Nice local upscale restaurant

By barbara9611 |

The food was amazing. Each plate was prettier than the next. They have mon. - fri specials. Brunch special on weekends. Service was smooth and timely. They have bar seating or table seating. Also reservations via the computer. Had a wonderful meal.

Amazing bolognese sauce

By MichiganMelissa04 |

Our meal here was outstanding. We enjoyed the Prix Fixe menu for just $15 -- just know that it's only offered until 6pm. The bolognese sauce was out of this world, and the tiramisu was the PERFECT portion and was delicious. I wish I lived in the area and this would be my go-to Italian restaurant!

Excellent Dining with Family

A beautiful restaurant on the upper west side. Food - from starters to main dishes were very good all with excellent service and wine list.

Always a fantastic experience. Incredible service from Gabriel at the bar! Beautiful outdoor garden as well. I had the chicken Caesar salad and the white chocolate mousse 🙌

Arte Cafe "Best Kept Dining Secret" on the Upper Westside

By Maxine S |

Arte Café restaurant, left me very impressed with the quality of the foods, drinks, service and spacious atmosphere. Great bar and dining area.

Wonderful pre-Beacon meal!

By CTgirl77 |

My husband and I had dinner at Arte Cafe prior to a show at the Beacon. We loved the restaurant's vibe. And even though it's lively, we had an easy time having a conversation at our table next to the brick wall. We started with the octopus which was one of the best I've had. My husband enjoyed the lamb shank and I loved the eggplant appetizer. We will definitely go back the next time we are in the neighborhood!

Al fresco on a beautiful afternoon

By misspam2015 |

We had a late afternoon lunch on the outside patio . There were four adults and a two year old in our party. A high chair was quickly provided, and we had a table in the corner, so we didn't have to worry about our toddler disturbing other patrons. The food was delicious and our waitress was very friendly and professional. Upon returning to my hotel with my two year old grandson, I realized I had left his sippy cup on our table at Arte Cafe. I called the restaurant, and the cup was delivered to my hotel within an hour!

Restaurant week menu disappointing

By KJDbiz1 |

restaurant week menus are a jump ball in general some places like Masseria on the upper West side, had a fantastic three course menu which we thoroughly enjoyed. for the exact same price $30 for lunch Unfortunately at Arte 2 courses & service was sporadic. I had to go inside at one point to ask for some thing we were seated outside. The menu was significantly limited and unfortunately not very good. My husband had short ribs which had little flavor, and I had San Marzano marinara, which was just a plain tomato sauce on spaghetti noodles. For any need, we had we had to hunt down a waiter. They seemed harried and confused. Overall a very disappointing experience.

We had brunch

By motherJo |

Was here with a meet up group of around 13. Service excellent. It's a very nice upscale cafe. Offering brunch menu with pasta as well as eggs etc. I had pasta Bolognese. Excellent.

Brunch delight

By FloridaGiggy |

Good food, good service and a wonderful place to eat outside when the weather is beautiful, which it was when we were there.

Ordinary, maybe less than ordinary

By marie w |

We ordered chicken Parm, I know we are still in Covid Mode. And help is a problem. The appetizer was cold, but we sucked it up and ate it anyway. The chicken Parm was cold but we sent it back to get warmed up. my family said the Chicken Parm was usually pounded thin and crispy. The sauce was usually a good light sauce. Not so this time. Just the chicken and spaghetti, which I was told was not up to their good standards. No bread No salad, what! with the price and the food was not up to par. The dinner was on the same level as diner food.

So-so food

By Delish45 |

Wrapping up a time in New York City and decided to give this place a try for Friday night. It took a while for the server to speak to us. The food came quite promptly, but was disappointing. We have enjoyed the same dishes other places and all were better. I had veal Marsala and my guest had fettuccine alla bolognese. I wouldn’t go back. There are too many other good Italian restaurant choices in the same price range.

Bright spot on a residential street

By Vicky140 |

Its crisp red awning juts out from a brownstone where two steps down chastely topped, white-clothed tables await. Quality is evident also by stemmed water glasses, fabric napkins, and particularly an extensive menu. Two of our party had the prix fixe lunch, a great value at $18, including mussels among the starters. My main course of fettuccine bolognese could have had more robust, fresher tomato flavor. Chicken piccata looked super good and the pear salad one of us ordered was so elegantly plated, with pear thinly shaved into a rosette, it truly lived up to the art in the restaurant's name, Arte. Orders at other tables also looked very good. The staff was attentive and quickly handled requests. We stayed a fairly long time but never felt rushed. Quite unusually, a small but steady stream of people came in well past the standard lunch hours. Definitely plan to go back and try some other dishes.

An old favorite

We have been going to ARTE CAFE over the past few years several times. In the summer we like to eat in the garden in the back they also have outdoor area in the front near the street. Monday through Friday they serve a very good price fix meal which is from noon until 6 PM. Would like to have dinner there so we arrive prior to six and usually order the price fix. The menu was very enough and there are a few items that you could have such a salmon for five dollars more which is still quite a bargain since the price fix is $15 and that only makes it $20. I’d like to start with the minestrone for my main dish either a pasta with a steak sandwich or sometimes I order the salmon which is always excellent. Lovely dining experience

By Brooklyngal54 |

Nice evening to sit outside . Great choices to choose from on the menu. Something for everyone . Service was wonderful and the food excellent . Portions were appropriate .Prices were very reasonable on the food and wine . The inside was like sitting inside someone's home . Highly recommend !

Nice casual lunch find

By Wrigley the Dog |

We walked by this randomly and got a table with the kids during the week after Christmas. The food was good and the $15 lunch prix fixe was a very good deal (one appetizer, one entree, and tiramisu). The penne bolognese, fried calamari, and meatballs were all good homestyle Italian. Only downside was the service, which was slow and got slower as more diners came in, but I chalk it up to not having enough staff around for a holiday week, when many people were off work.

Excellent place to have lunch/dinner and drinks

By Jewelly004 |

We stumbled upon this restaurant while browsing through the neighborhood after our visit to the Museum of Natural History. The food is amazing! We loved the atmosphere, and service was excellent. You will not be disappointed!

Wow

By Andrew Brown |

Authentic Italian food at its best. We chose the set menu option and had plenty to choose from. The Carbonara was to die for! It’s had some mixed reviews but I can’t find fault with this little gem.

Underwhelmed

By Anna M |

Have had some great experiences prior but had desultory service tonight. Seemed more interested in packing the diners in than providing a dining service to those already seated.

Great bar scene

By skyjoe |

Watching Derla work the bar efficiently and always with a pleasant smile, added to our great food. The lamb stinco (Italian stew) was exceptional and the Saltimbocca was good. The octopus Carpaccio was perfectly prepared. Good wine - fun night

Great value at lunchtime

By NikaJunie |

I had the midweek three course prix-fixe lunch and was amazed that this restaurant could serve such good Italian food for such a low price. My mussels in their shells were quite delicious, served with a rich, buttery broth. For second course I had linguini with mushrooms and it was also very good. My companion ordered meatballs as an appetizer and then combined them with spaghetti with meat sauce to get the spaghetti and meatballs he craved. A small square of excellent tiramisu rounded out the meal. Portions are right-sized for lunch. We had to be somewhat aggressive to get service, even though the dining room was not full. It was also a little too hot inside. That’s a problem that a lot of Upper West Side restaurants have been having this summer. These negatives won’t deter me from coming back, although maybe not until the weather turns cooler.

Sunday Funday!

By Amber B |

Sat at the bar and received exceptional attention from Gabriel! Unlimited mimosas, the most perfect meal plus Sunday football! The bar scene is friendly and animated. The restaurant was also lively and spirted. This restaurant is great for singles, groups, families and the staff is friendly and very attentive! Bellissima!

Amazing neighborhood place 🙂

I have very nice experience at Arte cafe restaurant, the food and service was excellent. I always go back for the chicken parmigiano it’s the BEST EVER!

Dishonesty is not good customer service

By Bab |

We were 11 people wanting to meet at a restaurant to discuss a serious issue so we were looking for a restaurant that wouldn't be too noisy. I made a reservation at Arte cafe after I was assured that we could be seated at a round table in a side room. The reservation was made about three weeks in advance. I called about a week before the reservation to confirm the reservation and the details. I was assured that we would be at a round table and a side room. At 4:30 the day of the reservation, I received a call from the restaurant, confirming the reservation and confirming that we would be seated at a round table in a side room. When we arrived at 7 PM we were told that the side room was closed. The restaurant had set up a long table in the middle of the restaurant. It was so noisy we could barely hear each other. Our complaint was met with a shrug. Like many people who go out for dinner, we didn't go to Arte cafe just to eat food. We went there to see one another. and to have a conversation on a subiect of importance to us. The shrug wasn't helpful. It was a waste of our time and our money. If the restaurant had told us at 4:30 when they confirmed the reservation that they would not be able to honor our arrangements, we would not have gone. They lied to us in order to keep the business. I would not return to a restaurant that disrespects its customers.

Not so great 😕

By Donna B |

Our meal was okay. Salmon ordered by 2 of us was over cooked. We were never offered any bread even though everyone around us had it. We ordered 3 desserts to go only to find out when we got home we only had two of them. Yes, we paid for three. Poor attention to detail.

Great place to eat

By Chengnuo Gu |

We always come here to have dinner as a family, food is always great, service is always on point, and the atmosphere is amazing. Shout out to our server Marco, he’s great!

Average At Best

By Tom M |

This is a neighborhood Italian that disappoints. Too bad, b/c the space is terrific, the location is great for me, and the service is decent. But the food is mediocre. Tomato sauce-meh, oil and garlic sauce- way too much of it and poorly done. Pasta a little over cooked, cheese cake - blah. On the plus side, the salads are large, fresh and nicely done. And reasonably priced.

Traditional Italian, friendly Village spot.

By Charles D |

Wilson or Sharkey will tend to your personal needs. Food is traditional Italian, in a (mostly) quiet setting, except on the busiest nights. Large groups will be accommodated, with individual checks, if requested.

Thanksgiving Disappointment

By Quinonostante |

Thanksgiving in New York, should’ve been so exciting! Our first taste of an American Thanksgiving dinner and likely our last. A warm welcome for sure. Shown into a side room that was more like a canteen. Hard chairs, wobbly table. Waited over 20 minutes to be offered a drink. Food service was dire. Appetisers lacked substance, the teeniest amount of goats cheese. Soup was hearty. They tried to deliver the pasta course whilst the table still had our appetiser plates, there was no room. Server was rude, dropped cutlery, didn’t replace cutlery and expected us to use dirty on next course. Turkey was served ‘luke warm’ and the mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy. There were no accompanying vegetables. They replaced the mashed potatoes for warmer ones, but the mood was ruined. We heard and saw other diners encountering similar problems. Manager did gift us a drink and didn’t charge for one meal that wasn’t eaten. The pumpkin pie was actually a triumph, but if you can’t even mash potatoes there’s gotta be something seriously wrong happening. It was like Fawlty Towers!

Great neighborhood spot on the UWS

By Lauren I |

I have been to Arte Cafe many times for brunch or dinner. There menu has options for everyone, which makes it an ideal spot for groups. Although the menu does not list it, they do offer gluten free pasta which is quite good. I also highly recommend the chicken paillard. It is a great neighborhood spot just off Columbus Ave. The dining room is spacious by NYC standards and you always get a good meal. They also take brunch reservations which most places in the neighborhood do not.

Lovely atmosphere, busy and buzzy but not boisterous

By snooze r |

We had arrived mid afternoon from London and wanted an early meal near to our hotel before jet lag kicked in. We hadn’t reserved but they had a table for 4 at 6pm as a walk in. Lasagne was excellent as was pizza, chicken rigatoni and schnitzel. Service was efficient and friendly. There was a lovely buzz to the place but without being too loud and noisy. Good value.

Warm welcoming environment, solid food!

By Momofhockeyboys |

We ate at Arte Cafe after visiting the Museum of Science. To our surprise, they actually had a very nice Prix Fixe Menu available for $18. The staff was friendly. The food was delicious and portions were a decent size. The alcohol is over-priced, but that is par for the course in NYC. The restaurant had a welcoming, casual, and semi-rustic feel. We would definitely eat there again.

Date Night Secret!

By Auriel G |

Amazing experience, service was super on point, the ambiance made the mood romantic for me and my partner. 10 out of 10 experience. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a date night!

Excellent cuisine and atmosphere

By JPBear99 |

An outstanding New York restaurant with delicious offerings on the menu. The service is very good with all of the hustle and energy of New York

Unbelievable experience

By InĂšs B |

We order the tartufio pizza through delivery.com Had to call the merchant about 6 times to get an update. They mixed up our order on the phone, told us the delivery guy was on his way, actually completely forgot to prepare it. The staff was rude, no commercial gesture at all and 3 long hours wait for a pizza 5 blocks away from our house. Even if the pizza is good, this is not worth it. Never again.

A neighborhood gem with a great happy hour

By jostef75 |

My family has been going to Arte Cafe since they opened ages ago. We have celebrated several large events with large groups, a quick lunch, and many dinners. Last night we went with friends for happy hour and were delighted. Recently, perhaps in the past year, they changed the seating in the bar area and added white high top tables. It was more spacious and it was comfortable. We ate and drank solely off the happy hour menu and enjoyed every dish and probably drank more than we would have had it not been for happy hour (until 7 pm). When we left at 8:15 besides being fully satiated we were all slightly tipsy and very content. And to top it off our waiter, Wilson made the experience even more enjoyable with his jovial demeanor and efficient and not intrusive service. Certainly calls for a happy hour re-do!

Not impressed.

By Mary Ann R |

Not impressed. Although we had a reservation we waited to be seated. Food arrived cold and wait staff was not attentive. Disappointed, I was really looking forward to this place

Friday night family dinner

Arte café is our favorite restaurant on the UWS The food and ambiance are always great - however the best part of the experience is our server Patty !! She is friendly, caring , super efficient and very knowledgeable She knows everyone in the family Thank you

Very fine food, management surprisingly insensitive

By MacDonald KM NYC |

I have the pleasure of eating here at least once a week and dining twice a month. The service is always highly attentive, and the food, very good value. Just had a dinner which featured swordfish possibly the best I've had on this side of town for years. But then as I have said previously about this restaurant, the management seems at odds with providing courteous, welcoming customer experience. While I was unable to pinpoint the source of this lack of customer service attitude, I was just able to pinpoint the restaurant manager Mark who truly suffers from inability to empathize with and serve his patrons. Luckily for those of us who are served by his kitchen and waiters, the food and presentation are very good. But beware if you have to deal with management. I have rarely found such a hostile outlook and inability to deal with customers' comments.

Delicious food and excellent service.

By Suzanne N |

Beautiful ambiance, great service & delicious food. All 5 of us loved our dinners. Presentation was beautiful but more importantly the food delicious! This would be a regular eatery if I lived in NYC

Nice food and atmosphere

By Rachael S |

Loved the eggplant/aubergine starter, was delicious. So was the crab cake. Employees very friendly and the place has a great atmosphere.

Sunday Brunch

By Jmahg |

We had planned to be with friends living in NY and they had booked this very nice restaurant for brunch with champagne. We had to go alone but still had an excellent time as the staff were friendly, efficient and the food, although nothing fancy was well done and tasty. We had champagne with our brunch, eggs with salmon and the one dessert. It was very reasonably priced and I we will return if we are in NY again at the weekend. Recommend.

Very traditional Italian restaurant. Great food.

By Pjlewis63 |

Fried zucchini “chips” weee a great start. The Funghi pizza was very good. Crust was nice and thin as it should be in an Italian restaurant. Spaghetti pomodorro was great. Freshly made spaghetti. Sauce was excellent. This place is not far from Central Park , and is only a couple of blocks from Broadway (north end).

Great restaurant!

By Anna L |

What an amazing experience. We had our wedding reception at Arte Café about 2 months ago and the guests still talk about how amazing the food was and how generous the portions were. We planned a wedding reception in 2020 but after COVID hit we had to postpone a year. Marco was amazing in helping us plan the menu and rebooking us a year out. When we did have our reception it was amazing
the food, the atmosphere, the service, all top notch! We could not have been more thrilled with how everything turned out and how accommodating the whole Arte Café crew was throughout the process. I would highly recommend them for any event where you want great food and atmosphere that leaves lasting impression. Thank you again Arte Café for making our special day that much more special!!

Manager Carlos Shameful Lies and Lack Of Care for Our Veterans

By Gabi M |

Here I am, just a customer looking after one of our veteran seniors, and getting him a hot dinner during this times of Covid. It seems that there is no great business for ARTE CAFE in a hot pasta meal that is under $20 that must be delivered, although just to 71st St. Delivery seems to be an inconvenience for this ARTE CAFE. Manager seems very relucted taking an order for delivery. Yet, when I called the ARTE CAFE at 4 PM, Carlos, the manager, asked that for deliveries I called after 5 PM. So I did, the manager took my order over the phone, and was very rude to me when he corrected me for requesting pasta instead of spaghetti. I did tell him, next time I will know that. He confirmed food will be delivered by 5.30 PM. So, I called Theo, my 95 veteran friend, letting him know when to expect the food. I should mention that I live in Downtown Jersey City, thus the need for the delivery. On this Nov. 29th, at 6 PM, Theo called me back letting me know no food was delivered. I called the restaurant, Carlos, same man I spoke with at 4 PM and at 5 PM answered. It appears that Carlos is the manager at this place - as I found out later from a lady receptionist there. Unfortunately, Carlos answered to my inquiry on the food delivery status by stating that he doesn't know what food I was talking about; that he is looking into the system and that there is no order under my phone number, and that he and I have never spoken and no order was ever placed there. A normal status inquiry an hour later, in a very bizarre way transformed into a movie scene. All I was concerned about was getting this 95 year old veteran his hot meal-dinner if that meant replacing the order again and asking for reassurance on delivery. Instead, manager Carlos was just steering the conversation into an argument, stating there in no order in the system, insisting I imagined calling his ARTE CAFE Restaurant, denying we ever spoke, when he and I actually spoke twice - as I could recognize his voice, and he was particularly rude to me in terms of telling me that I should ask correctly for spaghetti not pasta. As I insisted to get this dinner, letting him know my 95 years old veteran friend loved ARTE CAFE's spaghetti; so, he requested I provided him with the delivery address again. While he was inserting the address into the system (again - he stated he needed to refresh everything) and asked for my name, I also asked for his name, and that was when the call dropped. I dialed the number back, this time a woman answered and asked me if she can help me. I let her knew I was in the middle of replacing delivery address into the system and after that re-order with the manager, but phone got disconnected before he changed the address so I asked to talk to him and if she could also tell me his name. She responded his name was Carlos, and that he is no longer available for the call. This mess was just too much, so I said that I don't need anything no longer. Speaking with a manager who is taking no responsibility for un undelivered food service, who instead has no shame lying to your face that you never phoned, that he never placed an order for you, then dropped the call when I asked for his name, then did not take the call back... it was just a bit too much to "digest". So, I checked my AMEX card, and there it was, the very clear pending bill from ARTE CAFE. So, if I never phoned and he veber placed an order, thus no food was delivered, then how can one explain the bill? We are going through very rough times, this pandemic affected our seniors in senior houses the hardest. This pandemic affected restaurant businesses directly, too. But this pandemic should teach us about coming together and looking after each other if we want each other's support. How can I explain this ARTE CAFE manager's behavior? I am ordering from Il Violino now. But, that night Theo did not get his meal. Carlos took care of that.

Good Lunch menu value!

By steitel |

Down to earth good Italian cuisine at reasonable prices near Columbus Avenue. Could be noisy in the evening..

Traditional and good Italian food

By Jack E |

We recently dined here, were seated promptly and had a very good experience. The atmosphere is a bit hectic, but the food was terrific. I had a fettuccine bolognese which was prepared perfectly a dente and my wife's cod special was excellent. We noticed that the service was a bit slow (the restaurant was mobbed) and discussed it some amongst ourselves but did not complain at all. The waiter then came over and apologized for the service and bought us a round of drinks. This unexpected act did not go unnoticed. If you are looking for Italian cuisine on the west side, I highly recommend it.

So so

By Rocky S |

Tables were cramped so when I moved an inch, it banged the guy behind me who flared as if I committed a crime. That aside, the food is just ‘ok’. Nothing special. Chicken parm had not so good quality chicken pieced together and glued with crust. Salad small for 12.50. But service pretty bad - they’re understaffed. I’d go back, but not enthusiastically.

The art of Arte Café

By Easy508th |

Delicious is an understatement! The food, the service and the atmosphere all combine to make this a delightful dining experience. I requested a special dish and they were too happy to make it for me! Not only that, it was absolutely delicious! We were fortunate enough to meet celebrity chef and owner Kristin Sollenne and she was an absolute gem. I cannot recommend Arte Café enough! It is amazing!

Good food and good murals

By leidenaar |

The excellent food is complimented by the murals revealing New York in the 20's and 30's. Good food and excellent service adds to the pleasure

Front of house lovely, side room not quite so

By D1457GYsteve |

We visited on Christmas Eve 2017. We had reserved a table for 1930 when it was mostly empty and it was unsurprisingly full by dining time. We were taken from cool sophisticated main room into a low ceilinged side room, which was noisy with large family groups, all Italian - fantastic. The food was expensive and only okay. Hot and spicy sausage in ‘pink sauce’ was correct only in being in pink sauce. Salmon was nicely cooked. Steak was pronounced okay. All was over described. We were lured into a warm and cosy candlelit diner with a cocktail bar and ended up in a large, noisy, side room. If we had known that, would not have made the booking. Very good service with loads of waiting staff. $108 plus tip for three people, one course each and two glasses of wine? Rip off.

We really wanted to love it

By TheSecretVagabond |

Located on 73rd between Amsterdam and Columbus, this is a charming spot on a residential street. I’ve wanted to try it here for a while and we finally had the chance. The weather was perfect to dine al fresco. I made a reservation on Open Table, asking to sit outside. Upon arrival, I was told outdoor seating was first come, first serve. It wasn’t crowded so we got a table that we wanted. There’s also a nice outdoor space out back. The interior atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. We ordered a salad and fried zucchini to start. It took 15 minutes to get to the table, and then we were given the wrong appetizer. Some of the lettuce was brown. It took another 20 minutes for the correct appetizer to be delivered. I had to ask twice. No one checked on us. Our pasta dishes were mediocre. Service was slow. While no one was unpleasant, no one was warm and welcoming. Sad to say we’d neither return nor recommend.

great service

By youngwiter |

I will definitely come back, "Arte Cafe" is really a great sport! The drinks and service were fantastic. It is an ideal place for a quick refreshment with friends and family, even several times a week. The food is good and the service has always been reliable. Arte Cofe is highly recommended

Extraordinary restaurant experience! I recommend a highly!! I recommend a highly!

Every aspect of each food was extraordinarily prepared. Totally delicious!!!And the staff is fun and kind! Loved it :-)

Great italian in the UWS

By skyjoe |

We're had cacio e pepe which was authentic Roman. The minestrone was delicious for that cold day walking in NY. The bread was very good too, and great service. Great place to visit when in the UWS.

Wonderful find on the Upper West Side! This restaurant deserves to be rated much higher!

By wannatravelnow |

This cafe is a wonderful find with a great atmosphere and delicious food! The place is very nicely decorated and has several different rooms to eat in. It is much bigger than it appears on the outside. The menu is very reasonable, especially for the neighborhood and had many good choices. My husband and I shared the Vanilla brioche french toast with apple caramel sauce which was absolutely delicious and the mushroom frittata with carmelized shallots and bacon which was also excellent. There were six of us for brunch and everyone loved their dishes. I tasted the crab benedict from my daughter and it was also delicious! If you are in the neighborhood I would highly recommend this place. It also takes reservations and the staff was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back to this gem!

Poor Service & Awful Table

By madv55 |

We had a reservation before a show that we were going to at The Beacon Theatre. 2 of the 4 of us were 15 minutes early, the other 2 were parking. There were many tables available when the first 2 arrived in the Primary seating area with a lot of Ambiance, but they would not seat us until the other 2 arrived! They told us to sit at the bar and wait...and not in a nice tone! The other couple arrived about 3 minutes after our reservation and at this point, all of the good tables were gone and they put us in a Back Area that I've never seen before (I've been to Arte Cafe twice before) They put us at a table all the way in the corner with very little lighting, to the point of needing to use the flashlights on our cell phones to read the Menu! We waited forever and the food did not taste fresh! The waiter was surly and only got a little nice when we were leaving I will never go back. We were treated disrespectfully almost to the point of rude. I should mention that the show was at 8:00PM and our reservation was either 5:45 or 6 and because they were so slow, we just about made it to the Beacon Theatre on time for Cyndi Lauper's Benefit Concert! Horrible and Expensive Experience!

Great Food, Great Service

By Alexis S |

Lovely Friday evening in the Upper West Side. Great food and ambiance, especially with the Christmas decorations; Marco provided great service! Good neighborhood spot

Would not eat at Arte again as tipping of 20% is automatically added to bill of 4 people.

By jen |

Had a lovely evening with one other couple. (4 people). When I asked for the bill, they had included a 20% tip on the bill. When the waiter handed me the credit card machine it suggested further tipping. Classless to say the least. I can understand adding a tip to a bill of 8 or more people. I would have tipped 20% but it is MY prerogative not the resturants. I will not eat here again or suggest it to anyone else.

Excellent food and service

By Verity |

Excellent food and service. Tables were a bit close together, but that's Manhattan. The broccoli rabe was particularly good.

Best Italian Spot on Upper West

By Anna B |

My favorite spot on Upper West Side!! Jot only its affordable it’s also very delicious!! Get their pizza or pasta - it’s so good! AmazIng unlimited bruch drinks deal on weekends! Staff is super friendly! Highly recommend!

Charming, Fabulous patio and Great food.

By Kac |

We stopped in after the theater for a quick bite and glass of wine. They could not have been more accommodating. It was a warm late night and we enjoyed the patio very much. We had a couple of appetizers and red wine and the manager gave us a sample of a delicious vodka-orange juice-mango-sherbet glass of heaven. Yum. They were so friendly, helpful and concerned about our happiness and satisfaction. I'd go back there in a heartbeat. You should try them.

Par Ecellance!

The salmon and other food was excellent. Service superb and cleaniness outstanding! I only wish other restaurants could do the same. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Will be back.

By wendy s |

Marco took great care of us. The food was fabulous. The restaurant gives free dessert and limoncello. Chicken is organic free range.

Dinner before a show

By Gary B |

Really enjoyed the grilled octopus and the crab cakes were wonderful. Kale salad was good. Pizza was good. Will go back for a full dinner.

UWS Gem

By Jess |

What a fantastic gem of the Upper West Side. The vibe is neighbor-hoodie and the food is traditional. But what makes Atre stand out is the service. They are polite, knowledgeable, and friendly which makes stopping here feel like eating at your regular haunt. Not to be missed

Great food and great atmosphere

By Mary C |

Everything was great. Food was delicious, everything from the appetizers to the desserts! Will definitely be back again.

Always the move!

By Peter D |

The absolute best place on the UWS for intimate or group gatherings. Whether its a reservation or on the fly, they are so accommodating and the food is always on point. Maria, Ian and Lesley always brighten up my day ✹✹ Cant wait to be back :)

There are much better restaurants

By Ziv E |

Order food for delivery and received discussing I’ve cold. Frozen pizza is better than what they have. Try contacting them with no respond. In NYC you have so much better options.

Worst Meatballs Ever!

Just finished eating a delivery order from Arte - Spaghetti and Meatballs - The worst meatballs I've ever had - overcooked, dense, hard little stones. The spaghetti was slightly over cooked and it was clumped up on the plate so there were some strands of spaghetti and some large clumps of spaghetti.

Wedding Brunch / Reception

By ateacher1 |

Our daughters wedding reception/ brunch was held at Arte Cafe. We loved the location because it was within walking distance from her wedding site in Central Park. I bombarded Marc ( the manager) with emails about details( changing menus, changing numbers of guests, changing rooms ) for months in advance. He always told me- don't worry, it will be awesome! And it was! The food -we had a fixed variety menu to offer our guests- was great. Our guest had drinks in hand promptly! Location, food, drinks, price, service = PERFECT reception! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a meal or a special event!

Outstanding Farewell Party

By theoneandonlyArnold |

We had our recent farewell party with around 35 friends at Arte Cafe in the patio. The entire experience was outstanding! Planning, last minute changes, back and forward due to the recent smoke issue in NYC, food, drinks, service staff
. Mega flexibility from Arte cafe team! Our friends and us were simply impressed! Many thanks Arte Cafe, you made it a memorable farewell from our beloved NYC đŸ—œ

Good honest food and lots of local flavor

By IzPoti |

We were attracted by the $15 three-course lunch menu posted on the sidewalk outside, but what we really loved about the place was eating with locals and pretending we were not tourists. The portions were so plentiful we walked out with doggie bags. The service was lovely, the wine by the glass generous. We come from Montreal where in restaurants a glass of wine means a thimble of wine.

Love arte café

The service is impeccable, with an attentive and well-trained staff who know how to offer personalized recommendations according to the tastes of each client. Whether for a quick stop or a quiet afternoon,

"A Hidden Gem Worth Discovering!"

Absolutely loved my visit! The location was stunning, the staff went above and beyond, and the overall experience was seamless. A hidden gem worth every moment—can’t wait to return!

A new go to place on the UWS to add to the list

By NYFoodDude |

Went to Arte Cafe after reading reviews. We were quite pleased. The food was tasty, service was good. We sampled alot of the menu and enjoyed every dish. Two bottles of wine, suggested by the waiter, were very good too. No complaints at all. A very enjoyable evening.

Great Dinner Date!

This restaurant is perfect for a dinner date! The lighting and decor is warm and the waitstaff is wonderful! The appetizers and main courses were delicious as well as the bread!! (loveee the small bottle of olive oil)

They Just Got It Right

By Dennis F |

This was our first visit. And I don't usually do a review after just one. But this place deserves immediate mention. The ambience is on point with the character of the restaurant and the marvelous cuisine. Our party of 5 picked different entrees and each was totally satisfied, even impressed. Service was attentive and responsive without hovering. I like that. The food was more than excellent, let's say outstanding. I have eaten at other spots in this neighborhood but this stands head and shoulders above most of them. We will definitely be returning.

Superb resturant in the old style

By S Brooks |

The food is what you expect from an exelent Italion resturant. Muscles in garlic and oil and fried Calimari with Marinara sauce for opeeners. Enteries of equal interest. Price fixed Lunch includes desert. Try it, you will like it.

Always good

By rlee2000 |

When in doubt my wife and I dine at Arte Cafe when we are in Manhattan. We went this past Thursday before heading down to Broadway for a show and we were not disappointed. I had a Parma pizza with cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, arugula, and parmigiana. The crust was crispy and the pizza was very good. My wife enjoyed a pasta dish with squid ink linguine and seafood. The service was excellent. Highly recommend.

Incredible!

Amazing service from Max! We are having our wedding here in June and were so excited to finally visit in person. The meatballs were incredible and the service was top-notch.

Hit or Miss

By NYTrendies |

Unfortunately, it was a miss! We took a friend there for his birthday. Even though we specified that we were celebrating a birthday, there was no mention or acknowledgement of that by any staff. Not sure the reason Open Table even asks if a dinner reservation is for a special occasion if the restaurant is going to ignore it. The waiter looked bored and the service (if you can call it that) was severely lacking. We informed the waiter that we wanted the food brought out hot and would send it back (as we had in the past) if it was not. His serious response was, "the salad too?". After our appetizers and salad, the food arrived. Our friend's dish was hot, but my wife and I had to send our dishes back because they were lukewarm. Once again, the dishes came out lukewarm. We called for the manager. He took the dishes away and later returned, this time with hot food. There was no apology for the inconvenience. The manager never returned to ask if everything was ok, never offered us a dessert on the house or an after dinner drink due to the problems we encountered. The General Manager, Marco, was not there at the time. It seems that when he is not present, service really suffers. There are too many good Italian Resturants in the neighborhood to waste our time with one that is mismanaged when the boss is off premises.

Great Italian food

By barbarabihalovics |

I have been there several times, for both brunch and dinner, and I'm never disappointed. They have great prices, and amazing meals. My favorites are the Fungi Pizza or any of the pasta dishes, especially the gnocchi! A great spot to visit with friends or family! A hidden gem on the Upper West Side, just walking distance from Central Park!

Yummy

I've bee going to the Arte Cafe for many years, it's as good today as it was 15 years ago. The lunch special is great, dinner is delicious. I would recommend you try it.

Valentines Day

By cjzartist |

Made a resvation for Valentines day and was assured that their early bird special was available that day. We asked twice since we know that there are special menus on Valentines day and was assured that it was in effect. Well that was not the case and we spoke to the manager who said it wasn't available and asked who told us that it was. We called the restaurant to make the reservation so obviously it was whoever handles the reservations. We were disappointed and were willing to spend more on the meal than we wanted to being that it was Valentines Day and we wanted to have a nice evening. Then this rude manager has the nerve to ask why we didn't speak to the manager when we called for a reservation. Why would anybody ask for a manager when you're told twice not to worry about the early menu being available ? We've been to this restaurant at least 25 times over the years and never had a problem and enjoy the food but to be made to feel like we did something wrong when we made the reservation is just plain nasty and unprofessional. The manager could have been a bit more gracious and offered us an apology and maybe a complimentary desert rather make us feel like it was our fault for the mix up. He ruined our Valentine diner as we decided to leave rather than give them our business and I'm not sure if I want to go back in the future. I see that other customers have had problems with the manager. Always had a nice time there. To bad the owners are more attentive to the customers.

Hidden gem UWS

By joewally1 |

Excellent atmosphere, food , drinks and staff. Preserved a bunch of pizzas to share. Stumbled upon this place with friends. Did not disappoint!!

A Dark experience.

By viscontiNYC |

So dark. Lights have been dimmed to the point of being uncomfortable. It looks like a cocktail lounge with a menu and a clientele far from the lounge types. Intimate is nice. Romantic is nice. But truly dark? Plain uncomfortable. I’ll go back when they turn on the lights again

Late dinner find

By pickygirl13 |

My husband and I were walking around the Upper West side looking for a nice place for dinner. We stopped in and very glad we did. We had a great meal, nice wine. Great find.

Shame on them!!

By shadow106 |

Shame on them!! If you have no particular food allergy or intolerance or other dietary requirement, I suppose it is probably fine enough if you eat here. But if you have any kind of special dietary need at all then run, don't walk, in the other direction. I was extremely clear with my server about what I could not eat and what should not be on my plate, and don't you know it was on there. The food runner dropped my plate in front of me and left, the server who took my original order was nowhere to be found, and so we flagged down the restaurant manager, who belittled me and made light of my food allergy. When I insisted, he took my plate back into the kitchen and returned with a cold piece of fish and cold vegetables. I was with quite a few other people and was hungry, so I ate it, yes it was edible, but barely. They did not adjust the check in any way. When we left, we spoke to the manager, who again tried to blame me, gave a lip service apology, not a genuine one. What ever happened to the customer is always right? What ever happened to concern for a customer’s food allergies? Clearly not at this place. This was appalling!

Great Italian Foid

By ross5100 |

I had the $15 Prix fixe early bird, before 6 weekday, dinner. What a fantastic meal and a fantastic deal. Everything was delicious and nicely served. A real find.

never go here.

By Freedom38614809910 |

My partner and I booked the pre-fixe Thanksgiving dinner expecting to dine in the main restaurant, especially since he had been before and raved about the food and atmosphere. Instead, we were taken OUTSIDE IN THE WINTER to a completely different location and space that resembled an overflow bar or temporary dining room, bright overhead lighting, no ambiance, and a noticeable fresh paint smell that was hard to ignore. I'm not kidding when I say I'm from Wisconsin and I've seen nicer dive bars. We asked multiple times to be seated in the actual dining room we made the reservation for, but were told it wasn’t possible even though we SAW an open table. Unfortunately, the food in this setup tasted NOTHING like what the restaurant is known for. Everything felt lower quality, rushed, and NOT worth the price of the pre-fixe. Service was also disappointing. Our server was curt, and as we gave the bad tip (14% still), she WALKED AWAY and never said thank you, so then we asked for a pen, to which she gave it, didn't say a word, and walked away (insane). She had black long hair in a braid, didn't get her name, she said maybe 4 words the whole time. And I used to work at a 5 star restaurant, I KNOW how service is SUPPOSED to be. Overall the entire staff was unfriendly, which added to an already frustrating experience. We would have left but its was Thanksgiving and nothing in the radius had dinner spots left. Ruined our entire night. This was not the Thanksgiving dinner or environment we booked or expected, and it didn’t reflect the standard of the main restaurant at all. We will never be returning, and suggest you don't either (don't waste your money, there so way too many great restaurants in this city to waste your money here).

Dinner with friends

By Jeremy T |

I was walking around the city with a friend who has come in from Los Angeles, it was early and we were hungry, so I thought I would try ARTE Cafe and was delighted to find they had a prix fixe menu if you get there before six which we did. I started with the Caesar salad, my main course was the salmon, finished with lemon sorbet. All very good. We also ordered A bottle of wine for $20 which was part of the special, all a very good deal. Service was excellent and I find this restaurant to be very attractive.

Arte Cafe "Best" meal deal on the Upper Westside.

By Maxine S |

Arte Café is still consistent with quality foods and service. All meals are prepared fresh. I really liked the fact, that meals upon request can be prepared without salt. The best happy hour prices under ($10) for bar foods and beverages. My fav is the (3) course dinner for less than $20 from noon to six.

Great Italian Cuisine

By MaraS2018 |

Arte Cafe has been a longtime favorite and is tucked away on the Upper West Side. Best known for Italian food they've got wonderful lunch specials. I was last there on Christmas Day. I had a Lobster and pasta paired with a glass of Sancerre. The price was amazing so was the ambiance.

Perfect spot!

By Traci K |

Perfect venue for a holiday party! Great drinks, spacious room, and delicious food! The marinara pizza is great with a sprinkle of sea salt.

Great Before A Show!

By Hazel |

Visited before a show at the Triad theater. The thin crust pizza with buffalo mozzarella was very good with crispy crust. My spinach and cheese filled tortelli was divine! Fresh pasta on a cold night is always the way to go. The next time we go we'll make reservations, as it got crowded quickly.

Good food, lousy service

By RyanDavis21 |

I was there with a group of seven for lunch. We told our waiter up front that we needed to pay separately. He told us he was still going to put things on one bill and could separate it. The food was very good, but overpriced for what you got. When we got our bill, he did not want to split it, even though we had told him it needed to be. For the next 20 minutes we were treated very rudely by the staff as they slowly worked to split the check. They were very rude when we walked out the door, even though we were very patient to them other than needing the bill split, as we had asked at the very beginning.

Good atmosphere, good drinks

By tian s |

Was here with friends for a late night drink. We each got a different drink, the lychee cocktail (can't remember what is was called) was particularly good. Also, got some fried calamari with tomato sauce, for the table, and that was also good.

An Honest Review

By Len S |

After reading some of the bad reviews of Arte Café I was a little unsure how we would like it. We had a great time, the food was very good and the service was excellent. We had our choice of sitting inside or outside. The manager (or owner) came by a few times to make sure everything was to our liking. It was a little dark in the restaurant which made it hard to see the menu but after ordering it really didn't matter. I was expecting to pay well over $100 for the two of us but was surprised at how reasonable the bill was.

Poor management does not overcome Good service--but it's close!

By MacDonald KM NYC |

Live in the neighborhood and have been eating here regularly for their very fine value lunch. Attractive space, good hours, and delicious food. But, very recently despite an extremely personable waiter, who would be a success anywhere in the city, I watched his performance be overruled by his manager and was served something I didn't order at 3x the price it was worth. The waiter asked me not to complain, and the manager was mad at the waiter for not being specific enough. When the object is to please the client, and the waiter excelled, if the manager intervenes inappropriately the restaurant loses.

Good value.

By Margie C |

Spaghetti that accompanied my chicken parm was really good. The chicken wasn't cooked as I had requested -- very well done. The mozz factor was pretty skimpy. The pear salad is gorgeous. The strawberry salad was wonderful. The steak was very good. The drinks are generous. Excellent service. Prix fixe lunch up until 6pm is a terrific buy.

Terrible

By TXTN59 |

Dinner experience on a weeknight was terrible. Very noisy. Negligent service. Waited a long time for everything (ordering and receiving), and when entrees arrived 1 of 3 was missing. It arrived 20 minutes later. Will not return.

Cozy place on a cold night

By lfn55 |

We had a great meal here after a very cold and long walk in the city. The service is good and the food was very good. Veal parmesan and eggplant were favorites with our group.

10/10 experience!

By Jocelyn K |

This was such a cute little date spot! The food was amazing and the service was wonderful. We got spicy rigatoni vodka and the chicken parm which were both must gets. Maria was our server and she was on top of it all night. Definitely recommend checking this spot out!

You MUST go see for yourselves

By Frank H |

Wandered through Central Park , checked out the Boathouse for lunch as we had been a few years back , place seemed a bit cold and unwelcoming . We headed on and found this place .and boy what a find , the 3 course lunch menu was less than a starter at the boathouse, not that I'm using there as a yardstick,as here would out strip it. the food was first class , the staff a credit to the restaurant.

Fantastic food, fantastic ambience

By MaraS2018 |

I've been a fan of Arte Cafe for many years now, and it just seems to get better. The staff is congenial, the seating is wonderful and the food is amazing especially if you like Italian food. The atmosphere is very important to me because I tend to do a lot of solo dining, so feeling welcomed and treated equally as any other table is very important to me. It's Christmas day and I had a beautiful seafood pasta dish with Savignon Blanc, it did not disappoint. The prices are fair, the seafood is fresh and the pasta was delicious. Don't miss this on your trip to New York.

What a deal!

By Dobbstraveler |

We were going to a performance starting at 7:00 so we needed to have an early dinner. Arte Café, not far from the theater, seemed a good choice because we've enjoyed it whenever we've eaten there. When we arrived there was a sign outside announcing their special prix fixe 3-course meal for $15 from noon to 6:00. In Manhattan! Unheard of! There must be a catch: few choices, small portions. But no; good choices for appetizer and entree, so we went with it. The portions were extremely generous and the food really good, especially the fettuccine with three mushroom sauce. The dessert is tiramisu. No choice. Fair enough!

Forever a disappointment...

By dap31489 |

We live in the neighborhood and have for years, so we are quite familiar with Arte Cafe. It never ceases to amaze me at how much potential this place has, and how it falls SO short every.single.time. Space is a commodity in this city and they have such a huge advantage of not only have probably the largest bar on the UWS, but also an enormous dining space, outdoor garden in the back AND half of the street for their outdoor dining. Despite this, the place is managed so terribly and every time I leave this restaurant I'm reminded why I rarely frequent it. Today, I went there as I had family in town. I made a reservation for 4 people for their outdoor dining street-side. The reservation offered this option, so it was specified. It was for 4pm, so not exactly a peak time. I arrive at the restaurant and there is a handful of employees in the bar area, and perhaps 2-3 tables seated inside with a small group at the bar. None of the employees acknowledge that we are waiting at the host stand, despite all of them making eye contact. I proceed to walk up to two employees and ask for a hostess. One of the girls comes up to the stand and gives me, quite literally, the third degree about having a reservation, despite me repeating the details fifteen times and the restaurant being empty. Bizarre. We proceed to be seated outside and over the course of the next two hours we received the slowest service of all time (with a staff to patron ratio of probably 8:1). We ordered cocktails, which we had to walk inside and ask for after waiting 30 minutes while they sat on the bar in plain view. We ordered Aperol Spritzes, which is quite possibly the most basic Italian cocktail (especially for a restaurant donning Aperol umbrellas and paraphernalia all over), and we were brought some concoction of perhaps Campari and prosecco? I mentioned this to the waiter, as the drink was clearly dark red and not bright orange and tasted nothing like a spritz, and he went back inside to get new ones. He brings back out the EXACT same drink, just mixed up with more oranges? I was going to ask to see the bottle of Aperol, as I know there was 0% chance they actually had any behind the bar, but I was with family and didn't want to be difficult as they were short on time. We had to ask for our entrees after probably an hour, despite the restaurant being empty at 4pm. We then asked for to-go containers THREE times, and they were never brought out. We finally ended up leaving, out of exasperation. It's remarkable how this place succeeds with such terrible management/training and service. Pre-covid we would come here often for drinks after work, but the bartender was so incredibly unfriendly that we stopped going as we just could not justify UWS prices for that kind of atmosphere. It's quite a shame given they have such a prime location and again, tons of potential. I feel like this is one of those places that just cuts about every corner thinking customers won't notice, but as the saying goes, the devil is in the details. The one redeeming thing about this place is that their food is good (not great), so there's that. Overall, however, a huge disappointment.

Party of seven. Service was a little slow in the beginning but picked up. The food was delicious. Everyone cleaned their plates.

Perfection

By Brooke2222 |

We came here for a Christmas party very last minute. There were at least 30 of us! Everyone in the restaurant was more than accommodating. The drinks and the food were fabulous. We had different types of pizzas and guacamole and chips. The service was above and beyond. We will be planning our parties here from now on that’s for sure!! Such a spacious bar area! They were incredible! Seriously pulled off a fabulous party for us so last minute. Thank you!

Filthy, wet bathroom, and horrible service particularly by Luciano.

By histoirerouge |

Horrible service and very greasy food. Luciano was extremely unpleasant when asked to address this. He didn’t replace or refund the food, which wasn’t eaten. Staff does not create a good customer experience. Arte CafĂ© has been cited by the health department for several issues. See screenshot below. Bathroom was dirty and floor wet when I arrived and still dirty and wet many hours later when I was leaving the restaurant. Do not recommend this overpriced and overrated location,

Quite good surprise

By theoneandonlyArnold |

Walked in the area on 12/24 afternoon and looked for a bite. There was an empty street side seating area and we wondered if the place is open. Surprisingly they have a very nice and warm courtyard, not visible from the outside, which was little busy. Service was fast and food was outstanding (pasta, salad, octopus). Will definitely be back as the place seems to be good for outdoor dining even in reasonable winter weather

Great food and atmosphere

By M0V1 |

We had a great meal. We just wanted some good Italian food and we weren’t disappointed. I’m a vegan and the waiter was very careful to make sure no cheese was used on my pasta. Really appreciated this. The pear salad was out of this world. My husband had the chicken parm and he wasn’t disappointed. We were staying on the upper west side and this was a very convenient location. Highly recommend.

Had a great time here with a party of 5 - I was very satisfied with the Pollo Pazzo. Plenty of italian vibes, the environment is relaxed and the food is great. Only criticism is that the food was slow to be delivered, however the rest of the service was perfectly find.

Another great pizza

By d0ndequiera |

Arte Cafe has really good pizza. I was actually surprised at how good it was. We had a really nice wine (a primitivo), pizza, and salads and everything was good. It's on a quiet stretch of 73rd (mostly residential) and a great area for going for a walk after dinner. Service was friendly as well.

ARTE CAFE STILL SPLENDID----EVEN DURING THE CRISIS

By VKMc |

HERE WE ARE in the Corona Virus Crisis, but I still want the excellent SALMON from the ARTE CAFE right around the corner. Can you believe--I'm a Grandma & I've never yet in my life ordered take-out?!?! I'm so behind the timeI BUT THIS WAS FABULOUS! And the beauty of it was the familiarity---the familiar Caesar Salad dressing & all those fresh cheese shavings on top. And the familiar & splendidly marketed SALMON. Hm! So good at Arte Cafe. And I was a NEWBIE to GrubHub---but it worked quite well. They arrived half an hour early with all the fixings & they had carefully fulfilled every little detail of my request---like no onions on top, please. DEAR READER---There is still excellent Italian grilled SALMON in the Crisis. It's at ARTE CAFE.

Lovely place - but too cold inside

By NYCJ0hn |

The last two times we were driven off by the staff leaving the doors open for deliveries. It is winter outside with temperatures in the 30s. Not a good time to leave the doors open. Yesterday we spoke up and asked for the inner and outer doors to be closed. The staff refused. Their refusal was unnecessary: they had lots of staff sitting around doing nothing. They could have had somebody hold each door open and closed after each delivery trip.

Too busy and loud.

By EastCoastMomNY |

Extremely busy Saturday night and the service was poor. Our server started by telling us that it was very busy and we should be patient. Food was very good but not worth the bad service.

Family-Friendly Neighborhood Gem

By Rightwrite |

Arte Cafe was a "go-to" for us a decade or so ago when we were WestSiders. By chance we revisited after a rainy Museum Sunday with Kids & Grandkids. After our meal we were searching our minds to answer the question "WHY, did we stop coming here?" It was very good. Special Buratta appetizer with prosciutto, basil and balsamic was very good. "Lamb Shank" (Osso bucco) was big enough for two, easily, and very good. Pizza Margherita, Branzino and all the parmigiana's also delicious. To cap off the meal, 6 of us dined (and sipped) lavishly for under $200. Glad we came? We were back 2 weeks later 'Nuff said?

Great value, nice place!

Fix price lunch is very good! Choice of salad or soup, or other appetizer. Main course, quite a few choices, chicken, salmon, mussels, etc. Tiramisu desert.

No care for its customers !

By rreyespac |

Had been here for dinner a few days before and decided to give them another chance - mistake! So went back a 2nd time for the Happy Hour with what turn out to be a bartender witch by the name of Rachel ( can't miss her with her Gypsy earrings). I got there with my family for a Happy Hour drink and food and ordered 4 dinners to go. The bartender ignored the bar customers ( Everyone complaining and this Rachel simply didn't really care) Anyway - we were still there based on our first impression (mistake!) so we had 2 drinks each and food and our order to go ( four dinners). I gave her 20 percent on food and drinks we had at bar ( even though she sucked) and she complained to Manager about my tip and proceeded to turn my night around into chaos as she loudly started complaining about our tip ( now that's either funny or absurd). I called Manager over and his take was that Rachel was wrong but the reality is that he allowed this bartender to create chaos in his bar. In summary, this restaurant advertises Happy Hour and food like they are going to welcome you there but unfortunately they appeared to not be geared to customer service and basic civility as they will turn your night into an unpleasant experience. I am reporting this simply because I would hate to see others in the neighborhood disappointed by this make believe bartender Rachel - perhaps she belongs in night club lounge where she can get away with talking loud about her customers but the Arte Cafe is suppose to be a local restaurant where patrons would repeat and come back with family and friends ... But that is not to be with people like Rachel working carelessly to make your evening with your family an unpleasant one. ONE STAR - any establishment that cannot master the fundamentals of customer service should get one or less stars. Local Resident Upper West Side NYC

Horrible dining experience

By Sonys H |

First of all we had to wait a while for our table despite our reservation. We were seated in an outdoor covered patio where many of us kept our winter coats on due to the cold temperature. Our table wobbled so badly we wondered if it would flip at any minute. The server sent someone to correct it who placed a whole cork under it only setting the off balance in the opposite direction. We placed our orders and waited. We waited. We waited some more. When the server walked by we asked for some bread and he snippily replied” we are out” One of our diners asked how was that possible in an Italian restaurant on a Saturday evening. He rudely replied” that is what I was told” Our appetizers finally arrived . The eggplant dish was ice cold so when we told them they swooped it away never to apologize nor replace it with a hot dish. This appetizer that we never ate, however was on the bill and we had to actually argue to have it removed. One of the clams had a huge rock or something that nearly broke a tooth of another diner. Our glasses sat empty for quite some time. At this point drinks would have been appreciated

Dinner enteees finally arrived only to have another cold dish. Our frustration was palpable and the server clearly hated us at this point. We asked for a manager ant this point and are convinced a fake manager was sent to unsatisfactorily deal with us. He offered to remove the few drinks we had but we felt more should have been done. In addition , we ordered one take out order of spaghetti and meatballs for an unwell family member who remained at home. Later as he tried to eat it we noticed the meatballs were raw inside. The spaghetti was dry and unappealing. It was quite unsavory and disgusting. This restaurant could have gone along way with apologies, updates, an empathetic server and accommodating our evening in some agreeable way. Good customer service speaks volumes and that was not given during this visit. There is so much good food in NYC so do yourself a favor and look elsewhere from this restaurant.

Service not up the expectation

By JMarques023 |

This looks a very nice place and food was good but the overall service not what I'd expect. It was slow, one dish was missing and one of the kids burger should be without cheese and it was coming with cheese.

Good vibe

By Berkshire_8 |

This was a buzzy place with a great vibe. The staff were very friendly. The food came suspiciously quickly and was average I would say. The server cleared others plates whilst I was still eating - not sure if it’s the same in the USA but in the UK this is considered rude.

Superb food! But very loud!

By Warren K |

4 of us went for dinner on a Wednesday evening about 5:30pm. Everything from the wine and appetizers to dessert was “ lick the plate to not miss a morsel” good. All 4 of us felt that way. Service was good too. The only downside was that as the tables in the restaurant filled the “noise“, just from people talking, got so loud it was difficult to hear what we were saying to each other across the table. I know there can be a lot involved to “muffle” the noise in certain spaces that restaurants occupy. But the noise really spoiled what was a perfect culinary experience otherwise. A pity! Still, I go back again because the food was that good and price was very reasonable!

LOFTY EXPECTATIONS BELOW GRADE PERFORMANCE

By walter m |

Our 1st time here..but recommended by friends. Server without personality or experience. Appetizers: small, greasy, matchstick zucchini sticks. Decent caesar salad to share, but had to ask and wait for plates. Steak with barolo wine sauce turned out to be some slices of grizzled steak..med well when rare was requested. A sub standard veal marsala with a thick sauce. A terrible pounded, grilled chicken breast. The other 3 main dishes were ok. Ineffectual service was spotty with dishes served separately. Not a great experience. The icing was a 20% service charge tacked onto the check. Just not happy about everything. In some cases I would give a place a 2nd chance. In this case, a complaint to the manager(?) brought a stare and my affirmation never to return.

Place = B Food = C+ Wine = A

By dgraia |

When we arrived the place was pretty packed. We thought we hit the jackpot, but were quite disappointed by the end of the night. Especially with our waiter. It was a while until we got our drinks (which was excellent - Chardonnay and Merlot) and it took even longer before we got our food. Our waiter was pretty much non-existent. The staff were the ones that mainly took care of us (i.e. serving us, taking away our plates, pouring our water, etc.). We were quite disappointed with the food, especially our calamari. We paid a lot of money for C+ food. We couldn't believe that my husband's plate was considered Chicken Parmesan (see picture). My salmon wasn't too bad.

Excellent pizza

Visited for a late lunch. Had an excellent Quattro from magic pizza and crepe brûlée for dessert. Very sweet attentive waitress and bus boy.

Not a fan.

Met a friend to discuss business, on a Sunday at brunch time (I'm not a brunch guy, but that was the menu). Being that I have to watch my diet these days I went for the steak and eggs with no potato. My associate had pancakes and a soda with lemon. He asked three times for lemon before getting it. The menu said that it's a skirt steak and eggs any style. Well it wasn't a skirt steak, it was a well trimmed thin club steak. Definitely not as tender as a skirt. Being famished, I ate it all before our server returned. I let her know that it's not what the menu described. The manager was made aware and checked out my knowledge of meat cuts, he returned and said that I was correct and he's very sorry. Nice to see quick attention and acknowledge the customer might know what they're talking about. He offered to give us desert gratis with coffee. I declined and my friend had a coffee. Service was ok, could be improved. Too many other places to try, so Arte is down on the list for a return trip.

The Boss & I just got back from the Endurance Race called NYC!

By David L |

Let us start off with the good news. In that the Son & Heir and my now lovely daughter in law had their reception there. Where I observed the following things. In that the staff and the food were just great. Especially when it came to handling a couple of relatives who were wheelchair bound. So if you are thinking of some sort of good eating place for a formal occasion. Then as Brigham Young would say. THIS IS THE PLACE! My only complaint and that is a minor one. Was that the seats in the back room were solid wood & miserable for someone blessed with a bad back. But that is a very minor thing in of itself.

Good food

We enjoyed the Chicken picatta dish. The arancini was just ok. This restaurant did a really nice job getting our Seamless order prepared and delivered timely.

The happy hour is also a big time winner

Some friends took me out to dinner and it was absolutely delicious! The grilled octopus was well prepared, the lamb shank was falling of the bone and my friend let me try her chicken Parm and it was delicious!

Amazing Rehearsal Dinner!

By lexinj1219 |

We hosted a rehearsal dinner for family and friends at Arte Cafe and could not have enjoyed the evening more! The staff was superb and attentive, the food was fresh and delicious, the private room was beautiful and needed no extra decorations, the restaurant was wheelchair accessible which we required and close to where the wedding guests were staying. Marc was amazing to work with and every request was met including a microphone for speeches and lowering the music in the room so everyone could hear them. I couldn’t have asked for a better night and thank all those at Arte Cafe that made it happen. I would highly recommend your space for any private party of that size (70 or less). I am still getting thank you notes from those who attended. Great night!

Exploring UWS

By Wilson C |

Came in with my wife for dinner, what a great experience starting with the reservations was sited promptly. Our dinner started with cocktails which were well balanced and the presentation was very thoughtful, we had fried calamari and the beef carpaccio ( delicious), the main dishes were bronzino and the chicken parmigiana superrr!! We order the table side tiramisu , thank you arte cafe for making our dinner experience so enjoyable.

A fantastic menu and delicious Italian food.

Didn't book on this occasion and was able to get a table for two without any fuss (around 7.30pm). The menu was what grabbed my attention first. There were plenty of choices which included seafood. I was greeted by a friendly host who then asked for a waitress to attend to us. The waitress in charge of our area was ever so friendly and was able to describe all the food on offer when asked. The special of the day was so tasty and as seafood lover, of excellent quality. The service and quality of food were in my view the main reason why I would recommend anyone to try this restaurant. I would like to thank the waitress especially as she made the evening relaxed, fun and memorable. It was nice to venture away from our hotel at Lincoln Center and experience cuisine as a resident and not a tourist. This restaurant appeared to have many patrons who were either regulars or local. I do hope management acknowledge the hospitality experienced on February 19th app 7-8.30 pm.

Best bar tender in the upper west side.

Disappointment overall

By tkotnour |

The wine was good, the meals mediocre at best, the service abominable. All 5 of us arrived for 1:00 reservation. Got menus and water right off. Request 2 wines and one lemonade along with bread to stave of our hunger. The wine was good, but the lemonade came with ice when it had been requested NO ICE. It was corrected, but took some time. By 1:30 we had not bread and flagged down a server to take our orders. Requested bread again. When the bread came, it came with butter, the olive oil came at 2:00, but by then the bread had been eaten and our meals finally arrived. The Crab Cakes were OK, the pasta with pesto and pine nuts was generously proportioned but tepid, not even warm. No one complained as we did not feel we had the time for them to make corrections. They added a 20% tip which I thought was generous on their part when the service was so abominable. Disappointing because Arte Cafe was a 'go to neighborhood' place, but not any more.

Disappointing Dinner

By tkotnour |

Eat here often. Love their Happy Hour Menu. I usually order the pizza, but I was not in the mood for pizza tonite so I checked their Happy Hour Menu online......Great to see several pasta dishes. At the restaurant, the Happy Hour Menu did not have any pasta. The waiter spoke little english so I asked to see the Manager. I showed him their website Menu and he curtly informed me that there were no pastas on the menu despite what I could see before my eyes. No apologies!! Just a 'take it or leave it ' attitude.

The best experience

By Mariana C |

Arte Cafe on the Upper West Side is a real find. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. I had the chicken parm and tiramisu as a dessert, and both were delicious. The wine list has great Italian options, and the service is always friendly and attentive. It’s one of those places where you know you’ll have a great meal every time. Definitely worth checking out!

A great get-together place

By BCvisit0r |

The food is excellent!!! Would recommend the Grilled Paillard. Friendly service. Delicious espresso!

Rude staff. Do not recommend. Save yourself the money.

By Johnny B |

Terrible service. Staff is rude. Only making nice so they could get your money. Apparently there are many complaints against them in the neighborhood, and for good reason. Do no recommend.

Family pizza night

Find in the ‘ hood

By furslands |

Unexpectedly good, in a feeding wasteland. Predictable but tasty/well prepped dishes. Excellent service. Reasonable prices on the food — the wine pricing is predictably silly given we’re in USA but you can still get a decent bottle for a not-outrageous price

Good service, ok food.

By IEGB |

Place itself is in great Upper West side location. Nice and welcoming hostess and staff. Restaurant can conveniently seat people in the dining area or near the bar, where you can watch sports. But i wish food had more flavor. Not sure if all dishes are cooked without salt, but dishes that our party of 5 ordered, was without it. If concern is that people with certain medical conditions can be affected, wait staff could just ask if anyone has any food allergies. Although we live in the neighborhood, I’m not sure if we’ll be coming back.

Great authentic Italian food

By RolandMoto |

It's so good to know that Arte Cafe reminds the best Italian Spot of the upper west side. I go here regularly with my friends and family and find the staff to be TREMENDOUS. Not only are they always helpful, with regard to custom orders and specifications, but they are incredibly friendly, cheerful and are very good at what they do. good prices, fresh food and one of the long lasting mainstays of the UWS can't go wrong!

Great atmosphere, poor service

By Andrea F |

We went for Sunday brunch. We were seated immediately and ordered our drinks and food. We got our drinks and then waited over a half hour for our food to arrive. We sought out our waitress who apologized for the delay but still no action. Finally, we flagged down the front end manager who managed to expedite the food. The place was not crowded and we saw people who came in after us being served. The food was okay-could have been hotter. We were comped for an additional drink. When I wanted a coffee refill, the server scrunched up his face in disdain. (We are polite Midwesterners). Our waitress kind of disappeared; didn't offer coffee refills or ask if we wanted anything more. Go for the atmosphere, hope you get decent service.

Outstanding

By cdb15427 |

We were visiting NYC staying on 73rd street and saw Arte Cafe. We decided to order in one night. The food was amazing. Spaghetti bolognse, pizza and roasted vegetables all arrived in a short period of time. The food was hot and well prepared and really delicious flavours.

huge disappointment. what happened to this place???? needs new management, chef and staff

By Angela |

I literally, could have eaten anywhere for my birthday lunch but chose Arte CafeMaybe that is why I haven't heard from them in a while. Service was horrible. Unprofessional, inexperienced waiters. They need to be trained properly. No Italian staff? no woman waitress??? Food was barely warm and gross. Served by another waiter with a large smile but no interest in our experience or food. The pepper mills were empty, but he attempted to look like he was grinding/ I explained to him that there seemed to be no pepper in the grinder and said they were empty and continued smiling and nodding and put the shakers back on shelf without filling them. There was a heavy-set waiter that seemed to have no interest in his responsibilities. Yet he gave the impression he was in charge. Didn't check on us once. the food was less than fair as well as our service. The burger was served with burnt bun and my salmon ($7 extra) looked and tasted like it was fried in bacon grease. the presentation was abominable. no fresh herbs just under appealing. the fries were so small they seemed like they were the bits on the bottom of a potato chip bag. again, the head waiter NEVER checked on us and he saw the burnt bun which we left out for him to see. never poured our water, had to ask for bread three times the appetizers were dry, overcooked and cold. We noticed the table across from us was given the dinner menu

They now entirely play ai music in their restaurant.

By Ronnie O |

Artù cafe is one of my most special restaurants! I have been going for years- and I eat my Thanksgiving OR Christmas meal every year here. I would never say a bad thing about this restaurant until this year
I heard them playing rock covers on their playlist and the voices did not sound real. I shazamed and they are now playing almost entirely AI music!!! I find this appalling and egregious - that a once cherished establishment is involved in erasing human made music from their playlists. Not only are they not featuring new music from up and coming artists today who need the exposure, but they are playing a part in erasing the classic iconic recordings we know and love hearing when we are out in the world. I will never eat here as long as they play ai music !!

Okay meal, but overcharged my Visa card

By BackPacker641771 |

Okay meal. Waiter was very nice, but charged by card $400 for a $200 meal. I assume they mixed up my bill with another table. They're not returning my calls, so I've disputed with Visa.

Worth a Visit

By casillas2018 |

This time stopped by myself because I had forgotten to have breakfast & lunch; so around 3pm drop bye had fried calamari and a Sancerre at the bar. The restaurant was quasi busy. The help & bartenders were friendly, attentive, and helpful. The Sancerre was wonderful, the calamari a bit damp and weak. Otherwise everything else just right: good atmosphere, clean, and vibrant.

Great option for and Italian dinner in the UWS

By SEDY2015 |

My wife and I went to Arte Cafe three times. The quality of the food and of the service were consistently excellent. The pasta dishes we tried were outstanding, especially the lasagna. The veal piccata is also great. It is not cheap, but prices are reasonable compared to other comparable options in the UWS. If you are up for an early dinner -- or a very very late lunch -- the prix fixe option is a bargain by NYC standards. Highly recommended.

Great weekend place to go!

Amazing to go to place!! Love it for their unlimited mimosa brunch. Well worth it with friendly and generous servers! Also great idea for events and celebrations!

90th Birthday

By Laura N |

We celebrated our Aunts 90th Birthday in the backroom. There were 8 tables and about 70 guests. The Italian dishes were impeccable and the waiters went above and beyond. Make sure you order the tiramisu and chocolate mouse, amazing. They made our special occasion the best.

Private Party Rooms

By pollytalknyc |

This is a classic Italian restaurant on the West Side, but they were the choice recently for a Memorial Luncheon in a nice private room beyond the general dining public and I arrived with a huge bouquet which had promised as a contribution but I had no vase...the waiters spring into action and arrived with 3 identical cylinder vases and I looked at them and realized I would take the bouquet apart and make the bouquet into a threesome for the memorial table. The waiters were very cognizant of the fact that this memorial luncheon was for one of the neighborhood men who worked in the opera world...so they set up the electronics to play some of the music the hostess wanted played. All done with grace and dignity and the Italian theme food was great. Other two rooms towards the bag were ideal for birthday parties or small wedding.

A nice dinner at an economical price

By icrobson |

A volunteer at Central park recommended this restaurant which is in her neighbourhood. The cafe includes a outdoor section in front 2 dining rooms (or 3) inside and an area in the middle open to the sky. From noon to 6 pm there is 3 course meal offered at $15. It includes an appetizer, main course and a dessert. I had calamari as my appetizer . Both of use enjoyed dinner and service was attentive.. house wine was good. We will go back there on our next trip to NYC.. next year.

Great starters

By Mandy W |

We ordered a few starters to share and it was very good. They serve complimentary bread with salsa on arrival

Don’t go!!

By lovetodance418 |

We loved this place for many years. Not now. We ordered off the $25 prix fixe menu. My carbonara was good. My husband’s burger was well done instead of medium. Sent back twice and still not right!! We got the bill and his meal was taken off. But
he was asked if he wanted a refill on his Diet Coke. He said Yes. $6.00 each for a 6 ounce glass. $12.00 for 2 diet cokes?! It took FOREVER for the waitress to find the manager to take off the burger meal. A waste of time!!

Valantine's Dinner

By jeff m |

I took the little lady out for a wonderful Valentine's dinner to Arte's Café. Nice quiet spot. Service was great and so was food. But disappointed in the markup for the Hallmark Holiday.

Slow service

By Gregg M |

We have been eating at Arte for 13 years and it has been a neighborhood favorite for us, but after this experience we won't return. Not sure what kind of new management is in place but they seem to have lost the trained waitstaff they had for many years. When we checked in, the hostess, Mia couldn't find our reservation and even questioned if we had one and was about to tell us to leave when I saw another member of our party already seated at the table. She laughed and said, well seat yourself. Our server, was very sweet, but spent most of her time chatting with the hostess rather than checking in on the tables. She mixed up our order, apologized when the wrong entree came out put in the order for the correct entree, but then forgot to adjust our bill for the difference. It took over an hour for our food to arrive and the mussels in the seafood special were cold. We were at a cramped table in the main room and had to ask them to fix the very wobbly table. Arte Cafe - what has happened to you?
