Heavenly Veal Parm

By Kevin L |

The Veal Parm was ridiculous ... thin pounded, bone in ! SOOOO GOOOD ! The steak and hot antipasto were also great

Good Italian in the financial district

By Scandicsaint |

Took this restaurant after checking out other reviews on tripadvisor under the old name. Booked a table for 8 online. Bit of delay getting the table as restaurant was busy, but staff were always on hand and explaining situation. Once settled the cheese and salami pickies were excellent and went down a treat. There was no rush and we took our time ordering. Pollo Mt Etna was excellent as was the Swordfish. The pasta dishes were also very good. The tuna was ok, but my wife has had better. We bought a couple bottles of the cheap wine on the list, $45/bottle, and the wine was very good. Atmosphere was good, although a tad noisy, but as i said it was a busy Wednesday evening. Staff were attentive and helpful. Would pay it another visit if in the neighborhood but wouldnt make the effort to travel there, would rather test others.

Dining is a celebration

By gcameron |

ok, if you want a quiet romantic evening this may not be the place. People are laughing and celebrating--the room is very loud but we should be having fun when we eat. After a browse of the wine list, I selected a Barolo. The waiter did his best to sell me on an Amarone, even offering to discount the price. I had to insist on the Barolo to get what I wanted. I suppose some may have been put out but I thought it was fun. Food was well prepared and plentiful. The service was excellent. Everyone took care of you. It was fun to look around the room and see people truly enjoying themselves. This will be a must visit on any trip to New York City.

Really bad ...!

By Katerina H |

The food was nothing special and the service was really poor . They don't even know what's the name of the plate they served us . Don't ask to much about food or what it contains they just " don't know " . From outside looks much better .

Underwhelming

By Zippy1 |

Picked this place for our 10th anniversary dinner when on vacation in NYC. I’d told them this in the note when booking too when they as if it’s for a special occasion. Not that it mattered though because it wasn’t acknowledged or anything. In fact the welcome wasn’t warm at all, just perfunctory upon entering and saying we had a reservation. No “hi, welcome, how are you this evening”. We were seated and immediately a waiter came over and (again without any kind of hello) started rhyming off the specials for the day then left. We ordered drinks and then our food which was nice enough. I wouldn’t rush back and there’s probably - hopefully - much better Italian joints than this in NYC!

Friendly and good taste

By Dario F |

FIrst of all, there are no Italians working there. However, the personnel is very friendly and professional. The cusine is definitely not bad and it reaches the average Italian standard pretty close. After having visited so many bad italian restaurants worldwide, i can tell this is good and with good quality/price ratio. I will get back there again with pleasure.

Authentic and wonderful Italian experience

By Mnkyfarmer |

Great experience - delicious food, great service, wonderful ambiance ! Our server, Giorgio, was very caretaking. He greeted us immediately, and we knew we were in for a super dining experience. The cheese complement was out of this world and as we sipped our drinks, Giorgio made us a “real” Caesar salad table side. We had carbonara and bolognese .. delicious! Highly recommend.

Overpriced

By JShack63 |

What should have been an enjoyable meal with colleagues was a frustrating and disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food was ok, but way overpriced. The waiters were impersonal and inflexible, and tried every trick to overcharge us, splitting wine into separate tickets for extra gratuity. We had to ask 3 or 4 times to get the tickets done correctly. Will not return. Check out the other Stone Street if you're hungry.

Great place to sit outside and catch up on work during breakfast- ask for Besa

By Amanda D |

Had an amazing experience with 2 waitresses that just were delightful. I was hanging there before an apt and they were so on top of everything. And I know my bill was pretty low and they served me like I spent $200. Treat them nice as they are part of your brand!

Best Croissants!

By floflo79 |

The breakfast here is a good breakfast for a small buffet style. The thing I am in LOVE with is their croissants. They are perfection! The best I have had outside of France. Seriously. The St. Regis, The Ritz, Waldorf, W, etc they cannot compete with their croissants. The manager tells me they are the same at all DoubleTree hotels! I might have to check out more DoubleTrees in the future. Seriously........just for croissants.

Very good value hotel restaurant food

By Birtan O |

This restaurant is attached to the Double Tree Hilton Hotel so the prices are hotel prices. However the food is delicious and great portion size as well. One of the best hotel food I’ve ever tasted. Well worth the extra charges. Fantastic food.

Really bad experience

By Gene W |

We live in the neighborhood and used to love coming here for the great food and the maître d' (Georgio) was wonderful. We just dropped by tonight for dinner and not only was it completely empty(we ended up going to Serafina down the street which was packed), the waiter threw us an attitude when we were looking at the menu. We were both dressed professionally (my wife and I are both in corporate finance and just got back from work) so this was disconcerting. I really hate to think our treatment was due to our race (we're Asian and Black). But there really is no other logical explanation. To top it all off, the prices they advertise online were completely different from in-store price point(we just ordered the same items for pick-up a couple months ago). Truly disappointing a formerly good restaurant has gone so far downhill. If they don't improve drastically, they might as well close up shop.

A nice meal on the front patio on a warm evening in October

By pathmandu |

I was staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton in the Financial District and the restaurant was downstairs on the ground floor just below the hotel and I was hungry for a nice Italian meal. The night was warm and clear which is wonderful for mid October so I wanted to sit outside. They have a small patio area out in front of the restaurant that no one was sitting at and upon asking if I could sit out side, the crew started to go to work and brought out a table cloth and place setting immediately as if from out of nowhere. Magic! With regards to the meal I was craving penne pasta with a meat sauce. When I read the menu they had a penne pasta with a spicy red sauce but no meat and feeling carnivorous I wanted some meat. Upon asking the waiter as to my options he stated they had a bolognese sauce if I was interested - I said YES and i was very happy that I did. I also added a side of broccoli rabe and it was yummy. I should also add that the waiter also recommended a glass of cabernet wine to go with the meal that paired very well.

Service?

By Shaqohirt |

We were 4 friends joining Dinner in ancora. Ausking the Waiter which Site the Salad would have je smiled arrogantly and didnt Really say it. Tomato Sauce was made of ketchup!!?? For a 25$ Pasta? Incredible. Expansive bad Food nö Service.

Food was good, service excellent.

By Denise Lanae |

Could not get itemized receipts with meals, and can't be reimbursed by my company without them. I enjoyed my meals and the staff was very good. Better than I imagined for a restaurant on-site at a hotel.

Excellent food and service! What a hidden gem! I had the veal chop so, which was fantastic, my wife had the ravioli, everything was so fresh and tasty. Will definitely be back

Can't beat the Chicken Parm

By begross1 |

Can't seem to bring myself to order anything else after trying this. Too much for one person but I'm not complaining.

Very good Italian food, excellent staff

By dsegleau |

You know how "hotel restaurants" are often pretty mediocre? Not this one. The food is very good, bordering on excellent. The staff is very friendly and attentive. A quiet oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the financial district. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo could have benefited greatly from more spice, but the Tiramisu was fantastic.

14$ for ice cream!??!!

By Ottawasushi |

Here with family after a long flight and staying at the Doubletree. Was having an excellent dinner. Very authentic and initially catered to my 7yo daughter with half order of spaghetti carbonara and raw broccoli. They did not have chocolate ice cream for dessert and suggested vanilla to which she said okay. The bill came. They charged us 14$for the 3 scoops of ice cream because they couldn't find it on the menu!! Charged 6$for the tiramisu and cannoli. Shockingly did not charge for the broccoli!! I think there is one excellent waiter (old school Italian loves kids, very good service) and the other who accounts for the terrible reviews. Too bad because good food. Never going back.

Poor Service, Food Average (Breakfast)

By Hersheyswt |

If I had not been with business colleagues and needed an easy, convenient place to congregate for breakfast, I would have looked for breakfast fare elsewhere. The food quality was average, the buffet rather small, and what I did not enjoy was that they took a very long time to bring out my colleague's breakfast, which elongated our stay. After realizing how much time had past I hopped up and found the manager to let them know that it had been at least 30 minutes since ordering and my friend did not have her breakfast. The manager and the server actually got into a small disagreement and the manager learned that there had been a mistake in the kitchen. My friend's food came out just at that moment, but we ended up receiving the meal free. I appreciated the quick action taken by the manager, but I would not visit there again, though I did enjoy the hotel and would stay at the Doubletree Hotel again..

Old fashion service.

By DVjuka |

The food and service we received in this place is ti remember. Giorgio our server was very professional and you can not say no to his suggestion. Their homemade grappa is exceptionally smooth . We will come back soon .

Amazing Food and Service with reasonable (for NYC) prices

By REKER |

We ate there twice during our stay, Great Food and Service, Only complaint was the size of the portions. Small family owned restaurant. Definitely on my list of NYC eateries

Lovely Ambience!

By TravelLover322 |

My family and I found this place after our busy day visiting the Statue of Liberty. The restaurant is located next door to a Doubletree Hotel, so if you need to use the restroom, you'll have to go up the hotel elevator and head to the second floor. Just FYI. We lucked out and dined here when there was only one other family present. It was about 4pm, which was probably why. Anyway, the burrata is good. However, I'm used to eating it with some type of crostini. The waiter will offer you a bread roll though. My meal was the chicken with red peppers and potatoes. The sauce has a little kick to it, and it was good. The chicken portion was huge, so if you want meat, that's a great choice. However, my daughter chose the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and that was mouth watering. I wish I would've chosen that dish. Overall, the food is good, but not life changing.

Stop in after jersey shore

By Mlsalfelder |

Excellent food, excellent service! Was actually very kid and family friendly. But fancy, too. We had an array of great servers. The owner/manager came out and talked to us. He showed us a picture of one of the actors from the Sopranos who had just stopped and cooked in the kitchen! Neat.

Pleasant evening.

By LEEANNOakdale |

Stopped in last evening for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Loved the gratis apps. We also ordered a salad and baked clams , very good. The pasta was delicious and very fresh. Service was attentive but not over the top. Tony was very accommodating. A nice quiet atmosphere. We will definitely return.

Food Belissimo, Service Monta bella

By Syksey99 |

I dined here with a colleague, and what a treat and a suprise to find this gem in NYC so close to Wall Street. The entrance looks a bit drab, but as you wlak in and down the stairs to the dining area, it opens up in to a quite exquisit dining room. The staff are brillient looking after you from the get go, with excellent wine choices (not trying to rip you off they offered us the cheaper wine as it was the best for my fish) and entree after entree of breads and meats. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, a great atmosphere perfeect service and food that is incredible (if you like veal this place is amazing)

Best gnocchi ever

By Jeannie18 |

We arrived at the DoubleTree late and went next door for dinner. I told the waiter that I could not decide between the gnocchi and the risotto. He said gnocchi was his choice. Yes! It was the best gnocchi I have ever put in my mouth. Thanks for a great meal

Loud and expensive

By molarman26 |

My wife and I went to Ancora for lunch we should have known better when we walked in and all waiters were in tuxes. We stayed and the food was good but the bill for a Caesare salad for two and two appetizer size bowls of soup was $90. The place was loud and busy with Wall St people.

Late lunch

By Sgoes |

We were returning on the Staten Island ferry at 2:15PM and we were starving! I used my phone to find restaurants in the area and found Ancora. I called and they said if we got there before 3 they could serve us. It was a very short walk and when we entered the downstairs dining room we almost walked out. There was no one there excpet the servers. But we were hungry. And are we glad that we stayed! We ordered a Ceaser for two that was prepared tableside. I had the veal marsala and my husband had the ravioli of the day. Service was great. It was also funny because once we had our main coursed, all of the waiters and staff came out of the kitchen with their plates piled with pasta for their lunch at a big round table. They took turns jumping up to refill our glasses or check on us. Yes, it was pricey but this is New York, people! We'd definitely return if we were in the Wall Street area.

Wonderful surprise next to my hotel!

By Gretchen N |

Fabulous! I was stuck in NYC an extra night and selected this restaurant because it was next to my hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by how fantastic I found it to be! Giorgio and the other staff took wonderful care of me. The food was just perfect start to finish. It was my birthday, and I had to spend it alone due to the unexpected flight cancelation. I didn’t tell the staff it was my birthday, but the service and food were so wonderful that it was a special meal nonetheless! I highly recommend choosing this restaurant.

Friendly bar

By konachik |

I stayed at the Doubletree and this restaurant serves as the "in-house" restaurant. The bartender was very friendly. The food was very decent and they give you some free appetizer. Would eat here again.

Food was very good

By nedlak |

Based upon the reviews I read, I thought the food would be great. It was very good, but there are many better Italian restaurants in NYC. One diner felt the Marsala was below average.

Good italian restaurant in new york

Terrible compared to its European counterparts!

By Monicakatharina |

In the past, I have visited the European Antinori restaurants in Florence, Vienna and Zurich - each visit was a delight. So naturally, my expectations were high when I booked the Antinori in New York. I could have coped with something a little less refined, but what I found was miles (!) from the standard of their European counterparts, where every dish is a piece of art. In Europe, you would never be served buffalo mozzarella which is too cold, killing its delicate flavour. There would be no ingredients out of a tin (palm hearts) on your plate. Your minestrone would not be overly salted, and the pasta would be not just ok, but an explosion of flavours and textures in your mouth. You will have guessed, I was not impressed with the food... to make matters worse, service was terrible. We had about 5 different waiters, each clumsier (and ruder) than the next. They would take the olive oil away when we had not yet had the chance to help ourselves. They would pour ice water into your glass still half filled with San Pellegrino. They brought me a Caprese salad, when I had ordered beef carpaccio. Which I accepted - but then got billed with the more expensive carpaccio! And each time, the apologies were clearly not even half-hearted. There were exactly three different songs on the stereo, so by the end of our meal, we had heard them each about 5 times. And last but not least: when I called to book the table, nobody told me we would be seated in the rather ugly breakfast room next door (the restaurant is on the ground floor of the Hilton Double Tree Hotel), and not the main restaurant. The only good thing I can say about this place is that the food was served quickly, and that the main courses were actually hot. That's it.

A great experience; will be back.

By MVPatience |

Some restaurants have the knowledge to be great, but choose not to expend the effort. Some restaurants are willing to put in the effort, but do not quite know how to get there. The two gentlemen who run the front of the house at this restaurant, and whoever is running the kitchen have both the knowledge and the desire to deliver both superb food and an excellent service experience. The service was so good that we wondered whether they had mistaken one of us for a restaurant critic, but we saw other tables being treated similarly. Was it more expensive than many New York restaurants? Yes it was, but we had no quibbles about the value: the value was there and we will be back! Bravo!

Underwhelming

By hdbyrne |

This restaurant is on TripAdvisor under a couple of names, but its current iteration is as Antica. While it's unclear why the name may have changed, the menu and character of the place seem to have largely stayed the same, at least judging by reviews of its past lives. Antica caters mainly to tourists and road warriors staying at the tip of Manhattan. It offers OK service and serviceable food in a quiet atmosphere. The restaurant is small (intimate), adjoining the DoubleTree Hotel. It feels old-world and stale, offering mainly Italian dishes prepared with little imagination. Tables are close to one another, and our dinner featured a diner at the next table who carried on a texting session (complete with audio alerts) for his entire meal, apparently thinking that was perfectly appropriate for the setting. Service is prompt and formal, but lacks warmth and authenticity, making it hard to relax and and feel truly at ease. A typical meal is accompanied by a sprinkling of pomp, and diners should expect to at some point be greeted by a server carrying a giant pepper-mill to garnish their salad, as well as a dessert trolley wheeled out to all tables following the main course. The wine list will also raise a few eyebrows, with a California Chardonnay that retails for $10-20 in big-box stores priced at $70. Antica is in a challenging neighborhood for dining. Surrounded by a vibrant bar scene and nearby high-end venues serving the financial Masters of the Universe, there are definitely better neighborhoods to grab a nice meal. If you're looking for a good dining experience with decent value, you can do better elsewhere.

traditional fine service

By museum-a-day |

We wanted a very small meal, and were worried they wouldn't appreciate us taking up space without spending much, but... they were every gracious. Even with our tiny order of two salads, we still got the (delicious) no-charge bread and amuse guele (roasted peppers, fried zucchini, charcuterie and lumps of hard parmesan).

Feels like Italy.

By NeoDucky |

When we arrived the host greeted us in Italian, and seated us quickly as we had reservations for my girlfriend's early birthday dinner party. We had a party of 10 and the seating arrangement was well accommodated. We got complimentary cold cut, cheese, bread and pickled peppers. Tables, utensils, chair and floors are very clean. The dining area had very nice decor and lot of wine choices. We ordered Prosciutto with honey dew, Calamari, Filet Mignon with arugula and cheese as appetizers. It was very delicious and well portioned. As for entree, we ordered Penne Arrabiata, Bow Tie with salmon, Veal and other dishes I do not recall since my friends enjoyed it. We also had dessert which was very good. Overall great place to dine in for an authentic Italian restaurant. All the staff spoke Italian and English. We felt very welcomed at the restaurant. I would recommend coming here if you are in the area.

Caesar salad prepared tableside!

By Sunray777 |

What an experience! I never had Caesar salad prepared in front of my eyes with such skill - I loved watching the waiter and the salad was a taste experience for itself. The staff are almost a bit too attentive, you need to be prepared to like this if you decide to dine here.

High Quality, Reasonably Priced, Great Food and Service

By RoadWarrior_BOS |

I recently joined several colleagues for dinner at Antica. Although someone might see this is as a hotel restaurant, it is absolutely not. Staying at the Doubletree and then being able to walk directly into this fantastic home style, family owned and operated Italian restaurant is quite an experience. This fantastic Italian restaurant will customize your antipasto and main courses to essentially whatever you want. The service is on the mark, the food preparation and quality are excellent, and the overall atmosphere is quite nice. It is a little out of the way but if you are in the Financial District of NYC for business, I highly recommend Antica Ristorante whether you are a party of one or 10.

Great Veal Saltimbocca

By John P |

The food was excellent. I had a caesar salad, minestrone and Vela Saltimbocca. The wat staff was very helpful and personable.

Excellent Italian Restaurant Downtown!

By Mmmeyers27 |

Went to Ancora for a special birthday lunch for a friend. I was extremely impressed with Ancora. Very good service and authentic Italian food. I am vegeterian and they made me a special Eggplant lasanga which was wonderful! The fried zucchini hot peppers and bread were complimentary and very good. They had wonderful appetizers to chose frpm and also homemad Grappa in different flavors. It is a bit pricey, but it is Wall Street!

Amazing

By NYCRussianCrew |

I've been here multiple times with family. The food and service keeps getting better and better. And the food is on a whole other level and no matter who you are you are always treated like family. Overall this the best restaurant in NYC and a must go.

Stay away, not real Italian and overpriced

By Michael V |

Took my family there while visiting New York. Looks are deceiving (white table clothes, waiter in tux) but I should have known better based on the fact that the restaurant is part of hotel. Chicken was frozen, pasta not tasty, looked like everything purchased frozen/prepackaged, chicken was cut "round"? Never seen that before. We've had better food elsewhere at half the pricing. Not sure about the 5 star reviews, fabricated (?) or have not really experienced Italian cuisine. Note- Tip is automatically added to bill (see small print at bottom of menu) but removed by manager after complaining. But he did nothing for the water charges, 3 large bottles of Panna at $9/bottle, really?!?!? $27 for 3 bottles of Panna. Not priced out on menu. Be careful, ask pricing of everything including specials, or you will overpay. We will NEVER return. $150 for lunch? So sad.

A wonderful surprise

By Mary Jane P |

We got in to the Doubletree Hotel late after a long day of travel, so olted for the Antica for dinner, just because it was right on the ground floor of the hotel. What a wonderful classic Italian restaurant! I would have crossed the city to eat here! Lovely complimentary antipasto, of thin-sliced supersata with parmagiana romano and terrific grilled mushrooms. I chose chicken with artichokes and mushrooms in a sauce that was out of this world good. Fettuccini Sorrentino, soups and caesar salad also great. Way beyond typical American Italian dining, it felt like we were dining in Rome. We may go there again during our stay, just to be able to try other menu choices. Very impressive. And very reasonable prices. Staff were all helpful and added too our experience.

A surprise gem!

By Jean L |

Staying at the Doubletree to be near the 9/11 Museum was our goal. The Antica ristorante adjacent was the best choice we made to eat...the staff and food could not have been better!!!

A Wonderful Experience!

By CandisCW |

I was in New York with my FEMA team after Hurricane Sandy (Nov/Dec 2012) and we went into the city after a long day of work (still in work clothes, jeans, etc) to find something to eat. Lower Manhattan was still running off of generators and mostly dark. We wandered around trying to find an open restaurant and we went down one street where Ancora's was. As we were looking at the menu and wondering if we should go in the way we were, a group of gentlemen came out dressed in fine suits and tuxedos. We were invited in by a well dressed man who turned out to be the owner (and one of the men leaving recommended it as the best Italian restaurant in Manhattan) and led downstairs to a candle lit room and wonderful ambiance. The waiters were impeccably dressed and very attentive. The food was amazing and as it one of our team members birthday, he got a free dessert. The hospitality by this wonderfully typical Italian was above and beyond. We were treated like royalty despite the fact we were not dressed for such surroundings. We ended coming back before we left for my birthday as he promised me (the "princesa" as he referred to me) that he would have a treat for me. I regret I do not remember his name but both visits left a wonderful impression on me. And I went shopping so I could dress the second time around! Grazie amico mio. Note: The "when did you visit" option won't let me go back as far so I just put for a year later.

Amazing pasta!!

By beachgirl1207 |

Wow this place was good!! We stopped on the way home from 9/11 M&M and so glad we did. I little more upscale than I though (we were seated in the back room in a corner since we were casually dressed) but no matter, we had a great time. The staff is VERY attentive. We had several pre-main course items delivered (instead of just the usual bread) which was a nice added touch. They brought DELICIOUS lightly fried zucchini, bread, salami & chunks of Parmesan AND delicious peppers (not hot!). Our pasta was TOO DIE FOR. Both my teen sons said it was the best they had ever had (one had Penne Arrabbiata and the other the Fettuccine Alla Sorentina). I had the Pesto Gnocchi and it was incredible!! My mom had the Pollo Martini and it was equally delish. Our waiter also brought complementary roasted potatoes and they were so yummy!! I think the TripAdvisor dollars should be 3 instead of 2 just so people know not to come in super casual (like we did - oops!!) but the atmosphere, attentive staff and yum courtesy antipasti made the entrees more than worth the prices (which aren’t bad AT ALL). If you are in the FiDi district craving some great Italian, we definitely recommend this place!!

Quiet but reasonable

By James W |

This little Italian restaurant is on the ground floor of the DoubleTree hotel. It's small and dark but reasonably pleasant. The staff were not busy but the food was tasty and the wine very nice.

Run-of-the-mill hotel restaurant

By matthiashess |

I'd been wanting to try Ancora as I understood it to be a long-time downtown establishment which moved to the hotel across the street after Hurricane Sandy. Unfortunately the food was just as bad as one would expect from a Doubletree hotel. Wilted salad with commercial dressing, bland pasta with "pomodorini" (but only a shred of tomato), overcooked fish with an unripe tomato slice and none of the accompanying vegetables described--and this is just the food. The waiter treated us like we were completely ignorant (perhaps he thought we were tourists) and spent ten minutes describing "specials" that just turned out to be the menu. (We had to ask for a menu, ask to place our order, and ask where the food was--it was 45 minutes before we saw a salad, and this was lunchtime! There are so many staff but it's not clear what any of them are doing.) When the waiter asked (or rather told us) whether we liked the food we could not lie, at which point the owner came out and offered us more food, free wine, dessert and coffee. For this I add one star to the service, but I will never return!

One of the best in Downtown New York City

By FabGlobetrotter03 |

Ancora Ristorante was probably the first fine dining restaurant I ate at in Downtown NYC years ago. Since then, I have eaten many long business lunches here. In my opinion, it has that old school Italian charm, with great service. I always like to listen to my waiter spill this long list of specials for the day and wonder how in the world he could remember all of that. I like the atmosphere and décor of the restaurant. On most work days, it is packed with patrons for lunch, so do make reservations. I bet many important deals have been brokered here. Recently, it moved to the first floor of the Double Tree hotel from across the street. The portions are large, the dishes are delicious but they are not cheap. I have tried many dishes here but my staple favorites are the free starters of fried eggplant and cheese, the prosciutto and honey dew melon for appetizer, and the Veal Scaloppini. No matter what, I always like to see the waiter roll over the dessert cart so we can pick from their varied selections for that day. I have always had a good experience at Ancora and would recommend it to anyone in NYC.

Excellent start to a weekend vacation

By Laelana |

I'm staying at the Doubletree and threatening weather kept me close to the hotel. The wait staff is absolutely top notch. I felt a bit odd being the only solo traveler there, but the staff truly went above and beyond to ensure I was just as content as the large parties. The staff alone warrants 5 stars. But the food!! The food was to die for. I requested a dinner portion of the lobster bisque they had as the soup special. It was the best I have had in my life, with chunks of lobster the size of my thumb! And a canoli and grappa for dessert. I haven't been able to get a canoli for the past 3 years, and that one made it worth the wait!! Finally, for the quality of service and food, they could charge a whole lot more than they do. It was surprisingly inexpensive for a white glove meal.

Very good food and very good service, good wine and atmosphere. I recommend that place to spend a nice and quite moment.

Terrible Service

By KrisKM |

I came here for dinner as I am staying in the hotel. Since I was alone, I decided to eat at the bar. There was a glass of wine at one seat, so I was going to sit in the other seat, that was when the bartender/server told me that it was his wine. I asked for a wine list and instead of being provided one, I was told there was one red wine by the glass and two whites. I went with the red and discovered later that there was more than one, he just told me about the most expensive one. Throughout the meal, the server/bartender was incredibly rude and he was not the only one drinking, which I found very odd and unprofessional. The other employees would come up to talk to him, near me and talk about the money they were making or if people were bad tippers. There were many more problems with the service and his attitude, but there are too many to list. At the end of the meal I asked for my wine to be put on a separate check since I was there for business and he refused and told me that I should have asked him to open two checks at the beginning of my meal. I have never had an issue at any other hotel or restaurant in the past, and if this is an issue for this restaurant, that is okay, but the attitude in which the answer was delivered was condescending and off putting. I will be in the hotel for the rest of the week; however, I will not be eating here again.

A Buried Treasure

By Joseph D |

Decided to take my staff out for lunch and was looking for a place close. I've passed Antica a few times, but always stayed away because of its location which is on a little street on the ground floor of a Doubletree Hotel. But we have it a try and it was excellent. We were seated and immediately brought some plates of dry sausage and provolone cheese, friend zucchini and whole roasted hot Italian peppers. All of which were excellent. The gnocchi with filet mignon in a light creamy sauce was outstanding as was the pounded veal chop. The only issue is it's a very small place, so I think we lucked out getting a table of 7 without a reservation. If you're planning on going I would make a reservation.

Hidden but very good

By flavale |

Went there every morning for breakfast. Didn't have opportunity to have dinner there. Breakfast is very good. Generous portions and very friendly staff. I could share my American breakfast with my son and still be very full. It's worth it if you're staying around the financial district.

Not italian restaurant

By Andrea R |

I'm Italian and this place has nothing got to do with an Italian restaurant. Firstly is not ran by italians and dishes are not real Italian ones Secondly prices in the menu are higher than what is shown outside Thirdly they include 18% of tip in your bill Strongly recommended to stay away from this place

Very good attention, tasty dinner. Went with wife and 2 children. Good selection of wine and desserts too.

The hotel was close to Battery Park to go to the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and a train away from Central Park and Central Square.

Incredible

By Ann G |

This old-fashioned Italian restaurant is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that make you feel right at home. The food is exceptional — every dish tastes like it came straight from Italy. The special Black Squid Ink Linguini with Lobster and New Zealand Mussels was beyond incredible — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the seafood tasted unbelievably fresh. Every bite was a reminder of true Italian craftsmanship. The service was equally outstanding — attentive, friendly, and professional. A truly memorable dining experience worth repeating often!

Nice place, a little bit costly

By myk-qwerty |

My wife and I had a dinner after a long and exhausting journey. We enjoyed relaxing "homy" environment, clean and crispy tablecloth, good quality tableware, etc. We were not in a hurry, listened bel canto, had good wine and tasty food. Even the bill came a little bit high, it did not spoil our positive impression.

Nice place

By Albina Y |

Nice place. The food is not really Italian. Minestrone soup was unusual, a lot of spinach. Spaghetti carbonara were not bad, but with green peas. In general, an amateur. Good service, brought a variety of snacks as a compliment.

Unequivocally Great

By sahdin |

A colleague, a member of our top brass and I decided to lunch at Antinori. We were seated by the owner who, after offering us a table, came back and reeled of a list of specials with panache, far too many for us to keep track of. All I remembered was something with clams and steaks. Anyway, after speaking about the choices amongst ourselves, when he came back to take our order and saw us dithering he suggested that we have a seafood starter with a bit of everything and steak and veal as our main course. Of course, the bread arrived and was good. What I particularly liked was the fact that unlike most restaurants they had butter knives, which to me epitomizes a great restaurant. Some miscellaneous accompaniments for drinks arrived and were good. They changed our forks and knives after we had had these starters. (I, particularly, hate it when servers put the used forks and knives down on the tablecloth). Then the main seafood starter arrived. There were two clams, each in a different sauce, a giant shrimp in it's own sauce and a calamari. I wish I had taken a photograph because the plate presentation was exquisite. Each item on the starter had been cooked perfectly and was excellent. I thought that I should have made it my main course too. Just as well I didn't. Then they changed our forks and knives again! The veal and a giant T-Bone arrived. The veal was good and might have been great on it's own. However, it paled in comparison to the T-Bone which was fantastic. The server put the T-Bone plate facing away from us and the owner came and corrected the positioning. He proceeded to serve us from the main plate. The steak was cooked to perfection and easily ranked amongst the best steaks I have eaten. Nobody had space for dessert but we decided to have some coffee. By this time the table cloth had lost it's initial pristine look despite the fact that the server had continued to pick up crumbs and debris created during our meal. Rather than letting us drink our coffee on the now grungy tablecloth, they brought a fresh one, rolled it up and then unrolled it onto the old tablecloth making the table look great again! Everything was done with great style and panache and the food was wonderful. Do I plan on going back? Definitely. In fact, I plan to take my family there for my son's birthday next month. Do I recommend this restaurant? Absolutely!

Great Authentic Italian Dinner!

This was a great reminder of the time we spent in Italy. The different courses, the atmosphere, and the staff, all were wonderful.

Terrific Daily specials-Lobster bisque and Lobster Ravioli

By Robin S |

This was my first visit and Antica exceeded my expectations! The food was amazing! I had the soup of the day-Lobster Bisque and one of the daily specials-Lobster Ravioli-both were very fresh and tasty-rich in flavor with lots of lobster meat! The staff was buzzing around-very attentive to every need! One issue-iced tea served in a cocktail glass at $4.50 per glass (no free refills here) was a bit over priced!

Fantastic service, great wine, great food, huge pepper grinder!

By heather j |

The server, the wine and the huge pepper grinder are the things I’ll remember the most. What a great find this restaurant was! Atmosphere was nice — we had a fairly private table seated near where they store the humongous pepper grinder. The server was fantastic. They actually had run out of the wine I ordered for the table off the menu, so the server apologized and offered us a comparable (and perhaps more delicious) but more expensive bottle for the price of the less expensive bottle - very classy; and now we’re fans of a different variety of Italian wine. Food and wine were great. Prices were moderate — way less than we had spent eating at the restaurant in our hotel the evening prior. I’d like to return to this restaurant on a future trip to NY.

Excellent food and service

By iove2travel55 |

Read the reviews and decided to have dinner here. Not at all disappointed. While reading the menu we were given 3 plates of complimentary appetizers. Thin sliced roasted zucchini , salami, Parmesan cheese chunks and roasted peppers. All were delicious - warning though- the peppers are hot. The Farfelle pasta with salmon was delicious as was the cavatelle with vegetables. We did desserts instead of appetizers since we had the complimentary ones. Chocolate mousse , chocolate soufflé and cheesecake were all very good. Prices on the entrees were very reasonable with pastas in the teens to low 20s. Chicken dishes also low to mid 20s. Desserts a little pricy at 10 each. Overall a wonderful place for a meal

Great service excellent food

By Richard R |

Myself and two colleagues went here (almost pulled in by the owner) as we were staying across the street. We did not regret it all and loved the plates of cheese and salami, zuchini an peppars brought as appertizers. Starters and mains were also really good. The grappa trolley looked very appealing as well as the desserts but were already full. There was a really good atmosphere and the staff were professional and attentive.

Amazing!!

By Charlotte A |

The staff are incredibly good and the food is incredible. Big serving and great food for the price! This place deserves a full restaurant, not empty tables! Would recommend to any Pasta/Italian lover. The best Penne ever.

Good but not outstanding

By Vemoss |

We heard that this restaurant was the "BEST" in the Financial District, and better than many in Little Italy, so we went for dinner. While the wait staff was amazing, the food was mediocre at worst, and good in some instances. At the suggestion of the wait staff, we ordered appetizers of crab, calamari and scallops. They arranges them, one each, on all four of our plates. I did not anticipate this as some in our party do not enjoy seafood. Regardless, the crab was delicious. The scallop was fine, but the calamari was tough and three of four of us left it. I think the fourth ate it to be polite. Dinner was likewise, good but underwhelmning. The linguine was your standard fare, a pesto polenta was good, and the mushroom risoto also was fine. All good, but nothing was great. Deserts of tiramasu, key lime pie and chocolate mouse may have been the best part of the meal. Will not go again. Just too many fantastic restaurants in NYC to eat here again.

A good choice

By PenelopeScriv |

We came here for lunch after taking the ferry to and from Staten Island and before spending the afternoon at the Museum of the American Indians. We were given a very cramped table but were made very welcome and felt it was a civilised retreat from the busyness and queues outside. The freebies we were given before the meal were delicious. It wasn't cheap but the food was good, the wine excellent, and when you're in a hot tourist spot you feel lucky to find somewhere decent and peaceful. This was.

Old fashioned Italian. Some good, some bad. Taste specific

By GreeneChicago |

The bartender was really really bad. When I asked for a wine list for wines by the glass, she just said what do you want red or white. I said red she says she has Chianti, cab, but could not tell me what brands. Cabernet is from Napa. Wow.. Lots of wines come from Napa. Didn't want her to ruin my dinner, so I told her to pick. Good think our table was ready in 5 minutes since she was in a crabby mood and I didn't need that. But our server for dinner was great. It started with some free appetizers. But then since we ordered other appetizers, the bus boy cleared the free appetizers before I got to taste them all. My colleague said the peppers and fried veggies was pretty good. I ordered linguine with clam sauce. My co-worker asked for carbonara, which was not on the menu but they made it for him anyways. Both were OK. Not exceptional. This had an old world Italian restaurant feel. Some of the service was great. Some not. But we were not disappointed but we were not wowed either.

Still wonderful

By JJONyc |

After moving across the street into the Doubleday Ancora has not lost its charm ,commitment to service and great food. Complimentary small appetizer always nice and had the veal which was outstanding.

Overpriced

By Johanne R |

I don't understand why this place has so many good reviews. Except for the pasta, all the main dishes seem overpriced to me. The menu online doesn't match the one they have, which is more expensive. The beef and the fish were cooked nicely, but the sides were a joke. We got only 4 small potatoes for two people, and other sides were extra. $11 for 5 asparagus? Come on. They also did some pointless things like filling up our water every 5 minutes and cooking an already cooked fish over again in the dining room, on a plate directly over gas. Why? Seems strange and would probably only dry out the fish. Spend your money elsewhere.

Great Italian restaurant in finanacial district

By Frances K |

Excellent Italian Restaurant! We were in the neighborhood to drop my son off to college and needed a quiet restaurant that isn’t so loud so that you can’t have a conversation. This place was perfect. The atmosphere was intimate and yet still elegant but never gave you a feeling of pretentiousness. The service was on point and extremely attentive. We ordered fried calamari and baked clams to start. Both were so tasty. Calamari perfect combination of breading and calamari, lightly seasoned. For entrees we ordered the chicken parmesan, cavatelli primavera, risotto al funghi and fettuccine alla sorentima amd fresh steamed vegetables. Believe all the other reviews because chicken Parmesan is the bomb! And it is a big serving as well. It could be pounded thinner but otherwise perfect. Cavatelli was homemade and you can definitely tell. The sauce was plain but so flavorful, perfect as well. Risotto was cooked just right. The food absolutely delicious! Service outstanding! We will be back.

UNFRIENDLY STAFF AND MISLEADING MENU INFORMATION

By Kags7 |

I went to this restaurant for lunch recently with my husband and daughter (who arrived about 15 mins later than myself). Upon walking in and explaining that I wanted a table for 3 but that the other 2 guests would be arriving later, I was greeted not with a smile but with a sneer! I was seated with a dismissive wave of the hand and eventually offered a drink while I was waiting, but it took a while. When my husband and daughter did arrive, it took a long while to be served or offered menus. A waiter brought a basket of bread, but when I asked if they had gluten-free bread (as I am coeliac), I was just given a shrug and the waiter walked off. The menu we were given was only the a la carte. I asked for the fixed price menu which had been displayed outside (see photo), only to be told that this was a mistake and it was not available. When I said that it should be offered as it had been advertised outside, the waiter refused (it was still on display outside when we left the restaurant, so if it had been a mistake to display it, surely it should have been removed?) We felt inclined to leave the restaurant at that stage, but felt awkward as we had already been given bread and water, so stayed. The food was unremarkable - very bland. The service was unfriendly and we weren't made to feel welcome, so I would definitely not recommend going here.

Gross

By Geminican |

It's a small size sit-down Italian restaurant. The main entre was prepared nicely. Though the breads were hard, felt less fresh. The service varied. There were four waiters, one to sit and took the order. The other handed out the bread. There was another one just checking in and did nothing. And the final one was the manager. The one who actually provided the service was a guy with very limited English. And felt as if he's got some attitude problem which the other waiter had to address. A small fly and a mosquito flying around, I caught the mosquito with my own clean Kleenex. When the waiter with very limited English came, I showed him, "There was a mosquito, and I killed it." Its body was laid on the tablecloth. The next thing he did was shocking to me, he picked up the silver reusable knife and picked up the dead mosquito. I said that's gross. He said it's ok, I will wash it. If it's a disposal knife, or tissue paper or tablecloth, it would be ok. but using a reusable silverware like knife to pick it up is unacceptable. No matter how they clean it, this knife will be used by future guests and that poses health risks. I shared this with the manager, they took care of the bill and promised they would address it. I would not feel comfortable recommending this restaurant to anyone after seeing how they took care of this.

Acceptable but would not return

By lillsmi02 |

This restaurant offers reasonably good food. Average service, somewhat rushed and noisy environment. This is not the place that I would want to return to.

Thank you Steve, Mario and entire team for an incredible eve. Steve you put a smile on all our faces with your "italian" accent and such warmth from the minute we walked through the door until we walked out! My daughters were so impressed at the service and the care you all demonstrated! We will never forget the "cara and principessa" words of endearment. You all made our celebration unforgettable. Excellelent service, incredible food, atmosphere that suits the mood perfectly! Elio... thank you for the coffee cup :) LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Really bad ...!

By Katerina H |

The food was nothing special and the service was really poor . They don't even know what's the name of the plate they served us . Don't ask to much about food or what it contains they just " don't know " . From outside looks much better .

Favorite place to eat in the FiDI

By Emg5360 |

I interned and lived down in the FiDi for the summer and stumbled upon this place. I was very happy I did! After the first time enjoying my experience here with my family I proceeded to return several times throughout the summer. The staff is friendly and the food is fantastic! They serve the most delicious starters (for free) and their entrees are delicious! I highly recommend this place to any and everyone!

Great pasta fajole

By 69amaliab |

We ate here several times when we stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel upstairs. It has a nice atmosphere and a very good wait staff and the food is wonderful. We loved the complimentary appetizers that included roasted peppers, thinly sliced roasted zucchini, salami and chunks of Parmesan cheese. The pasta fajole was delicious as were several of the pasta and chicken dishes. The maitre'd is a very entertaining guy whose favorite saying is, "you better believe it!" If you're in this neck of the city Antica Ristorante is definitely a good take.

Great for groups!

By Jaeckelgret |

We just enjoyed another delicious dinner at Antica Ristorante. As a meeting planner, I have booked this restaurant many times for corporate groups and always had a positive experience. Giorgio, the manager, customized a 4-course menu that offered lots of choices and his service staff was attentive and professional. I will definitely continue to bring groups to this gem of a restaurant in the Financial District.

GREAT Food and Great Service

By altonite |

This restaurant is tucked alongside the doubletree hotel on a small block filled with contruction. When we sat down, we were immediately brought a tray of fried zuccini which as tender and a little spicy, as well as a plate with parmesan cheese and italian salami. The food came out hot and in timely fashion. My veal saltimbaca was tender and with a hint of rosemary. My wife's chicken marsala was wonderful and had lots of big pieces of mushrooms. The wait staff was very attentive and they also had a good wine selection.

Romantic find in CBD

By Gary P |

This place was so cool. I had the daily special a cheese ravioli. My wife had mussels. The service was top notch. No rush just enjoy life. The white table cloths and dim lights made for a romantic meal. The restaurant is small and intimate. There is a great wine list and numerous beers. We did not have reservations and were able to be seated quickly. This was a Saturday early evening. I would make reservations next time just to be sure. All four us were very pleased with our meal. Two in party are discerning about their Italian food, there step mother is a wonderful Italian cook.

An Out of Way Moderately Priced Italian Restaurant in Financial District

By Aragon2627 |

If you judge restaurants by their location and outside looks, you would never try this wonderful eatery. They are adjacent to a small Doubletree hotel and though it looks like a restaurant for the guests, it is actually its own place that happens to share the footprint. The food was good northern Italian fare, moderately priced (by NYC standards) with incredible attention by the staff. we felt we were in a 5 star restaurant and not a small out of the way tavern. The restaurant is within walking distance of the NYSE, Trinity Church (National Treasure Movie Location) and other financial district areas of interest.

To be avoided

By Chiremos |

We chose this place because we were nearby and had read Italian cuisine and good food. All staff as well as the director are NOT Italian. The place is elegant, but really dated and outdated. Staff incorrect, indeed dishonest beyond all means. When you ask a question, they pretend not to hear you or understand even though we asked in English, Italian, Spanish as the waiters are South American. Reading some reviews by chance, I saw that the prices of the ceasar salad did not correspond to what was displayed outside nor on the menu at the table. They tried to fool us by saying that if you add chicken the cost doubles and you pay little only if you make delivery. It's all fake because he tried to rip off customers. The food is good, but they're clever cheats. When I remarked on the wrong prices and when I got up to leave, then the manager said I would pay what it says on the menu and no more. Anger at their dishonesty towards customers. They're bound to close if they keep doing this. Don't go if you don't want to get screwed.

Very Nice

By Robert L |

There isn't great curb appeal, as I walked past this place a dozen times before having someone else book a work dinner here, but the food was very nice and the staff was very friendly. They also have a pepper grinder that is four feet tall, which is good for picture taking.

Great Restaurant

By Pamela T |

Eleven co-workers had dinner at Antica Ristorante for a colleague who was retiring. It was such a special night. The food was amazing and the staff so attentive. I worked with the manager a few weeks before the event to set the menu and plan the event. The manager was so friendly and easy to work with and he and the staff put so much energy into making sure that we had a good time. I also thought that it was such a good value for the quality of the food. We are already talking about when can we return.

What a great restaurant in NYC. From the beginning to end the service was perfect and the food outstanding. We had a surprise party for my wife and they treated 20 of us like kings and queens. Waiters in tuxedos and owners always there. A true treasure.

authentic Italian food

Treated to a business lunch here by a client--I can only imagine the bill was high. But the food was superb, including an authentic offering of antipasti such as grilled vegetables, and an excellent truffle-oiled pasta entree.

Incredible Service

By 3boyz3Madison |

Stayed in the hotel and went in for a quick dinner as I didn't want to incur the room service charges given the prices were already quite high. The bartender seated me at the bar as requested, and she provided awesome service. She was reserved but funny at the same time. The food was very good, although I only had a salad and soup. Wine was pricey at $12.00 per glass, but this is par for the course in this area. A 'regular' came in and sat next to me, he seemed to be friends with the owner. The staff gave both of us a set of appetizers on the house. I had the feeling they do this for the regular - it was nice of them to include me. The regular's scallops and later chicken dinner both looked amazing. Very quaint. Servers take their job very seriously. Really like this place.

One of Best Italian Meals in the City

By joepulitzer |

I was downtown in the Financial District, and decided to look for a place to have a late lunch. I checked some reviews and ratings, and saw this restaurant was the number one rated in the area. We decided to try it and were quite surprised that it actually surpassed our expectation. Our meal started with a complimentary antipasto our waiter brought to us while we waited for our fried Calamari. The antipasto was excellent. The fried Calamari was perfectly cooked. Not to a crisp like most restaurants, but fried just enough so you can enjoy the calamari itself which was quite tender. We both chose chicken entrees and were very happy with them. Both were outstanding. Our meal finished with tiramisu which continued the trend of excellent plates at this restaurant. At the end of the meal, our waiter provided us with complimentary home made liquor drinks that the restaurant had. They also were excellent, although they had a little kick to them. We definitely will return. Some advice to out of towners, avoid Little Italy for Italian food unless you want the tourist experience and not fine dining. The best restaurants left there twenty years ago and you now can find the best Italian restaurants in various parts of NYC. Little Italy is low priced food for tourists and you will not get fine dining there. One word of caution--we parked in the garage across the street and for about 1-2 hours of parking it was $38 (on a weekend). Parking is always expensive in NYC, but you can probably do better if you don't mind walking a few blocks.

Good, Quality and Affordable Meal

By Christopher W |

This place was all over the board but I ultimately settled on a rating of 4 for the food. First, I was dined here while on a business trip as we were staying in the Doubletree Financial District (see my review on TripAdvisor). I went there with a co-worker and got a table for two. The place is small, very simply elegant and surprisingly affordable (around $20 - $24 for an entrée) for NYC. We were in NYC with other colleagues and didn't expect them to join us due to their work schedule. Lo and behold, after about 15 minutes my boss shows up. The staff were very, very accommodating in moving us to a larger table despite the place being a small. Then our other colleague showed up and again, they sat him with us without issue. From there on, the service was a little bumpy. Not really attentive and with an almost annoyed attitude, but not really blatant annoyance. Bread was brought to the table by a server and you chose what type you wanted. You could choose sliced Italian bread, regular/wheat rolls and couple of other things that I really didn't pay attention too. I was a bit disappointed when I asked for a wine list and the waiter said "glass or bottle". When I said glass he said "merlot, chianti, cabernet or tempernillo." Period. No choice of producer and only 4 choices of wine by the glass. Now to the food. First I ordered a chianti which was ok. I took the Italian bread and it tasted a bit stale. You expect it to be crusty but the entire texture was crusty as if it had been exposed to the air too long. The plain roll I got next was better. I was also disappointed to discover that the menu did not have pasta puttanesca. The reason I was disappointed, and the reason I went there in the first place, was because the menu posted outside listed pasta puttanesca. I guess it's an old menu but they didn't seem to concerned with that. The great thing was the waiter didn't hesitate to tell me the chef would make it for me. Granted puttanesca doesn't really contain ingredients you would not expect to find in most Italian restaurants, but I was impressed at desire to please me. I also ordered the lobster bisque. Both were very good. The bisque was one of the best I have had - creamy, slight hint of sherry, excellent lobster flavor and an adequate amount of lobster. The puttanesca was also delicious. It was a bit lacking in the anchovy and red pepper bite but still very good. I don't remember what my colleagues ordered but two of them had eaten there the night before and they both said they enjoyed both of their meals. I had to get to work so couldn't sample any desserts or coffee. Bottom line, I would go back here again and highly recommend it. Despite very accommodating service, I can see where others may be turned off by the slightly surly/annoyed attitude if it was worse than ours. The food on the other hand, may just make it worth it for you.

I was in NYC on business last week. I had not been there since the great Host Tony Fantastica past away. I missed seeing Tony there, but Ancora was still a great expierience. The food and service were still fantastic! They are moving across the street after this week. I beleive they will overcome the changes, and continue to provide a great expireience. I appreaciate Ancora as one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I thank them for the past, and look foward to seeing them at their new space.

Great Dining Experience

By DK1LongIsland_NY |

I took my daughter to dinner at Antica Ristorante last night and it was really nice. I loved the atmosphere, music, staff and food! First they brought us bread and put out a few antipasto sort of tasty foods. I didn't love them. The zucchini was too spicy for my pallet, I didn't love the Italian pepper either. (I just want to clarify that I'm not one who likes spicy foods--no hot sauce for me.) The dinner, however was phenomenal! I had salmon--delicious! My daughter had the special, Branzino--fabulous! Drinks were great. Generous poor. (I hate short pour!). The service was 2nd to none! A special thanks goes to our waitor Giorgio. Polite, professional, and accommodating. Following our meal we were treated with an after-dinner licquor and the staff again were "Johnny on the Spot" attentive. Everyone there was great including Stefano, Geni, Edi, Tio and Anselmi. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent

By Amy B |

Great service, great food. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but great inside. Starts with bread, fried zucchini, hot peppers - complimentary. Dinner is reasonably priced (for NYC), and great food. Complimentary grappa at the end of the meal. Lots of "locals"... lots of NY accents (so fun to listen to!), seems to be lots of repeat customers. On our 2nd visit, we were recognized immediately! Our first visit, it was quiet. 2nd visit was busier, and still great.

Mediocre At Best

By Robert M |

Not so sure why this place has such high ratings. The service was definitely very good but the food nothing spectacular. Went for a business lunch, the restaurant was pretty empty. It was meal that I could have skipped, nothing outstanding that made me want to rush back. I personally feel that there are many better restaurants and better choices in NYC.

Poor Service and very average cuisine

By Lou C |

The place seemed friendly and the menu offers a wide choice of dishes. The room was empty, although we arrived in the second half of the evening. The kitchen is really nothing exceptional but the big problem lies in the Service which was disastrous. Welcoming was cold and made us uncomfortable despite our reservation, the waiter seemed not to be in control of himself and the manager of the room tried to change by not forgetting to fill our glasses with water (3 bottles charged while we did not ask to be served again). I really regret this experience, which came back to us at $45/person including only one dish each and water. I sincerely hope that this was an exception, if not: to avoid.

Went on a business dinner and had a very good time. Everyone enjoyed thier choices. Two people had the lobster bisque and said it was the best they have had. Pasta and fish were very good as well. The chocolate mousse was delicious. We were all stuffed. I would eat there again. Service was very attentive without being intrusive.

Traditional Italian restaurant

By helderrod |

Antica is a high-end traditional Italian restaurant that is located on the ground floor of Hilton DoubleTree hotel at NYC’s financial district. I visit Antica for a business dinner. We had a confirmed reservation for four but the table took around 1 hour to be available. The room supervisor saw the issue and provided starters and drinks on the house expense without the need of any complain from our side, so he managed very well the situation. Good selection of Napa Valey wines. The food was zero to none – very good quality. The only negative points were that the restaurant can become very noisy which difficult sensitive business conversations and the AC was very cold. I made notice to the staff about the AC and for this type of restaurant I was expecting to hear “Yes sure, I will see what I can do” – even if in the end he does nothing. What I heard was more like: “Is very hot here, everyone is complaining about the hot probably you should put your blazer on”. Well I was not the only one complaining about the cold and I’m smart enough to decide if I should wear or not my blazer during a business meal. In summary I have mix fallings about Antica and probably if other options are available to have a business meal I will use them instead of Antica.

Remarkably good meal

By KB14850 |

I had a great meal at Antica tonight, after wandering for most of an hour looking for reasonably quiet option. The restaurant feels like it is straight from Florence or Bologna, including incredibly nice service (my waiter, Gaini (or Gianni?) was super). I ordered a light meal: sautéed artichokes and mushrooms, veal piccata, and a glass of the house cabernet. First, they sort of padded out my meal with additional antipasti, nothing huge but it really made for a lovely table. I particularly liked the fried eggplant and the house salami, and my artichokes and mushrooms were great. The veal was tender and perfectly seasoned. And in fact the cabernet was excellent, too. In Italy you kind of expect that. But not always in New York! I finished with a fig grappa (complementary again) and espresso, and was totally sold on this place. Not super fancy, so if you want something new age, this isn’t it. But in a quietly authentic way, excellent!

What a great restaurant!

By SinclerFranco |

One of the best restaurants I ever been! The place is beautiful, the food is awesome! The teasty and the smell still fresh in my mind. The service is unique! The waiters are very funny with their Italian style! Very well located, is a great option for a business dinner.

Incredible service!

By fmiruna |

Visited on a business trip. The restaurant decor is very pleasant and the place is quite cozy. The staff was incredible. They went above and beyond to accommodate me. I am gluten free, so when the manager heard, he came over to discuss a dish with me and offered to add extra ingredients for a better taste. The food was delicious. I would most definitely go back.

SKIP IT

By HLGA |

This restaurant did not live up to our expectations. The wine list was so horribly expensive that it has been the only time in my recollection that I have not ordered a full bottle of wine. We ordered just two glasses of wine The Italian sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee. A true letdown dining experience never to return again

Still an awesome place!

By FabGlobetrotter03 |

I came back to this restaurant and found out the name has changed. I have been coming here for almost a decade and I still love the food, the service and the atmosphere. This time I came with a friend visiting from Los Angrles and she loved it too. Awww we had a great dinner and the staff was awesome. It always feels like home when I come here for business or pleasure, but I prefer to come for pleasure with friends so I can let down my guard and enjoy the great selection of wine and grappa served here. I guess " I will be back" lol

An Excellent Restaurant ..

Don’t be put off with the fact that this restaurant is attached to a Double Tree Hilton. The food is excellent with a good reasonably priced wine list. Loved the bread and the food tasted very Italian authentic, was nicely presented with a smile. A very good experience thank you.

Great Italian Restaurant

By ddoyle17 |

Out of the way little Italian restaraunt my wife and I found on Trip Advisor. We had dinner here one night and a true old time Italian restaurant. The service was outstanding as the waiters ( all men) were dressed in tuxedoes and were very attentive. The food selection and wine list were old style Itsalian entries but very good. We actually expected the"Godfather" to walk into the restaurant anytime. Good time reasonable prices; highly recommend.

Phenomenal Customer Service, Elegant Atomsphere and Fabulous Veal Cutlet

By Mary H |

I was in New York City for a quick 2 days. I needed to be close to the financial district so I select the DoubleTree by Hilton located at 8 Stone Street. The front desk clerks were very professional and courteous. My room was ok but what has made me decide to return to this DoubleTree by Hilton is the restaurant located inside the hotel (Antinori Ristorante). As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a waiter dressed in a suit and bow tie. He offered me an intimate table at the bar. All the waiters were dressed in a suit and tie. The gentlemen told me all the nightly specials. Before I could get comfortable, a chef brought over grilled/sauteed zucchini & onions, cheese and ham then a waiter offered me an assortment of rolls. Those appetizers were excellent and complimentary. My margarita was awesome. I had to say, no more. I do not want to spoil my dinner. I ordered the veal cutlet parmesean, angel hair pasta and the sauteed spinach. It was not on the menu but the waiter stated, no problem. We can deliver that. The portions are enough for 2 people. So come with a big appetite. The meal was excellent. The Wait Staff never left me unattended. Someone was always at the table asking, can I get you something else. How is your meal. Then came a kind, personable man who made the experience exceptional. Mr. Sammy Elio. He is the Host/Manager. He gave me a dessert on the house. He walked around the restaurant talking to all the guest. Ensuring that we were enjoying our meal and just having conversations with everyone. Before I could leave, they offered a complimentary after dinner drink. It is an Italian Apricot Moonshine. You MUST try it. You will be please. I let Mr. Elio know that my co-workers and I will be back the next night for dinner. Please try the restaurant. Ask for Sammy Elio. You will be pleased. I could not believe the size of the veal cutlet. I definitely had to request a doggie bag.

Expensive, But Worth Your Money

By Ryu |

I had dinner with colleagues. This place is really expensive, but worth your money. They gave us three dishes of complimentary appetizers (no photos of them). They do Seafood Salad, Penne Arrabbiata, T-bone Steak, Chicken, and Chocolate Souffle right. Then they gave us complimentary fruit liquors. By the way, they got a really large pepper grinder.

Excellent place

By Janos K |

Excellent restaurant. Friendly and polite staff, great food and good atmospehere. I excepted higher prices in that area but I paid less than half I paid in the previous night across the street at the Nebraska steakhouse, where the food was terrible and overpriced.

Low quality food and poor services

By flyingmg |

Visited for breakfast only because it is part of Doubletree Hotel. Food quality is quite low. Watery eggs, soggy bacon. Not much other breakfast choices. Servers are not eager to serve. Most of the time just stand in front with nothing to do. They don't refill water. To make it worse, bill automatically adds 20% tips on their inflated prices without our knowledge/permission. Our group size is 4. Maybe that's why they don't bother to work hard.

Spicy Hot & Icy Cold

By Inge G |

The restaurant is conveniently located on the ground floor of Double Tree Hotel by Hilton on Stone Street. Once seated we were offered bread along with some kind of salami and peppers, a little warning about how insanely spicy hot these peppers were would have been appreciated, it took 3 glasses of water to make a small dent in the mouth fire after one little bite👎 I did point out how spicy the peppers were and was told "maybe hot to you, to us not so much". That is not ok, not everybody is adventurous in the food world or have knowledge about peppers. We ordered their minestrone soup and arugula salad, both dishes were very good and deserves a 4 star but their attitude left us icy cold.

Excellent food, terrible service

By Andrea A |

189 dollars for 6 "penne all'arrabbiata", 6 espresso, water. Tons of employee without experience and rude. Excellent food, but please consider a staff renewal

Nice place....but

By Aggsbaggs |

We went here when staying in NYC visiting our daughter and the was attached to the hotel we were staying at. Overall the food was good and some of there service was excellent, however. I was served by quite expensive wine in a Plastic Glass. Now if I had been sitting outside, I would have understood it, but not inside. I had t as a couple of times to get t put in a proper glass. At the end of the meal when asked how our meal was I brought u the subject of the glass and was told that they had run out of clean glasses and did not have time to wash them. Now this is a 4 star place, surely they could have washed the glasses or at least washed one for my wine. In this standard of restaurant I would have expected better than that and not been given this excuse by a wait who could not have cared less. I would not personally go back after this, but as the food was good I can't fault that, but please don't give bad excuses for not having clean wine glasses

Fake and cheap

By Megan R |

Those weren't shitakes, they were canned button mushrooms. The chicken maybe came from a dollar store, and the tiramisu was the worst imaginable. Don't waste your time eating here if you're a foodie, it's trash.

Terrible

By ElizabethGT |

I'm not sure how anyone can give this place a positive review. We eat in Italian restaurants all over the world, and this is NOT authentic, and the waiters are condescending and can be down right rude. NYC offers many other wonderful restaurants in the this area. Don't waste your time and money here.

Good Hotel in a Mediocre Hotel

By NovackTravelGuy |

The restaurant used by the DoubleTree Hotel for its breakfast offering. The restaurant served decent enough food, although the wait staff was not over energetic.

Very good Italian food in a lively environment. excellent service

By MBC19 |

We chose this restaurant based upon location, and would definitely return. We had excellent service, and the food was very good to excellent. Our daughter lived in Italy for a semester, and we visited her there. We can therefore say the food was authentic - my only disappointment was the tartufo dessert was not as good as I've had elsewhere (in other NYC Italian restaurants). We had excellent service on a weeknight in August, promptly seated with our reservation, and given a "complimentary appetizer" like we were special! Ends up it is given to everyone, but it was excellent! Fried zucchini with olive oil and shallots - the best I've ever had!- prosciutto and cheese, peppers, breads. A little pricey, but worth the price, especially in NYC.

Good Food and Service, but not Memorable

By Hawk470 |

My recollection of this restaurant in its former incarnation, Ancora, is very strong and very positive, so I was moderately disappointed in my recent return. Located in the Wall Street area (near the Bowling Green subway station), Antica serves very solid Northern Italian cuisine and is certainly one of the better Italian options in the neighborhood. As with Ancora, they provide some fine appetizers gratis -- fried zucchini, salami and Parmesan chunks, and a couple of slightly breaded and fried hot peppers. A nice, hospitable touch. The Insalata Tricolore came wrapped in a ring of zucchini, providing a note of distinction. The rest of our meal included Caesar Salad, Veal Marsala, and Veal Piccata. All were good, if not really memorable or outstanding. A few pieces of roasted potatoes were only the accompaniments. A large glass of a very good house Cabernet rounded the meal off. The good food, professional and informative service, and prices that are a bit below some restaurants of comparable quality make Antica a reasonable option for Italian food when dining in the area.

"Excellent food"

By 2happi |

Our family of 5 had Sunday brunch and was very pleased with the food. Service was not quite top notched as expected. Choice of buffet or menu-we chose buffet and the selections were plentiful and well prepared. I would definitely return if in the area.

Good good but…

By GOT_1234 |

Tasteful food and great atmosphere. Service is good but I have left with a really bad impression since tip was automatically included in my check (we were a party of 3). I thought it unnecessary!

Just don’t!

By schojo69 |

In my humble opinion, the meal I had (salmon- very little flavor and rubbery) was really, really bad. The meal did NOT meet expectations. I stayed at the hotel and it was late and didn’t want to venture out so I got a to go order. Wrong decision! I do not plan to ever eat there again.

Italian wine n dine is Superb

By Thomas Z |

This is not your basic Italian restaurant. Food is great! A variety of Italian dishes and daily specials that are out of this world. If you are in a mood for steak you can certainly make your palate drool with the T-bone. Grilled marinated octopus for appetizer is the die for! Salmon is always great; scallops in a light spicy sauce will have you want more! Oh and the grilled marinated calamari with melon will start off any main course with a wow and get you ready for what’s to come next. The staff is fantastic and will accommodate you the best they can! Oh and don’t leave without trying the homemade liqueurs, grappa, sambuca, Bellisimo!!!!

Excellent Italian in Stone Street

By Mark |

Great Italian (now located in the Hilton Doubletree) on Stone Street. I ate here three times recently while in New York - it has a great menu with a varied selection, excellent service and a good choice of wines which made this an excellent surprise find. Its busy every night so book if you can.... and if you can't, the owner will personally keep you happy (and your glass full) while you wait! Recommended.

Nice lunch

By GEORGE F |

Attentive service. Nice complimentary samples, cheese, peppers, dried sausage, spicy zuchinni. Nice and quiet place.

Condesending & Patronising Service

By Chris B |

It looked a really nice place, the waiters were in tuxedo's, yet somehow it looked very pretentious, very slick, a processing machine for eliciting money from you. My wife needed the restroom, and was told it is on the 2nd floor of the Doubletree hotel above, That's a pain, up elevators into the hotel reception. Then it was the usual, pushing water, bread, olives, then leaving food on the table, which really irritated us as we had to ask if we were going to be charged for this? as we never ordered it, we actually refused to eat any of it. You knew they were talking in Italian about you (when they were in a huddle) when you questioned them, or said give us five more minutes to choose. They wanted you in and out.I ordered Spag Bolognese, my wife ordered Salmon Asparagi which arrived with 5-7 minutes, yes that fast and despite the uncomfortable ambience the food was presented and served well and tasted good. Phew. Unfortunately It was a short visit as the waiters continually kept looking over to clear up, to move you on. Very uncomfortable and intimidating and over priced!! Shame as food was okay, staff need retraining starting with social skills & manners

very good italian near fraunces tavern

By Louis G |

Very good Italian, very good service, nice selection. took walk in, Pasta was great, as were the sauces.

odd location, pleasantly surprised

By Shaun B |

there are vew few restaurants to choose from in downtown area of NYC. I found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is in an odd location and when you approach it from the outside, it looks like you are at the wrong place. After going inside, we were taken downstairs to a nice restaurant area. The service was remakable and the food outstanding. I shared a porterhouse with a guest which wad cooked perfectly. there were plenty of vegetarian options as well.

Food Great, Service - Not So Much!

By KevinL41872 |

First, let me say that I would have rated very good but the service was very bad. I have stayed at the Doubletree a few times previously but first time eating in the restaurant. I was alone so ate at the bar as they were busy for a Wednesday night. The bar keep was rude, disinterested in me as a customer, never mind the other wait staff, and it really created a bad experience. I did enjoy the food very much and that is a saving grace and should I return, I will ask for a table to get a different server. The crispy calamari were fantastic and the dish I ordered, made for me specifically, was very good as well. Food VG, Service very poor. Sit at a table. Btw - I had breakfast there as well and the food was also very good.

Excellent fine dining experience

By Doc G |

A small but classy Italian fine dining restaurant with a limited range of authentic Italian cuisine. Took a long time to serve but worth the wait. A soup, entree, and main for $40

Top Notch Italian Food In The Financial District

By adam r |

This is an Italian restaurant in the double Tree hotel. You would never know it unless you read the reviews or unless you have been working in the area for years. This is a place where the elite would eat. It's a top restaurant but mostly caters to Wall Streeters due to location. too many good things to list here. It's upscale and definitely worth trying!

Antica is a well-established Financial District Italian Choice

By Thomas K |

I have enjoyed dozens of business and leisure meals at Antica (and her predecessor, Ancora) over the past 10 years and have never been disappointed. From small 2-4 person transactional business lunches and dinners, to dinner parties with a dozen or more, to (most recently) an intimate dinner with my spouse, Elio and the team have ALWAYS made us feel special, sated our appetite for whatever we wanted or needed, and guaranteed a return visit. Some of my favorites include the tableside Caesar and the tableside Branzino. Beef and other standards are spectacular. The wine list has something delicious in every price range. Most fun is the rolling grappa bar, with options that include raisin grappa, apricot grappa, Sambuca and others. Many shy away from grappa after a big meal, but a small tot helps disgestion - try some! Go to Antica hungry and take your time. . .

Run away !

By Alexnyy |

jgood food but unacceptable service! we had never seen that! we were friends and some of us working in restaurants .... we were celebrating a birthday. Badly received we are told that they no longer serve to ultimately catch us before leaving. We were served bottles that we had not ordered to start ! the second surprise was the bill ... $ 287! and finally, we are informed that we could pay only by credit card! what joke ! for 6 pasta dishes and some drinks ... never seen! Run Away ! sorry for the youngest of the restaurant who was very kind ...

Delicious!

By Katrina T |

Absolutely delicious food! Service was great, Georgio was very welcoming, and we got a kick out of the large peppermills. Would definitely recommend to others in the area!

Best steak for Italian Restaurant

By Gil A |

ate at this restaurant as it's connected to the DoubleTree hotel in the financial district and their steak was MASSIVE. The portion is so big and there's no way you can eat it all in once sitting. No steak sauce needed here

Fabulous food and service

By 184mariannef |

Traveling alone I decided to try this Italian restaurant on Stone Street. I was so impressed with the attentive and professional service. The food was amazing. They prepared my Cesar salad table side. Before that they brought cheese, salami and fried zucchini as appetizer compliments of the chef. And my carbonara entree was the best I’ve had. At 6:30 on a weds night there was no wait for a table. Highly recommend!

great meal

By lbkmco |

Had dinner with another while staying in the hotel. These food was great and so was the service. Hot was hot and cold was cold as it should be.

Great Italian, Beautiful Restaurant

By Ldunkel |

Unique italian food, fresh, beautifully set white linen tables, courteous and attentive staff. I ordered the Pollo Mt Etna which was like nothing that I have ever had before - it was very good (but you have to like balsamic).

Excellent food, very convenient to DoubleTree Hotel

By Vernon M |

Great service and my meal was very well prepared and I enjoyed the unique flavors that the meal offered.

Excellent food and service

By KACYTampa |

We had a group of 11 for a client lunch and we were attended to as if we were the only ones in the restaurant (and we were not). Each course was better than the previous one. We were all full to the brim but kept eating because the food was so good. A great place for a business lunch.

Great little restaurant for dinner and breakfast

By Mary D |

The service and food quality here is friendlier than most hotel restaurants. We had a wonderful dinner here, with a few pleasant surprises - complimentary small plates before and grappa after dinner. Dinner service, although slow (caveat: many large groups and very crowded the night we dined), is very close to a "white glove" experience without the price tag. I had breakfast here twice and recommend ordering off the menu instead ot the buffet - the American breakfast off the menu was so good- great eggs, great bacon- cooked just right and served warm. It was much better than the eggs and bacon at the buffet and It is also less expensive. The buffet did not have anything out of the ordinary to make it a better option than ordering off the menu.

Very Italian place

By Ilya s |

I never expected too see so Italian restaurant in this part of New York. They do perfect. Nice chianti, perfect cheeses, very authentic pasta and deserts.

Amazing food and service!

By BuffStuff |

We came here for dinner, and it was the perfect end to a very long day. This was the best meal I had during my first trip to NYC! They set you up with starters, we had salami, parmesan, and grilled peppers (or green chiles?) with just enough spice and bread(of course). I started with the scallops and they were, without a doubt, the best scallops I have ever had. I want to move to NYC for the food alone... I went with the lobster ravioli which was freaking amazing. We figured why not make it a complete meal, I had the key lime pie which was so good. Their bartender is not stingy at all and all their staff are wonderful, try the fig liqueur after your meal, I forget what it is called but they have different flavors. The ambiance here is classy but comfortable, thanks to Tony who was a wonderful server and charged my phone while we ate! Can't wait to come back and eat here...I recommend it to everyone!

Fantastic food in noisy italian atmosphere

By jill p |

The food is fantastic - no question. If you don't like noisy Italian restaurants this probably isn't the place for you. Unfortunately our private room wasn't available as the thermostat wasn't working in there, but instead of talking business over dinner we ended up having a fun time in the main restaurant. The maître d was a character, loud but knowledgeable recited the entire menu off by heart to us and made recommendations.

Very happy with our meal!

By SamanthaloveSHD |

The food was high quality and prepared very well. The service was attentive and not too overwhelming as another reviewer mentioned, yet that may have to do with the huge groups present at the same time. This is the one reason we would not rate this as excellent. The downstairs part of this restaurant (apparently there is an upstairs that they did not have open) is very small so any large (boisterous) group can alter the ambiance that Ancora would have offered during our meal. The management was well aware of the this and brought us "gratis" appetizers and wine which we noted and appreciated. We had bolognese pasta - mouthwatering! Mushrooms ravioli - fresh and creamy, delectable! Veal in two preparations - tender and generous portions! Panna cotta - perfecto! We would definitely return but check to see if large groups were booked that night first!

great food & awesome service!

By Roberta R |

Antica was a last minute selection and without reservations, the staff still welcomed us and gave us a nice table. Our food was excellent and the service was exceptional. My friend had the ravioli special & I had the risotto. When our waiter found out that we were celebrating my friend's 65th birthday, he gave us a dessert with a candle, capping off a special evening with a great person touch. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Shocking lack of service and customer care.

By Irene D |

We chose this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and liked the idea of eating outside on their terrace. However, as we were seated, it became clear that our waiter was directing his attention to two female friends of his who were on the next table. He sat chatting and drinking wine with them rather than take our order which we eventually placed with another waiter. My husbands starter arrived (I had only chosen a main course) but the "absent waiter" who by this time seems a little drunk started to dish it onto my plate. When I said I didn't want it and that it was for my husband his reply was that I should eat it as it was very nice! From that point, we were ignored by him as he and his friends ordered more wine and stared smoking and becoming louder and louder. Under normal circumstances, we would have left the restaurant but we had had a very long day and were very tired and just wanted something to eat. The final straw was when the "absent" waiter staggered into our table knocking our drinks along with my husband's seat. We asked to see the manager and were told he wasn't in that evening, which was pretty clear based on the staff's behaviour. One of the other waiters apologised profusely and offered us more wine etc. but it really was a dreadful experience and we were glad to leave. Unfortunately, this is the restaurant that provides the buffet breakfast for our hotel and we foolishly revisited for breakfast the following day based on the assumption that there would be different staff. This was indeed the case, but the service was no better. We were seated at a dirty table which we had to ask to be wiped twice and there was such a lack of available cutlery that we had to wait 15 minutes for a spoon. I have never left a poor review for any establishment before but there are so many good reviews for this restaurant that I can only think it has changed hands recently. It was truly, truly shocking.

Good food, good service in the Financial District, NYC

By Frank C |

Ancora Italian Restaurant is located in the DoubleTree Hotel on Stone Street in NYC's Financial District. A reservation is a must; the place is filled with dark suits. The service is impeccable but with a caveat. The waiter will recommend the highest priced ($19.50) hot appetizer so look at the menu where you'll find nice salads for half the price. The wine list is pricey; Wall Street after all, starting at $65.00. The Orechiette with sausage was plentiful. A special was lobster stuffed Ravioli as well as Chilean Sea Bass, also plentiful. Be aware that the menus have Antinori written on them. I'm not sure what name the restaurant is using now. But the food is very good, the service is good, but it is pricey.
