Atrocious service

By Juliana O |

I have rarely experience such a poor level of service from a restaurant. I was truly embarrassed to have hosted a guest for dinner here. Here's 5 reasons why: 1) The waiter spilled and broke a large glass bottle of water on my guest. She was soaked and shards of glass fell on her. We were offered nothing more than a damp cloth and an apology. A few minutes later a waiter dropped a dirty fork on my guests' lap. She left with soaked pants and purse and a dirtied shirt. They didn't as much as offer to comp our dessert. 2) The manager was very rude from the minute I arrived. I arrived 5 minutes early to the reservation and my guest arrived on time. I was still told that if my guest arrived late it would "mess up" his whole schedule and he would have to give up my table. I assured him my guest would be punctual and she was. There was no indication that my guest would be late and I found this rude to threaten giving up my table before I had even stepped foot in the place. 3) We were rushed through our entire dinner, constantly being pestered to order. The waiter went as far as to remind us our appetizers had arrived when we took two minutes to finish our bread before beginning to eat them. Then the check came before we had even had two bites of our dessert. It was picked up twice before I had the chance to put my card in (because I was still eating my dessert). They couldn't have done more to get us out of there and we weren't being slow patrons whatsoever. 4) The table was abysmal. My chair was right by the door and I was constantly being bumped by incoming/outgoing customers. My guest was squeezed into a corner. There was a slightly better 2 person table available but we were told we couldn't have it even though we had a reservation. 5) The waiter forgot to return my credit card in the check folder. I forgot to ask for it and returned to the restaurant a few minutes later to pick it up. They immediately denied having it without even checking. Then they found it still in the credit card machine. No apology was offered. I politely tried raising these issues to the manager when we left and he was defensive and said there was nothing to be done. It was a completely unacceptable response to an already unacceptable level of service.

Great place, terrible service

By WestVillager_12 |

Went to this place several times. Atmosphere is great, food is so so, but the service can be off the charts bad. This waitress Bella was straight out insulted half of our group, made one of the girls in the group cry. I've never seen anything like it...

After the shopping & museum madness - great wine & relax time

By Rhonda A |

We spent a busy day shopping & museum hopping the day after Thanksgiving and needed to rest and relax with a glass of wine and luckily found this great little wine bar. Not expecting much, we were pleased to enjoy some great wine and a delicious cheese plate without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is charming and we engaged with the very friendly bar staff from France and Spain. We loved getting away from the crowds and tourists and found this to be the perfect rest stop before dinner!

Very Good Food in Tiny Place

By Gustavo L |

I went to Aria with family a brunch, (we made a reservation). Aria is in West Village close to Hudson river in a very cozy location. I almost coudn't find the entrance. The restaurant is a very tiny place with a bar so we were squeezed in a big table sharing with other people. Not so good but when the food arrived we forgot about that. Everything was amazing from the appetizers to the entrees. Wine is a little bit overpriced but a good italian selection. If you speak italian you can talk to the restaurant crew, real italians.

Great service, great food, and the wine was flowing

By Tracy B |

We loved the small plates and despite it being a Friday night, they squeezed us into a window seat which was kind of fun because we could see out. The waiter was pretty funny, really knew the wines, and was super helpful picking out some of the small plates. We really loved the pasta and their tomato sauce, some of the best I've ever tasted.

A really great place. Authentic

By Capt_Kendoll |

A really great place. Authentic Italian food in the heart of NYC’s West Village. Around the corner from the famous Spotted Pig. Great vibe, great food and friendly service. Love it!

Awful experience

By motherofheaven |

Avoid this place!! Rude waiter, our female guest got elbowed in the head and waiter did not apologize, mussels came to the table raw, had to send plate back, antipasto board totally overpriced at $35 for what they offer, gave us the wrong bill, which was more. What a horrible experience. Go elsewhere, not worth the aggravation!

Good but not extraordinary

By Yu Z |

The four of us went for dinner and in general the food was great. However the menu doesn’t have main courses so you need to wait for the waiter to come and give you the “specials” which has 2 main courses. And they don’t show prices. Even though you know it can’t be outrageously expensive, it is still bizarre how they are not showing the prices for the only main courses available. The mushroom appetizer was fabulous. Also the branzino was also perfectly cooked. The table was too small so we had problem putting on 3 appetizers all at once. I wouldn’t come again. There are way too many better options out there.

Rude staff and cramped seating- go somewhere else

By Merna A |

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The seating is so awful and the quality of the staff is abysmal. The waiter was so rude that I left the restaurant before eating. I have actually been to Aria before so I can confidently say that the food is not worth the terrible attitude and seating. There are hundreds of amazing restaurants in the West Village. Go elsewhere.

Great atmosphere and food!

By Tracezz |

The Italian food was almost excellent. Definitely worth trying. Good wine selection too. Waitresses and waiters very friendly and helpful.

Great little gem!

By Claire M |

What a great little gem this restaurant is! Delicious food, efficient service and such a wonderful atmosphere. My only gripe would be was that the glass of wine I ordered was only half a glass and was served in a thick glass tumbler.....a nice wine glass would have been much better! We will definitely return again when we are next in New York.

$12 pasta ... Not

By Stacey L |

We were looking for casual dining - not a long drawn out dinner - Aria looked perfect - quick glance at menu - all pastas $12. Decor good - lots packed into small space and noisy - didn't really bother us. Waiter rushed through the specials - service is prompt and friendly but definetly get impression this business is run by number of bottoms on seats per night. The squid ink ravioli with tuna was delicious - my partner enjoyed the risotto. One beer and wine and a shared desert - our bill was $100. My only complaint would be lack of disclosure that special pasta dishes were twice the price ... I should have asked!! Have learnt a lesson bit annoyed and feel conned! Not inclined to revisit this place.

A pleasant experience

By Margaret M |

Very good tapas style menu. Delicious lamb chops and a tasty asparagus, prosciutto with poached egg dish. Service was friendly, although rushed! My only comments: metal stools, while stylish, are uncomfortable. And on a personal preference... Prefer my wine in a stemmed glass not a small chunky beverage glass! Would certainly recommend this place to others....already DID!

Authentic - Real - Yummy

By Alexandros S |

If you look for a food experience that you'll remember for ever, Aria is the place to eat! Nadia, a good friend of mine and an ex-waitress in Aria, insisted so much to go there and, thank god, we follow her. Lovely setting, high level cuisine, clear and authentic tastes , hearty portions, excellent drinks, well-made wine list and divine desserts. All this at prices normal, quite cheaper than what is usual in Manhattan. Highly recommended !!! Tip: get the dishes in the middle to try as much as you can

Appetizing at Aria

By JulesBrie |

Stopped in after visiting a museum near by. The service was delightful & the food was absolutely amazing. Quaint and charming with a cozy West Village vibe. Great for consversation with lovely ambience.

Good italian food and good wine

By Andrea D |

The place is really nice, a little crowded but the service is fast. The food is tasty and is a good representation of the italian cusine. The white wine was good and the price proportioned to its quality.

Great night, great atmosphere

By Jessica I |

Visited Aria on a weeknight and the place was still pumping. Great service, great food and great wine. The interior is intimate (it can get loud) but we loved every moment.

Great Italian small plates

By frankspurs |

A great little Italian restaurant tucked away in the West Village. They specialize in small plates, which are great for getting an overall taste of the menu. My personal favourites are the Barata and the baby lamb chops, complimented by a very reasonible wine list. Gets crowded and noisy late at night.

Small plates and house wine

By FM6565 |

This is one of my favorite spots in the village. It has its ups and downs, but never bad. Small cuts, pasta, wine by the glass and good bread.

Food amazing, waiter not so much

By BobsyW |

We came in to grab dinner and the food was amazing, I had a risotto with truffle, mmm! We ordered 2 bottles of wine, the first was not that great and $80 dollars. It was recommended by our server who we all felt was pretty rude. We skipped anything else he recommended and then we were great. The hostess was AMAZING, she came around more than waiter did it felt like..

Great experience

By Matt T |

Great service. Excellent food and great prices! Keep up the good work! Loved the Mushroom Bruschetta and Gnocchis.

Cosy and very friendly service

By Werner S |

Great italian cuisine served in a very cosy setting. Some tables are quite interesting, made of concrete with white tiles.

Ok but nothing special

By IanMumford |

The atmosphere and menu showed promise at Aria, but the dishes we chose were somewhat disappointing. The pasta dishes were over cooked with too much sauce and it was hard to taste the truffles in the gnocchi. The red wine was served warm. The servings were appropriate for tapas and sharing dishes. Our server seemed to lack interest. It really didn’t live up to its potential.

Great place for Italian food

By cseijas84 |

Every single time me and my wife visit New York we go to this place. Either to have an entire meal or just order some wine and have something to share this place is great. I love the food and every minute I spend here.

Rude service, cold food

By Aniek |

Rude service. We were asked to leave 75 minutes after we booked our table because the next guests had arrived. They want to get you out as fast as possible. The risotto turned out to be almost twice the price as other main dishes. Our starter was cold.

Good atmosphere, ok food, bad service

By Rasta Foodie |

Great place to grab happy hour drinks and Italian tapas. Tapas dishes weren't good given the high prices and pasta lacked character.. service was rushed and rude as to be expected in a tight nyc bar.. not a place to eat rather go there to hang out

A great find

By SlatesUK |

We had reservation at a renowned hot spot for lunch but walked past this place just before it opened for service and decided to go back here instead of our other choice. It was without a doubt the right choice. It's small and packed it they manage to look after everyone very well. The menu is varied with great daily specials. The pasta was fantastic, super fresh with loads of flavour. Great choices of beer, wine & Prosecco.

Nice atmosphere and delicious food

By Jeroen M |

Stumbled upon Aria thanks to the lighting and queue outside, not a bad choice to wait for a table there. Service was good, food came pretty fast and very tasty. Both the starters as the seconds were fresh and full of flavour. Very happy we went for some of the choices of the day (squid salad was great). Only thing to improve would be the coffee afterwards. Espresso didn't taste like espresso at all (watered down, no pressure), only thing I wouldn't recommend!

Great introduction to west Village

By chilipepper54 |

We stopped by for some cocktails and appetizers. Very cozy and intimate. Food was fabulous. I would love to come back!!

Great food and lovely staff

By Charlotte |

Our first time in NYC and our first restaurant of our trip. We arrived without a reservation and they managed to get us in. Such a lovely little restaurant, we loved how cozy it was, the decor and lighting. The staff were amazing the two young French lads were so quick and polite on Service. Our food was freshly made and tasted lovely. The food came out so quickly too we were shocked when the waiter brought our food over. They were accommodating to my dietary requirements too and were able to tweak a dish that I wanted so that I could eat it. Good prices for NYC too and a good location only a 5 min walk from where we were staying. Would definitely go again and recommend to others.

What a delightful place and the food is really delicious.

By Liz Goodyear jones |

we went for dinner last week. Lovely entrance with flowers and hostess. Table right away, though did have reservation and we were early. Cosy atmosphere, excellent service and the food was delicious. I had a pasta with wonderful fresh mushrooms and glass of chianti. Price was right as well. do enjoy!

Dining as a woman alone with cicchetti, friendly atmosphere and good wine

By lccasey67 |

I really enjoy the food and service at this tiny little restaurant in the Village. I love the West Village best, which has a vibe totally different than anywhere else in New York. And I l love the little side streets. That's why I went to Aria. As I was by myself, it was a good place for me to eat because I knew that there were solo seats at and alongside the bar and in the windows, and I like that it's dark, which is cozy to me. And I knew it would be the kind of atmosphere I wanted, with people eating and talking, European style, crammed in but not claustrophobic. I lucked out at 9:30, catching the last available seat. The waiter was very attentive to me, coming by to see if I needed anything, and made me feel very comfortable. The seats next to me were taken by some very lovely young women, and as you are in very close proximity with your neighbors, your food is right next to them -so my "seatmate" oogled my dish when it arrived- asked what it was -so I shared it with her so she could try it - it was the Melanzano (Eggplant) with goat cheese and it was delicious! She asked me if I had eaten here before (yes I have) and what I recommended. I told her I was getting the Pappardelle with Chingale (wild boar) and that not too many places serve that. I would have been contented to be alone, reading on my iphone, but the atmosphere and close contact with nice people certainly makes conversation possible - if you want it. I had a glass of Montalcino, a cicchetti, a main pasta dish, and the bill was $38 which is quite reasonable, and if you weren't an eater like me you could skip the cicchetti which would take $12 off the tab - more than reasonable. And after a crappy day, Aria was soothing, and I didn't feel awkward at all eating dinner alone, which is something I'm not used to.

Great food, great service

By RamonRu |

We made a reservation for five for a Friday night. Family outing, three generations, from a 13 y/o birthday girl to 70 y/o grandma. We arrive to the place and it certainly did not look like a “family place”. After we were seated, the server could not have been better. We order multiple plates>> pasta, veggies, meat. The food was excellent. Everyone was satisfied. They even sang “Happy Birthday” to our 13 y/o daughter. It was not cheap, but not unexpected for for this type of food and service in Greenwich Village on a Friday night. We hope to return.

Delicious! What a wine bar should be

By legendrc |

Came in on a quiet Monday afternoon (MLK day), very few people were in the restaurant. Got a carafe of wine and a few dishes as the menu was structured and priced as a "small dish" place. The dishes were actually very generous (we were stuffed!) and the food was absolutely delicious. The suckling pig and truffle mashed potatoes especially stood out. The boar pappardelle was delicious and the serving for $12 was more generous than what I have gotten for 25 at fancy Italian restaurants! Service was prompt, attentive and very knowledgeable about the wines. Perhaps we were lucky because it was not busy, but overall it was an exceptional experience.

blown away... authentic Italian in Manhattan

By brad_capetown |

reservations not taken so best arrive at the restaurant slightly early to get onto the waiting list. cute little Italian restaurant in the West Village and is a hidden gem. service - great. starters - healthy portion that was delicious mains - equally delicious. overall - i will be back, the next time I am in Manhattan.

Many Magical Moments .... ahhhhhhhhhhhh A day to remember~ We'll be back

Not for groups

By Nicole Harrison |

We have been to this restaurant a few times usually as a smaller group and have always loved the atmosphere. This time however we came as a group of about 8. Service was not great and the server was a little rude. We asked for help with the menu as we had such a large group and he offered no input besides suggesting we hadn't ordered enough and as a result the food was massively over ordered. Also some of the appetizers weren't as we had ordered either. Little attention was giving through out the seating and we generally had to clear our own plates and then get someone's attention to take them. When we would try to order drinks he would take one order then run off before someone could put another order in. I understand they were very busy as are a lot of NYC restaurants - but his general attitude was not great. Finally when the bill came, we asked to split it, they only do 7 cards minimum so we asked to put two on one card. Somehow this also was messed up and someone paid 40 more. Unfortunately we probably won't be coming back.

Amazing Find! Fantastic Food! Great Experience!

By KMHHalifax |

My daughter and I had planned to eat at the Spotted Pig but we were advised that wait would be two hours. Without a plan, we bravely set off looking for another option. I saw some lights that looked promising on a side street, noted that the restaurant was Italian and busy, so we decided to see if they could seat us. Immediately we were greeted by a very friendly man who pointed us to two stools (with backs) at a large bar. The tables are very close together but we managed to get to the bar and the other patrons somehow made room for us to sit. Out of no where, a waiter appeared with menus, place settings and a bottle of water. The couple seated across for us asked if it was our first time. We said yes, we just found it and they said it was hands down their favourite place to eat in NYC. In fact, they were having dinner somewhere else later (it was the woman’s birthday), and wanted to have something at Aria first. (That's quite an endorsement, if you think about it.) They let us try their dishes - an amazing squid dish with olives and tomatoes and the Bolognese. Both superior. There was lovely bread on the table. We opted for a pear salad to share, my daughter chose gnocchi and I selected spaghetti and meatballs. Everything was delicious although I thought my daughter would cry for joy while eating her gnocchi. I had an excellent inexpensive quarto of Chianti. We finished by sharing their cheese cake with "brûlée" sugar on top, served with vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis. Our friends from Texas left and were replaced by another couple from London. The man was celebrating his birthday and they were staying with his girlfriend’s brother who lived in the Village. They were also lovely and chatty. People feel like large cities can be alienating but Aria is the kind of place that fosters a sense of community because the owners have created a dining experience that is shared. The prices are so reasonable... you could eat here every day! The next trip to NYC will include a visit to Aria. The service, atmosphere and food are top notch. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant.

Great food and wine

By Eva Antoniou |

Lovely neighborhood spot for wine and pasta. Went with a friend and can’t wait to return. We split a bottle of wine and some snacks

Great little restaurant

By Foodie |

Stumbled upon this restaurant on a walk through West Village New York. We were made to feel so welcome and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Nice Italian in NYC

By Jamie F |

We stopped at Aria for dinner, and were seated at the window. It was a cozy and buzzing space, with good music and great appetizers. Our main courses were quite good, but unfortunately, my boyfriend was finished his and a few beers by the time mine had come out of the kitchen. The oversight was unfortunate, and I'm not sure worth the 30 minute wait, but I would probably come back.

Basement delights

By chuckcocke |

We were given a premier spot for a wonderful experience eating and enjoying the ambiance. The food portions were ideal allowing us to have a nice variety of foods including ribs and pasta.

Fun, good food but chaotic

By 50sNewEnglander |

Not your typical serene wine bar. 9 people on a Saturday night, VERY LOUD, chaotic, but the wine and small plates were very good. Service was prompt. Tough to enjoy sharing though as it was hard to speak to anyone more than a seat away due to the VOLUME of the music. All in the group enjoyed the evening and all would return but maybe on a Wednesday when the VOLUME might be a bit less. Fun night out with friends- yes, relaxing over wine and small plates- not.

Wonderful food

By Danielle T |

This is one of the restaurants that make you want to return !! The food was amazing. The portions are small and allows to try different plates. The portions are like "tapas". But you should be open to a croweded and noisy restaurant. The most tables are diveded for more than 10 people.

A nice little Italian Restaurant

By Bruce E |

A lovely small restaurant in Greenwich Village. It is a great little Italian restaurant with plenty of atmosphere. We had stopped there for a lunch and the food was very good. The service was good. We would go there again.

It is a snack bar not a restaurant

By Mariamka |

First time we discovered this place in 2011 and decided to come back because of the cheesecake I had in 2011 (it was delicious!!). So this time we thought it would be nice to eat there as well. Well maybe because it was a Friday night but this place was deafening loud - we sat at the bar and could not talk as it was pointless. We ordered some tapas - pasta with wild mushrooms and grilled prawns were very good. Sliced octopus was slightly gone off - I left most of it - no one asked me why. Cheesecake this time was not as good as last time (shame!). The service was fine. What I really didn't like was that in the bill they included a compulsory 18% gratitude and then on top of that they asked for more tips?!? 18% - is way too much for this place! So be aware and check your bill.

Cute wine bar

By DublinGirlie |

Myself and my husband returned to this wine bar after spending a glorious afternoon here sipping wine two years ago. We recently again had another lovely afternoon here sharing a bottle of wine and sitting in the window seats. There is a lovely relaxing vibe in the place. I'd definitely return.

Always packed, consistently good!

By SSSLEEP |

Aria is so cute, always packed, and the food is great. It can get a little loud, and it's small so you might feel a little packed in, but it's very "new york". They also have a great little room downstairs for private parties.

Magnifico!

By Jerry S |

This is truly a gem in WV. Great if you don't want a full meal but want something to eat in a high energy environment. Prices are fair and wine selection is great for food selection. Can get loud but that is part of its success. Wonderful date night or place for a meal with friends

Valentine's day double-date

By wenztravels |

My husband and I and friend's of ours came here for dinner, we luckily got a last minute reservation for 4 as they had a cancellation. We ate at the group table downstairs and ordered many dishes for a "family-style" evening of good times! The staff was great, they recommended lots of items and we loved them all. They did mix up the dishes and we ended up with some items that the group beside us had ordered, they didn't charge us for these and quickly brought more for the other group. Overall, great atmosphere, great food, a great night!

Italian Tapas

By Josue E |

Amazing little space, a fantastic dining night out. We ordered four dishes (for two) and were pretty full after sharing the first two fairly large tapas. We loved the Roasted Red Beets and Herbed Goat Cheese Salad and the Gorgonzola Stuffed Dates Wrapped in Speck. The Tagliatelle Bolognese was perfectly cooked. Everything was phenomenal.

Fun Small Resturant in Hells Kitchen

By jack_b1 |

Went with a large group of friends while in town for the Notre Dame LGBT Alumni Weekend. A very fun place for drinks and food. The staff was superb and the food was delicious. Being a small venue it can get a little cozy, but don't let that stop you, part of the charm!

One of my favorites

By Tessa v |

I always love coming here, the food is so awesome and I loved the tapas/shared dining idea behind it. It is always busy so if you have a 2+ party make reservations. The only thing is that it can be very loud, the acoustics of the room are not great.

Friendly service and good food.

By Annie Y |

As we were staying down the road, we decided to check Aria out as it was highly recommended by friends. We weren't early and had no problems getting a seat at the bar area but be prepared to share with other people as we eventually had people sit opposite us. Serivce friendly and while its a wine bar, their wines by the glass should note the name of the bottle and location of where it's from. We ordered a few dishes and thought they were all good, especially their wild boar pappardelle and their burrata from their specials. Long queues when we were leaving, so get there early!

A Treasure in the West Village

By jennphonic |

I adore this place. Small plates, great prices. Rustic yet elegant vibe. It gets really busy at night, so I recommend going earlier. We met up with friends at 3pm and had the place to ourselves for a while. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in town! The stuffed dates, warm goat cheese, lasagna... all great choices, but honestly I don't think there is anything less than wonderful on the menu. Enjoy!

Worst service ever!!

By Lotte Honig |

With a fiew hospitality friends I went to Aria’s last night. Our server Lucas was fine in the beginning but as soon as we ordered drinks it went wrong. We ordered 2 bottles of wine, around $50 each. We received some sort of water glasses so we asked for normal wine glasses, we could not get those because we ordered “bad” wine so we had to order wine for $10 more. The server brought the wine dumped the bottle unopend on the table and returned 10 minutes later. I told him that we did not really liked it that we had to wait for already 20 minutes since we ordered our drinks. He told us that it was our own fault! I was stunned that he acted with this kind of attitude. The first thing he asked was if we wanted to leave. He was rolling with his eyes and telling us that we took to long and he had other tables waiting. A few minutes later I asked the server Lucas if he could make a picture of us. He looked at me and ignored me completely. While ordering our food he was not interested at all, he kept looking around and was not focused. The following thing happend, we ordered 4 starters to share. We only received one of those and one we did not order. They did not came as starters but all at the same time with our main course. The food was good but as soon as we finished the plates were gone and the check was on the table. The server lucas did not offer us deserts or anything else. The worst thing at all was that we had a charge of $60 of gratuity, as if he had deserved anything with a attitued like that towards guests. The food was good but if you want to go there make sure that Lucas is not your server!

Great Tapas

By greenstravels |

We have been here a few times and have had a good experience each time. I love the neighborhood atmosphere and the variety of food on the menu. The wine selection is also very good. The lobster ravioli was excellent! We also enjoyed the grilled shrimp and artichoke tapas. The only dish we didn't like was the steamed spinach (side). This is one of my favorite places to go whenever I'm in NYC. If you like to sample different foods and dishes - this is the place for you!

Great Quaint Restaurant

By zpcsc |

I found this restaurant while searching for a place to eat during our stay in Soho near the Hudson River. The reviews were good and it was walking distance so we decided to give it a try. It was on a Monday night and there was a crowd. As we walked in, the staff was very pleasant. We were seated and the waitress went over the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and we decided to order a couple of small plates Italian Tapas. We started with the Caprino alle Erbe which was the warm goat cheese with tomato sauce and it was delicious, we also ordered the Crostini Porchetta the sliced suckling pig it was ok. For our entree we went with the special risotto with seafood which was very good as well. We then had dessert the cream brûlée. The waitress was very friendly, great staff. The prices were reasonable and the ambience was great. I really liked it and will return during my next trip to New York City.

Excellent

By Tim |

A superb place to eat and drink. The tuna tartare was great. The pesce del giorno was so tasty. Cenobio was a fantastic server. Nice ambiance.

Very good

By Minajay |

Enjoyed the food here. Very fresh and flavorful. They also have a variety of dishes, a welcome change from the other Italian places I frequent. It is quite small (totally appropriate for manhattan, elsewhere it might actually bother me), so we had a bit of a wait and felt a bit squeezed. Nonetheless, the food made up for all of that.

Great Local Restaurant

By Brock B |

Dropped by on the recommendation of a number of NY based friends. This is a no book policy place which meant we had to get there early. Service was friendly and food fantastic. Was the right choice for a fun night.

Fun place with great food

By Sindjoh |

We ended up having a late dinner at Aria´s one evening, as the place looked welcoming and fun as we passed; Packed with young people, somewhat loud music and the a lot of candles everywhere creating a nice atmosphere. The plates were small so I recommend ordering a couple of dishes and share them. The food was delicious, quite cheap and served fast! Unfortunately our waiter did not bother to check on us after the food was served so we actually had to ask for the bill a couple of times and ended up waiting a long time before we finally could pay and leave. As this was a very busy night these kind of situations may occour. All in all a great place to grab a meal!

good ambiance

By thibaut a |

I recently went to Aria (once again i should say) and i always like the ambiance. I love seating at the "bar" area close to the kitchen. You can see the staff working and preparing your meal. Perfect for small get together with friends over tapas and wine

Super Sunday

By Tom435 |

We’ve eaten here before on week nights and have never been disappointed. It can be difficult to get a seat at times and the basement doesn’t quite have the same vibe. We ventured in today for a late Sunday lunch and it was a lot more chilled - there’s a selection of Brunch specials plus the full menu available - the latter is extensive and the meatballs are among the best in town. We chose 3 starters including the meatballs and a bottle of Pinot Grigio and enjoyed one of the best meals ever. Front of house staff led by the superb Benjiman are excellent and with a great playlist in the background it was really hard to leave.

Cozy Italian spot

By Mercedes E |

I came here for a date and it was the perfect spot. Being in the W. Village, it is quite cozy, but that's part of the charm. I went on a Wednesday at 8pm and the place was packed. There is a bar you can eat at,as well as tables. We were at a table, which was more comfortable, but the food and service is so good I wouldn't mind eating at the bar. The owner and server were great about recommending wine and food from the menu. I would definitely come back for a special occasion.

might as well have been my college cafeteria...

By Lantzzer |

from the crowd to the service....everything about this place screamed amateur hour. the place was over crowded and it was hard to tell who even worked there. we made a birthday reservation for 9 people...and around 9:30 we still had received no update...and there were no signs of us seating anytime soon. total mess. we instead went right around the corner to the left bank...which was superb. if you are looking for a chaotic dinner..filled with screaming girls and typically first-year banker dudes...this is the place for you. would never attempt to go back.

Great place

By Capt_Kendoll |

This is a great little place just round the cor eat from the well know “spotted pig”. Nice, busy vibe with attentive staff and lovely food. The cocktails are nice too! Highly recommend.

Visiting our daughter this past weekend , we wanted to go to a Wine Bar before dinner . She had this place recommended, and it was super . Cozy with small tables, and a nice bar. Delicious apps and wine all very good. All the apps we ordered were tasty , and the wine excellent . Don’t miss this sweet little restaurant / wine bar! Excellent !

Great Vibe & Food

By Maxine S |

We stopped at Aria for drinks on a warm afternoon and returned for dinner the following day. The menu had so many enticing items, we had to go back, and we were not disappointed. Some standouts were the crostini with sliced sucking pig, lobster ravioli that had large chunks of lobster and a light vodka sauce, orecchiette with Italian sausage, garlic and broccoli rabe, and the branzino with a white wine reduction sauce and mashed potatoes. A shout out to Ben behind the bar who complements the friendly, neighborhood wine bar vibe.

Panacotta

Always coming back for the panacotta that is delicious, the pasta was delicious and the place very trendy

Excellent Italian Small Plates!

By Kayla G |

My boyfriend and I were spending a night in NYC, and he wanted to explore the West Village. We got a bit lost and ended up in an area with very little around us. After a quick google search for "best places to eat in the west village," we walked over to Aria. The place was packed at 7:30 on a Saturday, but luckily the people in front of us in line decided not to wait. We waited about 15-20 minutes and squeezed over to two seats facing out the windows. I ordered a moscow mule and it was probably the best one I've ever had. The food we ordered was delicious and I love that it's all small, shareable plates! We ordered roasted artichokes, artichoke pesto pasta, tagliatelle bolognese, and spaghetti and meatballs. Everything was absolutely amazing, including the bread and oil!

Great food

By callijo |

We went around 830pm and it was all full but 2 spots at the bar. We sat ordered drinks and food all in good time. The Barbara was delicious. Then bread and olive oil was served. We shared a few appetizers the tuna carpaccio was amazing as well as the crab cakes. Then we shared a few pastas. The wild boar pasta, lasagna & the fungi fettuccini. For dessert we had goat cheese and prosciutto which I highly recommend. For a couple this was a great place as we explored NYC. It was off the beaten path and didn't seem touristy. If you don't like a more crowded place then this isn't for you. We never had a problem hearing each other just sat close to others which is normal in the city. So a definite must try and will return if we ever venture back.

Great food, great location!

By MartinefromQuebec |

Perry Street is fabulous! Try the «burrata» (heart of mozzarella). Delicious! Enjoy the relax and unpretentious lovely place. To go again. And again.

Absolutely Awesome!

By AzCarrera |

This is a Tapas style Italian food restaurant that is absolutely awesome food. Beware though, this is a young crowd <40, and it gets very loud, but in a fun-hip way. I visit NYC monthly and visit Aria every time I come. The food, service & vibe is always great. BTW, make it in early, the specials sometimes run out soon and seats as well.

Lovely place

By Vladislav Filippov |

The first time we visited Aria was a few years ago during our holidays in New York. After I celebrated my birthday with our friends there and it was a love from the first time. Very very tasty, cosy and great atmosphere. And now being in New York we could not not to have a lunch during our walking through West Village. Enjoy, this place is one of the best ones in New York!!

Nice atmosphere. Food is just ok

By AislingMattie |

The atmosphere here is really lovely. Nice buzz to the place with good lighting. But.. We were a group of about eight. We ordered two plates of burrata and prosciutto to share as an appetiser. I took a bite of the burrata at it had clearly gone off. We told the waiter (who was quite rude) and he disappeared without taking the burrata with him. When he came back he said he had checked (checked what??) and it was fine. I said he should taste it as he was mistaken. To be fair, he tasted it, made a face and said we were right. They brought us another burrata and it was better...just. We tried a number of pasta dishes and they were all fine. The wine list was good and I would be happy to come back here for a glass of wine before going for dinner somewhere else.

Excellent service and food

By Jtcruise |

Great restaurant. Food, service and atmosphere top notch. I had the filet of sole - excellent. If you are in the MSG neighborhood, you need to eat here. Excellent coffee and desserts. I can't say enough about it.

Amazing spot in the West Village!

By Vikram S |

Aria has some of the best Italian small plates. Great for large groups or a date. Great location in the west village and a very rustic feel but also has an energetic crowd. I look forward to going back!

Great Find

By Rockrolex |

We had dinner at Aria last night after attending a performance at the Rattlestick Theater. Aria was superb. We had two specials, buratta with tomato and prosciutto and a lobster risotto. We also had (from the menu) white asparagus with prosciutto and orchietta with sausage and broccoli rabe. All were wonderful; the portions were sized nicely. The only thing I might find fault with is the amount of wine in a carafe. We ordered a carafe of chianti and it barely amounted to a little more than one normal glass. On a Thursday night, the place was full and noisy, even when we left at 10:30 PM.

Lively and stylish.

By BirdOfFlight |

We loved this small village restaurant. The food was good and the waitstaff charming. We found the service to be great.

Friday night - it's PACKED

By Annette T |

We did wait about 30 mins for 2 seats at a very packed bar, but the vibe was great. What's kind of cool is that the bar doubles as a table and people actually sit behind the bar with the bartenders to dine..... never seen that before, they are making use of every bit of space. The bread here, YUM. Comes with oil, balsamic, olives. It's a very tapa's like menu. Had the garlic shrimp - good. Avocado, Arugula, Lobster, Grape tomato salad - very fresh. Black truffle mashed potatoes YUMMMMMM!, Brussel Sprouts were just ok, Meatballs were good. I had a Moscow Mule and a really good rose wine. I'd prefer it to be slightly less crowded, but, hey.... it's popular!

Local restaurant, great food

By Carron J |

We have now been to Aria twice in the last week & it may not be our last before heading home to Sydney. It is a local restaurant in the village on Perry Street with fabulous food, great service & a noisy but happy atmosphere. If we had a few more like this in Sydney, you probably wouldn't cook at home. Fresh, tasty & quick. It doesn't matter if you turn up late, the quality is the same. Tonight we returned for dinner after the theatre, & even though we are staying midtown near the theatre district, the cab ride to Aria is more than worth it. Recommend to anyone with a taste for good Italian food.

Good pasta / BAD Service

By Toscan S |

The pasta was good but the service was really bad. The waiter (First name starting with a L) was really pushy. The gratuity was already included in the bill: 20%. But the service would worth 0%. Moreover, while paying by credit card, you can add another tip... This was the final straw.

Bad Service

By resoundings |

Good food except for one badly prepared vegetable that the manager refused to take back or off the bill. The manager was very rude and I have never been to a restaurant in New York where there was a badly prepared dish that the restaurant would not take off the bill or offer another choice. It was the rudeness and hostility of the manager over a $7 vegetable that was disturbing and highly unprofessional.

Enjoyable!

By bimmerny |

While I was just so-so on the wine (but I am a bit of a wine snob), everything else was great. The food was really good, love the broad selection and the service was great. The place is small but packs in as many as they can fit. I would recommend for couples and for groups as the setup can accommodate whatever is needed. Oh and very affordable!

Delicious food and excellent enviroment!

By Mallen |

Stopped in to eat here at the recommendation of my hotel concierge and it did not disappoint! The food is very authentic Italian and the service was excellent. The cocktails are wonderful too! I recommend the lemon one!

Romantic Italian Tapas

By Kel_London1 |

A real neighborhood restaurant/bar. The candlelit room creates a great atmosphere perfect for drinking great wine. It is slightly disappointing how you only get offered a proper wine glass after a certain price of wine bottle, even when spending a large amount on food - the other option is a small child like glass cup. Unnecessary snobbery/pretentiousness. The restaurant should look to address this to improve people’s overall experience. Good food however and overall a pleasant evening spent at Aria.

Best lamb chops ever

By karl g |

I love this place. A real gem in the best area of New York. Great staff, just enough arrogant. Informal, I love to drink wine out of water glasses. I had lamb chops - the best I've ever eaten, simply amazing. Lasagne as main dish was good, but nothing spectacular. Great, great place!

Cute Little Eatery

By Bronnie66 |

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Aria. Great atmosphere, yummy food, with good wine selection, nice neighbourhood.

Great food!

By Aleksandra M |

We were there for late lunch. Pastas are amazing! Coctails also! You just have to try there! Staff is super nice! I think, I'll be back there!

Tasty Italian Comfort Food in Small Plates

By Gabriel M |

Great tapas style shared small plates of delicious Italian comfort food. All the plates are full flavored, pasta is perfectly cooked and the seafood is fresh.

Very tasty good

By TATIANA R |

The reason why I chose this restaurant was because after several days in NY I was slightly tired of overfried bbq staff and variations of smth with bread for the main course. I took polenta with stewed beef and never regretted the choice. Olive oil was great as well as fresh white bread and red wine. Maybe for a hungry man a portion may seem small, but the taste is like that in Italy or France.

Little Italy in Greenwich Village

By Mush3141 |

Aria has a vibrant, hip and bustling atmosphere. The low lighting, closely seated tables all adds to this. There is a beautifully tiled bench that separates both the kitchen and the bar however, on nights where piece of space is a commodity, you could find yourself in the bar or near the kitchen dining - truly in the heart of the action! The food is simple authentic Italian fare. The dates with gorgonzola and wrapped in prosciutto are sublime and the white asparagus with poached egg and pecorino is also delicious. The pasta's portions are perfect and would recommend those where fresh house-made pasta is used - the lobster ravioli with pink vodka was excellent and the risotto of the day also with lobster was creamy and cooked to perfection. The wine list is extensive and is a good range of DOCG Italian wines. Desserts are not their forte and would avoid the coffee. Otherwise a fantastic vibrant Italian spot!

cosy nice place

By ofrapeeri |

in the west village. nice staff and great food. Italian style. acoustics is not the best but wonderful atmosphere. the food is in reasonable price... the wine is a bit costly...

Great from the moment you enter!

By Derek Q |

The best pasta, authentic specials and great wine list, cosy and warm environment, the chatter gets loud but adds to the atmosphere! Definitely will go again

Very good food, too much noise

By 209berts |

The pasta is very good (small portions however). There is a lively atmosphere but there is too much noise to understand each other.

FABULOUS FOOD

By NewcastleFilmmaker |

We came across this lovely restaurant on a Friday lunchtime walking in the Village area having just arrived from the UK. The restaurant has lit trees outside which look great and the decor inside is rustic Italian. The food is brilliant so many great flavour combinations and served on small tapas style plates but very much country Italian in style. One of the nicest lunches I have ever had I cannot recommend this more.

Lively atmosphere and delicious shareable food

By Heather S |

Aria always is packed. A trendy boisterous crowd awaits. Low lighting, tight seating and a lively crowd might be a negative in most instances but not here. Everyone is out on a date or with friends - communal seating and a shareable menu force interaction in a good way. Drinks are small so go for a bottle. Food is fantastic - some of the best I have had. Fun night with good energy make you want to revisit over and over.

Fabulous little wine bar/bistro in the West Village

By Linda H |

I stumbled upon this adorable petite bistro while I was wandering through the West Village on my way back from the new Whitney Museum. It was a very lucky stumble. The service was lightning fast, the wines(there are many) are terrific---made even better by the large pours. my appetizer was beautifully served to me, piping hot in a flash. I could have sat at that bar for the rest of the afternoon. Fresh homemade, warm bread and olive oil were served to me as soon as I sat down. If you sit at the bar, as I did, there is a stunning view of a very pretty red building across the street that I actually photographed. The interior is charming-- bistro style-- and is bright from the natural light streaming into through the large window. If you are in the west village, heck, if you are even close to the west side, run to Aria. It is a lovely little place to wile away the hours, eating and drinking.

Hidden Gem

By IslandDragon |

Great selection of tapas at very reasonable prices (~$8-14 per dish), dish sizes are fair, not big. For splitting between 2 people I would recommend getting 3-4 small dishes. Wine selection was very good, but only a limited cocktail selection. This is hidden away from the tourist areas so much more of a local feel. It is a relatively small place, mainly with 2 person tables or a communal table so if you are coming with a big group I would call ahead. to make sure you can get in. Wait staff able to discuss menu options in detail, but did seem rushed/distracted, glasses were empty fr awhile before refills were offered & we had asked to see a desert menu (twice) and was bought the check instead.

Great food - Poor drinks

By Terrance C |

This is a shame to have to say this as the food was great, but poor quality cocktails and wine let the place down. Rustic look is great and the food so just eat here. Watch out for the waitres that adds service charge to your credit card even after the tip was paid in cash..

Great place

By lukedelves |

Italian restaurant, serve good food although relatively small plates (easily made a decent meal with a side), well priced (14$ main 10$ per glass wine) wine specialists, cosy decor and layout, really nice staff, willing to help and very attentive.

Dinner with friends

By Michel C |

Very good Italian restaurant, all our dishes were well presented and tasty in a pretty decor, we really had a great time.

Recommend

By krys_k |

Immediately knew, from the first glance, that this was the place to eat. Except, my date, she had to check out the other places in the vicinity. We ended up back here 20 minutes later. Modern decor, places to eat at to bar, at the window, shared table or individual tables. Almost open plan kitchen in the corner, barman with a penchant for large measure spirits. The octopus salad was large with huge chunks of octopod, very nicely balanced. The tuna carpaccio came on top of avocado in a small tower, the fish lacked a little flavour. White asparagus with ham was spot on marvellous. The shrimp dish came with just two Crustacea entangled with each other, they were ok enough, but lacked a taste of the sea; and a twin of them was not enough. Good cocktails. Friendly place with plenty of atmosphere, even on a Sunday.

Food ok, very rushed

By michaell1232014 |

I have been staying across from Aria and wanted to try it out but it is always packed. Finally, last night, we were able to get a table so we tried it. I like the small plates and the plate portions were good. However I had a real problem in that they were really rushing us through so there was nothing relaxing about the meal. I can now say I tried it but won't be rushing to return.

Lively little wine bar come restaurant

By BelindaK |

Stumbled upon this friendly and inviting looking wine bar/restaurant on a Monday afternoon walk, and returned later to find the place jumping!! An excellent menu for a light meal, with an affordable wine list, plenty to choose by the glass. We enjoyed sharing some prosciouto, and olives as starters and a pasta dish each as a main. Staff were great. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

Friendly Italian restaurant with the emphasis on fresh authentic cooking in a relaxed and laid back atmosphere

By Peter H |

Just a block or two from Chelsea market this interesting little cafe/restaurant has a great menu with ever so freshly cooked food and a nice range of wines to go with it. Chalk a message on the board in the rest room if you want! Have a prosecco in a small glass jug! Cooking was great and service relaxed.

Great small plates, atmosphere & friendly staff

By Nycnls |

Being a relatively frequent visitor to Aria, i thought i should write the overdue review. We had a dinner celebration for a friends birthday at the downstairs party room and we were not disappointed. The meatballs were phenomenal, calamari, mac & cheese as usual. The staff is friendly, they are relatively loud with the music, but its a great atmosphere to dine here either as a couple or a group! towards the weekend there is a bit of a wait, so if you like to eat here with less wait etc, i would recommend you go here on Monday/tuesday..

Great vibe but not great food.

By J_Bird88 |

This place is super cute, but the food isn't great. Best to just order the tapas and wine, pasta was average. They also bill 20% service into your bill. Watch you don't pay double service.

Poor choice

By JuanPi22 |

Pasta of the day: very bad, in the taste of the sauce (watery, bitter, brothy); and of cooking the pasta (“springs” of package without the slightest grace). Price: expensive for what was Very good staff, does not compensate for poor cuisine.

Wonderful meal of small plates!

By 974knitter |

We went to Aria for the first time and had dinner. We were thrilled to find the small plate options. Amongst the three of us, we had the gnocchi, the mussels, the eggplant/goat cheese rolls and the beets/green beans/feta salad. The latter was wonderfully seasoned. We thought the meal was excellent, the service good, and the location convenient. The specialty drinks were unusual and tasty. This will become a favorite place for us.

Nice local spot

By roadwarrior30 |

Recommended. Small but busy place, popular with young professionals, ot truly Italian but inspired perhaps, small dishes encourage you to try different things and nearly all are shareable. Easy sitting if you're alone at bar area with add'l high top and tables available. It fills quickly nearly every night so go early to secure a choice spot. Reasonable prices and the small dishes ensure you get just the right amount of food.

Eclectic Communal Rustic Urban Wine Bar

By bluelu1951 |

I know the title sound intriguing and this place definitely was. The staff was knowledgeable, fun, and engaging. We found this place after dinner so only had cheese and wine. The selections of both were excellent as were the staff recommendations. All three of us were most impressed with this West Village intimate wine bar.

Nice buzzy restaurant with excellent small plates

By BaffledSpaniels |

Came across Aria (what we call in Europe a bacaro serving small plates of Italian food) while staying in the West Village. The atmosphere was busy and buzzy and you can either sit at a small number of 2/4 seat tables, a large communal table or at the bar. We sat at the bar and had some lovely food - sausage & lentil stew, crostini porchetta, meatballs and the kale & pecorino salad. It was all delicious and the portions were quite large. A short wine list but everything was available by the glass which was great as you can sample different wines. We really enjoyed this place and the service was good.

Great food but terribly rude waiter

By Amypea33 |

We hosted friends and the food was amazing. Unfortunately, the waiter was rude, a bully, passive aggressive and when we stood up to him about his rudeness, he retaliated by spilling water on my friend and spilling food on my second friend. My friend asked for a clean plate and he argued with her telling her it was not his fault the plate was dirty. I had to yell at him, "it doesn't matter whose fault it is just give her a clean plate!" He was a passive aggressive jerk. I would have given it 5 stars if the waiter was not such a jerk. So, if you want great food and don't mind rude, passive aggressive servers, this place is for you!

Trendy wine bar with delectable dishes

By Ernest |

This place is on a nice street in the West Village, a short walk from the river, for that all important after dinner stroll that I recommend whenever you're in this neighborhood. The place is spacious, the staff is friendly, the menu is varied for all types of dietary requirements, and the wine by the glass options are reasonable. Like most wine bars in the city, this place gets loud between 7 and 9:30, so if you want a quiet early drink, or later one, this is the place. If you're cool with the volume, come anytime.

Aria 57

By smiley m |

Late in the evening and looking for a place to eat in the Village. Came across this buzzing place and at first glance there was no space. I love it when a restaurant works hard to get you in rather than avoid extra work. They squeezed us in and in a very busy noisy venue were still attentive and friendly. The beer range was super and my rigatoni was perfectly cooked. The wifes ravioli was amazing. Loved it.

Great food, lively buzz and expensive beer

By Thomas G |

The food was very good. The atmosphere was buzzing but there was no prices on the menu for beers. I had 3 Brooklyn IPAs that cost $30. A third of the price of the bill. Nobody likes surprises like that. T

Simply amazing

By Casparty47 |

What an awesome restaurant to spend the night. Tucked away in Perry Street in downtown Manhattan, its def worth visiting if you're in for a great night out. Indulge yourself in great tapas and first class wines. This small place books out every night (!!) so make sure to book a table up front and get there on time. Very good staff, great selection of drinks - try the actopus salad!! Hint for the ladies: Kerry from SATC lives only a few blocks from here!

Sometimes by accident you come across a real find

By Ciaran M |

Quiet place, which we found by accident when wandering around the area. A very warm welcome from the waiting staff was a good start. The menu was fantastic and the pasta that G and I had were excellent. $16 a plate ($18 with a glass of house wine at lunch time) didn’t break the bank either. The waiter was attentive and even gave us excellent directions to our next destination. Decor was rustic but very well presented. Wine was palatable and the cheapest I’ve had in NYC. Would definitely recommend for a leisurely lunch.

Best tapas in NYC!

By Knightsam |

Aria is a fantastic restaurant in the West Village with a great atmosphere!! The food is absolutely amazing and each time we went we received great service! The lobster risotto was delicious, we would also recommend the mushroom bruschetta! Aria has a great selection of wines by the glass or bottle, all well priced too! We dined their twice in a week and couldn't recommend this place more!

A great pre show dinner!!

By Morgan G |

We found this place on a website when looking for a pre show dinner place and it was just what we needed. Quick and delicious and just enough time to make it to our Broadway show! The pasta is very well made and the Tiramisu was delicious. Highly recommend the Cabernet!!

Great food and service

By calvin40 |

I stumbled upon the place on a recent visit to NY. It is a nice little Italian restaurant with a few tables and a nice bar counter. The service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious. I had the chilly tomato and shrimp pasta which was perfectly done. They offer an extensive wine list and a few draft beers. It would be a good place to go with a few friends or if you are a couple, eat at the bar.

Great service. Small Portions.

By Quills G |

I came here on a double date. The restaurant was packed. We had to sit at the common table which was pretty fun. I enjoyed the food but I think the portions were small. Beyond that I had a great time. Would come back here again and would make reservations again.

Excellent Service and Food

By CanadianCruiseBooker |

Gracious and attentive service made our dining experience so memorable. The Sardine appetizer was the best sardine dish my husband had every tasted... so he ordered a second. The oysters are wonderful and so is the bread served with the meals. I would say that the pastas, while authentic and high quality, are sometimes not what you expect given the description but were all tasty. Beware of verbal specials though.,.. they are often twice the price of anything on the regular menu which I don't think is fair... if every pasta on your menu is below $14 ... Your risotto special should not be $21... unless you mention it. Not a big deal, it was good, but I felt a little ripped off - I probably would have ordered something else as it was slightly under done (less than al dente). Our server was truly outstanding... it is funny because she looked so familiar ... that is because her twin sister works in a restaurant across the street owned by the same people (almost same menu) Truly a class act and there to make your evening perfect.

Too expensive for pasta and risotto

By FNANY |

First time I go to Aria at lunch time + you do not have to deal with the overcrowded, too loud atmosphere you will encounter in the evening + staff had time to wait on my table, possibly too much. - as it is quiet they will push you to get (for lunch) as many dishes as possible - - I had the risotto, a special, it was $28 and was barely warm! Simply not worth it. I mentioned it, no real apologies. Decent place but not worth the money.

Recommended by a Local.

By Murray R |

A buzzy restaurant that apparently is always full. We waited and they squeeze you in (even behind the bar!). It was great fun, noisy and not for a quiet romantic dinner. The food was excellent. We had a special entre which was world class and the pasta of slow cooked beef was superb. Highly recommended. Mid range $

Fun place

By Paolo1005 |

First of all Anastasia who served us was just fantastic..great ambiance in the Italian type tapas and not...I expected smaller portions but they were generous. Prices were fair wine was very good..but the cherry was the service .

Hidden Gem

By GrandeSanJuan |

This is a great tiny, cozy hole in the wall place to go back to often. Even though it seems that everyone is on top of each other, the ambiance, atmosphere and tapas are great, as is the bread. I had a very good bolognese pasta which is supposed to be a tapa but was nearly a full dinner plate. Other tapas are also good and good prices. A place to go back to, indeed. I do not give it the highest review because I never do. Otherwise I would.

Nice Village Vibe

By JoseNelson |

Sometimes you go to a restaurant, have great food but have no intentions to return. Aria is one of those places that you have an urge to come back. That's all I have to say. I can't wait to return. Simply excellent!!!

Delicious!

By Katrina C |

Beautiful, fresh Italian food, nice portions. Busy vibe yet didn't have to queue on a Friday night at 9:30pm (the venue was full though so we may have been lucky, but there was certainly no outrageous queue). Good service with friendly staff. Reasonably priced. I'd recommend sharing a selection of pastas and a few entrees and sides. Perfect for date night or a catch up with friends.

Nice neighborhood Italian restaurants

Very good food in a neighborhood restaurant

By Allan K |

I had a business lunch with a colleague this past week. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased by both the quality and the portions of my lunch. My guest had the kale salad and a shrimp dish while I had the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes and basil along with rigatoni with spicy shrimp. The food was prepared in a timely manner and was very fresh and very tasteful. The prices for the individual dishes were between $10 and $12. I'm looking forward to trying this restaurant for dinner.

GREAT SERVICE, TAPAS STYLE MEALS

Service was fantastic, our server was helpful, knowledgeable and super hospitable. (genie was our waitress). Good appetizers, wine was of a good selection and stock. Reasonably prices, very cozy/ romantic atmosphere.

Amazing

By Em K |

We went to this restaurant after a friend recommended it. It was very busy and they don't take bookings for 2 people so get there by 7:30pm. We had a great warier who knew his stuff. We ordered some oysters, salami and cheese, bruschetta, lamb shank risotto and a bottle of red. Amazing food and so fresh and just the perfect size. The food did come out quick, I thought a bit too quick but it kept my boyfriend happy. Also the bill is very good for what you get. I'll be back. Thank you for a great experience.

Excellent food and great ambience

By HannahB891 |

I was told that I absolutely couldn't pass this place up. It was very good - the drinks were good, the waitstaff was friendly, and the food was excellent. You definitely have to try the mac and cheese, and everything else we got was also very good. I was there a little on the early side of dinner, but I think once it gets later the place probably gets pretty full. It's small and dark inside, so it's an intimate setting for a date, even if it probably does get a bit loud. Gives you a good reason to get close to the person you're with.

Great wine and small plates

By 2-now3-traveladdicts |

We went twice - once for dinner and once for a late night snack. Both times the wine and food were great. Service was good and friendly. It was really noisy when we went back the second time. It was a young, trendy crowd - we felt a little older (mid40s) but the food and wine were great.

Great food & ambiance

Great Italian food with a really nice, cozy atmosphere. There is seating on both sides of the bar and little nooks for 2 to sit in. Food and service was very good.

Rude Intolerable Service

By susannamacomb |

This review is for Roberto Passon, the owner. I live down the block from Aria Wine Bar. My husband and I frequent restaurants of all sorts, including many 4 star Michelin restaurants around the world. We used to come to Aria often, especially when there was this wonderful Russian server there. He was fabulous! Yesterday I suggested Aria to a friend, saying how cute and cozy it was, the food good, and during off hours ---it was 4:30pm--- it would be nice and quiet. In fact, we were the only customers when we entered. We sat by the window with some wine. The music was very loud “Led Zepplin-ish”, so I kindly asked our Italian waiter if he could put on something “piu delicata” --- softer, more delicate. He brushed me off saying that it would change in a while. It did not. So I asked again. Again nothing. This server had an attitude from the get-go. This time we asked another server, explaining that since we were the only ones in the restaurant, why could not the music be changed or lowered? So he did it. We then ordered one risotto. Our server brought two. We told him that we only ordered one. He got indignant. “NO, you said TWO!” My friend said to him, “No, she distinctly said one.” He then said to me—always rudely, “You saw me write two!” To which I responded, “I have no idea what you wrote. I thought you were writing risotto. Besides which without my glasses I can’t see anything you wrote.” With a huff, he said he would take it back. To keep the peace we said , “No worries. We’ll take it.” The risotto was fine, but almost room temperature. We said nothing. We ate. You see, Roberto, the main problem was the attitude problem—the outright rudeness, the lack of hospitality or accommodation and professionalism. When the bill came, each risotto was double the price of the one on the menu. My friend questioned this. The server explained that the special was a different price than the menu. My friend then said, “You should have informed us.” He then looked at me and said, “I thought you knew as you had been here before.” I told him that I had not been there in a year. My friend then asked to speak to a manager. To which the server said, “There is no manager on staff today.” Then it gets from bad to worse, my friend telling him that she did not like his attitude and she will not pay to be so disrespected and he cursed at her in Italian saying “Va fa….o”. I think you know what that means and I think you would agree that no matter what happens that a server should never EVER say that to a customer. Who curses out a customer? This woman is well known international persona. I felt so badly that I brought her to your restaurant. She says that she will never ever eat at Aria again, that she has never been treated like this in her 16 years in NYC. In fact, she is trying to use her connections to speak to you personally about this because another restaurant owner in the neighborhood says that you are a “nice guy” and would want to hear what happened. You have a great place. Why not see to it that you have a great staff? It makes all the difference.

Home cooked Italian food

By Ally_D8 |

This place is small, cute and serves great Italian food at a reasonable price with very attentive service. I went here with 2 friends on a Friday evening and one word of advice is be prepared to queue as I don't think you can book tables here. We were lucky and got seated downstairs straight away but when we left the queue was out the door. Really nice starters and pastas to enjoy here along with a reasonable selection of wines. A nice, hidden gem of NYC...

A piece of Italy in New York

Great pasta served in decent quantities (not too big to overwhelm). Marvelous service. Quite good selection of wines. Will visit this place again and again.

Big flavors, tiny wines

We met a local here for dinner. Service was great, and we had a good time talking with the Italian waiter. This is sort of an Italian tapas restaurant. Really nice décor and feel to the space. Great selection of share-able plates ranging from pastas to vegetables. We ordered a total of 8 plates for 4 of us. Just right. Interesting desserts and good coffees. Something for everyone. A really nice wine list. Our only complaint is that for a wine bar they curiously served all the wines (red, whites etc.) in these small tumblers. There couldn't have been more than 4 ounces. Not a great way to serve a malbec or sangiovese. The per glass price seems reasonable when you get the menu, but probably isn't such a great deal when you consider the miserly size of the wine servings. Overall we thought that this was a place to come back to but maybe think about bringing your own real big-boy wine glass :)!

Fantastic group meal

We were ten people from the UK and had supper at Aria West Village. We had the set meal (no option) but it was absolutely fantastic and we were very glad we did - so many lovely flavours. Attentive, friendly service and delicious and memorable food. Very special evening. Thank you Henri.

Sit in the Cellar downstairs

Ask to sit in the cellar downstairs for a unique experience. A cozy change if your finding most other US restaurants to feel gigantic. Music is very on-trend. Service & Food = great.

We enjoyed it!

Loved the atmosphere at Aria. We did not have a reservation and sat at the bar. We had great service and our food was good. My soup was cold, but I mentioned it and received a new bowl of warm soup immediately. Overall, it was a good experience at Aria.
