Wonderful place!

By Lingwei H |

The first time to try Turkish food and this is perfect place to taste it! The service was great and explained patiently each food. And price was very decent honest price. I would go back again!

Such great value for lunch!

By rh24 |

After eating a skimpy $40 breakfast that morning I just could not believe what a great value this lunch was at $18 plus tax. It came with complimentary fresh Turkish bread and a lovely tapenade. I chose the lentil soup -- flavorful and wholesome -- followed by the doner platter that was really generous, hearty and satisfying. When I am in the area I end up stopping by here because of their basic but fresh Turkish food and am never disappointed.

Excellent food.....great appetizers and great food. Service was excellent as well. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner

Disappointed

By drmarge90 |

After reading many trip advisor reviews looking for a pre-theatre lunch place we decided on AnTalia. The waiter was impatient with us, did not seem to understand some of our requests and was slow to bring the food. We ordered the vegetable casserole which was not a casserole at all, but some veggies in a tomato broth. It was not even well seasoned. At the end of the meal when we were ready to go, the waiter that was rushing us to order could not be found to bring us the check. No one ever asked us if we were doing well or enjoying our meal.

Very good

I eat here every few weeks. Have Shepard’s salad and chicken Adana with rice, onion and cabbage. Food is good and service is quick. Nice bread. Lunch special is $21.95 and a good price.

MJOR DISSAPOINTMENT

By Alexander M |

Let me say right off that my wife and I used a Groupon for dinner at this restaurant. Sadly, AnTalia does not get the concept of a Groupon i.e. put your best foot forward and gain a regular customer, They presented a low end menu that people with a Groupon may order from. The food was fair and the wine was dreadful (warm and clearly stored badly). The waiter accidentally knocked the wine bottle over (accidents happen) and the it smashed to the floor (spraying on my shirt, pants and my wife's sandals). I joked that the wine got what it deserved. The waiter replaced the broken bottle with an already opened, partially used bottle that someone had most likely sent back. We didn't drink it and it's fair to say we were disappointed in this restaurant and will probably not be returning.

Good food, great baklava

By Richard M |

I picked AnTalia with only a few hours notice based on OpenTable showing which restaurants were available. Given it was last minute and a Saturday, I fully expected that we would be scraping the bottom of the barrel. In reality, the food was very good. I had the big helping of the classic gyro while lovely bride has the appetizer sampler place. The gyro was very tasty. Maybe just a tad dry but really nicely spiced. The bread was fabulous. I'll come back just for that. The baklava was really good. I'm used to baklava from the Toronto Greektown and find it usually a little too sweet and tough to cut through. The baklava from AnTalia was much more tender and cuttable using a fork. Maybe it's the Turkish style. Regardless, it was very good. We'll go back.

Avoid at all costs

By ajmera_008 |

Alright we went to this restaurant today. The service was pretty poor. We asked the server what all vegetables Mixed picks included and the answer was many different vegetables… 3 times… he had no idea what Mixed pickle is and no courtesy to accept it and go confirm come back. Food is mediocre. Ambience - toooo much light. The restaurant is very expensive for the price. There are tons of nicer options available if you walk a little bit from this place...

A memorable disppointment

By Columbia12564 |

A $10 falafel sandwich was on the menu in the window so I went in for lunch. (The menu proved to be outdated.) The restaurant is clean and attractive. I was the only customer on a Saturday at lunchtime. I was given the big dinner menu and the drinks menu by the waitress. I asked for the sandwiches menu; the sandwiches were $15, not $10, but fine. On a hot day the water was warm but perhaps that is a tradition. I have eaten many delicious traditional fresh falafel sandwiches with one or another dressing, and I was very surprised to receive a foil-clad submarine sandwich, slightly warm. It looked like what comes out of a vending machine, machine-wrapped, and I asked the waitress if it were made in the house or not and she told me, yes it was just made and she graciously offered to bring something else if I were unhappy. I was happy it was original but... it turned out to be tasteless, there was nothing to the flavorless falafel; the dressing was, as well, tasteless as cheap bottled dressing; the cabbage slaw was sharply vinegary. The food was fresh, clean, and prepared well enough. It was like a diner meal, if that. Music and the sound of sports on a large TV played at the same time. Two other parties arrived. I left a 15% tip.. The waitress mumbled directions to the ladies' room (it was nice and clean), and neither she nor the young man who was in the front when I arrived looked up to say thank you or goodbye when I left.

Not Impressed

By Scott B |

My wife heard great things about the fried calf liver at Antalia so we figured we would give this place a try with my son who was also visiting. We ended up ordering the Mezze platter, Iskandar Kabob, Beef and Lamb Adana, and Doner Kabob. We were fairly satisfied with the Doner Kabob and Adana, however we felt the Mezze platter was on the bland side. We were really disappointed with the Iskandar Kabob. Something was seriously wrong with the sauce, which is a critical part of this dish. We felt that it did not complement the Kabob at all. This certainly was not even remotely close to what one could get in Turkey. The waiter was attentive but behaving a bit strangely. We were not sure if he was having an off night or being sarcastic. My wife speaks fluent Turkish so it was not a language problem. Lastly, I did not appreciate that an additional amount was added to my tip via credit card. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this may have merely been an error, but it is suspicious nonetheless. If this establishment were in a small city I would not be this particular, but in New York City I expect much more. There are 25 Turkish restaurants in this city, so I would not waste money here.

Table price and receipt didn't match

By Derya M |

Before i go into restaurant,i always check the prices on the table.I saw the price of chicken sandwich's 8 dollars but when it came to pay,it was 13 dollars.I asked them why it wasn't match with the menu, they told me because it was a price for takeaway and they were too rude to me. It was a huge dissapiontment. Second thing i want to pay by credit card and they want to take it and bring back i said i dont want to give my card anyone. But they insist on this eventually but i won't remember them with good memories.

Excellent food at reasonable prices

By DTrad |

The food here was fantastic - the food was all very tasty and fresh. The service was very friendly. The atmosphere was that of a large restaurant. However, the tables weren't too close to each other so you could have a conversation without shouting. The food isn't over-priced like a lot of restaurants in the area, and the portions are generous. It's too bad they aren't open Sundays - we would have eaten there twice, otherwise.

Birthday Dinner

By zeezel |

Being Turkish myself I'm a little bias while writing this review. Just perfect. Traditional Turkish cuisine has been found in the middle of New York. I couldn't have asked for better food or service. Onun doğum günü kızım mutlu yapmak için teşekkür ederiz

Great Turkish meal in the cosy space with friendly people

By Lena W |

Located in the heart of Manhattan (on W 45 St between 5 AV and 6 AV) little cost Turkish restaurant offered a very good food - stuffed leaves, meatballs, eggplant mouse and fried cheese served with cold Turkish beer. Delicious! The people working there were very nice, friendly and helpful (even when we spilled the water). Highly recommended.

Lunch

By Alison M |

We have eaten turkish food for many years as my husband is half Turkish. I have to say the quality and portions of food were very poor. I would not recommend this restaurant very expensive for very small portion and lacked taste

Tasty!

By Jan P |

One of the great pleasures of traveling in Turkey is the wonderful food. AnTalia serves some of the best Turkish dishes I've had in the US and the service was very good. Pleasant atmosphere and reasonable prices for Manhattan

Loved it

By paulhollinger |

We were looking for a place to eat lunch in the Times Square area and found Antalia. We visited Turkey twice and like the cuisine. The ambiance is nice as is the wait staff. There are many good menu selections including entrees and appetizers. We decided to order 2 appetizers, falafel and phyllo stuffed with feta. We ordered a custard for dessert. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced.

Flavorful treat

By DrKat S |

Great service and great food. We enjoyed the flavor and presentation of our meal. This is a good choice for healthy eaters and for a substantial mid day meal so that you can eat lighter later in the day.

Turkish cuisine

By Denise F |

Not the best Turkish food I've had, but it was not bad. We were disappointed that they'd run out of Döner to make the Iskander. They usually run out by 8pm. They made me one with grilled lamb. It was good. The baklava was excellent.

Turkey on the Hudson

By MojaveMax |

I was staying at the hotel right next door to this restaurant (on a business trip of a few days duration in New York) and I had a chance to eat here twice. Being big lovers of Turkish food and everything Turkish, it was essential to visit this establishment. So, I had dinner there, by myself, twice. The food is very good, and quite authentic. I tired three of their hot appetizers and one cold appetizer and I can tell you directly it is as if you are in Turkey... the way the food is prepared and presented, it is totally Turkish. The place is run by Turks, who are very friendly and accommodating. They did the usual Turkish hospitality thing by giving a complimentary desert, of two small pieces of Bakalwa. The menu variety was good but not extensive. The atmosphere is very modest. Prices are good. Service is timely and friendly. All in all it is a genuine Turkish food experience in the center of Manhattan and it is delightful. I would not hesitate to return. Definitely worth a visit.

Impressive Turkish

By michael w |

The place doesn't look like much from the outside. Once inside, it is not much more impressive. However, the food and service are superb! The waiters all seemed very professional. We were given water and tasty bread right away, and our bottle of wine (we were on a Groupon.) The merlot was not bottom of the line-it was a nice smooth merlot from Spain. I munched on calamari for my appetizer, and my wife had falafel. Both excellent. We asked for a bit of time between courses, and we were not rushed. For the entree, I enjoyed my Turkish meatballs, and my other half was quite happy with the standard kebab-a mix of sliced lamb and beef, with yogurt. Dessert was okay- a flat (and small) piece of custard. However, there was a negative, otherwise this would be a 5 star review, The restaurant was very warm on an average July day. The A/C is inefficient. Fortunately for us there were very few diners, but I imagine with more people it would have been very uncomfortable in there. Try this restaurant on a cooler day. We really enjoyed this meal.

I've had a lot better Turkish food

By dizzylynn |

A lovely member of staff served us, however this was overshadowed by the dreadful over priced food, in the UK this restaurant wouldn't last 2 minutes! Ordered chicken kebab which was dry, overcooked and well and truly dead! When we complained about the quality of the chicken we were offered a replacement meal?...certainly didn't want more, one was enough! Not to be charged for this rubbish would of been a lot better, or even offered a reduction in the bill!

Quite good, very quick dinner

By Gianluca Marcellino |

Got in quite late, around 8:30 PM. Few other patrons, finishing their dinner. I had two light starters rather than a set menu or a main course, falafel and a lentil soup. Both were good, served almost instantly and nicely, if in smallish servings. Very reasonable price, considering you are half a block away from 5th Avenue.

Great

By KLM |

Food is great with many options no matter what your preference ie; meat/no meat/halal. Service is outstanding. Atmosphere is nice. It's always busy with customers which is a good sign of a great place!

Mainstream Turkish in midtown

By rnarisetti |

For a relatively quick, moderately priced, clean, comfortable and friendly ambience, it is not a bad place to go, just off 5th Avenue. Stick with all the usual suspects--cold appetizer platter is a good bet for a couple of people if you are not overtly hungry and want to share usual non-meat Turkish appetizers. Otherwise all the usual Turkish chicken and lamb dishes on tap.

Great food

By Lillyrose16 |

We tried almost half of the menu. Aaaaamazing food , very friendly stuff ! Nice ambience. Prices are great also. My friend was second time and it was impressive for her to be greeted by stuff with” welcome back”

Good lunch

By Anon8815 |

Good, quick service. Sangria was a bit on the high end price wise but matches other new york prices. My mother and I split the sampler platter for lunch and it was the perfect amount. I would return. But keep in mind that prices do fit traditional higher NYC prices.

Good food, friendly atmosphere

By winnie m |

We were staying just across the street and needed a place where we could grab a quick meal on a Saturday evening. They were nice enough to accommodate us despite not having reserved. Small, friendly, staff are happy to advise on menu. We had the chicken chops and dorado, both tasty. Warm bread and olive spread quite tasty! We are here for a couple of days so we may go back.....

Great Turkish Dinner

By Sharon N |

We came for dinner after going to a show on Broadway, it's only a few blocks away and worth it! We made a reservation and our table for six was waiting for us. There are many choices on the menu. We ordered some humus and eggplant appetizers to have with delicious bread and tapenade they put on the table. I loved the lamb dish I ordered. Everyone else ordered various lamb or fish dinners which were enjoyed as well. I would certainly recommend this Turkish find!

Friendly service and tasty meals

By Paul G |

We stopped in for a quick dinner without having made a reservation. Despite the restaurant being reasonably busy, we were warmly welcomed and attended to quickly by friendly wait staff. The Turkish bread and olive dip provided immediately hit the spot, as did the main meals (aka entrees). We had a tender Rib Eye Steak and shared a Chicken Adana between two - which was both ample and delicious. Baklava for dessert rounded out an excellent pit stop. If you prefer tasty meals to fancy decor, this is a place to put on your short list.

Our first visit gets four thumbs up!

By Soozi13 |

We were so pleased with our meals! There were so many options for me (since I don't eat meat) that it was almost hard to pick just one entree. I ordered the grilled whole sea bass, which was made to perfection! My husband loved his lamb shish kebab. We split an appetizer of tasty red lentil patties. The turkish bread is delicious and I ate more than I should have! This restaurant is a good choice for vegetarians and those on a gluten-free diet. I can't wait to go back again. The staff is super friendly!

Food is beautiful to look at but mediocre tasting

By bkramer947 |

Our group of five ate here on a Saturday night. Our group tried various items ranging from salads to veggie based appetizers to hot dishes. The salads were great, and the bread brought to the table was delicious, warm and fresh. The hummus, falafel, cold eggplant and spinach dishes were so-so. In general, the dishes here are beautifully presented and extremely appealing visually but much of it lacked in flavor and fell a bit flat. Service was fine. Decor/ambiance - average, nothing memorable. I would not rush back, though it was serviceable. I did appreciate that those of us who don't eat meat had many choices on the menu.

First time eating Turkish food

By Toni |

It was my first time trying Turkish food. I am a very picky eater but I am always willing to trying new foods. My friend and I had a full appetizer spread with bread but the dishes that stood out to me were the Baba Ganoush (made of eggplant) and the pink sultan (a red beets spread). I am not a huge fan of beets but it was prepared different from what I am used to, it was very creamy. The Baba Ganoush had such great flavor and was a great compliment to the bread. The Turkish bread was crunchy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. It was very addicting, I couldn't get enough of it. I've never liked hummus but my friend is a fan and said it was her favorite of the appetizer spread. For drinks we had Red Sangria which was full of different fruits, I enjoyed it. For our entree we opted for the Salmon in Vine Leaves and Chicken Shish Kebab. The salmon and chicken were flavorful and very juicy. It was suggested by Sergio to eat our dessert with tea which isn't something I am used to. We had baklava which tastes as its ingredients which are pistachios and honey. It was good but was a little too textured for my liking. I also don't like pumpkin so I didn't enjoy the pumpkin dessert as a pumpkin lover would. On the other hand, I fell in love with their Turkish tea and its presentation. Overall I had a good experience at this restaurant. The presentation of every dish shows that they pay attention to detail. The staff was attentive and made me feel welcomed. Hopefully next time I can try their Gyros and some rice pudding!

My first Turkish food, but not my last

By Susan H |

I met my sister and nieces here for a late lunch. I had never eaten Turkish food before -- they chose the place. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers and entrees to share, and I enjoyed every one of them! My favorite was the babagonush. Service was friendly and fast.

Can Be Better

By Gokhan |

The food is good, however the staff needs to be more professional. They are socializing too much with customers to the point where the ignore clients waiting to be served. They need to adapt “customer first” mentality and leave their current demeanor back in Turkey.

Excellent & Authentic

By Flipside3420 |

Delicious and very fairly priced. Bread they brought for the table was perfectly warm and fresh from oven. .. and order turkish coffee

Mediocre food

By MorrisCountyGourmand |

The food was mediocre, even the portions were small and very poor value. Waiter gave wrong info on lemonade knowingly (said was freshly made in house. it was canned!!!).

Delicious meal and desserts. Yum!

By ManuelLucero |

A group of seven for late lunch. To keep things simple at check time we went for the fixed price menu. Had appetizer, entree and dessert. I had a delicious and abundant hummus, the chefs' special (lamb) and we ordered a variety of desserts to share and sample. The custard, rice pudding and kadayif were just right. Waitress was efficient and pleasant, even brought extra rice pudding after seeing that we really enjoyed it. A must return place! Downside... only one bathroom, wish they had one more!

What a find in midtown!

By HudsonDV |

We were going to see "Beautiful" at the Sondheim Theatre and were looking for a non-touristy restaurant. We were very pleased with the food, value and service. We had the prix fixe dinner (appetizer, entre and dessert/coffee/tea) for $25. We all shared the appetizers. Fantastic! Our waiter, Erskine was ever attendant to us. We had the Turkish wine (Angora) and beer. The bread was so fresh and warm. The staff calls the bread pita but it does not look like pita as we know it. It was great with hummus and appetizers. Try the salmon in grape leaves. Amazing! The Turkish meatballs (looked like potato pancakes) and tasted great. The ambiance was ok. It did not have anything that looked Turkish in terms of art on the walls. Frankly, the place does not look like much from the outside. It looks like a typical nondescript midtown type restaurant with the but don't let that fool you. And by the way, go see "Beautiful." We will be back!

Fast service great food

By CiaoBella1209 |

I must say this was a little gem. We were a group of 7 with limited time. We were served quick and the food was delicious and fresh. I ordered the hummus and andala chicken. It was delicious and beautiful plate presentation. Also the turkish lemonade was on point.

Great food

By DABMIN |

My family had Chicken Adana, Beef/lamb Adana, and Chicken Shish Kebob and everyone LOVED their dinner. Service was great. Atmosphere was very nice. We were so stuffed we skipped dessert, but the server brought out a Turkish Custard for the table with the check. Would definitely return again.

Not a perfect example

By aslihalic |

Some tastes are hard to match the exact local ones, we had some big expectations I suppose, so even the food was good at all, we were not totally content with it, maybe it didn't match our standards of Turkish food. And the prices were also a little bit higher than expected.

PERFECT. MUST GO!!!

By Nick Z |

On our visit to new york, we wanted a inexpensive yet authentic Turkish dinner. The service was very personal and food, even better! In all the experience was absolutely amazing! I recommend this to anyone interested in a good Turkish meal.

Turkey is just around the Corner!

By MJP16 |

I have been a fan of AnTalia for many years and have gone back for many social and business occasions. Under the watchful eye of the Manager, Sergio AnTalia has never disappointed. The food is authentic, served by a most attentive staff and the ambiance is friendly and very welcoming. I just recently hosted a party for my husband in their loft space and it was a memorable event for all our guests. Seamlessly executed from a welcoming glass of Prosecco to an assortment of spreads and warm pita bread, to wonderful assorted appetizers to include the red lentil patties, our guests were on high alert as their taste buds awakened for what for some was new while others remembered trips to Instanbul! The entrees were equally delicious and the Turkish red wine held its own proudly especially among Italian wine snobs like me!! Sergio secured us a belly dancer who undulated and balanced lit candles atop a tray on her head--people captured every moment in their cell phones and were mesmerized. As a surprise a Turkish drummer came out with a second musician and everyone was up and the night exploded to the amazing percussive beat. The evening was unique resulting in a shared experience for us all which will not be forgotten. The prices are well within reach and Sergio is always eager to offer flexibility when possible. So if you are looking for something different for two people or a festive life event, I highly recommend AnTalia!! You won't want to leave!!!

Rip off service charge for very average food & poor service

By KASHMAC |

We ate here because we fancied a change. bland interior. With only 2 other tables occupied that evening there wasn't any atmosphere either. There was a man & woman waiting on, we ordered chicken kebabs. Very average. The waiter couldn't be bothered to ask if the food was ok. Didn't ask if we wanted anymore drinks. We couldn't understand it as they clearly weren't busy. Anyway when the bill came there was a 20% service charge on top of the vat. We paid 10% because the whole experience was very average. The waiter came back to our table and demanded that we paid the full amount. We explained that we didn't think it warranted that amount of tip. He argued with my husband saying it wasn't an option it was an obligation. We said we weren't going to pay all that. He then went on about the fact that waiting staff don't get paid wages in that restaurant and rely on the tip. He made us feel very uncomfortable. We paid 15% no more and left.

Theater district find

By Karenn43323 |

Arriving in NYC, needing lunch, we stumbled on this Turkish restaurant near our hotel. Had our last lunch here as well and it wasn't just the proximity to our hotel that brought us back. The delicious eggplant dishes and prompt service were the draw. Don't let the signage and dowdy front room deter you, the back dining room is cozy and filled with locals.

Appetizing presentation

By Elsa C. L. |

Delicious food and complimentary warm bread. Appetizing presentation and filling portions. Good service and atmosphere in midtown.

Terrific Turkish

By 123RIch_S123 |

We came in from the pouring rain and the hostess already had a plastic bag available for our umbrellas. We were seated immediately. Our food was delicious; lamb kebabs for my wife, beautifully grilled and perfectly medium rare. I had Bamya, a okra, carrot, and tomato stew with lamb for $4.50 extra which as terrific. We shared baklava and Turkish coffee that were both very good. The service was very friendly, especially for NYC. Our waiter wanted to know if we had Turkish food in CT (we do, see review on Sultan's Turkish Restaurant) and he and the rest of the staff were very attentive throughout the meal. Unlike other reviews, there wasn't a 20% service fee on our bill but the prices were higher than the website. I find that irritating but it wouldn't have changed our decision to come here if we had known the correct prices. The prices aren't bad by Manhattan standards which means overpriced but not horrible. It took a while to get the bill but we had time, so we weren't concerned. The other downsides were that my meal came out of the kitchen with chicken instead of lamb but they corrected that quickly without any issue. Skip the Turkish lemonade, it is not very flavorful and might have been out of a can.

Order Carefully

By Beth S |

You'll do fine with the appetizers. Delicious hummus and babaganoush and lentil soup. Mixed grill was badly overcooked and very dry. Same for the Turkish meatballs. Sorry we didn't skip the entrees and order more appetizers instead. Staff is extremely pleasant and accommodating. I will try it again but order differently.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Price

By David S |

We were visiting NY from Australia and found this restaurant through Living Social. The setting is more casual than formal, which is nice when you are with family or friends. The food was fresh, tasty and authentic, even within a voucher, the prices were quite reasonable, ie $15-$20 for mains. If I lived locally, this place would be on my monthly visit list Do yourself a favor and check it out, you wont be disappointed.

Middle of the road Turkish restaurant

By SaW43 |

The food was delivered quickly and satisfied a need. We had a meat with a salad but it is just average.

Nice cozy place

By rjfaille |

Small and friendly. The service was excellent and staff very pleasant. Bread was right out of the oven and came with a tasty tapenade. The baba ganoush was done very nicely and even went well with the warm bread. I truly enjoyed the Sultan's delight. Small bites of tender, seasoned lamb over eggplant. The beer and wine list is limited but adequate for everyday dining.

Authentic with great service

By No0osho |

Very good authentic Turkish place. Had the chicken chops. Great charcoal flavor. Have the Turkish hot tea with the milk pudding dessert at the end. Delicious

Warm and friendly atmosphere

By Robert B |

The food was very good. My friend recommended that we try it as she has been to Turkey. I have never had Turkish food but gave it a try....no disappointment for either of us. She found the food to be very authentic and delicious and I really enjoyed all of it. We ordered 5 or 6 hot appetizers and split them...plenty of food...and very fresh and well prepared and presented. We will definitely go back. Everyone in the restaurant was friendly and service was great. We loved our Waiter! You should give it a try even if you have never had Turkish food...you won't be sorry!

AUTHENTIC TURKISH FOOD

By Chalfont123 |

This restaurant is deceptively large inside. There are a few tables at the entrance but the main restaurant is at the back where there are no windows. The waiters were very attentive and the portions were generous. They had Turkish drinks like Ayran and the food was as we have had in Turkey. We were not rushed and the place was pretty busy for a Monday evening. It is conveniently situated for theatre land as 42nd street is round the corner. They do a roaring trade in take away's as we witnessed when leaving the restaurant.

Birthday Dinner... Strongly NOT RECOMMEND.

By olishna |

We had a Birthday party for 13 people. The food was good, but not great. On the final check we was surprised with the charge for appetizer for $230... nobody see it and eat... Spoke with a manager Sergio and he subtract just $150 from check...ha...but he didn't do the same from tax and tips... 20% tips charge was also on the check, even though we did not receive apropriate service. Why i couldn't have an option to decide myself how much to give to thank server.... Strongly NOT RECOMMEND. Run away from this place!!!!

This is arguably the worst Turkish food, ever!

By Rafet G |

This is one of the worst Turkish food I have ever had. So hated that I had to write the review straight away which is rare for me. I am bemused that this place is getting any positive reviews. I had lentil soup to start which was the best part of the whole meal....well, it was the only good part. Then tried the borek which was over fried but I was hungry and enthusiastic. So, did not say anything and waited for the main course in anticipation. The main course which was doner could not have been worse. It is arguably the worst I have ever had in my life and I had it everywhere! I am from Turkey and I know what I am talking about. The restaurant and its chef should be ashamed of serving this. I left all of it in the plate and gently told the nice waiter that the doner let them down big time. He looked emberassed but seemed like he was used to that comment. He did not suggest to take it back or take it off the bill as it was hardly touched. In short, I would strongly recommend everyone to walk in n the other side of the side walk when they come across this restaurant. It is a shame!

Great meal & great service

By h4rl3yqw33n |

Purchased a living social deal for this restaurant for dinner before a Broadway show. The deal was for a pri fix meal, 2 apps, 2 entrees, dessert & a bottle of wine for $49. Great deal! The meal was delicious and so was the service. We arrived later than our reservation but they made our dinner service speedy so that we would make it to the theater before the curtain time. The restaurant has great embiance, soft music playing in the background doesnt drown out your conversation. The seating is intimate but not crowded, They don't charge to credit card for purchases less than $20, so if you use a deal, as I did, have cash for tax and tip. Overall a great dining experience.

Gratiuty scam - beware!

By Arman A |

Rude personal. Enforced 20% "Service charge" without any prior notice. We found this only after given receipt. When asked for manager I got very rude reply "Manager is not here". It took me a lot of arguing and complaints, however the guy didn't drop it below 15%. It's not about penny-counting, but more about customer service and money fraud. I always thought the tip is paid as a customer gesture. However this is a pure scam. This place has to be reported to the relevant authority. They use this trick as I saw many people double-tipping at this place because it's not clear that the "Service charge" is a tip. I won't even talk about food quality (microwaved rice and not fresh kebab). Save yourself good mood and avoid the place.

Good Food

By ML W |

Business dinner here was good. Low key vibe, atmosphere and service, this is the place to go for authentic Turkish food. I had the mixed grill and it was awesome. This is the place for those who want good food at reasonable prices in a casual environment.

Destress trip

By Belinda Aderholt |

We had never eaten Turkish but had made an acquaintance with a young man from Turkey. He took us here for dinner and we really loved it. I do not know the formal name of the spiced minced lamb kabob, but it was our favorite. The bread and hummus was good.! We also had lamb and chicken kabobs. The lamb chop was our least favorite. The salad was perfect to go with the heavier meat dishes. We finished with strong Turkish coffee in the cutest cups ever. The baklava was ok. I have relatives from another European country, so I have had homemade baklava for years for comparison. Wait staff was competent, drinks quick and prices were fair. Would go again anytime

Average and overpriced Turkish food

By Nizar |

The food is good but it could be better. The quantity is very little compared to other Turkish and Persian restaurants in NYC. Generally speaking Turkish food is always over-priced in NYC, but this one just went overboard. In addition I am not sure why this place and other Turkish places add gratuity to the bill without consulting with the customer or leaving it up to the customer to tip appropriately like other restaurants, even with small families and groups.

Reasonably Priced Good Food.

By HS300 |

Staying in New York for five days is a big hit on the pocket if you have to eat out every night. Even there was only two of us, the usual bill for dinner was around the $US200 a night ! We were walking around near our hotel, when we saw this place and saw that it was quite popular at lunch time. I booked a table for dinner and when we got there at about 7pm, there weren't many people there. We were seated at the back of the restaurant and given water and menus. In a space of about 10 minutes the place began to fill and within about 20 minutes, it was full ! Ordering a shared appertiser (Humus), followed by an Iskender Kebab and a Sultan's Delight, it was a great dinner. Lots of food and friendly service. We got a bottle of red wine and coffee. The total cost was $US126, far better valuie than a lot of the other places around.

Turkish Lunch

By Fernando R |

I was in NY for a breakfast meeting and decided to stay for lunch with my son Marc. His partner suggested that we try this Turkish restaurant and he decided to join us. The service was quick, excellent and efficient. Lunch crowd was growing. I tried the Gyro, soup and the Turkish beer and it was an enjoyable Turkish experience. The Gyro lamb meat was moist and tasty. The beer was served cold and went down smooth. I was pleased with the choice

Totally authentic

By RockyLass |

We have been holidaying in New York from Australia for the last week and decided that on our last night we would look for a good Italian restaurant. We stumbled across this place and as we have been to Turkey a couple of times decided to give it a try. Definitely well worth it. The food was authentic and the staff were very friendly. Did so much enjoy the lamb kofte, Iskender Kebab for mains with Baba Gonush for entree and of course the traditional rice pudding for dessert. Would definitely recommenced this restaurant if you love turkish food.

Need Your Table

By Leonard K |

Ever feel like the restaurant wants your table before you order ? Served our appetizers but before we finished, they were serving our entrees. This was at 5:45 on a Tuesday night. Also, before the 4 of us finished our appetizers, they were clearing dishes from those who looked finished. Did the same with the entrees. We were using a Living Social coupon and ordered extras but seemed to be treated like second class citizens. Note that the choices for Living Social people is very limited. They do offer a wide range of other entrees for a $ 5.00 premium. They lost the 4 of us as future customers. There are a few very good Turkish restaurants on the West Side like the TURKISH CUISINE.

good food, good location, good price

By GilBagnell |

Close to Times Square it is hard to find a restaurant that is both good and also reasonably priced. Before a show we popped into AnTalia just because it was there. Turns out the food is more than good, the service and ambiance is perfect, and the prices are pretty reasonable. We opted for the prix fixe, which was $26 or $29 - I forget which. The appetizers included things like hummus, babaganoush, ad similar fare. We had the eggplant, which was sweet (not bitter) and flavorful, and the esme, which had a nice bite to it. The portions were substantial, and these could have nearly done as dinner, along with the house-baked pie bread - which was nice and fresh but nothing out of this world. A number of the main course options looked good, but we opted for the daily special, which was lamb gyro, done on a spit in the open kitchen, very lightly dressed with a tomato sauce, and served with luscious Turkish yogurt. Dessert was a tasty custard, and coffee was included. Turkish beer was good, but served in a small glass considering the price. Service was warm and efficient, and the overall feel of the place was comfortable.

Wow

By Dorin Z |

Baklava and kebab are my favorite dishes and this place deserve 5 star for the hospitality and quality!

Not Really Air Conitioned !

By ritarosenthal |

On a very hot day,(July 5th...with hot weather alerts) the air conditioning was so minimal it felt like none at all, despite being told that it was cool ! Disappointing and sorry we ate there.

Good reasonably priced Mediterranean and Turkish food

By zalishariff |

Centrally located on W45th street off 5th Avenue in New York, a short walk away from Times Square. Good food quality and friendly staff. Functional furniture and can't say much for the ambiance, but if you like Mediterranean food with a Turkish flavour, you will enjoy the cuisine here

Off Broadway

By Aunt_A |

AnTalia is a Turkish restaurant located on W. 45 St between 5th & 6th Aves. Good food, decent prices, pleasant decor and amiable service. Ate here recently with 4 family members from out-of-state. Between us we had a variety of foods, from a prix-fixte dinner to just mezze. Everyone thought the food was very good. The servings ranged from ample to huge, depending on what it was. Menu has the typical selection of dishes found in NYC Turkish restaurants; nothing unique. But with a large selection of hot & cold appetizers as well as entrees, there's something for everyone.

Average if you know turkish food; good if you dont

By DrRoy52 |

we went to An Talia on a social living coupon. It offered two apps, two entrees, bottle of wine and desert for $49 or, as they claim, a value well over 100 dollars. The place is dimly lit but pleasant and we were warmly greeted. The server was gracious (my partner said bordering on obsequious). Warm bread appeared (which was a highlight of the meal) and once we announced the living social coupon a new menu appeared. The apps were good (calamari and borek we chose) but were miniscule. The mains were limited (there were choices but we were directed to to gyro platter and lamb/beef kebabs. The gyro was swimming in sauce, tasty and very large quantity. The lamb/beef kebab seemed heavy on beef, overcooked, and non distinctive) Desert were two very small portions on an adequate backlava; no choices and the wine drinkable with limited options. With tip (on what be full bill which we tip on) of $20 plus the total cost was 70 dollars so not the greatest value. They also have the same dinner "special" for two 50 dollars absent wine and other discounts. While the waiter was pleasant and engaging the server took our plates while we were still eating (or tried) to for each order yet the restaurant was half empty. All in all it is an ok spot but we wont return.

Great food and service

By Beverley_11 |

This was next to our hotel and it was the first of this type of restaurant we had eaten in during our trip. We went for the set menu which was quite filling, but everything was very tasty. We were given delicious bread to start with and although there was only one dessert of the day the waiter brought us 2 different dishes.

Great food, great service

By Maria d |

This was a restaurant we came across as we were looking for a meal with falafel. This place did not disappoint! We had the red lent soup which was delicious, as were their falafel and chicken. We also ordered a shredded wheat and honey dessert that was fantastic. Service was quick and courteous, highly recommend!

Well prepared and good service

By danwatch |

This restaurant looked clean and friendly from the outside, with a good menu. Inside the dining area was away from the street. Service was polite and efficient and the dining area was well kept. There was a good variety of Mediterranean dishes and the waiter made a requested substitution without argument. We were happy with the meal and choices made, but have had better elsewhere. Service and price bring this restaurant up to 4 star level.

easy to see why it has won awards

By Jav66 |

I was a bit dubious at first about having a Turkish meal whilst in new York with endless burger, steak houses to choose from, but when passing they had won awards 2013, 2014 and a great hygiene standard that I decided to give it a try. My partner and I decided to share a couple of starters. The calamari is probably one of the best I have tried and the portions sizes were certainly not skimped on. My only criticism was that as soon as we had finished our starters feeling already full, the empty plates were taken away straight away but our main course was then given to us with only about a minute to rest which is too quick. We did give ourselves plenty of time to rest after the main course to try a pudding. we tried the almond desert which was a type of blancmange texture and was really tasty. The décor inside is nice but nothing grand but had a nice feeling about it with attentive waiters. Definitely worth a try.

Excellent turkish food

By Sergey L |

The food may be not the most authentic, but was prepared with care and from fine produce. It was delicious, and the service was very attentive, fast and friendly. We liked it a lot.

Some good, some bad & watch out for service charge

By gsdmike |

The sampler appetizer and the felafel were wonderful otherwise the food was so-so - the tomato soup was downright bland. The service charge really irks me - I am a generous tipper so I have no problem with give 20% or more for good service - just don't force it on me.....

Fabulous "Turkish/Mediterranean" Cuisine at Reasonable Prices

By Joseph O |

This is the second Turkish restaurant that I've visited in Mid-Town and I'm SO enjoying this cuisine. Fresh, flavorful and simply delicious. What's there not to like?? Comfortable dining room (in the back) with a delightful staff. I had a salad and the liver. Heavenly, and just what I wanted!! Good portions (large for European, modest for American, but for a guy doing KETO, just right!!!). My friends had a Turkish red wine that was reasonably priced and which they said was delicious. If your tired of whatever you've been doing in NYC, come home to dine here!

Great Turkish restaurant

By Oncofighter |

I had an early dinner at this restaurant and was impressed. I recommend it. What I liked was the genuine service, impressive and impressive selection of authentic Turkish food.

not a good choice

By GoIndians |

Traveling with my vegetarian daughter can be trying. Restaurants often seem like a good match but end up being forgettable. It was expensive even for Manhattan prices. The food was bland, unappetizing and just not at all inviting. With so many choices I would suggest you take a pass on AnTalia

Excellent food & service!

By Paula L |

This was a great opportunity to expose the teens in our group to some ethnic food. We had tasty chicken and salmon dishes and Baba Ganoush as an appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised that eggplant could taste so good. And the baklava for dessert was delicious.

Delicious food and excellent service in a lovely dining area.

By SweetFreesia |

Two couples came for dinner and we had a great meal. We tried the appetizer sampler (3 items of our choice for one price) and especially loved the hummus, which was a little different than the norm. Our server was very kind and attentive to our questions and the dietary restrictions of one person in our group and gave very helpful advice. He knew the menu well. In our group we had the falafel platter, a mild chicken shish kebab, and lamb meat skewers (mixed with another meat that I can't remember) and a pasta dish. We are really enjoyed our meals. All meat/falafel meals came with a lovely red cabbage vinegary slaw and lovely nutty rice. From the photos I was a little concerned about the coziness of the dining room, but it turned out to be a lovely, quiet, two-tiered space.

Quality Turkish food at reasonable prices

By rh24 |

Enjoyed a quick lunch here while in the midtown area -- lentil soup, ayran and a falafel platter -- well made and satisfying at a very reasonable sticker price. Would stop in again.

Different kind of menu

By Frank K |

We ran today into a Turkish restaurant. To me the menu looks more Lebanese than Turkish, but those countries are almost neighbors. We eat several appetizers as the main meal. The taste of these appetizers were (compared with the food that I had in Lebanon or Turkey) average to good. Some dishes were too salty and some had too much vinegar. The dishes are decorated nicely and the bread that we got with the food was nicely warm. The staff was friendly but the tables and chairs need some maintenance.

Fantastic Turkish Restaurant

By Joseph K |

I've been to Turkey and the Middle East. The food at AnTalia Restaurant in Manhattan is as good as any in Turkey or any other Turkish restaurant I have visited. We had a few appetizers as well as a couple of entries. The food is delicious, well prepared, and nutritious. We couldn't stop eating! If you enjoy Turkish style cuisine, AnTalia Restaurant is the best!

Great Food

By eric r |

I wasn't disappointed by the experience at this restaurant. Even if the food leans toward a higher price range, it's very good. Presentation of the Turkish coffee is superb, and the custard which we were given for free was a nice treat. 9/10 overall

Casual, tasty Mediterranean

By Spiral0112358 |

We found this friendly restaurant near our hotel. Extensive menu of fresh plant based, sea food and meat dishes. Friendly and efficient service. Good beverage options. Could not have asked for more.

Good Turkish Food

By AKK2050 |

It’s a nice place at 17W 45th Street serving authentic Turkish food. We had red lentil soup which was really nice. Humus, Iskenderun kebab, Chicken Adana, and lamb shish kebab were just great. It was a great dining experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Strongly recommend this place.

Wonderful!

By David B |

My wife and I had a wonderful experience. The food was flavorful and healthy, the service was excellent, and we loved the atmosphere.

Authentic Turkish Food

By Ibrahim K |

The restaurant is very conveniently located between Grand central & times square. We went there for dinner on Valentine's Day and they had added a few decorative elements which was nice. Ambiance is OK, seating was comfortable. Service was fast and attentive. The only thing that did not make sense to us was that they gave us the regular menu and the special Prix fixe menu of the day (3 courses). But When we started to order from the regular menu they told us that only the special menu was available. Weird. And the 3 course special actually ended up being more expensive than ordering the three items separately, which I attribute to Valentine's Day. Most importantly, the food was tasty and came really close to how my relatives in Turkey cook (they own two restaurants) and what I know from many visits. We had şiş kebap (chicken on skewer, served with bread, salad and rice), sultan's delight (lamb cubes on puree of roasted eggplant) and Manti (Turkish style mini ravioli). All really good, portions were just right, although the average American would probably find them to be small-ish. A general comment: meat tends to get cooked all the way through in Turkish cuisine, our chicken was a bit dry which I know is a not a fault but in case you like your meat juicy you have to tell the server. Recommend giving this place a try...

Pleasant food

By BostonNix |

I have had better Turkish food elsewhere, but this place has pleasant enough food. Their chicken shish kabob is especially good, but I was disappointed that it was served with Near East brand rice pilaf - lazy! Order tadziki with the kebab - excellent combo.

Best food and service in New York!

By Tania J |

My husband and I had our last dinner on our vacation at AnTalia, and wow it was worth it! The service from our server was exceptional. For starters we enjoyed the Ispanak Tarator (spinach with garlic and yogurt) as well as vegetable and chicken soup (from the fixed menu). For mains, the Classic Doner Kebab (Lamb Gyro) was out of this world! Their baklava was the best we have had in a long while. When visiting New York, this restaurant is a must!

Fresh Food near Times Square — who knew?

By carolynww |

Super fresh authentic Turkish lunch or dinner spot near Times square. The salmon wrapped in grape leaves and char grilled was fabulous and served with a delightfully different salad… unique yet familiar. This is a great alternative to the fried and pub style food served in the area. Lots of vegetarian options!

Very good Mediterranean food

By Northern_Traveler00 |

Needed a pre theater dinner and saw this as we were walking down the street and the menu looked good so in we went. Pretty space, we shared a very good crab cake appetizer. She had a salad with grilled calamari which was great, I had the Donor Gyro, also very good, but a bit dry. Service was friendly and attentive.

Lamb lover's delight

By Hammbrook |

Wonderful Mediterranean and Turkish dishes. Friendly and attentive staff. Nothing special by way of ambiance. Service was quite prompt, not surprising as they specialize in pre-theater dining. Stuffed grape leaves were a bit sweet for our taste, but the felafel were quite good and the phyllo wrapped feta was super. The gyro platter was well spiced and the beef and lamb adana was outstanding. I just wish some vegetable came with it. Top it off with some strong Turkish coffee and you've had a real taste of Anatolia and a pleasant evening. About $35/person; $25 for the fixed price menu.

Delicious food and great Turkish beer

By silvergypsy45 |

We were intrigued by An Talia, a small ethnic style restaurant, on our walk down 45th Street last week in New York City. Neither my husband nor I were familiar with Turkish food so we walked in and were warmly greeted by staff who led is to the cozy dining room in back. An Talia is both Turkish and Mediterranean in general so we might have made a more generic choice for our first time there than something specifically Turkish. I ordered a lamb dish which seemed like a typical shaved gyro serving and tasted familiar but good. My husband, however, ordered something with the phrase "spicy chicken" in it, and it had a really interesting flavor than we were not used to as far as the spiceswere concerned and really delicious. I wished I had ordered his. I loved the Turkish beer, however, so I felt very satisfied with my meal. It is a full-bodied lager type of beer and comes icy cold in a nice goblet. I believe the beer is called "Eres". An Talia appears to be a modest family type establishment, catering to couples or friends with Turkish decorative touches providing a slightly exotic atmosphere. The service was prompt, courteous, and very warm and personal. We really enjoyed our experience there and would love to go back again the next time we are in New York. My tip is to ask the waiter for his recommendations as to what is typically Turkish if that is what you are after. Otherwise you might get something you could find at your local kebab place.

Amazing food

By _traveroo_ |

I have been to the many Mediterranean restaurants and this one will be in top 10%. Tasty food, excellent service, and neat restaurant. I recommend this place if you are looking for a good Mediterranean restaurant.

Misrepresents Groupon

By Carole J |

Beware of misrepresented Groupon! "Upscale Mediterranean Dinner..." with photo of Salmon. When you arrive you are given a special "Groupon" menu (no Salmon included for the price you paid) which limits your choices to very inexpensive options (certainly not "Upscale".) Any dish that would be considered "upscale" has an up-charge of at least $5. The food is very mediocre. Baba ghanoush had very little eggplant but lots of yogurt; bread arrived burned on one side - obviously warmed-up day old; the chicken skewers, probably best option, on regular menu for $17.50, was over cooked and dry. And finally the special dessert (no choice)explained as a flan - was really panna cotta with lots of gelatin added. Best news: Service was good, glass of Turkish wine was good as was the olive tapenade served with bread.

Turkish Food at reasonable prices

By Arthur225NYC |

We had the sigara borek, chicken adana, babagonush and turkish meatballs. As we normally do not eat Turkish food, we asked the waiter for his suggestions. Everything he recommended was very good.

GRATUITY RESTAURANT

This the first time I heard about obligatory gratuity in this restaurant. ..High price..With usual food..I hope no one visit it...The bell come with 12 $ add as gratuity. ..troubles

A nice place for lunch

By Stefano_di_Perugia |

Having eaten Turkish food in Turkey, Europe and the US, it is one of my favorite cuisines. Looking for a place to have lunch recently in New York City, I came upon AnTalia. My wife and I chose from their luncheon special menu. We shared a very nice Shepard's salad ( like a Greek salad but without the feta) and sigara boreki. For our main courses we both had their Turkish Gyro (Doner). The portions were generous and the lamb was quite tasty. Despite our being there at noon and with a full restaurant, the service was quite good. While this was not the best Turkish food I have ever eaten, it was quite acceptable.

Turkish fare for Manhattan price

By Przeglad |

Do not take me wrong. We have enjoyed our pre-theatre dinner going to see "1984" show at the Hudson theatre. The dinner was much better than the show with its cascade of special effects creating instant headaches. Yes the place is pricy but they do know how to cook and serve eggplants in variety of forms. Delicious Borek was worth trying. We enjoyed also "Vishnia" ( sour cherry) juice and Angora wine. Total with wine and very friendly and engaging service about $150 for two. Not bad these days though in most of the Turkish restaurants in the city would be considered high.

This restaurant will definately turn you onto Turkish cuisine

By Stephanie K |

We stumbled upon this little gem on our way to 5th Ave to shop. The food is just fabulous. Prepared fresh on site. The staff were more than happy to familiarize us with Turkish food. One member of our party is vegetarian and the selection is one of the best in the city. Last week was our second visit and it did not disappoint. The first was for lunch and this time for dinner as we enjoyed it so much.

Excellent food and service

By Yady B |

It was our first time eating in a Turkish food but we enjoyed it. Additionally, the service we received was excellent. The prices are fine, the quantity and quality of the food worth it .

Nicely Prepared & Presented Turkish Cuisine

By DAL0714 |

Whether you go for lunch or dinner the food and service are both really good. The dining room is comfortable and the servers are courteous and really helpful. We have visited this restaurant twice in one week, one lunch and one dinner. Both were worthwhile experiences. The Donor Kabob and Lamb Kabob at lunch are both really good and nicely presented. Dinner started with the Hummus appetizer which was outstanding. The main course was Lamb Chops which was also good. Be sure to be done with dinner by 10pm as they turn on all of the lights at 10:01 whether there are diners eating or not.

Eastern food

By cornatel |

Tasty eastern food at a convenient price in Midtown Manhattan. The restaurant is standard and close to the 5th Ave so it fits well when walking around the area.

delicious!!

By skisheen |

My husband and I were in New York for a holiday and walking back from Central Park we saw an advertisement for the restaurant. We were given a take out menu and decided to give it a try. The hot crunchy bread we were given with olive tapenade was declious. Best bread we have had out in a restaurant for a while. We had three small plates as it was lunch time and each was excellent. The calamari was melt in your mouth, the zucchini pancakes were soft and the other dish was also very good. All the food was hot and there was no pressure to have a drink or vacate our seat. I wish we could have gone back. A very good experience for both of us.

not worth it

By JoeyNumbers |

good tasting food, hardly any meat on the wrap, waited along time for service , was definitely not worth the price

The better Turkish cuisine

By Nadia007007 |

A very extensive menu full of tasty dishes. The portions are generous. They are very friendly and it is no problem if you ask for some extra bread. Only the Belgian beer on their menu is not Belgian:-D

Great lunch

By Wickedqueen64 |

My husband and I stopped for lunch. Great service, nice ambience. When you sit down, they bring you warm crusty bread with an olive spread. Under entrees we ordered the classic Turkish gyro and chicken shish kebab, both were excellent. One of the best meals we have had in NYC.

Meze in Midtown

By Northern_Ibis |

AnTalia is a place we always like to visit when we are in New York. The Turkish fare offered here is always tasty and interesting, and the prices are reasonable--for midtown Manhattan. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable, and offer good advice on the dishes. We have been here for both lunch and dinner. We will definitely be coming back!

$20 set lunch

By martynsnook |

2 courses for just under $20. Good selection of food. I had the lentil patties which were fresh and tasty. Then I had the vegetable casserole. Could have added meat. Selection of veg in a tomato based sauce. My Turkish friend had told me this is a comfort food dish back home. Quick service.

trying a new cuisine in the big city

By emmaline410 |

thanks to the billboard on 5th Ave, we opted to stay close to our hotel...great choice! amazing service from Ozzie. Enjoyed all aspects of our experience--ambiance, friendliness of staff, food, and reasonably priced. We each had a different dish with NO complaints! Nice portions, flavor, and presentation. Tried three desserts (one on the house!) and enjoyed those as well!

Awesome

By Dena T |

Everytime I am in the city this is my restaurant !!! It is always clean and the staff is very wonderful. The food is incredible and service is fast. I don't eat anywhere different . It doesn't matter where in the city I am I just jump in cab and go.

Watch out for the Service Charge!

By Dewi50 |

We had a couple of really nice meals at this restaurant. After my return home, I realised that the reason the waiters were virtually crawling all over us on our second visit was that I'd double tipped the first time. As a foreign tourist I'd naively fallen for the discreetly displayed service charge, which hiked an additional 20% on the bottom of the bill - easy to miss after a few drinks. My subsequent e-mail to the manager illicited an offer of a complimentary bottle of wine on my next visit (which will be when I win the lottery). So, if you go there, say that you're me and claim it!

I had high hopes!

By Tea4tw0 |

Having spent two years in Turkey, my family often eats Turkish food when in New York. This new (to us) restaurant looked like it might be a good place to try - and thier were exccellent reviews in thier window. We started with the Sigara Borek (which is called Cheese Pastry on the menu) and they were pretty good. We ordered our favorite Turkish dish, iskender Kebab and tried a dish new to us, Beef over Eggplant. The Beef dish was very good; however, the Iskendar Kebab was nothing like the perfect description on the menu. The overcooked tastless pieces of meat were served over hard, almost burned croutons covered in yogust. There was no hint of the typical tomato sauce or the promised pita bread anywhere on the plate, just one half tomato as garnish. What a disappointment! We will eliminate this restaurant from our New York list on future visits!

Beautiful Restaurant Amazing Food

By busra |

I have to say I’ve been to many Turkish restaurants this was probably one of the best ones in the city, The ambiance was beautiful, lights tables chairs really matched each other, food was just like in Turkey, well presented and really affordably priced. I tried the Ancrya red wine my friends tried their sangria. Loved the wine list which was offering a great variety of wines from Span, Italy, Turkey and other mediterranean. You must have their Turkish tea at the end with a baklava.

Mostly Very Good...

By Lynn S |

If I stayed with my first instinct (order several appetizers for dinner) the rating would likely be higher. The three of us had appetizers and they were all delicious. Charred eggplant dish was the best I've tasted at any Mediterranean restaurant. Unfortunately, I ordered the brook trout as my entree and it was tasteless and loaded with bones. My two friends enjoyed their entrees - one was quite different - salmon kabobs wrapped in grape leaves. I will go back and order those appetizers! As for the rest: service was good, decor attractive enough and food reasonably priced.

Excellent Value in Midtown

By Iambic |

The three-star reviews surprise us. We spent nine days in Midtown, eating at all kinds of places from dingy delis to fancy restaurants, and AnTalia was the best combination of food and price we found. It was the only restaurant we considered going back to. The location is excellent--easy walking distance to the Theater District/Times Square, Rockefeller Center. The ambiance is casual, and unlike most restaurants at which we ate, blessedly quiet. The dishes are relatively simple, such as grilled meats, and plentiful. The Pachanga Borek, an appetizer, was fabulous, the Agora wine reasonably priced for the quality. The staff was friendly and attentive. We couldn't have asked for more.

Vegetarians and meat lovers both had a really great meal

By Juker-Brx |

Delicious food - everything we had ordered was excellent: the mezze (eggplant salad, stuffed wine leaves, chickpea salad, falafel) and also the lamb. This is a great place for a party of vegetarians and meat lovers combined. Both will be happy! It was authentic and well presented. Attentive waiter, real plates and glasses.

Ever thought of going to Turkey? AnTalia will give you reasons to go!

By jaseaton |

Right next door to our hotel, this restaurant looks unimpressive at the front, but go right through to the back room: quiet, comfortable; an army of totally responsive, friendly and helpful servers; and the food -- sublime: we loved the Esme (very spicy), spinach/yogurt, and red lentil cake appetizers; the Dorado fish was rich and delicious. One of us had a Turkish beer (great) the other a dry white Turkish wine (REALLY dry). Our meal was totally satisfying. You can't go wrong. A woman sitting at the table next to us, after overhearing our satisfied sighs, told us she's a regular....based on her testimony, you can't go wrong here.

A good experience

By Steve L |

So we were staying at the Holiday Inn. It was cold outside. We were dead tired after a long day. Mediterranean food was not my first choice, but it was COLD outside! So we gave it a try, and I'm glad that we did. First off, it didn't have fancy decor but neither did it have fancy prices. The tree people in my party all loved their food and couldn't finish their servings- the portions were LARGE. The server couldn't do enough for us. He was friendly and attentive. Good food, good service, good prices. What more could you want.

Great Mediterrenean restaurant

By hhyalav |

Good mezes. Sumptuous fish. Great specialties as Sigara borek, Tas kebab. Choban salad, and meat dishes as shish kebab.

Lovely

By Marciahi |

Very pleasant atmosphere and excellent food. We had a number of appetizers and some wine. The presentation of each dish was superb.

Walk on by

By victoria g |

As avid foodies and travellers from the uk, we come across this whilst in new your and thought, yeah, we'll give a go, the menu looked ok and with 3 hungry kids we went in. Hmmm straight away the atmosphere was cold and not very warm. We were put on a little table which is ample for 5 if your an oompa lumpa. As there was no childs menu we ordered the kids an array of starters.. crab cakes and kebab, both of which were left. I tasted the crab cakes to see why there left and yeah.. minging. As an adult i ordered as did my hubby from the recommendation from the waiter the most popular dish, which was an authentic turkisk meat (sheesh kebab) with rice and veg.. We were presented curry house starter with over cooked rice. Not nice and not worth money.

Good lunch to go

By Allan |

We got take-out there when we were leaving town, and it was very good. Gyros, salads with fresh-tasting chicken, all very good. We'll go back for dinner next time we're in town.

Very good food but expensive

By Allan S |

The food. Here is quite good but I find the portions. A bit lacking and it is expensive. Although I liked the food and service found that the price makes them a place. A no go for me. With no problem on price then try it and you will be happy

Great find!

By CJU92 |

We stumbled upon here by chance and very glad we did. The food was delicious and service was great. Portions in relation to the cost were reasonable for the location. Would definitely recommend!

Average food, small portions quite expensive for what you get.

By Pauljg1 |

Quite let down overall, love Turkish food, but this was very very average. They could have served any food here, no real atmosphere. No true Turkish identity.

Wonderful find during busy season

Went to this restaurant during the busy holiday season and were very pleasantly surprised with the food and the service was exceptional. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Turkish food.

Mediocre at best

By Jennifer G |

This restaurant was a disappointment. We ordered a bottle of rose' and received a relabeled bottle that said pinot noir on it. The food was good not great. Baklava was pistachio and again just okay.

Canceled our OpenTable reservation since we had too many kids!

By Sinay |

The called me to confirm our OpenTable reservation for 12 people, about an hour before the reservation time, and asked how many kids in our party and if we need any high chairs, after I told them we have 7 kids and need 1 highchair, they put me on hold and told me they can't honor our reservation during the holiday season and we should come in as a walk-in and wait in line... Needless to say, we end up eating somewhere else

Expensive but good quality

By Gaz HD |

The restaurant is not attractive, flooring is uneven, cheaper quality furnishing etc however the food was excellent. We had shish kebab ($23) and Kofte ($17?) and a mixed starter ($27). I considered these surprisingly high prices however the quality of the starter was excellent and the main courses perfectly cooked follow ups. We arrived at at 9pm, one hour before closing and weren't rushed or hurried. Service was polite and competent. I would say this place was a real gem, quality ingredients and good service, just a shame about the building itself.

Antalia is an Excellent Restaurant

By Michael F |

I started going to Antalia Turkish restaurant last month and found it to be excellent. Every meal I had there was great. The staff is exceptional and the suggestions made turned out to be all fantastic. The atmosphere and cleanliness have also been great. This definitely has now become a regular dining location for me!

Good Find for Lunch near Grand Central

By kt3 |

My wanderings took me to Antalia for lunch. I had actually planned on going to a Chinese place across the street, but was looking for something more sit-down, so headed across to Antalia. I ended up ordering a lentil soup and a white bean salad. Both were ok and reasonably priced. The best thing about the meal was the bread, warm and fluffy and the spread. Waiters were attentive and since these dishes were both appetizers, the price was very reasonable. NYC has plenty of these unassuming places, so wouldn't call this place a destination, but enjoyed my lunch.

Leaves a bad taste in your mouth in more than one way

By Nooneno1 |

This restaurant manages to give a bad name to beautiful town of Antalya, to Turkish food and Turkish people at the same time. Below is a dinner experience from last week. When we ordered a bottle of Italian wine and they happened to be out of stock but wouldn't say and instead brought a really bad bottle of CA wine and said that was all they could supply to substitute. We asked for the manager and to our astonishment the person who represented himself as a manager was so rude that people around stopped eating for a moment. His shpiel was short and discourteous: "I don't care what the menu offers- I can change it any time I want- you don't want to drink this Californian $4 wine that I have available for you pay extra $10 and I bring you a FINE(?) bottle of Turkish wine." And he left. We ended up ordering Turkish beer which was OK. The bread basket happened to be filled with cheap toasted wyhite bread instead of traditional flat Turkish bread or at least simple Pita and left untouched. Babaganush was nothing special but eatable as opposed to Haydari which was supposed to be a creamed yogurt with dill and walnuts but walnuts were hardly present and yogurt was not creamed- half left untouched. Main course: lamb and beef adanas- very little lamb, plenty of salt and dry- rice was the best part of the dish. And then apotheosis of the dinner: chef special: only God and chef know what it was: thick bed of crotons covered with thin layer of Gyro kinda meet also very dry and salty mixed with tomato sauce?? and the rest of the plate filled with plain Greek yogurt as side- picture attached- left mostly untouched and yes it is as bad as it looks. By the time they brought the dessert dinner was ruined completely so we just paid and left not taking chances trying it- didn't look much better than the rest. Any restaurant in the area would be a safer bet.

Fresh wholesome food

We took a chance going here as we saw it advertised by a man holding a bill-board on 5th Avenue. We were not disappointed as the ambiance, service and food was some of the nicest. Our bill with a glass of Efes and glass of wine was £66. We both had chicken kebab with chips or rice and plates of hoummos and aubergines served with oven fresh bread - a delight and it was Christmas day to-boot.

Great for lunch

An Talia is on 45th and 5th. Greek restaurant with really great food. The ceiling upstairs is very low! The skewered chicken & rice is really good.

Average

Looking for food in the neighborhood and stumbles across Antalia. Not full = quick service. Likeable place, but it did not stand out to that degree that we wanted to return.

A very pleasant Turkish experience!

By TennesseeDouglas |

17 W. 45th St. Recommended by a Brooklyn native, this was a great return to Turkish culture. We had the Doner (the Turkish version of Gyros), manti (pasta stuffed with ground beef served in a yogurt sauce) and zucchini cakes. Suggest spitting orders! Staff is Turkish and most gracious.

Close your Eyes, Taste, and you are in Turkey

By Stanley S |

I stumbled upon this restaurant while staying at the Sofitel Hotel. It is pretty much looks like your average hole in the wall New York sidewalk restaurant, but believe me - what a taste delight inside. Authentic Turkish meals. We had the Turkish lamb meatballs, the mixed grill, okra casserole, and ground chicken kabobs. It was so good we went two times during our short stay. The Turkish coffee and baklava were delightful. I thought the service was great, the host/hostess very welcoming and would highly recommend this restaurant. They also deliver!

Good food

By Markus997 |

Visited this place with several people with work. Everyone enjoyed their food. Server brought the wrong item for one of the guests, but she took it anyway and was happy. I had the lamb and it was excellent. Definitely recommend this place.

Great dinner!

By Mary831 |

We loved our hummus appetizer & our dinners; shishkebob and daily Gyro special. The service was wonderful, the portions very large & good enough wine list. I'd definitely recommend !

excellent meal

1st time at this restaurant. Extremely tasty, salmon was grilled to perfection. Bread divine. Looking forward to a return visit often and trying many other things. Terrific varied menu

Don't walk past it - go inside and be delighted

By Mark K |

It's not the fanciest place in midtown Manhattan. For years I had walked right past until a friend invited me there since it is down the street from his West 45th street office. There are not a lot of Turkish restaurants in Manhattan and certainly not in midtown. Very reasonable prices, pleasant people working there. It feels family run. And the food is excellent - much better than you might expect given the muted and somewhat outdated decor.

Awesome food

Great food. Reasonable price. Awesome falfel, babaganoush. Very good n friendly service. Food served quickly. Complementary bread was very crispy n delicious.

Not as advertised

By Beekeeperjudge |

We wanted a quick, inexpensive lunch. A guy was handing out menus for Antalia on a corner in NYC. we carefully looked through it and saw that 7 different kinds of sandwiches were offered. That was what we wanted, so we walked over to Antalia and were given a table. When we ordered sandwiches, we were told they weren't on the menu that day. No effort was made to accomodate us (how hard is it to make a sandwich?). We left without eating.

Watch out Groupon Users - OK Turkish food

By wacotom |

Well let me complain first. Our usual Turkish Restaurant closed so we are looking for a new "great" place. Finding a Groupon for AnTalia I thought it would be worth a try. First of all you say Groupon and suddenly a different menu is given to you. I absolutely hate this process and if the place was perfect the most I could do is give it 4 stars. Therefore we could not select many items using the Groupon. Shame shame on the restaurant. Now on to the review. We selected a Peasant Salad - upgraded for extra dollars to make it large enough for two, It actually was very good lots of tomatoes, cucumber onions and feta cheese. We were offered a couple glasses of house wine or Turkish beer with the Groupon. I selected the beer and was very happy with it. We were also given a bread basket which had more than enough warm bread. Nothing special but the olive tapenade was very nice. My wife ordered grilled lamb and I had what was essentially iskander kabob. Both items were large portions and both were reasonably good. The lamb was perfectly prepared and of the two was probably the better choice but once again an upcharge to select the lamb. The iskander kabob was average at best. Not bad but nothing to make me want to come back. Finally we were brought a custard like baked item. It was good but again only one dessert to be shared. I am not ready to say AnTalia is going to be our go to Turkish Restaurant in Manhatten. It is OK but just not that "great" place we are looking to find.

Hard to Believe People Like This Place

By Bob S |

The first thing you notice when you walk in the door of this hole-in-the-wall eatery is the total lack of decor. We interpreted this to be a good sign since we assumed the food must be fantastic since they are still in business. Wrong! The decor IS the highlight. The food is terrible! We were a party of 5. No one liked their dinner. The Mercimek Kofte (Red Lentil Patties) appetizer was totally dried out and was sent back after one bite. The beef & lamb Adana entree was described to us as skewered kebobs but came as greasy hamburger patty's; the menu said served with rice & vegetable but no vegetables just some lettuce leaves & a midget tomato. The calf's liver came as little tiny over fried bites of unrecognizable meat -- also sent back. The Chicken Shish Kebab was over cooked & dried out with an attempt to disguise it with a horrible red coating of some kind of "sauce". Two of us were using a Living Social coupon. When we presented the coupon we were told that the others in our party were not allowed to eat or drink anything that we ordered with coupon (ex. appetizers). No problem -- no one wanted any of it. Finally, when we told the host about the food, he said others like it. Period. Given the confined space it was almost impossible to talk. The host was rude. The wine that came with the LS coupon was terrible. Unless you are desperate, I would avoid this restaurant. There are many, many better choices in NYC.

Good Food, good service

food was good, little over priced for what you get but what do you expect for NYC, Falafal for $18. It was Good, and the servers were attentive

A Turkish Friend Recommended

By Richard B |

This was my first time at the AnTalia and it was at the advice from a friend that I tried it. Made a reservation for 5:15 on Saturday evening and there were plenty of empty seats. I started with the shepherds salad of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers and red onion. Ordered the "small" and still had plenty to bring home. For my entree I ordered the beef and lamb Adana. The meat was seasoned perfectly and not well done. It came with rice. This was washed down with a pleasant Turkish red wine, Ancyra. I passed on dessert but did have a cup of Turkish tea, which tasted good on a cold night. I did not find the prices unreasonable and the portions were of decent size. The staff was pleasant and attentive but not overbearing. It's location is about a block and a half from Grand Central Station and several blocks from Times Square. Definitely plan on going back

Terrific Turkish Delight

By Jobuckley |

Great Turkish food. Terrific service. Casual dress. Reasonably priced. There was nothing we didn't like about this place. We have been in Turkey enough to know a few words and enjoyed getting to practice on staff. They are the real deal. The bread and olive paste were excellent (and included with dinner).

Shepherd's Salad was disappointing

By Kenneth K |

Granted it is a one time visit getting just one item- and it's off season for veggies. But still- the portion was small. Not as good as I expected from an authentic Turkish place. This dish is a staple and it was far from good. I'm sure I will try them again and for additional items. Will write a follow on review at a later date.

Casual Mediterranean

By mariluzot |

Loved the food, customer service, nice place vibe. I went there for diner, affordable prices, great location. I will definitely come back.

Very good food; outstanding baklava

By aaron l |

We had a dinner made up of many small dishes. All were fresh and tasty and nicely presented in above-average portions. Good, hot bread. There were many choices on the large-plate menu that looked good as they went by. Open kitchen. Attentive and knowledgeable service. Will return. The only negative: they do not serve real mint tea.

Fun for sharing

By nagoyafrog |

Went here for dinner and we were very happy with the choice. We ordered several dishes and shared everything. The gyros, the grilled seabass and the appetizer mix of hummus, taboleh, etc were great.

PreTheater Dinner

By Terry M |

What a wonderful dinner we ate.Mediterranean is my favorite food so it would be very disappointing to go wrong. We started with excellent appetizers- we shared and a 3 pre course theater dinner. Perfect amount of food as we shared everything between ourselves. The restaurant is perfect for this atmosphere. I definitely recommend returning or going there.

Tasty Turkish cuisine in the theater district

By BizLuxTrvlr |

Had a lovely meal at AnTalia with friends before attending the theater. We started with the Shepard salad (like a Greek salad but Turkish), followed by the lamb meat balls which were very tasty and more like large ground lamb patties rather than small meatballs. Great service in a nice atmosphere. There is also a pre-theater 3 course menu.

Excellent Turkish food..vegan selections marked!

By judymorris1 |

Just off Fifth Ave..had a lovely lunch! Eggplant salad super, falaffel , savory sides, and we tried a tasty dry white Turkish will. Dinner menu was tempting!

Not so good.

By Wherecar54 |

Overall because of the price I rate it poor. So what’s good and what’s bad. The service: average to less than average. I mean if you are the only table occupied how hard is it to be attentive to the customers, to bring ice and water to the table and to make sure the glasses are full on a 90 degree day. I should not have to let them know to bring ice and water. Obviously, they don’t want to be there, they walk around like zombies. The Bread: Warm and good. The Hummus: reasonable good flavor, not enough olive oil, and a little too grainy. I like it smooth like good pudding. I had the Iskander kabob, it was not a kabob, it was a gyro type of meat, flavorless and smothered in some kind of tomato sauce, NOT what I expected. The yogurt was good though, but that’s it. The chicken kabob was not bad, but NO flavor! I mean you’re in the food business it doesn’t come spiced! The bill was 60 dollars for 2 entrees and Hummus, don’t eat here.

Turkish Delight

Not much to look at,but step inside and a warm welcome awaits from the friendly staff. A good choice of authentic Turkish dishes and wines at reasonable prices for midtown.
