering you can not use your indoor voice. Aside from the noise this is an extremely casual place that has really good food, prompt and professional service, and a good wine list. Each dish, whether it was the beef tartare to the fish dishes, was nicely prepared and very enjoyable. If they could tone down the volume I'd rate it higher. But hey, they had a big crowd and apparently there are lot of people that enjoy jack hammer level noise while they eat and socialize. i am not sure about the socialize part as I can't see how they hear each other. Oh well.

3 For Dinner

By miragekam |

Excellent zucchini flatbread, followed by red snapper, salad and a small sack of bread which we couldn’t stop eating. The French wine was amazing so was the service.

Not my favorite...

By Blain80 |

I was a bit disappointed with my dining experience. The atmosphere is cramped. They brought everything we ordered out at once (instead of staggered) and placed it all on our tiny table. The had to put our wine flight on a shelf adjacent to the table. It was also extremely loud. Food was good, the creme brûlée was the star. Waiter was nice, we just could not hear much with the acoustics.

A true French bistro

By DLC L |

Good for a real French fare around Washington Square. A small selection of standard French light meals in a quaint surrounding.

Very pleasant dinner

By Linda B |

My sisters and I had a very pleasant dinner, nice wine and great service. Seafood was great, pasta tasty and salads fresh and appetizing. We will visit again!

Amazing food!

By Katie S |

We loved our dinner at Amelie. I highly recommend getting a reservation as their was quite a wait for those that did not have one. Their Tuscan kale salad was delicious, and I'm still thinking about their Coq Au Vin. We will definitely return!

For lovers of French food (and wine)

By missmickey |

This is a buzzy, "happening" place, full of happy young folk having flights of wine, but as francophiles of a certain age we came primarily for the food -- and it was superb! The first evening of our New York weekend we chose Amelie because it was near our apartment, and we had such an excellent duck breast that we returned two nights later and chose the halibut. Both were succulent and came with an assortment of tasty vegetables. We couldn't resist the desserts, of which our favorite was the apple tart -- a huge slice filled with apples and a side of icecream. Highly recommended! An added bonus was staff who spoke French and a relaxed but professional service. Next time we're in New York we plan a return visit to this small but perfect restaurant.

A MUST in NYC - small but great service and GOOD food!

By K J |

Recommend reservations unless you are willing to wait. You can also brush up or speak French with the staff. You gotta go.

Charming Restaurant

By Peter B |

Small, French, wonderful. I had this restaurant on my list of places to go and stumbled upon it on a walk from Washington Square. We were four friends and ready for a late lunch. I asked the server what was the best thing on the menu and he suggested the Trout and Duck leg. I ordered the Trout and it was superb paired with a three glass wine tasting made for a delightful afternoon.

Amazing French food and wine

By Khoi N |

My food friend was eyeing this place and I'm so glad we stopped by. At first I was thinking how does a French restaurant with wine have so many reviews in NY, but Amelie did not disappoint. We ordered the lobster risotto, duck leg confit, octopus and escargot. Plenty of food for 4 people. The risotto was great in texture and had a fair amount of labor. The duck was cooked perfectly. Crispy skin on the outside and fall off the bone meat on the inside. The grilled octopus and escargot are a must order as well. We also had some wine flights which were priced very nicely during happy hour even on a Sunday. Love how they have happy hour even on the weekends. The drink menu is extensive here. Highly recommend making reservations prior to dining here as the seats filled up very quickly. The restaurant ambience is great with all of the wine bottles along the wall. Amelie takes Covid seriously as the entire staff is wearing gloves and masks. Highly recommend this restaurant if you want great food, wine and a place to people watch as well

Friendliest staff and great food

By donnaa80 |

Overall, great vibe for a french café. The folks here are very welcoming and accommodating. They tolerated my weak attempts to speak french with a warm smile. Nice menu and the food we ordered was very good. Nice portions for sharing. I'm a vegetarian and found plenty of choices.

Great charcuterie and cheese table

By Diego M |

Great service and beautiful ambiance , very good and reasonable prices for excellent wines , cheeses and charcuterie . Second time here and more to come ...

Great food and excellent service...but not the place for quiet conversation

By AHL67 |

It probably goes without saying that a wine bar on an almost-the-weekend-evening is not the best choice for a quiet meal, but the noise level in Amelie on the Thursday evening that we stopped in was SO extreme that we nearly turned around in search of somewhere less ear-splitting. I'm glad we didn't, because the food was superb, the service excellent--and we eventually got used to the noise level. We arrived about a half-hour early for our reservation, and despite being busy, they sat us immediately, in a very nice table right by the window. The wine list, not surprisingly, is excellent. The food, likewise, is delightful, and befits the bistro vibe of the restaurant. The salads are inventive, with enough ingredients to be interesting but not so many that the whole thing lapses into incoherence. Our entrees were excellent as well: the steak frites was excellent (and the steak cooked to perfection), and the duck confit was very good. All told, we are glad we stayed, and would happily return!

Dinner out in NYC

By jennifer g |

My friend recommended this place, so we made a reservation for 6:30pm on a Saturday. As we walked in, the restaurant was packed with some people waiting. We were immediately seated in this corner, which was nice considering how tight the seating situation is at this restaurant. We didn’t mind, though. The food and drinks were amazing!!! We each had a flight if white wines (all were delicious and pretty good pours), then shared a few dishes: cheese boats, and some veggie dishes, and pasta. Everything was perfect!! I would typically be bothered by how cramped it was, but the food and drink were well worth the experience! I will definitely be going back.

Tres tres bon restaurant!!

By Nicolas L |

Amélies restaurant on Manhatten was a splendid experience and just what you need if the American fast-food drives you mad! The quality is very good and the french kitchen shows it's best here. The waiters are very observant and deserve every tip given!! The price range is fair and I expected GREAT value for money. I would like to visit the place again to teste the great food and wines!!

Nice French Bistro

By Richard D |

We arrived a little early - about 7.15 PM and lots of tables were open. Service was attentive, everything arrived promptly, chicken liver mousse and duck special were delicious and wines by the glass were tasty.

Eat EArly if you can, but Blew Me Away

By carol v |

More than lived up to positive reviews on Trip Advisor. I will get to two small negatives in a minute, but positive vibes first: I enjoyed the best dessert I EVER at in a restaurant that night at Amelie! I like chocolate, but the lemon based desert (three features within one dessert: lemon curd, citrus salad, and two amazing shortbread cookies blew me away. I wiped the plate clean with my fingers and licked them... Shame on me. Everything else I ordered was perfection also: 6 amazing oysters, and a risotto with octapus that was spot on: tender, tasty and just perfect. Now, the two negatives. Very noisy from 6:30 for about an hour. If I had known, I would have picked 5pm to have dinner. And, they forgot my reservation? After I had reserved three weeks ago, and reconfirmed a week before I came? I had some paranoid thoughts about that; was quite assertive, but the waiter found a place for me after all in a very crowded time. So glad he did!

Wouldn’t change a thing

By Bob D |

It might be billed as a wine bar, but Amelie provided a dining experience that was exactly what I’d want from a high-quality bistro. Food-wise, the meal reflected what I adore about and look for in French cuisine: the preparation and presentation were unfussy, but with an incredible depth and balance of flavor that revealed something new with each bite while remaining subtle enough to elude identification. The salade Lyonnaise and steak aux échalottes were both delicious, with super-fresh greens and meat cooked to a perfect medium-rare; even the baguette was freshly baked. And yes, my accompanying glass of wine hit the spot, too. Service was outstanding. This is a staff that sees solutions rather than problems. “Will that be too much food if I order both the steak and a salad?” - “It’s a pretty big salad but I’ll ask them to make a smaller portion for you.” Super-friendly and they worked well as a team. Venue-wise, cozy but not crowded; mostly pairs and small groups having animated conversations, a few identifiable couples, and a few flying solo like me. Mix of table, high-top, and bar seating. I’d definitely eat here again.

Spot on dinner, service, wines and desert

By ajfeather |

Friendly and lively place to enjoy a meal with a glass or two of wine. The fish we had was cooked to perfection and the deserts were great. NY take on a french bistro done really well...I will return!

Great, affordable fun French Bistro. wine bar

By Gooselator |

Made reservations on Open Table for Friday night on our recent trip to NY. We specifically mede this reservation because of favorable ratings on Trip Advisor. We are not the foodiest of foodies, but we do like to get good value and we love our wine. It was an easy and fast cab ride there from the Renwick Hotel and we arrive right on time and were quickly seated. This is a long and narrow space and tables are close together, but it reminded us of being in Europe. We were seated at 6:45 so we were just in time for getting the happy hour pricing on wine, yea! we each had a flight of three wines for $12 each for good pours. SO had the flight of big-bold reds and I had a lighter red threesome. SO won that bet, but all were very good. We started with a nice order of escargots. SO had Duck Leg confit and I had the steak frites. SO had a big pour of Malbec and I had the Crozes-Hermitage. The whole shebang came to $147.89 with tip. all and all a very good use of hard earned dollars. would come back again in a New York minute

French food on the sidewalk

By Alycia D |

We ate lunch at this restaurant with another couple and were seated outside the restaurant. 8th st was closed for a street fair and there was a singer across the street. The weather and the ambience could not have been more fabulous. My husband had the croquet-madame with mixed greens and really enjoyed it. He said that the texture wasn't too crunchy or too soft. I had the hangar steak salad and my steak was cooked perfectly. We were with two friends who are vegetarian and they enjoyed the gratin de raviolis du royans and the roasted vegetable sandwich. The bread and the pommes frites were also enjoyable. It was a great lunch.

The perfect French experience!

By Ricardo M |

Great food, fair price and excellent service! One of the best nyc restaurants, feel like home as everyone was so nice ! Try the bread with butter, simple and perfect!

Charming

By John B |

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Amelie. The food and service were great. We had the duck and salmon and both were nicely prepared. It is a small restaurant but was comfortable. It was reasonably priced so a very good value and quite French.

Great food and wine

By Mslater65 |

We enjoyed happyhour and dinner at this restaurant. The wine flights were excellent and reasonably priced. We both had Brook Trout as a main course and it was one of the best fish dishes we have ever had, the seasoning and mediterranean sauce were the exquisite. We highly recommend this restaurant for quality, value and service.

Excellent French restaurant without the pretentiousness

By tms215 |

This is just plain good. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. They are set up well for outside dining. The service is friendly and prompt. There is a very good, reasonable wine list. But go for the food. Nothing fancy, no heavy sauces. Simple delicious plates that will fill you up and leave you satisfied. Well worth a visit

Nice ambience, good food

By MaR320 |

We went for a lunch here. We were the first ones to come in. We ordered wine flights (white and Pinot Noir recommedations by the waiters) and a salad and mussels. The wines were nice, especially for the price. Both the Amelie salad and the mussels were exceptional. We decided to have Pavlova and Creme brulee with accompanying sweet wines (Sauternes and Beerenauslese respectively). These were all excellent. All in all a very good food, experience and service.

Good local eatery. Nothing too fancy.

By Edu Travels |

This restaurant is across the street from our hotel. Easy to get in because now they have outdoor seating since COVID. The food is good. Oysters were good. Nightly special with pear salad was excellent. The wine was perfect. I had a chilled pinot noir on a warm evening. Could not have been better. The outdoor fans can be bothersome and the music speaker right next to table is not great so find the right seating for you and your guests. The indoor seating is packed and the music is loud but some people like that. The chemical in the cleaner that they use for cleaning the tables lingered all dinner long. I suggest they get a nontoxic, no smell cleaner.

A Greenwich Village 'must'

By markandsue-84 |

We met friends that live near NYC, this is their favourite restaurant in Greenwich Village. Recommend making a reservation as a busy, small restaurant - even on a Tuesday night. Our table of 4 ordered lots of sharing plates, all were excellent, great service, excellent wine list and tasty food made for a great night out . Very accessible to anyone as only a short walk from the Metro.

The best tiny French place in a whole City

By Gacek |

Food was absolutely fantastic. Rosemary Lemonade wad awesome. Staff were friendly. I’ll back there in a future for sure!

Fantastic food, very reasonable, hip and casual

By jv104 |

I came here last weekend for brunch and had a fabulous time. The escargots and chicken liver mouse were fantastic (I'm not a fan of chicken liver - normally not at least). Presentation, excellent. Importantly, the setting was relaxed, casual, and hip, yet clean and classy. Perfect. Service was also good. Not sure how it is for dinner, but early brunch was not crowded. Everything is also reasonably priced! Enjoy!

Way overcrowded but good

By AlwayInLoveWithItaly |

Amelie's is always-- hopelessly, noisily, annoyingly overcrowded and cramped! But I just love French food and good wine so I'll deal with it. I've only been here a few times so far (last time for my birthday in March 2018) but the mussels were great and my boyfriend's pork chop was delicious (and he is not a fan of French cuisine or eateries.) The staff was pleasant. I plan to return again and again. (Still have to try the pate' and so much more.) Word to the wise though, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO WITHOUT A RESERVATION!

Amelie Porthleven

By Pete E |

Stumbled upon this after a long day setting up to trade at the FoodFest, Olivia was an amazing host, made us feel very welcome and checked on us to make sure all was ok. Highly recommended.

Great atmosphere and fab food

By H-DUFC |

Saw great reviews about Amelie on Trip Advisor so booked online before we left the UK and we weren’t disappointed. Fab relaxed atmosphere completely different from the restaurants in Midtown. Food was really good. The only slight disappointment was the menu online was a bit different from that offered. However there were choices on the menu we both liked. The service was fantastic. Laid back but not sloppy. If back in NYC it would be somewhere I’d definitely eat again.

Lovely New Year’s dinner

By Claire K |

Came here for New Year’s Eve dinner with my boyfriend and had a great experience. We called in advance and although there were no tables available (it’s a small place) there are high top tables by the bar which aren’t reserved so we just came in and sat down. The staff is very friendly and speak both French and English. The food and the wine are amazing and service was very quick even when the entire restaurant is full. We tried the house salad, ravioli, the duck confit, and the chocolate fondant - would recommend all - and a nice white wine. They also give you baguette with your meal which is a bonus. The ambiance is cute but very red and kind of dark. Also small so expect to be squeezed close to other tables. Overall highly recommend - expensive but worth it

A lot of flavor!

By Jose KN |

We found this restaurant via trip advisor, searching for a place close by. We lucked out. Great flavors (steak tartar was delicious, as were the escargots). We also ordered the cheese board, with a mix of Spanish, French and Vermont cheeses - all fantastic. The waiter/owner??recommended a great Cote du Rhone. I really recommend this place.

Adequate Food Quality

By Thomas V |

The food quality was adequate, not especially good or bad. We sat outside, which was nice. But I need to warn customers about their layers of charges. The wine was way up-charged, which seems to be common and we are used to that. But they have a little statement on the menu that there is a 4% surcharge for the use of credit cards. And then when I used a card, the hand-held charge machine gave me an option of a tip that started at 20%. By that time it all seemed too much, so I did not leave happily. Too bad.

Fabulous New Restaurant on the UWS!

By Rose_Kavalier |

Amelie is now on the upper westside (Amsterdam Ave. between 87th & 88th Streets) in addition to the one in the village. It is an unpretentious French bistro, cozy and friendly. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we were given complimentary glasses of champagne (lovely!). We were a party of four and every dish was delicious. We had the escargot, baked Camembert, onion soup, Lyonnaise salad, steak, and duck confit, All delicious! The favorite dessert was the apple tart.

There is now an Amelie on the Upper West Side

By PrinceConsort |

Why Amelie UWS (Amsterdam between 87th and 88th St.) doesn't make it to TripAdvisor is a mystery to me. It has been open for some time. And is very good. A pretty standard bistro menu. Salads were excellent. Black bass main course was quite good but a little overcooked. Wine and beer list was very good, but there could be more of a choice of wines by the glass...after all, this is supposed to be a wine bar! Service was friendly and excellent. A real addition to the UWS. Right next to Pizzeria Sirenetta and Mermaid Inn, close to Bodrum and Celeste. Great neighborhood for dinner.

This review is West Village location...there are two

By Jan_from_Atlanta |

There are two locations.. Upper West Side and West Village. The address is incorrect in this listing. Indeed I dined at the UWS location during Restaurant Week last summer and reviewed my very positive experience. This time we tried the $3O 3-courae Prix fixe lunch..see pic of menu. Was a good value, nice choices, tasty dishes, and excellent service.

Exceptional not to miss option

By Christine G |

We will be back again and again - we just had the most marvelous meal with a scrumptious Rose bottle to boot. The cheese plate is divine with high caliber cheese from an assortment of animal milks. My partner loved the croquettes of the day and escargot. The frisee salad with poached eggs and asparagus were my delicious endeavor. The aioli looked homemade and rich in flavor . Lastly but the most important in this review is the service, the team taking care of us were on top of things, pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable about their menu .They took marvelous care, booked our table for a few weeks out and made the dinner better through their care without ever interrupting. I not only am a huge advocate of theirs but I will regularly return and absolutely use this as a quality restaurant to bring parents to when they visit . Absolutely go - I think you'll be hard pressed not to fall as head over heels as we did!

Nice lunch - great deals on wine!

By BarbH93 |

We very much enjoyed the generous $12.00 flights of wine! We also snacked on delicious charcuterie and great cheese selection. The lobster bisque was so so and the decor is a little tired which is why I only rated it average. I would go again though.

France in NYC

By Allan H |

a little bit of France in Greenwich Village. All the staff spoke French. Excellent service. The food was quite good. Had the grilled octopus, and a burger. All prepared to perfection. Highly recommend We happened to be there Halloween night, and they had a candy dish for the trick or treaters that were dressed up and came by. Nice touch !

Excellent Dining Experience

By Stuart S |

We had heard good things about Amelie, a cozy French restaurant in the Village. We went their for dinner on a recent business trip. we loved the decor and the restaurants vibe. The food and wine were excellent as was the service.

Perfect place for happy hour wine

By Greg |

Came here on a Tuesday night to catch up with some old coworkers in a place that was between all of our offices and where we needed to go later at night. What an amazing surprise just off of Washington Square Park. The happy hour special is really centered around the wine flights you can get for $13 -- which cover three half-glasses of wine. There are eight flights you can choose from to experience a specific type of wine you'd enjoy (for example, there's a flight of just dry white wines, another for full-body reds, and one for even sparkling wines). The happy hour menu also has some good options for food, but the baked camembert with honey and roasted garlic was just amazing. The area was lively, but not too noisy that you couldn't hear the conversation of your group. Just the right place to go to unwind after work and catch up among friends.

a piece of Paris in the city

By kcanavan2010 |

Loved this good quality wine bar and the bistrot food was amazing. They have a great choice of wine by the glass plus flights to choose from. the food is typical Parisian bistrot. the duck confit was very good and so was the salad and chocolate dessert. suggest yo make reservations, the place is tiny and trendy , decor between industrial and the sixties. the waiters are nice, fun and friendly. Prices for NYC are reasonable

Incredible food and service

By Eerika S |

I booked in months in advance as I knew Halloween would be busy. It was our 8th wedding anniversary. Beautiful atmosphere, food, wine, service and very busy. Wonderful experience.

Excellent French bistro

By RonFG |

Our 2nd time here. Noisy, but excellent food and service at a reasonable price. We shared the crispy artichoke and had the duck confit and the scallops for mains. We split the apple tartine for dessert. Our server recommended flights of wine to compliment our meals. Highly recommend.

Someone better than you could be using this table...?

By A4Canada |

It was ok - we were 5 people with a reservation, the food was very nice, although the restaurant is extremely noisy and impossible to hear each other speak. From the moment we arrived they seemed really keen to get us to leave. They pressed us to order, then removed our plates before we had put our forks down, and slapped the bill on the table not even 70 minutes after we sat down. Then they informed us the next guests for the table had arrived, so we needed to leave. Which turned out to not be true. It was very confusing. We made this reservation months in advance for a special trip to NYC, and were disappointed by the entire experience.

very good and great service

Our family of four ate at Ameili on Saturday. the restuarant was crowded at 530 but the servcie was super quick. We had pesto tomatos, ceviche, french onion soup and ahi tuna salad for appetizers. All were great although i would say that the tomatos were very special due to the dressing. For main course, we had chicken, fish special, . both were good. nice to get away from Times Square. Use uber and get away from the tourists. took about 25 minutes on a Saturday night to get to 45th street in time for a 8 pm show.

Charming french bistro

Great atmosphere. Good wine selection. The wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive, even when it got a bit crowded. Plenty of choices for pescatarians. The creme brulee was heaven!

Wine flight -- disappointed

By Reyna Y |

My husband and I enjoy a good glass of wine. Allow me to say I have grown up with wine in my family and visited vineyards during my childhood and adulthood. I am quite the collector and still learning, but even so, I know a good glass of wine and one that has been sitting out too long. If this location is going to promote wine and wine flights, they need to take every effort to serve wine before it goes bad. The bartender/owner's are French and very charming -- but, do not for a second think they won't give you a glass of wine that they need to get rid of. This is wrong and it's offensive. Didn't eat anything but I can tell you that out of two flights (three glasses in each), only two wines were drinkable. I do not recommend the flight. If you enjoy wine, order a bottle and enjoy it the right way.

Amazing food

This place did not disappoint for our first dinner in NYC. We were a bit rushed with our dinner as we had plans but the pork chop was the best I have ever had and the wine flight was perfect. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Great vibe and could've sat here all night.

Great Wine Bar

Amazing deals on wine flights during happy hour! Very busy spot; super popular with locals you should make a reservation! Nice food as well if you want to eat!

Great French Food

Made reservations here. Arrived a little late. No problem. The food is great. Nice menu. Great service. Fun NYC location.

Trendy French feel

During happy hour the restaurant was packed -mostly with young folks. It had a vibrant, positive buzz. The staff were good humored and accommodating and we were quickly seated. The food was enjoyable. I had the lobster bisque and the duck as the main course followed by caramel custard. The Malbec was very nice too. Would recommend if one doesn't mind a bustling, noisy dining scene.

Hip place

By jeanpaul70 |

This small restaurant is very popular on a Sat night- people were still coming in for dinner after 10 pm. We love duck confit and ordered two. Unfortunately it was over cooked and dry tasting and the potatoes were clearly reheated and very tough. The sauce was tasty. We had steak tartar which had much too much sweet relish added that ruined this appetizer. The highlight of the meal was the chocolate fondant which was warm and gooey- delicious.

Piece of France on Upper East Side

This excellent venue was picked for family birthday celebration. Food is delicious here and we tried most of the menu :) duck pate was just 10/10.. highly recommended. Do not skip wine :)

A taste of France in burger’s country

Warm welcome. Great food with French specialties. Amazing wines. What else ? This will become my canteen in every NYC trip.

Lovely cafe

By Rachel X |

This is a small, intimate cafe in Manhattan. It has a wonderful atmosphere in the evening. I tried several dishes I had not tasted before and they were all delightful. The French rose' was amazing and I am happy to say I have found the perfect wine. I would recommend to every couple who visits Manhattan.

French wine at affordable prices

We were quick converts to the charms of Amelie. How could you not? $12 wine flights during happy hours with delicious pate and fresh crostinis. The bar staff were across the wines on offer and on both occasions we visited gave good advice on which wines to try to suit our tastes. We will be back when next in NYC.

Feels like you are stepping into a bar in Paris

This will forever be my favorite wine bar. Go for happy hour Monday-Thursday 5-6pm for wine and cheese. Dinner on a weekend also will not disappoint. A perfect date spot. Small, inmate, and dimly lit. Make a reservation!

Food was good, service terrific, noise was deafening

By WorldTraveler026 |

The food was terrific, and the wait staff oh so kind (and had clearly had it with the party next to me and doing their best to move them along). To say these women were loud would be an understatement. One women literally yelled at the top of her lungs endlessly. Maybe she was drunk but it was only 6pm. I don’t fault the restaurant at all, but I couldn’t get out of there fast enough which was a shame because I wanted to enjoy my meal. I couldn’t. Will I try it again? Maybe?

French Cuisine in NYC

Highly recommend. We ate the trout and the duck and both tasted very well. Awesome. Red wine from Chile and Languedoc completed our dinner for two. And at the end coconut panna cotta. Don't forget the olives as a starter. A nice little restaurant in Greenwich Village.

Sunday Afternoon Visit

Very positive experience. Tasty food, attentive service. Nice, upbeat and friendly atmosphere. We had the liver mousse, Burrata and charcuterie - all excellent.

YUM

By Daa2138 |

To start we ordered the crostini variety, olives, and tuna tartare. The crostinis were delectable - I recommend the mushroom and salmon crostinis the most. The tuna tartare was the star of the night. Fresh and tangy, with a crunch factor from the cucumber and crisps. For entrees I ordered the cod which was incredibly tender and delightful. Excellent flavor. The rabbit leg was cooked well but not as delicious as the cod entree. LOVE this restaurant. Can’t wait to come back.

A little disappointing

By GreatKinbushi |

I read such wonderful reviews of Amelie so maybe my expectations were too high. The food was very good but it was so crowded and the tables were entirely too close together. Our service was decent but while we were there we heard our waiter engage in a very loud argument with a customer (still not entirely sure what that was about but it didn't seem to be about personal business). He also messed up the orders for the two tables next to us. Everything felt very rushed. With so many other places to try I wouldn't return.

Amazing atmosphere, food, and service

We loved this place. We came here on a Thursday evening around 6pm and it was already packed. Make sure to make reservations! We sat at the bar but the atmosphere was so nice it almost didn't matter. Great menu options and everything we had was very tasty. The salmon tartare was VERY delicious. I definitely recommend it and would come back. Also have a great wine line-up.

The Bread is Extraordinary!

By StevenHarrison |

Yes, great baguettes that we had to ask for. Service is actually very nice. Not terribly professional but who cares in today's world? People today don't understand fine service and if you expect it, you're considered a snob. What I really found awful about this restaurant were a few things. Most of all, the price/quality/quantity ratio of food is abysmal. How do you justify 4 scallops for $30 (or was it 32)? Seared, caramelized scallops with a pleasant sauce and some crunchy veggies on a SIX AND A HALF INCH PLATE considered a "large plate" main dish should not even exist unless it's an appetizer! The portion is a joke and only justifies one thing - the price of square footage for real estate. My genital area is larger than the plate on which they served me dinner! THAT IS NOT RIGHT! If you're a wealthy, hip, young NYer who doesn't remember how the food scene used to be in NY, and if you just don't care because you're so stinking rich you can afford to blow over 30 bucks for four scallops, then this place is for you. The other thing that's wrong about this place are the size of the tables. With such small cocktail tables of course you have to serve on six and a half inch plates! I really wanted this restaurant to be better. The food is not exquisite but, at affordable, more deserving prices, it could be relatively acceptable. It's a small, well-done menu and there's something of some quality behind all the madness and slick facade. The bread, however, is superb! Ask for multiple baskets so that you won't leave hungry! Better yet, think twice and don't go unless you want to feel raped after you leave! C'mon NYC! You can do better than this!

Excellent French restaurant in West Village

By hvu2000 |

It’s another beautiful day in NYC and had to write a review for this French restaurant in this West Village area. It’s a small and very cozy restaurant. The foods and services are great! There are tables in the outdoor area. We had Burgundy escargots Gratines for appetizer, followed with Pan seared Brook Trout, Hudson Valley Duck Leg Confit, and Poulet Au Riesling for main courses, and French wine. All were very good as expected. Highly recommended!

You have been warned.

By Judd K |

Awful. Loud, crowded, no service. We walked out before any waiter came by. Glad we left. I was looking forward to have Amelie as my local bistro. I need to keep looking.

Great from start to end!

Friendly and helpful staff, delicious foods and beautiful yet laid-back atmosphere. What more can you ask for? The perfect little spot in Greenwich Village. Everyone in our party of five raved about their meals and wine. I highly recommend this establishment!
