We went mid week before a pre-season NYR game, therefore it was not crowded but it did seem to draw a large after work crowd. The staff was helpful and very nice and the food was very good. There is a large selection of bourbons and it was a great place to hang out!

If this place was on 7th Ave you would never get in. Thankfully it is on 30th b/w 7th and 8th. The staff makes incredible cocktails...if you are into good drinks. Clearly they have a lot of great American Whiskies, but they also have a ton of other options. We come here before every MSG event. We are never disappointed. The owners are great hosts! The food is delicious as well. Try the wings...not your average wings. Beer brined chicken is awesome too! Can't say enough about this place. It's awesome!

My spouse and I enjoyed an early dinner at American Whiskey on a Friday evening in late May 2016. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to Madison Square Garden (MSG), where we were seeing Billy Joel later that night. American Whiskey is located on West 30th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues in the Midtown South/Garment District/Chelsea area. It is a quick walk to MSG, especially if you take a short-cut: after you exit the front entrance of the restaurant, turn left and immediately cut through the parking garage of the building next door, which will lead you close to the steps of the Pennsylvania Plaza side 31st Street entrance at MSG, where you are able to bypass the larger crowds at the main 7th Avenue entrance. American Whiskey is open daily for lunch, dinner, and drinks. The restaurant accepts reservations by telephone, or using the Open Table reservation system. Being able to make a dinner reservation was another reason that we chose American Whiskey, because we thought that trying to find a table at a nearby restaurant as walk-in customers preceding an event at MSG might be difficult. American Whiskey opened in the fall of 2013. The restaurant space covers 6,500 square feet spread over three levels. The street-level space is large; the front half contains a long bar and some tables, while the rear of the street-level floor contains tables in the main dining area. At least three different sets of stairs lead to an upper loft space, which is open to the street-level bar. The loft area offers additional table dining, another bar, and some lounge-type seating. A private room in the basements holds events. Although the restaurant contains many TVs positioned around it, none of them was broadcasting during our visit (perhaps they turn on the TVs only when a New York sporting event occurs). The décor is western rustic roadhouse, with concrete floors, wood bar, wood tables and chairs, and a few stuffed/mounted animal heads hanging on the walls. Chalkboards near the ceiling above the bar back offer a little pictorial on whiskey. American Whiskey boasts a collection of over 375 different whiskey options, although they also serve other kinds of alcoholic beverages including beer and wine. The restaurant serves upscale American comfort food. We shared a few menu items: white corn grits (topped with shrimp butter), one duck duck goose slider (duck confit, duck breast, foie gras butter), one Homer L. Ford slider (fried sweetbread, cole slaw), and tater tots (served with black pepper mayonnaise). The tater tots and the duck slider were particularly tasty. Other menu items that sounded interesting: lamp lollipops, poutine, olives and cheese curds, grilled cheese, and the short rib sandwich. Please note that the items in the sliders section of the menu come one to an order, and they are the size of your standard slider. (For some reason, we expected more than one slider to an order, even though the price seemed quite reasonable for Manhattan!) We are happy with our choice to dine at American Whiskey prior to attending an event at Madison Square Garden. The restaurant serves better-than-average pub food, the service was attentive despite the large crowds, the space is expansive, and the location is ideal.

I learned about this place from @missconciergenyc who gives the best recommendations in NYC … we visited American Whiskey before a Knicks game; super convenient to MSG. Our servers Roxie and Matt were awesome! Matt was very knowledgeable about whiskey and bourbon and made some great suggestions. They have a large selection a whiskey and they have a $8 whiskey of the day on happy hour which works well for a mixed drink. I’d recommend this place if you’re in the area and want to try different whiskeys.

We were looking for a place to geta drink close to penn station. I am SO GLAD we DID. Had a great flight of NYC area whiskey's and some delicious bar food snacks, Will be back

My wife and I went here before a Rangers game. Food was not great. We both had the hot chicken sandwich (because they didn't have my wife's first choice, the short rib sandwich). It was very weird; the hot chicken sandwich came out on plain white bread. Untoasted. Like they pulled it out of the bag and plopped a piece of oversauced chicken on it. (We've been to Hattie B's in Nashville. This ain't that!) Cost, with two beers, was $60, plus tip. Service was good. We split and order of waffle fries.

A sales rep hosted a private party here and it was amazing. The servers walked around making sure we all had drinks and more than not I often was holding two...danger Will Robinson. The atmosphere was great the food was delicious. Try the Hush Puppies! Not sure if these girls were hired separate from the bar, but there were Burlesque style girls with feather fans dancing on the bar. It was amazing!

Wanted a nice night out with the boys to have a whisky & well that's exactly what we got A very friendly bartender who was extremely friendly & very knowledgeable specially with the alcohol they have Turned out to be a great night

No idea what's up with the service at this place...far too many places in the area to choose from to put up with this. No lie, 30 minutes to get a drink. Nobody in the place. Then I have to put up with the hostess's attitude when she's pissed she can't take our menus back. Maybe because I've been there almost an hour and still need them? Yeah, I should have been the one with the attitude. Food was good, but honestly I was so annoyed with the place it didn't matter. Oh, and despite their name and impressive whiskey list, good luck ordering something they actually have on hand.

This spot is whiskey aficionado’s dream, just blocks away from Penn Station! A New York Sour or Old Fashioned done right, there’s no messing around here- you’ll be tempted to drink yourself back to college days. To [slightly] sober up eat their classic burger or butcher steak. Simple in design, memorable in flavor.

They have a unique menu, and great food and drink selection. We arrived earlier than our reservation (group of 7 so that can cause issues) but they easily accommodated us. We sat near the bar which was loud but fun because they have TVs all over so we could all watch football games that were on. I also liked that they put the game audio on but changed to music during commercials. The hostess and servers were very attentive. We were waiting for our train to leave at Penn Station so they allowed us to hang there for a while. The kitchen was a little slow but they were busy because of Sunday football. There is a bit of sticker shock when looking at the food prices but the food was well worth it! Half our group ordered entrees and the rest just ate from the variety of yummy appetizers. The Beer Brined Brick Chicken and tater tots were my personal favorites. The wings and sliders were also loved by the group. We also are beer/whisky lovers so there was no shortage of wonderful and unique drinks to try.

I can't think of a place I've been to watch sports in this city that has it all. Great food, service, drinks, atmosphere, and enough TV's to go around. We had the grilled cheese on rye, lamb lollipops, and grilled chicken (succulent!), all of which were terrific! The snap pea side dish wasn't so good, the skins were sinewy. The whiskey flight was just right to top it all off!

Staff, ownership and service all 10/10. Looking forward to getting back there soon. Some events can be crowded, but try an afternoon visit on a Saturday for great food and bourbon. They can mix any drink here....

We visited American Whiskey at the recommendation of a fellow Pennsylvanian. We were welcomed like we were family by Kirstie, our server and bartender. She recommended that we try cold spell whiskey and it was super. Unavailable in PA. We ordered food that ranged from southern hot wings to oysters to hamburgers to deviled eggs. Everything was very tasty. A quick stop turned into an afternoon of fun. By the time we left, Kirstie was a member of our family, and we'll certainly return when we are in Manhattan.

I came here with a friend on a Friday night after work about 6 pm. It is very loud and crowded at the entrance, near the bar, but there is a semi-separated dining area which is a little quieter, but still kind of crowded (we had to maneuver to sit at our table, which was very awkward, and we had to apologize to the couple sitting next to us). We ordered a few beers and a couple of sliders each (BLT, Pulled Chicken and Beef Brisket - each was good) and the Grilled Brussels Sprouts (amazing) and Tater Tots (to die for!). The service was a little sporadic, with someone either stopping by the table every few minutes or not for 20 minutes. This is a very cool option near Penn Station and I will definitely be back.

Ate here a couple of times, food lovely and lots of. Sliders were delicious! Definitely recommend this place. Staff very friendly and efficient

What a fun and unique place to find in NYC. We haven't been able to eat there yet so I can't comment on their food but their drinks and customer service are always the best! The decor in here is also fun and comforting even down to the plaid shirts the staff wear-I love it! Definitely check this place out!

The menu is not so large, but what they do, they do very well. My fiancé and I each ordered a cheeseburger and we both agree that it was one of the best we've had. It's a great place for a cold beer and a filling meal if you're visiting NYC and find yourself near Madison Square Garden.

Recently went to American Whisky for dinner and drinks before the Luke Bryan concert. It was great! Nice ambiance and good food, they have an extensive Whisky menu and the servers are very knowledgeable about Whisky and bourbon. The food menu is not very extensive but we all found something we enjoyed, I would definitely recommend for drinks and a bite to eat of you are looking for a casual dining spot convenient to MSG. It's a nice change from the typical restaurant bars on 7th avenue, ..try the Whisky sampler if you are so inclined.

Stopped in here with a few colleagues for dinner. The food menu was short, but the drink menu long. The place was quiet, so we were able to talk business without having to yell. I ordered a burger, it was very good. We shared some tator tots, which were also pretty good. The service was mediocre and they were closing and hinting that we should leave by turning on the lights around 10 PM. Even so, the place had a great look and feel and I would return for a drink or two.

My husband and I came for dinner before a NY Rangers game. We ordered the lamb chop appetizer, and split a whole grilled fish and chopped salad to complete the meal. Food was exceptional and fairly priced for midtown Manhattan. Servers Abigail and Courtney were attentive and pleasant. High marks for responsiveness and atmosphere. Will definitely return based on this experience.

The rye whiskey flight was very good. The female bartender asked if we wanted to start a tab, we said yes, she took our card and did not return it. There were two bartenders, and both were at the opposite end of the bar from where we sat. The first bartender didn't come back to check on us. The male bartender made his way to our end of the bar because of another customer came in, but by that point we had to leave. He picked up our credit card which was near the cash register and cashed us out. We always laugh because this was a place that could have made more sales, but we were overlooked. The hipster crowd has to remember that the 50-somethings still have disposable income to spend and we tend to tip better than the younger crowd. Food for thought, people!

I've been here several times on different occasions: working lunch by myself, by myself for NY Rangers hockey games, with colleagues for after work drinks, and most recently for dinner with my sister while she was visiting. There's a female bartender, blonde hair, very moody and not attentive - wouldn't give her any stars. She's served us several times and I don't understand what her deal is; you'd think she'd be happier to work in a cool place where people tip her (heck, I want her gig!!!!!!!!!!!), but I don't want to dwell on that one negative employee and do wish to share why I gave AW a five star rating. Last night my sister, visiting from out of town, and I went there for dinner. We were hungry, wanted something quick and convenient and I suggested AW. Our server was Kaitlin (she'll have to forgive me if I've spelled her wrong, I left the receipt at home when I emptied my pockets this morning...) and I wish I had last night's manager on duty's name, I failed to ask... but these people definitely make visiting AW worthwhile!! THANK YOU!! There was a slight misunderstanding, my sister wanted to take her dinner to go and we waited quite a while to ask for the check b/c we were waiting on the to-go. When we asked Kaitlin about her to-go leftovers, she had to apologize and explain it had been chucked... by accident.. we were not upset by any means, accidents happen, sure she was disappointed because she expressed how she was looking forward to having it later, but honestly, no harm, no foul. We still had great service by Kaitlin and the runners. We knew it was not done with ill-intent; it is a loud place, we really did assume he couldn't hear us.. Not only did the manager come over to apologize, so did the runner and Kaitlin. As a resolution, they decided to just cook the entire dish again and send my sister home with an entire plate of delicious, hot food to go!!!! To say the least, we didn't ask for anything, maybe expected a small discount somewhere or an invitation to come back for a discounted meal - I mean, really, again, no high expectations of anything, but they really, really went out of their way to make it right.... That was extraordinary. This kind of thing NEVER happens in Midtown, Manhattan - it just doesn't unless you're super famous or know somebody or have some kind of influence. Great big thank you to everyone last night, you folks are just amazing, deserve a super-shout-out and you went so far above and beyond than anything we could have ever expected. Also would like to thank the two hostesses, they greeted us with smiles and jokes. With the exception of the bartender, I have always had good service and the food is very well done! Prepared, seasoned and presented quite beautifully. Thank you!!!

Having heard of this place and being a huge fan of whiskey & Bourbon, I was excited to finally go here. To be frank it was disappointing. The selection of booze is impressive. I found it to be very expensive. To be fair, the was no event at MSG and the place was near empty so there was no atmosphere at all. This is a big place, like a cool barn and needs people in it or it feels cold and unwelcoming. You got the feeling that the bartenders did not want to be there ( was it late on a weeknight) and were not friendly or helpful with choosing what to have. There was no consistency with how drinks were served, Maybe if you are a regular you get the nice glass with the nice ice.....Had a few apps, they were tasty. Maybe we had bad luck on the night but I wont be rushing back...

I guess the young crowd likes it dark and noisey but the food did not dsappoint.... and the prices were reasonable. However, difficult to hold a conversation. This place has a good selection on the menu and we grilled cheese sandwiches which were hearty and delicious...it is located a few blocks from Penn Station and perhaps the lunch scene is less mysterious. Bring a small flashlight if yu need to read the menu.

I debated between 3 and 4 stars for this place. The best thing it has going for it is that it is around the corner from Penn Station, so if you have a couple hours of stopover, you can come and eat and drink. The food was really good, and our second round of drinks were very strong. The service, however, was so apathetic that we wondered what was up. I don't need to be fawned over, but when the hostess acts like she doesn't know why we want a table and the bartender won't take our order because that's the server's job (and who knew where she was?), what am I supposed to think? It was not crowded at all, so why treat us like we are imposing?

Convient location the MSG, Penn Station. Very attractive space with trendy decor and multiple types of seating. Three people behind the bar but only one of them seemed to be the person serving drinks. The female behind the bar had no clue what to do. The other man behind the bar might have been training or something...but when I asked for a another round of drinks he just pointed to the other guy...Mixed drink $10 , beer $8. Made the mistake of trying the food ..choose Tater Tot Poutine, Should have realized that would be bad. It was a horrible hot mess of regular tater tots with chicken gravy and cheese curds. really nasty. Grilled cheese sandwich was tasty. The establishment is fairly new so they might be able to work out the issues. They will do OK because the location.

A bit loud with a fun neighborhood wooded decor. A good place to meet friends for drinks and a bite. Staff friendly. We were part of a private event in a upstairs bar area. My guess is the Fire Marshall would not have been happy with the volume of the crowd or the congestion on the staircase. But it was a good space for a private group.

Went here a as group, and the place is pretty nice and not too crowded... however, our service was poor and we kept having to wait for drinks and not getting everything we ordered.

Five of us dropped in for lunch. The place was quite empty. We ordered burgers, salads, sliders and sandwiches. The not-so-cheap items don't include any sides so we added fries. The server - without checking - placed the food in front of the wrong people. The sandwiches were served on large attractive planks. Different order taker and server, no one checked to see how the food was. Had to waive to get more water and drinks. Food must have been just ok as not one of the five finished their not so big sandwiches. No condiments offered. The saddest was to watch the server/busboy stack the planks on the table and use his bare hands to scrape the leftover food together. Gross! Do not recommend for lunch.

So the rally cool part was they way the bartenders craft your cocktail. Our bartender was Brooke, who took excellent care of us. So when I talk about mix craft, I have had Whiskey sours before but here it is actual craft rather than just port some sour mix and bourbon together, the whiskey sour is made with egg white and makes a huge difference in taste. I watched Brooke, roast some rosemary for a drink. They grate cinnamon for drinks, it really was fun to watch them craft a cocktail. BTW they have over a hundred whiskey's ready for your sampling. Brooke said she liked Ryes and pointed me to Angels Envy Rye Rum Cask finished, really wonderful. I also had the Rye sampler which was very good. If you like bourbon neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail this is a must place to visit but lets not forget food. We have several things, first we had the Deviled Eggs, I wasn't a fan however not because of the preparation or really anything other than I am not a fan of Bleu Cheese, and these are crocked full of Bleu Cheese flavor, I wanted to try them and if you like Bleu Cheese, you will love these. So they have Oysters on the menu, first not advertised, Oysters are $1 during Happy Hour Monday trough Friday and happy hour goes until 8 PM. I love oysters, and let me tell you they have their own take on them here so you get your oysters with horseradish, jalapeño mignotnette and their homemade poprocks, yes you read correctly poprocks. Now I was skeptical but it really did had a great quality, as the oysters had a good brine flavor and the poprocks had the sweet, along with horseradish and jalapeño mignotnette. I also added some tabasco. They really were good, I had 5 dozen. My wife had fried cheese curds and house salad both of which were very good. We, yes I still ate more than just oysters, split a hamburger which was very good. So we left there completely satisfied from the bourbon and food perspective. If you like Bourbon or just Oysters, this is a must visit place.

Great place for good food-Large screen TV's around to see hockey, etc.-Not great if u really want to talk to someone-loud and noisy-but ok if conversation is not important!

Wow, what a place. We found this place locally on trip advisor on our last night in NY. I was so glad we found this place. We wanted a bite to eat, a good drink and atmosphere and we wasn't disappointed. The food was food was really good, good tasting, good quality, extensive range of whiskey which was great. I went for the range of whiskey so I could give a few a try. Food menu was light but enough for your average joe. Music was great, good New York style hip hop music which was brilliant and added to to atmosphere. Prices a little steep but it is central NYC. Overall a great place to eat or go for a drink. Only regret was we only found this place on our last night! Highly recommended.

Went for lunch. 1pm on Sunday, not that busy at all. Took 35 minutes to get anything besides a water on our table. The waitress came over and half way through taking our order said "excuse me" and for now apparent reason left for the kitchen. No one could be bothered to help despite eye contact. It took forever to get our drinks. Beyond forever. One of the bartenders appeared to be in training or something and put a straw in the drink as it waited for the waitress to pick it up! The food was good. The lamb popsicles were very good, crab cakes OK. The sliders are very small ( I was told they would be larger) and if you go, I would have them as appetizers. They are $4-7 each and the burger itself is very large and something like $13. The tater tots side was good as well. Finally I wanted a nice whiskey to finish the meal. They have a page of top shelf ones...it took 4 selections before they actually had one listed (and would do nothing on prices) which they had to get from the managers office or something. So I watch the bartender pour it and apparently tell the waitress it is good stuff or something, because she decides to grab a straw and dip it in for a taste.....

If you're catching a game or concert at MSG this is definitely the spot to check out. Great upscale sports/whiskey bar with really good food.

Brought a group of clients for dinner and drinks before a game at Madison Square Garden. Great food and great whiskey list. Great bar atmosphere. Definitely will go back.

What an absolutely awesome and buzzing place. We dropped in here early on a Saturday evening after stumbling across the bar and it was a great surprise. Great whisky cocktails and whisky flights, the wings were hot and there was a load of sport on tv, then came the Georgia Bulldogs game. Found out having chatted to one of the ladies selling Bulldogs t-shirts that it's a Georgia Alumni bar and was greeted by and shook hands with one of the co-owners. Would go back again and again...

Bartender Shannon was a spirits and culinary expert. Friendly, service oriented, professional Bartender. This place is the real deal when visiting NYC. As a beer and wings snob, I was very impressed. After brining, they smoke their wings in house, then deep fry, then coat with original sauces including an Alabama White Sauce courtesy of the Alabama Chef! Whiskey assortment was vast but no worries, as Bartender Shannon will help you choose with expert advice. Watch out for game night at the Garden if you want to communicate. Visit on an off night for the Rangers and Knicks. Very satisfying bar service, chef, food, and whiskey. Hidden gem.

My husband and I enjoyed lunch here on a rare day away from our children and greatly enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed a whiskey flight and I enjoyed a gin-based cocktail, both were excellent. We also tried a selection of foods, which I was very pleasantly surprised by. I highly recommend the chopped salad, which I could have eaten a barrel of, and the surprisingly delicious grilled broccoli with dehydrated cheddar. I love a little cheese with my broccoli but often restaurants drown it in cheese sauce - this was the perfect balance! Very creative. My husband loved the rye corndog and the fried pickles were good - they deep fry gherkins instead of slices; unusual but nice. I recommend this restaurant for a casual experience, particularly if you like a nice drink. The ambiance was pleasant and it was quiet enough to actually have a conversation, which I loved. The prices were very reasonable for NYC. The bartender service was a little slow, but pleasant - the food arrived so fast I was impressed! All in all, a great experience and one I would do again.

My husband loves bourbon so we decided to try this place. It was early on a Friday evening, we walked it and it was packed! It was a large first floor restaurant with a loft. It looked to be that there was a kids birthday party in the loft which we found very odd for a bourbon bar. Anyways, we were able to catch a seat at the bar and they had an extensive menu; i for one am not a bourbon fan so I opted for red wine. The staff was friendly and drinks were great.

Is it a bar, or is it a nice restaurant that serves bar food? When you walk in you think bar with animal heads on the wall and long oak bar down the right side. In contrast, when seated the music is ambient and the vibe is dark and moody. I had to turn the flashlight on my phone to read the menu. Then you finally can look at the menu it is burgers, wings and tater tots. So, what are you? It's confusing. We had burgers, sandwiches and fries which were okay. The bar was full but restaurant seating sparse. Service was fine. With all the options in NYC I can't see myself returning.

At 11 AM on Friday (day after Thanksgiving), I was one of ten persons waiting for American Whiskey to open. The others had used on-line information to plan their visits. I've had some unsatisfactory results from using on-line restaurant data so I telephoned. I was told that "normal business hours were in effect, opening at 11AM on Friday." My party of four was the last to leave at 11:10 --the restaurant was not open.

If you like hard to find whiskeys, delicious beer and savory food with a Rustic Twist, this is your place. The Owners of American Whiskey have ensured that the food, service and drinks all exceed the patrons' expectations.

I was looking for a dinner spot before a Knicks game and was looking for something different than Keens or Nick & Stef's. what a found was an excellent diversion at American Whiskey. the lollipop lamb chop appetizer on the web site sold me. we were 3 and orders (2) lamb chops and the fried oysters for apps. we had a slider assortment including Duck,Duck, Goose, the Pulled chicken and the Lamb burger. for the main course, we all went for the Short rib sandwich with jalapenos. all were excellent. did not explore the bar on this trip but the cocktail and whiskey offerings were both deep and enticing. settle for Shocktop and some IPAs. TVs everywhere with bowl games and BPL football made the time fly. found the wait staff knowledgable and attentive (which is the only knock i saw in other reviews). we got there at 5 (30% full); left for MSG at 7 (95% full - this could explain service issues - we hit them at a great time) and were in our seats at 7:15. will definitely be back - likely a hopping spot post-game as well.

Recently visited this bar on game day and it was PACKED! It is very hot in this bar so plan accordingly! The wings were good, they tasted like they were grilled instead of fried. It was really cool to see all of the UGA alumni in one place. Definitely a must stop for any SEC fan!

We were introduced to American Whiskey on a recent trip to visit relatives in NYC. We are told it is normally packed in the evening but during the 4th of July week it was easily accessible. Very informal. Good service and pretty good food, plus a good selection of beers and especially Whiskeys. We enjoyed their deviled eggs and fried pickles, and our other food selections ranged from a chopped salad with tuna, to a braised short rib sandwich and sweet potato fries, and a burger. Would go again because the food was good and prices reasonable.

interesting and well delivered menu - wonderful staff - nice ambiance - from the minute we arrived for a business meeting they were nothing but professional

We went here to watch the Sunday football games. Many TV screens and different types of beer. Atmosphere is okay. The meals were okay as well. Convenience food - nothing special. Prices are still okay for the location of the bar.

We stopped in for a bite to eat after a full day of business and site-seeing. Good whiskey selection and simple but elegant and unpretentious small plates and burgers. I was traveling with family and all four of us enjoyed the food, service and ambiance.

I got here after 10pm one night after a long train ride. We were warmly welcomed by the bartender even though she was very busy. The place was nice with plenty of TVs to watch the hockey game. I tried one of the fancy whiskey drinks and my husband tried one of the whiskey flights. The bartender was very knowledgable. We also had the chicken wings which were very good too. I recommend this place even if you aren't a whiskey fan. Very close to Madison Square Garden.

Met some old friends for drinks on a weeknight. Place was lively and crowded. Started at the bar - was a little tough to get the attention of the bar tenders but once we got it, mall was good. Moved to a table - had high tops and regular tables. The waitress was attentive. Whiskey selection was very deep - had a good old fashioned and a couple of good ryes. The food was so so. Wings were the usual buffalo, tried the eggplant meatballs - meh, burgers were ok. Nothing special as far as the food we sampled. Summary- good place to meet for drinks especially if a whiskey drinker, but if want a dining experience wouldn’t be a top choice.

Excellent whiskey selection but overpriced. $26 for four 2oz pours. Still, the whiskey was very good. Food was very good but portioned small (macaroni and cheese) and the service was unremarkable though the hostess this Saturday afternoon was friendly and approachable. Seated in the rear with a fairly large group of clueless young parents who thought it wise to bring their infants and toddlers with them to a whiskey room. I have four kids of my own, including two toddlers. I leave them at home when going to an adult place like this. These parents allowed the toddlers to run all over the place and ruin other patrons’ experience. Oblivious. Unsurprising. Not the restaurant’s fault per se but no one asked the parents to control their wayward kids. No rush to return. Worth a stop if you’re in the area not worth a special trip

We chose this restaurant because of it's close proximity to Madison Square Garden for an early dinner before a Knicks game. We were not impressed. After having great experiences at other restaurants this one was nothing special. They have a unique bar offering if that's what you're into.

There is only one hostess! A line formed with a mix of people with and without reservations, which we had! The hostess was overwhelmed looking for seating and bringing guests without reservations to their tables. By the time she reached us she was out of menus. She told us that our table was occupied and that "they were almost done". We asked to be seated at any available table because we had a limited time before our event. We were seated in the back near the rest room. The wine we ordered was unavailable, the poutine would not be available for another 30 minutes! Overall, the food was good, but the experience told us that this would be our last visit.

We visited this bar on a Thursday night for a few drinks and snacks. We arrived just before six and it was very crowded! We headed up to the loft, which was a cool space with a smaller bar. The bartender up there was really great - nonstop the whole time, making cocktails and drinks by himself and efficiently without ever once seeming flustered or rude. We ordered the Tater tots, wings, and brisket sliders for the group. All of the food was cooked really well - everyone enjoyed it very much.

Went with 3 college buddies for dinner. We hung out at the bar for a bourbon and beer combo. Excellent spot, especially for 25-35 year olds, dressed casually but tastefully. We are a bit past that, but still enjoyed the drinks and watching college hoops. It is a good looking place, with dark wood interior, high ceilings, very clean. The food was just ok. If the best dish is the tater tots, then you know there is work to do with the kitchen. The wings were very good, but at $14 for 8, it is way too pricey. The 1/2 rack of ribs were huge, but the meat was very dry. My friends had burgers which they thought was decent. The side of kale slaw was very good, but the portion tiny. It is a limited menu, so there aren't many other options. No dessert. I would go there for drinks before a game at the garden, but not much more beyond that. The place has potential as the staff is very nice, but we actually go our appetizers at the same time as our main course. ugghhh.

We showed up early for the UGA vs USC game, as we were told the bar got full. We were the first ones there. We grabbed a seat dead center at the bar, and as the drinks went down and time passed... I am so glad we got there when we did!! The place was rammed! I have never had so much fun with my fellow Dawgs. I would even go as far as to say, it's as good if not better than being in Athens.

American Whiskey is unlike most NYC whiskey bars. While the selection is eminence, be forewarned that this place gets increadbly packed, to the point it's bothersome. Serving meals such as venison burgers and various cuts of boar, it's nice that NYC finally has a place serving something different. The Location: Not in the best of locations, although it is convenient to Madison Square Garden and we'll as Moynihan Station. The Place: Decorated out of reclaimed barn wood, the place is definitely to be admired. While there are a ton of seats and standing space, by 6pm this place becomes so packed, it's nearly impossible to hold a conversation. The Food: Taste is excellent but be forewarned, it is insanely expensive. Staff: Quick, but too overwhelmed by the crowds to hold any sort of conversation.

Came here before a concert, food is okay but I thought not many choices on the menu. Husband has the Braised short ribs sandwich which was very good and I had a salad. Seems to be a great place for whiskey (which I don't drink) Close to Madison Square Garden and was not crowded when we were there.

Visited on a Saturday night before a concert at Madison Sq. Garden with a large party. We had reservations and were seated two hours before the concert. Drinks were promptly ordered. We informed our waitress of our concert time and she took our food orders about 25 minutes after we arrived. It took over an hour for the food to arrive after that. Others that had been seated near us received their food ahead of us. In fact, most of the restaurant had eaten and left by the time we were done. Some members of our party were late to their venue. We almost didn't make it to MSG and we were a block away! Terrible service from the kitchen, and the food didn't live up to it's interest.

Stopped in this place because it was near our hotel. I am not into whiskey, but if you are, you will love this place. The food was cool and not typical. I had a falafel slider with tater tots. Warning: they give you a big basket of tots. It should be shared. My husband had a burger that was tasty. What really knocked our socks off was the ketchup, Sir Kensington's. My husband had never had REAL ketchup. This is not Heinz with high fructose corn syrup. I tasted real ketchup when my mom made it one summer from the garden. If you have only ever had Heinz and the like, you have never tasted real ketchup. Stop here, order the tots to share and enjoy real ketchup.

Stopped in w/o reservation at 4:30 on a Thursday for a farewell shindig with about 15 peeps. Enjoyed the cove areas that allow you to have a semi private area for larger groups. There was one server for the group and she was prompt for drinks, cocktails took the longest, which were to be expected. Had the chips & guac which I enjoyed and didn't try the wings. Had original hot wings and then the bama white sauce...which those that tried couldn't quite place the flavor...it wasn't a crowd favorite. I'm sure if I drank whiskey, this place would be higher on my list.

Went at lunch on November 26th. They had just opened. Food was great. Good selection of whiskey but obvious bartender didn't want to be there. Lowest tip I have left in some time.

Met an old co-worker one night for a quick dinner. We chose this as it was near Penn Station and we could hop a train home easily. The food was perfectly fine but I wouldn't be writing home about it. It took a long time to get a simple, non-alcoholic drink as opposed to draught beer that came quickly. It seemed like since we weren't one of the large groups spending a lot of money for a game night out we weren't the top priority on the server's list. Maybe it would have been a different experience if it weren't a game night but the nothign special food combined with not great service pretty much means I won't be going back to American Whiskey.

When was the last time you were in a "restaurant " in manhatten and upon being seated your server says " We are out of Wings and French Fries" ummmm ok ... we're here for dinnner and although the menu is limited we will find something. The purpose of this choice was proximity to MSG for a Paul McCartney show. So now we order.. or try to.. Out of multiple craft beers.... the only Sav Blanc on the menu.. out of stock... Let's try the rib eye... after 20 minutes our sever returned to let us know the steak was no longer available... At this point I was waiting for Alan Funt to approach us with a mic and say Smile .. your on Candid Camera. We share a couple of fried style apps and a had two round of drinks... Asked for the check and hightailed it out... Never again.. what a bizzare experience.

Great location, great food and alcohol selection. Nicely decorated. Close to MSG. For me I went after work met with my Dad & Brother to catch up.

One of the better choices near Penn Station / Madison Square Garden. The cocktails are probably more interesting than the food. The food menu attempts to be a little more creative than it actually delivers. The tater tot poutine is an interesting plate in Manhattan. If it was served in Montreal, it would be a disappointment. The duck slider was tasty. The service is good early in the evening. The room seems to get noisy later, when the crowd arrives.

We went in for the bourbon- so so good! Did a flight and had some burgers. The wings were delicious! Nice and smoky, but crispy too!! We asked for the “secret to how they were prepared” and the Suever was happy to give us a nice overview so we can try at home. So great! Would go again, especially if seeing something at the garden.

Mediocre cocktails and service with a nice ambiance and better than average food. They have a nice big selection of whiskey as befits the name and many cocktails, but the ones we had were just ok. They started way too strong and quickly became watered down due to the incredible amount of ice. The service was fantastic from one waiter and among the most negligent and ambivalent from the other. I was literally walked away from in the middle of my food, and then again drink order. The beer selection is large, but nothing really sticks out as unique or much beyond the typical Sam Adams and Goose Island. The wings were good but a bit vinegary from the hot sauce and the duck sliders were excellent but you only get one in an order. Very cool ambiance with animal heads and a loft for larger parties.

We showed up around 6p at the height of post work happy hour. The place was packed and it seemed the bartender was willfully ignoring us. They were very busy. We had a reservation and were seated a bit early. The service was pretty bad, our waitress showed up maybe once every 30 minutes. Our beer glasses were more empty than full. The wings, sliders, and fries were good. The pork lollipops were horribly overpriced. The sliders were expense too. For how expensive the food was, the portions were small and not really worth their ridiculous prices. They had a reasonably good beer selection, not much on tap, but a nice varied can and bottle selection.

What a great spot for dinner and drinks before heading to MSG (about 3 minutes away). Great vibe, friendly servers who can help navigate the very large cocktail menu. The food menu isn't huge but the options are solid. Had a fantastic burger and the tots are a must have. Would definitely go back.

Probably one of the best margaritas I've had! Lollipop lamb, blackened shrimp, short rib sandwich, steak tartar, brussel sprouts and mixed greens all awesome:)

I was excited to visit American Whiskey. I was going with clients so I knew I could expense it (within reason). I arrived first and flipped through the book. Big selection and mostly the prices were reasonable. I get to the BTAC selection. Prices reasonable so I order 5 pours each of WLW, Saz18 and GTS. The waitress leaves for ten to fifteen minutes before coming back saying they are out of all of them and they only have that Handy. I love Handy but it’s not worth the same as the other three but I still order a round. She also didn’t know which vintage, because the profile has varied dramatically from year to year. On the way to the restroom I run into one of the managers and express my frustration that several of the whiskies I ordered were still listed on the menu. He said it costs too much money to update the menu and that they get BTAC every year so they don’t cross them out or reprint them. I’m thinking to myself.... How much could 100 pieces of printed paper cost? It’s gotta be less than the single round of drinks I ordered first. And they lost 15 minutes of time where I could have ordered again. One round of printing would have been paid for by just me and the extra round of 6x $40 THH’s I bought. The waitstaff was extremely uninformed about most of the whiskey. The management didn’t seem to care about the patrons or the whiskey. On the positive note, they do have a pretty decent collection and the prices aren’t crazy. Another pet peeve though... they have several pages that they will do 1oz pours but they refuse to do 1oz pours with others. I even asked to split them for my 6 people but wouldn’t. The bartender didn’t seem to get it. Painful. Here’s a place with so much potential, decent selection, fair prices, but they fail on so many levels, largely due to laziness. They need to invest in the staff’s knowledge; they need to make the staff care about the customers; they need to have a proper inventory system so time isn’t wasted looking for whisky that no longer exists; they need to update their menus so customers don’t get frustrated (5 of the first 6 things I ordered were gone); they need to let all whiskies do 1oz pours and they need to find a way to make me come back. If I were an owner or manager I would want all these things fixed quickly and the best part is that none of these are insurmountable. It’s a big shame. I’m happy to provide consulting services to them if they want. They are leaving so much money on the table... I struggled whether to give this place two or three stars. The food was ok but not great, the service was pretty bad, the pricing was decent, the selection was very good but the extreme frustration I had with the menu, poor inventory control and the vast amount of time I wasted waiting for rounds after rounds because they were searching for whiskies that they didn’t know they were out of stock makes me go to a two star rating. I’d do 2.5 if I could but two is fine. Management should take a trip to Jack Rose in DC to see how they should operate their business.

Good stop if your heading to MSG for an event. The food is pretty good and the ambiance of the restaurant was great

After taking a walking tour near Madison Square Garden, we sought out this place for a beverage only but ended up grabbing the toasted cheese sandwich with bacon and some fries as a light lunch. The old fashioned with Larceny bourbon was made on the sweet side the way I like it, and the ambience at midafternoon was relatively quiet and relaxing. American Whiskey at that hour was a nice departure from the typical sports bar.

I had made a reservation for a nice table well over a month in advance. We we rushed, not welcomed, to a really crammed tiny table in a corner. The waitress was not friendly at all and the food was barely average. For the price of the food it could have been better quality. Not recommended.

Don't expect to find anything else but a selection of whiskeys. Nothing else besides water. Food is really average. Very disappointing. Bar or table, your choice. It is a noisy place. Place is clean though.

My hubby and I came after the game at MSG it’s literally around the corner. Cool vibe fun place for sure. Had a few drinks and the bourbon flight. Service was not fast for sure but we Would come back

Great apps, lamb, ribs poutine, worth coming back for. But the flights and Manhattan's were stellar. Great spot before MSG event. But I will bring clients back here anytime

Food is delicious, and of course the selection of whiskey is incredible. It can get a little loud up front, but the dining area is located further back which helps. Will certainly be back.

Great atmosphere, attentive friendly staff, great place to meet up, didn't eat but food looked amazing! Round the corner from MSG.

Cold beer, good selection of bourbons, and bevs. Typical NY attitude and prices. They 86'd the ribs (it wasn't even that late), so we boogied. It was on a Monday night, so we just assumed the employees were still tired from the weekend, or maybe they wished they could have watched Clemson beat Alabama instead. Would have loved to try some of Pappy's Whiskey! ($200 for a 2-oz glass)

Came in from on the High Line. Didn't know much about the bar since we were from out of town. Greeted immediately by hostess as we wondered if New England Patriots fans would be welcome. She laughed, looked at the owner, who said he was an Atlanta fan, and they both walked us to a huge screen in the back so we could view the game. Ordered beer, bloody mary, wings and sliders. Everything was delicious. But the crowd was great. Was told a huge Philadelphia Eagles following comes every Sunday, but there were lots of other football fans there, too. And everybody was cordial and having a good time. Really a fun spot. Very reasonably priced, too. Highly recommend it.

We stopped in here on a rainy Friday. Ordered 6 oysters for $6 and they were so tasty- even had unsweetened pop rocks for a bit of crunch! Extensive drink menu and everything we tried was good, included the frozen whiskey slush of the day.

Came here for drinks after work one day. They had a very nice grapefruit froze as part of their happy hour menu. All of my friends who ordered food were pleased with what they got. I would go back.

I had two hours to kill after my convention and before my train home. I Googled "best food near Penn Station", and American Whiskey popped up. They had me at "Whiskey". I sat at the bar and enjoyed a late afternoon cocktail (old fashioned) and light supper (soup and grilled cheese). Everything was excellent - food, beverage, service and overall vibe. I almost wish my train had been late. Recommended.

American Whiskey is one of the best places for watching a game and meeting friends in NYC. As the alumni bar for the University of Georgia, it can be action packed on game days during the fall. It has an excellent selection of cocktails, whiskey and beer (Emphasis on the whiskey), and its one of the only places in the city (if not the country) where you have flights of Pappy 10, 20 and 23. Be sure to try the food as well.

the food here is good. But there are like 5 things on the menu. If you are the in the mood for actual food and not New York over hip I would go else where. Now if you are just in the mood for some random food to go with very nice whiskey, this is the place for you.

We hosted our daughter and son in lawless.wedding reception at American Whiskey in NYC. The staff was outstanding in helping plan the menu and staying within budget. The food was incredibly good. The guests raved about how amazing everything was! There was plenty of food all evening, as one plate was emptying another was brought out. The staff was fantastic taking care of every detail. We brought in a DJ and danced the night away.. When an outside bakery "forgot" to bake the cake for the sweet table, the staff at American Whiskey came to the rescue! I would highly recommend this location for hosting special events! A special thanks to Roger for all his hard work. As we left for the evening the bar was still hopping. Looked like everyone was have a great time. Can't say enough about how tasty the food is!

I was in NYC for a workshop staying at a hotel just a bit farther up 30th Street. I wanted a place I could get a decent drink and dinner and American Whiskey popped up on my map. I arrived around 6:15pm on a Thursday night and was immediately seated at a table for one. I had originally planned to sit at the bar and eat, but there was a very large crowd for happy hour. I was seated in the back but I will say it remained extremely loud throughout the meal due to the acoustics. Do not come here if you want to have a decent conversation or a romantic night out. I ordered a drink off their original cocktail menu, the Miracle of '86, and I have to say it was one of the best, most unusual cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the burger with cheddar cheese and crinkle cut fries. The burger was good (it was cooked to order - medium) but not great. The fries tasted like frozen fries and were completely unseasoned, leaving a lot to be desired. My meal cost about $45 including tip. Overall, this was a convenient place to stop for dinner. I might recommend just stopping by for a drink because you own't be disappointed with what you pick!

During the holiday season, they have a one page menu with a fairly limited selection of food. Everything we did order was excellent, no complaints on quality or taste...variety was just very limited and a little pricey for what it was, even by NYC standards. Told it was a small menu for the whole holiday season so my next trip will hopefully include this place. Server was great and actually knew the taste of the whiskeys I was trying...and I agreed with her 100% after tasting both. Nice selection to try and they offer both 1 and 2 ounce servings; also have a few flights set up to compare ingredients and other various ways of making whiskeys - nice touch for the unfamiliar to try and compare. Also appreciate how the servers worked together as a team. Atmosphere was great with decor that was simple. Family of four with two kids under 13 were all comfortable there - this is a giant bar with tables around (bar height tables of course) but done so well that you won't feel out of place or awkward having kids in there.

I was told this place was awesome and we were looking forward to visiting. Sadly this experience was ruined by the manager, who seemed to have more ego than brains. He was dismissive when we pointed out our dirty table and condescending when we mentioned our order was incorrect, offering no apology and making us wait an additional 30 minutes for the correct dish. Moreover, his rudeness extended to his staff, whom he berated in front of customers, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. This poor management overshadowed the food quality and ruined our dining experience. I cannot recommend this bar until these issues are addressed.

I was invited to a March Madness vendor (Imperva, FireEye, CyberArk, WhiteHat) sponsored event. The drinks and food were excellent. They served smoked salmon, ham, cheese, bread and mini burgers. All the food were fresh. I would come back here again to try out their dinner menu. The waitresses were very friendly and courteous.

We decided to come here for dinner before seeing a movie on a Friday night. I made reservations through OpenTable and they sat us right away in a nice spot towards the back corner. The bar is very long and there were a lot of people, but you couldn't hear them where we were, which was nice. Our waitress was sweet and patient since two of our members were running late. I got the burger with crinkle cut fries, we got the small venison burger, tater tots and the ribs. We all loved our burgers and the fries were very tasty and nicely salted. My friend liked the ribs, but said it was hard to cut through. The checks were all done on a tablet, which was convenient for saving time and we could all easily split the check. Overall, nice atmosphere, good food and good service.

The menu is fairly narrow, but what they offer is great. I had the bass with asparagus and it was delicious! My friend had a burger that she raved about. For dessert we each had a tasty flight of American bourbons. A great end to a great meal!

American Whiskey offers a nice hangout in Midtown. I had a business event there, but I have wanted to visit for a while now. The whiskey offerings are really nice. The servers, staff, and bartenders all work very hard and are quite nice. The food is nice too. I only had some of the bar snacks for our event, so I can't comment on the normal menu. My biggest problem is this place is so noisy and crowded. I enjoy whiskey more in a quiet relaxed setting. It was hard to carry on any conversation. Wading through the crowd was a bit of a headache too. Not to begrudge them for being popular, but I wouldn't want a future patron to expect anything less than a packed house. The second issue is the cost. I had an old fashioned, but it was $14. That's a lot for a shot of jim beam, bitters, sugar, and orange peel. No doubt it was a fantastic old fashioned, but I could get a bottle of bourbon for 2 of those drinks. This has more to do with being a Midtown bar, but still.

Great bites to go along with the wide variety of whiskeys. Ask your server or bartender for suggestions. Lots of good and rare whiskies available.

We were excited to visit this restaurant as they offer an extensive bourbon and whiskey menu (and great cocktails). This gets a 5 out of 5 and did not disappoint. We just ordered some well priced appetizers. Fun munchies for a cocktail night. The average rating is for service. When we arrived there were plenty of tables but because we were not having dinner, just flights, the hostess had to check if we could have a table. She came back and seated us (no one else was seated all night). The waitress was okay but wasn't very attentive. My husband saw her leaving fpr the night shortly after. Another waitress came over and she was fantastic. I would defintely go back for cocktails and apps but hope the few service kinks we experienced are worked out.

My friend and I were there around noon on Monday for drinks and snacks. Great looking bar, lots of wood, very cozy. I'm a bourbon drinker and wanted to try something different than my usual Woodford Reserve or Angels Envy. The bar has a tremendous selection of Bourbons. The bartender Tracy asked me a few questions about what I like and then suggested two that I might like to try. One was good and the other was very, very good. She made my friend a terrific Mint Julep and we shared something called Passing the Pillars of Hercules, Falafel, hummus eggplant with chips and really good deviled eggs. This would be a great place to go to before or after a Ranger or Knick game being so close to The Garden. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back

We went to a large party here expecting to only have a couple of drinks (over 300 whiskeys!) and were amazed by the food! Lamb kebobs, tater tots with aioli, burger sliders and more were each very good. We stayed for dinner too - brussel sprouts were surprisingly delicious. The staff were VERY friendly and helpful. They were packed and the staff was still not only friendly, but very efficient and we didn't wait very long for drinks or our food. This was a great place!! Just around the corner from Penn Station and The Garden.

Food was good. Service was good. Drinks were good. Prices were on par with manhattan. The cocktails were fun and unique. Food was big.

The bar area and restaurant had a good atmosphere, the food was great but the menu did need explaining. It was very dark in there.
Disappointing New Year
My partner and I came here for New Years, it was advertised as Chelsea loft party. I believe there was a rooftop but it wasn't open. We did VIP and were seated by the door which was freezing. On the plus side the measures were large and the music was ok.
