Worth a look

By Jamie B |

This is a fun spot for a drink and an amazing view. I didn't love Lebain the downstairs area and found it to be better early. It got very popular as the night went on and got a bit full for my liking.

Difficult waitress = unfortunate service

By DaveMD17 |

We felt terrible for our waitress at The Top of The Standard. My wife and I and other guests were treated to a roller coaster ride when she would turn from nice to nasty at a drop of a hat. We work with adults with self-esteem struggles and recognized them with her. Her manner was passive aggressive and all her tables were looking at each other in puzzlement. We hope The Standard Hotel offers its employees mental health assistance and an opportunity to work back of house until their struggles are eased. nk

Come for the cocktails, food and view

By JAndrewL |

The Boom Boom Room is another one of my NYC staples. The food is reliably good, the bartenders make delicious cocktails, the service is great and you have this view of NYC. It’s not loud and obnoxious, just a civilized place to imbibe in The Meatpacking district. Check out the bathrooms because they’re quite stunning. Armando is also the best at helping you out there too.

Great Gatsby in NYC

By Jon Feinstein |

I surprised my wife with drinks and tapas at the Top of the Standard for a night out in the city. It surpassed my expecations, and completely delighted her. We loved the gold tones, the ambience, views of NYC, and the live, gentle music. The food was outstanding. OUTSTANDING. ...and the vibe just made everything perfect. Highly recommended.

Loved the view and drinks

By Jamal164 |

We went for the view and were able to snag bar seats within 15 minutes. Christopher is a fabulous bartender and recommended A Girl's Best Friend. Yummy. He also makes a mean Lemon Drop. The view is impressive and watching the staff and their attire is a sight itself. Make sure you check out the bathroom.

Wow!

By Elisabeth K |

Came here to watch the sunset on a sunny day! And, wow, what a view! We ordered a bottle and some vegetables chips and sat in the lounge sofas as the sun set. Amazing!

Beautiful even in rough weather

By BobPhibbs |

Had an amazing time last week at the top of the Standard. All the servers were excellent, drinks strong and food while smaller portions delicious. The trio with singer provided just the right atmosphere - not too loud or noticeable. Highly recommend.

Predinner drinks with a view

By Karen & Rob Chiasson |

Excellent spot for a predinner drink. Large windows provide spectacular views of the city. Apperol Spritz made with champagne which was delicious. Nice selection of cocktails. Be sure to check out the unique restrooms. A must stop when in NYC.

Excellent for a predinner drink. Amazing views and cocktails and great jazz. Enjoyed and would recommend

Beware the hostess!

By IAHGVA |

Gorgeous space atop the Standard unfortunately watched over by rude, racist and ignorant holier-than-thou hostess. We arrived at the antichambre of the gorgeous bar through what is maybe the nicest elevator ride I have encountered (not counting glass elevators obviously). And the "nice" stopped there unfortunately. We were looked up and down by the rude, unsmiling (this is NYC) hostess, with the holier-than-though attitude straight out of the perfume counter of a provincial department store, who asked us to check in our casual jacket (!) and challenged the dressing code of my partner, asking whether it was a sportswear...!!!?!? We were a bit astonished and speechless. She argued that they did not allow sportswear inside. Ok, could make sense (though odd in 21st century NYC especially at the Standard hotel, which is all but standard. We are used to the LA Standard but maybe the NY version wants to be more formal) but my partner had nothing on resembling anything like sportswear (we just came back from the Whitney collection) and if you cannot recognize designer wear from sportswear, stick with the perfume counter darling. After seeing our puzzled face, she reluctantly let us in. Gorgeous space inside indeed but maybe 4 tables out of 20+ with people on them, all the other with a "reserved" sign. It was close to 6pm. The tiny bar was also without free chair and the space just does not allow standing well especially when there was so many table free. I was asked to check back with the hostess for a table to which she replied to me with the expected condescending tone "we are fully committed today"...... of course, sure.... we decided to leave, as it was visibly what she was trying to do from the start, and when getting our stuff back from the coat check I noticed a man wearing tennis shoes entering without issue the bar. I now suspect the holier-than-thou hostess did have an undisclosed issue with my Hispanic partner as the whole sportswear pretense did not hold up anymore. And besides the sole fact that he was Hispanic I just cannot wrap my head around any other reason as we were quite conservatively dressed. I thought we were maybe not fashionable enough, but the few tables inside were not fashionistas either. And I finally doubt my French accent had anything to do, especially in cosmopolitan NYC. So coming back to her attitude with my partner, I can only conclude she had an issue with him being Hispanic. We experienced a bit of this in upscale fine dining places in the South, but in NYC, it is quite unexpected. No thanks, won't be back. Ended up at the very nice and so much friendlier Fig & Olive next door.

What a view!

By traveldays2000 |

Booked a window table and we weren't disappointed! Wow, what a view! Expensive drinks but worth it as a once off. Lovely atmosphere, live jazz music playing in the bar. Definitely a Gatsby feel about the place. Even the toilets had a wonderful view! Fab place, definitely recommend a visit.

Stunning restaurant with stunning views

By Franck2.0 |

This was our first visit to New York and we were truly glad we made the trip here. The decoration is very glamorous. It truly felt like New York city. The views from windows are amazing. We got a good view of the sunset which was breathtaking. We will definitely be back here on our next New York trip.

Amazing views!!

By Rosie H |

Went for drinks with my husband before dinner...what can I say...360 degree view of NYC with floor to ceiling windows! Fun drinks menu and great appys menu! The hostesses and servers were not only beautiful, but very nice. The only downside was the bathrooms.Although they also had a great view, they were unisex and dark, and bc they were dark, found to be a bit messy. Make sure you make a reservations to get a table!

Amazing Bar

By Ryan H |

This is a cool spot with fantastic views and tasty drinks. I found the service to be on point. The hostess and waitress were friendly and got us a table for four quickly. No long wait. Try an old fashioned. Pretty good.

For Events This Venue is Wretched

By Chris L |

Came here for a work event, so my review is specific to that. I have not been here for dinner and cocktails outside of that. First, as everyone says, the views are incredible. And they are correct! And the rooftop is great! Except for that they allow smoking up there. But that is where the good ends. The decor is trash. The 70s carpet has seen more spills than BP. There is some nice lighting, but nothing that takes away from the horribleness of the carpet and surrounding decor. The service was abysmal. Bartenders were slow and the food waiters couldn't keep up. A tray of food would come out and it would be gone before the waiter went 5 feet. And then 10 minutes before another came out. We ended up leaving after 30 minutes. We left an exclusive open bar event because the service was so bad. Let that sink in. I could attribute the horribleness to the event organizers, but the event space ultimately controls the staff and food/drink. And it was clear they underperformed at every opportunity. Visit for dinner and drinks and the view, just don't hold your event here.

fantastic views

By Gaurav C |

the place has fantastic views and certainly of the best ones...we made booking in advance..the drinks were superb ...the passion fruit mock-tail was particularly good...we were comfortably seated in a place which had an amazing views of the NYC skyline and the river...

very fun

This is a very fun spot in meatpacking. Tip, dress well here as many people come here to see and to be seen. Never know who you're going to spot.

Top service at Top of The Standard!

By Richard S |

This was quite simply the very best experience in New York during our holiday in the US and Mexico. From the initial welcome, friendly atmosphere and the truly wonderful customer service from Server Mike who was fun, professional and ensured every attention to detail - including a fab selfie! His knowledge of the drinks menu, suggestions and local knowledge was truly superb. The views, comfort, style of the surroundings and overall experience made this such a superb part of our trip.

Drinks with friends

By OC345 |

Classy & fancy, great views (really stunning views from the 18th floor), top notch service and quality drinks. The price you pay here is worth it. To top it off, there was live music played to complete the ideal ambience. This bar was great for our 3-hr “pregame” before heading to dinner. Along with the drinks, we had the Korean chicken, fries and a cheese plate to nibble on. You do need a reservation as it is popular; you may get lucky getting seats at the bar but I wouldn’t risk it. P.s. if you have to go to the bathroom, it will be an experience you won’t forget! :-)

Cocktails are not good enough for such a stunning place

By sugarbrownsugarbrown |

I really recommend to go, the place is Stunning with an amazing view of the city. People are quite relaxed! Qualitative alcohol but to be honest drinks were not so good..we took a mojito and a gin tonic and I would have expected more!

Hip Bar With Amazing Views of Manhattan!!

By James L |

The bar is another must see, inside and out! The views are excellent and the atmosphere is as well! Visit the individual bathrooms for a floor to ceiling view of the City.

Possibly one of the best rooftop bars in NYC

By long4thebest63 |

This rooftop bar has a limited food menu and small bar but the views are great. The service is just adequate because I think they under staff. Staff is friendly. Look down the Hudson to see the Stature of Liberty (a bit small from this distance). View of the Freedom Tower is also amazing. If you go to the north side there is smoking which allowed me to enjoy a cigar.

A happy accident - thanks Jade

By Work G |

I wrapped up dinner and was about to head home early when Jade, a manager, suggested The Top of The Standard. I had no idea there was a club upstairs! Good music, good vibe and I even burned off some calories dancing! :D

Special occasion spot

By Erin_elizabeth882 |

My mom and I were visiting NYC and went to The Top of the Standard for a special drink after my birthday dinner (on a Sunday night). It definitely fit the bill in terms of feeling very special. The decor and view is beautiful and magical in the evening. Make sure to stop in the bathroom. My jaw dropped when I went in. I would probably check out different bars for a special occasion next time primarily because we felt rather out of place and found the general atmosphere a bit snooty (which I suppose is sometimes something to be expected in such a place). When we arrived, they asked if we had a reservations which we did not, but they let us in anyway and informed us we would either need to check our coats or keep them on and we could not drop them over the back of our chairs (this is when we knew we were out of our league). When we went in, the bar was stunning but upon looking around all of the empty tables and chairs had reserved signs and the bar was full. My mom almost made us walk out because she felt uncomfortable and we certainly didn’t want to stand to have a drink. I asked the bartender (who was very kind and polite) if all the tables were truly full. He said to talk to the hostess. So we trotted back out and asked the hostess if any of the reserved tables were available. She brought us back in and seated us at a table away from the hubbub with a stellar view of the city. We were glad to have our backs to the rest of the much hipper crowd so we could enjoy our view and special occasion drink without feeling out of place. The drink I had was well made, strong and expensive. Overall, we enjoyed our experience being a little out of our element in such a fancy place!

Breathtaking

By Michy312595 |

Never in my life have I experienced a venue as unforgettable as this! Drop Dead Gorgeous, Views of Manhattan from every full length window including the Loo! The barmen was also really accommodating, friendly & I have to say I couldn't fault the service. We ordered some bar food, which admittedly was a really small snack for your money, but would I go back Hell Yes! Am I broke for going Absolutely! But the memories will last a lifetime! Don't miss this awesome rooftop bar, it's beautifully decorated and well worth the visit!

Incredible decor and decor

By Cedar32 |

Great place to have a drink, enjoy the view, see beautiful people and listen to great music. This was my second visit. The appetizers are generous enough to make up for a meal if you order two or three. If you really want to have a larger dinner reserve the grill downstairs as well.

Out of time & Glamorous.

By Phil A |

High-end luxury atmosphere and excellent cocktails. Try the pornstar Martini while enjoying the panoramic view. Make sure to visit the open rooftop. I would generally stop by there to relax a bit after a champagne brunch in Meatpacking. district.

Good experience, but is not jazz session

By Lisbeth R |

The drinks are very good. Too expensive and they are not offering jazz as they described on their website.

Great rooftop and service

By Mercedes E |

My friend and I came here July 4th in the afternoon. We were at Le Bain but it seemed like lots of young, drunk college kids so we ventured over to the Boom Boom Room. The views are amazing, the decor is quintessential NYC elegance. Food and drinks are slightly more expensive ($16 for a cocktail) but the views and quality is there. Will definitely return on a special night out with friends or date.

Lovely views but rude staff member

By Emily E |

Myself and friends went to the Standard hotel as it was recommended to us in our guidebook as a good rooftop bar. However, we had a very rude encounter with a staff member at the bag check. He didnt let me take my camera up to the rooftop bar and didnt explain why. I would have be fine with it if he had explained why. He also commented on a friend bag that they were checking in (it was plastic). He made a comment like ‘look at what these guys are checking in’ and scoffed to another member of staff. Once up on the rooftop bar the experience was good and the waitress was good and very helpful (even providing a mocktail that was not on the menu for a non drinking friend). Lots of people taking photos on their phones so I didn’t understand why my camera was not allowed - it is a small camera. The service at the bag drop put a damper on the whole thing unfortunately. We spoke to management but they weren’t that helpful.

Great views, lovely decor, waiter needs to cheer up.

By Angela |

Visited the top of the standard for drinks after a friend recommended this bar for the excellent views and atmosphere. I could not disagree with her, when we arrived we were met by James Bond themed gorgeous girls and were shown to our reserved table. We wanted drinks only and were introduced to our waiter. He gave us a fake grin, took our drink order and that was about all the interaction we had with him. The views were fabulous, the band playing back ground tunes were great, the place was busy and loved the overall decor and atmosphere. Only gripe is the waiter, not impressed but it didn’t spoil our evening. Not sure if I would go back but if you want expensive drinks but with a great view go for it.

The views make the price worth it.

By beckyfleming2017 |

The food was okay, but the views and the sunset is so beautiful I grabed some beautiful shots I even used it as my facebook profile pic! me and my boy, love the place so much.

Ignorant door staff

By DanMcGuigan |

Incredibly ignorant door staff, wouldn’t accept a picture of a passport, instead of articulating this like normal people decided to behave as if they had unfortunately happened across some dog faeces.

Top service

By citajanira |

I took my in laws to see the amazing view and food the top of the standard has to offer . Food was great as always and service was everything thank you Lilly and Lina for making it such a special night for me and my family .

Great spot, top of the world for a drink

By Notorius66 |

This place rocks if you can get in. Cool crowd, pleasant staff. Amazing views. Good selection of all types of booze

Great View, Beautiful Decor, Glamorous Clientele

By Girl Uninterrupted |

My Boyfriend and I planned on having drinks at the Top of the Standard to celebrate his birthday, as part of our staycation in the Standard High Line hotel. We were told by the front desk of the hotel that we were to get to the bar by 8.30pm at the latest, and not get out thereafter as re-entry is near impossible (after 9pm). We made the mistake of leaving 5 minutes after our arrival at the bar as it was really empty at that point in time, and we stupidly went back to our room for a bit to guzzle champagne and wait for the crowd to pick up. However, when we went back 30 minutes later, the entryway to the bar had shifted from the main entrance at the top floor of the hotel to the side entrance of the hotel, and they actually denied us entry as we weren't on the guest list of the so-called 500-person private party that was going on that night. We were very well dressed too, which means that if you're not rich and/or famous you're not good enough to be let in. What a complete waste of a night with rude, snobbish, arrogant staff (these were the staff who were on duty after 9pm). The next day, upon checking out of the hotel at noon, we decided to try our luck once again. This time, we were allowed in - we were the only customers there and the service was pretty good - a far cry from the outrageous snobbery we had experienced the night before. The view was amazing and the cocktails were pretty decent, but it's not a place I'll go back to anytime soon. How I rated them: 1 star because of the staff's haughtiness (those that were on duty after 9pm at the entrance by the side of the hotel)

Mixed feelings

By ADWL71 |

So this is an interesting one to write a review of. We booked based on recommendations from a few people. It has to be said, the views are excellent even in the bathroom facilities (make sure you use them even if you don't need too!) and there is a relaxed atmosphere about the place especially with the excellent jazz accompaniment we had. However it does feel a little as though they are relying on their reputation and word of mouth and not necessarily enhancing it. Ordered gin and tonic to start, but the only tonic we were offered was either out of the mixer tap, or San Pellegrino sparkling water, not San Pellegrino tonic water - we double checked! Wine starts at $80 a bottle, so quite pricey but you don't mind quite as much if it gets poured for you, which it didn't. We ordered a couple of plates of food which were good quality and tasty but the waiting staff did start to clear whilst we were still eating! Ultimately I would recommend going, but think it is overpriced and under serviced and you don't need to go back more then once... oh and take your own tonic water!

Great location comfortable bed friendly staff free bikes

By historymanky |

I had a great time at this hotel. The location is perfect right on top of the Highline and next to the whitney adjacent to Chelsea market and a short walk to Greenwich Village. They have bikes there that are free to guests and we use those to roam the area. The staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel definitely has a trendy and useful vibe and noise was not a problem on my 10th floor room. There is a little lack of privacy if you are staying with teens because the shower has a complete see-through wall Great visit and would certainly stay again

Best view in New York City

By emgreenwich |

I have been to a lot of the high up bars in New York and I think this is my favourite. Done up in art deco style and the model like waitresses add to the experience but the view is what you go for. Reserve for table in the window or if no reservation then sit at the bar (if you're lucky) and head to the rooftop for free. Champagne $22 per glass. Cocktails about the same. P.s make sure you go to the toilet

Fun trip to NY

By Melina M |

Always love eating here. Great food and good service! Had a friend visiting from Scotland who will definitely come back.

Five star view but only 2/3 star service

By t-rexx687 |

Worth coming here for the view alone - it's fabulous, whether you're looking south to the World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty, or up towards the Empire State Building. However, the service was a bit shabby when we visited - it was about 10:30 on a Sunday evening and less than half the tables with the best views were taken, yet the lady who greeted us seemed to take offence that we didn't have a reservation and said rudely that we had to sit at the bar. As it was so quiet then I found another waitress and asked if we could have a table with a view and she said 'of course'! The wait for someone to take our order was then 10+ minutes and then another similar wait for the drinks to be served (again, it was very quiet). My wife couldn't drink alcohol and although there weren't any mocktails/virgin cocktails on the menu then the staff were happy to make one for her... however, I don't think that the $16 we were charged for this was reasonable at all. I can understand the $18 charge for my 'rumble in the jungle' based on the view, but $16 for some juice was ridiculous and showed little common sense! This place is still well worth a visit for the view... nevertheless, I think they should improve their service here.

The most fantastic hotel bar I've seen

By Dom1963 |

Incredible views, list of cocktails is longer than the holy bible, excellent music, beautiful clients and gorgeous waitresses. Just perfect.

Absolutely loved it

By Amy S |

I have been to the bar here twice and I literally tell everyone going to New York to go here I absolutely love it! The only issue I have is when they look you up and down to check you are cool/pretty/rich enough to visit - although they don’t seem to be turning anyone away that I have seen, there definitely feels like there is some kind of sneaky selection going on- but don’t let it put you off as it’s worth the check at your clothes for the view alone! The view of the river is wicked, especially in the evening. The live music is a lovely touch but most of all I just love the decor, the bar in the middle makes you feel like you are in a bond movie and the drinks and snacks are gorgeously presented and so good! Loved sitting at the bar both times and will definitely go again. Go here for at least one drink before you start your night out , it’s a really cool way to start your evening!

Christmas Jazz Night

By Tat_Tatchai |

We went there on Christmas Day. Booked ahead so we get very nice table with Hudson River View. The food, service, ambience, music were really good.

Come for the view & live jazz music!

By Aziza95 |

Impressive coctailbar with magnificent views over Downtown Manhattan, Hudson River & New Jersey. Call to make a reservation, or walk in for a seat at the buzzing bar. Friday cocktail hour has live jazz music. Take the dress code into account. Snobby waiters at the bar; service could be better.

Go for.... the view

By emfal |

No wonder this place offers a great view on the city. And in this aspect the restrooms are a must see! Beyond this drinks are normally expensive for the city. 20$ something. You can also get small bites - but really lacking generosity given their price. Service is ok but not super warm...... also to be noted : yesterday night the rooftop closed at 11:30pm and the bar at 12:30.... so don't expect a crazy night up there. Also very loud.....

Unnecessarily Snarky

By car0linatravel |

I recently popped in after a long day of shopping with my 21 year old daughter who had always wanted to visit The top of the Standard. We were met by an extremely unwelcoming, gold lamée clad, model-esque young woman. We were both dressed in couture clothing, designer tennis shoes, but we were summarily snubbed from head to toe. We were told that we were not dressed appropriately to enter this upscale establishment. After being told to zip up my (very nice) Veronica Beard blazer, we were told we could enter but there was not seating available. We stayed for the view and one drink and were amazed at a gentleman sauntering in wearing a sweatsuit. The staff at The Top of the Standard will always stand out in my mind as unwelcoming, unnecessarily judgmental and needing to get over them (gold lamée) selves.

Standing on top of the

By ramonknows |

Great views! We stopped here after enjoying dinner at Megu. Service, ambience, service and VIEWS are amazing! I highly recommend the Top Of The Standard! Last year (2016) we celebrated New Years here and had a great time, Niles Rogers performed and it was an amazing show!

Very cool Great Gatsby meets Hells kitchen!

By Jim L |

Had a great time after a wonderful dinner at Catch. We went here for drinks and desert and we were not disappointed. Seated right away at a cocktail table with a killer view tucked away behind the piano. Wife had a chocholate cake covered in gold flake and I had their frooty something which was fresh cream, ice cream and fresh diced fruit. Outstanding!! Just when it couldnt get better (a few cocktails later) the 95 yr old Owners mother get up and sits down in front of the piano and starts playing beautiful music. We could have been at a speakeasy above the Manhattan skyline! What a wonderful evening!!

Nice view

By Kathryn C |

The food is just ok, the place has a nice view but the service we have had better elsewhere. There are nicer decorated places that i would suggest seeing.

Horrible

By didiberry |

This it was the worst place I’ve ever been in my life. The hostess was SO unpolite with me and my friends. I was at the hotel and I asked if I could go to the bar, and the hostess asked me if I had a reservation, I said “no I don’t, but is it full?” And she answered me right away: “it doesn’t matter, that’s not your business as you don’t have reservation”. I’m not kidding. OMG I got shocked, what kinda of service is there in this place ??? Poor place, poor service, unpolite hostess and I would NEVER recommend it to ANYONE. Clients with a high level expectation run away from this poor service place !

The fight to save a special night from becoming a nightmare. I was so disappointed at the aggravation we experienced.

By TheTravelGuru |

The top of the Standard’ is one of my favorite places in New York so although my night was rough I can’t bare to give this a bad review however maybe upper management can make the necessary changes to insure a smooth reservation. I booked a reservation two weeks in advance for a 30th birthday party and I booked a specific location in the restaurant however when we arrived I was informed that my area was no longer available and the initial place they wanted to place us was behind the band. This was unacceptable on every level and I was not going for it at all I asked for the manager who did not want to see my countless emails that insured where my seating was supposed to be after a strong back and forth conversation I was told they didn’t receive that messaging on their end and after a wait we were placed in the right section. I understand that places get overbooked or things happen however if I had just accepted it or stormed out our night would have been totally ruined because they were ready to seat us anywhere they could . I was super disappointed in the beginning but as the night progressed and the champagne poured our waitress made sure we were in good spirits. I can say the manager sent a glass of champagne for our troubles however those who are long time customers and who take the proper steps of showing up on time and booking ahead of time should never go through this aggravation. I hope that my next reservation will not test my patience or stress me out before a momentous occasion.

Not exclusive

By Virginia S |

The roof top bar serves wine in glasses fit for water and the service was horrible totally absent. We had to ask for forks and knife . The view is obviously great but the bar is not well organised so not worth the price.

Bang average!

By Hardeep N |

People only come to this bar because of the views, and the hotel staff would be better Off to realise that and not act so pretentious. They serve beer (tiny cans of it for $8!) in plastic cups and their bar staff can’t pour them without managing 3/4 head. It’s freezing at the top and yet they INSIST on taking any outside jackets from you! The views are great, that’s the only reason this gets a 3 and not a 2!

Amazing

By Toutptitchat |

Don't miss this bar, this is simply incredible! The view on Manhattan is wonderful. (The price for a cocktail is approximately $20)

Great views, but shabby deco

By stephan j |

The views are fantastic and the drinks not bad. Having said that, the room looks tired and the deco very shabby. Still, worth going there for sunsets.

First visit. Amazing

By Chris- Flintshire- North Wales |

Whilst visiting NY from the UK this location was recommended so booked a couple of weeks prior to arrival and very impressed. Yes the drinks and small portions of food are expensive but the layout of the seating and drinking area and of course the views are the reasons why. Awesome views and pleasant friendly staff. Would highly recommend any visit just for the experience which is on the roof of the 18th floor.

Great views

By Philip E |

Great views, wonderful design. Hostesses need to professionalize and look less bored. Food was good, though very limited menu. Main dining room has great setting, and the roof is accessible from this venue. Roof is more of a trendy hipster bar with astounding views over Manhattan.

Great view but totally unprofessional employers

By yummidu |

We were very delighted to spend our time there after a good dinner. (2nd of January) We came up to the bar and there were two door men and one hostess. They did not welcome us and did not assist us. We asked how it works there and if we could get in for a drink, they explained us in a very unprofessional and unfriendly way. Why is there a men at the door, when he is not able to open the door for the guests? He stant there and did not say hello or goodbay or anything else and this is definitly not how you treat guests. When we leaved nobody was saying goodbye or something else. They are not attentive in this bar and you have to ask for everything by yourself. She do not ask if you are happy or if you would like to get another drink. I do not unterstand, how people are working at the front, when they do not have one smile for guests. They should assist at any time and do the best for the visitors to make them an unforgetable experience. The view is totally worth it and the man at bar and the man at garderobe are really friendly. Those two were the only ones where are trying to make the guests happy. Drinks are good as well.

Beautiful view, nice cocktail , amazing rooftop

By Jerome |

Excellent rooftop ! Very nice cocktail! Top design ! Wonderful view of the skyline We highly recommend it.

One for the Beautiful People, Beautiful place, view and people.

By Robert D |

This is a fun place to visit - the female staff seems to be composed of future super-models and the view of the Hudson is terrific. It is very expensive and you should go well dressed (at least casual chic) but it is a really cool place. Be sure to check out the bathrooms. They have a window that leaves one to wonder. The drinks are well made and interesting cocktails and everything is breathtakingly expensive but if you are looking at where the beautiful people go this is one stop on the tour and worth a visit.

Is All Saints and cords not cool enough for you?

By NeelSaps |

Terrible dress policy!!! Being from London and knowing what to wear when, I was shocked the huge hostess said my All Saints look was not up to par. I was taking a flight later this evening hence dressing comfortably and my wife was wearing a black dress. Will never go back and will recommend none of my friends or family go here. Need to train your staff and recognise what's important.

Top experience

By Nadia W |

If you are looking for a special place for drinks, with great cocktails, super ambiance and a killer view then this is the place. It’s best to book if you want a table otherwise just go there and enjoy the experience.

Love every minute of the TOP of the Standard!!!

By msdet1529 |

We came here by 5:00pm on a Saturday and we got a window table with two seats with no reservations that over look the Hudson River, and the West Side Highway. The place wasn’t crowded and the jazz band was just getting there and setting up. A couple of nice cocktails before our dinner somewhere else in the city and and we were in heaven!!! We also ordered the KFC tapas style bites, no, not the Kentucky Colonel, Korean Fried Chicken, and the cheese plate. Nice spicy little chicken nuggets with a slight kick and the cheese dish was soft, creamy and well blended with the sugar coated walnuts, beehive honey, and the nice crunchy crustini. Nice bar, attractive little tables, nice gold decor, and the wait staff was dressed to the T’s. We both loved it and we will be back!!! Cheers!!!🍸🍸🍸🍺🍺🍺

The burger was great as was the duck sliders. We sat at the window facing south and had memorable view of the Freedom Tower and lower Manhattan as the evening came on. Given the great view and good food I would highly recommend you do this if you get the chance.

Date night

By wendychan88 |

Thoroughly enjoyed a delightful night out with husband. I even indulged in a glass of burgundy, while my hubby ordered casamigo on the rock to get into the mood. Although the weather wasn’t spectacular, the view from the 18th floor at dusk was still magical. To our surprise, the food was outstanding! We sampled a few items: king crab roll, oysters, hamachi crudo, Korean spicy fried chicken, and we seized the opportunity to enjoy foie gras which was sandwiched between a perfectly prepared hamburger. It might be our last time getting foie gras as it will soon be a banned item in New York! We decided to try the frites with bearnaise sauce which was divine! We finished the meal with a pretty dessert named Gold Bar. Service was excellent too. Our server Lily was attentive and responsive. This is definitely a night out in Manhattan done right!

High Hopes

By Jo R |

Destination celebrations and biz meetings always meet the highest of expectations. The lush and compelling decor at the Top are universally pleasing. Youth has no age and music is the greatest bonding element in the room. The bar is sunken to compliment the a view looking down and out over the skyline. The staff is as elegantly dressed as is the venue itself. Food by the bite is delicious. There's little, if any, need to move on to another location for the evening once seated at the Top.

Great location - staff to be improved.

By Spilingoto |

Located at the top (18th floor) of The Standard hotel in the meat packing district, offers a superb location and definitely one of the best view of Manhattan. Atmosphere is great and the mix between the live music session and the 30's decor will give a memorable experience. Service at the bar is, unfortunately not at the same level of the expectoration and, even a simple order of a portion of fries (they don't serve any canapé with the drinks) can take up to 30 minute (unacceptable). It's very expensive, but the premium for the view it's justified. Free entrance for the bar, if want to be seated at a table, reservation is a must.

🌅 sunset 🌅 NYC

Amazing to watch the sunset from here. Bartenders very friendly. Doorman an absolute snob and arrogant, especially for the hotel guests... Worth to take a drink here

Snub waitress

By Vidabr |

This review is regarding Friday (03/29/2019) we decide that we want to spend time at this place , before get to our dinner -Del Posto- next review) .Reservation was made and instructions in our appearance and dress code well described ,...; the reservationist was specific in what kind of people they are looking for in there lounge ; “ we are looking for beautiful people and fashionable dressed “,!!!OK! The service is miserable , my waitress snub /spurn /arrogant ,....you named !!!!! We had our great champagne ( you can find in any great lounge / bar/ restaurant), 03 orders of food ( they are smaller them the most fancy places I know ) ! Food not bid deal , honesty i aspect a lot more ( I can have better and less not go to this contemptuous treatment)! The waitress only took our order neve get back to us we only order the second drink bc we order at the bar , and we take closed the check ! End of this nastiness ! Some people told me , that I need second time bc they believe our waitress was in bad blá-blá-blá , I can’t tell! Spend almost 400 d💵 and not have a good experience !! I don’t know if I get back !

The hostess made my evening horrible / Katrina is not a full representation of this amazing establishment

By TheTravelGuru |

It was our 25th anniversary and usually the ambiance and hostess are amazing at this establishment however upon my arrival it was mass confusion checking in the hostess was cold and callous and unprofessional. I’ve been a customer for years and i will not return because of this hostess it’s a sad end to an era but management will need to get potential candidates more carefully.

Good atmosphere but average food&drink

By Stefenz |

We went there on a Sunday evening. The bar is super cool with great music and a relaxed atmosphere. We had burgers & bellinis which both weren‘t good - the fries with the bernaise made it up though, they were delicious.

Speechless

There are no words to describe this experience! Probably, one of the greatest rooftop of New York. Tasted an extra dry Martini with a view. That’s New York.

Best Bar in New York!

By MNina_10 |

I just love this bar and is my absolute favorite bar in New York. Amazing view close to Hudson River. Amazing atmosphere and not last amazing cocktails with live jazz music.

Expensive but good

By viobcoop |

For $409 a day, I was disappointed. Hotel was clean and modern but tub/shower was so tall I was afraid to get into it. Door on the toilet area was loud to close so if anyone was sleeping you would wake them up.

My fav

By F. |

Basically, that’s New York. Service: 10/10. Had a dirty martini with a terrific view. Everything was perfectly handled. I had such a New Yorker vibes. Thank you. The experience is a lifetime worthy.

A highlight of NYC not to be missed!

By Adam S |

Myself and my partner have had the pleasure of visiting this place twice on our holidays to NYC and I cannot recommend it enough! The bar is beautifully decorated with a gorgeous eloquent aesthetic which makes you feel welcome. The view of Manhattan is stunning and I recommend seeing it at nighttime for full effect! Our experience this time was made extra special by Raffinee who provided us with the most amazing service. Raffinee was attentive, friendly, sociable and such a delight to speak to. She looked after us and was incredible with her knowledge of the food and drinks menus, giving us recommendations based on what we said we liked! Raffinee is a credit to The Standard and is a true example of what outstanding customer service can look like. Thank you again! I cannot recommend The Top of The Standard enough!

Are you kidding me?

By tms215 |

The views are amazing. Expensive and packed with beautiful people. Best rooftop in the city. Entertainment was soft and first rate vocals

Disapointing experience

By Jérémie B |

After queuing for almost an hour, we finally reached the bouncer, super excited to enjoy a romantic drink in NY. The bouncer barely acknowledged us, and asked for our IDs. I had mine and my girlfriend had a printed version which she uses in the city to avoid losing it or getting it stolen. And anyway, we are both 26. He refused to allow us in, despite our proofs of ID. Worse, he was extremely rude and really agressive in his manners. We were shocked to receive such treatment and really disapointed, offended by the whole experience.

Style!

Great place, great drinks, great people, great view. Check out this place even if you don't stay at the standard hotel

Views on Views

By gingercakes3303 |

This was an experience from the beginning. Once you enter, you get into a scary (dark) elevator that brings you to a club. Once you exit the elevator, you’ll notice a pool (a pool!?!) with bikini clad models in it. It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s a big room with a pool. Beyond some doors to the left is where the classy lounge is. If you can get past the guy controlling the velvet rope(s), you should have a cocktail. The views are amazing from the whole lounge but I’m not going to lie, the best view is in the bathroom. The drinks are expensive (and inventive) but the service is exceptional.

Top notch, all the way around!

By Kimberley H |

My husband and I went here for our 3rd wedding anniversary, and we could not have had a more outstanding evening. Everyone is very nice and accommodating, and this started from the moment I made our reservation two weeks in advance. When asked if there was an occasion and I mentioned it was our anniversary, I was asked where we would like to sit. I said we had not been there before, and the man on the phone said he had the perfect spot for us. When we arrived we were led to a cozy spot by a fireplace, with amazing views of the river and the city. Our server greeted us with two complimentary glasses of bubbles--such a thoughtful touch! The food and cocktails are top notch--the sliders so amazing that we went for a second order. The ambience is cozy and romantic, and on top of that, live jazz! My husband was worried that it would be a tourist trap, but he could not stop raving about the high class experience. We can't wait to come back in November!

View!!!!

By Samir B |

Great view, very nice place to visit and have a few drinks. Innovative mixes for drinks. Service was very good. Music just the right volume. A bit on the expensive side and slightly pretentious for me. Service was very good.

Amazing Views

By JoyfulYogini |

So, this is not the place to go when you are on a limited budget BUT it is worth the splurge if you can do it. Magnificent views and a gorgeous setting. Cheese plate was a nice appetizer. Frites came in a generous serving with a delicious dipping sauce. Be prepared to pay $12 for a beer and up to $30 for a speciality mixed drink. But when you are there you can't help but feel special. Be sure to dress nicely - it's a classy, trendy place. Oh, and be sure to use the restroom before you go - you will understand why I suggest this when you go!

AMAZING VIEWS

By Chalfont123 |

Great views and ambience. We had cocktails and watched the sunset from here. Staff are helpful and smartly turned out. There was live music and although it was busy it was not particularly noisy. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Rude. Condescending and insulting

By lloyd s |

Tried to stop in a 6:00 pm for a quick drink and the view with friends from out of town. Did not make it past the extremely rude hostess. A group of 4 couples all professionals First made sure we were all 21. Ok we are in our 60’s. Next we were told not dressed “in cocktail attire “. Really! Saturday night at 6:00 PM. We were not let in and told to go down to their other bar and security would meet us at the elevator. Security- how insulting. The other bar had a $50 cover!!! In the future will book our large group events at other hotels. Never give these rude people your business. Lots of other nice friendly places to go

Make sure you get a decent seat

By AH1969 |

Recommended to try this place and booked ahead of trip to USA. Huge room with far reaching views but were stuck in a corner off the main room with limited views. Add to that £40 for 2 cocktails that were mainly ice and our experience wasn’t that great - better views and value in New York... in our opinion!

Beautiful View

By floridatocanada |

The company I work for hosted an event at the Top of the Standard and it was beautiful. The views are basically 360 degrees with inside and outside viewing. Because it was December and quite cold, the outside seating areas was basically rendered unusable. I found it interesting that, coming from Florida where we have patio heaters everywhere, that outdoor fire pits and patio heaters were almost nonexistent in NYV. It left me wondering if there is some type of ordinance against these sorts of devices. It is most unfortunate because a warm cozy fire place brings gemutlichkeit to every setting! I don't know if Top of the Standard is generally open to the public, but if so, I would make it a visit for a cocktail. We enjoyed some food at the bar downstairs and it was quite delicious.

Great views of the city

By Brett H |

The main selling point of this bar is that it really does have fantastic views of the city. The downside was that some of the staff and in particular the host on the door was unfriendly. It’s defo worth a visit for a couple of drinks and the photo opportunity but I prob wouldn’t stay longer than that.

Great food, view, and entertainment

By David C |

With a live band playing easy and familiar classic tunes and decor reminisce of an era distinguished by glamor and style, the lounge at The Top of the Standard was an enchanting place teeming with positive vibes. We were seated in a prime spot with a commanding view of the Hudson River. The menu sure did not disappoint. Thrilled that the food was outstanding, unlike places that give you good view and service and try to get away with less from the kitchen. Oyster and hamachi crudo were palate pleasers and well presented; the mini burgers (comes in 2 and in sensible size actually) with foie gras satisfied the carnivore in me. The shoe-string style frites with bearnaise sauce were addictive! We perhaps should have skipped the Korean fried chicken as unknowingly we ordered a tad too much. We don't frequent lounges, but the overall experience of this 18th floor hot spot in the chic High Line neighborhood might just lure us back more frequently.

Panoramic view in New York!

By MNina_10 |

Don't miss out this fantastic bar on The Top of the Standard. Amazing view towards Hudson River, down town New York and the liberty statue. I loved the cocktails with champagne, the cozy and posh architecture. This place is very popular and you might pop into a celebrity...

Perfect!

By Edlemon |

On a recent trip to NY we had an evening sipping on cocktails and watching the sun go down over New York. Yes, make the booking - two weeks prior to your desired date. Drinks, lounges, Jazz, Small plates, beautiful atmosphere and spectacular views! Not for the party crowd who want the roof top bar, perfect for the smaller group who want the rooftop bar without the hoards and queues at the bar. This is more expensive but worth it to enjoy the evening. One of my NY highlights by far!

Glamourous and Chic

By Tatiana H |

Its one of the places to go in manhattan at the moment.Glam, chic, luxurious and with amazing views. The coctails are great and the vibe at night is great. Totally recommend it for a night out!

Stunning view at an amazing restaurant and bar

By Candler C |

Everything at the Top of the Standard is high quality. The views of Manhattan and the Jersey shoreline are amazing. The food was once of the best meals I have ever had. They have smaller plates, so I recommend ordering a few different items and sharing them. I tried their slides, foie gras toast, Korean barbecue, and fries and they were all delicious. The cocktails are amazing as well. In times with good weather, you can even go on the rooftop above the bar...if you can find the entrance.

The best view in NY

Great cocktail and great location, very pleasant live music. Very nice and fancy bar. The place to go every time I am back in NY.

Amazing cocktails and great view

FANTASTIC views and service

By Ian P |

We went for pre dinner drinks before going to another restaurant. The views were amazing, the service great with a musician playing a trumpet. A great experience.

One drink only

By Stephanie W |

This place is overpriced. But good view of you managed to get a table booked! Super busy free 2100 so make sure you have your reservation. Not fantastic drinks, but interior decoration is impressive.

Big night ruined

By phillip c |

Called to make a reservation at 6.00pm and was told that they could fit us in at 9.45. We arrive on time to be advised we had been shunted to the Standard Grill... no view and expense pub grub.

OPULENT PENTHOUSE LOUNGE !!

By Dr Vivienne Finnegan |

With spectacular views this is the perfect venue for a drinks with friends and a fun night out. The cocktails are as amazing ! The food is delicious especially the duck sliders which melt in your mouth. To fully enjoy your experience dress well as everyone here looks gorgeous.

Top Notch

By Brett L |

Reservation and ID required before 10 pm. After it turns into a club. Entrance is on the side. The spectacular views aside, this cocktail bar on the 18th floor of the The Standard hotel is one of the most exquisite and glamorous spaces I have ever visited. It feels a tad snooty at first and you are surrounded by some beautiful people but truly they become part of the scenery. Great for drinks prior to dinner. Drinks are expensive but it was worth the experience and elegant yet hip ambiance. The frites were really good too!

New York Excellence!

By Courtney C |

My friends I were greeted with a warm welcome and seated in front of the fireplace overlooking the entire city! What a view! We enjoyed the buzzing energy of the live Jazz. Our cocktail waitress introduced herself and walked us through the cocktail menu. We told her our alcohol of choice and she recommended the ideal drinks to start our evening. The service staff was so efficient and the food was to die for. We ordered the sashimi & sliders which were so diving I would go back just for the sliders. This is the perfect choice if you are looking to impress any out of town guests, a date, or a life long New Yorker. Make sure you use the restroom too! Its an exciting treat you have to see for yourself.

love it

Had the most wonderful experience here. The cocktails were amazing, as were the staff and the views. A special mention to Christine at the door. A wonderful welcoming girl! Promote her immediately! Made the experience fun for myself and the girls!

Boom Boom Room is dynamite!!

By Pathfinder812470 |

A must go for a Blast from the Past. The views are great, especially from your own private bathroom, no kidding. Service was excellent and the servers are super. They have live music, jazz, when we were there. This is a A+ gem!! We didn't have dinner, but their small plates are superb.

Spontaneous drinks turned into a fun afternoon (of drinks)

By Kenneth Pages |

Although it was al title difficult at first to get a direct answer about how to get up there - turns out you just use the regular elevator in the hotel - not the Le Bain elevator. It’s a really very pretty space. I would characterize the door person/Host(ess) as cold and maybe a little off putting initially but they warmed to tepid eventually. (They and the lack of clarity in getting there — this was a hotel staff issue — is why I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars). The bar staff were personable and polite. They made great drinks. Good sense of humor and very friendly. Definitely a place to go again especially knowing how to get there. It was previously and still is on the weekends after 9 I believe) a private club so going there later would generally require membership.

Glamour at night!

By Francesca Demont |

We had made reservations for a Friday evening at the Top of the Standard. Getting there can be confusing if you're staying at The Standard as the doors change and the entrance to the Top of the Standard is from the outside -- we had a 9:30 pm reservation. It's so worth it, but I would definitely recommend a reservation if you're planning to go later in the evening, particularly toward the weekend. Once you make it past the rope (do dress properly - even daringly!), you arrive at the 18th floor where a hostess will take you to a table. We had asked for a window table and had a spectacular view. Our service was great - around 1:00 a.m. she showed us around a bit and we moved over to have a view toward the Empire State Building. The small plates are great to go along with the cocktails. We settles on Oysters (half dozen, on the smallish side, but very tasty), the Tuna Tartare (spicy and served with toasted bread), and later the Cheese selection (actually quite a bit) and the Charcuterie. After trying a few cocktails, we settled on the Pornstar Martini. If you find the prices a bit steep, just remember that your there for the atmosphere, hospitality, views, music, and an all around great time. We stayed until 3:00 a.m.

Brilliant bar

By PlummyDorking |

Great funky bar with superb views. Good music and glamorous interior add to the experience. Would thoroughly recommend - don't be put off by the exterior of the building - as soon as you walk inside you enter a different world! Best at night I think.

Uber Bar!

By Nancy K |

What a delightful time we had at my favorite bar in NYC! The top of the Standard has stunning views, a fantastic jazz duo and Josh, a bar tender par excellence who stirs up delicious cocktails like my favorite negroni, and variations of it. A perfect ending to our visit to one of the best cities in the world.

What a disappointment!

By Jacqui L |

After walking for ages on a really hot day to find The Standard we eventually found it! DesperaTe for a cocktail and full of anticipation, imagine the disappintment to find the bar at the top of the standard didnt open until 5 pm.It was only 2.30!!!! Had to go to Catch instead!!! Never mind the prosseco was fantastic. I am sure it would have been amazing hence the rating.

Best Birthday gathering

By Cuyler7021 |

My friends and I had the best time at Top of the standard. The manager Mark set us up with a beautiful table with one of the best views of the city. Our servers Maya and Meghan were lovely and very attentive with our drinks. They chose most opulent gold bar birthday dessert, definitely ‘gram worthy. A great place to meet friends but I definitely want to bring a date next time, it has a very sexy vibe. Also definitely don’t miss the bathrooms! They’re one of a kind.

Great cocktails and dessert.

Great cocktails and dessert. Our waitress Monica took care of us with good humor. My family had a blast with the photo booth in the basement!

Drinks at Top of the Standard Hotel

By John T |

Stopped in for our first visit to the bar Top of the Standard yesterday, after a visit to the Whitney museum (just 2 blocks away). Had a few delicious margaritas from the bartender, Christopher. He's a great bartender: friendly, fast. We'll be back.

Beautiful bar and views

By Holidaysandfood |

We went here for some drinks as the sun was setting. It was a beautiful bar and the all round spectacular views. The bar staff were very friendly and good backing music. They did have live entertainment starting later on but we missed it unfortunately. They also have a club across the corridor called le Bain which is meant to be great fun.

What a Place!

Dress up and go up to the top of the Standard! Very cool place! Breathtaking 360 view of NYC. Very professional service. Nice drinks and cocktails, nice snacks and menu for your wine. You will live music, mostly jazz and blues. Nice crowd. Really impressed! Reservation is strongly recommended to avoid waiting and queues.

Called the number showing on Google search for “The top of the Standard” in NY, booked a table and when turned up we got told we booked at the standard grill, ground floor this was not what we expected as we wanted a nice dinner with a view for our last night in New York, misleading advertising and ruined our last night in New York City. Not happy at all. P

What can I say, it was one of my favorite moments in NY. Amazing view, great design, good cocktail. Recommended.

Christmas

By Kim Laperle |

My son and I had a reservation at the Top of the Standard on Christmas evening, the service and atmosphere the moment we arrived... wow! After being seated at a west side table with an 18th story view of downtown Manhattan and the New Jersey skyline across the Hudson River, the manager greeted us, ensuring our comfort. Mike also stopped by our table and recommended several cocktails and tapas-style dishes. My sons favorites were the tuna tartare and foie gras sliders, which I also found amazing, but I was specifically impressed with the flavor combinations in every plate and cocktail, beautifully blended, not over or under done. Everything was subtle and exquisite! Aaron crafted us cocktails that were out of this world! His presence behind the bar was professional, knowledgeable, and impressive to watch. My favorite cocktail of the evening was the Hudson Duster! The architecture, views, interior design, staff, art, comfort and lighting culminate in an atmosphere and experience you won’t soon... if ever, forget! If I make it back to The Top of the Standard I will consider myself twice blessed! Oh yeah, and make sure you go to the bathroom... even if you don’t have to.

Wow

By RomaamorA |

Ok, be prepared to be amazed at both the incredible views and the price of a cocktail. I think we paid almost $30 a drink. Have to check it out but be prepared to pay for it!

A great scene... Love it for after dinner cocktails!

By chuongnguyen123 |

A great scene.... love it for after dinner cocktails! Was a bit crowded when we went and all the 'reserved' tables are a bit frustrating when no one is sitting and so many people standing. But overall, great cocktails and great atmosphere. And those views.......

Don't miss these views!

By DAPJr112 |

We came here with friends in the late afternoon after a so-so brunch in the meatpacking district, and our spirits were immediately lifted! I'll admit we raised the median age a few years, but there was plenty of seating, and the seats are on different levels, so all parties have a great view of Lower Manhattan, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. It was a beautiful sunny day, almost a little too sunny as we faced southwest. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer, and we had some fun cocktails and a bottle of wine, together with some frites and a ceviche dish the chef tried out on us! A return visit is definitely in the cards..

VIEW ALL OF NYC WITH A DRINK IN HAND

After goingto the Whitney Museum or walking the High Line, be sure to stop here for a drink and THE VIEW.

Amazing view, amazing cocktails

By LittleFox81 |

we went on the toproof bar. The place is really cool and you can enjoy the view of Manhattan/Brooklyn or Jersey. The bar charges a littel bit more for the view, but the cocktails are really delicious and the service is great. A place to be visited!

Order at the Bar

By London Travelers |

A tired dated and pretentious take on a steakhouse theme that is done much better by the steakhouses...Meats and fish are high quality however... service is inattentive and the entire meal spanned for 2.5 hours for 3... if you need a giggle order the shishito peppers and all 6 of them come on a cart ON A SKEWER...Rocco, seriously?

Shake off the pretentiousness and enjoy the view or just skip it!

By cocoaman |

First stop of a long weekend to celebrate my son's birthday, We could not make a reservation for 8 of us and so with 2 reservations, we asked to be seated near each other. Guess what? The answer is no because we might misbehave, talk too loud or have too good of a good time I guess. The hostess actually told us that if we try to sit near each other or at one table, she would ask us to leave. What a way to welcome a guest! Forget the fact we were early and most tables were empty. I have never experienced anything like this. When the manager finally, reluctantly agreed to allow us to sit together, I had to sign a contract and guarantee $100 per person "to provide us the kind of service a party like ours will require!" She discounted it from $150 per person. Wait...What?? True story! Ok...so we really just wanted to sit and enjoy the view and now have more than one drink for our $800 in the one hour we had left to be there. (It took 30 minutes of whispered discussions and contract signing before we could order a drink!) We had to get out of our chairs to get our waiter to return more than 45 minutes after delivering our first drink. So much for 'needed attention'. There was so much pretentious snobbery it made us all laugh. In fact, we laughed the whole weekend about our first birthday drink at the Standard. Never again! There are too many great places to eat, drink and enjoy in the city without being stared at up and down, charged ridiculous prices and then treated with a standoffish attitude and basically ignored. And by the way, my son turned 35 (not 12 as you might have assumed by the way they acted) and is the CEO of a hospitality company. We could teach the staff at the Standard a few things about...being hospitable! One star only for the view.

Go during the summer and grab a Table and pitcher of sangria. Typical overpriced NYC drinks but the views are amazing. Visit during the summer and chill out to some mellow beats

Gorgeous Gatsby-esque

By JoseAntonioFlores |

This place can't get better: Breathtaking views, 1920s type ambiance, great drinks, beautiful people! Can't get any better views of Manhattan! The prices are definitely high but worth it! A must in New York's night life!

Time capsule with breathtaking views

By MLXV |

Some will say the place could use a renovation - and it's probably true. Having said that, the Top of The Standard is a unique experience that can be compared to time travel. Original decor and furniture from a few decades ago plus the unforgettable views of the NYC skyline are the key reasons to visit. Live soft jazz music, well equipped bar (the winelist could use an update) and feel-good ambience make it worthwhile.

A great birthday surprise!

By Dani_Freebies |

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at The Top of the Standard Hotel!! As a birthday surprise my husband brought me to this hotel for a romantic evening :) We enjoyed drinks and appetizers while overlooking downtown Manhattan. Viewing the sunset over the Manhattan skyline, was a plus. The waitstaff was attentive and provided recommendations for drinks and appetizers. I would definitely go back to the Standard Hotel for a date night or a celebration of some sort. Thank you Jade Maison X for recommending this hotel to my husband!!

Wow

By Kellyyeoman |

Lovely rooftop bar! I had this place saved to visit, it took us a while to find but it was worth it. Depending on what you drink it's reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and the views were just amazing.

Super drinks and atmosphere with a dynamite view!

By Katherine M |

Our group of 6 women stopped by the Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel from 4-6 last Saturday for drinks and appetizers and a tip top view. We had a great time, and we found the waitstaff to be friendly and helpful. We were on our way to walk High Line Park, and this was a fun stop!

So so

By Chris W |

Heard rave reviews about this roof top bar and an aspect of it was good - views of over New York and the Hudson River but as a bar it was lacking. Waitress service is basically non existent meaning long queues at the bar, the bar staff are not overtly welcoming while sitting opportunities are limited! It was also packed which made it a little comfortable just even enjoying the view though we did manage it and it was worth it. Would we go again. Most likely not but we were pleased we did it.

Nice View and good Atmosphere

By Klaus E |

We had no reservation and only wanted a couple of drinks before dinner. For the first half an hour we had to stand because it was absolutely packed. We enjoyed the view over the Hudson River. My daughter then managed to get us seats at the bar and only then could we hear that a Jazz Band was playing. Kelly Green was tickling the ivories and sang. Alan Trembley was on bass and Evan Hyde on drums. I must admit that I never heard of the trio but liked their numbers a lot My daughter had a “Love Me Rita” cocktail made from Oaxecan Mezcal, Pineapple and Yuzu and Espelette and was served on the rocks. Mine was a very powerful “Smoked Sazerac” Made with Whistle Pig Rye, Demerara and Absinthe, Peychaud’s Bitters and was smoked with Applewood and served straight. Wow. My daughter loved Rita so much that she had one more whilst I enjoyed a Plymouth Gin very Dry Martini. The bar was extremely busy with at least 4 mixologists doing their stuff. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service.

Nice view, but stupid.

By Amanda I |

This place is just stupid I have no other word for it. It does have a great view however, they do discriminate... looks absolutely matter. The drinks are very over-priced and it's a bit tacky.

Cocktail sipping & stunning views

By wwsinging |

This is the slightly higher end of the two rooftop bars at the Standard, accessed via Reception and the lift to the top floor. Beware of the non trainers policy. We chose to sit outside so you climb a rather industrial staircase up a couple of floors The views, especially out across the river (the main seating area side) are beautiful. Comfortable squashy sofas and beds. Time it as the sun starts to set as we did. We loved sitting there listening to the music from the almost adjacent roof top bar packed with the younger, and most likely cooler crowd). Delicious cocktails, stunning view. Highly recommend.

Elegance on our last night

By Blellum |

We dressed up to enjoy our last night in NYC, and cocktails at our hotel were in order. Top of The Standard was fantastic. From the decor to the view, from the waiters and waitresses (in their barely there satin outfits) to the drinks. Make sure to use the bathroom ... check that view!

My husband and I came here on our first night in NYC. I made reservations well in advance. We loved it! The views are stunning, the service was wonderful and the atmosphere was perfect. Their website clearly indicates their dress code "elegant chic" so be sure you dress the part. The drinks were expensive but by far the best drinks Ive (and my husband) have ever had. Loved it!

Nice view

Entrance was a little disorganised with hostesses ushering people around like school children. We had reserved in advance to get a table - which is highly recommended. Service was slow, drinks and food were pricey and average (nothing spectacular) you are basically paying for the view - and that is spectacular. Looking forward to trying some other roof top bars on our trip to compare...

Amazing view!

My friends and I enjoyed this bar for the views and drinks. Music that night was acceptable. It a great spot when bar hopping!

A fun, romantic evening!

The staff was amazing. I'd like to single out Jade Maison X for a big thank you as she took very care of me and my wife and made her birthday dinner very special! :)

Not value for money

Amazing view, amazing place very special design and very good vibes. But, very small portion dishes and the cocktails are not that specials and the prices very expensive though. So you gonna pay for the place and not for what inside your stomach.

Wondering views and equally amazing cocktails. Well worth a visit, you need to pre book. Fabulous, friendly staff too.

Best roof top in the city!!!!!! Make a reservation! Go now!

By Misonix |

You dont need a reservation but it would assure you a good table. Drinks are expensive but quality. The view and atmosphere are the best in the city, by far, even on a bad weather day! Totally enclosed area and a secret rooftop! Go now!

Amazing sundown view

Worth a visit just for the view at sunset, awesome! Sure drinks are not cheap but really worth it for the view, have a couple of drinks and move on.

A great find

Really recommend you go there and see the views, sample the atmosphere of this great bar. Yes it's prices, but one drink and enjoy

Go for the Views

By lobaker1 |

We made a reservation at the Top of the Standard two weeks in advance. We went straight to the 18th floor and were seated with a very nice view of the downtown area. The Menu was small which we were aware of and only had small plates. It was pricey for what you get and the drink prices were outrageous which we were also aware of. We decided just to eat and enjoy the views and walked up to the rooftop for a few pictures prior to leaving.

Best rooftop bar in the city

As soon as you enter the place, you step into a glamour world! The hostess are super classy and so is the staff and are very courteous.. it's like you are in one of the bond movies.. expensive drinks but totally worth it for the view this place offers.. very much recommended to go view the sunset in manhattan..

Nice view-tough to get into-a bit annoying

By SueSyo |

Just wanted a drink at the top on a Wednesday afternoon. Opens at 4. Craziness just to get up in the elevator at 4, lots of rules e.g. about coat-checking, shoes, trying to get a table... As the lucky ones we were let in, sat ourselves at the bar. Had a $20 drink each plus a shared $10 frites. The tables all had reserved cards on them and we were told to negotiate with the hostess to snag one: didn't bother: annoying. Bottom line this place is not as cool as it thinks to merit silly arrogance. For a $20 drink would it be so hard for them to make it pleasant, rather than a competitive circus? Anyway the 270 view was lovely, the drink tasty, and the rest rooms were funny: you sit facing the outer wall, which is all open glass with a bit of design slightly obscuring the bottom glass (but you are on the 18th floor worth no other tall buildings easily in telescope reach.) Amusing concept. I just really can't stand restaurants and clubs that are pretentious and lofty, especially when they don't merit it. So good drink or not, they ought to show more respect for their clientele. Oh yeah ...and their skating rink in the plaza is really tiny and loaded with locals (which we are) so I wouldn't plan an outing counting on skating there. But still, it's cute and sweet in its way. So I am on the fence regarding this place. My request: show more class, egalitarianism, and charm. Treat all seekers well - build good faith - everyone is a future customer and you don't want to gain a bad reputation for disappointing people.

The atmosphere is awesome. The jazz music with live bands make even more better the drinks and food.

Horrible attitude by the entire staff

By Auyguner |

Even though we loved the atmosphere, cocktails and the food (fries were amazing), our evening was ruined by the attitude of the hostesses. It was a quite evening most tables were empty and we asked our waitress before our drinks arrived if we could move to front row that had better view and she asked us to go ask the hostess outside the door ourselves. I went up and asked for permission and the hostess said no problem. While we were moving, I thought it would be a good idea to let the waiter by the new table know that we have already asked hostess and that we're moving. However to our surprise, the waiter asked us to go ask hostess again. When I asked the reason why I got yelled at and been told that this is how their operations work and I have to get up and ask for the second time. When I refused to go ask for the second time waiter threatened me to call the security. Then he left and we sat down to the new table. The waitress who was previously taking care of us came over and told us that our drinks are at our old table. When we asked if we could have them at the new table she asked if we could help her move our drinks. At that point we were very very frustrated. Then the hostess came and apologized saying she was confused when she gave us consent. To sum, it was the worst experience I have ever had at a bar in my life and it is very unfortunate that an establishment with such potential is being run by this poor management. After that experience, I would never consider going back or recommending this place to my friends.

The most unwelcoming bar!

By Slaclau |

Poor welcome, so we sat down. Waited 10 minutes for service. Then we were told we had to move table as this was reserved.....we had a reservation! Just absolutely shocking service and a poor welcom. Waited at the entrance after checking in at the door, no one showed us to a table! They all looked at us! Can't wait to get out of here!

Downtown panoramic sky-bar, 18 floors above the former meatpacking district's restaurants and bars. Slick service, a live band and a perfect vodka martini... or two.

Amazing

By Frau B |

Cool! Very Amazing the view on the both ways of new York skyline. On one side, the empire state building, every day a new color dressed, end on the another side the freedom tower with its limping lights antenna. In the middle, a great shining tree of gold. Good live music. You must see the panoramic glass wall restroom. Dress code is required. Not too much expensive for the location.

Not impressed

By EM_travel4life |

Not impressed at all. Was here a Friday in October and had high expectations of both the scene and drinks. I don’t mind paying for expensive drink but they need to be good. Feels like a tourist trap where you only pay for the view and not the atmosphere and drinks. Serice is average.

Boom boom room terrible

By johnjflan |

The boom boom room is top Of the standard. Separate from le Bain. There is one large bar and the bartenders are incompetent. They cannot deal with large crowds. You wait half hour for drink. Don’t bother going.

Pretentious

By gary s |

Beautiful view of city here does not make up for being made to feel like a pariah. Visited here with my new wife on honeymoon but deliberately ignored all evening by the hostess- can only think we didn’t appear cool/ wealthy enough to bother with. Had a great time in America up to this point but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Unknown to her we had just spent 300 dollars on a meal in the grill below which was great. The next time I pay to go out and get looked down upon I would prefer if it was by somebody who earns considerably more than me , preferably with a university education.

The most beautiful 360 view of Manhattan

Great environment. A pianist performing while enjoy great cocktails and seeing the view of the city. You can even see on the west side a view of the skyline in NJ. Bathrooms are very unique. Great experience !

Trendy with all round views

By Legal_itinerant |

Very trendy place and normally busy with young new yorkers out for a good time. There is normally a queue to go up. The outdoor bar on the roof top is a popular place and the lounge below that has a small pool bedecked with male and female models just for eye candy. The main restaurant has a strict dress code so check before you go.

The view... really but really nice!

By CrC71UK |

Ok, so if you go to the Top of The Standard, you don't go there because you are looking for a very special menu or rare recipes, so we had low expectations on that. However, we were expecting a cool and nice place with a great view and that's exactly what we got: the view over the Hudson is really cool and going there for sunset is an experience to have. In terms of food, we had some nice hamburgers which were definitely nice. Nothing to know our socks off, but definitely good taste and quality. I would like to spend a couple of words on the service and the personnel since the experience was mixed. The lady at the reception at the top floor seemed as happy to see us as an husband who has been told that his mother in law will move in with him and his wife for the next 2 centuries: if that's the first impression that they try to give, well... I suggest they change plans. Her attitude made us feel totally unwelcome. However.... that changed totally once inside. The ladies at the bar/restaurant were super nice, super smiling and very kind. Very good service. Bottom line, once you pass the unpleasant welcome, you will have a great experience. P.S. Restrooms are something to be seen......

A favorite spot until our last visit

By MaryEllenBk |

There's no doubt this is one of the most beautiful rooms in the world with a great view to boot. Drinks are good as well as small bites. We had visited many times through the years and never hesitated bringing friends. Unfortunately, our last visit was an embarrassment. The girl who served us had odd and unpredictable mood swings. HR must identify an employee's strengths and weaknesses. Some employees do not belong in direct service roles. Ill-mannered types should be kept away from well heeled guests.

Exquisite Cocktail Experience

By Crissy |

From the moment of our arrival and throughout the evening, our experience at The Boom Boom Room exceeded all expectations! The hostess was welcoming and genuinely gracious, the servers were friendly and extremely accommodating, and the food was nothing less than absolutely divine! We were seated in a secluded corner spot that felt private, yet had an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline. It was truly a memorable and one of a kind experience!
