We came here for a birthday celebration. Service was ok. But the food was really terrible and it was very expensive.

This was a very good option for a nice but casual Greek lunch. My omelet was good, and so too were my wife’s Greek Salad and the bread/spread. Service was quick and friendly too.

We ate here for their fixed price lunch. We both had their $25 fixed price lunch, and both had different options. We loved it all. You may be thinking, "Ya gotta be kidding! $25 for lunch?" BUT compared to other NYC prices we saw, we were very satisfied. A lot of tasty, Mediterranean food with a great drink? Satisfied..... Service was good. Restaurant was nicely decorated and comfortable. All around happiness. Oh, and it's an easy walk from the Loews Regency!

The best part was that this was close to Bloomingdales. The food was very very pricey and it was average. The service was good but there is nothing special about his place. The glass of wine was over priced. I would only go back to get the Price Fix

We walked past this place and found it charming ... decided to make a reservation for the next day. We were in a large group with kids. Our table was ready waiting for us. Our server was attentive and efficient. Service is not the usual American super fast and we actually liked it as this is a place to be enjoyed. Bread and hummus for every table - delicious. Food was also delicious. The octopus appetizer divine.

never disappoints...upbeat vibe and great energy! am partial for the octopus, yet it is my fav dish here and the closest I have found to being in Greece...and easy peasy across the street from Bloomingdales entry! do pop in and give it a try for a glass of vino or delic choices for a meal

An easy find walking down from the RI cable car, and very near Bloomingdale’s. We had cocktails, beer, really filling mains and a great sour cherry cheesecake to eat. Good, lively atmosphere and a very pleasant waiter made this a nice evening. We had a window seat and was a fab people watching spot too.

We were just walking by and stumbled upon this restaurant and I’m glad we did! Located across the street from Bloomingdales. Great service. The serve bread as a starter and immediately bring water. The Anasazi Chips were phenomenal. I had the Lobster Ravioli and my husband had the Organic Chicken, both were fantastic!

This should have been at least a 4-star review. Alas, it was not. We popped in on a chilly October night expecting to find a similar high-quality experience, which had so impressed me at their Astoria location over the years. The place was packed as expected, which should have been an excellent sign. We waited to be shown a table, and as we headed to where we should have been seated, a couple rushed ahead of us and grabbed our table. I was cut off from my partner and got lost in the process. When we reunited, we were forced to go upstairs where we were forgotten about until I got the attention of the waiter. When we ordered our meal, lamb chops with a side order of tarama, the waiter who was supposed to be serving us thought we were leaving. Finally, the food came. The chops were not succulent and the tarama tasted off. I think I will stick to their Astoria location. This was neither a pleasant experience nor a satisfying meal. We do not intend to return. My three stars are a bit generous, I should add!

Saturday evening dinner: upstairs is significantly quieter. The octopus appetizer was excellent, the meatballs average. For dinner, the shrimp mousaka was pretty good. The wine seemed expensive. Service was attentive and our waitress came by often. Desserts are large. On the whole, it was a great place, but just seemed about 20% too expensive in comparison.

An ideal location for that glass of wine after trolling the B's (Bloomies, Barney's and Bergdorf): it's right at the corner of East 60th and 3rd Avenue. Anassa Taverna is a good-sized place, with the dining areas broken up into smaller sections to keep the cozy feeling. We sat at the bar, enjoyed the hummus and some other appetizers. The food was typically Greek, not terrifically original but more than adequate, and I would go back, to try one of the dinner entrees. In general, it's a comfortable little joint in a part of town that could use many more moderately-priced, easy go-to places like this.

This popular Greek restaurant is in my neighborhood and across the street from Bloomingdale's Department Store. It is a large, light filled corner space that serves consistently good fare. The prix fixe 3 course lunch menu at $ 25.95 is a filling meal and great value. Their complimentary bread and hummus is excellent. On our most recent trip, we really enjoyed our Greek Salad, Sardines, Chicken Brochette on a bed of tomato, lettuce and pita (with copious tzatziki). My lunch partner was too keen on the baklava but I really enjoyed it; it's very 'nutty' rather than 'flaky'.

This spot is super popular - so much so the restaurant remained packed the entire duration we were there for dinner and it was hard to hear others at the same table speaking. The food is delicious, although for some dishes I do wish the proportions of the main advertised meal were larger. I liked the restaurant enough to consider coming back another time outside of NYC restaurant week and my friend and I had a good meal together.

Had the chance to eat a late lunch at Anassa. The lunch prifix is a great deal for midtown east. For $27, they offered an appetizer, main dish and dessert. I had the grilled octopus which was by far one of the most flavorful and delicate octopus I’ve had. The special was the Arctic Char with caramelized onion risotto. For dessert, the baklava was a must, being a Greek restaurant. Overall, the staff was friendly and attentive, the decor was sophisticated yet cozy and great food

A great find. Real food right by Bloomingdales. Nice service and delicious food. They offer a lovely prix fixe at lunchtime, but unfortunately my guests only wanted a sandwich. Great bread with sauces and daily Greek specials. Go at or before 12 for lunch as it is a highly sought after restaurant.

We stopped here for a late lunch. First we missed lunch by arriving at 3:42 and were advised it was dinner only. Ok, but 12 minutes seems nit picky when it’s still well before 4 PM. Who eats dinner at 3:45? Seriously? While the the waiter was pleasant enough, it took 40 minutes in a non crowded restaurant to actually have our meal served. When we got the meal, the orzo was over done, the mussels and clams still had a significant amount of sand and the food was lukewarm. I would not return here.

Good position in New York City. Staff helpful and very kind. Food is traditional from Greece and you can choose from a daily menu (25 $ for 3 courses) or a la carte. Not as tasty as the rest their cakes.

Any different feelings for this place. Servers stood around and really didn't attend to needs. I had to request coffee 3 different times. Water on the other hand flowed like a river. We came for brunch. Food was 4 stars. Atmosphere was 5. Service was at best low 3. Saved baklava for last with ice cream. Yum

Food was fresh and delicious. Ordered 6 apps for the two of us. Grilled octopus and shrimp Saganaki superb. Greek salad delicious. Meatballs presented beautifully and delicious. Service super attentive and friendly. Highly recommend

Eggs Benedict was lame. Over cooked eggs and they left the hollandaise sauce off. The bacon was good though. Service was fine

We all enjoyed our meals at Anassa Taverna. Lots of fish and Mediterranean food. Able to accommodate gluten-free diets. You can get a full meal or salads and appetizers. Tuna tartar appetizer was excellent as was the fish baked with vegetables, lamb chops and swordfish. Get a table upstairs, it's much quieter and there is a nice view.

Totally disappointing and ridiculously overpriced. The $33 shrimp moussaka had only 4 shrimps in it. The fish soup tasted like canned minestrone that had been heated up with a few soggy pieces of fish and the $17 cocktail had virtually no alcohol. I so regret dragging my husband into this price gouger one evening when we have so many better and more satisfying options to choose from in our neighborhood. At least I ‘ve learnt my lesson. If you have any sense you’d make it yours too.

We got to the city later than expected so had to wait to eat until after a performance. We stumbled across this restaurant while walking and had a wonderful meal. Their anassa chips are delicious! Greek menu - super spanikopita/spinach pie. My partner had the lobster ravioli which he thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm glad we stumbled upon Anassa Taverna for Sunday brunch (Serendipity was completely mobbed, of course) before I read the recent TA reviews (whoa, people, you can express your dislike without being so vituperative...). We had a simply delightful experience. Loved the atmosphere--open and airy--a slice of Mediterranean (or Aegean...) lifestyle. Got there just before noon so it wasn't crowded. The 5 of us enjoyed a sunny corner table, excellent service, and delicious food. Loved my Bellini, my sister had a snazzy Virgin Mary. All of us cleaned our plates from Eggs Benedict to Florentine. My daughter had the grilled chicken with oregano fries which she also loved. The hummus and the tzatziki and the bread were excellent. Overall, the dining experience was relaxed and enjoyable. Soooooo glad we stumbled upon it.

Nice restaurant, quick service. Medium-high prices. The food is good, but nothing mind blowing. Overall a average experience.

This place has the best food in all of New York. If you try once, you will never like anything any where else. This is a fact.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was able to get a table for three with no wait. The hummus and bread platter was excellent. Lobster ravioli, cheeseburger and egg white omelettes were our picks and all were very good. Will definitely go back again. Very enjoyable atmosphere.

We got one of the better tables which looks out over Bloomingdales and allows you to watch the shoppers. We were there early for lunch and the place filled up pretty quickly. It can get a bit noisy. The complimentary bread and hummus was good. We shared some appetisers which was enormously for lunch. The mussels were very large and meaty/chewy. We prefer smaller and sweater. The fried cheese was actually pretty good. The pita and mixed dips wasn’t as good as the complimentary bread and hummus. Overall pretty average food. Go for a drink to people watch or find a different restaurant if you want good Greek food.

Excellent place for a long afternoon late lunch. We stopped in for a quick snack and ended up staying for a few hours. The service was great and the food worth go back for.

I came here as this place was rated 4.5 stars on OpenTable but yet again I am left disappointed in that OpenTable reviewer either know nothing about food or the reviews and star rating is rigged to keep the paying client (restaurant) on the program. I ordered the lamb salad on recommendation by the server after I asked him which lamb dish was best on the weekend menu. The salad was a pile of fresh spinach, which was fresh, and some sliced lamb arranged on top. The presentation was good with some traditional eggplant salad on the side. The biggest error was the lamb! Thinly sliced lamb roast and then seared on a grill doesn't work!!! Lamb needs to be served at most medium rare otherwise it completely loses its flavor and becomes like dead mutton. Sliced lamb roast without the searing (left on the grill way too long) makes it near disgusting. Sadly this is probably a fairly good place but like many NYC establishments consistency is not achievable... Good luck if you go as it is probably a hit and miss place.

What a find, we were hungry for lunch and on our way to Bloomingdale’s when we saw this lovely busy place on the corner. Fantastic service and a super menu, we could’ve picked lots of dishes. Beautifully presented food, lovely ambience and super wine list.

Enjoyed some very good Greek-themed seafood (salmon with spinach & rice side dish) on my way to the nearby Roosevelt Island Tramway. The restaurant has both indoor and curbside seating available.

At a very convenient location, right on the corner of 3rd Avenue and E 60th St, "Anassa Taverna" brings Greek traditional cuisine to Lennox Hill. We did enjoy every moment at this unpretentious taverna: friendly welcoming, professional service and delicious food. We ordered their "Prix Fix Menu" at US$ 25.95 per person, including a starter ("Classical Greek Salad" - tomatoes, cucumber, onion, pepper, olives and feta cheese), main course ("Pasta ala Greca" - Rigatoni pasta with fresh tomato, spinach and feta cheese) and dessert ("Walnut Cake" - with cinnamon and lemon syrup). Fantastic! We added two glasses of "Agiorgitiko", a nice Greek red wine. Check their "Prix Fix Menu" and discover other delicious options (as "Grilled Octopus" and the "Fish of the Day"). We left happy, ready to cross 3rd Avenue and stroll along Bloomie's endless aisles! Reservations are strongly recommended. Bon Appétit!

Positively surprised. The lamb kebab kofta thing was probably the weakest bit of the menu, but everything else was very close to authentic - great when you consider the area. Very expensive for what it is obviously. Lovely ouzo and enthusiastic staff!

Anassa is a pretty restaurant in a good location. However the prices did not match the quality of the food. Our striped bass dish was bland without any interesting sides. The fish soup appetizer was tasty and we also enjoyed the octopus appetizer. The other entree we had was spaghetti with lobster. None of us were a fan of the presentation with the whole lobster under the pasta. This dish was also quite average. Dinner for two was over $160 with only one drink and no dessert!

We are delighted to find this neighborhood taverna in the Upper East Side, just across from Bloomingdale's. We had the Greek salad (what else!), and it was excellent. The service is fine, although the main dining area is on the noisy side. Highly recommended.

This restaurant serves mostly fish and does it well; it's a Greek flavor and everything we had was tasty. You should plan on spending over $60 with drinks - the cocktails were good though. As in every restaurant, it matters what you order. The fish did not come with a side so you have to get that extra. Don't get the moussaka, I agree with the other reviewer. They have a big room upstairs that was almost empty when we went so unless you really want to sit downstairs by the window I don't think you'll have a problem.

If you love Greek food or just good food don’t miss a visit to Anassa Taverna. The service was friendly and attentive. We started off by sharing the fried calamari . Certainly it was enough for two and very well prepared. My husband followed with Lamb chops. The Greeks are known for their lamb dishes and he was not disappointed. Said it was the softest lamb he had eaten. I had the red snapper in parchment paper with vegetables. Tasty and again well prepared. All meals were served in an unhurried manner and hot. Ended with hot molten chocolate dessert. Worth every calorie ! We will definitely return

The food was quite good. Service slow. I had the white fish on a pita with a lobster ragout sauce. Nice. The bread and hummus were delicious.

Had a bit of time to kill before dinner reservations. Sat at the Bar and the bartender was very nice and provided great service. They provided a hummus dip w/bread as we ordered the Grilled Shrimp along with a glass of Reisling and a cocktail that I don't recall the name. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and left us wanting more but couldn't be greedy with other reservations. I'd like to try other items on their menu with how delicious the shrimp were.

Place is cute but the food is mediocre. Nice service and great ambience, Though. It you come to eat that this place, just the bread os good

Nice restaurant but maybe a bit overpriced for the taste? I had a Lavarki fish which was nice but not super nice. The truffle fries are super tasty though. And the service is nice. Expect to pay 55-60 dollars for a meal, drink and side.

Big groups get charged 22% automatically. The food lacks flavor. It’s a quiet setting. This is just not a particularly good restaurant and the value is pretty bad.

The Sea Bass in the tomato sauce with soft potatoes and carrots is the best dinner. I crave it. Also, the fried zuccini chips are perfectly salted, crisp, and not at all soggy, like some places. Eaten with the Greek beer, it is a perfect dinner. The service is excellent, too.

We found Anassa Traverna by using the "Near Me Now" feature on Trip Advisor and were pleased with the suggestion! Stopped in for a quick glass of wine and some apps after some shopping on the Upper East Side. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant! The food was fresh and delicious. Our server recommended Mediterranean Spreads. The spicy one was our favorite!

We had a group of eight with good appetites after walking in the Park all afternoon, so we were ready for gourmet fish although one of us had the meatballs. The waiter knew our hosts who come here often, so we were in good hands for the entire time with delicious white fish, lobster ravioli, sea bass, octopus, and our vegetarian was happy with his sides. The outside street noise is something you need to get used to, I guess, and it can really intrude with ambulances and the like. But hey it is 60 th and 3rd in NYC! I did note that their NY steak was almost $50 for a 14 oz steak, but sheesh that's a little steep.

After a long day walking and while aiting to see the sunset over Jersey from Manhattan we had dinner at Anassa and it was real GOOD food and service from the staff so we enjoyed it a lot and recommend it.

As a last meal with our family before departing for the UK we had an early dinner at Anassa’s and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and the menu was enticing with some great dishes. I had the Anassa “chips” with the traditional Greek dips. This was fantastic. I’m not going to tell you what it’s made from. You’re going to have to try it for yourselves. I followed this with the lobster spaghetti which was a total surprise as it was a whole lobster👍 They have a good wine list and some interesting cocktails. It’s not the cheapest place to eat in NY but for somewhere just off the park it’s a great choice I recommend.

No booking necessary but busy restaurant. Had meals from the lite bite menu however the portions were huge! We had a lovely lunch- highly recommend the lamb kebab. Good service!

Anassa offers very reliable Greek food including excellent mezze and grilled fish. The sidewalk tables are particularly attractive.

Went to Anassa's for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. They had indoor and outdoor seating available. In addition the staff wore mask and there were electronic menus. We both got waffles, bacon and potatoes which were all good but the potatoes were in desperate need of seasoning.

The menu offered a big selection of traditional Greek dishes. We started with a bunch of appetizers of which I should point out a delicious grilled octopus and cheese saganaki. For entrees, we went for different types of fish all of which was very fresh and nicely prepared. The waitress was also very accommodating in splitting a regular entrée between the kids since they didn’t have a kids menu. The funny part was the loud “Happy Birthday” songs. Somehow there were 4-5 birthdays parties there the evening we were there and after the second one it got a bit tiring. But, then again, maybe that just added to the Greek celebration experience.

We absolutely loved everything we are here! We had the corner table, which made for interesting people watching while enjoying a leisurely lunch. The lamb chops were absolutely perfect. We shared octopus and Greek salads to start, and the wine list was wonderful.

Would not return or recommend. I ordered Tuna Tartar appetizer with soy & wasabi, it was bland so I requested more soy & wasabi, I was told they did not have any. The entree was fair at best and arrived while we were half way through our appetizer. The restaurant is dark and very noisy, difficult to converse. Too many great alternatives in NYC to give this place consideration.

Everything that we asked for was delicious, “pear up” cocktail it’s a must, shrimps coctel was awesome, the octopus really really delicious and also the lamb chops medium cooked just delicious and perfect, we also ask for ice cream at the end and was just wonderful! Such a great dinner in a perfect place, I’ll come back.

Stopped by in for lunch before I get to the food it’s a great place for people watching if you can get a window table. See had the creek salad which was a good start to your lunch then moved on to starters of mussels in a great sauce, octopus that wax tender and well cooked and the Truffle fries and where very good. Couple of glasses of wine to complement the meal. Very attentive staff.

We were invited to Anassa Tavera by a friend for a birthday celebration with about 20 people in attendance. We were seated in the upstairs in the restaurant which we shared with a few regular diners (probably not their favorite experience, but fine for our occasion). The hors d'oeuvres included regular and spicy hummus with pita, an olive tapenade with fresh bread slices, spanakopita and fried calamari. All were nicely prepared and presented on small wooden cutting boards or in dishes. For the entries, there were only two or three choices, and I had the organic chicken, which was very moist and nicely flavored. It came with fries, and then a tomato with what looked to be an herb yogurt on top (didn't try it). I would say my main complaint would be a lack of green vegetables or a Mediterranean salad. Service for drinks was very slow, but given the number of party guests, I can understand the logistic issues (the bar was downstairs). Table service during the meal seemed good, however, and the staff friendly. Overall, the restaurant might be worth another visit to have the experience as just a couple. I might also try their fish which on their regular menu may be offered with multiple selections. BTW, there is a reasonable parking garage diagonally across the intersection for $21 with an online coupon (Icon Bloom) for 3-4 hours or so, which is relatively decent in NYC.

Lunch menu is excellent value and of very high quality. Octopus is superb - soft, tasty and well prepared. Seafood Youvetsi also very tasty

Really loud. Unfriendly front of house and waiter. When asked for veggies instead of bread with the complimentary hummus due to Celiac Disease gluten restrictions, we were told NO. You can order veggies, but no subs. Ever other greek restaurant accommodated happily. Octopus starter was ok and expensive at $25. Horta veggie side was ok as delivered and helped with some additional olive oil and lemon additions. Monkfish special portion was large and judged ok, yet expensive at $34. Greek red wine by the glass was c+. Sad when places in Philly and Philly burbs kick their butt on all fronts. Maybe it was a bad lunch day since the place was packed. I won't return with too many other delicious options abounding.

Stopped in here to get out of the rain and get a drink. Had great drinks and food. The bartender, Sylvia helped us get a ride and all staff were amazing. We'll be back

The Greek salad is so fresh and even in March, the tomatoes taste like tomato. Excellent chunks of crisp vegetables and wonderful feta cheese. Apple bacon on the side because sometimes you just need to cheat. Farmer's omelet makes a good breakfast story.....as does eggs Benedict.!Service is usually perfect and fast. Never late for a movie with AT. It does help to make a reservation! Great place for a private event if you use the top floor!

Had dinner with family (2 adults and 2 kids ) twice drying my holidays in New York and I can say it is simply perfect The food is fresh and authentic , the service flawless It is it a white place , like many in New York , but it is fun and tasty I would come back over and over again

Excelent place and service! The dishes were wonderful. Really I enjoyed the place and the experience!

After being treated in an unacceptable way in Serendipity 3, we left the restaurant and went to Anassa Taverna. It's abdolutely an other type of restaurant but we needed to eat. Nice Surprise!!! The welcoming was warm, the restaurant was not to noisy, vonversation can be on a normal sound volume. But the Big Surprise was the food. It was excellent!!!! Really!!! The fish was cooked exactly like it should be. I took the speciality of the day an "Artic Char". Beautiful.... The side vegetable was very well seasoned and cooked. I really recommend this restaurant if you want to eat well. Of course Anassa Tavern has not been the site of a movie, but the cook is a star

Delicious greek/middle eastern food. Located close to Bloomingdales which is usually a wasteland for good food. Great fish soup. My favorite were the Anassa chips which were thinly sliced eggplant and zucchini service with taziki sauce. Also had arugula salad which was shared with 4 people. Portions are quite large so you may wish to begin with small plates

Went for a business dinner with a loca who just ordered as salad and a handful of appetizers to share. The Greek salad is a must and 3-4 appetizers was more than enough for 2

Five for dinner. Excellent service. Much too noisy. A bit rushed. Knowledgeable wait staff. We first shared a few terrific appetizers. (a) The grilled octopus was exceptionally well made: tender; clean tasting (probably sushi quality); very well-seasoned; just the right amount of onion and capers. (b) the beets served with a garlic puree were also wonderful: very fresh, juicy and sweet. Surprisingly, the garlic puree was subtle and did not overpower. (c) the classic Greek salad was simple and farm-fresh (wonderful tomatoes), but in my opinion the serving size was too small and the salad was a bit too basic. It needed a bit more acid. It was also twice the price it should have been. Entrees’ were hit or miss. For dinner, I had the pork shoulder wrapped in parchment paper (that seemed to stick to the bottom of the pork). Very disappointing. Dry. Under-seasoned. Needed lemon to raise the blandness level. The boiled potato (sprinkled with parsley and coated with butter) as garnish on top was clearly an after-thought to the dish. My sense is that Anassa is first and foremost a neighborhood restaurant, even though it is in a touristy part of town. That is to say, if you’ve been there a few times before you probably know what to and what not to order.

A little pricey for average food. We sat upstairs and the Place got very noisy. I had lamb chops that were a little over done, asked for rare and they came out medium. Just gave off the wrong vibe and never felt the love. Probably would not return based on how many other excellent Mediterranean restaurants there are that are less expensive for what u get.

We went to Anassa with a large group of work colleagues and sat upstairs. The wait staff was lovely and the appetizers were ok to good, but the main dish, the Monkfish tuesday special, was quite disappointing. There was so much cheese that it came up in one big blanket and completely smothered and overpowered what little monk fish there was. I wanted to be happier with it, but just couldn't find the dish under all the cheese (and I LOVE cheese).

Greek and Mediterranean food is often fairly boring - not here. This is a great place, somewhat crowded and a bit noisy at times but really well done food with variety and flavor. Anyone can find something they really like.

We came across this place after visiting the Roosevelt Island Tram, and it looked busy which is always a good sign! The hummus was the best we've ever tasted, and both chicken dishes we had were excellent. Highly recommend.

There are so many Greek restaurants in and around New York that it is hard to differentiate or pick the best. My wife and I accompanied my sister and brother-in-law to this restaurant and came away well satisfied. The restaurant serves a wide range of Mediterranean food although it also offers standard items like beefburger and steaks. We had a selection of red meat and fish which were all tastefully prepared. Well worth a visit if you happen to be in the neighbourhood.

this restaurant was a surprise the first time I wanted to take a break from Bloomingdales shooping, now is a must every time I go to NYC. Superb cooking, salads, best meatballs in manhattan. if you like greek, international, meet or fish, this is the place around this neighbourhood.

Anassa is a very cosy place with a large choice of dishes in its menu. I went there for a business lunch and I ordered grilled pulp and Mediterranean mix of starters. Service was very good, as well as the quality of the meal. Nice ambiance and caring personnel.

I love greek food, is a new for me! And is an awesome place, lots of food, good bread, good dessert... the service was really good!

I’ve been here many times when traveling to NYC for business. It’s a beautiful, clean, friendly place with amazing food. In the summer they open its doors. Any negative review is BS. I always have the Romain salad and lemon potatoes. I love all their fish and shrimp dishes too. They also serve free hummus with warm crusty bread. You never see that anywhere!

Our second visit -- just like the first. Loud and somewhat hurried, good fish but overpriced. Not sufficiently special to warrant the ~$10 per entree beyond what one might pay for comparably good Greek seafood and ambiance.

Stopped by with my wife for a drink and realize the rest and bar were so busy and full with customers. We tried the food and loved every dish especially octopus was lovely and don't miss the Greek salad as the rest is Greek of course.

Best Greek restaurant in Manhattan in the lower price range . I wish this restaurant would exist in Long Island . Delicious food . As a starter we shared saganaki. Main course Lobster Ravioli and Branzino. Dessert we had baklava ice cream with cherrys and molten chocolate cake . Food is beautiful presented and the staff is very professional.

Usually I don't go to Greek restaurants, but was happy with going here. The food was very good and the ambiance was very nice. We had a table by the window and really enjoyed the people watching. Had the fried calamari and Anassa Chips to start. The chips were a pleasant surprise. I had the lamb chops with oregano fries. The lamb was cooked to order, the fries were good, but not as good as my YiaYia used to make. My wife had the shrimp moussaka and liked it as well. Wife had the Anassanti and I had a couple Mythos. Overall a good restaurant, a little pricier than Astoria, but was worth it. One side note: Definitely felt bad for the servers though, heard a lot of people asking some ridiculous requests. But they seemed to handle them all without a problem.

After a hard day shopping at Bloomingdales, just step out the backdoor and fall into the arms of this wonderful restaurant. The food was incredible even according to 19- and 14-year-old males! That is quite a feat! My husband had a version of a Greek salad and I had mixed green salad but it contained grilled eggplant (very small pieces) and I topped it off with shrimp. Truly delicious.

Really nice, warm ambiance and perfect for special occasions. Food is authentic Greek and is very well prepared and presented. I had a sampling of dishes and all were perfect. Green salad, spannikoppita, calamari, striped bass, shellfish, organic chicken and Greek pasta. The bass was a standout! Staff was professional, attentive and efficient. There's also a small bar which makes any waiting very enjoyable.

Had a nice lunch with a friend. The food is very good and consistent each time. The menu is a bit pricey and staff is not particularly friendly most of the time but the food quality is excellent. I love the mezze plate.

Great lunch , here’ll salad , very fresh taste, fish was excellent, finisher with mango sorbet which was tasty and very good. Excelente

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Right across the street from Bloomingdales so a great spot after you shop the day away. I had the charred octopus which was delicious and the wild salmon entree. All were fresh and fantastic. A really nice Greek seafood dining spot in NYC.

Food was ok but service is very weak. Servers weren't very friendly and they confused our order. Instead of bringing two main dishes they brought only one as they thought we would share. They offered to fire the 2nd one but didn't make sense at that point of dinner. Then we ordered a bottle of wine but wasn't available so they came with a different bottle. Music is loud so forget to go with your couple - you wouldn't hear what he/she talks about from the other side of table. Good attempt of a restaurant in the area but it is overly pricey for what they offer.

Anassa Taverna Midtown , We held a bridal shower in their Midtown location yesterday. A private beautiful room upstairs, with its own bar, light and festive, with windows all around, airy and very spacious. and the food! Wow the food is so delicious! The service impeccable, they were so easy to work with, their party manager Olga was such an incredible help leading to our special event. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a private event up to 50-60 people. We had 45 people and it was just perfect, with plenty of room to mingle.

Right across 3rd ave from Bloomingdales, shop and then grab a terrific meal. Lovely Greek Taverna with a nice staff. We had oysters and the charred octopus to start. Both fantastic. Split the whole fish of the day, simply grilled ( Black Sea Bass). Served with a lemon olive oil drizzle. DELICIOUS! This place is a winner.

Food was mediocre, especially for the price. Service was friendly, but I discovered after checking my credit card that they increased the tip.

Delicious Greek food in traditional, if not unspectacular setting on 3rd avenue and 60th. All dishes we ordered were fresh, delicious and exceeded expectations. Service was polite and professional. Prices were on the expensive end but the food was certainly very good. This is a restaurant that is perhaps better for a family dinner, low key night out than say a special night out on the town. If that's what you're looking for, , with delicious Greek food, I highly recommend.

Went for Saturday brunch with my daughter. Our reservation was honored and all was good, until the waitress took our order of egg whites and blueberry pancakes. She repeated the order to us incorrectly, but she left with us thinking we were getting our correct order. Over 20 minutes pass, people sit down next to us, order, and get their food and still we have nothing. And what's worse, is that waitress never comes over. I flag her down and ask for a manager. They are checking in the kitchen. By the time our meal arrives, people next to us are finished, my daughters egg whites are eggs, but no one comes over to check on us. We share the 3 small pancakes. We receive an apology from waitress with an offer for a free coffee. The manager takes 25percent off check. Our brunch experience was an upsetting experience which no one there handled well.

Looking at the prices on the menu, one would expect this to be a top tier Greek restaurant. It was not. In general, the food was average, although the lamb meatball appetizer and the ice cream dessert were quite good. I started with the Avgolemono soup, which was ok but inferior to the same soup at other Greek restaurants. The dorado I had for the main course was full of bones (you can't totally avoid bones with dorado but it's a question of degree). I really freaked out when the bill came.

Tourist trap beautiful terrace for New York but no service a single waiter running everywhere but with zero efficiency The manager who talks for hours with friends An industrial kitchen with a 1 star addition without service without anything such a shame!!!!!

Met some out of state friends here last day of NYC restaurant week. We had a fantastic meals amongst great company! the service was superb as was the food. I thought the price fixed menu had great choices. Would definitely go back again!

went there for lunch on a Monday Holiday. The menu was limited as they were only offering brunch. Which was disappointing because I had heard good things about the place. The brunch was, well, just brunch. Service was friendly and the food was good.

We had a lovely lunch here yesterday. My family has had many meals in Greece and the food lived up to our expectations. The portions of the small plates were actually large. The octopus was tasty and well cooked. Yia sou.

The service was bad,Food quality was really terrible I had ordered Lobster spaghetti and my guest had ordered Sea bass we had a starter calamari and everything was horrible Best to avoid

Thank you TA "near me now" app. We had a window table on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Excellent fare, very nice wine, superb service, and the visual onslaught that is this city going past the window. That's excellence. My wife's shrimp moussaka was quite unlike any moussaka we've had elsewhere, and way better in my opinion. More tasty eggplant, like in good eggplant parmigiana, and little of the far less interesting mashed/scalloped potato flavor/texture one usually gets. The fried eggplant & zucchini "chips" with tzatziki starter was really tasty, and my seafood risotto was better than the the lobster risotto I had the other evening at a more tony and expensive spot. The tzatzika wasn't as zesty as I expected but still was a great dip for the chips. I remain aghast at the mark-up for wines in this city, but the Harvest Time cab we had here was by far the best value we've enjoyed since our arrival. Hard to beat that TA app where one can come out of the Subway nearly anywhere in this city and find excellent fare with confidence within a few blocks, or decide there's nothing nearby worth trying.

I stopped at Anassa Taverna between a day of doctors visits. At 2pm on a Tuesday, the downstairs dining room was about 70% filled, but, being solo, the hostess "suggested" I sit at the bar. Not being the aggressive type, I complied, although there was only one seat available at the very end of the bar. My plan was to have a quick bite and a nice glass of chilled wine. If I had more time, I would have gone with the prix fixe luncheon which looked like a steal for the price. I was torn between grilled octopus ($21), or tuna tartare($20), but chose the more pedestrian later. I was not disappointed. The tartare was nicely presented as a layered round of avocado with a generous to layer of cubed tuna and a sprinkle of nuts, on top of a drizzle of sauce. The sauce, which contained just a trace of wasabi was subtle and pleasant, although a bit skimpy. Tuna was at perfect temperature and the avocado deliciously soft and fat rich. I was also served a welcome of first rate crusty bread and a bowl of the most delicious hummus. I am a hummus lover, but this was really excellent -so creamy (I'd love to know how they get it that way)and rich with fresh garlic. I also ordered wine from their by the glass offering, choosing a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. While it was $14, the serving was generous. I did not see the label, but it certainly was not one of the low priced NZ Sauvignons which are often too thin and acidic. This one was much more reminiscent of a good Sancere, crisp, but with a full mouth feel. A bit pricey for my budget, but considering the location, probably reasonable. I will have to go again for the octopus, only next time, I won't be bullied into sitting at the bar.

I think the octopus served at Anassa is the best served in NYC!! Seriously, it's amazing and you need to try it. The greek salad is terrific too! It's a busy restaurant given it's location but I generally find the service is efficient.

Lovely bread and hummus served before meals arrived. Fantastic Greek salad with tomatoes, bell peppers, parsley and capers all tasting as if they came right out of the garden. Wonderful feta cheese as well. Delicious and heart healthy choice. Wife had lobster ravioli which was quite delicious, filled with very fresh lobster meat complimented by lovely subtle sauce. Major kudos. Window seating is pretty tight squeeze but perfectly acceptable. 60th street is quite unpleasant with traffic but this all disappears when the food appears. Nice service. Very reasonable!

We were out exploring Upper East Midtown/Upper East Side and found this spot near Bloomingdales that was packed so we thought we would try it. I think we got the last table in the restaurant. Our service was very quick and efficient even though the restaurant was packed on both floors. We had the trio of dips (Tarmosalata, Skordalia and Fava Puree). Saganaki, Shrimp Saganaki, and Meatballs. Everything but the shrimp were terrific. They had been slightly over cooked (better than under cooked) but not so bad that we sent them back. A couple of glasses of Greek red wine were also enjoyed. It was a good meal but not great due to the shrimp. Restaurant was very compact and the bathrooms were upstairs so if you are physically impaired this would probably not be a good choice. I don't remember seeing an elevator. Would try it again next time we are in the neighborhood.

Sara and I stopped in by chance. Fabulous lamb for me an seafood for Sara. Such a great place with wonderful service from Ryan- who has a remarkable resemblance to Kevin Spacey. He was charming and attentive.

The food was very good. The atmosphere is great IF you are in the right spot. There is a large area upstairs I suggest.

When you walk into the restaurant it has a charming warm decor. Plexiglass divides each table. We were served humus and thick toasted bread right away. The Greek salad was solid with onions, small cucumbers and even a few capers. The grilled octopus appetizer was delicious. The seafood medley with orzo & feta was excellent and hearty. Only wish our waiter was better. He never checked on us. I had to recruit another sweet waitress to fill our waters and clear our plates.

Their hummus and bread was yummy, but the highlight was the grilled octopus. We had it with a bottle of Prosecco, and it was the perfect meal on a perfect NY night.

The food here is very good indeed but heavily seafood focused. Our party of four split appetizers which is the way to go. Wait staff is very accommodating for sure. Worth a visit.

Nothing Greek here. Not the waiters not the chefs. Unprofessional. Weird vibe. I asked about the chef and the waiter said "they don't have to be Greek trained. They follow a formula". No sign of an owner or manager on site. Bad omen. I predict this place will close within a year.

A place close to our hotel, a most average welcome with a non-professional waitress chatting with...probably a couple of friends, we honestly had the impression of disturbing... The only positive point was the manager who was still attentive. As for the food, a steak as tough as a sole, cooked rare and received more than medium-rare. All this for a hefty bill! Damage

Dropped in for lunch while shopping. They have a lunch special that is an appetizer, entree and dessert for $29. We each got a different appetizer to share. I had the lamb kebobs, and baklava. Tasty lunch, fair price, and good service.

After a long day of walking, shopping, touring and dealing with crowds of people, our party of 4 was ready for a quiet, relaxing dinner. And we got that at Anassa Taverna. We were there around 8 pm on a Saturday night and got seated very quickly. The lights were dim and the ambience was very calming. Our service was excellent and the food, although a little pricey, was extremely good.

Visited with family on a Friday night. Nice venue, good reception and really good service. We ate lobster ravioli and Lavrika. A whole fried fish. Everything tasted good, have eaten better but also worse. But...the prices for this type of food, Greek/Mediterranean were way too expensive. 35 dollars for the fish, 30 dollars for the pasta and hold on. $14 for "sides" of potatoes. Nice place, affordable no.

Anassa Tavern is across the street from Dylan’s Candy Bar. Stopped there for lunch and the food was very good. It wasn’t explained that if we ordered a choice of spreads that these come with light pita breads - as well as delicious bread. All too much for us - caution: don't fill up on the bread and hummus! We ordered a trio of dips, including their delicious eggplant dish. Fried calamari, Greek salad, excellent beef burgers and chicken dishes - with Greek beer - very enjoyable. Service was attentive and good balance between helpful and unobtrusive.

This place has the best lamb kebab I've ever eaten. The other dishes our party enjoyed included Pasta a la Greca, Greek meatballs, and oysters on the half shell. All were fantastic. While we waited for the mains to come out, we snacked on some amazing hummus and some bread drizzled in olive oil The service was fast and friendly. The wine list offered plenty of great pairings. Delicious.

The menu read well but the food was BAD. The greek salad was ok but my chicken dish was horrible and both of my quests said their food was terrible. So loud that it was difficult to hear one another. I do NOT recommend.

Had the most fantastic meal at Anassa. The food was so flavorful. The beet salad with the almond and garlic was delicious. If you never had beets before or think you don’t like them this dish will change your mind. The octopus was so tender. We had the faroe salmon and snapper entrees. They were cooked to perfection. The service from Yera and Kahn couldn’t have been any better. They were both so accommodating and very friendly. The ambiance to very comfortable. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!

We recently held a bridal shower at Anassa Taverna Midtown. In short, it turned out excellent, with wonderful food and even better service. Although we live 1,000 miles from NYC, and had to make all our plans long distance with Olga, everything worked out just as she promised. We had a private room upstairs that was beautiful, and very open and bright. We had 25 guests and found the room to be plenty big enough for us to mingle, eat and hold some “bridal shower games”. There was a small bar in the corner and, most importantly, there was both men’s and women’s restrooms located upstairs. We had a wide variety of Greek appetizers, we selected a choice of chicken, snapper or lamb skewers (which were outstanding) for the meal, and some of the best baklava I have ever had for dessert. Besides Olga, a special thanks has to go out to Juan, Eliana and all the servers. I would highly recommend Anassa Taverna to anyone looking for a venue to hold a small event.`

Stopped in quite by chance after spending an hour next door in Dylan's Candy Bar. Appetizers, drinks, dessert. The service was quick and friendly; the waiter (Ryan) seemed genuinely happy to see us. Food tasted like it was prepared right before it arrived. I recommend the eggplant/cucumber chips! The baklava was perfect. I'd say overall the price was a bit high for the location. Also, there was a foreign object in one of our desserts, but to their credit, they apologized quickly and comped the desserts, which was the right move. Overall, I'd definitely come here again.

I have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed dining here. My friend and I ate here for restaurant week. There were many items to choose from. My dining companion ordered the grilled mushrooms and lobster ravioli. I ordered the various spreads and the lobster ravioli. Service was not rushed and my friend and I had time to catch up with one another. We both enjoyed our choices and would dine here again. If you dine here try to get a window table on the side of the restaurant. This is a restaurant that would also be good for families,

We went to the Anassa Taverna before the theater tonight. The place was almost completely full at 6 PM on a Saturday evening; the upstairs room was apparently reserved for a later event. The starter with excellent bread and a superb hummus with fresh garlic was absolutely delicious. The wine list is pretty good with a couple of interesting Greek wines. We enjoyed an Oregon Pinot Noir and a German Riesling. Our calamari was very disappointing, with overcooked batter with almost no flavor. My companion's grilled sea bass was absolutely perfect. The seafood on my rissoto was excellent, although there were only six pieces, and the risotto was the very liquid type with very good flavor but with no crust at all. Coffee was excellent.

Really enjoyed my lunch here. One of the very few meals I couldn't finish because there was soo much food: We went upstairs by the window. I ordered spreads as a starter (to share) which included taramasalata and humus and then the Pork shoulder and a baklava for dessert. I would go back to this place anytime.

Excellent service, delicious food, very nice atmosphere. WE enjoyed a pleasant view onto the streets of nyc while enjoying brunch.

Trying to understand why this restaurant is so popular, I can only think - location ! Having done reviews for quite a while this was one of my worst dining experiences. It is a large restaurant, with tables very, very close together, and a noise level that precludes any normal conversation (unless you like listening in to your neighbors) The hostess had an attitude from the moment we asked to change tables , which we were told we couldn't The menu is pseudo greek - many favorites are not on the menu. Strange also they serve french bread, not pita with humus. Our waiter was on us constantly to order, starting when we had just sat down and hadn't even looked at the menu yet. Surprised to read about a price fixed menu for lunch as we were not told about it. Our meal was rushed, with both salad and main course brought out at the same time. We were never asked if we would like refills on our coffee, and the check was put down when the coffee was served. If this was an inexpensive restaurant i can understand the need to turn tables quickly at lunch, but at this price point one has the right to expect a leisurely lunch with attentive service.

We hosted a terrific birthday party here for 45 on the second floor. In addition to helping to arrange a tailored menu, the staff were welcoming and accommodating to all of our guests. The food, as always, was terrific, with the Octopus and Lavraki especially recognized; our Greek relatives reveled in the authenticity of the flavors. This is a wonderful reliable Greek taverna. We will undoubtedly return.

I’ve come here many times in the past year, every time I come I leave happy. The fried calamari is fresh, the Greek salad is flavorful and Loupe de Mer is my favorite dish (just watch for the bones). This visit I tried their Santorini summer cocktail and it was super yummy!

Met with family at this well located Mediterranean seafood restaurant. Greek style and delicious. Ask which fish is the freshest but go with the ones with sauce and vegetables.

Nice menu and ambiance near Bloomies. Salads are plentiful and the fish is super fresh. I loved the salmon, the arugula salad and the delicious chickpea spread which came with the bread basket. Good value for the money given the location. I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony.

EXCELLENT restaurant and 5 of us had a round table at the window on the corner of 60th Street. It was a lovely night and the sliding window was open. Dinner was Greekish and very good. So was service. We'll be back

We just popped in for lunch and got to find a nice place with some really good food, stuffed Octopus, grilled Octopus, jumboprawns, beef hamburgers, and good selection of wines. Must say, gladly surprised. Much recommend. Just go there.

The menu had a good variety. The anassa chips were great. Portions were huge. Service was good and had a nice atmosphere

I mistakenly assumed Anassa Taverna would be a good brunch place to celebrate Mother’s Day. I should have opted for the McDonald’s nearby, because this place was awful. First, they opened late, leaving a line of customers with reservations, waiting outside in the cold and without apology. Next, after being seated, we waited for over 10 minutes with no attention by a member of the wait staff. Eventually, I flagged someone down and we were able to place our order. I was disappointed, but willing to put these two amateur mistakes behind me. Halfway through our meal my mother found a piece of wax paper in her omelette. Disgusting. Our waiter was apologetic, but the manager could not even bothered to come to our table to address the matter. He was working the room, but even after our waiter brought the issue with our food to his attention, he didn’t seem to care. To me, this seemed unacceptable. If a restaurant makes a mistake, particularly one that involves a food safety issue, they ought to properly acknowledge it and apologize. You can buy brunch at anassa taverna, but you can’t buy class.

We're trying it out for the NYC restaurant week. We chose this restaurant based on their restaurant week Menu. Appetizer: Grilled Calamari - it was fabulous, entrée: Swordfish Kebab - it was excellent and the desert: it was a tart - not too sweet. Overall, we're satisfied with the food. The serving was quite slow though.

The well rated restaurant in the area were all booked and they had a resi for early dinner on a Friday night. It drew a good sized crowd. Overpriced at $31 for lamb kabob with too many carbs on the side. The food was average at best. The bill was $60 for -"a party of one with a house martini and tip. The wait staff were oblivious: they paced down the aisle next to me. One actually stood right in front of me swaying looking out the window at one point. Another leaned against my table almost sitting on it while taking the order of an adjacent group.

The area around Bloomingdale's has always been a vast culinary wasteland. Aside from the super high-end Le Cirque, there really isn't any place solid to have a nice lunch or evening meal after a spree at Bloomie's or after checking out a nearby movie. Anassa has changed all that. It offers fantastic Greek/Mediterranean fare in a lovely atmosphere. You can't go wrong with almost anything on the menu but the fresh fish they offer is a standout, especially the Branzino. Everything here is done simply and without the annoying flourishes you see at most restaurants. Start your meal with the assorted spreads (hummus) and be sure to try their great lamb kebobs. Beyond having a versatile menu, it's also good for any occasion. I have had stuffy business lunches here and fun dinners with friends. It's unpretentious, casual. You can't miss. Btw, the decor is great.

Anassa Tavern is across the street from Bloomingdale's. This is a must lunch after several hours of shopping with my girlfriends. The food is excellent. We always split several appetizers instead of a full meal. The Greek wines are delightful. Service has been good. This time we ordered a trip of dips and fried eggplant and zucchini. A word of caution, don't fill up on the bread and hummus that your server brings to your table! Save room for your lunch or dinner!

Stopped in here after traipsing through midtown all day with a group of friends for a refreshing cocktail. Not enough room at the bar so the hostess accomodated us with a booth nearby and an extra chair. We were quickly served by a busboy some delicious homemade hummus and crusty bread which satisfied our hunger pangs.Waiter appeared and took our cocktail order and appetizer orders ...raw oysters ,the best crabcake ever.. grilled shrimp salad and greek meatballs all well prepared Waiter and all service was friendly and gracious

This was my first time at Anassa Tavern and the experience was excellent. We sat down and immediately got hummas and bread which was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Greek Salad as a lunch entree which had rich red and juicy tomatoes. My friend had the price fixe lunch special of grilled fish which she also enjoyed very much. The special comes with a choice of appetizer and dessert for around $25 - good value. We shared the spreads and were so full that she took the dessert "to go". A nice experience and a great east side find.

I was invited to have dinner, and the atmosphere was great, and the food was even better! Highly recommended when in New York.

Went there for lunch during the week, ordered the spiced lamb kebab, couscous we well prepared, meant was good as well.

Arrived today, first dinner with family, a request for repeat of Anassa! The chips with yoghurt is reason to return.

Great service, fine food but a little too noisy for intimate conversation. try a go early or for lunch Have the martini

My husband is Greek and grew up eating authentic Greek food. We stopped for lunch and had an amazing meal! Service was great! Very vibrant attitude! We enjoyed lunch so much, that we came back for dinner… and again everything we got was fantastic! Not sure why there are any low ratings! Highly recommend if you like good Greek food!!!!

We were a large party and while service and food was generally okay the inferior dinner thot was the Restaurant Week special was inexcusable. Most restaurants go out of their way to give quality and value, here it was beyond second class treatment. Portions were noticeably smaller , the desert embarrassing so. In addition the pita bread accompanying the $21 hummus trio was meager and they charged for another order. They also overcharged for two meager plates of carrots and celery sticks to go with another appetizer. We didnt realize these charges till later when looking at the bill more carefully So beware when ordering and check your bill carefully before you pay..

A very nice atmosphere in the heart of New York City. The service is great , very fast and extremely tasty dishes. They even have daily specials that may tempt you to return to try them all. If you miss the lunch specials which makes it very affordable, the dinner prices are in line with a very good restaurants. You may do reservation because gets busy as the dinner times arrives. A place to visit and return, for sure

Lively, a bit loud, comfortable ambience, great service. Loved the crusty bread with hummus served while waiting for dinner.

The restaurant we were plannning to eat at had a wait and we could not wait so we went to Taverna Anissa. What a pleasenat surprise. The atmosphere is beautiful. It was open air, so we had a nice breeze and could see the street but we were not on the street. the food was delicious and the servicx great. I would definitely go back.

We stopped into Anassa for lunch last week. It was delicious. When the weather is nice, they will open the windows/doors and you can more-or-less dine on the street. The area is very nice/safe. We didn't look at the dinner menu but we might have given in a try had we more time in the city.

Anassa Taverna Such good Greek/Mediterranean food (across the street from Bloomingdales) can be found at Anassa Taverna. We stopped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the menu and $29 price fixed, 3 course lunch (with several great choices). The atmosphere is quite nice, open and airy. The staff is attentive and very pleasant. The food is so good, so fresh, and lunch was such a value. You are served delicious house made humus and artisan bread upon arrival. We opted for the lunch special….Greek salad and three Greek dips as appetizers. All were so well prepared and enjoyed. We then ordered grilled chicken (with Greek fries and roasted tomato) and snapper (with beets) as composed entrees. The entrees were fresh, simply prepared and so very good. The strawberry and coconut sorbets completed the already great meal. Such a delicious value! The location, pleasantly attentive staff, airy atmosphere and fresh fare (that is so well priced) compel us to return soon. Thanks for a lovely lunch, Anassa Taverna!

Wife had the lamb chops. I had the Greek salad and Greek meatballs. Shared a broccoli rabe vegetable side and a baklava with ice cream dessert! EXCELLENT!

Dined here with 3 friends on Friday night - it was a nice, "adult" alternative to the usual St. Patrick's Day madness. I really enjoyed the whole experience - the staff was welcoming, the food was so good, and I LOVE the space. We were supposed to just get two plates/snacks to share because none of us were very hungry. That turned into 4 dishes, bread, and cocktails/wine. We could not resist! We shared the beets, chips, fries, and mezze platter. Loved everything. The dips on the mezze platter were very very good - smoked eggplant, spicy feta, and potato. The chips were my favorite - a stack with alternative slices of eggplant and zucchini perfectly fried, with tatziki. I would go back just for those. The ambiance was wonderful as well - the space was reminiscent of an authentic taverna and even though there was a DJ, the music was unobtrusive and we were still able to hold conversation. Would definitely return.

Just left brunch at Anissa Taverna. The place has a good location and a very pleasant atmosphere. But my "stuffed omelette" was at best so-so. It supposedly had potato, ham, leeks and gruyere cheese inside. Hmmm. I think I found two small bits of ham and a little evidence of gruyere -- but that was it! A single slice of bread and small amount of average potatoes/onions/peppers. Service was also slow and minimal. Would not go again.

On a recent trip to the city, had to make a trip to Dylan's candy shop and decided that Anassa's (across the street from Dylan's) looked like a good place to have a late lunch/early dinner. A bustling vibe, but not overwhelming. We were immediately shown to a table by the window which was nice to people watch. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We were adventurous and tried the octopus appetizer ($23). Tasted like chicken to us and although tender and an ample portion, we wouldn't order it again. My filet of salmon ($30.) was very good and served with a mixture of spinach and olive oil. The fish gyro ($19) recommended by our server was also an ample portion. A tender and tasty piece of fish (haddock??) was mixed with vegs and served on a piece of pita bread. We ordered wine ($12. for a glass of chianti and $14, for a glass of pinot noir) and dessert, 3 scoops of sorbet (flavors of your choosing) and for $7. this was worth every penny - delicious and the perfect ending for our meals. With tip, the bill totaled $180. so definitely not a cheap meal. Then again, this is New York City and most better restaurants in the crowded uptown area are going to run in this range if not higher. We noted people of all ages dining here including families with younger children. It was a very nice atmosphere to rest our weary feet and we're glad we tried it.

The food was u deeming with a poorly constructed salad, a very over salted fish but at least a decent coconut sorbet. The busboys and servers just disappeared after 1 pm with many diners snd it took three times just water. I will not return nor recommend your restaurant. There are plenty of other choices either a better vibe and food. You should be ashamed if your performance.

We loved this restaurant! From the cozy setting, to the very friendly staff, we knew we would enjoy our dinner before we had tasted a bite! The octopus was divine, classic Greek salad was delicious with the perfect tomatoes and feta! Lobster ravioli and a special sea bass gave us a memorable meal!

Take it from a local- DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!! My father took me here for my birthday (in all fairness they did not know this). We were noticing that people who were seated after us were receiving their entrees before we even received our appetizer. After we finished our app, a crab cake which tasted mediocre at best, I told the waiter we were in a rush as we were getting quite hungry and the noise level was becoming intolerable. he brings the food, but brings me the wrong entree. When I brought this to his attention, he became extremely argumentative and insisted what he brought is what I ordered. Clearly, I knew what I had wanted to eat, not him! Only after my dad and I left our untouched plates and told the women at the door how unsatisfied did he "claim responsibility", which was, of course in front of the manager. There are plenty of much better restaurants in the neighborhood. Will never return here again and will tell all my friends, coworkers, and relatives how this place ruined my birthday dinner!

This restaurant serves the best moussaka any of us ever had. We tried to order the braised lamb Friday daily special but it was sold out by 12:30 noon, which sounds like a good endorsement. However, based on our own other orders and looking around at neighboring tables with unfinished dishes, anything that is not Greek is mediocre.

"Oops" I said when I realized that in front of me was a restaurant I had eaten at before, was dissatisfied, and should not have called them to make a reservation. They started me off with a complimentary spread for the bread that I thought was a poor version of hummus. If I had ordered it, I would have sent it back, and requested it be removed from the check. The tender Greek Meatballs (four small ones) had a pleasing flavor but were unreasonably expensive, $17. The Seafood Youvetsi ($33) with Orzo wheat pasta and mixed shellfish had, what I felt was all pre-cooked shellfish, and as a result were unsatisfactory in flavor.

Enjoyed Greek food at this corner spot in UES. Aside from the staff being so very friendly and very helpful, the food excellent. The grilled octopus was tender yet crispy, the lobster spaghetti was a surprise. The Anassa chips are not to be missed. Who would think semolina would make a good dessert?

We happened to chance on this little gem for lunch. The grilled octopus appetiser was hands down the best we have ever had! Lobster ravioli was excellent too. Great service! Loved the whole experience.

Whether it's shopping at Bloomingdale's (not me, thanks!) or seeing a first run film at the newly refurbished and newly expensive Cinema 1-2-3 next door, Anassa Tavern is a great place for any meal, I'm Sure, though lunch has been my only one. As I Cobb Salad Specialist, I give Anassa four and one half stars out of five. They lost a half star because while the ingredients are excellent and well balanced (romaine, blue cheese, grilled zucchini, avocado, crispy bacon, eggs, cucumbers and tomatoes in a fine tarragon sauce, there was just not enough salad. Maybe next time. The Cobb Salad is all I have to go on for a review, but I am fairly certain other selections will not disappoint.

i enjoy the appetizers at this restaurant but their main dishes are just passable. The cheese Saganaki is delicious and so are the Mediterranean spreads. The dips are great which are served complimentary. For the main course, the lamb chops were okay but not the best I tried. The restaurant has 2 floors. prefer the ambiance on the second floor although the first floors is where all the action is.

Restaurant with good food but very rude treatment. I felt almost kicked out of the place when I finished eating. Rude employees. I am not coming back

We had a great time with our friends at Anassa, very nice and polite service, tasty food and we all love greek food. Will be back definetely!

Hard to believe it's been 6 years since my last visit and the food is constantly delicious. Presentation is wonderful and modest, just like Greece. We enjoyed the Saganaki, classic Greek salad, Organic salmon & a side of potatoes. Evey bite was so fresh & enjoyable. Making this my go to for Greek going forward!
Less Than Optimal Managerial Experience
We have dined here before, many times, and I had previously reviewed this place. Always favorable, and never a problem. Until the other evening. My wife and I brought a colleague for dinner. Sat upstairs, nice evening and had some wine and got appetizers and salads. All came and were fine. My colleague and my wife both ordered the fish special - branzino, grilled and deboned. I had the evening special. Just a word of note; we are not stupid and do not think that deboned means devoid of bones. Pin bones are a problem, always, with some fish. However, the fish came and it seemed to have been not touched. Both my wife and friend were constantly picking many small but also many significant sized bones out of their fish. And then, what we feared, our colleague got one in his throat and began coughing and trying to get it out. No luck for over 5 minutes. The waitress showed up to inquire about food; she was very apologetic, and we had her take the fish away, less than a quarter in but just too many bones for the effort. She offered to bring menus and allow them to order again, and offered to take the fish off the bill. After a few more minutes, our friend was fortunately able to cough out a sizable fish bone. Evening saved? Nope. A man showed up, presumably the manager, who began his comments with "I hear you all are complaining about the fish". There was no apology, no comments of any fruitful nature, and we asked him to leave. Instead, we were asked to leave. We did. I'm sorry we didn't get to tip the server; she dealt with the incident appropriately. The manager did not. We won't return.
