This place deserves to be much higher than #76. No frills, just really good food, lots of it and very reasonably priced. When we got into the cab and told the driver our destination, he said “ good choice.” He and his wife eat there often. The recommendation of a local far outweighs anything a reviewer could write. Cafeteria style, no Waite service. You read the menu, pick out what you want then move down the line to pay. Seat yourself. Beer, etc is available in the next room at the bar which has several TVs for sports. Soft drinks are available where the food is served. Free parking is available. As it was after 8:00 pm and no kids around, I’m going to say that accounting for the ambiance, this is not necessarily a place to bring the kids unless it’s for a burger mid-day. Last time I had BBQ this good was in Ft Worth. If you come to Texas, you have to have BBQ.

Look no further for excellent BBQ in downtown San Antonio. You always get exactly what you want as you pass through this cafeteria style restaurant. The meats are hot, fresh, and sliced to order. There is a good selection of side dishes to complement the brisket, links, chicken and beef ribs. The prices are reasonable and the portions huge!

Came in for dinner and left stuffed! Ordered the brisket and jalapeño sausage beans, potatoes, and coleslaw as sides. The brisket was tender and juicy, the staff carving it ask if fat is ok or if you prefer lean. The jalapeño sausage was very good, as were the sides. Very satisfying dinner.

This restaurant is on the Hop-On Hop Off Bus route - it is in the middle of an industrial area and you must line up to place your order. We ordered an a la carte item and the special of the day - when we were still paying they brought us the special of the day - unfortunately, it was not the special (it was a sandwich and fries) so we sat down and waited for the special of the day. We ended up not getting the meal. After a half an hour we asked where the meal was, and eventually they did take the price of the special off our bill, but of course they did not take off the original tip we gave. When we were leaving they did offer the meal as a take out, but being a tourist we were not going to carry a bag of food around all day. There are many great restaurants in San Antonio, so no need to subject yourself to Augies.

Stopped in for dinner after seeing the interesting facade in front. Very tasty sausage, brisket and mashed sweet potatoes! San Antonio is has lots of great BBQ spots and this is one of them. Try it, you'll like it!

Initially impressed with how large the portions are. Unfortunately the food was so dry and tasteless that I couldn't even finish it. It was also very hot and infested with flys. Better off going to Rudy's BBQ.

Great spot recommended by our hop on bus driver and am I certainly glad we went. Wow the portions are huge my husband and I shared the rib and brisket platter with baked beans coleslaw and fries delicious 😋.

I stopped in for lunch and had the pork rib combo with sausage; including the mash potatoes and fried beans. Only complaint is that you only receive two (2) ribs. I don't mind spending $14.99, but at least a 1/2 rack off ribs would have been sufficient.

My group was looking for a good Texas BBQ place. The bus tour recommended the other Augie's restaurant, but the parking was scarce, so we ended up here. It was a big mistake. The atmosphere is run down shack style. The food was served on paper plates. The food was mediocre at best. The prices weren't too bad, considering the type of place. The service was fine. But if this was our one experience of a Texas BBQ, it doesn't cut it.

Recommended form our bus tour as the Best BBQ. It wasnt the best but it wasnt bad either. You should go before 3 to eat ribs after that it taste like rubber. LES our waiter was super helpful and chatty about SAN ANT. History about Augies and friendly to find out more info. Cool lil place to check out

Great BBQ here! The sides are less than stellar, but the meat alone is worth the trip. I had the pulled dark chicken sandwich and it was awesome :)

Awesome outdoor area great for casual meal and watching a game. Inside it is a “hole in the wall “ kind of place. Fantastic brisket. Excellent beef ribs. Very good pulled pork. Friendly helpful staff. Small beer selection.

This was recommended by the tour guides on City Sightseeing busses. We walked there today and was well worth the walk. I had the brisket and sausage. My sister had brisket and pulled pork. All was very good with generous portions. If anyone is in town, I highly recommend.

We love the casual atmosphere, cafeteria style ordering. Had pulled pork, Chicken and brisket. Brisket was exceptional. Skip the chicken. Great barbecue sauce. Delicious sides especially liked their creamed corn and mashed. Never did I think I would enjoy cream corn as much as I like this. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The margaritas were huge! One is enough for two people. I wish I was closer so I could go there often.

The real deal! Neighborhood joint vibe. Tasty Texas style bbq. Family owned and operated. And it’s away from the Riverwalk hustle and bustle. I had the brisket on a bun with Mac n cheese topper. Yeah buddy, my inner fat kid was happy. Especially when I added an order of peach cobbler. Mmmm good.

I have been coming here for ten years. The brisket is second to none. A great location near the arts district.

Great food! Great prices and great people! It was a fantastic stop for lunch with more food than I could eat in one siting. The beef ribs and the pork ribs were falling off the bone and the chicken was moist and delicious - no extra BBQ sauce needed! And the pink pig outside was adorable!!

Got there at 5:00pm on a Monday and had a beer at the bar. Went to order food at 6:00pm and they were out of pork, ribs, and brisket. Guys behind the counter told us the hamburgers are good. The group in front of us and behind us walked out with us. The employees were very nice at the bar, but someone should let customers know there is no BBQ to order of any kind. Long walk for nothing.

I'm not a huge fan of beef ribs but had a few in addition to my pork rib, brisket and sausage plate. What a treat after a long day, and I'm happy my customer who I'd never met in person up until this time was cool with digging in and getting messy too. I didn't even use extra sauce because they slapped some on the meat that was so good I wanted savor the smoke. This is just a little north of the riverwalk so it kept things less touristy I imagine. You order up off the wall board menu at the grill, and they have a full bar in the other room after you pay. Cool decor and I look forward to going back soon.

The food was delicious, the service was top notch and the prices were good. What more can you ask? Everything we ordered was amazing and everyone working there was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves bbq!

Great flavor and a very generous portion. The best smoked chicken I have ever tasted. If you have the chance this is definitely worth a try.

Came for some authentic Texas BBQ. Not disappointed! Food and service were excellent. Portions are massive so bring an appetite!

Went in mid-afternoon and the place was not busy, but the staff greeted us, helped us with the menu and gave us some tips on what to eat. I had the marbled brisket and the portion was huge, hot and done perfect. The sides are big and tasty. The sauce was killer and drinks were big. A 20 oz. Coors Banquet for $2!! If I lived in San Antonio, this place would be on my weekly eat list. A real gem!

This was the worst place I have ever had bbq at !! not friendly all at ... meat was dry to the bone , sausage was like beef jerky .

We were looking for good barbeque and we found it. This is a great restaurant where the locals go. Huge portions and very reasonably prices. The ribs were fabulous!

Went for a quick lunch, referred by a driver who took me to Wyndham hotel. This was THE BEST smoked brisket, and pulled pork ... AND marbled brisket...(something new to me) First of all, they will let you taste everything. Honestly, I couldn’t decide between the pork and brisket. I ordered the brisket, and then they added in a nice sized sample of the pork for me. It was AMAZING. Absolutely delicious. The Mac cheese was very good, the coleslaw did not disappoint, it was great! I’m stuffed....but before I left, they insisted I try the marbled brisket. OMG so so very tender! I will order that next time. Quick, casual, reasonable priced....but the folks there were really, really, super nice. After I raved to the hotel to be sure they refer people there, she told me they donate to a local Shelter and help to get people in the community back on their feet. So, their food is great and their hearts are in the right place. This was Five stars 😛

We were on the tour bus in San Antonio and stopped to go to Augie's on the drivers reccomendation. The BBQ was just ok, I have had much better elsewhere. You have to bring your food to your own table, no waitress. Would not reccomend.

After reading reviews, I had high hopes for good BBQ here. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The beef ribs were so tough and chewy that I did not enjoy them. The pulled pork was dry. The brisket was ok. The sides may have been the best part. The atmosphere was what I would expect for a good BBQ joint, but the food was just meh.

being slightly lost looking for the Japanese tea garden i spotted augies for directions. it smelled so delicious i went back for BBQ. the BBQ was a treat delicious sausage and brisket.

Portion size was adequate. The food is in a walk through line that moves fast. You pick your meats and you sides. The greenbeans and potato salad was my selection along with brisket and pulled pork, Brisket was good, the pork was sort of greasy sitting in its own fat, green beans were seasoned well, these did not come out of a can. Potato salad was above average.

Stumbled upon this while leaving the zoo, so glad we did. EXCELLENT. I had the chopped brisket sandwich, it was amazing. My wife had the pulled pork, also very very good. The fries and mac and cheese were also excellent. It is a hole in the wall, not much seating, but so so good. Highly recommend.

Was in the area for training, never been to San Antonio. Our group recommended that we come to Augie’s. It was good, but not great. My first Texas BBQ experience and not terribly impressed (KCMO Native). I got a pulled pork sandwich with Mac N Cheese and a frozen sangria. Other friends ordered ribs and brisket, they raved!

Pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but good. Covid has made things different but they are doing their best. If traveling the on off bus it’s worth a stop.

We lucked out and found this restaurant just around the corner from our hotel, Wyndham Garden River Walk Museum Reach. A 2 1/2 block walk. I was looking for a good BBQ restaurant. I always use Trip Advisor as my starting point. Augie’s name caught my attention. Just so happened we were using the tour bus Hop On Hop Off for our transportation while in San Antonio. Stop 5 was for Augie’s BBQ. Our hotel stop was #6. I asked the bus driver where the restaurant was located as you cannot see it from the corner stop. At the corner stop, there is a white building with a bicycle mural on the side. Augie’s is located on the other side of the building. They have inside and outside dining. There is some construction going on nearby but the food is well worth the not so attractive area. Not a dangerous area just construction mess. Let’s talk food and other things. We ordered one, two meat combo plate. Pulled pork and beef brisket with honey baked beans and creamy coleslaw. Everything was fantastic. Both taste and texture. I don’t usually care for restaurant slaw but their’s is delicious. We shared the plate and had plenty to eat. The price of the plate was $14.99. The sweet tea was great, too. We also share a fresh made brownie ($3). Our total bill with tip was only about $25. The manager greeted us when we came in. He explained their menu and also said ALL of their food is cooked fresh daily. Anything that is not eaten each day is donated to a Catholic shelter. I loved the style of the restaurant. Very friendly staff. Order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Oh yeah, they have fresh cobbler daily. I very much recommend this restaurant!

We were recommended to try Augie's Barbed wire barbecue and the Brisket and sausage combo was delicious. We would gladly return. The brisket could not be more juicy. The staff were extremely friendly. We used the Hop on Hop off bus so it could not be more convenient. My wife and I shared 1 combo 2 meat special and left food.

This place is so HOT inside. I could not even enjoy my food it was so hot. You know it is to hot inside when even the servers behind the counter are wiping the sweat off their faces.

Great food, typical Texas food and great service. Would highly recommend for lunch or dinner. Food was properly cooked and it tasted great

This place got good reviews so we decide to try our BBQ meal here. We had a good meal. You choose your meats and your sides so everyone can get what they like. It was a lot of food so come hungry.

We got off the Hop on/Hop off bus and ate lunch here. It was GREAT! I think it was the BEST brisket that I had eaten in a very long time!!! We all had a GREAT time!!!

We were travelling to San Antonio for the first time from Australia, we saw Augie's was recommended on our hop-on, hop-off bus tour so we decided to make it our last stop. We spent the entire day sighseeing and skipped lunch so we could head here for an early dinner. I love BBQ, my husband has never been a huge fan, but Augie's changed his opninion. There aren't really many BBQ restaurants in Australia, and there are none in the city where we live, and after eating at Augie's it made me wish so much that we had one! It was no frills, order up at the counter, meat then sides, and I also had a really delicious cocktail. The price was so good for what we got, it was seriously our cheapest but best meal. We had beef brisket and pork ribe with mac & cheese and mashed potato. Oh my goodness, it was absolutely amazing, my husband doesn't do ribs...but now he does. I love BBQ so much, and as I type this back in Australia I am longing to go back to Augie's The staff were lovely, and we loved the quirky restaurant style, so much to look at while we ate. Seriously, I could eat here every day. LOVE IT.

our tour guide recommended Augie's, barbed wire- once your hooked... started with open steam table with the sides, the guy serving behind the steam table was without gloves or a hair net. next up was the grizzly sliced brisket, and a jalapeno sausage, both reeked of liquid smoke. I ate some and paid for it the rest of the day with burps and indigestion

Super, fantastic, welcoming service from the whole staff. The food was delicious, and definitely value for money. No wonder this restaurant came highly recommended.

Our bus tour guide recommended this restaurant so when we discovered the restaurant we wanted to eat at was closed we came here for lunch. Boy am I glad our first choice was closed. We were on a road trip around Texas and ate brisket at several popular locations and this was by far the best. My husband and I especially loved the brisket, beef ribs, and mac and cheese. The pulled pork was just okay. This food was so good I kept having to talk myself out of returning since we only had time for so many meals. Kind of wish we'd gone back. We will definitely visit again the next time we're in San Antonio.

We found this place while visiting the Japanese Tea Gardens next to it. It's hard to miss with the big pink pig on top. It looks like a little hole in the wall place but the food is well worth the stop. The prices are comparable to all other BBQ places but the food is amazing. The staff are also great and helpful. The kids meals are decently priced and include a sandwich, side and an ice cream! I will definitely be back when I am in the area.

Get in line. Name you meats. Name you sides. Order a beer. Simple. Back to my standard, nobody gets 5 or 1 stars unless they earn it. So 4 is good! The brisket has a choice of lean or more fatty. The pulled pork is excellent! The sausage (regular) was a bit plain, Burt the staff even made a face when I passed on the jalapeño which probably would have been better. Mashed sweet potato casserole was very good the cole slaw was up to the task. I used a slice of bread to make a folded brisket sandwich with a touch of mustard and coke slaw. Ate every thing plain too.

You can't miss the distinctive pink pig in front and inside there are rustic signs and other interesting memorabilia on the walls -- and everywhere else. My husband and I went here for an early dinner and when we arrived, couldn't find anyone, so we walked to the back where the bar is. Two people were working back there and in a friendly way, asked us to go back to the order counter with the menu posted above. My husband ordered a meat combination plate and I had white meat chicken. He had Mac & Cheese and green beans for his two sides, while I had creamed corn and beans. We were offered slices of bread (that seemed to be from a supermarket package) and had to ask for butter. While the food is very reasonably priced and they don't skimp on portions, I thought that my dinner was without much flavor at all. My husband (born and raised in San Antonio) agreed that he had expected more taste for the barbecue that is their specialty.

We went for dinner at the recommendation of our double decker bus tour guide. The jalapeno sausage had a decent flavor, but was a little tough and overcooked. They were out of pulled pork and sliced brisket. It was just barely 6 PM. We ended up with chopped brisket that was cold and full of fat. I returned my chopped brisket for turkey instead, but it was barely room temperature. Mashed sweet potatoes were ok. Mac n cheese was okay. Creamed corn was good. Still all of it was barely warm. Luckily it wasn't terribly expensive. I definitely would suggest trying a different BBQ joint if visiting San Antonio.

Conveniently located on the Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Bus route close to the historic Market Square. After enjoying too much great food at the Market, I skipped Augie's until Day 2 of my stay in San Antonio and I'm glad I did! The food was fantastic, authentic and plentiful! Deeelicious! The pile of BBQ Beef Brisket was pure, juicy Heaven. Beans, beer and service were also great. I will be back again!

My wife and I loved the food at Augie’s! All of it was delicious! Pulled pork- goooood. Beef brisket, goooooood!

We were referred here by a couple of the hop-on hop-off drivers. It was pretty good, we had a couple of margaritas, not the best I've ever had, but decent. The BBQ was pretty good, I had the ribs and brisket, very taste and the BBQ sauce was really good. But have to admit it was a bit pricey. But we had to try it and we enjoyed it. But for that kind of money, not sure if would go back.

Back again a year later! This time I had the pulled pork and chicken with baked beans and Mac n Cheese. SO GOOD! This will be a stop every time I visit San Antonio!

Good food and excellent service. Even though it wasn't super busy when I came, I was still completely blown away by how kind and attentive the staff were.

By far the best meal we had in San Antonio!! Best brisket and sides!!!! Jesse took good care of us 🤩. The food was fast and delish!! Bbq sauce was amazing!!

Ok barbecue. Ccol vibe. Had brisket and chicken. Food lacked seasoning. French fries are good. Staff seemed confused about a few things. A stop on the hop on hop off tour. First time eating bbq in Texas. Not impressed.

I love BBQ, and when I heard on a tour that this was the “best BBQ in Texas”, I was excited. Texas BBQ was definitely on my to try list. I ordered brisket, creamed corn, and Mac and cheese, and the Mac and cheese was the high point. The brisket was drier than anything, felt like I was chewing on wet wood chips, and the creamed corn tasted like canned corn heated up in plain yogurt. I had better food in my elementary school cafeteria. And that’s what this place was: a cafeteria. How anyone would recommend this is beyond me.

One server for 65 people... obvious recipe for disaster. Reservation set up for 6pm weeks in advance. We show up and they are still setting up. Did I say “they”? My bad...”he”. One person. We had to wait an hour before “he”’ was ready to start serving. We selected this restaurant because they said they could handle a large group and their prices were nominal. We paid $14 per person for 2 sides and one meat... no dessert... no salad ... regular sliced bread (no rolls) . This restaurant totally missed the mark. If you are taking a large group this is not the place to go. I must add, I purchased my own dessert...$3.79 for a slice of a brownie. I should have taken it back. It was by far the worst brownie I’ve ever eaten in life. Not only was it dry and hard as a rock, it tasted horrible!

We did hop on/hop off bus tour & driver recommended we come here for lunch. We shared the beef brisket & sausage with potato salad & mac/cheese. Did not enjoy, average tasting food. Brisket was hard & dry, didn't melt in your mouth like others I've had, sausage was ok, potato salad was good, mac/cheese very average, tasted like it was from a packet mix. My fresh lemonade drink was good. Overall not the best bbq food.....I've had a lot better.

If you’ve had great BBQ, come to Augie’s and you’ll know for certain. The meat is so tender you don’t need a knife. The flavors, the smokiness is incredible. Do yourself a favor and come here.

Augie's has really good Texas BBQ. The brisket is moist and delicious and the portion of meat on the sandwiches is generous. We typically stop by Augie's while we are visiting San Antonio.

Being from Georgia, barbecue is pork, so I take advantage when I'm in Texas to eat brisket. I had a chopped brisket sandwich with the house BBQ sauce. It was very good. Lots of sides but I didn't try any of them.

We were told about this restaurant as we drove by on a city tour and decided to go back for lunch. So glad we did! The place was nothing fancy and neither was the food. It was down right smokehouse meats and sides that were nothing short of extraordinary! I wouldn't change a thing. When we got back to the hotel our jackets still smelled of the smoker.

Large place with indoor and outdoor dining. Food was good and served super fast. The jalapeño sausage was the best based on heat and flavor. The brisket was good...the chicken did not taste grilled or smoked. It like it was boiled and then lightly grilled. No rub or seasoning on the chicken. Overall not a place we will rush back too. The Big Bib was well above in terms of taste.

Ate here in Mid July. Brisket, ribs and pork are good. Decent price. Parking can be hard sometimes. Overall, good food.

We had lunch based on recommendations from local folks and were very pleased with the BBQ brisket and ribs we had . Will come here again on our next visit.

I generally am motivated to write exceptional reviews or really poor ones. This is the latter, a really poor review. The establishment is in a nice location, not far from the San Antonio Zoo. That's about where my compliments stop. First it is a small establishment, that's not an issue but it is or rather is not something on the order of a Rudy's or Goode's out in Houston. When you enter you can smell the smoke from the meats that have been prepared. However the initial order display is this 'all you can eat' display, at the front counter, of food that's obviously been sitting in the hotel pans for a few hours. Not very appealing! From there you have the option to order menu items. When I said I wasn't interested in the chopped brisket presented in the display they went and pulled a whole one out and cut slices for me. I ordered pork butt to go along with it and the sausage and green beans. After the guy at the counter had cut my slices and was about to put them on my plate, the owner came and took away some of the meat that had already been cut explaining to me and the person taking the orders that he'd cut too much and he couldn't give that amount of brisket to me for the posted price...'you understand right'. (Sure whatever dude is my internal reply which should have been the first warning bell) Next he says I can only give you two small cups of BBQ sauce to go with the meats you have...'I don't put it out because...' (I guess people will use too much). I'm like whatever again...warning bell number 2. I finally get the food, pick a table and start tasting the brisket which looked fairly moist when it was cut but in fact had either been cooked too long or sitting in a warmer too long because it was dry. But here's my real issue, the brisket had no flavor other than the flavor of the smoking wood that was used during the cooking. Listen 'cooks' if you're going to be one of those BBQ cooks who only wants the meat and the flavor of the wood with no seasoning in the mix, let me know, put a sign up on your website and door so I can be sure to avoid you. The pulled pork was dry as well, overcooked and tasteless. The sausage did have sausage flavor but all three meats were overwhelmed by the level of smoking wood that had been used. The food was sooo bad that I, who am a notorious doggy bagger, just threw it away after suffering to get through about half of it. I mentioned the green beans, which were okay, but who comes to a Texas Style BBQ for the vegetables??? Folks given the constraints placed on the amount of BBQ sauce allotted, the amateurish nature of oversmoking of the meats, the overdoneness of the meat and lack of flavor...I would Strongly Advise You to avoid this establishment! I've eaten in a number of places, states and countries and lived in TX for 5 years, this is one of the worst examples of what TX Style BBQ is supposed to be! And the rather immature and unprofessional actions of the owner made the experience a waste of time.

We had dinner there, it was getting late but the staff was so helpful since it was our first trip to San antonio. The bbg was outstanding, great sides, the bar tender, she was so good and the guy at the door who brought us our food was great. We will be back, thanks

While staying in San Antonio we were directed to Augie's Alamo City BBQ as we were told and noticed positive reviews for this place. The moment we entered, there was a chill of guest experience as we waited at the entrance a good minute or two before we were greeted and told about the cafeteria process for ordering. We proceeded to order, needing to raise our voice over the tall glass partition to place our order. I ordered the sausage/pulled pork combo, mac and cheese, and coleslaw. When they dished up our food it was accompanied by two slices of bread pulled directly from the bag with no sanitation practices in place hence, no gloves. The sausage was cold and dry and the pulled pork average in taste but adding the BBQ sauce saved the meat. Mac and Cheese were good and the coleslaw a bit much with the liquid, reminded me of KFC slaw. There has to be better BBQ in San Antonio then this place, I hope.

We went for lunch we split a plate 2 meats and 2 sides could not finish it. Pork and brisket, slaw and best baked beans. So good!!

2:00pm we got off the tour bus with two other couples, I thought maybe they were closed, nobody greeted us. I yelled is anyone here, finally a guy said yes we are serving. You walk up to a window counter and point to what you want with your meats. Large pans with your choices covered with foil. Sorry we are out of coleslaw and potato salad. You gotta be kidding me...... ok my chicken was great the jalapeño sausage looked like a pepperoni stick (dry and shriveled) it tasted okay. Not there best day for me.

We wanted to try some good old Texas BBQ and boy “ It Was Good‼️ The atmosphere was completely different from restaurants I’ve been too, but that’s what makes it interesting. The food were delicious and you get a good amount for the price. You can probably share the food , but we ate it all. I had the jalapeño hot links and I’ve been dying for this since I came back. We took Uber from the Alamo to get here as we we didn’t know where the restaurant was and from there we walk back to our hotel by the Riverwalk. I highly recommend this place and I would go back just for the bbq!

This is a fun bbq joint. You walk up to the first counter and select your sides. You can see through glass exactly what you are going to be served. My wife and I shared the garlic & rosemary mashed potatoes as well as honey beans. Both delicious. At the next counter, for the meat selections we picked the pulled pork and brisket. Juicy and great flavor. Their bbq sauce is on the sweet side. For dessert we had a slice of pecan pie, very well prepared - not too sweet. We would recommend to friends and family.

We at here on our arrival day to San Antonio, Texas. It was just a 10-minute drive from the airport and it was near the San Antonio Zoo, Asian Tea Garden, and Brackenridge park. The BBQ was overall great. The beef ribs and brisket were excellent. The chicken was great. Sides were good, not the best BBQ sides we ever had, but let's be honest, we were there for the meat and that was excellent. Ample seating inside and outside. Great intro to Texas!

Walked from Riverwalk area to Augie’s at suggestion of our bus driver. Worth every step. 3 meat plate fed 2 of us. Brisket was fork tender and tasty. Pulled beef so good. Sausage spiced up just right. And then the beans and Mac and cheese. Oh, shiner bock was an excellent addition. Prices were so reasonable a huge family could afford this place. Take a hike and try it.

On a recent visit to San Antonio Augie’s was recommended to us as one of the best for BBQ and so thought we’d try it out. It’s just by one of the Hop on Hop off stops so is convenient to get to if using this. The visit was mainly for my friend who’s a real meat eater however I did find enough for me to eat (pulled chicken/turkey), home style fries and mac n cheese. It has a canteen feel with basic chairs and tables and counter service. Staff were very friendly behind the counter. Food portions were hot, large and tasty and the meat was smoky, flavoursome and tender. Would recommend for those looking for a cheapish, filling, tasty lunch and would visit again if in San Antonio

I love BBQ, I guess it’s almost expected being from Dallas, but this might have been the best BBQ I’ve ever had. I had a sliced brisket plate, with Mac and cheese and a side of beans. The place is clean, the service was great, not much of a wait once my order was taken. The people were friendly and Augie was there. I enjoyed it so much, I actually went back the following day. If you’re in San Antonio, it’s worth the drive and WHOLE LOT better than a BBQ place that seems to have many locations in south Texas. How do I know, I stopped at one in San Antonio on a drive to Dallas a few days earlier. This is the BBQ you wished you could make at home. Try it, let me know what you think. Enjoy!

We went to Augie's for lunch during our recent trip to San Antonio. After riding on the hop on / off bus for awhile we decided to get off and have lunch at Augie's which happened to be one of their stops. It is a cafeteria style restaurant and we had the pork and rib platter and the 2 meats platter with sausage & pulled pork. All we very tasty, mm good and melted in our mouths. We washed it all down with a nice cold draught.

WOW. Add the Creamed Corn and Mac and Cheese for sides and it is a meal made in heaven You you not be disappointed. Smokey, juicy, tender beef ribs Very reasonably. priced.

Good Bar B Que. Reasonable prices. Nice staff. Brisket was excellent, pulled pork was very good. Stop 5 on Hop On Hop Off bus.

I frequently go to Augies for my BBQ fix. I will typically order a two meat plate brisket and chicken or just brisket. I always order double portions of cream corn as it is DELICIOUS!! Busy at least 2-3 times a month

This bbq place was recommended by our tour bus guide. It is not much too look at from the outside, but the food was really good. Great prices and large portions. Plan to split with your family:)

Some of the worst bbq I have had. The price was right but the food was not. The brisket was very dry and I had marbled. Both the beef and pork ribs were old and fatty. The pulled pork was old and greasy. The garlic potatoes were okay but the hot green beans were cold. This is their newer location. The old one near the zoo was always decent.

Marvelous! Carnivores assemble! Recommended by the tour bus driver as the best BBQ in downtown San Antonio. We agree. So we sad ov

No frills place with great food. Brisket and jalapeño sausage needs to be on your plates. Lots of options and reasonably priced.

Great food and service. Very clean. The employees are very nice. The macaroni and cheese is amazing. Would have given 5 stars, but they charge for water cups.

Short drive from the DoSeum and a good lunch spot with kids. They have high chairs but no booster seats. Portions are large so cinder splitting gone with the kids.

VERY casual local place. It was disappointing. If you like lots of smoky flavor I guess you'll like it? It was a bit too smoky for me and the sides were nothing special either. My daughter lives in Tennessee so we may have gotten spoiled with lots of good bbq. I've always heard that Texas has the best bbq. but apparently this isn't it. We ubered from Riverwalk and on the way back, our driver mentioned that bbq isn't very popular in San Antonio. He said Austin is known for their bbq. I didn't realize where you get it matters. You may want to stick to Tex-Mex while in town.

The BBQ here is average. The place can be very hot since there isn’t any AC and seating is limited inside although there r picnic tables outside. The positive thing is the prices are very reasonable n you can get a lot of que for less than elsewhere including beef ribs. Friendly staff although the service can be very slow even with a short line. But again, if you’re in the zoo area try it it’s good que

I had a chopped pork sandwich. The pork was tender and the sauce was a tad sweet and yummy. Small place fills up quickly. But I would absolutely come back. Reasonable prices too.

Just what YOU expect! Smokey and tender main attractions: brisket, pork, chicken, sausage or steak! Multiple sides to choose from with a special shout-out for the cream corn, potato salad and mashed sweet potatoes! Very reasonably priced to boot (TX pun, intended!)

On vacation we wanted some good BBQ and were not disappointed! Easy on the pocket book and simple yet tasty. You go to a counter and order no waiters which was fine by me but bus boy/man came to check on us and super friendly. $14.99 for three meats of your choice and 2 sides you will be full! I had the 2 meat and couldn’t finish hubby ate all of his.

Augie's knows how to cook excellent BBQ. The food absolutely melts in your mouth and super flavourful. The service was great but the food was FANTASTIC!

Daughter and I were in San Antonio last month and wanted authentic texas bbq brisket. The guide on the hop on hop off bus tour recommended Augie's (stop #5). So we took his advice and were really glad we did. We shared the brisket sandwich, baked beans, and each had a beer. It was AWESOME! A sign a place has good food is when the second room was full of military personnel in uniform. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the menu board was a little difficult to process (so much) but the staff recommended this sandwich and we loved it. Will definitely go back if we are ever in San Antonio again.

Ordered brisket and jalepeno plate with green beans, potatoe salad, The green beans were delicious and the potatoe salad was good, the jalepeno sausage was excellent, casing had a nice snap and was very flavourfull, the brisket was ok, nothing special, the bar b q sause was a little funky, like spoiled or just their mix, not sure if I would go back because there are quite a few bar b q joints around SA that have much better brisket.

I guess after just having BBQ in Memphis I was spoiled. the brisquet was fine, the ribs a huge disappointment - very fatty! Mac and cheese standard. Service was friendly .

Was recommended this place by two locals and it didn’t disappoint. Great smoked bbq, the brisket was sensational as were the ribs. The beans on the side were great and the service was really good too.

You can keep all your expensive BBQ joints, This place has the best brisket I’ve ever tasted . Two meats two sides drink for only $15 a true bargain.

Arrived around 4:00. Cafeteria style that time of day. Three of us ordered pulled pork with a variety of sides. Pulled pork very good as was potato salad, Cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Mac and cheese just fair. Frozen margaritas during happy hour were $4 and ok.

The staff was so friendly and helpful! The food was great. Our family ate here and each of us got something different and every one of us were pleased with everything. We will definitely eat here next time we are in San Antonio!

This is what Texas BBQ looked like in my mind. The flavor (and my friend from Texas eating with me) confirmed it. Got the beef rib combo plate with marbled brisket and it was more than enough food. Beef ribs were good, don't get me wrong, but the brisket was the star of the show. Prices were also more than favorable. Counter order keeps the line moving.

i am a barbecue snob so my standards are quite high. On our visit, my wife had the brisket and I had beef ribs. She said the brisket was average and my ribs were tasty but tough, I don't remember the sides so they must have been uneventful. they did not have barbecue or baked beans which was a little surprising. I am assuming this was just a bad day for them and another trip would be more pleasing.

Great food, casual, indoor and outdoor seating. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend trying the bacon wrapped chili dog.....wow

Nice spot, typical BBQ joint. You order cafeteria style. They do have beer, both on draft and bottled, as well as frozen margaritas if that's your thing. I got the 32 oz. El Chincon which was served in a big old frozen glass. I had the brisket/pork rib combo and it was delish. Meat was tender with a good bark on it. The ribs had plenty of meat on them, lots of other places not so much meat. Maybe a bit too salty on the rub for my taste but just a minor quibble. Did not have dessert. Sides were mashed sweet potato and green beans, both really good.

Brisket and pulled pork were wonderfully moist and smoked to perfection! I’m very picky about fatty meat and the little fat there was melted in your mouth. Mac n cheese was creamy and surprisingly good as most bbq places under season or make it too watery. The bbq beans were also delicious. Definitely recommend if you are in the SA area!

We visited San Antonio for a wedding and Augie's catered the rehearsal dinner and it was DELICIOUS! The brisket, pork and sausage were tender and tasty. The mac & cheese was delicious and the corn was sweet and just perfect. I didn't have the jalapeños, but for those who did, loved it. I would definitely go to the restaurant the next time we come to San Antonio.

After the Alamo, we were hungry. It’s a 15 minute walk to Augie’s. Chicken, ribs, pork and sides were good. Lean brisket dry. Banana pudding was great!

Was recommended by a few locals in the area to try out Augie’s for BBQ. Small kitchen, but decent on flavor. Got a 3 meat platter that had Chicken, Brisket, and Sausage. The sausage was the best for flavor in my opinion... brisket and chicken were a little dry, but still had good flavor. The Mexican rice and honey bbq beans as sides were quite delicious. Service was average at best. But it was a Saturday for lunch and it was a long line to order at some points. Overall... decent flavor. Worth a visit if it’s not busy.

We left the sunken Japanese Garden's and saw Augie's there is a large pink pig out front so you cannot miss it. We enjoy lunch in patio area, watched football and ate BBQ I had footlong hotdog, family ribs, and brisket... all well prepared and enjoy the meal.

Not horrible bbq but the pork was very fatty the sides were good we ordered the Mac and cheese and green beans. Mac and cheese was very cheesy and yummy. Inside seating was limited and not good for 6+ people.

We were on the City Sightseeing Bus Tour and this is one of the stops on the tour so guessing they get commission. We originally stopped at the Pearl brewery for lunch but couldn’t find anything we fancied. Hence, we stopped by the Augies BBQ. There are signs explaining how to order food and it is fairly straightforward. We went for a sharing platter and the food was tasty but nothing amazing. It filled a gap but we weren’t blown away by it. Wasn’t particularly cheap either. Also, we got the impression that locals don’t really like tourists going in here, as a couple of people were really rude to us. Made the mistake of sitting at a table where one local had put his sunglasses on a chair (I hadn’t seen them) - He came along and very hastily said the table was taken & I should move, then laughed to his male friend and made some muttered comment under his breath. Had I not have been with my husband, I would’ve felt intimidated. On a separate note, the ladies toilets were quirky...(see photos). Once we had eaten, we had to wait around 30 minutes for the next tour bus and there is nothing to do or see in the immediate vicinity, in fact it felt a little like the back of nowhere. If you like meat and some salad with a beer, in a local place where the locals are not that friendly, then you might like it here. We weren’t so sure.

Augies is simply exceptional BBQ in the rough. In our last day of a one-week vacation in Austin and San Antonio, we had lunch in what was our favorite BBQ spot, and we did a hit a number of the more acclaimed BBQ joints and restaurants on our way through. Greeted with a chicken leg as we soon as walked in, we were made to feel very much at home in the warm and rough confines of Augies. I had what was the best brisket of our vacation; moist with some fat and just an awesome flavor. This was just heavenly and an inspiration for this review. My wife had the chicken special, which was a bit small but nicely smoked. The BBQ sauce was just right, and although we were able to get extra sauce, we would have preferred to have a small bottle on the table. For sides we had beans, the potato salad and coleslaw all of which were fine, with the potato salad being my favorite. Make no mistake about it…Augies is about the BBQ and delicious BBQ it is. Enjoy

We got there @ 7:30 Valentines night. They were out of ribs. Who does that?? Ok.. But then....the food we did get was cold. The pulled pork was mushy. I know you have to do a great job to get all the great ratings, but you dropped the ball on the one! B&D (little BBQ up the road) had you hands down!!!

This was the best sandwich/BBQ I have ever had. Long after the last bite was gone I was still so glad I stopped there. I have meals along the riverwalk but this was the best meal I had. The El Matador sandwich was so delicious. I would give it more than 5 circles if I could.

No real extras and the sides were unspectacular but between the four of us we ordered all six meats and we liked them all. Ribs not to fatty, brisket had integrity, chicken flavourful and the hot sausage was hot. Friendly service and fun surroundings. 10% off if you show your license to carry.

Augie's is the only BBQ restaurant that is on the Hop on/off bus stop. Funky little place. The Woman's bathroom was fun to see - quirky. Food is served buffet style. I ordered the BBQ Pork Ribs and my daughter ordered the Pulled Pork. Big menu to choose from. We were able to order two sides. I ordered the cream corn and mashed potatoes. My daughter enjoyed the pulled pork. Mine was "so-so". Too much gristle and fat on mine. But, a fun place to stop!

I've spent alot of time is BBQ joints around the US. This one ranks reasonably high on the list of all I have visited. I had the brisket which was fatty and juicy (which is good). The Mac n'Cheese was some of best I have had in long time. Others at my table had chicken and ribs -- which they also liked and I will leave them to writing their own reviews. For dessert, I had a piece of their homemade Pecan pie -- one word - outstanding! Well worth the time. Stop #2 on the hop on - hop off bus. Beware - NOT open Mondays.

I am so happy Augie’s came up in my search for best BBQ in San Antonio as we wouldn’t have discovered it in a walkabout! It was delicious BBQ - very tender brisket with great flavor. Portion size was good - not too large. Side dishes were OK (although my 12-year-old thought the Mac and cheese came from heaven) but who cares about the sides when you’ve got brisket on your plate!?

Excellent brisket and sausage definitely better than any Bbq around the river walk. Check it out great staff to boot!

Food was great We ordered with door dash Potions are huge Our new favorite place Portions are huge and prepared very neat

We saw this place on our bus tour and also heard and read reviews on Trip Advisor about it. It was truly amazing. Meat was juicy and tender. I had brisket and hubs had the signature sandwich: deep fried brisket on a bun. Many sides to choose from.

You want bbq is San Antonio, this is the place to go. We eat at a lot of bbq places and you would not be disappointed nor go away hungry. Exceptional food. You will not be disappointed. We highly recommend this place.

We had the pleasure of eating at Augie's for lunch. The beef ribs and brisket were delicious! We don't get BBQ like this where we live in Minnesota! A special thank you to Sandra for her excellent customer service. We left Augie's full and happy! We will be back next time we visit San Antonio.

The bbq was really good and the portions were generous. Love the Barbed wire sauce and the staff was great. Good prices too.

The BEST BBQ!!! We had the Brisket sandwich cut right off a big slab of meat. We asked for it lean and they hand trimmed the fat off... Must do Bbq. Bldg doesn't look like much...

Hop on Hop off for two days touted this place as the best barbeque in San Antonio. It was not. I was very disappointed. It does not live up to reviews Food was not great, place was not clean I would not recommend, it is a tourist trap.

My husband and I split the 3-meat plate and two sides -- brisket, pulled pork, chicken, mac cheese and honey baked beans for $14.99. It was plenty for both of us, and was so good, I can honestly say it was the best I've ever eaten. They clearly know what they're doing.

Ribs and pulled pork were very good. The spicy beans were a good option as a side if you like a touch of heat. All of the food was hot when it arrived. The roads/area around the restaurant are being worked on so it looks like they may not be open but it is worth going. There is ample parking.

As I was staying around the convention center and next to the riverwalk, I was hoping to find some real Texas barbecue off the beaten path. Augie's delivers! A quick Uber ride or 15 minute walk gets you to this nondescript BBQ joint that smells amazing as soon as you open the door. The cafeteria style is very laid back, and the paper towel rolls on the table promise a good meal. The barbecue sauce was sweet and tangy, the meat was extra tender, and the sides were homestyle picnic good! I'd recommend the extra hike for some delicious, extra large portions of Texas barbecue at Augie's.

We were looking for some good BBQ in the city and most everyone we spoke to said you had to go outside the city for truely good BBQ but we didn't have a car so we landed at Augie's. It was really just ok. Nothing special or extremely delicious- just ok. The brisket was very dry. And, it did repeat on us all night. If we ever make it out to San Antonio again, we will definitely go outside the city for it.

The pork belly was amazing! Awesome and casual bbq place: everything was wonderful! Will be back soon!

We visited the Art Museum and this was nearby, so we went here by chance. The brisket was truly outstanding, incredible flavor. Loved the decorations, very Texas, a lot of fun, good service too.

Ventured away from my hotel and saw the star rating of this place on trip advisor. Tried the Brisket, Mac n cheese, and Borracho Beans. All were very good and the price was just right. The staff and owner were friendly and knowledgeable of the food they serve. I recommend this place.

Ordered beef ribs that cost $26.00 on the to go menu. We had heard good things about this place but ribs were horrible, tough, no meat. Huge disappointment. The lean brisket was better but overall entire dinner was disappointing. Potatoe salad was bland, cream corn was entirely too creamy. We are from SA and have tried many bbq places, unfortunately we will not return here nor will we recommend to anyone.

The food is great. This is a definite must in San Antonio. There is a good variety of food choices. My favorite was the lean brisket. It really hit the spot.

Limited seating area but great food and good prices! Just can't get enough! Good prices too! Only hiccup is that sometimes the more popular items may be gone before dinner time.

Absolutely brilliant. We were looking at another BBQ restaurant but felt it was massively overpriced and a tourist trap. We took the short 1 mile walk out to Augies and boy was it worth it. Such a friendly place and very reasonably priced. The burnt ends were probably the best I have ever had and the wife loved her chocolate beer (and my burnt ends). Great place and the staff are so welcoming: the legendary hospitality of Texas is alive and well at this joint. Cannot recommend highly enough.

For the moment we entered, you were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming worker who showed us around, where to order, and the menu selections. From there I knew this is going to be good. I had the sausage sandwich, and it was savory with the Tangy BBQ sauce. Just enough spice to jingle the taste buds with a nice touch of Mesquite smoke. I had pinto beans and macaroni and cheese for my sides. Extremely savory and rich in flavor! So if you're looking for some great barbecue outside the busy bees in downtown, come on over and enjoy, y'all!

Some of the best bbq of my life. Be sure to get the brisket. So tender and slow cooked, you really don’t even need a knife. The jalapeño sausage is also phenomenal. Don’t pass this place without stopping in.

Good place to eat, BBQ was good. A little over priced but they did give large portions of food. Large parking lot on site with free parking. Very friendly staff, would even let you try any of the food before purchasing. Would recommend.

We heard so much about Augie's being really good BBQ. We got the dark chicken and the beef brisket. The beef brisket was dry and the chicken just okay. Maybe we just didn't order the right meat. We love our smoked meats, as my husband is what I consider to be a "grill master" (he is modest and wouldn't go so far). Augie's didn't even compare. We definitely had better BBQ just outside of San Antonio at Cooper's or B-Daddy's.

We visited Angie’s for lunch on the wrecommendation of locals. I had some pretty high expectations. I had the pork ribs, my adult daughter had pulled pork sandwich, another adult daughter had the brisket, and my wife had the chicken. In short, the food was mushy and had nearly no taste except the flavoring of the BBQ sauce. We threw out most of our food. My wife’s chicken was ‘ok’. Sooooo disappointing. Would never go again even if they offered it for free. Bleh!

Wife and I were looking for some good Texas brisket while visiting San Antonio. Found Augie’s on Trip Advisor and decided to try. Augie’s did not disappoint. Very good brisket and sides. Brisket offered multiple ways i.e. Lean, Marbled, Mixed...... We got marbled and it was delicious! Mac and cheese is a great side too! Very casual atmosphere. Order at counter and they bring it to your table. Prices are very reasonable. BBQ plates with choice of meat and 2 sides $12.50-$14.00. 1 mile walk from San Antonio River Walk area. It’s worth the trip!

This eatery is just a stone’s throw away from the Japanese Tea Gardens. It’s a no-frills kind of place, but the BBQ & sides were quite yummy!

We were craving BBQ and went to this spot on a whim. I ordered the 3 meat plate (got brisket, regular sausage, jalapeño sausage, honey baked beans and borracho beans). My husband ordered the beef rib plate (with green beans and honey baked beans). The brisket was very fatty. I know regular brisket has fat but I had a small pile of fat and less meat. The meat that I did have was ok...nothing spectacular. The sausage left a lot to be desired. Tasted like your run-of-the-mill, store bought sausage...again, nothing spectacular. The sides were pretty flavorful though. I enjoyed the beans. Now, on to the beef ribs. So, I’m used to beef ribs looking like they came from a cow...sizable, meaty. These, looked like pork spare ribs..seriously. They had hardly any meat AT ALL. Not to mention, they were tooough!! The green beans were good...surprisingly. Overall, I’d say, one visit was good enough for me. It was alright but nothing I would run to get again.

Delicious! One of the best stops from our hop on/off bus tour. I had chicken and brisket that were tender and flavorful. The sides: creamed corn, green beans and mac & cheese, were really good too!!! Definite go to spot.

A tour guide told us this is the place to get the best authentic BBQ and we agree! The place seems to be packed with customers all the time. You line up to order from employees who scoop your choices onto a tray when you place your order. That's right, a tray - not a plate. The line clcan be very long, winding around the restaurant. Don't give up; the food is worth it. There is a lot of funky decor to look at and you can make friends with everyone in line. Order, grab your tray, pay, go find the condinent table and grab a seat. The pulled pork is awesome; everything is awesome! No table service, long wait to order and we didn't care. Worth it!

This place is quite a walk from the area of the Menger Hotel. We walked there but took a cab back. The food is really great! Its a very casual place. You stand in line and place your order. They fill the order (cafeteria style). Find a table and sit down to enjoy the best BBQ with excellent side dishes too. Worth it...

I realise it was the lunch rush, but there was no pulled pork, no green beans. The brisket was tasty, as was the corn and potato salad.

We went here because we heard about it on the hop on/hop off bus, and we read about it on Tripadvisor. We were greeted by Jesse upon entry and we were asked if we'd ever been there before. When we answered no, their entire process was explained and were were shown the menu, and they explained that they donate whatever is leftover at the end of the day to a local homeless agency. The service was very good and the food was awesome. We had the 3 meat combo with brisket and pulled pork with fries and beans and a cheese burger with fries. Jesse made the entire meal service amazing and is a great representation of the restaurant. We highly recommend this place to enjoy some BBQ and a relaxing ambiance.

This is a one-of-a-kind place. No chain bbq here. The ribs were best I have had. Amazing with or w/o their bbq sauce. Wife had a huge 1/2 lb burger. Great sides. Lots to choose from and reasonable prices. Get a platter. Worth it.

Parking ample. Sitting limited and a big deal made about moving tables together for a group of six. " Move chairs but not tables" Limited menu and sides. Very good sweet tea. Whole place needed a Spring clean and decluttering.

Not great had chicken and sausage plate. Food was warm at best. Pricey. Daughter food was cold. Only good thing could say is it smelled good. To bad food wasn’t.

Authentic oak/mesquite mix. The real deal. So glad our son noticed this as we were about to drive to a chain for lunch. Try some with / without sauce.

We met up with our niece and her husband who was stationed in SA and this is the spot we chose. Not in a polished part of town but that's not an issue and it's not that far from downtown. Some of the great finds of local foods are in gritty not yet up-and-coming locations. The building that houses this Augie's won't win any prizes and I'm talking inside and outside but then again you're going for the food which is way more important in my book. Once you figure out what you want you stand in line to order just like you would at Chipotle, the numerous fast pizza places like Pielogy, Blaze, Mod, etc. We sat in one of the banquettes and a couple Combos, a rib plate and an El Pablo, their grilled cheese & brisket sandwich. We had brisket, half a dark chicken, a pork rib plate, more brisket and pulled pork accompanied by mac n cheese, borracho beans, sweet potatoes, cole slaw and green beans. Between the four of us everything was polished off. The green beans were a miss but all the meat and other sides were spot on. There is so much BBQ variation worldwide and the interpretation of it from restaurant to restaurant makes you want to keep checking em out.

Great place for some good old bbq. All the fixens, including ribs, brisket and chicken. Nothing fancy, just good old delicious Texas BBQ. Located about a 1 mile from the river walk. Worthy of a $8.00 Uber ride.

Good prices! Best BBQ we got without spending $50! -Mac and cheese was so good! -brisket over cooked a little -cole slaw good! **only one BBQ sauce** I was okay with this my husband likes different options. Quick, cheap & clean!

Management: you have a good thing going here. The huge promo from the hop on bus line has to be a big shot in the arm for you. Our family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. While we’ve had better BBQ, the sides were off the charts yummy. (Creamy corn, honey baked beans, and super cheesy Mac & cheese). BUT for Pete’s sake, give the joint a facelift and a good scrub. Grungy on the exterior and interior. Cleanliness goes a long way with the patron.

Stopped by for lunch, glad we did. BBQ had great flavor and not too fatty. Portions are great for the price. If your looking for some good eats, make sure to stop by.

The food was amazing, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The portions are quite large making the meal a good bargain. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender. I ate them with a fork. There are several sides to choose from, and the three that we got (between my wife and me) were all very good. We both thought the BBQ sauce was the best we have ever eaten, and we have had BBQ at many places.

Brisket and pulled pork were the stars of the show. Honey baked beans and the Mac n cheese missed the mark. The frozen margaritas washed it all down. In an area that is under street construction and slightly sketchy. Bdrive or uber unless really close and its daytime. Typical honky-tonk looking inside. I'd return.

This place is not much to look at but it is a hidden gem! The pulled pork, brisket, and their BBQ sauce are all delicious. The staff was so nice and the prices are reasonable. This place is not somewhere you sit down and are waited on, its way more casual. You order at the counter and your food is served up immediately. I definitely recommend and if I ever make it back to San Antonio, would visit again!

This place was recommended by our Uber driver. I would say that by driving by, the building would not say “Come on in”. Once inside, we were greeted by a friendly staff member that explained the menu and made suggestions. It is cafeteria style. My husband and I ended up splitting a 3 meat platter (with 2 sides- we had the green beans and macaroni and cheese-both average). I’d say, their BBQ sauce was quite good. Ribs were great as was the pulled pork. The brisket was a bit soft and lacked elasticity. I was looking for cornbread and baked bean sides- which they didn’t have. Manager did visit out table to ask how things were- he offered a tour of their smoker house down the road but we had to leave. We were arrived here at about 1 pm on a Thursday and do not have to wait. Ample seating available as is a few options for beer.

I went here because of the reviews I found on T-A and was happy that I did. I was greeted when I entered and was asked if I'd ever been there. When I answered no, their entire process was explained to me (including the fact that they donate whatever is leftover to a local homeless support group), and I was directed where to line up for my order. The food was served quickly and it was delicious. I had the 2 meat combo with brisket and pulled pork with potato salad and cole slaw on the side. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. If I make my way back to San Antonio I'm definitely stopping by.

A little off the beaten path, but great BBQ is worth the trip. Prices were reasonable and food was excellent. Clean and friendly.

As a huge barbecue fan, I was really looking forward to Augie's on our trip to San Antonio. The staff was great and place is very cool, but the food was very disappointing. I ordered the rib combo, but found out they were out of pork ribs and pulled pork. I settled for the beef ribs and brisket. Both were very fatty and average, at best. The brisket was more like a fatty prime rib than brisket. The sides were pretty good. Overall, a disappointing experience.
Great Lunch Spot
Stopped after visiting Japanese Tea Garden. Smelled amazing. Had the brisket platter, husband had the sausage. Nice selection of sides to choose from. Everything was really delicious. Everyone was super friendly and prices were reasonable. I'd go back again.
