RELOCATED RESTAURANT WELCOMING OLD CUSTOMER

By rwfishermn |

Restaurant opened exactly one week before my visit. Nice facility but a lot darker than sister establishment BLT Steak which schedule to open in April. Seating was immediate upon arrival for our reservation. Hostess took coats. Had a table very close to bar serving station but other than a lot of traffic behind us not disturbing. For privacy would always prefer table deeper in dining room or on the balcony. Noisy but not terrible. Decent selective of wines by glass. Porthouse for two served three with leftovers. Chopped salad (Greek style) not as crisp as it should have been. Steak and creamed spinach was great. French fries of Mickey D style - easy served three - unless someone really wants them skip for $12. Service slowed as restaurant filled and it took a while for our coffees and check. Skipped desert. Would go back for a great steak but for the price they can do a bit better on the rest.

Very Good Steak House Cuisine

By ROBERT I |

Very Good but short of “Excellent”. This is a sophisticated environment where clients refuse to dress accordingly—not even business casual, but that is not the issue. The New York sirloin steaks were perfect. Good sides— Brussels sprouts, amazing mashed potatoes. Eggplant parmigiana was said to be “best ever.” The popovers are memorable and hard to resist. So the food was excellent, the service was predictable and adequate. But this place does not come together. There is a greeting hello and a goodbye thank you, but this place lacks spirit. It shows. One last question, why can’t I get a glass of Pinot Noir with the steak special? The Cabernet was fine but…..

Awesome Local Steakhouse

By Robert P N |

BLT prime is an awesome local steakhouse on the East Side. It feels like home when you walk in the door. The bar line up is a great spot if you can arrive early enough. With all the ambience and atmospheric the food is also pitch perfect. Loved it and will go again and again

THird Time Lucky

By Walter f |

I may be wrong but I think I have eaten in this venue - but when it wasn't BLT - twice before without enjoyment. NOW the BLT version has struck it - ambience is fine and you can even hear your dinner companion, nice folks and good food - all over it was enjoyable and will be back

Great food, Uncrowded tables without Noise

By richard a |

Yes, Virginia, there is a great restaurant in Manhattan where you can converse with members of your party at a round table without having to shout..Great New York Strip I could not finish, Reasonably priced wine list in that a Goldeneye Pinot Noir was $25.00 cheaper than price at Blue Ridge, a suburban Atlanta restaurant. Kudos to BLT. Service was attentive by lady waiters.

Needs improvement

By Herman G |

We have been going to this place for many years and different owners. Blt is very good food. Popovers are delicious and the steak came perfect temperature. The drinks are well prepared and come fast. Service is unfortunately terrible. The sides came when we had finished the main course. This makes the whole dinner experience quite negative.

Terrific Look, Terrific Service & Food

By LazyPoint |

LOCATION 1032 Lexington Avenue West side of street between 73rd & 74th street) BLT Prime looks like a restaurant that would appear in the TVseries Succession or Billions. Very, Very attractive with a terrific looking bar on the right as you enter. Wish people would dress up a bit. Most were well dressed but mixed in were a few tables of people who appeared to have wallowed out of their hovels wearing the same t-shirt, scabby plaid shirt, & distressing (not distressed) sneakers that they had slept in. That is no reflection on this restaurant. For god’s sake people dress up, especially for a terrific looking interior. SERVICE Very Good. Waiter was attentive and we did not wait to order, for food to be delivered, plates cleared or dessert/coffee to be proffered.
PRICE: 2 people, 2 drinks, 2 entree’s + Tax + Good Tip $194…..walked away well fed and planning to come back

WHAT WE HAD Steak Special $62 with 1 side (I had Brussel Sprouts w/bacon) and a glass of Cabernet. A well poured good Cab. A very good deal Our other order was the Scallops and they were terrific. Drink (Bootlegger Ragtime) was a decent size as was the wine pour (Brut Rose).
SOUND LEVEL Good. We were in the upstairs section (which would be a terrific area for a large party. COMMENTS It was one of our party’s birthday and they brought us 2 well poured glasses of Champagne/Sparkling Wine. A nice gesture on their part and also a nice Champagne/Sparkling wine. If you want to sit downstairs you should request that. Do come, and dress up a bit.

Great place

We have been going to this place for many years and different owners. Blt is very good food. Popovers are delicious and the steak came perfect temperature. The drinks are well prepared and come fast. Service is very good. All quite costly but for sure a great dinner. We will be back.

The server was snotty

By LISASTARRSTYLE |

Sooo Im a new yorker born and raised living in Texas most of the time. Well traveled. I eat only in BLT , Quality meats level restaurants.. while I enjoyed the meal at BLT , post half marathon celebration with friends.. we were treated like morons by our female server. Very unwilling to recommend or give friendly advice. .. about portion sizes etc. We were all put off by her attitude. The next night we ate at Laconda Verde where we had the best service and fun server ... people if your not happy doing your job dont do it !

An all around terrible dining experience

By delphi927 |

Dined here a couple weeks ago with family, and it was unquestionably one of the worst, most unimpressive meals I’ve ever had. For starters, our waitress (woman of possible Eastern European descent) was awful. She was unfriendly, inattentive, and incompetent - she should absolutely not be employed at a fine dining establishment, or, quite frankly, in any client facing position. Misinforming us of items that were available, and then “accidentally” bringing over an appetizer which we did not order (and was twice the price of the appetizer we’d wanted), and gave a completely insincere, half-a$$ed excuse/pseudo “apology”. Mistakes happens, but combine that with her extremely unpleasant attitude, incompetence, and poor service - not ok in a restaurant like BLT Prime. While the other members of the waitstaff with whom we interacted were more pleasant, the basic lack of decorum - i.e reaching directly over our plates as we were eating to move dishes and fill glasses - was uncomfortable. The appetizers were mediocre at best, and portions were small. My dover sole entree was completely disgusting, and inedible. The normally tender, delicious fish was cooked horribly - I couldn’t even cut into it - I truly regret not bringing this to the kitchen’s attention. While I can’t speak to the taste of my dining companion’s meals, I was equally unimpressed with the sides. Like the appetizers, they were minuscule, and disappointing. An extremely pricey meal, disappointing food, atrocious service - I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

First time surprise!

By Noush |

After escaping a horrendous UES Sushi trap last night sans food-see my post on that- I walked into BLT Prime I am not sure why...and oh so happy I did! The hostesses where lovely and seated me in the lounge. I was soon eating beautiful Malpeques martini in hand. I was also sent a delicious complimentary liver mousse with toast. Melissa ,one of the hostesses, who I later discovered is in fact the assistant GM, checked on me various times and the horrible night became a great one. So great I decided to have steak and another martini at the bar! I had the Cowboy bone-in ribeye. Perfectly cooked and amazing. Steve the bartender was chatty and his drinks were gorgeous. Yes, you can mess up a martini a thousand times over. Thank you to the whole team for turning my night around. I will be back soon!!

Excellent steakhouse and surprisely ...QUIET

By Monpetit |

We love good setaks, and BLT is usually our adress. As it is renovation we opt for the BLT prime : excellent choice. Steaks are excellent, the sides also. Dood appetizers and nice choice of desserts... And cherry on the cake, there is not that "excitation's atmosphere" you could fine in the midtown stekhouse where all the traders seemed find necesary to be in competition at who has the louder voice... Here, it is cosy..

The Best of Times and the Worst of Times

By Peter D |

I've been to this place about five times and eaten dinner at the bar. It took me two times to discover the Kansas City Cut which was the best steak I ever had in my life. I returned and twice more had great Kansas City steaks. Then. the fifth time the same steak arrived dry and unpalatable. This is a classic UES restaurants for wealthy preppies and their elders. Dress is casual and the bill is high and the Kansas City Steak may (or may) not send you to heaven

Outstanding Anniversary dinner!

By Liz R |

Just when you think customer service is dead and gone, you come to BLT Prime and meet Annie. Annie is the restaurant manager who no matter how busy the restaurant is for a Saturday night, manages to make her way to each and every table, ask if there’s anything she can help with, but best of all, takes the time to get to know the people at the table. By the time we left, Annie was our new best friend. My husband mentioned he was looking for a cigar bar/lounge in town and Annie went out of her way to find a couple locations for him. She made us feel welcome and taken care of, what an asset to this hidden gem of a restaurant. Our waiter Giovani, also just as amazing. He was taking care of several tables that night but made sure to make his way back to check in on us several times throughout the night. Now for the food, oh my! We started off with popovers that were absolutely delicious! Appetizers were great as was the steak and sides we ordered. But, the highlight of the night was the dessert, we had the Profiterole and that is a must when you visit this establishment. Thank you, Annie, for making our anniversary dinner feel so special, look forward to seeing you again next time we are in New York!

Excellent Steakhouse

At BLT Prime I ordered the Crab Cake for starters and then the Kansas City Cut Steak and both were exceptional. The restaurant had a great ambiance and the staff was very professional especially Joanne, Ari and Franck.

Wonderful Visit

By Francoise R |

My daughters and I spent a weekend in NYC. We had dinner at the BLT Prime. First of all our corner table was great, surrounded by wine. Our waiter Aldo was simply amazing!! He was so friendly and professional. He made the evening delightful. His suggestions were delicious. Our skirt steak and brazed short ribs were excellent. The profiterole was very good. Also suggested a special ‘mock tail’ for my pregnant daughter. It was very good. We were treated so very nicely and it made our visit very memorable. If you go ask for Aldo.

I wish they would figure it out

BLT Prime has the best steak and their popovers are amazing. I'd give them an Excellent rating for their food. However, their service has always been a problem and it seems never to get fixed. I live in the neighborhood, so I've eaten there several times both inside the restaurant and outside. They should also give up on their outdoor dining. It is located about half a block from the restaurant. The restaurant expected one waiter (!) to serve all the outdoor tables. He was running back and forth. I love the food but doubt I'll be back. It is good for large groups, but not if you are a couple sitting near one.

BLT IS A STEP BEYOND PRIMARY FOR A DIFFERENCE

By RON |

Sometimes it is different if you find something you did not expect. Naturally, there are good restaurants that can offer you steaks, chops and fresh fish. They do exist. And sometimes they try something unique for you to have. That is what happened when we walked into BLT PRIME for dinner. They had a twist to the menu by offering a special Italian Menu for the month. It was a smaller menu than usual with a good variety of things to have. When we stepped inside BLT Prime we knew it would be a nice place to visit. We did not expect we would actually be stepping inside of Rome. This was an experience we did not imagine here in New York. Having spent several weeks in Rome this year we knew what having Italian meals was all about. Fresh. Different. Items not offered in the typical Italian restaurant in the US. It was Italian. So, when we looked at the Italian menu we did not find items that were normal for the US. These were items you only find in Italy. When we were able to sit we were able to start something new. Both menus were brought to us. The usual menu and the Italian one for the time period. We decided to be different and go for the Italian. We wanted to give it a try. First they brought a way to start your cocktail with slices of freshly made bread and a spread of Chicken Liver Pate. Now, for those who always try pate we knew what to expect. Even having chicken liver during the holidays we knew what to expect. But to have this version of Chicken Liver Pate was new. It was fresh and tasty. Just enough to place on the crust and take a bite. It was perfect with an Aperol Spritz, a combination of Aperol, Prosecco and Club Soda. Fresh and refreshing. Perfect to start. We also had a glass of Vermentino, an Italian white wine from Tuscany. Vintage 2016. It also was refreshing and a complement to the pate. From there we were brought to a starter that BLT Prime is known for. The Popovers. These are made by Chef Crooks in-house. There were two. One for each of us. There was even a small card with the cooking recipe attached. Ideal to have and understand if you make it at home. This was freshly made and warm. It is a standard item we might have had from home, but this time there was the addition of gruyere cheese mixed in. This was wonderful. You would want it for breakfast. It was different. And each popover was large enough to share by two individuals. But they bring one popover for each person there. Enjoying a glass of wine was a way to have it. This was the beginning before the appetizers arrived. The first item up was the Prosciutto and Melon. But it was different. This is not as you normally get in New York. This was the way we had it when being in Rome for several weeks. It was purely Roman. It was made of prosciutto from Parma, thinly sliced melon all draped over homemade aged burrata, which is a version of mozzarella but softer and gentler. The prosciutto was seasoned and aged with a gentle taste and flavor. The melon was easy to eat and could have been a dessert itself. As for the burrata, being Italian I could have made this a meal with bread and wine alone. We also had a Carpaccio "Harry's Bar" , a famous location that is based in Venice. Having eaten in Harry's in Venice we knew what to expect. But here at BLT Prime they took it a step further. It is thinly sliced Filet Mignon that is topped with a lemon aioli, parmesan and some black pepper grissini. It even had some watercress that was freshly placed on top. Now, you can get this at a good Italian restaurant, but to have it this way was different. As we finished the appetizers, the entrees arrived. First was the Pappardelle Bolognese. This was fresh and made that day. It was hand-cut as pappardelle is a broader pasta noodle. It was definitely al dente. It was topped with a ragu of beef and rosemary. This is the way it is made in Rome. It is not covered with a red sauce. That is typical at other locations. This version is made as you find it in Rome. It is simply flavored with the ragu that is a good portion of the dish. It is easy to share between two, just as you find it overseas. Next a Breaded Veal Chop. This is a large, fresh piece of veal. It is cooked medium rare. It is moist and tasty. Not over seasoned. Just enough to make you enjoy the veal itself. It is placed upon a lemon-caper relish and a Tonnato Sauce, which combines tuna and anchovies with mayonnaise and garlic to produce a versatile touch to enhance the chop. Even after the meal there is time for a dessert. And a dessert you can share. We asked David, who helped us, his recommendation. It is always good to ask what they might have if they ordered. David recommended the Creme Brulee. It was warm. Fresh and tasty. You could taste the sugar flavor expected with it. The team is excellent. The chef is great. BLT Prime is a place to visit and enjoy. Prices are reasonable for where you are and what you will be offered. There is no rush when inside. BLT Prime is a prime.

Great to have a good steakhouse on the Upper East Side

By PSGumby |

So glad that BLT Prime moved to the Upper East Side. This steakhouse is as good as it gets. While expensive, the experience is excellent. With reservations, the greeting is warm and seating is fast with no wait. Pleasant bar area (good for a local drink for friends and business). Tables are comfortable and very well spaced for great conversation. Service is accomodating and fast. They are eager to please, making the meal very pleasant. Food is the star here. Portions are perfect. The meal starts with a popover service - they are wonderful and quite filling so be careful. Meat cooked exactly as ordered with a choice of sauces - we tried three and my favorite was the green peppercorn. Fillet Mignon was great and just the right size. NY strip was perfect. Sides are the usual steakhouse choices and are also excellent. Too full for dessert.

Lovely meal.

By vf12016 |

We had an amazing meal. Lovely atmosphere and the decor was lovely too. Staff were prompt and attentive and food was quick and very tasty. It is expensive, so don’t go here for a cheap meal, we skipped starters…we had 3 steaks and not the expensive ones, and 4 sides, 4 soft drinks, 1 mocktail and 2 beers, that was it and it fed 4 people (we cut the 12oz steak in half for our teens) and all that came to about $350, like I say not cheap but it was an amazing meal so if you don’t mind paying for it I would recommend. You can skip starters as they give you a complimentary Yorkshire pudding with whipped butter which was amazing but very filling. I would recommend this restaurant if you have some spare cash to spend. Lovely meal.

Worth the money

Great dinner with grandson

By tennisbum11746 |

Took grandson and his friend for a good dinner. The place is really nice. Caring staff. Menu has lots of choices. The steaks are great and can be shared between 2 people. They start you with hot BIG Popovers. They have an appetizer called Big bacon and boy is it Big. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were good. Waiters kept checking to see if we needed anything. They have a nice dessert menu but we were filled up from main course. Remember this is a steak house in New York City. Not cheap but worth it. Large selection of wines.

Unfortunately Not

By Skip_SS |

Sorry to see that BLT Steak on 57th Street is now closed for good, and unfortunately BLT Prime is way way off from taking its place in our list of favorites. The off-the-hinges service at this UES newcomer starting from its unwelcoming host at the door to the mystery quizzer frequenting tables is overwhelming.

BLT Prime & Beyond!

By Frederick V |

Our dinner meal at BLT Prime celebrated our first honeymoon dinner after our wedding ceremony. The atmosphere was, like the magnificently savory food, luscious beverages, and immaculate service, exquisitely and delightfully memorable. Our waitress, Jesse, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and patient. Our cocktails were mysterious, tantalizing and highly refreshening. We had the grand pleasure to welcome the actual chef, Poyee, to congratulate us on our nuptial ceremony and we had the unique opportunity to compliment her directly on the perfectly crafted and prepared steak, tuna tartar, duck wings, carrot raised free-range cut and the mouth-watering deserts and treats. Much memorable gratitude and positive acknowledgement to BLT, Jesse and Poyee for a most appreciated and delicious culinary/honeymoon experience.

Steak? This is the right place

By sola123 |

Did you say steak? in NYC? A very understated location from the outside, on a quiet part of Lexington Avenue, not , but worth the hike. We enjoyed a great welcome and hospitality and then the most amazing hot popovers appeared, huge, warm, with soft butter to tempt us. We had the tomahawk steak done perfectly, and served with three kinds of salt, roasted garlic and marrow bone on the plank. Also short ribs were tender with a delicious sauce. Generous servings, we could easily share a main with a few sides, making this more than reasonable. If you want steak in New York I recommend this is the place

Mistake-ridden dinner experience

By YandB_LabLover |

So much went wrong with our $800+ meal, no one at our table at 6 enjoyed the family gathering. Firstly, we had a very strong A/C draft at our table - how strong was the draft? Aside from everyone needing to eat in their jackets, the draft quickly flask-cooled our initially hot food. We were 1/2 way through our once hot pop-overs when they became refrigerated. Same thing happened after our entrees were serviced, The server had zero knowledge of the wine list, explaining that "any wine you choose from California will be good because I love California wines". 4 of the 6 at our table shared an expensive bottle of wine. After pouring 4 glasses, about 1 glassful remained in the bottle - and later in the meal - instead of replenishing each of the 4 wine classes, the server quickly poured all of the remaining wine into one glass, much to the dismay of the other 3 wine drinkers. So one person had 2 glasses, and 3 people had 1 glass of wine. My prime NY Strip was 75% edible, 25% grizzle cooked rare instead of medium as an example. It took way too long after the entrees were served to be provided with steak knives given our several requests. We sat there staring at each other while our dinners cooled. The wait between courses was extreme taking almost 2 hours, in the cold, to be served salads, popovers and our main courses with sides. (They mistakenly served creamed spinach instead of steamed spinach - so that had to be corrected). The experience took so long and was so mistake ridden, that nobody wanted to order coffee or dessert - everyone just wanted leave. With so many options for really good steakhouses, we won't be back.

Great Food with a few hiccups

By bobboles |

First of all, the food at BLT Prime is as good if not better than any other steakhouse in NYC, and we've been to many. The location is a huge plus, especially if you live in the Upper East Side! Starting with gigantic, amazingly tasty popovers, the serving size is tremendous. If you leave hungry, it's your fault. The ambiance is wonderful, tables are spaced so no one feels crowded and the noise level is acceptable for a steakhouse atmosphere. There were, however, a few hiccups. Although our server was friendly and knowledgable, we had to flag her or someone else down several times when we needed something as simple as water refills. There was a rubber band in one of our salads, so a manager (? he never introduced himself) took it away and brought us a few sides on the house. My ribeye was near perfect, and the other dishes (two filets and a New York Strip) were terrific. Potato skins side was great, nice and crispy. Desserts were also stars, portion sizes were huge, and an extra was brought for us to taste. When the check came, however, there was a $64 charge for complimentary champagne that was brought out first, as well as a $12 charge for an additional order of potato skins that were never ordered. These are simple things that should never be an issue, and could easily have been overlooked if we were not diligent. Lastly, there seemed to be lots of staff, including what appeared to be at least four manager types, constantly moving around the room, but yet service was a bit slow and inattentive at times. We will most certainly return as the food was sensational, and these are really only minor issues! Overall, a great addition to the Upper East Side!

Not Worth the HYPE!

By ginnycowan64 |

We waited more than 30 minutes on a Thursday night before anyone even took our drink order. Only because we complained and asked to be moved off the balcony away from a table of 20 to downstairs where we might get some service. The manager apologized and said he would take care of us. We placed our order, the appetizers came out fairly quickly as did the entrees while we were still working on the starters. At that point it felt rushed. The chopped salad was very good, properly dressed-the feta delicious. The filet mignon was okay-a bit stringy. We ordered three sides: French fries that were crispy and delicious, sweet potatoes which were a somewhat overly sweet and asparagus that was slightly overcooked but had a nice presentation. The star of the show were the popovers, warm crispy and made even more sublime by the addition of a spread of butter. We ordered chocolate cake to share for dessert. It was fine though gigantic and most of it remained uneaten. Normally we would have had several rounds of drinks but due to the lack of service we had exactly one round. Their loss. For the prices they charge we expected a much better experience than we received. As people who live within a block of the restaurant I am sorry to say we will not be returning. Back to Orsay.

BLT NOT PRIME

By UESstar |

BLT Prime on Lexington Avenue, on the UES, has always been a favorite of mine, both in terms of food as well as service. I was surprisingly disappointed by an unsatisfactory experience on the evening of Saturday, January 11th. My friend and I were hoping to have dinner at the bar, but it was completely full. The front-of-house greeter did an excellent job of trying to secure two seats at the bar or the first available table in the dining room. While waiting, we ordered two bourbon cocktails and were eventually seated in the dining room. The waiter was not very attentive, taking far too long to bring our ordered wine to the table, as well as paying little attention to detail. At the end of our meal, the waiter had disappeared and the manager perfunctorily asked if everything was okay. While reviewing our bill, we noticed that the two small bourbon cocktails were each $28, far higher than is custom in New York Cty. When questioned by us, the manager nastily replied "That's not my area, so I don't know what to tell you." The lack of professionalism and unwillingness to receive a perfectly reasonable, critical comment resulted in a very unpleasant end to the evening. With all of the steakhouse options in NYC, I will not be returning any time soon. I do hope that every effort is made to improve the level of service accorded to those dining here.
