Best plant based restaurant

By Pamela C |

We have been here twice now . And vow every time we come to New York , to stop here . Even if you aren’t plant based , this is the best restaurant. Great vibe , great service and amazing food . I can’t wait to come back !

I hadn’t had much success with vegan food on my trip to NYC, so was looking forward to a visit to Anixi and I wasn't disappointed. I was a lone diner and was warmly welcomed by the fabulous Jason upon entry, and then looked after by the manager Jorge. The place was busy and a good vibe! They seated me and I asked for their recommendations and they suggested 3 great options. I had the ’chicken’ kebab and the ‘cheesy‘ grilled bread with runny ‘egg yolk’, followed by a creamy dessert. The food was sublime and the grilled bread dish was out of this world! Jason and Jorge‘s service and attention was exceptional! Despite prices being steep - I will certainly be back to some of the other delightful dishes on the menu.

Highly recommend!

Visiting from the SF Bay Area and dining with a friend. He chose the location when he learned I was vegan. From the moment we entered, the experience was excellent. The restaurant decor is very elegant, the cocktails were insane (get the Aegean Olive!) and the food and service were extraordinary. Definitely will return. Highly recommend whether you are vegan or are vegan or not.

Best food amazing trendy ambience- MUST TRY IT!

By Stacy L |

AMAZING restaurant! Went with a group including many people who had never had plant based food and everyone was amazed by how great it is! The egg flatbread and Chunk steak are absolutely indistinguishable from the taste and feel of those products. The restaurant has very quick service and a super trendy ambience so is a an absolute gem. Highly highly recommend this place for a fun night out with truly exceptional food.

Amazing food

As a coeliac who is intolerant to dairy this was an oasis of food heaven amongst a sea of cakes, pastry and bread that I couldn’t eat. I felt very safe eating here and it was a luxury to not have to compromise. We started with a 3-dip meze and the layered bread. The bread was the best gf bread I have ever tasted. We then had the flat bread “braised beef”. We shared a starter and main and were so full we couldn’t find space for a dessert. The service was good and the food was amazing.

Vegan Mediterranean Meat

By Ashely Fang |

I've never been a huge fan of vegan restaurants that try to make meat substitutes, but I was willing to make an exception as my partner said a few of the other vegan restaurants in City Roots Hospitality Group were quite good. The dips were a perfect way to start the meal - my favorite was the whipped "ricotta" which paired beautifully with the honey even if a bit stiff in texture and my partner's favorite was the spicy kabocha squash. The crispy "lamb" cigars were crunchy but a bit dry on the inside- I wish the lemon stood out a bit more. Sadly, I had the popular grilled chick’n shish kabob and disliked it. Not only was it stringy in texture, it was also dry and trying to add the paired sauce on top did not hydrate the kabob more, only served to highlight how dry it was. It was an effort to swallow what felt like flavorless fine hair down, although the onions inside it were delicious. Perhaps it was a disservice to call this "chicken" and may have primed me to expect something it was never going to be. Although it has good appetizers, I would not come here for entrees. Given the kind of restaurant it is along with the price, there are better vegan restaurants in NYC that will do the same thing but better for the same amount of money.

Words won't do it justice

I've eaten at Willow (loved it) and have had Anixi on my list for quite a while, but have not been able to fit it into my schedule. I live uptown and I don't make it to Chelsea often. Maybe that's a good thing because if I lived any closer, I would spend all of my money there. My guest and I ate at in the bar area, which was quaint and cozy. The service was great with our server answering the many questions I had. The flavors were exceptional. The whipped ricotta alone was worth the trip. I need to figure out how to get back there soon as I haven't stopped thinking about it. Everything we tried was delicious. Definitely going back. If you're visiting NYC, make sure to add this place to your list. You won't regret it.

An innovative veg experience

By alice155 |

Every time we go out for lunch or dinner with our daughter, strictly vegan, of course we choose a place that can meet her needs. Among the various restaurants we visited on this visit to New York (see reviews), we tried this location that stands out for its creativity and presentation of the various courses, many of which imitate, with amazing results, some dishes based on animal proteins. The place is very nice, although a bit noisy; the staff friendly, quick and friendly. In addition to the various “mezze” to share (the three we ordered were delicious), we tried the experience of “khachapuri” (a kind of pizza with a garnish that resembles the white and red of the egg) which we found very good and the “grilled chicken” which instead left us a little puzzled because of the consistency of the vegetable protein that reminded us of chicken, but which, in our opinion, was a little slimy on the palate; the date cake was also good, only that the melted dark chocolate cascade poured over it somewhat canceled out the flavor of the dates. All in all honest prices. Try it as an alternative to the various veg restaurants, at least to understand how with vegetables you can imitate foods based on various meats.

Yum!

A great vegan spot which gorgeous seating and a lot of great options. We had such a hard time picking what we wanted but thankfully we had a family style brunch so we got to try a lot of different items. The frittata was excellent and was probably our favorite dish of the meal. It came with 2 dips (tahini and hummus) and flatbread. We also got 3 other dips - all three of them were flavorful. We got the garlic glazed pull apart bread - WOW. The bread is so good and I highly recommend it. We got the pistachio cheesecake as the dessert. It’s so beautifully plated but also tastes just as good. It felt like a combination of a baklava and cheesecake and I loved the different textures.

Incredible Vegan Food in NYC!

By WhereSheGos |

I was excited to try this place since I love Beyond Sushi, and it is the same owner. Anixi has outstanding vegan food! Sometimes vegan restaurants can be a hit or miss with the food, but Anixi not only hits the mark, but they exceed it! Each dish is flavored so well. We stopped by for a weekend lunch with no reservation and were quickly seated at noon since the lunch crowd hadn't picked up just yet. The restaurant is easy to miss as the signage is subdued and doesn't stand out in any way. Located on a main avenue, you'd expect it to be a small restaurant. Once you walk in you realize how big this place is as you follow the server through the bar/casual dining area to the main dining hall. Beautifully decorated giving a Mediterranean vibe mixing elements of Middle Eastern, Turkish, and Egyptian cultural vignettes. The venue is really beautiful and probably looks even better for dinner service. If you must order one thing on the menu, please get the 'grilled chick'n shish kabob.' This tender tofu is seasoned so well! You'll get two long skewers with this order, which can easily be shared ($28). This can easily be a meal for one person too. We tried the fire roasted eggplant pide ($23). The pide is a Turkish flatbread and we loved the balance of eggplant and pomegranate molasses. Very filling and since they cut it into slices, it is easy to share. Finally, we also tried the kabocha squash dip ($9). When ordered individually, the dips do not come with bread. So, a tip from our waiter was to use the bread from the pide we ordered. Great suggestion because if we ordered a side of their bread, I think we would be stuck with so much bread and a very carb heavy meal. We also saved a little $$ by not ordering more bread. (Shoutout to our server on that rec!) This worked out perfect! For two people, this was very filling. Overall, Anixi is on the higher end price wise for a meal, but all of the menu items were delicious. This is a great place for a date, celebration, or just a nice meal. Beautiful decor, great selection of food variety, all vegan and GF options too, and attentive staff. I hope to be back soon to try other menu items and maybe save room for dessert! I've tried their other restaurants like Willow & Beyond Sushi but this may be my new favorite! The food & decor is insta worthy too!

Outstanding!

Simply one of the best vegan restaurants in the world. Outstanding food and service and a cozy ambiance. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Delightful - Delicious - Delectable!

By DealFinder50 |

Anixi! Vegan delicious dining at it's best! Staff provided excellent service. Joseph was our waithelp and provided us with excellent recommendations. We started with Artichoke Tots! Crispy, tasty pieces of artichokes. Came with two dips and lemon wedges, and the lemon alone was superb. Next appetizer was the Ricotta and spinach borek rolls. Such a beautiful presentation on a wooden board. Very flaky with creamy ricotta and spinach baked inside. For main dishes we ordered Grilled Chick'n Shish Kabob and Olive Za'atar Pizza. The chick'n was tender, seasoned to perfection. The grill on the Chick'n and onions was perfection! The dish tasted and smelled so good! The pizza was oozing with vegan mozzarella and olives. Cocktails were delicious, although a bit expensive. Finally leave room for dessert! The medjool date cake is covered with a delectable, creamy, heavenly chocolate ganache at the table. And the pistachio ice cream was dreamy. Such a delicious meal! Can't wait to return.

An outstanding VEGAN Culinary Adventure

Highly recommend!!!! The VEGAN food was delicious and the food presentation was beautiful. Huge compliments to the chef! We had four ppl in our party and ordered multiple dishes to share. You must eat here!!

By happycamper418 |

We would literally eat here everyday if we lived in this city. No joke. It's that good. Had the most wonderful experience from the outstanding level of service (something I feel is harder to find nowadays!), to the ambiance, to the drinks and food, so full of unique flavors and next level vegan wizardry. Just amazing. This is a vegan scene game changer.

Skip the overpriced underpoured drinks, and also be ready to spend an entire months grocery budget, and you’ll be OK

By Jeff |

Wow! The food is delicious. Wow! The prices were outrageous. Wow! The drinks, @$20 a pop had almost no alcohol. Overall, the drinks were the most disappointing part.

Seriously excellent!

By Hellena |

An amazing restaurant!! The service was excellent and I don’t say that easily. The first place (apart from the Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to) where you get a new waterbottle without having to ask for it. Really attentive and nice server, I just forgot her name unfortunately. The food was great as well. The three mezze dips were really good, the herbal bread was great to go with it and we even ordered extra the za’atar pita, which was good (not great, but I’m spoiled by an amazing Libanese stand owner in The Hague/Netherlands). The rest of the food was also very good. And I had an excellent strawberrie cocktail. The restaurant looks really nice, with great eye for detail. Such as the drinking cups being of the same material and colour as the plates. I love such details. I can really, really recommend coming here!!!

Wonderful vegan restaurant

By Randy4000 |

We came across this gem by chance and were delighted with its incredibly creative vegan cuisine. A great location with very tasteful decor, competent and friendly service and a very varied and extensive menu. The vegetarian in the family was happy with the great selection and the rest of the family also had a wonderful meal. A clear recommendation.

Superb and satisfying Meze with a side of wine

By ISyzigi |

THE most delicious Meze I've ever had, including in Greece! Two of us shared the mushroom kebab (more succulent and flavorful than any meat), the eggplant dip (light and brightened with mint and pomegranate seeds), and the artichoke tots (salty, crunchy, great for dipping). We each had a glass of wine and were completely satisfied, enough to last the evening watching dance nearby.

Enjoyable , great atmosphere.!!

By JKO1111 |

We've been to vegan restaurants all over the world and rate Anixi #1 !! The ambiance is quiet and elegant. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. And the food... wow! Between the chicken kebabs and the beef kibbeh, the carnivores in your group won't know the difference. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. We will be back again and again!!

Great culinary experience 100% vegan

By Allon A |

Outstanding in every way, from the food to service and atmosphere. 100% vegan middle eastern cuisine with some twists, a fun culinary experience. One of the best vegan restaurants in NYC barnone. I highly recommend.

Excellent

By BienZh |

We had a very nice evening here. The reserved table was ready a little after the reserved time, but we had another glass of wine at the bar. The restaurant is beautifully and stylishly decorated. We were greeted and served nicely and the food was excellent - the starter was almost better than the main course. The cigars were great and so was the hummus with the pita bread. The pide was also very good. The price of the food was very fair and so were the prices of the drinks. Absolutely recommended!

A very popular restaurant due to the delicious food

We will definately visit again when we return to New York and so should you if you liek good food.

Higher End Vegan

It's so nice to find a vegan restaurant that feels like a special night out. There are so few of them, and Anixi is one. Beautiful site, excellent food, and a quirky but pleasant waitress.
