Great for People Watching!

Good Cold Beer! People Watching on the patio! Staff very informative about local attractions! Hotel just around the corner.

Good 2 times

By drphil2 |

We went to amsterdam ale 2 times in the last 2 weeks. My wife had fajitas both times. I had a burger and knockwurst the second time. Excellent food, great beers and a comfy environment. They even had corn tacos for my wife. Very professional wait staff. Great local place.

Good Food

By obamagal |

Stopped in it's around the corner from The Beacon Theater. Pulled pork sandwich served with sweet potato fries aioli good. Ordered Calif wrap it came on a soft Kaiser roll. It's a neighborhood staple. Very noisy but good service. Inside and outside dining. Very good servers. Ladies room very tiny. Would go back but sit outside 7 t v. Bar. Super casual. Prices moderate.

Pretty good food and service but ridiculous happy hour policy

By Diana K |

During the fourth March snowstorm in a half full restaurant, we were told that happy hour prices applied only if we sat at the bar, about four feet away from our table. This is just nonsensical and will keep us from returning. There are lots of other places with decent burgers and a real happy hour.

Great selection of beers

By Cucklebum |

Great selection of beers and a relaxed atmosphere was just what we needed after a long flight from the UK. Hubby had the steak sandwich and I had a burger, both good and ideal for a quick, no fuss bite to eat after a long day.

Very good choice of drinks and close to the Beacon Theatre

By hpbeebie |

Not much to add to recent reviews. Food looked a bit average. We only popped in for a pre show drink but were very happy with the beer and wine selections. Not too expensive by Upper West standards. Service was exemplary with iced water on out table within a minute, and we hadn't got round to asking for it. The servers here really know how to look after their customers.

A great spot near the Beacon Theater

By AliciaV1968 |

We went to a concert at the Beacon Theater and came here afterward. The walls opened up due to the nice weather. We sat indoors, but the ventilation from the open walls allowed air inside and it helped quite a bit with airflow and kept the room comfortable. The food was excellent and they have a really large beer and wine menu if you are just looking to have a drink before or after a concert.

Terrible

By Rocky S |

I gave them a pass in Super Bowl Sunday because I figured they were overwhelmed. But there was no excuse last night. Wilted disgusting salad and Tabasco soaked chicken sandwich that literally had to be washed off in order to eat. I’ll say goodbye to this neighborhood favorite that is now officially “dreck”

Good Beers, OK Food on Upper West Side Near Museum of Natural History

By Douglas T |

Family of four with a need for lunch after hours at the Museum of Natural History. Great beer selection and we had four different and good beers. Hamburger seemed fine and spicy chicken sandwich and greek salad both very good. This is a pub atmosphere, nothing fancy. The fries were overcooked, but the yam fries and onion rings pretty good. All in all, fine.

A wonderful lunch place

By Karen A |

Our group had sandwich wraps, chili, hotdogs and fries, all generous portions and very tasty. Good selection of beer and mixed drinks. Great service and very comfortable atmosphere. We will return!

Big fat meaty wings

By OrlaghMarie |

Good wings shared as an appetiser, Cajun pasta for me, burger for himself, both pretty good. LO had chicken fingers and were overlooked! Couple of drinks later and we headed off. Very tasty but expensive enough! Should of just stuck with the wings !

Busy, average

By Companion234281 |

Busy place, cute atmosphere, comfy, but food was average. We got the onion rings because they were raved about but they were cold, soggy, and so greasy. The Cajun pasta dish was HOT! The budget was average, served on soggy English muffin. Eh. Calamari was excellent. Prob won't make us come back though.

Pass on Pulled Pork Sandwich

By FoodTravelTrips |

Good beer selection. Waitress was very friendly. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was at best good. Cold, reheated pork smothered in BBQ sauce. Others I was with enjoyed their entrees.

Stopped in with friends for a drink

By rickb527 |

We were walking back to our hotel and decided to stop for a drink in the late afternoon. Dark inside, but a very comfortable atmosphere. Reminded me of an older pub in Europe. Some tables and a nice bar inside. Promptly greeted by the hostess and were seated outside (our request). They have additional small tables and some picnic tables outside. We ordered several drinks (a Bombay Sapphire Martini $9, a Baileys $8), a beer (Avery White $8), and a wine (Malbec $10). Drinks were good, Our friend loved his beer (never had it before), but our other friend did not like her wine. Reasonable prices, decent service, but nothing to write home about.

Great atmosphere

By EmPee2014 |

Very good service, fun atmosphere. Wings were great as was the beer selection. Very nice area in upper west side. Best of the bars we visited on Amsterdam. Food was above average and had great hard working bar tenders.

Very good food

By Michele L |

The food was very good and the service as well. We arrived just in time, as the place filled up quickly after 10:30 PM or so on a Thursday night.

Shame about the staff

By reece b |

Staff ( main waiter) was rude and unhelpful tables were too close together and when we tried to move them so we could sit down, he was rude and obnoxious even though we had no choice! There was only one table behind us and he could've walked around especially as it was empty! And he took a tip he did not deserve without asking! We won't return and we are big drinkers !

Friendly place/ nice vibs

By Ken S |

Good for a beer or lunch. Gluten free beer options. Great staff. Best for lunch. Turkey burger rubbery but hummus platter serviceable .

Great selection of beers

By Dean C |

Lovely place to watch the world go by. The selection of beers is amazing, you will not be disappointed there is something for everybody. The staff are welcoming and more than happy to assist in helping you choose the right beer.

Easy and Friendly Pub Fare inear Beacon Theater, NYC

By Deborah-AnnB |

Perfect pub food with great beer list. Burgers and beers and the best value. Entrees and salads are small compared to prices charged. Friendly staff. Close to Beacon Theater and parking garage.

Good Brews

By FunnyAnimal |

Lots of good choices of beers and wines. Appetizers and entrees are good too. Relaxed atmosphere. Good service. The pizza was great.

If you love "noisy", this is the place for you!

By AnnieOakley279 |

Needed to have dinner near The Beacon Theater (the yearly Doo Wop Show last night) so we tried The Amsterdam Ale House-good place for the "under 30" crowd-they have no trouble handling the noise and music----since they only communicate via their cell phones--definitely NOT the place for us over 50 crowd who still use the English language to converse with others------the host/wait staff was great-they were accommodating and patient---Had the Chicken Kebab which was a relatively tasty dish, a bit sparse on the portion---to say the least-a small bit of rice and some grilled cherry tomatoes---at a cost of $15.95---my friend enjoyed a HUGE bowl of Pasta a la Vodka with Chicken for $16.95---obviously the better choice. They do have a large selection of beer for those who love beer---I much prefer a quiet place for dinner, even if I have to pay a bit more for that luxury. All in all, not a bad place for a fast meal and a beer.

Grrat food and drink

By chrisnuch |

Went for a late lunch and found the food excellent. Had the tuna burger and friend had the shepherd's pie. Different preparation for shepherd's pie (tomato based) but very good!! Good whiskey selection as well. Highly recommended.

Perfect for our large group

By kennyp354 |

This place was great! We met some family members here after visiting the Museum, and had a large party of 10 (one in a wheelchair). The host accommodated us by finding two tables in the back room. Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly service. Exactly what we were looking for.

Great Beer

By Traveler10002 |

We went there two nights in a row. For a group of ten with kids they seated us quickly, lots of craft beers to choose from and a menu that satisfied the kids and the adults.

Casual, Friendly Staff, OK Food

By Madronaguy |

A large selection of beers & ales. Salads, sandwiches & pizza are the bulk of the menu. A nice spot just to drop in & relax

They Lost Their MoJo

By yatach |

We've been stopping at this popular restaurant at least once a year for many years - and always with good results. Our last visit in early June 2019 was a disappointment. I ordered a chicken fajita and the portion was miniscule. The plate was 3/4 beans and rice and 1/4 fajita. Not enough to fill 3 wraps. What little there was, was tasty. I ordered a 16 oz craft brew and later a 12 oz Corona bottle. I poured the Corona contents into the empty 16 oz glass only to find that it filled it up - meaning their glass is not holding 16 oz of beer (a bit of a scam there ). The best part of my dinner was a little tub of guacamole that came with the fajita. Very hot and spicy. I mentioned to my waiter the above considerations but he spoke to the manager and he didn't feel like making any kind of adjustments (like a bit more fajita or the missing 4 oz of beer) . My wife had ordered a pasta/chicken dish and it was tasty and a huge portion that most folks could never finish. We did get an outside table and we preferred that to the much noisier interior section. The bill came to $100 for a few beers and a meal so I would be likely to look around for someplace else next time.

Good inviting pub

By BOHSMAN |

Didn't eat here, just called in for drinks, good pub, food looked interesting though. Good beers, cocktails, would revisit.

Authentic

By Joe P |

Classic NY pub atmosphere mixed with an excellent beer selection and great food. Wings were excellent and burgers on an English muffin is a personal favorite of mine. If you want a legit NY bar this is the place.

SUPER PLACE TO EAT!!!

By Steve G |

Every time that I visit my daughter in NYC---I always treat her to the Amsterdam Ale House!!!!! Such a neat experience.....the food is fantastic.....the service is 5-star......just a great experience!!!!!! 😉

Great place

By Trish C |

Had an AMAZING time there over this past weekend went there all 3 nights we stayed in the upper West Side (76th & Amsterdam).... Good food and drinks, the wait staff were amazing and very attentive... Will be going back to NYC next month and will definitely be having drinks there again

Cool bar, busy

By tigg189074 |

My husband and I went in on a Sunday around 4:00 while football was on. The place was already packed so we stood and ordered a couple beers. The selection was really good, but it was hard to relax with it being that busy. there were so many people that it was hard to get close enough to the bar to order, but the bartenders were excellent at noticing you. The bar is nicely decorated - lots of wood and not a lot of lighting. It was a cool place to visit, but it would have been better if we could have relaxed and hung out .

Really good!

By michelle r |

Really good food, you really can’t go wrong in this place. Nice atmosphere, great staff and good for couples, friends and even family.

Great spot!

By Elyse M |

We went for dinner with my family and had a wonderful experience! The food is much better than you would expect from a pub house feel. I had the ahi tuna burger which was amazing! The fish and chips were bangin'! This is also a great drink spot

Great beer and food, nice interior

By jackm0use |

We met relatives for lunch since we were staying close to this ale house. We weren't disappointed. We all had sandwiches and burgers an everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The beer was decent too.

Good food and beer's

By Rmn515 |

Had a pizza and some beers here. It was good, served fast and kept um coming. Atmosphere is very local and casual. They have outside seating if it's a nice day or night out. We only had this one experience so I can't speak to any other of the food services or drinks, but would go back again for sure.

Great food!

By Lutontown1959 |

Went to this ale house a few times. The food was plenty and very tasty. Definitely a place to visit.

Nick H

By NKR98 |

Busy NY bar good atmosphere but food is terrible burgers are tasteless fries were undercooked and pasta was watery. Had to send our entrees back twice as we were still eating our starters. They should have spent the extra time cooking the fries.

Busy & friendly

By Oliver S |

After a devastating attempt at lunch at Olma Restaurant and Bar a few blocks from here (separate review, do yourself a favor and read it), we see this place busy and enter, still hungry and anxious to join the crowd of people obviously enjoying themselves. We sit at the bar and order drinks and food from a barmaid who seems to have seventeen hands and a limitless attention span – taking orders, delivering them, mixing drinks, and yet, finding time for a quick friendly word for every customer. The vodka here is only $12 (as opposed to $16 at the Russian place Olma) and comes in generous servings. Then the food: eggs Benedict, delicious, complete with salad and home potatoes, the steak&fries tender and crispy and totally satisfying. The check comes to $62 before tip (as opposed to $107 in Olma, a place we left hungry and angry just an hour earlier). **

VIP pre-show dinner before the Government Mule Concert

By Jaye11D |

Disappointed in the lack of food offered for anyone that has dietary constraints (gluten free). A small plate salad and a very salty chicken kabob? Not to mention there was very limited seating and no place to even put a drink.

Simple pub food

By Marco L |

Nice Dutch looking 'Bruine kroeg'. The food was simple but OK. Unfortunately only a few Dutch beers available (Heineken). The Mac n Cheese and fish and chips were fine.

Nice afternoon pub !

By jansjourneys |

Brother (from Oklahoma) and son (Brooklyn) and I met at the Museum of Natural History which brother had never been to. We were headed for lunch elsewhere but I spotted this place and so we went here. Son & I got craft beers. Reasonable. Good thing as a glass of wine (my usual choice) was 10 and up a glass. Brother got a bison burger and fries, I got fish & chips (I told the waiter I am 'between fish and chips and shepherd's pie.' Fish was very nicely cooked. Son got mac & cheese w bacon which he liked. Son & I got coffee. Nice staff, pleasant late afternoon in the rain. Total tap was 68 I think (brother got the tip)

A Sunday brunch favorite

By ManhattanMinuet |

The food selection is interesting and really well prepared. The crowd is lively and friendly. For a neighbourhood hangout that is warm and welcoming it can't be beat. Most of all, the waitstaff are exceptional, friendly and professional.

Sidewalk picnic table available

By Mary H |

We enjoyed a late lunch here, close to our hotel, The Lucerne, before leaving town. The picnic tables on the sidewalk are a treat, if you enjoy eating outside. Our server was attentive and the Angus burger and fries were delicious, as was the French onion soup that I shared with my daughter.

Nmnot so great

By Lisa P |

I had shakshuka, thinking an ethnic dish like this wouldn't be offered if they didnt know how to do it, which they dont. Eggs Benedict hollandaise sauce looks like it was out of a can and potatoes tasted like baked beans. Also, there is a surcharge if you pay with a credit card.

I reached non-tipping point

By Rich W |

There's a bit of a debate raging at the moment about the waitress (not at this restaurant!!) who put all over social media that she was disgusted about 'only' receiving a $70 tip on a $694 order. I happen to be one of the nasty Europeans she spoke of, and my views on tipping are as follows: as an accountant, I like to know in advance how much things are going to cost. It allows me to make informed decisions about where I'll go and what I'll do, where I eat and sometimes even what I eat. I'm not saying money is the only driver in any decision, but it would be foolish to pretend that it's not a factor at all. As a pre-cursor for everything which is to follow: I found eating in New York really expensive. Actually, I'll amend that: I found eating in Manhattan really expensive. I wasn't expecting to spend $5 on a meal, but I also wasn't expecting that any meal in any restaurant at all was going to be a minimum $80 for the two of us. Wait... I forgot to add the tax. Now we're up to $90. And now I have to build a tip into that - is the 20% (which seems to be the expected level) pre-tax or post-tax? Is my bill now $106 or closer to $110? We're talking about nearly £100 in pounds sterling for a burger and fries each, plus a drink or two? This is all a long way of saying that we (that is, Europeans, or Brits, or maybe just non-Americans) don't tip the same way you guys do. We say "keep the change" or "round it up to the next £10" or "stick 10% on top", but *only* if the service is good. It's not a mandated thing, it's not like I'm buying a DLC add-on for a video game I already bought. Service, and good service at that, should be a part of the business model, and therefore should be built into the price. Good service should be the norm, not something we have to pay extra for on top of the bill. A tip is a small thank you, not a material transaction. Did you know that in some Asian countries offering a tip is an insult? Their attitude is "you already paid for good service, so why do you feel the need to pay me again?" If you're wondering about why I'm writing this here, I'll explain. I don't blame this place for the tipping culture in Manhattan specifically, or New York more generally, or the USA even more generally. But when I read the debate going on online about tipping, with some New Yorkers even saying that the whole thing is getting out of hand, with people being chased out of restaurants for not tipping enough, people genuinely threatening other people for not sharing the same views or culture, I'm reminded strongly of the experience I had at this place. And for 65% of the time, it was positive. The rest.... We went in, a couple, looking for something quick and easy to eat. We were gonna go in the Shake Shack across the road, because, no messing around, my lady absolutely loves the Shake Shack. How she still weighs 110lbs fully clothed and dripping wet is beyond me. But we'd heard good things about the Amsterdam Ale House, and we decided to give it a go. I already said I found eating in NYC expensive, so you'll have to excuse me just a little here. But we ordered a burger and sweet potato fries each, and a drink. And the bill was a lot. In the UK we're looking at something like.... maybe £25-30, so somewhere south of $40 (total) for this, and we were happy to pay more, because, y'know, we're in Manhattan, etc etc. So we hung around, and chatted, and tried to have a chat with the server. Neither of us felt like he really wanted to chat, but that's ok, because he has a job to do and all that stuff. I tried a different beer, things are still ok. Then another group came in, and without exaggeration, they effectively swamped our table. There were about 14 of them, at a guess, and suddenly we were being knocked about, some guy who worked there dragged a table literally through the table we were sitting at as if it wasn't there, meaning I had to catch my drink. I had people leaning over me, bashing into me... at one point one of them said "watch out, he looks mad" (in Spanish) and the reply from the person careering into me while they were waiting for their table was "don't worry, he doesn't speak Spanish, who cares". (I do speak a little Spanish, not that it should have mattered). For about 15 minutes, we were loomed over, knocked into, chairs buffeted, table knocked around, spoken across, the lot. I tried to ask one of the people working there to move these people away from me, and got only a blank stare before he moved on. I asked the guy who had been serving us for the bill, he nodded, then didn't bring it. We waited about ten minutes, and my lady said "you know what, we're so invisible that if we walked out now they wouldn't even notice". We ended up going to the counter and asking again if we could pay. Again we were held up. The guy (the original server) just walked away from us. I stopped another guy (who happened to be the manager, not that I knew it until he told me) and asked HIM if we could pay. He said he'd get us the check, and I said "round it up to the next $10 and I'll pay that". This would have been about an $8-9 tip, from memory. But I was pretty bluntly told "we don't do that". He handed me the check, and asked me to fill in a tip which would be added on retroactively. Now, here's another small bone of contention. In the UK, and I'd guess most of the world, when you sign a credit card slip, you're signing for the amount which *has already gone through the EPOS system*. Your bill arrives, it's £100, printed right on the bill, you sign it, it gets paid. This nonsense about adding the tip on afterwards.... in the nicest way possible, you could add anything you want onto that slip. I could write $9 and you could make it 19, or 95. So to people from the UK, tipping in this way feels completely alien, and (more importantly) unsafe. Having been knocked around by both customers and staff, ignored, kept waiting, essentially being treated more like an inconvenience than a customer, and then at the end of that being told that I couldn't even *TIP* in the way I wanted to, I decided I'd just pay my bill and leave. I signed it, I put a cross through the tip section, and I started to leave. The manager picked up my clipboard, and literally stood in the way of my lady, who was trying to follow me, and shouted after me about the tip at the top of his voice. I said "I decided against it" and he literally would not let me go, demanding (and yes, that's the right word) an explanation about not tipping. I said to him in much shorter form what I've said here: a tip is a thank you, a gesture of appreciation for good service. It is NOT a mandated extra charge (if it is, then you should build it into the advertised prices and be clear that no additional tip is required, so people know what they're expected to pay), and I further explained that I felt it inappropriate to loudly demand an explanation from me in the middle of the busy restaurant when all I was trying to do was pay my bill and leave. I did not feel that the service I received warranted an extra payment from my pocket to theirs, and as such I didn't make one. Manager asked for an explanation, so here it is, I guess. So, I guess, in short form, here's my review: The food was nice enough. I had the bison burger, which was a good burger, and the sweet potato fries, which were genuinely nice. My lady had a different burger, which was nice, and also the sweet potato fries. The prices were a lot, for what it was - as I mentioned before I'd have expected to pay about 55-60% of what we paid, for the same thing, in the UK. Then you have to add the tax on. The Brooklyn beer I had was really nice, it went well with the food. Possibly the best pint (or 16oz, which is about 80% of an actual pint) I had while in New York. The service was good until it wasn't, and we left without tipping not because we were mad, but because we believe that a tip is an extra which reflects the entire experience being positive, and ours just wasn't. We would have stayed for another drink quite happily, until the other group arrived and were given carte blanche. Overall: Food 4/5 Drinks 5/5 Prices 2/5 Atmosphere 3/5 Service 2/5

Great beer, great service.

By Alice O |

We had a few beers here in the afternoon. Great selection of beers and really good ambience. The bar was busy at times, but the bartender was excellent.

Credit card sucharge!

By MichaelRW |

While this is good pub fare with good service, I was shocked to find a surcharge for paying on credit card when I had seen nothing to indicate that this was their policy. Food and drink for two totalled almost $100, a tip and the surcharge put it well over that, and that is not a cheap pub meal.

I'd be back

By Maxwell R |

Great range of beers in an Irish/sports bar. Good service and the food came out quickly. Bison burger was excellent. Normally I'd award four stars but I hooked-up with a pretty girl I meet at the bar, so that earns them an extra star in my book.

Enjoyable Afternoon

By Ctcleveland |

Stopped in today for lunch after a day trip to the American Museum of Natural History. Good crowd- mix of neighborhood and visitors. Pleasant staff. Brunch on Sunday until 4. The Amsterdam omelette was delicious. A good selection of craft beer on tap.

Great little find

By Yvonne C |

We are a family of 4 and struggled to find anywhere which didn’t just serve burgers and chicken tenders! This place was close to our hotel, it has a great atmosphere and a nice buzz about the place. The food was great and service was excellent. Really tasty food and reasonably priced too. There are large tv screens around the place playing sports game which was great for keeping the kids entertained. We loved it so much we went 2 nights in a row! Would highly recommend.

Rats running around

By dpakman91 |

I normally don't eat at restaurants that are a B NYC Food Safety rating, but my friends insisted. After our food was served, a rat started running around the restaurant, terrorizing customers and staff alike, bumping directly into the hostess' feet. Does it even matter what I say about the food, since there were rats running around? They were nice enough to give us a discount off of our food because there were rats running around. Considerate, I suppose.

Great Late Night Food/Drink Establishment

By Jaydoc_L_A |

I visited NYC for a brief time to give a talk there. I stayed at NYOLA, around the corner froim the Amsterdam Ale House. My plane was late arriving (big surprise), and I needed somewhere near the hotel for a very late dinner. AAH is open until 4am, with the restaurant open till 2am. Perfect! The food is basic bar/pub fare. I had a bison burger, and it was quite good. The portions were very large, more than enough. It's called an "ale house" and they had numerous craft beers on tap. But I had a cocktail, and the bartender was excellent. Living in L.A. and being an amateur mixologist, my cocktail standards are high, and this bar's work was up to par. The environment was dark wood, old school, comfortable, with several sports programs on flat screen TV's around the establishment (muted). So if you're in the upper West Side and need a good craft beer, cocktail or late night dinner, I'd recommend the Ale House. I'd go back, which is the best I can say about a restaurant.

Great place.

By Bobsledcharlie123 |

We stayed at the Wallace, which is right up the street, and naturally, since it was so close, ate at the Ale House. I thought it was great. We watched the last quarter of the Super Bowl here and had a blast. Great service and food. Nice folks. We ate here three different times, and it was good every single time. Next time this southern boy is back in the city, I’ll hit it again.

Great Pup Environment

By CLCropsey |

Great pub environment & very comfortable. Plenty of televisions for watching sports. Excellent Beer list (tap & bottles alike) Food was extremely good! I had the tuna burger - which was fantastic! Onion rings on the side were also excellent. Server/bartender was friendly and helpful - very welcoming. Definitely worth checking out. I went for a late lunch - so it was quiet, but I have a feeling it would be a perfect gathering place for a big game.

good food, reasonable prices near Beacon Theatre

By Amyice |

My husband and I and our 9 year old went here before a show at the Beacon Theatre. Located close to the theatre. The place looks like your average bar-restaurant. Seating is close together, but that is NYC. We had the Bison Burger, Vegetable wrap, & pasta with butter. Desert was profiteroles (these were great!). One drink a martini (good and only $7) We enjoyed all of our food and prices were reasonable especially for NYC. Our waitress and the service was good. If we ever go to the Beacon again we will definitely go here again.

Brilliant

By Hannah T |

I came here with my husband. The bar staff were friendly and the Ale variety was fabulous. We thought that it was a lovely Friday night activity, filled with all ages.

great location, fine service, neighborhood bar w/ lots of class and fine service

By Ralph Wilhelm |

Just had drinks and snacks before leaving for dinner and a concert but a great place to stop for drinks, snacks or a full meal. Service behind the bar and the servers were terrific. A bit crowded on a weekend but to be expected in NYC, particularly on a holiday weekend. Easy to find, north-west corner of Amsterdam and 76th on upper west side. Also if you want a slightly quieter place in the bar/restaurant, suggest asking for a table in their back room; significantly less noise. Either way though a fine place for drinks and a snack.

quick lunch/snack

By Tina S |

great local bar, good value good, wide selection of beers. Service very good, Would recommend for snaks and lunch

Comfort Food

By BriaBoston |

On a rainy/icy February night, this place was perfect. No complex foods here - but food good enough that you walk out satisfied and content. A nice large selection of ales, friendly and attentive service. Salads, burgers, tacos, mac and cheese. Our lamb burgers perfectly prepared and deliciously juicy. Salad a standard package affair, but fine.

City pub

By David E |

Authentic neighborhood bar on Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The food was good, simple pub fare.

Pretty good

By lilyb222201 |

The food was very good for a bar type of dining. Service was good but a bit slow. Very well priced and affordable. This was perfect for the location

A great place to feel the vibe of New York

By Bobsledcharlie123 |

My wife and I were there twice this weekend. We are Southerners, and the servers and staff made us feel right at home. Anytime we are in New York, we eat here at least a couple of times. It’s just such a cool friendly place. The food is really good, and the service is top notch. I recommend this place to anyone who is staying in the area. We love it.

Lots of craft beer and more

By VéroB |

My spouse and I stopped in for a nightcap. Tables are for food service only, but the bar was fine. Very good selection of craft beer, and several bourbons at different levels. We did end up getting some chips and salsa and it was satisfying. If I had had a chance, I would have come back.

Really Good Salads

By Christine M |

I didn't expect the salads to be as healthy and tasty as they were. We ate here several times during our NYC visit. The deep dish nachos were good, as were the buffalo wings. But the beet and goat cheese salad was the star. Good value, too. Our server was pleasant and professional.

Local spot, great food

By NYCHotelManager |

Pub, sports bar, dark wood, great beer, good food, local clientele and attentive staff make this a winner. Good choice in food, kids welcome in the back room. Popular in nice weather, cozy in the rain.

Your basic beer pub

By Paul B |

Prices are a bit highbut they have a fairly good selection of micro brews. Service was prompt andfriendly.

Good late lunch!

By Lcl2000 |

We arrived in NYC mid afternoon and stopped in while exploring the neighborhood. Very good hamburgers and great choice of beers. Sitting by the windows we really got a feel of the people and shops on Amsterdam Avenue.

Nice Pub Atmosphere Great Beer Selection

By R R |

A nice little casual pub with above average food and an excellent beer selection. Service was top notch with an attentive wait staff. Spinach quesadilla was good and my wife's Greek salad with chicken was tasty and almost too much to finish.

Good time had

By Kevin_Manchester_UK |

Spent a pleasant afternoon here in June watching World Cup Football and racking up a fairly sizeable afternoon beer tab. As a UK resident it's not an area of the world I am in often, but I'd happily come back here.

Late Night Dining

By Keith B |

The was the perfect place for late night dining on the UWS. The service was great and so was the food. I'd highly recommend.

Good stop before a show

By Rick C |

The atmosphere was good, very energetic, your classic restaurant tavern. Service was excellent very attentive and friendly. However the food was only average although it was good enough for a tavern. I would recommend the Amsterdam Ale House.

Excellent burgers, good service

By WestSideKid |

Came here with friends after visiting museum of natural history. Menu has a good selection of angus burgers as well as bison burger. Meat was cooked to perfection, excellent service, very quick. Can chose sweet potato fries with burger, which were also very good. Nice selection of beers, many on tap.

Great service.......will definitely return 👌👌👌

By Aisling C |

Heard lots about Amsterdam Ale House so had to try for myself. Was visiting family for thanksgiving from Ireland with my brother and we stopped in one night. We were not disappointed at all. My first beer wasn't the best (think it was the end of the keg) which was very quickly changed for another recommendation and I was very happy. Rebecca was the amazing bar tender serving us. Great personality. Nothing was too much trouble for her. I would highly recommend this place for it's staff and great beers. Will be back again and try the food next time 😁👌👌

Try the Shepherd's Pie!

By Melanie T |

Heavenly, rich and flavorful, and served in a tiny cast-iron skillet. They also do a good fish and chips.

Pre Holiday Jam Dinner

By Abby W |

Love the atmosphere here! The burgers are awesome and so are the onion rings! A great place to have a quick bite if you are going to a show at the Beacon Theater.

Great place

By missymoo1976 |

Very good food

By Kevin Conroy |

A small but interesting restaurant. We ate outside as it was noisy inside. Excellent variety of interesting beer and very good food.

Great place!

By Clint H |

We had lunch and dinner here. The atmosphere is very cool and cozy. The food was good, especially the cheesesteak. We will definitely be back!

Prior to Beacon Concert

By Phil W |

Wife and I had no reservation prior to a Tuesday night concert at the Beacon. When arrived around 545 p.m, were able to get a seat. Restaurant filled up quickly after that. Wife had a Turkey Club, I a Cheese Steak Sandwich. Nothing spectacular. Had to wait for second round of beer, even though it appeared that wait staff assisted each other. For standard fare in short walking distance to Beacon, place to go.

good food, bartender/waitress was awesome

By GJColorado |

We came here on our arrival to New York City (tired, hungry, etc). The waitress welcomed us. We shared an excellent sandwich and sweet potato fries. The salsa and chips were ok but the salsa was bottled and not up to the standards of Colorado salsa. What really made the restaurant was the friendliness of the waitress. Whatever we asked for she provided willingly.

Warm and pleasant pub style

By OzFamily50 |

A great place to drop in to try a wide selection of beers and enjoy some hearty pub style food. The Ale House has a warm feel and the staff are friendly and welcoming. WE had burgers which were very tasty and hit the spot. Not fine dining but a delivers on expectations.

Great place to go

By tomshaw186 |

This place was a great little diamond. The food portions were great, the food tasted amazing and the service was warming. The waitress even told us that the portions are very large and we have ordered too much.... which we did. So i thank her for her honesty

Great Bar, avg food

By iphonenyc |

If you're looking for a bar this is a good UWS spot. Woody, dark, friendly staff, windows to the street and many good beers on tap. No problem there. The food is just average (or worse). It feels like everything started as frozen. So the burgers are dry and tasteless but the once frozen onion rings are yummy. The food may be hit or miss. But go have a beer and you'll leave with a smile on your face.

Perfect!

By SomuNewark_DE |

We had drinks and dinner before a concert at the Beacon Theater. Everything was fantastic, the location, the food and the servers!!!!! Fabulous

Love this place!

By JG717 |

This is a must stop for us each time we are in NYC. Love the food and the beer selection is great! We can always get a seat, friendly wait staff and no long waits for anything.

A good spot for early evening drinks and food.

By Ian H |

The Amsterdam Ale House is great for an early evening drink, with a good selection of draft and bottled beers. We found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The food was quick in coming and tasty - typical American portions - Huge! We visited three times, during our recent stay and enjoyed sitting at the bar.

Awesome burgers!

By Larriza |

I tried a lamb burger with beer onions and my husband a bison burger with sweet french fries with cinnamon and sugar. Delicious! Nice beers too. Very pleasant place.

Worth a visit

By Myron K |

Great pub - very crowded - nice selection of beers and good people watching. deffinately worth a visit - did not have any food here

Nice restaurant

By roogirl1978 |

Wonderful staff, good food, great bar. Nice dinner and beer selections. Enjoyed the sidewalk dining experience!

Great place for a beer and a bite

By skinnyjim2016 |

We stopped here before a show at the Beacon. Perfect location. The service was great, the beer choices diverse, and the food was fresh and filling. Definitely will visit the next time we are in NYC

BE VERY CAUTIOUS IF PAYING WITH CASH.

By Quest324262 |

IF PAYING CASH, HAVE IT COUNTED AT YOUR TABLE!!! $60 DOWN. WE HAD CHECKED WHAT WE GAVE THE STAFF MEMBER THREE TIMES. WE HAVE VISITED NUMEROUS TIMES AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE :-(

Pre-Show Meal Before Beacon Theater Concert

By Meg O |

The service was very fast and attentive at Amsterdam Ale House. Plenty of choices on the menu and beer list for anyone’s taste. Shared the Twisted Tots and Mozzarella Sticks for an appetizer. Went with the Ahi Tuna Burger and it didn’t disappoint. I figure if you run a restaurant in such a nice area as the upper west side, it has to be great. Stop here before or after your next visit to the Beacon.

Great burgers, buzzing bar

By Hanykha |

I went here for a late night burger and it was very busy, with a football game on the screens. But the staff were very welcoming and the food prompt and good. I recommend.

Convenient for Beacon Theater - Good for basic bar food

By Springtraveler06 |

Best to travel in pairs or split up if part of a group unless you can afford a long wait. Decent, promptly served burgers & other fare. Very popular Happy Hour so that bar patrons are 3-4 rows deep. Kudos to our outstanding server, Valerie, who was gracious, competent and attentive despite a crush of customers. Also the hostess was very helpful as we assessed options.

Good beers, average burgers

By Yeltzer |

We came here on our first night in NYC on recommendation from a friend. The selection of beers is great and I enjoyed sampling quite a few! However the burgers were a disappointment. Hard English muffin bread used to sandwich the patty and it just didn’t work. The blue cheese was far too strong and the fries were just ok. Difficult to recommend for food. But beers get a big tick.

Open late, near Beacon, basic pub fare

By shozgirl |

We were looking for something but most spots were closing. Happy to find this bar/pub with great selection of beers and small menu. One had veggie burger and salad. Other had burger with sweet potato fries. They were ok- asked for medium was really well. Service outside was spotty. But served the purpose and dont think bar should be to high. At a bar LOL. Been there a log time.

Great pub food; Friendly staff

By Molly B. |

We were staying at a nearby hotel; every meal we had there was very good, it was summer, so we had salads with protein. Always delicious and on time.

Good food

By jimbeamandcoke |

Had a meal with the family, it’s quite dark inside but had different TVs going with different baseball games, good menu and good value, nice server knew her stuff, food came quickly

A bit pricey but good atmosphere.

By Si M |

I really enjoyed eating here. Food was good, as was the waitress service. As sports bars go I was impressed with this place - Mac and cheese is a must...with bacon.

Happy to recommend this place..

By GandR183 |

Great spot for a drink. Staff are friendly, engaging and welcoming. Drinks are well priced. We didn’t have dinner, just drinks and snacks, but we had a great time there. A good and convenient location - happily recommend!

Good neighborhood bar for a bite and good beer

By Seungwon Jung |

Good neighborhood pub- good beer selections on tap with average food but a great hang out place with TVs for game watching and fast wifi!

If you are going to the Beacon Theater....

By twin123185 |

Great spot for a pre Beacon Theater show meet. Crazy atmosphere and great drinks. Food was so so. The Mac and cheese was too watery for me but still tasted ok. Not great. 3 stars for the food. 5 for the booze and atmosphere.

Good atmosphere, plenty of food

By graham w |

Ate in here twice (so must be OK as I went back). First time was on a busy evening and service was good as was the food. Second time was mid-day on a Friday so the place was quieter. Service was good again and the food plentiful. Prices are about average. If you are a beer drinker there's a good selection on offer.

Good beer, good food, good service

By bmpaczak |

We were coming back from a Friday evening at the Met and stopped in for dinner and a drink on the way to our hotel in the neighborhood. It served us well for dinner and drinks. They had a nice selection of local beers. Food was typical pub menu. My wife had a burger and I had fish and chips. We split mozzarella sticks. Portions were generous and food came out quickly and hot. Service was very good, staff was timely to check on us, refill drinks, clean plates, etc. Overall a nice night out.

Pub Dinner

By SAS |

When you’ve had enough of cafes and just need a different setting, this place is a good option. A pub with a traditional feel. Good music and some wonderful craft beers to try. Good pub menu with a range of choice. Service was happy and quick but not in your face. Food is reliable.

Nice Pub Restaurant

By Hannah S |

Good, affordable food. Typical pub style restaurant, food was fresh and quick to table and server was very friendly and accommodating.

Fun

By Roos K |

Food was good as wel as the beer (and cider). It was busy and therefor loud but we still had a good time.

Nice meal, great choice of beers

By Graham M |

Visited twice on a recent visit to New York. Had two decent meals with good service (especially the first day when it was quiet - about 4PM). Fantastic choice of beers - most at $8. Well worth a visit if in the neighbourhood

Not a place for family

By Russ L |

My 12 year old wanted a Mac and cheese and a Cesar salad. $22 and the salad was lacking. Cannot recommend for a quick family meal.

Great Ale and Good Food

By Tim P |

We visited here because it was close to our hotel The Beacon. There is a large selection of real ale, and all of the ones I had were excellent. The staff are very friendly and there is a good food selection. It is good honest American fayre and typically large portions. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

A bit disappointing

By FMMG |

We've been to Amsterdam Ale House on previous visits to NYC. We mostly go just for a drink at the bar. They have a great selection of craft beers and service at the bar is excellent. This time we decided to have supper there and were served the worst club sandwich we've ever had. We ordered 2 drinks but only got one of them....had to hunt down the waitress to eventually get the other one. There was a couple sitting near us who told the waitress their friend was just about to join them and could they move to a table for 4 ( there were lots of empty tables). They were told no and an extra chair was placed in the passageway beside their table for their friend. They weren't happy and eventually just moved themselves to the table for 4. I would have just left & gone someplace else. We arrived fairly late one evening just wanting a drink as we had already eaten but as all the seats at the bar were full we were refused entry(!) by the "greeter" and told we weren't allowed to sit at a table unless we were going to order food. I could have absolutely understood this if it hadn't been so late and the fact that the place was very quiet. An odd attitude towards paying customers. It's a shame.

Good solid burgers and beer

By Tally11111 |

A group of four had great burgers and f Drinks at this uws eatery. Good beer and burger selection ( beef, bison, turkey veg) and friendly efficient service.

Great food in true New York style

By Karen C |

Best place to get great food from sandwiches, salads, soups, fish tacos, and have all of your family or friends rave about their food. We had excellent service while watching US Open matches. Highly recommend

Great place for a less formal meal UWS

By Ellen CT and NYC |

Not wanting to spend a huge amount of money, a friend and I took a chance on this place and enjoyed it very much. I had a pizza which was very good but the burger was served on an English muffin which did not work as other reviewers have described. The atmosphere was lively and the beer selection was crazy huge - 2 Full pages at the start of the menu.

Good food, nice outside seating

By amsterdam05 |

We had to wait a couple of minutes before we could be seated at an outside table. We ordered one fish and chips, one cup of chicken noodle soup and one glass of dry cider. The food came rather quick, was very well prepared and very tasty. The cider was nice, dry and refreshing. Very friendly service. With a total bill of 45$ including tax and tip good value for money

Terrible service and food

By Scott G |

This was one of the worst restaurants that I have been to in nyc in years.first of all the service staff was and rude and slow, and second the food was all over cooked, and that’s pretty bad for hamburgers and hotdogs.this was my second time here and definitely my last

Great atmosphere, excellent beer selection

By Ocean266 |

I'm not much of a bar person but this place was special. I loved the wood paneled ceiling. We just came in for a beer so I cannot comment on the food.

Solid

By PaulFradin |

Great beers; nice outside seating; burger was ok; chicken kebab was pretty good; quesadilla was excellent. Good neighborhood joint

"Lukewarm Experience"

By JFK49 |

My wife and I had a sidewalk table on a balmy Friday night in November; go figure. On a positive note, the beer selection was very good and my burger was very tasty. Unfortunately, my wife's Hangar Steak was very tough and the waitress was brusque and nonexistent for the majority of the meal; I had to flag another server for the check. Lukewarm at best.

Poor service, mediocre food

By Endeee |

Hostess was great. And that’s it. Manager just walked around seemingly doing nothing. Bartender, who also took our food order, was unfriendly. Just wasn’t in the mood to be there. Never came back to ask if everything was ok or if we needed another drink etc. Drinks were flat as others mentioned. Food was mediocre at best. There are many better places that deserve your business! Pass on this one.

High prices

By Mini_Adventure2009 |

Atmosphere very good, service good, but let down by very high prices. $40 for 5 drinks, two of which were kids' apple juice. Perhaps I need to be specific and ask for a small rose or a cheap ale if there is such a thing in NYC?

friendly neighborhood bar and grill

By ron s |

This is a favorite pub in the area. A reasonably priced menu with a variety of American pub fare. Service has always been excellent with immediate attention from ordering through food delivery to table hot from the kitchen, refilling drinks, and eventually clearing the table and presenting the bill. When dining at late mid-day or early evening a relatively quiet atmosphere prevails. As the sun sets the sociable crowd and the noise picks up. You can choose your dining style accordingly.

Really liked this tavern

By Nank135 |

We went here for dinner before show at The Beacon. I had the pasta primavera and it was EXCELLENT. A little garlicky but delicious nonetheless. Husband had a cheesesteak and enjoyed it. We had a few beers before the show. Would recommend to people who love tavern type bars with food. Then we walked over to the Beacon and went in the back door and did not even wait in line!

Great spot for drinks before headed to Beacon Theater

By Claudine A |

Stopped for drinks before show. Was crowded has small area in back to sit for probably 5 people. They serve food but we didn’t order.

Dinner before the Beacon

By Tara M |

Great location - close to Beacon Theater and fun atmosphere inside (though some parts are under renovations). Service was great. Beer selection was ample. My fish tacos were just delicious!! The shepherd’s pie was a bit disappointing. Fish and chips and burger were both fine. Prices were very good for NYC. I’d go back!

Good pub food!

By DianneB02169 |

This restaurant was very reasonable and had nice cold beer on a very hot July day. Great location and cool atmosphere.

Good food

By Lies D |

Cosy atmosphere, kinda dark lighting. Great choice of beers from around the world. Had the fish tacos, which were very nice. Partner had angus beef burger, which was mediocre due to the fact that he forgot to choose extras like tomato. Beef in itself was good. Very fast service.

Okay

By Walter F |

Get a room in the back and it will be much quieter. Skip sodas as they are flat. Onion soup was cold with little onions. Nachos were good.

Good pub

By MissAd2610 |

Food was very good, there were burgers with fries. The service was also very good! Ale House Ambience with Guinness! If we were here any longer we would come back.

convenient

By dalm0m |

We stopped in for a drink after a concert at the Beacon. The beer selection was great. The wine selection left a lot to be desired; the glasses & the pours were small. Even at 11 pm on a weeknight the place was fairly crowded. The staff was very nice. All the food that passed by us looked delicious. We will probably pop in again next time we go to the Beacon.

Wish I'd gone hungry

By THEBFB |

In short - we got here at noon after a hearty breakfast so stayed just for one drink. Good service, excellent range of beers - but the food menu looked tremendous! It seemed to have everything you want in bar food - looked great when coming out - I have no doubt had we eaten there Amsterdam would have got 5 stars

Meeting a friend for dinnet

By Cindy D |

3 eating evening meal from burger, pizza, mac n cheese, food lovely staff very helpful, very nice evening

Nice pre concert meal

By kborden195 |

Had dinner before a show at the Beacon. It was not an original idea. They do not take reservations on concert nights so you need to get there early. Based on the suggestion of the person we called for a reservation we arrived at 5:45 and there were still tables available. It fills up quickly after that and they require that everyone in your party be present to be seated. Our food was very good and they have a pretty good beer selection. Warning for the claustrophobic - they pack a lot of people into a small space.

Nice place for a drink

By AnanB |

We popped in here for a drink after eating elsewhere, it was quite quiet but they have a good range of beers, including a really nice wheat beer. I hadn't realised how popular craft beer is in NYC!

Contrary review

By Adrian K |

Great food great staff - apart from one!!! She knows who she is. She was rude, curt, unhelpful ( in our opinion - not hers!) and I am not sure, but maybe she has no idea that she an attitude problem, until my son, who cannot let these go, confronted her with the manager and asked her if we had somehow offended her. Her answer was interesting, as my son relayed, in that she was sorry if her American "directness" had not been to our liking. Clearly she was under the impression that our "English reserve senitiivy" had been effected by her directness. We have been coming through to NC for 10 year and fully versed in American directness which we love. I am from Yorkshire and believe me my son is well versed in directness. All our family agreed that we should be spending a night in NYC not having an ill mannered waitress being the predominant topic of conversation. It's a shame because it's a great bar and the food and drink are good (nor cheap - but upper West side NYC so what do you expect!) as are the rest of the staff are first rate.

Great place

By Gunz |

Amsterdam Ale house never disappoints. I've been there with my wife and friends and it's consistently good. The beer selection is very and I would recommend the lamb burger and pulled pork sandwich. Both come with sweet potato fries, which are some of the best I've ever had. Plus, there's outdoor seating.

Excellent

By MaryGlendinning |

We ate at this restaurant three times during our weeks stay at a closeby hotel. The restaurant caters for all tastes whether it be sitting inside or outside. Good food, tasty Ale and great service.

Good pub for a burger and/or beer

By Sandy5611 |

This is a regular American pub. Good for food and/or drinks. Inside very noisy (loud voices), outside more quiet.

Great friendly place

By neil Stephenson |

Well we stayed just round corner from here and I'm so glad we did what a gem of of a place we went in here a few times for drinks and enjoyed the Brooklyn larger at 8 dollers and food well bloody lovely and not badly priced the 3 of us had lamb burger, turkey burger and salad with chicken breast washed down with bottle of wine to the cost of £74 which in NYC isn't to bad highly recommend this place 🗽😋😄

Close to Hotels

By Clark A |

Just two blocks from our hotel (BelleClaire) and not on noisy Broadway. Good selection of lighter ales and as others have said, the food was well above general pub food. The turkey-bacon wrap was quite tasty. The service is good and we actually came twice for an early dinner. My wife had the grilled cheese and insisted it was the best one she had ever had. The selection of ales was a bit narrow but otherwise a good spot.

Great beer selection

By Kirsten O |

I popped into this Ale House after a long walk around Central Park. This is a great, wood clad, atmospheric place, with a great selection of beers. It is a nice change from the many Irish bars in the city. Friendly service too. Unfortunately I only had time for one beer.

Great place for quick dinner and family friendly

By debbie-foster-fuchs |

We were in New York with family/nephews and this was a great restaurant that could easily seat our big group with many different choices - something for everyone including the kids. Food was great!

Nice beer selection

By rsquaredb |

Nice selection of tap and bottled/caned beers from all over. It was a nice day so we sat outside at a small picnic table and watch the world go by. The staff was very attentive and the food was good. I wasn’t crazy about the sweet potato fries (subjective). It was also dog friendly outside. Staff brought water bowls for the dogs. Close to the Beacon Theater, museums and Central Park.

Great Family Reunion

By drphil2 |

Over thanksgiving weekend I wanted to arrange for a family reunion of about 23 people on the Upper West Side. Most places I contacted wanted a set menu with a minimum. Few had private rooms and those who did wanted very high fees plus a set menu. I contacted Eric Cross, the manager at the Amsterdam Ale house who offered me exactly what I needed. Our family met Saturday morning at 11 and had a wonderful time. They provided us a back room area that was as private as we could have wanted and allowed us to order off the regular menu. The wait staff could not have been more accommodating. The food and service were terrific and we remained at the restaurant until 1:30. Bravo Eric and the entire staff. What a wonderful experience.

Excellent West 70's Local

By XSki007 |

Great to find this in NYC - a great looking and sounding bar where you can sit at the bar and drink, and people watch and have a few laughs. Excellent place to go before and after The Beacon. Great food, fun place to hang.

Tasty

By Canaryalex |

Went for a burger - the sweet potato cinnamon fries were nice; would recommend. Excellent selection of ales (unsurprisingly really) and a good atmosphere too.

Disappointment

By Efi A |

I was disappointed, broccoli soup was tasty, but the lamb burger was dry and not worth the extra $ 2 for the dish, the taste of the meat was not my cup of tea

First stop in town Cozy little Ale House

By Lisa R |

She had an draft beer, He had a coffee, They both enjoyed a delicious piece of Turtle cheesecake. Ale House with a full bar, serves food. Quick table service.

It was okay...other brew pubs are better.

By GF66 |

We walked from our hotel. The first two beers I wanted that were on the menu weren't available. Server was not willing to offer suggestions after I struck out. Food was your typical bar food. Nothing spectacular.

Nice Beer selection

By Salexander99 |

Stopped in here recently and had a very good time. The name of the place suggested that they would have a nice beer selection and they did. Ordered some tasty apps and just had a nice time here. Not a pretentious place either, just a bar, just what I like!

Great Place to Unwind

By CaptDad42 |

If you're looking for a casual atmosphere to engage in discussion with family or friends, the Amsterdam Ale house is a great place to stop. There are many beers on tap, great burgers and appetizers, as well as other food offerings to satisfy your palate. Now that the weather is nice, there is also outdoor seating. It's one of my favorite stops when on the west side in the 70's.

One of our favorites

By rhucks2 |

Amsterdam Ale House is our go-to bar/restaurant when staying in Manhattan. Just the right balance between service and attitude. Everything we've ordered has been delicious. The servers are terrific. Drinks good. Location can't be beat. What's not to love. Thanks! We'll be back (hopefully) soon!

Wonderful Sunday Football Lunch Spot

By William M |

My wife and I really enjoyed having lunch here. She had a club sandwich with black bean soup (which she would recommend) and I had a spicy chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Both were great. The seating is a little tight, but there was little wait and televisions, with NFL games, everywhere. It was a really pleasant lunch.

Can't get past the chicken wings!

By sprig511 |

We lived nearby 15 years ago and have talked fondly for years about the delicious buffalo wings! We brought our kids and kept our fingers crossed it lived up to our hype! It was EXACTLY as we remembered it. Even the playlist was the same. Thank you we will be back!

Great service

By Stephanie Lynn ... H |

Late night service was exceptional for our party of 9 and the food was great! Seated fairly quickly and the food came out quickly!

For Beer lovers

By Chris w |

Excellent Beer, pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon. Just what I wanted. Close to Central Park; give it a go.

Great selection of Beer but don't eat here

By helenjk |

Probably the worst cheese steak I have ever had a slab of baguette filled with a gloop of cheese and what was supposed to be sirloin steak.

Angry Bartender

By Marcos C |

Really bad, the bartender was angry, I ask for sample of a beer and he get upset saying "Do you think this place is a market???" and he gave me the small glass of beer reluctantly... I don't wanna get back to this place

Not a fan!

By Monica S |

The food is terrible- sweet potato fries weren't even crisp, California club sandwich wasnt great just covered in cheese, and service was horrible

Large range of beer

By Siklopse1 |

Good selection of beer and a decent menu makes this a worthwhile stop on the Upper Westside. Dimly lit, but good value.

Cool place. Service could be better.

By Thomas K |

Cool place. Liked the look and vibe. Thought prices were a bit high for appetizer we had. What struck me was the bartender was not very friendly. Surprised as it was early on a Saturday and not real busy yet but he was very inattentive. Considering tips are important….. I still tipped him nicely as I know they depend on it but would appreciate more attentive and friendly service.

Went for a drink . . . .

By Lizzie B |

but left after just one ! The beer was VERY good, an american porter, but the volume of a small group of people was just too much and their over the top reactions to EVERYTHING was nauseating ! A real shame as I had been looking forward to tasting a selection of their ales !

Nice place, Over priced

By Jeffrey M |

A couple of friends of mine dropped in before a show at The Beacon Theater. The place was packed with football watchers and really no room for anyone at the bar. With that said, we decided the 5 of us would sit at a table and order drinks, now keeping in mind we had time to spend enjoying drinks, after we were sat and our drink orders were taken we were told we couldn't sit at a table unless we ordered food. We all looked at this girl and laughed seeing as we just ordered about $70 in beer, shots and cocktails. Another girl rudely came over and explained she had 5 people who wanted to order food and we would have to move when we got our drinks. Well again we laughed and told her to get lost, we didn't need food and would be spending more on drinks then the folks would be spending on food.. Well when we asked for a 2nd round we were handed our bill and asked to " squeeze in" somewhere by the bar...sorry not even a single sheet of paper would have been able to fit anywhere near the bar, so we just paid the bill and left....no tip for being rude and not even taking into consideration that the bar mark up is far better than the food mark up and we would've easily spent upwards of $ 200 in there before applied tip, but screw them as they only seem to be interested in selling food considering they are an ale house...perhaps if the time of week were different, it would have been a bit different as far as the " seating rules" but I doubt it...never again..Lot's of other choices in the area....

Fun atmosphere

By JAAJr58 |

Reasonable prices and lots of young, middle aged folks. Very airy and good bartenders. Good location,
