From the martini to the odd yogurt flan, the food was superb. I had one of the imported Greek fish dishes, perfectly cooked, fresh, tasty. And the side of spinach was perfect.

Fresh seafood, with display of daily catch. Beautiful room, convenient location (right next to Grand Central), friendly service. Good all around.

Best fish in NYC.. the decor is a little strange but the hostesses are breathtaking ( so that compensates). I had sardines and then red snapper..really excellent.. but....they should offer a boneless sardine option since it’s not cool to be seen picking fish bones from your teeth whilst making a pitch to clients. Fortunately I was with super cool internal colleagues. I tried to order a really simple side dish.. not possible. And im referring to boiled potatoes or white rice.. always suspicious when a restaurant does not have a basic side dish. All in all the beautiful staff, attentive service and great snapper earns it a solid 4 stars.

Went for lunch with some colleagues. Very busy and somewhat noisy. We had a few appetizers which were wonderful. The grilled calamari, and the saganaki were delicous. A bit pricy but worth it.

We came to Ammos Estiatorio as we were on our way to a theatre production and we thought that we would have dinner here. We were actually seated immediately and the service was very good, as they do get a lot of people coming in either before or after the Broadway shows. If you are looking for seafood, Ammos Estiatorio has quite a selection. Naturally, we ordered saganaki since we were in a Greek restaurant. We were eating off of the pre/post theatre menu, so we ordered the solomos which is marinated seared Scottish salmon in a lemon & fennel seed broth served over yogurt beet salad. For our dessert, we had the karidopita which is walnut cake with cinammon honey syrup and fig ice-cream

The octopus was very good. The lamb was very tender. Desserts were very good. The room upstairs was amazing. Felt like I was in Napa

The food quality is good, particularly the fresh fish...but watch out for the pricing. We ordered fish from the fresh fish platter, they serve it very plane....BUT, when we got our bill, one of them was $73 and the other $67. The dorado was a very resonable $34. When you really look at the menu the pricing says it is by the pound. Come on, who is eating 2 pounds of fish. And, it doesn't even include sides. There are a lot better options for this price!

Went to Ammos for an early Saturday night dinner. Warmly greeted and seated at a very comfortable banquette for 4. Waiter gave us menus and waited till entire party seated before bringing over fresh fish to show us options. Great choices.....for one person or 2 to share. Took our dinner and drink orders. The appetizers arrived before our drinks. Excellent crab cakes and stuffed leaves. Drinks a nice size. Fish was 50% off. Delicious sole and white snapper. Ordered 2 sides for table because there was no side for the fish dish. We shared the baklava and Walnut cake desserts. The meal including 7 drinks came to $300.00 without a tip. The food prices are competitive with other midtown restaurants. The quality of food and service was a nice surprise. The location near grand central terminal is terrific. It is a beautiful room. Would definitely return.

We chose this restaurant after walking by it. Very nice atmosphere and although some reviews comment about high prices, you can get the pre theatre fixed price menu for $42 and the food was great. The portions were adequate although we expected they might be smaller than normal menu but certainly were not.

Went to Ammos Estiatorio recently with my wife and friends - a party of five - for lunch. We chose the restaurant due to it's close proximity to Grand Central Station and the excellent reviews. Glad we did. The restaurant is quite beautiful inside - a lovely and serine place to dine. Service was outstanding - everyone we encountered: hostess, waiter, busboy and others - all professional and friendly. Service was spot on. Really nice menu with some great specials. We loved the chilled cucumber mint soup. All of our meals were greta - stand outs were the octopus appetizer and the lamb burger. All of the seafood dishes were wonderfully prepared.

Tasty food, good service if not a bit rushed.... but very expensive so expect that if you decide to go..... Try the Brazola Steak wow very tasty.... I had lemon potatoes to go with it, well when I say potatoes I mean 1 large potato sliced long ways for the $11 😳, Don’t get me wrong we had a few vodkas with the meal, good experience but not worth the $240 bill.......

This was the best, most authentic meal we've had since we landed in the US. The whole snapper was fresh and delicious with a great smoky barbecued taste. Also recommend the zucchini balls and baklava. The service was excellent - friendly and informative. The Greek radio was a bit loud, but perhaps we just need to harden up :) Oh. And the Greek chardonnay was lovely. We will definitely come back. Thanks!

The service was good, the decor is nice but the food was ok. The spanakopita was subpar especially the dough was soggy. The calamari was chewy. The salmon was good. Not sure I would recommend it.

I've dined at Ammos several times over the past few years and it never disappoints. I went there recently with friends and had a wonderful meal - I especially recommend the zucchini chips, the saganaki, the fish and the baklava. Our waitress was very pleasant and didn't rush us at all.

We had dinner here recently with friends. It's a pretty restaurant and the service was very attentive. Our table shared a plate of Greek-style dips which were good. But I was shocked to find that when we asked for extra pita bread, we were charged for it. I had a good lamb shank served on tomato sauced orzo. My husband's moussaka seemed to have a lot of sour cream and very little ground beef. Our friends shared a fried shrimp appetizer, a Greek salad, and an order of spanakopita, all of which they liked. Each couple split an order of baklava. The slices were large, but the dessert wasn't quite what I was expecting. Perhaps there was less honey? It was served with a delicious fig ice cream. The iced tea was very good, and our server offered refills without our having to ask.

Not sure whether it was the holiday season which made the service uncaring, removed, and the food mediocre, but it certainly didn't live up to the standards we have been previously used to at this generally reliable NYC restaurant. Right from the greeting, which was completely impersonal, through the service, where the waiter kept looking away, to the lamb chops, which were overdone, and almost burned, (had ordered medium-rare), it was one failure after another. Have previously had some good meals here so this might be a blip. But any restaurant can unleash overwhelming service when slow, the mark of a good restaurant is when it pulls off its best when its busy too. Something to watch out for.

Our first night in New York and we were with friends looking for a nice place to dine. Glad we found this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, great service and delicious food. The lamb shanks were so good! We were also given complementary champagne, which i thought was a nice gesture. Price was reasonable. We had a great time and wanted to go back another day before we left for home, but didn't have the time.

Wondering around NY in cold raining night , saw this Greek Restaurant and gave it a try, the food was very tasty, I think they specialise in whole fish, the dip was very good, lamb shank was cook to perfection. It had to be the best service we had in NY for the last 4 days of our visit .

Had dinner with my husband and I wish I would have gone to the hotel room and changed. Other than that I everything was wonderful.

Over $15 of obnoxious service charges on our already expensive bill. Tonic water in gin and tonic was flat. They also polute with plastic stirrers which have been illegal in nyc since 2021

I recently went here for lunch with three colleagues and was impressed with the atmosphere and the fact that they bring around a platter with the day's catch so you know exactly what sort of fish you're getting. We all remarked that we'd seen something similar done in steak houses. The service however was terrible. When I called out the waitress, after several attempts to even get her attention, she claimed that two of the four of us had ordered appetizers and everything needed to be in synch. That seemed like a lame excuse and in fact our main courses were delivered within a minute of my complaint. Coincidence? Overall, the food was fine - especially the chocolate lava cake for dessert. But in Manhattan, the bar is set at great so why tolerate bad service when you can get the whole package at so many other restaurants?

Greek restaurant near Grand Central. Very lively bar and restaurant and great food and service. I also found the pricing to be reasonable and will return again.

Nice lunch spot near Grand Central. Can get busy for lunch. Need to choose carefully to avoid big bill. Salads are a good choice. Can add chicken or shrimp if you wish. Wine is expensive. Ambiance is OK. At least not noisy!

A lovely place to eat fresh delicious food, the staff were very helpful really glad we went there for lunch with our friends, it was busy but they were very efficient

Sadly, not a single redeeming feature to report .. Crowded tables and noisy .. Weak service but terrible attention to possible deficiencies and quality failures .. Along with a menu deceptively priced led to a high degree of indigestion. I ordered a fish dish ... Seemed off .. Left most of it untouched .. No one cared .. Not least the server .. And on top of it not least the senior managemenf. I travel around the world ,, have business meetings in similarly located establishment where there are ahigh number of one time patrons .. Never been to such a LOUSY place in 30 years of global travel!!

When I want a restaurant near Grand Central Terminal for a nice dinner, Ammos usually comes to mind. Greek and Mediterranean food is the star here - and nothing eclipses the plaki here. This is the most delicious Chilean sea bass preparation anywhere in town, and I order it almost every time I go here. Prices are a bit high, but worth it for the great food and good service

I had a dinner with business guests. The restaurant is located at the west side of GCT and convenient when returning to home for all participants. I think the meals were tasty overall and the prices were reasonable in this area. However, since the restaurant was crowded with the guests who had just finished the works near the restaurant, the services were very slow and I could not even find our waitress easily. My wine glass had been empty for more than 10 minutes. Except the services, this restaurant was good.

I came here with my partner for his birthday dinner on Tuesday 05-16-17 @ 7PM which we had reservations for. We were seated on table 23 and served by "Marcelo". We started with 2 glasses of Greek wine, meatballs and feta saganaki. My partner asked Marcelo for a seafood recommendation (a fish that isn't too fishy and doesn't have bones) and he immediately recommended the cheapest fish entree stating that it was sold by pound and that he can ensure it stays within weight. We never asked for a recommendation based on price and it took us several minutes later to decide what we wanted. Despite the feta saganaki being so salty, to the point that it was not eatable without a gulp of water, we ordered a fish entree and the shrimp risotto. It took over an hour for our main entree to come out, we were given bread baskets twice during the wait, finished a second round of drinks and when the entrees finally arrived, they we're both cold as if they were sitting around for a very long time. We notified Marcelo, who wasn't apologetic, took the plates and said he would be right back with them. Was he going to microwave them and bring them back to us?! We notified the manager who kept telling us to let him make things right even shoving Marcelo to leave the table as he returned but by this point we were over it. We spent almost 2 hours with poor below standard service to be served cold diner food. The manager later said he would take off the entrees from the bill to only be charged for them by another waiter who told me he charged the card with the wrong amount, voided a transaction and then charged it again with the correct amount. Communication in this place is ridiculous, as we left I gave the signed card receipt to the manager telling him that his staff can't even do the simplest things correct to which he himself stated that I was absolutely correct and that this was ridiculous as we walked away. Overall, our romantic birthday dinner was a disaster and by the looks of other patrons, I'm sure we weren't the only ones who wished we would've gone somewhere else to dine.

We have been to Ammos many times. Usually a great dinner steps from grand central. Last night a disaster. Horrible service, dinner took over an hour and a half to come out of the kitchen. We sent back some as it’s was raw and ate at home. I would have to think long and hard before I return. I am not sure what is going on in their kitchen but it desperately needs to be sorted out. The manager knew it was an issue and was apologetic but that didn’t fix a ruined dinner

They had redecorated since last time I was there. The bar area is active, noisy much like an upscale taberna on one of the Greek Islands. The dining room is much quieter, restrained and refined. The menu is broad, although there specialty is the whole fish, brought on a platter to your table. On Friday and Saturday the fish is half price. A GREAT bargain compared to the other better known Estatorios in the city. The vegetable "tower" reminded me of a tempura presentation, more choice than than zucchini and eggplant, but our plate might of sat for a few minutes and wasn't piping hot. The fish was perfectly cooked. The side of fries was hot and crispy, and the asparagus, al dente. A special word about the wine list. It is a treat if you wish to explore Greek wines. Our host oversaw the whole meal and was on point in his descriptions of the food and wine. We did not look at the dessert menu - we were stuffed. I worry that it is overlooked because of its proximity to GCT. On the other hand, it is a great upscale restaurant in an area where there is a paucity of top notch restaurants.

I was some set back with the food and service. Once 4 people understood I was dining alone, the service improved. The food wasn’t that great. Compare to other places, it just above average. I got the grilled octopus but was that great, actually served colder and expected.

If you love seafood with a Mediterranean flare, this place is for you! Terrific wine list, too! This restaurant consistently provides great food, especially fish and combines it with great service.

Very nice drinks and the service was amazing the bar lounge area it’s very good for drinks and Appsi love to go back with my friends and family

My wife and I have dined at Ammos at least two or three times when we're in Manhattan and they have surpassed our expectations and then some every time. But we recently had a meal in a class all of its own. I'm half Greek and so this cuisine is in my blood. But at the age of 66, I had the best lamb stew in my life there this week. The staff are friendly, courteous. accommodating. The ambience is great as is the location. And if you love Mediterranean food, Ammos is a treasure.

I have been to Ammos several times, and it is at the mid-range of some of the high-end Greek restaurants that NYC has around mid-town. Food is always sumptuous and good. The lamb is phenomenal as is any of the fish. I always share the Greek salad - one is enough for two. Try the Greek wines, especially from Nemea. They are excellent.

Went in on a weeknight without a reservation and were seated right away. Enjoyed a very good seafood dinner in Ammo's. The setting is beautiful and prices reflect it. The night we were there, there was everyone from a wedding party to tourists in ripped-knee jeans. You will not feel out of place. Go and enjoy.

This place does have a cool, modern vibe. The experience ends there however. This place is pricey, especially for the price of the food. They seem to be interested in getting people in and out quickly, which is not justified by this price point. Although the menu seems sophisticated at first, the food does not love up to the descriptions. After ordering, my food came out almost immediately. No one came to check on my meal, only to ask me if I wanted coffee and dessert. I won't be back here anytime soon.

I want to go back and take my adult children! They will love the fish selection and ambiance. Our service was great, food delicious, and the environment was welcoming!

We made a meal out of the lamb riblets, giganes, calimari and the spanikopita which was made like a lasagna - chock full of spinach! Everything was wonderful and the atmosphere is lovely.

Fantastic maitre' d and attentive staff. Upmarket Greek restaurant. Fabulous choice of fish dishes as well as many others. Delicious Greek wine. Recommend.

Prices are great for happy hour and service is excellent...recently there have been changes and they have become quite stingy with the cheese and bread they offer with drinks.

Great location near the Central Station in New York. Standard 'Greek abroad' decoration. Crowded and quite noisy at peak lunch time. Good menu options, the staff you expect for Greek restaurants abroad. Food OK, again at the expected level (good) but not more. Service was a little overwhelmed at the peak hour, quite slow and they mixed one of the four orders and brought the wrong dish.

not again . way overpriced , fish had been sitting after being cooked . arrived almost warm . I would avoid this one again .

When I read the previous reviews, the negative ones seemed odd and I'll try to explain why. This restaurant is in one of the most expensive and touristy parts of Manhattan. Prices are going to be noticeably higher than similar restaurants in the boroughs (though not exorbitant by any means) and everything is transparent. No red onions in the greek salad (they clearly state vidalia--don't complain folks if you order it anyway!). Fish by the pound--they don't cut whole fish up to suit your order and can't go find a small fish for you in a market nearby. I found the service excellent and the cuisine very good. This isn't Greece or even a Greek restaurant in a Greek neighborhood in Queens. It is a fairly high end place right by Grand Central and near Times Square catering to a range of folks, some with not very sophisticated tastes. Even so, the saganaki was excellent and the seafood mousaka entree was tasty. I asked for oysters and they admitted that the ones delivered that morning were unacceptable and they refused them rather than serve them to the customers--good for them! Nice wine by the glass and the bill was an expected $80 for a single person. Nice ambiance too.

Nice atmosphere and across from Grand Central Station. I stopped in for a late dinner. The fish was fresh and the prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly and they had a good wine list. They were running discounts on Saturdays.

I took my family for a dinner to Ammos. Staff was very attentive. Food is delicious. Appetizers have an excellent size to share. Lots of Greek traditional food to chose in menu! Bronzino and sides of mushrooms and wild greens are super delicious. Great choice of Greek Wines! Will be definitely back very soon! Thank you Ammos! Highly recommend!

The food here is delicious - you literally could not pick a bad dish. The restaurant offers a prix fixe dinner menu, but you need to ask for it. The waiter gave us a dirty look when we asked for the prix fixe. The prix fixe is supposed to include a glass of wine, appetizer, main course and desert. We asked for white wine, and the kind recommended was apparently not included in the prix fixe - but the waiter did not tell us that. One of our party asked for a recommendation for the appetizer, and was recommended the calamari salad, but he did not tell us that would be an extra $9. So beware!

I've been here for lunch twice in a month after discovering the impeccable food and good service at a business meeting. The variety of dips and the seafood are great, try the branzino, you won't be disappointed.

The food was excellent and the wine list extensive, although expensive. Service was very slow and inattentive, especially for the first 10"-15" when we arrived. And there was only one other table occupied. The wait staff was busying themselves with this and that, but not with us.

Wow, this was a fantastic dining experience.... will certainly return next time I return to the city. Had to wait for a table for a late lunch, but the host called my cell when the table was ready. Food was just fantastic. Busy and crowded but deservedly so. Right next to Grand Central - great for a business lunch or dinner.

The restaurant was recommended to us by a local we met at Grand Central terminal. There was a great selection of Greek wines and the food choice was just right. We only ordered appetisers but they were more than enough. The saganaki on its own was fabulous. The lovely waitress made it a special night for us on our last night in New York. We will certainly be back and we would recommend to anyone.

You must order the saganaki appetizer!!! They have a good selection of fresh fish. The service was exceptional.

When I think Greek food Ammos Estiatorio is always on my top list The ambience is phenomenal The service is friendly and very accommodating and the food is always great especially the grilled fish I can never get enough of it Recommended highly

The weather was cold, I was tired and admittedly grumpy, and I wanted something that was comforting and warm with attentive service and close to the Yale Club. What I got was wonderful food in a cozy setting and caring service, all just steps away from my awaiting bed. Olives and bread were excellent. My seared Scottish salmon with wild mushrooms was very fresh, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. My husband pronounced his fish of the day to be excellent—and because I was no longer grumpy, we added desserts—Greek yogurt with dried fruits and nuts, and Pagoto, essentially a tasting plate. And yes, we will definitely return.

Thankfully, it isn't often that I have an experience like what I had here today. I ordered my main course, salmon ($29), to be cooked medium-rare. It was served to me at room temperature and was, what I thought was rare, not medium-rare as ordered. The waiter called over the manager after I said that I did not want it to be cooked some more (which is not a top quality restaurant suggestion for fish) but wanted a new one. The manager disagreed with me about the degree to which it was cooked. I then said that, to me the salmon disappointed me for two reasons, I did not order salmon to have it served at room temperature and undercooked. He then took it back and a new one came out almost the same way. They grill the salmon and then finish off in the oven, I was told by the manager. They would be better off cooking it in a pan and surely getting it to the table hot. The Baklava dessert ($10) was delicious but the fig gelato that it comes is very mild-flavored and has little fig flavor, try the vanilla gelato in place of the fig gelato.

We went there for dinner without a reservation. The lady at the reception desk was very kind and welcoming but that was about the only good impression I have about the restaurant. We were seated at the very back corner which was fair enough without a reservation. But the light was so poor we had to get our phone camera lights out to be able to read the menu. Eventually they turned up the music so loud, everyone in the restaurant started to talk louder to understand each other. Our waiter was helpful during the ordering but a little rushed. I ordered pasta with Greek meat sauce which was nothing special. The other two people had fresh fish, which was alright but again nothing to be very pleased with. Definitely not worth the price. Overall not a place to return anytime soon.

The freshest fish one could hope for in the middle of Manhattan was on offer. The grilled calamari and the grilled sardines were exquisitely prepared. In keeping with the Greek tradition both dishes were served with very fresh wedges of lemon. The rest of the meal was also wonderful. The restaurant tends to be noisy when fully booked. It was a bit difficult to engage in serious discussion with clients. My recommendation is to go simply for pleasure.

Good service and good food albeit 75 dollars for a red snapper is too much. You cannot Taste that anymore. Noisy restaurant but good ambiance

Had pre fixe theater dinner. Very good value & it had a varied menu so there is something for everyone. Food was very good.

Dishes well served, good flavor Good size Reception below standard. No make welcome Its like and ihope Weiters. Not well trained buy welll intensions I think The can improve training List of wine well done safe

Ammos Estiatorio **** Quiet Oasis near Grand Central Station A.E. was a very welcoming, casual-elegant restaurant near Grand Central Station (5 minute walk). The menu offers a wide variety of mezes and a wide selection of the freshest of fish. Their sun-kissed flavors of Greece highlighted the food options. Of particular mention was their seared red mullet fish which was flavorful and quite tasty. One of the samplings we also shared was their traditional slowly cooked lamb shank which was done to perfection. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable.

Went here for a late night dinner after US Open tennis, had a good table near the windows. Service was quite good even though they had a couple of large tables in the room as well. We enjoyed the ambiance and service was friendly, helpful, and courteous. Food was very good with highlight being the whole fish (had the Dorado) and rack of lamb - both were cooked well and had great seasoning. Can also recommend the grilled calamari appetizer. Wine list is good and reasonably priced for NYC.

I found Ammos Estiatorio online while looking for a new Seafood Restaurant to try. While a little out of the way, it was well worth the trip. It is a lovely space, close to Grand Central. Quiet enough to have pleasant conversation. The friendly staff was both attentive and efficient. For my main course, I ordered the Salmon Filet Stuffed with Crabmeat. It was delicious. Served tender with a very tasty sauce. I recommend it highly. Like at most upscale NY Seafood Restaurants, Be prepared to spend about $75 per person. Plenty of nearby street parking on Saturday nights.

I think management needs to devise a better system - perhaps staggered reservations - like so many other places do it - would help. When we arrived here for our 12:30 reservation the line of patrons for this relatively small place was out the door. After about 10 minutes we made our way close to the hostess desk only to see that the early to arrive third member of our party already was seated. We got off the line - saving us at least another ten minutes - and went to join him. The menu was difficult to navigate but the slow service gave us plenty of time to peruse it. This is not Milos but a wannabe. The food is bland and uninspired. The good news was the windows open wide on to the street. The bad news is that the street is a construction nightmare. With the other lunch options nearby this is worth skipping.

This restaurant left me irritated. We work In the area and walked in early. 5:30. Barely any patrons. We asked for a booth and were told yes if we would eat but when the airhead hostess sat us, she insisted we couldn't get one because we were only 2 people and sat us at a tiny table in between the booths. What??? I didn't want to embarrass my friend so we sat. Where does a girl put her purse!!!! Anyway, food was ok. Waiters were nice. But it wasn't so exemplary that I would forget the slight. The entire meal the booths remained EMPTY. And by the time we left, the managers/hosts (2 of them) were sitting in one enjoying their meal! I won't ever return or recommend this place. It was a go to place that we reserve for our bosses but that will now change.

Convenient if you are arriving late at Grand Central, just across the street. Very fine Greek offerings. A little too pricey if you are from out of town, but should not be shocking for New Yorkers. Not the best Moussaka I've had, but certainly very very good Moussaka.

Excellent seafood!!! OMG. I've been to hundreds of Resturants and this one is one of my top picks for seafood in NYC. The shrimps, scallops, fish, everything is simply too fresh and good.

I met a friend I hadn't seen in a while and after ordering wine we wanted to chat. The waiter kept on coming over interrupting our conversation to take our order despite our saying we were not ready to order. Wait staff needs to be aware of customers status. While the food was good I can't rate higher because of this. Interesting menu with a more upscale take on Greek food compared to Astoria Greek restaurants. I would recommend if you are in neighborhood.

I really like this place as a work lunch. Service is a bit slow, but the food is great. Best in Mid-town i've had so far. Tops Items on Menu: Saganaki - Fried cheese that's lite on fire right in front of you. How can you go wrong? Octapodi- Great grilled Octopus Marouli- my favorite salad there. I always add gilled chicken to it if that's all I'm eating.

Ammos is an amazing dining experience. The staff was attentive but unobtrusive. The maitre d' asked questions about our likes and preferences then made a menu and wine pairing recommendation that met our expectations perfectly.

Stopped in here on a whim to get a couple of appetizers late one evening. Ambience was strange with decor not seeming to fit together. The place also had a strange smell - almost like it hadn't been deep cleaned in a while. Our server was not welcoming or friendly. We settled on the vegetable stack entree and grilled calamari. Both were just ok. The wine selection also left something to be desired. With all of the terrific restaurants in this city, I'd go elsewhere next time.

I went here initially based on a friend’s recommendation. They were not open during their normal hours. I went back tonight for happy hour. I went to the bar and got little assistance as to what the specials are. There are none. The wine I ordered was not one. I also ordered the Kalamari. It was ok. When I got the bill Nothing was on special. In fact they charged me for a bottle not the glass I had. I took a while for her to correct the bill. We sat for dinner. I ordered the spinach pie as an appetizer. It was good. The entree was salmon it was ok. Part of the prefix was dessert which was a bit dry. I was not terribly impressed. Would I go back, no. It was not great. The sign out front for happy hour, frankly they do not have anything and try to avoid to have any participation. What’s scary is you should check the bill.

Lovely atmosphere, well done decor, good service and a wide array of fresh fish from across the world whose flavor and taste the server will explain holding a large tray of whole fish. Crispy tower is an excellent appetizer, eggplant and zucchini thinly sliced and fried w/tzadiki dip. Fish was excellent, firm and flaky and fresh, as promised. A nice dinner, a nice place.

Fresh Greek food and seafood in particular. All done well, if not a bit pricey. Wine choices are good and the bar and bartenders are nice. Great place if people want a nice experience right near Grand Central.

For the most part, everything was great. I loved the open air atmosphere of the restaurant and all the food was delicious! The five assorted dips were wonderful, and so were all the entrees: whole fish, lamb chops and shrimp and scallops. The only thing lacking was the service. Our waitress seemed scattered and was never available.

Beautiful ambience, fresh food, but very expensive for the quality of the food. Fish is sold by the pound in our case $41! One sea bass was $100 and 8 brussels sprouts cut in half surve with a few morsels of bacon was $12.00. It was a good meal, but not worth the price. It also was very long 2 hours. They never asked if we had theatre tickets (we did) AND be aware, they are not offering their Pre-Theatre menu at $42 thru the holiday season.

We stumbled upon this restaurant because it was very near our hotel. It's classy with a professional staff. The music was cranked up a bit mid dinner so it made it a little hard to hear each other but it was a minor inconvenience. We had drinks and appetizers, all of which were great. Full disclosure to satisfy some previous reviewers, we are tourists and we don't know Greek food but we had a great experience and would come here again.

This is the type of restaurant I'm glad I visited and ate there but not quite the 'can't wait to go back' kind. The food was good but I had better. The ambiance and service were great but in the end it is always the food that puts a place over the top. Based on that, Ammos is a very good but not an excellent restaurant.

Although advertised as a "Greek seafood" restaurant, the lamb shank is also very good. Fresh fish are presented table-side for diners who don't know their fish. Calamari appetizer was enormous, easily enough for two, and tender -- if a bit oily. The wine list is wide ranging, with several Greek wines on offer. The main courses are nicely garnished, not just meat on a plate. Cost for one was roughly $50, excluding wine and tip. Worth a repeat visit.

I have been to this restaurant multiple times and each time there was something that just wasn't quite right - overselling too much food, pushing the overpriced whole fish, but the final, and I mean LAST time, I took a guest and was totally embarrassed by the horrible treatment we got - why does this happen to two women dining together? In this case it was a business dinner. It was a Monday night and the restaurant was not crowded. They seated us in an empty section that did not have a waiter assigned to it. Instead, we were waited on by the over-important restaurant manager who apparently was really too busy to wait on us. We had to ask the busboy repeatedly for someone to take our drink order and then our food order and so on. So instead of having a full meal, we ordered just appetizers. That had not been our plan, but it seemed to be the safest way to get a little service. Why would they do that? We had reserved the table more than a week in advance, we were properly dressed in business attire, and we had intended to spend much more on dinner. They treated us terribly and I will NEVER set foot back in the restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants in New York that would appreciate our business.

Food is high quality but come with cash. They will charge 4% fee if you pay with anything else..These guys do not want to pay taxes.

Went to this place for lunch the other day - first rate meal and a good lunch 'prix fixe'. Convenient Midtown location.

Good wine, good food and really nice ambiance. I enjoy many of the grilled dishes and prices are reasonable. Authentic Greek salad (nice tomatoes, no lettuce). I would like to see some kabob type dishes, but still rates high. Location is either really good - near Park Ave and Grand Central, or really out of the way.

Casual but upscale place. Very busy on Thursday night. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait a little which was fine. Nevertheless, they gave my husband a glass of ouzo, a very nice gesture. We enjoyed saganaki and plaki (with sea bass). Salads good but not special. Would recommend if you want upscale Greek with some emphasis toward seafood; they do have meat. A local told us this was one of the 3 best Greek in NYC

Had the prefix menu for lunch.I had the grilled calamari and the lamb.It was very good,as well nice portions.

This is a wonderful restaurant with a great Greek menu. The Branzino was heavenly good. The staff was so accommodating, even positioned our table so my husband could watch the basketball game.

We were a party of three on a Friday night. They were not crowded, and we were able to get a same-day reservation. We had a fish dish, a lamb dish and a shrimp / risotto dish, plus an appetizer of “flaming cheese.” Each person enjoyed their meal. The service was efficient and unobtrusive. Nice job.

Always wanted to try & finally did. I got fried calamari & wife had seafood mousakkas to share. The calamari was some of the best we've had. Her dish was good too. Nice ambiance, great attentive service. Worth a try.

We dined last night at Ammos Estatorio. We ordered off of the very extensive and generous restaurant week menu. The food was fabulous. Unfortunately, the service was horrible. Our server was inattentive and just generally inept. Everything took a long time to arrive, and she never responded to any requests. The restaurant was also extraordinarily crowded and noisy. It felt like extra tables were crammed in, because there was hardly any room to walk between table. Again, the food was spectacular; so maybe it would be a better choice when it is not Restaurant Week.

The fresh fish (displayed tableside) is a not to be missed entree. The lamb burger was also quite tasty. Everything screams authentic, did not get to explore the wine list, so cannot comment.

This restaurant is not only beautiful inside but the food is outstanding. Service was also great. We really enjoyed everything about this restaurant.

Looking for a place near Grand Central for a business lunch for four. Authentically Greek food -- think competantly prepared seafood, grilled octopus and more -- in comfortable surroundings. Professional, competant staff, good noise level for talking. Very good choice. Would come back for dinner too.

Had lunch recently with a friend. Service is fine, ask to see the fish, it helped me choose a very good branzino. Ambience is fairly relaxed and much quieter than its close by competitor, Avros Estiatorio. I was not impressed by the appetizers, but I would come back for the fresh fish.

I went to Ammos with friends and was skeptical but was happy and enjoyed the experience...... The food was GREAT. my guest was from grace and he for sure loved the food and he said it is one of the best greek restaurants he visited in NY. I like that they ask you to choose the fish you fish you want and then cook it for you... The service was nice... The bread was somehow over cooked and hard/dry but other than that all was great!

The atmosphere inside is so nice. (^^)/ Breads comes with big tasty olives and olive's oil. When all is said and done, waiter showed us fresh fish a lot and explained gently, politely before we order . Highly recommened !!

I threw a private party at Ammos and it was spectacular and I felt so taken care of. Planning with Angela was a delight . The food and decor are spectacular and they made room for a dance floor. I will throw all of my events at Ammos since I was incredibly relaxed and never had to worry about anything. Thank you Dimitris, Angela and the entire amazing staff at Ammos

We wound up here because it was late and many restaurants in the neighborhood were closed (Ammos' kitchen was open until 11) - it was a great recommendation. Their grilled calamari was excellent, and their mousaka was a great experience - rather than a large bland casserole, Ammos' Mousaka focuses on the ingredients and tastes, it was wonderful..

This is better than most Greek meals I have eaten in Greece. If there is a better one in the city then show it to me. Ok. It was nearly 100 dollars per head but take in to consideration we opted for a 100 dollar bottle of wine. Incredible genuine food. Fish. Wow!! I cant say enough and I have eaten Greek a lot. Congrats.

Lots of fish choices here in this Greek seafood restaurant near Grand Central. Good mezes, fish deboned/de-headed, good quality fresh tasting, ample portions, good service, nice wine, nice olives/bread w/olive oil placed at table. Had the prawns which were excellent, but really only needed 2...for 3, $60 and more than I could eat given the other extras. Nice dinner.

The Red Snapper was mindblowing!!! The wine our server recommended us did fit perfectly with the fish and everyone was so kind.

We stumbled across Ammos Estiatorio and ended up eating there twice during our visit to NYC. Our dinner was delicious and the best fish meal we have had in a long time. We shared the Fagri that was cooked perfectly. The pricing is unusual and could be expensive if you aren't careful as the whole fish is priced by the pound. The wine list is extensive and quite pricey but the waiter recommended a Greek white wine, which was very nice. We went back for lunch the next day before our flight home and the lamb cutlets were very nice too, although the fish was the stand out. Very, very busy at lunch and quite a different feel to the dinner crowd. Good food, attentive staff and we would return if we were locals.

Totally recommend this spot for a hip yet classic Greek dining experience. Cuisine is fresh with unique variations while maintaining classically Greek essence. Big wine selection, modern decor and excellent service. I strongly recommend the Horiatiki (Village Salad) - seems basic but the dressing is spot on with authentic flavoring.

Lovely food in a lovely surrounding. Staff very helpful and pleasant we went back there twice in one week!

Excellent service. They were very accommodating for a large party. Had the fresh white snapper that was fresh and delicious with a simple preparation. Across from Grand Central great for a business meal in midtown.

I loved the place, was beautifully decorated and relatively quiet. Service was perfect and food delicious. Moussaka was so tasty, as well as the Greek wine we got. We had a really nice table a bit in the corner, so could enjoy some quiet cozy dining. The price is really good for the quality and service they offer. Totally recommended for a business lunch or dinner date. I would absolutely come back.

This restaurant deserves a zero star review at best!!! A birthday lunch celebration turned into "why are we here" situation!!! Every dish ranges from mediocre to terrible!!! Starting with mediocre... Katsikisia salad was overdressed causing a wilty & oily salad. Then came the Octapodi (grilled octopus) which was chopped in chunks and so chewy and hard that it was hard to swallow!!! Any octopus dish that's chopped in chunks and masquerade in a salty dark sauce spells NOT FRESH! Psites Sardeles (grilled sardines) was salty and overcooked. The worst dish was the Garides Santorini (Tiger shrimps with linguini in tomato sauce)...there were 3 lonely shrimps BUT the pasta was so mushy that could rival canned Chef Boyardee)!!! To make the dining experience worse, our comments to the manager went to deaf ears and topped with a horrendous attitude. He stated the "Tiger shrimp pasta dish" is of Santorini style, LOL!!! I've been to Santorini several times and THIS is NOT Santorini style!!! It's been almost 3 hours since we ate at Ammos Estiatorio and my mouth and throat are dry and thirsty. This is a sign of the too much MSG was added to the food. Bottom line is, if management does not give a damn about what the restaurant is serving NOR proud of the quality of food they serve...STAY AWAY!!! Save your money and spend it at a restaurant where they value their customers. Go where they are proud of what they serve at ANY given price point! In summary, Ammos Estiatorio serves AWEFUL FOOD, OVERPRICED, AND OBNOXIOUS MANAGEMENT!!! Perhaps it's a tourist destination where they know people won't return!!!

We really enjoyed our food, but were unhappy with how we were seated. We were basically glued to a couple next to us and couldn't hear ourselves talk since that couple happened to be super loud. They definitely need to space out their tables a tad so we're not all crammed together. Apart from that, the food was great.

Lively & noisy. Food very good, so is service. An excellent place in an area not well supplied with good restaurants. Seafood very fresh.

We ate here on a Friday. We asked for a quiet table & they accommodated us. They were a little short on staff early on, but other staff arrived. The appetizers of Octopus ($22) and Kolokith zucchini friters ($16) were only fair, especially when comparing to another Greek restaurant which is our favorite. The Dover Sole from Holland ($52/lb) was very good and flavorful. The Rack of Lamb, cut chops ($43) was also quite good and flavorful, also. The Lamb Shank ($34) we didn't taste, and the rib-eye-Brizola ($45) was quite good also. The Ammos Fries ($9) were very good and a nice quantity that we shared, was provided. The Haricot Vert ($9) were nothing special but good. Desert: Yogurt Flan ($10) was small and OK, the Milopita ($12) was ample. Service was quite good. We would return again!

I invited 3 friends for dinner in this restaurant recently. All of us enjoyed it and thought the food was delicious in every way so it's definitely worth a try for those who are intereted in mediterranean seafoods. Bon Appétit!

My colleague and I took a client to lunch here yesterday. We were seated upstairs in a smaller room with just a few other tables. It turned out to be the perfect place to sit as it wasn't as noisy as downstairs and we were surrounded by wines. It felt like eating in a wine library if that makes any sense. We started with a flight of dips which were good - not amazing, but good. The waiter also suggested starting with a Greek salad, which was incredibly fresh and delicious. The waiter also showed us all the fresh fish that came straight from Greece. The three of us decided to share the large fresh grilled Red Snapper and it was soooo tasty. If you can get the room upstairs, it's fantastic and you won't be disappointed by the food or the waitstaff. Great place to take a client.

After checking out many of the local eateries for breakfast we finally went to this restaurant that our concierge recommended. Seems there are plenty of

Amazing food, great service & the ambience very nice. The place is huge with many private rooms. Good spot for drinks & apps after work but for lunch and dinner as well. We loved it!

The food at Ammos is of high quality, the staff are friendly, and the room is charming. But in a misguided attempt to be hip, the soundtrack is obnoxious -- loud, thumping, beat-box dreck. It is impossible to enjoy yourself when your head is throbbing. Weather permitting, the staff also like to throw open the big windows so we can hear cabs honking and sirens blaring outside. Quiet things down, please -- Manhattan is noisy and fast-paced enough as it is. When dining, folks might like some rest and relaxation.

The gigantes are fantastic! The Avacado salad, superb! The red snapper, very good. Service was great AND bad! I ordered the seafood moussaka which I didn't care for at all... too fishy, but when I put it aside, it sat there for 10+ min! No one came and asked how the food was!

THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF - AVOID!! I have eaten here a few times because I like Greek food and it's convenient to Grand Central. It's nothing special but the location for commuters is a draw. Last night I went with two friends at my suggestion. My friends ordered the shared whole fish option which was pricey to begin with at $42 per person without sides. (The fish is charged by the pound and the menu recommends one pound per person which is what they ordered.) They chose the red snapper. The waitress returned from the kitchen to report that there were no more large red snapper to share but instead offered two individual fish. They chose this option assuming it was the same deal. When the bill came, the fish was a whopping $107!! Again, this was before you add sides! $53.50 each for fish! We are not talking dry aged steak at a top steak restaurant. We talked to the manager who insisted that the fish was charged by the pound and that was the price for what we got. He didn't care that they originally ordered one pound each. He was dismissive of our complaint which was very annoying - our total bill was $330, not including drinks at the bar beforehand so taking off the extra $23 would have been the right thing to do. Not wanting to punish the waitress, we still left a $15 tip each. It would have been $20 each but for this overcharge. If you want mediocre food at a ridiculously high price and like being ripped off, this is the place for you. Otherwise avoid like the plague.

The restaurant is lovely inside and the fish was delicious. The staff was very professional, well-trained, polite, efficient and knowledgeable. The food was spectacular. Fish is very fresh and cooked perfect. Will come back to savor more of their signature dishes.

Just minutes from the Roosevelt and Grand Hyatt hotels, and a stone's throw from Grand Central Station, this restaurant is an oasis. The decor was lovely, the food was fabulous, and the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. And they were able to take our party of five with same-day reservations, on a Saturday. It was a full house, but there was no rush to get us out. Without being overwhelming, the menu nevertheless offered a great selection of traditional Greek dishes including seven or eight varieties of fresh fished cooked whole on the grill. Overall, a wonderful experience. This definitely goes on my short list of destination restaurants for whenever I go to NYC.

shocked by cost of meals and quality - had a prawn pasta, it had 3 prawns in it, cheapest house wine was £50, not overly impressed

Great place! Excellent quality, ample selection, interesting & unusual items, attentive service, nice décor & ambience. Grilled whole fish superb (I had Red Snapper, my wife had Sea Bass) & a real bargain with the 50% special discount. Cuisine is authentically Greek but more sophisticated than most (e.g., seafood moussaka) & has a few Italian (risotto) & French (soufflé) influences. They even gave us complimentary dessert wine. Overall, we were treated very well & were delighted with our meal. It's not cheap, but it's worth the price. We are sure to return. Try it for a special occasion. You'll love it.

This turned out to be the perfect restaurant for catching up with great friends. The location is extremely close to Grand Central. The food and the service was terrific yet the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.

Where do I begin….Very disappointing experience. Had high hopes because I have been to other Greek seafood places in NYC but this seriously disappointed. First of all my husband’s prosecco was flat and waiter admitted it was from an old bottle. The bread was stale. Inedible. The grilled calamari were rubbery. Worst I have ever had. Then the busboy (an older gentleman who had been setting the tables) cleared my calamari dish and spilled the olive oil / lemon juice leftover from the dish all over my pants and onto the floor. He didn’t apologize and didn’t clean up the floor. I then told the waiter what happened and he also did not apologize but when I told him that I was afraid someone might slip on the floor spot where it had been spilled he was annoyed. Unreal. The waiter never brought the asparagus we ordered with our fish and charged us for it. At that point I just took it out of his tip and left. Needless to say I do not recommend this restaurant. Absolutely ruined my night and since this is the only pair of pants I brought to New York City I am beyond frustrated. Steer clear of this place. You can do much, much better.

The waiters were friendly and engaging. My son and I ordered 3 appetizers and the food was so-so. I would have enjoyed a glass of wine but the least expensive I saw on the menu was $12 and it wasn't for a great wine. As we left, I saw a big sign that said they had happy hour with $6 drinks. It's a shame the waiter didn't let me know about that. I was disappointed.

Despite some decent reviews and a full house at lunch Thursday we were very underwhelmed. The dips were fairly good but a requested grilled calimari with Greek salad was ...well...blech! Bland salad and soggy cold calimari slices. A saganaki tasted like it was made the week before....hard and cool. Even a hard to mess up Greek coffee was poor. Most of our entire meal was sent back on our plates without comment, and more surprisingly, nary a question from the waiter if we liked it! Good to stay away from unless there is a specific menu item that people come for that we didn't know about.

Food tasteless if not bad, winelist poor or outrageously expensive, service bad, overpriced, will never go back again

Came here on a Thursday night for a later dinner and had a nice experience. Service was very good. Our waiter was efficient and quick with everything, yet at no point did we feel rushed. The restaurant had a very energetic atmosphere to it. This is certainly not the place for a first date where you want to get to know a person because you may find yourself shouting. The presentation they make with the fish prior to choosing your meal is excellent. I like how they bring out the fish and describe it to the customer so that they can have a better understanding of what they're getting. The food was good. Not the best Greek I've had, but it was good. My wife went with the Lavraki and I had the Plaki. As far as pricing is concerned, I found the restaurant to be fair and in line for the caliber of restaurant that it is. I would eat here again.

I have eaten here before with friends and had a good time. However, this evening I am dining alone. The only tables that are offered are so close to others that it would feel like I am dining with strangers. The said I could eat in the bar! I was taken to a dark corner, I was uncomfortable, so I left. It is a shame that as a single diner the restaurant is not interested in meeting ones' needs.

Tried this place out for restaurant week. Started with the grilled squid which was tasty and then had the Moussaka as an entire. They couldn't have cut a smaller square of moussaka. It was placed in the center of a large plate with nothing else. I was hungry wnen I got home and that was after a small piece of walnut cake. The Maitre D asked how everything was and I told him that we didn't care for the waiter bringing the large plate with six fresh fish to the table at the beginning of the meal and instead of graciously saying "oh, I'm sorry" , he started to argue about why they do it. I told him if you don't want to hear from your guests, don't ask.

Ate here on a Friday night as a couple , food and service was excellent, great octopus and the mains were packed with seafood.Staff were very helful , friendly and engaging

I rarely give any place an "excellent" review but this is as close to excellent as it gets! The food was really fantastic! Me & a couple friends sat in the bar which was noisy but hey ….you're in NYC, get used to it! The waitstaff was attentive, the food was prepared perfectly as well. I tried Octopus for the first time and from what I was told, I was spoiled because I'll probably never have it that good again! Nice menu with creative entree's. Prices are on par with most NYC restaurants. Looking forward to going back and sitting at a table to get table service next time.

This mediterranean bistro welcomes you from Grand Central with a warm atmosphere, a good vibe from the crowded tables and the smell of olive oil and garlic. Word is out, and this place packs a crowd and families, colleagues, friends and couples. We made a reservation and were disappointed when our table was not available… we were offered a complimentary drink at the bar while we waited and before the drinks were ready, the table was too. Every dish was fantastic - grilled sardines, octopus and lamb. The only negative of our experience was that the tables are very close together and we were bumped by the servers jostling between tables.

Great food ambience and service.we both ordered the bronzini and had the side dish of creamy spinach.assyrtiko from santorini is a must try. Would definitely go again and recommend

My wife and I were staying next door to this restaurant and given a very wet evening decided to eat dinner here rather than further afield. Service was prompt and friendly. My wife ordered two appitisers Gatides Salata ($24) & Plevrakia ($17) and I chose the Theater Solomos ($38), a choice of appitiser, entree and dessert. Apart from the Plevrakia which my wife found the meat tough, we enjoyed all the other dishes.

Our food: Katsikisia Salad, Special fish of the day, Seafood risotto, cappuccinos -- was very good, and the service was excellent, but the little note on the bill, BEFORE a credit card was presented: $4+ for credit card payment, rubbed us the wrong way. I took it out of the tip. I hope, as a midtown restaurant at which I've eaten pre-pandemic, they survive, but this is not the way to do it.

The portions are generous and the food delicious in this Greek restaurant on Vanderbilt Ave. It looks formal from the outside but the staff give it a relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss the lamb burger and for dessert, the baklava.

We had a table of four and we all ordered seafood dishes, and some seafood appetizers. The Xoriatiki( Greek Salad) was nothing what a greek salad should be.Never served with white onions, always red onions. It was pitifully small and hardly any cucumber. Probably the most expensive greek salad we've had in our lives and the lowest quality. The crab croquettes were nothing special and had this acrid metalic flavour to them Our main meals were ok but nothing special and certainly not fitting for a location across the road from Grand Central. The wine price list was stratospheric,.We ordered a Santorini Assyritico which we had last year in Santorini for a quarter of the price. The moment we realised we were ripped off was the next day when we had a lovely lunch at Greek Taverna at Astoria Ditmars. We had 100% better food for half the price and they managed to get the greek salad right Would I go again or recommend a friend?? Probably not But on a positive note, the wait staff were impeccable and treated us like royalty

Delicious food, good service, and convenient location near Grand Central Station make this a great business lunch spot.

We went to Ammos Estiatorio on a Thursday night without a reservation and were seated promptly. The restaurant is clean, well decorated, nice ambiance but the noise level makes conversation a bit tough (we had 4 at the table). Serve is very good and food quality excellent. Our wine was nice but checking it on Vivino, was a 500% mark up so beware.

Excellent food and a lot of it. Wonderfully broad Greek/Med. menu. However, service was friendly but inept and the place is NOISY!

On Saturday, February 27, a friend and I stopped into Ammos in the late afternoon to sample and sip some Greek wines and enjoy an authentic Greek appetizer. This was my second time here, and I love everything about it. Although I know wine quite well, I confess to a degree of ignorance regarding the wines of Greece, but on both visits, I put myself in the hands of their friend and knowledgeable bartender Miletes. He poured us several samples after asking about our wine preferences, and explained each as he poured and we tasted. I focused on red wines and all were delicious. We made our selections which he generously poured into very fine wine glasses. My friend actually fell in love with a Greek dessert wine which was reminiscent of a Tawny Port. For food we ordered their octopi, grilled octopus, another Greek classic that was a textbook example. Ammos, which means "sand," is beautiful and transports you immediately to the Greek Isles. We sat in their bar area, but soon we'll be back for a full dinner in their main dining room.

I always enjoy my meals when I go to Ammos. They have a great menu and a variety of fresh fish selections. The service is always amazing and I will be going back again

I don't know a lot about Greek food, but the traditional Greek meat sauce ( a very nice Bolognese style sauce) was quite delicious. This would be a great place to get fresh seafood as well.

We went for our Mediterranean night. The restaurant is nicely decorated with window walls which open for an indoor/outdoor flare. We started with the zucchini fritters, lamb riblets and meatballs. I could have had the fritters for a meal, they were excellent. Main course baby pig, and lamb. These are large portions, be prepared! For New York, reasonably priced.

Located conveniently off of Madison Avenue - the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and priced well. Literally across the street from Grand Central Station - (Vanderbilt Avenue) . Decor is beautiful- food is absolutely fabulous!!!! The servers are so kind and friendly and the atmosphere is classy - yet cozy. Drinks at the bar pricy but not for manhattan ! The best Greek food outside of Greece! LOVE IT!

The service was horrible, even though there were only three tables of customers. Every course was bland. I am happy to offer salt and pepper shakers for the tables to enable the patrons to season their entrées. The hostess gave us lunch menus at 7 PM, we chose three Courses… Then she said oops here are the dinner menus. Same menu twice as expensive! This was our only option for dining, on Presidents’ Day it seems as though the city is still shut down.

Ammos is a very busy restaurant found in the shadows of Grand Central Station. The fresh fish offering is brad and tastefully prepared mostly on the grill.

We did not have reservations at this hotel. We should have. They did find us a table. The appetizers were delicious. Staff friendly, accommodating.

Because of weather our family chose this near-by restaurant, across from Grand Central Station for dinner. While pleasant, the meal was adequate and the service was a little better than that.

Nice place to dine with a interesting dishes to chose from. Well-prepared fish dishes. Service was a bit slow, as we had to chase down the server for the bill (needed to catch a train). Typically priced for this cuisine in Manhattan. Dinner for two for wine and gratuity was roughly $200. Sorry, but I wasn't overly impressed.

We went for a quick farewell meal with family we were visiting in the States. The restaurant was empty at 5 pm when we arrived, but the bar was thriving and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Our large suitcase was stored and we were led to a table with a gleaming white cloth in a beautifully decorated room. We had only one course, but each was exceptionally tasty - crab cakes, lamb and moussaka. I tasted the moussaka which was authentic Greek cooking, but my crab cake were too good to share. We were treated like royalty and the meal, not cheap, was worth every penny (or cent!)

good service, good food, everything fresh and inventive. this is definitely a good place for a business lunch or with friends. and multiple visits you'll never run out of great options on the menu.

Two of my friends were in town from out of state and had to have an amazing New York experience I heard of Ammos and it was better than I imagined. The food was incredible the staff was very friendly and we got a great buzz on the happy hr drinks.

Convenient to our meeting at the Roosevelt Hotel. so my friend and I had dinner on a Wednesday night. having eaten there on another trip. Noisier at 7 p.m. than we remembered it, but lively, vibrant, and we could still carry on our conversation easily enough. I ordered a whole fish, a Mediterranean snapper sold by the pound, and figured one pound would be an ample serving. Shared an excellent but enormous salad with my friend. My friend chose a pasta entree which she liked. My fish was absolutely delishous, fresh, just a subtle hint of seasonings, so good that I ate every bite of a very big fish. I didn't think about how big the fish was until the bill came, then I remembered I was paying by the pound. And paying far more than I had intended on my first night in town. Nevertheless, it was so good that I didn't regret what it cost. The following Saturday I was still bragging about my good dinner so we went back for more. This time my friend ordered the same but the restaurant didn't have two fish of a good size for both of us. At their suggestion, we shared. And again it was as good as before, only it wasn't quite enough. I could have eaten it all. Of course, the bill was far less this time. But the dish was half price, I would definitely go back again. BTW Saturday night was much quieter with far fewer people. Must say in all our experiences there the service has been pleasant, informed, and most pleasant, from the receptionist to the wait staff.

Took a chance here given mixed earlier reviews. Busy on a Wednesday evening. Our waiter was having a good time, which made our meal a lot of fun, too. The octopus appetizer was good, not great. However, Ammos has an eclectic, wide range of fish entrees, and the kitchen really shines here. Mostly grilled. All looked wonderful. Ours were done perfectly (cooked through but still moist and tasty). Interesting wine list with many reasonably priced Greek wines. There are recognizable names of wineries in the short selections from other countries, with OK prices. We decided to trust the waiter to chose a Greek wine, which was both delicious and perfect with the fish. Hint: If you don't know Greek wines, trust the wait staff. Desserts were Greek, of course, and finished off the meal on another high note. Total tab was typical for a mid-town restaurant, but the quality of the fish and desserts made the meal a reasonable expense.

We booked this place through the open table app, the app made a mistake and booked us a table at 11:00 AM and the places didn´t open until 11:30 AM. I am not sure whose fault is that. Not blaming the restaurant about that. However, once we went in to the restaurant the bad experience started. The food was decent, nothing out of this world. But the service, oh boy. The waiter was the rudest waiter I’ve ever had, we were celebrating our engagement and we mentioned that when we made our reservation. The waiter did not offer anything in fact he kept complaining the place didn’t open until 11:30. We are already inside the restaurant! If you are open, you serve people buddy. He barely came to the table, he never gave us the specials or even asked us if we wanted any food. The whole time we were there he kept folding napkins at the bar. By this time there were already two other tables at the bar. There was another waiter that never even bother to come check on our table. We sat there for a good solid 25 mins until the napkin folder waiter decided to offer us some food. We were celebrating a special occasion, we wanted to order some drinks and enjoy our time there he kept saying there is no bartender, only beer and wine. It took another 15 minutes to bring us the wine list. Horrible experience, that waiter should be fired. I am sorry I didn’t take down his name.

We enjoyed the atmosphere and food and service at Ammos. The menu was extensive and the service was very prompt and helpful. We had keftades as an appetizer.. delicious. I had solomos and enjoyed the juxtaposition of salmon and beetroot. My husband had lamb shank..arni yiouvetsi and loved it (and he has tried this in many restaurants). We also had karidopita ...again lovely...for dessert. An enjoyable authentic restaurant.

All of the staff were Greek which in a Greek restaurant is a must. They were efficient and gave good guidance on the food. The restaurant is well decorated and of course the food is perfect.

Had a memorable dinner and a dessert we are still talking about. Great service and will return again

My husband stumbled on this restaurant one day when he was near Grand Central. Told me about it and we decided to go after an event we had. The place is beautifully decorated and cozy. The service is fantastic. The wait staff tries very hard to make your dining experience pleasurable. Our water glasses were always being refilled which I like. We had the octopus appetizer which was plentiful and flavorful and delicious. I had the branzino whole fish and it was fabulous-cooked to perfection. My son had the pasta and shrimp and loved every bite.My husband had a shrimp and rice dish and loved it too! We did not have dessert but the coffee is delicious.

This is a solid choice near Grand Central Station for upscale seafood. If you go with a group, try ordering a selection of appetizers and some wine. It's a great way to sample a variety of their dishes.

There is an annoying trend I am noticing with all the better restaurants I am frequenting. The trend is that I never walk out feeling like I received value for money. In fact, I feel like the owners, waitstaff etc were smiling behind their hands..as they look out at the overspending crowd.. My fish was good as was the spinach....no especially the spinach. Add a soup and some sparkling water....and you are pushing 90 dollars..... I am simply unsure that the food was so great as to imply such a cost.

Everything was as expected. The restaurant is hiding next to Grand Central, and occupies a space next to the Yale Club. Given Midtown rents, their bills are reasonable, and the fish is good. Many of the diners looked like repeats.

Ammos Estiatorio is the first Greek restaurant I can recall with a seafood "tilt." It's unassuming from the outside but hip and stylish inside. I was here for a four-course business dinner and enjoyed the octopus bites, tomato and cheese salad and multi-sauce bread plate appetizer. The shrimp pasta was delicious but enormous, with jumbo shrimp and thick sauce and noodles piled high. I saved just enough for the baclava and flan dessert. Everything was excellent.

2nd day in a new job and was taken out to lunch at Ammos and was not disappointed. Lamb burger was amazing as was the fish. These guys know how to cook and serve. No one was disappointed. Will definitely go back there again!
Excellent Solid Frill-less Food
Imagine just great fresh fish cooked so perfectly that you don't need sauces or special treatment, just good grilling along with freshly prepared vegetables, and that's what you find here. A real testament to real food w/o the frills. Love the tower starter of eggplant and zucchini, lamb riblets and warm grape leaves. Service a bit spotty because this rather loud crowded busy space is just that, but plowing through that works just fine.
