First time eating Korean BBQ, really enjoyed this restaurant, waiters were very helpful explaining the menu and the whole process, very good, only ordered the pork option, think I would prefer beef, great experience

The best Korean BBQ in town

By DD817YiP |

BBQ under strong music. Friendly staffs. Mostly they are Korean which made more feelings. Beef were so so good. Specially SKIRT. The marinated short rib were good too.

Scalping Tourists during the "Holidays"

By Scienceofmusic |

No option for a zero rating. Its Holiday week in NYC and it seems like everyone is out to scam the poor tourists, especially this place . I live within commuting distance of NYC, coming into town for theater, special meals out, medical treatment and of course shopping. Yesterday a friend wanted an ethnic meal, so we decided on this place because of the reviews. Could only order BBQ (the most expensive option on the menu) because it was the "holidays." At $80+ per person for lunch this was just too damn expensive for lunch at 32nd and Fifth no matter how good the food might be. Where I live (Massachusetts) this kind of seasonal price gouging would be illegal - New York should take a similar approach, maybe people would feel better about visiting NYC and patronizing their establishments. After being seated and told about this seasonal policy we got up and left. Perhaps green card businesses should pass a mandatory course in business ethics.

Excellent Korean BBQ

By Cara C |

I love this place. It’s so good and they are so nice. There’s usually a wait, but if you time it just right it’s not too bad. We arrived around 1:30pm on a Friday and got a table in about -5 min. When we left around 3pm, there was quite a long line. Food portions are good and they’ll bring you more sides or rice, really whatever you need. Service is quick and efficient. I personally love mixing the stew with my rice and adding bbq to it!

Totally Korean dining experience

By Paradise802123 |

Very busy restaurant so booking is essential. Food was nice and the dining experience was great. The staff were run off their feet so it was difficult to attract their attention. The clientele was mainly Korean so we felt this was a good advert for the restaurant We found the food expensive but I guess you're paying for the whole experience.

Great BBQ beef and kimchee!

By Anthony S |

This is a great meal / chef entertainment for the adventuresome carnivores! The beef brisket was great, as was the kimchee. Best to show up just before the 5 pm opening of the upstairs dining room, which is cooler and has more small group seating, as it filled within minutes. Most of the deniers were Asian, also a strong positive regarding authenticity of cuisine. Service was good, not great, as we could have used more guidance on menu options.

Korean with a pricetag!

By fishking88 |

To avoid the wait, we ventured for reservations and a private dining room for about $85 per person. To not have to wait, the price is well worth it. For the amount of meat that you receive for the amount of money per person, that is another story. I usually do not like to write negative reviews. If I don't have anything good to say, I usually ignore it. There are positives. The meat is tasty. The environment is lively. They serve you these "box rice" dishes that are unique to me which was tasty. If you are looking for Korean, this should be on your list to consider, but I am just basing some of my comments on the quantity of meat based on the price that we pay, it may be lacking a little bit. Otherwise, it is a place that you should try. Possibly do a la carte.

Great Korean Barbeque

By hopfrog |

Some say this is the best Korean BBQ in NY. I can't say I've tried them all, but it's certainly better than the two or three others I've gone to. They don't take reservations except for large parties for weekend brunch, but an email exchange elicited the response that Monday nights the wait is shortest, so that's when we went. (Monday is often an off-night for the main chef, but since there is a large staff here that cooks at the table, we didn't think that would make a difference, and in retrospect, I think we were right.) Indeed, we arrived around 7:15 and only had to wait a half hour. You can wait outside or go to one of the nearby taverns, and they will send you a text message about 10 minutes before they expect to have a table for you. We, however, decided to have a beer at their own bar. We were a party of 4 buddies. They have individual items, but also combination platters, beef or pork. They said that a "small" platter feeds 2, so we got one beef and one pork. All the meat was first-rate and the beef was cooked to order. There's also kimchee (appetizers), a few side dishes and condiments, and a soup. Each table has a barbeque grill in the center with an exhaust directly above, and they put down different surfaces on the grill depending on how much flame they feel each cut of meat should get. Everything was delicious. There was enough food, but, to be honest, I could have eaten a little more. A single large platter (normally feeding four) for three would better serve large appetites. It was not expensive, but it was excellent. Aside from the meal, we each had a beer or two, and, including a generous tip, I ended up paying $55 for my 25% of the check.

First timer !

First ever Korean BBQ! And dear me it was good. Succulent meat, cooked right befure u, some eggs, veggies, corn with cheese and salad. Must try at least once in life

Off the hook!

By Peri A |

This is the place if you want to get your Korean BBQ on. Great food, great drinks and an awesome staff that takes care of you from start to finish. We had to wait a bit, but totally worth it. Hope I get a chance to go back. Highly recommend it.

Go for the atmosphere

By mckrystal86 |

The atmosphere in this place is really fun. The food is delicious, and there's plenty of it. A bit expensive, but you're paying for the experience and is in line with other places I've visited. My mother is a newbie to Korean barbeque, so I wish the waitress would have taken a little time explaining what all the condiments were and what to expect; that's really my only complaint.

Excellent food, lovely atmosphere

By Emma |

We stumbled across this restaurant whilst tired and hungry, not entirely sure whether it would work for us since we had a vegetarian in our midst but we tried anyway. The 'BBQ' was amazing, if not a little confusing! We chose a pork combo as well as some dumplings from the menu and the vegetarian chose her own dish. There were lots of little side plates already on the table and it was unclear really what we were supposed to do with them. The waiter was helpful, but the restaurant was loud and busy so it was hard to hear his exact instructions. Anyhow, we muddled on as he cooked the meat on our table. The food was fresh and delicious, some things were slightly spicy, and others not. The pork was good quality and really tasty. The dumplings (no idea what was inside them) were amazing! If New York wasn't full of amazing restaurants then I would definitely go to this one again.... Another strange thing was that occasionally a waiter would yell something presumably in Korean and all the others would yell something in response. No idea what that was about, but the whole thing felt like a unique experience and I'm pleased I had it!

Amazing

Amazing Korean BBQ! At first I thought it a little pricy, but it was so worth it. Absolutely delicious! Be sure to try all the sides

Pinnacle of Korean BBQ in NYC

By Kidkong |

I go here about ever 3 weeks and I have never been disappointed. I tend to prefer second floor seating for the best Korean BBQ restaurant in New York. There are cheaper options, but when you are looking for the best beef and service here is the winner. Korean BBQ is tricky since most restaurants leave you to manipulate your own meat and those who aren't skilled at grilling will generally over cook or under or miss the right hot spot. The service is trained to come and flip at the right moment so you don't have to do a thing and the food will come out at it's best. From the lunch box rice, to the raw beef carpaccio, and marinaded beef this is the restaurant to beat since every place is competing for second best. I would order for 4 people, 1-2 lunch box/es, one raw beef carpaccio, 1 order of thinly sliced brisket, 2 order of each marinaded beefs, and a side or two with as many soju's as you can hold since you want to save room for food. Great restaurant and way to break up the typical NYC scene with another cuisine.

Best Kbbq

By Alexandria M |

I went to New York for a week and a friend of mine recommended this place. Honestly, this meat here is great! Also when it comes to Kbbq and the fact that you have to cook the meat yourself, sometimes I can get distracted and end up overcooking my meat but not here! The waiter mostly cooks for you! On top of that, they have these wells on the side that have egg cooking on one side and corn with cheese on the other. It's too good! My friends and I ordered the Large Beef Combo and I gotta say the marinated short rib blew me away. Word of caution though, they get pretty busy so you might have to wait for a while to get a seat if you didn't make reservations. One upside to this, however, is that they have an online waitlist through Yelp or tablet at the entrance of the restaurant. This way they'll text you when your table is being cleaned! Very convenient in my opinion.

Good food :)

By CarolinaHisman |

A friend recommend us to try this korean bbq while in NY. We arrived at 6pm and already crowded. We ordered combo beef and pork. All meats are good, but i like the beef marinated brisket. The service is also good and fast. Just realize that this korean bbq actually is very famous compare to other korean bbq in that area hehehe

Cool experience with great food.

By lovetotravelIl |

Due to a small hiccup right off the bat (they gave our table to a different party literally as the last person from ours was walking through the door due to their “everyone has to be present to sit” policy), we weren’t as excited about the place, but still decided to wait 20 extra minutes to get seated. I’m glad we did. The food was awesome – we ordered 2 beef combos for our party of 4 adults and 2 kids. Beef was very fresh and tasty and everyone found their favorite out of the 3 options within the combo. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating, although we had to remind him a few times to bring more lettuce and sauces. But the place was so busy, I wouldn’t blame him for being a bit distracted. Wouldn’t mind to come back next time I’m in NYC and would recommend. Just get there earlier to avoid rush hour or be prepared to wait.

Good korean bbq

By Manu |

Good food. Not cheap. It recreates an authentic Korean bbq mood. You cannot book, so be prepared. We had the beef combo, and i have to say it was tasty and good.

A superb experience for our first Korean BBQ...!!

By averagebear21 |

My wife and l visited Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong late on a weekday evening after we had been to see the New York Rangers at Madison Square Gardens, so we didn't arrive until gone 10.00pm but this was no problem and without a reservation, we were seated immediately despite the restaurant still being busy. We had never tried Korean BBQ but our waitress was brilliant and talked us through the menu and genuinely took time to understand what we did or didn't like, which bearing in mind the restaurant was still busy with a mix of locals and tourists was brilliant and made a great first impression. We opted for the Small Beef Combo with Prime Boneless Short Rib, which was served quickly along with our drinks and then prepared and cooked at our table over a grill by our waitress who cooked to our liking. Along with the Combo, there was a brilliant selection of side items, many of which we had never tried before but all went wonderfully with the meat. The stand-out for us was the dipping sauces for the meat including a special home-made soy marinade which was simply amazing..!! The meat itself was brilliant and especially the Short Rib which really did melt in your mouth and as this was prepared last, was a perfect way to finish off the meal. The meal with drinks came to around £75.00 which is one probably one of the more expensive meals that we had during our stay but it was worth every penny, not only for the food, but also for the experience and hospitality from our waitress. If you have never tried Korean BBQ, then make sure you visit Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong whilst you are in NYC as you will not regret it..!!

I’ve had better korean bbq

By banana-chips-14 |

Service is good, but have had better BBQ. First off the cups to drink water smelled of sour cloth. The kimchi tasted expired, and the price a bit steep for the quality. Korean BBQ is always a great dining experience, so i was a bit disappointed this time.

great experience

By Thibault |

Very nice and relax atmosphere. Genuine Korean bbq restaurant with smoke vacuum above the grill. The round tables are great to talk to your colleagues without the need to yell at them if you want to be heard.

Not impressed...

By Marta A |

...booked online, waited two hours, upon arrival were told there was one more hour of waiting. Really? Then we finally got in - you can’t hear your own thoughts, not to mention the waiter, for the psychedelic music, which is so loud that they could learn from it in Asia (have been in Asia many times - never seen anything like it). And then it comes - this rushing through some dishes you have no clue about, because you don’t hear the waiter. And the amount of food you get is not impressive either. Overhyped.

Good and tasty dinner but pricey

By lynn B |

We walked by and saw the restaurant was half filled with all Asian customers so we dropped in as that was a sign for decent food. We were right, the food was good. We ordered only the beef BBQ combo for 4 and we could not finish the soup that was included. The beef was tender. The few side dishes offered were just so so. I am a fan of Korean cuisine and other places had much better side dishes. Their only side dish that I think worth mentioning was the bean sprout salad. The restaurant was very loud with the pop music. The staff was excellent, very friendly and provided good service. BBQ for 4 and 25% tips com out to $150 without any drink. I had tried another BBQ joint up the street and the food is excellent but is much quieter. If you like fun & loud, this is the place to be. If you want to enjoy your food without having a headach, head up the street for other BBQ joints.

Great place

By Ted Q |

While looking for late night food, we happened upon this place. The place stands out compared to nearby buildings. There are interesting characters on the walls, but I don't know if its the owner, chef, or maybe a Korean celebrity? The food is amazing, I had the Korean BBQ, and it was the best I've had. The price is a little high. Service was helpful, but not very friendly. They came to our table to light the grill, take orders, clean up, and did all of their jobs well, but they weren't much for small talk or offering assistance.

Great service subpar quality of meat

By xenoverse |

We had high expectations of Kang Ho Dong before going in and the experience was a little disappointing. Let me say this first, the service was superb and I’d give it 5/5 but the choice of meat and the quality of the meat was subpar thus this 3/5 rating. The check-in was pretty straightforward and hassle free. In fact, I really liked them using this text messaging notification system to tell me my table is ready while I’m shopping in nearby stores. When I arrived after receiving a text message telling us that our table is ready we found that everything was already in place. That’s a really good experience to have. Our server was very professional and helped us prepare the meat while we were busy enjoying the food. He helped us barbecuing the meat which was good but at the same time I felt we were being rushed to finish eating and to get out of there. I felt that I wasn’t given the option to sit down, barbecue the meat myself and have dinner at my own page. The choice of meat was not a lot and the ones we ordered were not the best we’ve had in a Japanese or Korean BBQ restaurant. The meat was also expensive. I don’t mind expensive meat as long as they are of high quality that justify the price tag. In this case I felt the price wasn’t justified. Overall a good Korean BBQ experience with good service but a disappointment for us.

This was amazing!

By caloriecounter |

My husband and I met friends in the city and just happened upon this place.we lucked out that for a Saturday it was still early enough to beat the crowds. By the time we left there was quite a line waiting. This was my first time at this kind of restaurant. Our server/ cook was very friendly and explained how it all works and made suggestions. Our meal was delicious and the preparation was fun. All of the suggestions turned out to be great. I can't wait to return!

Great Korean BBQ spot

By David M |

I had the boneless marinated short ribs. At $39.99 they were a little pricey, but were they ever good. They are cooked at your table. The take the meat from the bones and then throw away the bones. I didn't have a chance to speak up quick enough...make sure they cook the bones too...great for chewing on. The ribs were served with a number of side dishes like tofu, salad, sliced green onion, kim chee, an absolutely wonderful corn and cheese side as well as a scrambled egg side.

Recommended Korean BBQ in NYC

By Dana Los Angeles |

Good space and excellent food in a nice layout for authentic Korean food. Location is adjacent to busy Korean shopping area. Very likely to return. Recommended.

Worst experience

service and food was terrible. never recommend even if there were so many tables empty they still put a line on a front of the restaurant to show off

One of the leading Korean BBQ restaurants in the city.

By TangoNY |

Super tasty and vibrant Korean BBQ happening all over it. Lots of celebs visited this place. It’s massive and very lively. Great good. Worth the visit.

Short visit

By Klint_12 |

Had hi hopes for this place. However as we sat down, waitress spilled glass of water all over me, and for her this seemed to be just fine. (Or the other staff). Decided to just leave.

Good Korean BBQ

By Maria ‘Bing’ Reid |

We tried this and loved it. Each table as a large working exhaust so the BBQ smoke does not go to your clothes. The meats are good cuts and they serve many vegetables prior to the time your meats are delivered to be cooked on the grill in the center. Place is in two floors. There seems to have more vegetables here than pickled items found in other Korean BBQ restaurants. They are efficient and they help you cook your food at the table.

Local Korean in NYC

By 238antonyp |

Great service!!! Great food that’s all you need!! BBQ is a definite!!! Be prepared to wait but it’s worth it!! Ask the server to recommend - they know what’s good The seafood pancake is awesome

Good fun!

By LifeIsGood511 |

Really fun dining- each table has a BBQ grill in the middle where the server cooks your chosen meat. Interesting rim around the grill where they pour egg batter which slowly cooks as you're dining. Great range of free condiments- loved the tofu and kimchi- which they replenish for free. It seems a tad expensive buying the meat, but when condiments (includes 2 salads, fish cake strips, sweet potato chunks as well as kimchi and tofu) taken into account not too bad.

A little bit fun, but not tasty at all

By Alex F |

I was advised to visit this restaurant by a friend of mine because it "should be authentic korean bbq", he said. Unfortunately, meat is fried by a "waiter", not by you, so it's hardly authentic. Recommended to those who want pricey raw hot meat.

Food as theatre

By maestromary |

My wife and I visited here on our New York trip. The restaurant is bustling, service good and food delicious. We had the BBQ rib eye which comes with a range of sides - salads, tofu, kimchi, sweet potato, and dipping sauces. The steak is cooked by the server at the table on an table BBQ. The food was fabulous. Plus the added bonus was food as theatre. Also tried the gyoza - these were great. Great night out.

Go to this restaurant prepared to eat a lot of food

By sybil85 |

I ate lunch here recently with a friend of mine. The meat was very good, and you do get a lot. But it is very expensive. About $40 per person for lunch. I haven't eaten this much food in a long time. It's also very noisy there, but management was very accommodating about it and lowered the loud music once there weren't too many people there. Very much appreciated. Management was very friendly and helpful. I'm glad that I tried the restaurant. Definitely go hungry.

Very good

By Pablo V |

I had to wait for about 20min but it was worth it, The meat was very good quality, the service was also very good and quick. enjoyed it a lot

Still hungry after $90 per person

By flyingmg |

Our group ordered from their set menus. With tax, about $90 per person. The meat portions are very small. Every one of us are still hungry after dinner. I ended up buying a pizza slice on my way back.

Fantastic Experience

By markitiki |

This was my first Korean BBQ restaurant, same for the folks I was with. Luckily, our server and her team figured this out quickly and became very attentive and made sure to explain everything. The concept itself was a really neat experience. The food was very good and there was plenty of it!! Pricing was a little on the high side- but I suppose it is on par with NYC. Seating was also slightly uniqure in that you sit on smaller chairs lower to the ground which could make things tough for some.

Authentic and delicious Korean food

By ChungyanChow |

The five senses is a good Korean restaurant. It's authentic and inexpensive. The service is quick and friendly. It's always busy so it's not easy to find a table during peak hours.

Great Korean BBQ!

By Kelsea F |

I have been to Baekjeong twice and enjoyed both times! There is always a wait for Korean BBQ in K-town but both times i visited Baekjeong, we waited less than expected. The beef is great there and they are good about refilling the sides when you ask. It is loud and there are a lot of large groups so it is a lively atmosphere. They also play a mix of k-pop and US pop music and turn the lights down for birthday celebrations. Overall, great food and fun atmosphere - would be my first pick for KBBQ in NYC's K-town.

Korean BBQ and Super Good!

By Tony K |

So we ate at Kang Ho Dong with clients who recommended we try it. We were a large party and were seated within 5 minutes, despite the long line out the front door. The place is comprised of tables, round and long, with cooking flames centered at each. Menu and items can be somewhat confusing or at least they were for me. We selected the rib eye which was thin sliced and another meat choice which I can not recall, but it was just as good. The server cooks it and tends to other tables as well. Drinks choices were limited but did the job. The sides of pickled items, such as the radish and beans were simply great. Each cut of meat was cooked perfect. The corn and egg cooked along side the grill was interesting but did not have any real taste. All in all a fun place and would recommend Kang Ho Dong to anyone wanting to try authentic Korean BBQ. Oh and the Kim-chi was very good too.

nice BBQ

By yujiawan |

We had beef combo small set,it’s enough for 2 ladies. Beef was fresh, grilled by waiter it was nice and meat can be well made. Taste was tasty.

Excellent no frills korean bbq

By jimhgil |

Had lunch there and the food was fantastic. They don't give you a lot of side dishes but it's enough for lunch. The lunch specials are also very reasonable. For under $15 you can leave full and very satisfied. I would go back and try dinner one of these days.

Beef Combo delights

By Novi V |

After few days struggling to find decent restaurants during our visit to NY, we finally found one that satisfies our tastebuds (primarily because we’re Asians) but my Caucasian husband agreed with us. Opt for the Beef Combo and you get to taste pork belly too! Side dishes were amazing and plentiful.

Outstanding

By Hello_Mr_Anderson |

1st time I've visited a Korean BBQ and I probably did it wrong. That being said, everything was excellent. Kimchi stew was excellent. Service was helpful and attentive. It is a little pricy ($88 for 2) but great food, service and an excellent experience.

Very good Korean Restaurant

By Franck V |

This restaurant is very wide and bright. The pork is grilled on a stove together with eggs and corns. This is the only restaurant I know doing this. Every thing is absolutly fresh and tasty.

Like In Korea!

By Eioval |

This BBQ restaurant is very very close to the ones you find in Korea! The food was amazing and the small beef combo was enough for 3 people at least even if we were only 2 (we ate like pigs). Very good quality of beef. Very good kimchi stew and a lot of side dishes! The atmosphere is like a BBQ place in Korea! I TOTALLY recommend it as it was ones of our highlight dishes in a trip to NYC! Amazing service.

Perfect

By M A |

I’m not expert in Korean food but the food was really tasty. The ambience is good and the design of tables is unique. I liked this place and it is an experience itself. Staff were professional.

Amazing Korean BBQ!!!

By MICHAELK710 |

If you love Korean BBQ, there is no way you haven't heard of this quickly growing and expanding chain restaurant. It has high quality and great tasting food and meat, well complemented with an amazing and highly efficient staff. There's really no point in trying to explain...you have to go there and try it for yourself. It's price is on the higher side...but if you wanted good steak or pasta or seafood...you might drop some money once in a while right? I will definitely go there again!

Excellent

By Liliana G |

This was my first time at a Korean barbecue- it was great . Food cooked on a grill at the table , unlimited refills on side dishes. We had fried pork skin , short ribs and pork belly- delicious. Remember to ask for rice, if you enjoy it

Frist time trying korean bbq - delicious!

By maisie9269 |

It was our first time trying Korean BBQ and after trawling up and down Koreatown, we found this place packed with people but it looked authentic and delicious so we decided to give it a try. We were told there was a 30 minute wait so we popped across the road for some bubbletea whilst we waited. Our server was friendly and told us about the side dishes and what we could order (and thankfully gave us a hand with the cooking as we had no idea what we were supposed to do!). We went for a beef combo which was delicious and a great choice! If we were to go back to New York in the future, we would definitely come back here again!

Food Was Delicious and Good Service!

By Banhwagon |

Food at Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong was delicious! The three of us had the large beef combo. It was a good amount of food but we weren't stuffed. Service was pretty good as well!

Love it.

By Sunflower Li |

This is probably the best Korea BBQ i had in NYC. Love it. The food is yummy. I enjoy the BBQ pork and the salad, Spicy Tofu soup. It give a new image of flushing. Will certainly back here again soon. You know the food, you like the place:)

Fun lunch

By Curious traveller |

Our first time doing Korean BBQ and it was a fun lunch. The servers were really helpful in telling us what to order and how to use the many accompaniments which they bring to the table. It got quite busy. It is fairly pricey for lunch.

My go-to KBBQ, when I can get a table

By Harris B |

Great food, and this is the place to go, if you're on the fence about KBBQ. Really, its the best of the breed. I always go for the meat KBBQ, but see alot of people go for the pork. if you're into drinks, I love the green and yellow sake mixed drinks here. Great service, with fun servers.

Fantastic Newbie experince

By MtnRob_dad |

We went knowing it sounded good, but not knowing what we would need to do. Would we be cooking our own food? The answer is no. They helped us with everything from beer selection to how to combine the food. You have two choices- Pork or Beef, we did both. We had a blast and really enjoyed the whole experience.

Very impressive

By nutmeggroup |

Great all around you gotta go here very nice setup sides are great and the bbq is awesome tried the pork and beef Very nice meat selection

So much delicious food!!!

By Josey311 |

Of all the choices, so happy we picked Baekjeong for Korean BBQ! Great value and delicious food. Beef combo comes with numerous sides and Kimchi stew, more than enough for four people. Everyone left satisfied. Attentive and pleasant staff. Thanks! Looking forward to my next trip.

Excellent in every aspect

By Ariana Briena G |

This place was amazing! We love Korean BBQs, and it is safe to say that this restaurant provided us with the best experience so far. We loved every aspect of our dinner and I'll run through them below. The place is very nice, welcoming and nicely decorated in a simple and catchy way. The staff is fairly young, fresh, and extremely nice and accommodating. Additionally, we appreciated the fact that they were quick and on the ball at all times. We loved the fact that they explained everything they served and whatever they were doing. They also were brilliant in explaining the menus, the dishes and meat cuts, everything. It was a great pleasure talking to them, as they were so welcoming and genuine. One aspect that was different for us was that the restaurant's staff are the ones cooking the dishes for you; they explained about them being specifically trained to cook the meats for the best texture, flavour, and taste. This was a bit surprising, as we were expecting to cook the food ourselves (as so far in all Korean BBQ restaurants this was the 'policy'), but it felt nice to be spoiled like that. We ordered a beef combo menu that surprised us with a variety of side dishes next to the meats we ordered. The meat cuts were incredibly tasty, tender, and full of flavour, and most important, cooked to perfection. The side dishes came in the form of a selection of vegetarian dishes (salad, pickles, kimchi - one of the best I've had, omlette, corn, peppers and onions, tofu, mushrroms) which just added to the burst of flavours. It was definitely one of the best dinners we had during our stay in NY. The price may seem high for some, but in our eyes, it was very good even if only for the quality of the food provided (not considering service and portion sizes); totally worth it! My only regret was (still is) that my stomach could not take any more food.. It is worth to mention that the place was packed, and I would expect for it to be like this all the time as I am certain it is popular with both locals and tourists. So, I think a booking is a good idea. There is no doubt that we will return to Baekjeong if we return to NYC!

Popular Korean bbq place

By happymommywith3 |

This is a very popular place for Korean BBQ. We have been wanting to try it, but the long lines kept us away. We finally decided to check it out on a Sunday evening. Even at 7:30, we had to wait half an hour for a table. We ordered the special, 2 kinds of beef and a pork BBQ and a seafood pancake. Place is very "young", from the loud music, waiters, and customers. The venting system does such a good job, that I believe it was the first time I don't smell like BBQ afterwards. The waiter was super efficient tending our BBQ as well as the other tables nearby. Kimchi and lettuce is refilled whenever needed. It was a good evening and my daughters enjoyed it as they fit right in. The prices excluding specials are on the high side for Korean BBQ. So going with a group makes it more reasonable.

Korean heaven

Great food. And the service was also great. We thought we would have to wait but we were seated quickly.

What an experience!

By Marrah |

An amazing experience. We have never tried Korean BBQ before, but we’re really well looked after by a fab waiter. Food was amazing, we tried a mixed platter which comes with everything you need - all the sides and dips etc… it might look expensive at first glance, but felt it good value. Food was beautiful, service amazing and atmosphere fantastic.

Most Excellent Korean BBQ in the Heart of Mid-town

By RichL06 |

Believe me it is worth the wait and in initial Baek jeong raucous modern ambience. Meats are well marinated in tradional Korean marinades to corresponding selections of meats that is not overpowering but we'll compliments the meats flavor and grilled tastes. The banchans are unique to Baekjeong and not found elsewhere in Koreatown but maintain the rules of the Korean Table in a unique way. The most interesting and complimentary to the BBQ is the beet juice pickled Korean radish slices that freshens the meats. And of course the scallion salad with its uniquely Korean cochugang dressing. A must try in NYC'S Koreatown.

great korean bbq

By Sang C |

been here 3 times in the last 2 months and the food is fantastic. Although very busy, the service is on point. Plenty of korean bbq restaurants in the area but this is probably in my top 2. I definitely will be going back!

Encore.... yummy ^.^

By BreadChan |

I have been flying to Manhattan many times before with colleagues for business trip. We tried many Korean food because Korean street is near to our office. Kang Ho Dong is a new try to us. It's good that we, a group of 4 all love the food there. Simpliy saying, for sure we will encode on coming trip : P

Dining is Outside Only. Luckily it was a beautiful night in the City.

By diane362436 |

We were seated right away under a nice tent. The restaurant did a great job. Food was fresh and expertly made, not too salty. I can’t wait to try inside sometime, I’d love to cook the meat at my table, but the waitstaff did a nice job bringing the meat out already cooked on a grill screen. I gave this restaurant an excellent because they definitely made the best of a bad situation (COVID). Staff was attentive and courteous.

Korean BBQ

By bouxiong |

Amazing Korean BBQ. Love the value and the service, but for sure the food was amazingly great. I recommend this place if you love BBQ. We met up with friend and had a larger group. This place was packed but we didn't wait so long for our table. Since there was a lot of us, we did the combo meals, both large order of pork and beef. Either one of them was good but I think it just depends if you like beef or pork more. I specially like the beef. Love all of the side dishes as well. I think the price is worth it, and it was enough food for all of us. Go there if you want Korean BBQ.

Excellent Korean BBQ

By JenCasler |

This was recommended to us by a shop owner in Chinatown. We specifically went to Korea Town for this BBQ and it did not disappoint. We ordered the beef for two and it was delicious. We were seated upstairs because it was so crowded, but we were well attended by our server. The sides were cooked around the meat grill and consisted of corn with white cheese (odd, but tasty), and cooked egg (yummy). There were a number of cold sides you could mix with the meat, including a soy bean paste that really brought out the flavor of the meat. Will go here again when we return to NYC.

First Korean Bbq we didnt quite know what to expect but having visited it while on holidays we have talked about the meal we recieved on many occasions and can not wait to return on our next trip. Great Fun and great food!

Satisfying food and fun environment!

By Jules |

I've dined at this restaurant twice in the past few months - it has absolutely delicious Korean bbq and is such a fun environment for before or after a night out. The only thing I noticed was a difference in cost and what was provided between December 2019 and February 2020. A few days before Christmas my friend and I went for a late dinner and received what we deemed a smaller than normal portion for Kbbq even though we ordered double. We only had water to drink. The final bill came and the price was double what we expected it to be. But it was delicious and very late so we paid and left. I went back in February with a friend who had lived in Korea for a time and he too had been here before and loved it, so we returned. We ordered HALF of what I ordered in December and got DOUBLE the amount of meat. We also had 3-4 alcoholic drinks each and the total wasn't much higher than what it had been in December. This makes me question what exactly happened? I would be weary when visiting this restaurant again, but the food was fantastic so just keep an eye open.

Appreciate the friendliness!

By NotFurlong |

I was given a gift certificate to use on my recent trip to New York. However I was by myself and unfamiliar with the menu. The waiter was very kind in explaining what to order and how to eat some of the unfamiliar dishes. Being on my own and having never tried Korean BBQ before, this was very much appreciated. But I must especially thank Sean who was bartending when I was there. Sean went out of his way to make me feel welcome and even had a drink with me. That type of attention and friendliness goes a long way! I was honestly expecting a cool and popular place like this to be a little cold or pretentious, but I found just the opposite. I will definitely come back with some guests. Thank you!

Delicious!

By mrespiritu |

So I've been to other places in Koreatown but this one was the best by far. Had the BBQ and the beef was tender, juicy and best of all, thick. Had some spicy pork too and that didn't disappoint. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was fun. The music might have been a tiny bit loud though. Otherwise, great place!

Graduation celebration

By Abbott |

Food is great, confirmed and verified by my daughter who had previously visited the place numerous times as she lines in the City. Our party of 7 waited patiently at least 45 minutes 8 pm on a Monday night for our turn to be accommodated but were cramped in a six seating table. Needless to say, the experience was unpleasant when I see my family eating with their shoulders touching each other! It bothers me more when I look around and see four people in a six seater table and/or two people in a four seater table. We could ordered for more food but when some of the members in our party decides to leave early to go across the street looking for a bar with food, I realized I was not the only one feeling uncomfortable! The eating experience was really dampened by poor accommodation.

Wonderful Experience

By aritra p |

Amazing food, experience & service and that too at such an affordable price. Was hands down the best food I tasted in my short trip to NYC. The Pork Belly B'BQ was amazing both in taste and the way they cooked & served at your table. The accompaniments were very colorful, varied & tasty. Would definitely visit again!

Little Bit of Seoul

By billyb52 |

We don't eat Korean BBQ often but this place was delicious and lots of fun. We went on a Wednesday evening early and did not have to wait too long although it was very busy. The staff is young helpful and cooks the meal at your table. It was a delicious culinary trip to Korea.

Amazing food and experience!!!

By Melissa N |

Great experience and service! They cook n cut up the meat for us too. A lot of celebrities photos on the wall that has eaten there. Best food we have during the entire week of our vacation.

This place isnt so kid friendly but its a good date spot for late night cravings of korean food! Get reaady to lose some money as it is pricey!

This place is busy for a reason!

By dy87 |

A friend recommended us to check out Kang Ho Dong for our first New York trip and this restaurant certainly does not disappoint at all. We headed there around 7 on a Friday night and put down our name (the 1 hour wait did not deter us at all). I did not find the possibility to make a reservation for under 6; but definitely worth checking that fact again. It happened to be quite convenient as we went to the Empire State Building (5 mins away) for the observatory (which took around 1 hour by the time we lined up to buy our tickets, and then do the 80th and 86th floors). When your table is ready, you will receive a text, and you can then confirm so that they know you are on your way, or decline so that they can give your table away. As we walked back in, the restaurant is a very well-oiled machine - the waiters greeted us and our table was already ready with the small dishes (lettuce, salad, bean sprouts, tofu, cucumber, dipping sauce etc). You get to then select the meat you want or the combo. They also have a vegetarian combo. We ended up with the pork combo, although I'm sure if there was more of us, we would have gotten some of the beef options as well. The server actually cooks your food, which I was pleasantly surprised since living in Vancouver, many Korean restaurants just have you cook your own at your pace. Having someone experienced good it was nice because you did not have to worry whether it was too hot or not hot enough, and he knew exactly how to maneuver the meat and kitchen equipment. The meat was of excellent quality. hmm the pork belly still makes my mouth waters thinking about it. We had a spicy marinated pork as well and they were done to perfection; full of flavour and tender! The portions are also very generous. It does not seem like a lot of food at first, but when you start eating the small dishes, the soup, and the egg/corn/cheese, it starts getting filling quite quickly. Service was fast and efficient. We barely had to wait as soon as we put in our order. My friend ordered the milk soju cocktail and I ended up with the lemon yuzu one. Both delicious! The bill came down under $100 for 2 people with 2 cocktails which was super reasonable. I would highly recommend to check out this place whether you are familiar with Korean bbq or not. This restaurant will be one I will recommend and talk about to friends and family for a long time.

Excellent BBQ

By davidloew |

Great service, although very crowded (which is usually a good sign). Beef combo was great. Enough food for 3 or 4. Lots of side dishes. I'd definitely go back.

BEST Korean BBQ Ever

By Zack Oates |

I friggn' LOVE Korean BBQ, but this place tops them all. I went with some buddies and had a fantastic time. The seat turns into a holding container, perfect for our bags. The food was 'wheelchair me out of here' good! For sure get the marinated beef and the beef shoulder. I still dream of those dishes.

First time, great experience

By JCSITraveller |

We got here just by coincidence, place was full and caught our attention. Walked in and inmediately noticed we were in a completly asian enviroment - which we loved!!!- Seated inmediately and asked for some advice as it was our first time in a Korean BBQ. Suggestions were amazing, beef tenderloin, spicy rice and eggs, and some other items that gave us a wonderful experience. Highly recommended!!!

That cheese corn though!!

By Jetsetter_Foodie90 |

My husband and I stopped in while we were visiting NYC. We have become huge Korean bbq fans so this was definitely a spot we wanted to check out. The Yogurt beverage was neat! (Like drinking a popsicle) and the unique part about the meal was the cheese and corn that cooked on the side of our grill. It paired wonderfully with the meats. Fun experience! My only suggestion would be to have a premium meats section to choose from like some other Korean bbq joints.

Excellent - like being in Korea

By Birgitte M |

Had such a great Korean dinner - the pork combo for 2. So much food. But excellent and tasty. And great service from the young staff. Felt like being in Seoul.

Discovering Korea in New York.

By YesWeCannes |

First time visit, we were attracted by the long line. Totally worth it. Ribeye a la Korean...TOP! Even our son (6) enjoyed the varieties. Not for large groups, tight place.

Sooooo good.

By BillyRo_13 |

First time at a Korean BBQ, we got there about 9pm. They had a table upstairs. Staff is all very friendly and helpful if you're new to the Korean BBQ game. This place was awesome. Small beef combo. Plenty of food for the two of us. Quality cuts of meat, we walked out stuffed.

So good! So spicy!

By AM_Texas95 |

We stopped here after exploring at the Empire State Building. Had to wait about an hour but they take a cell number and text when your table is ready. We order the beef family combo. The table is set with lots of interesting things to try, pickled beets, spiced cucumbers, tofu and more. The waiter prepares the order and then everyone jumps in.

LUNCH AFTER TRAIN TRIP

By mikeypanza |

I had the Galbi Jjim Lunch Set which was very good for my first try at Korean Food in the Big Apple. My wife had the Spicy Pork Bly Lunch Set which surprised her, because she wasn't expecting the 'taste' of the Pork to be so bad. She did enjoy the entree leading up to the lunch and of course the Sapporo Beer she had to chase everything down with.

Very good

By Benjamin C |

Super crowded and small, so get there early. The food was very good but pricey for the amount you get. Service was good. Fun interactive meal, go with friends

Long wait but worth it

By Patricia A |

They don't take reservations for parties smaller than 6 so you have to wait in line. Be sure to give your name to the hostess so she adds you to the wait list on her iPad. You get a text on your phone when your table is almost ready. We got there around 6:30 Saturday night and we waited a full 45 minutes. We got the beef combo. I asked how many people that serves and they said 2. But I think it would have fed 3. There were 4 of us and we also got the seafood tofu stew and octopus with noodles. There was plenty of food! We were so full! The waitress cooks the meat for you and it's delicious! The venting is great; you don't walk out smelling like Korean BBQ. The stools have lids so you can put your belongings inside the stools. They've got everything down to a science!

Declining in appeal

By jettpac |

Great when they started but seems to be riding their own coattails. Nothing new or exciting anymore just crowded.

First visit, great experience!

By Jess2712 |

Me and my husband visited Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong as the first meal on our New York visit and didn't disappoint! Was a lovely experience having your food cooked right in front of you on a small BBQ in the middle of your table. Meat was delicious (we chose the beef) and worked well with all the various side dishes that it came with. Would recommend!

Really cool experience! Lots of food in the combo!

By Emma Z |

I am so happy this place caught our eye when we were walking around NYC. It was busy on the inside and looked like a cool experience so we stopped by. We were seated in a few minutes and our server explained the whole process and each side dish to us. She was very helpful and nice. We had a the pork combo for the two of us and it was plenty of food. I like how the whole restaurant staff greats new tables as they sit!

Tasty Korean BBQ

By alkeni |

The food was great! You will be paying about $55/person. Raw meats are brought to your table and there is a waiter who will cook it for you as they know the doneness of the meats. All the side dishes are excellent....kim chee, salad, sprouts, corn with mozzarella cheese, and egg.

Saveur says it's the place to eat

By ZenDark30 |

With a recommendation from Saveur magazine and a pic of the actor Ice-T, we had to taste for ourselves what the fuss was about with this Korean BBQ restaurant. First off, know that New York's Korea town is full of restaurants that have "Kang" in their name. You'll know this restaurant by the celebrity wall of photos near the entrance, and a map of the world. Another clue is that the servers all wear t-shirts with a butchers rendition of pork cuts of meat. When you arrive you'll be given the choice for BBQ. Obviously you can opt out but that would be foolish. After all, this is the reason for choosing this place. Next you'll be seated to a table full of small plates of pickled radishes, pickled cabbage, tofu, BBQ sauce, a pile of lettuce leaves, seasoned sprouts, and other delights that may seem indistinguishable if you aren't familiar with banchan (Korean tapas). No worries, you'll be provided with a cheat sheet to help you eat authentically. Start with the salads while the egg, sweet corn and chopped veges start stimulating your appetite. Your server will do it all. Depending on what you order the meat will be cooked in stages. Take your time and graze on the side dishes while your meat sizzles. While designed to complement the meal and typically interspersed between bites of the BBQ, it's fine to ask for refills of the sides. Use the ssam or lettuce sheets as a wrap. Start by smearing the ssamjang (a funky BBQ like paste) on the lettuce leave and fill it like a Mexican burrito with your favorite ingredients. Pro tip: At classy Korean BBQ places, servers do all the grilling. Be patient and enjoy the show by letting him or her do it.

Father's Day brunch

By Mommamia1217 |

I LOVED! LOVED! LOVED! this restaurant! It was a culinary experience. I had never had Korean barbecue before- Now I am absolutely hooked. We sat at a round table with a grill in the center. Scattered all over the table were condiments such as watermelon radish, silken tofu, kimchi, romaine lettuce, scallions & korean chili paste. Our server/chef brought out a bunch of different raw meat and cooked it on the grill for us in various courses. If you've never had Korean barbecue before- you eat the freshly grilled meat with the previously mentioned condiments. For example, you might take a piece of grilled beef and wrap it in lettuce with kimchi and scallions. Our meal included a kimchi stew that might be the best thing I've ever eaten. If you enjoy spicy, I highly recommend it. The service was stellar. All the severs/chefs worked in concert. Whenever the lettuce or any other condiment was running low they were quick to bring more. I suspect that this is a famous hotspot. When you walk in you are struck with a wall of celebrities who have eating in the restaurant. For four people the bill was around $120. Considering the amount of time we were there, the abundance of food, and the level of service we received, I found it to be completely reasonable. This restaurant is a no brainer- JUST DO IT!

2pm no queue! Taste good!

By AdraineLovesSpain |

We went there after visiting the Empire State as it is very close. We ordered a large beef combo which is big enough for us all. Shame that they do not do combo in mix of beef and pork but I can understand why they don't. The waiter cooked for us which is the first time experience for me as I always do the BBQ myself. The meats were good quality and that's why they were tasty.

The best Korean BBQ Ive ever had

By Nellley |

Their Beef was so tender and they offered a lot of sauces and sides that accompanied which were equally great.

Works for me

By Bi_P0lar |

Good restaurant. We walked in on a Thursday at 5:15. Place doesn’t take reservations and was about 1/3 full. Dinner for 4 drinking only water was 120. Clientele generally falls into 2 groups. Koreans or westerners hanging out with Koreans. Ventilation was good . They place a vent right over the barbecue pit in the middle of the table. Also they cook the meat for you. Surprised my wife as she was getting ready to do just that. Plenty of side dishes but nothing extremely spicy. When we left an hour later the place was about 2/3 full and more people were arriving. I’d go back but there are also plenty of other restaurants that are just as good in Manhattan.

A place not to come back

By Eduardo D |

The food is ok, but just ok. The place is not really clean (tables, floor and bathroom were dirty) and the service is bad. A place not to come back.

Great food but the music is way too loud

By tgalis |

We went for a a friends' dinner yesterday to Baekjeong. You cannot make reservations, but the wait was shorter than we thought. We got the summer special and a kimchi pancake. The food was absolutely amazing. The music blasts very loudly and you cannot really hear each other. I recommend it for the food, but not if you want conversation. The service is not on the attentive side of things.

Looooong wait

By Dan de Padua |

We arrived at around 6:00 pm on a Saturday and were finally seated at around 8:00 pm. We would have left if the host didn't move us in stages from the street to the foyer to the second floor. It was extremely noisy and the chair--a big can with an upholstered lid, really--was uncomfortable. But the barbecued beed combo was really good. The seafood pancake was also a revelation. Stay away from the pork jowl.

King of Korea town

By ShanilD |

It was recommended by a friend and we decided to check it out, didn't it would be crowded on a weekday but it was packed. The setting and layout upstairs was very authentic, low stools, loud korean pop music and the smell of sizzling meat just made it a very authentic dining experience. Other than the amazing selection of seasoned meats they have a vast selection of sides, salads and sauces which makes the meal complete. If you like your Korean BBQ don't hesitate to try out Baekjeong.

Great from Start to Finish

By Unclegus621 |

The place was super crowded and our host made every effort to accommodate us as quickly as possible. Kwang Mo was our server and he was both attentive and helpful in “walking us through the menu”. The food was expertly prepared. Yes it’s a bit crowded and chaotic but that’s part of the charm. I would recommend it and agree that one should book in advance or prepare to wait.

Our first Korean BBQ

By Excalibr |

Our party of four arrived on a Tuesday night around 6PM, we were told about 40 minutes, and were sat promptly. The restaurant has a great vibe here. You can feel the the anticipation of guests waiting to see there dinner cooked right before their eyes. Approaching the table you can't help but notice the condiments covering the table, each one more unique than the other. I was definitely disappointed with the server, I expected more interaction. Yes or No answers seemed to be a struggle. We went with the flow. Ordered the Beef Combo with the Short Ribs and an order of the Pork Collar. The food preparation was unique and fun to watch. I would like to mention the fact that they prepare and cook on that grill in front of you over and over, and yet the cooking surfaces were immaculate. They looked brand new. The meats were delicious; tender and flavorful. It was fun pairing the meats with the array of condiments provided. We also had the Kimchi Stew witch was fantastic. Overall; a little bland on the service, but a great introduction to Korean BBQ.

Excellent marinated meats

By BobNewtown |

This was a fun place. The marinated meats were outstanding. Lots of sides. Family style. Drinks just ok.

It's an experience!

By AC88888 |

The hostess here was kind of confusing, although I do give her credit for managing a large crowd of hungry people! There is lots of waiting to be done, and then when you get your second text message, you get to wait some more! We grabbed a drink at Bangia next door (pretty chill place) while we waited. It is busy and noisy in here, definitely a fun experience to have your meats cooked to perfection! The cheese corn moat was unexpected and a delicious combination! So many dishes and sides even before you get started. We got the large beef combo, which was $99, it comes with three kinds of meat. Enough for three people, or maybe two hungry people. Some marinated, some not. Don't remember all the details, this is not that kind of specific review. All I know is that it was delicious. The melon makgeolli was refreshing and great to share! Service was sufficient. I appreciate they are busy and want to get as many people in and out as possible. It's not a spend time here as long as you want here kind of place, more like a eat your food, here is your bill kind of place, and I could feel that. We went to Bangia next door again to have more drinks. Shoutout to Bangia.

Fun way to celebrate 21st birthday

By Kristen D |

We choose the restaurant to celebrate our son's 21st birthday with family and friends. The goal was a fun interactive way to enjoy a meal and celebrate together and Baekjeong did not disappoint. We were given a two hour window in a separate glass enclosed area to celebrate together. The area was large enough for the 17 of us to have a cocktails standing up before sitting down for dinner. The dedicated waitress was mindful of our time and kept the evening moving, she also managed the drink orders very efficiently through out the dinner. We preordered (and had to pay in advance) the mix pork and beef menu. We all enjoyed the meat and sides. Somehow most of us missed the cheesy corn, I guess we were talking. We didn't leave hungry but important to eat all the sides as well. I could understand some feeling the amount of food was on the lower side. We brought in our own cake, the server managed it for us. The restaurant checked in with me a few hours before arrival and I was able to request beer on the tables for guest arrivals. Groups within the separate room do not need to wait for all parties to be present before seating. I had high hopes for a fun evening and I was very pleased with the result.

Good Korean BBQ

By ucartech |

We're fortunate when we came, the wait lines still few. However, one hour after we finished our dinner, the wait line already quite crowded. We ordered beef and pork BBQ, one soup and gyerancim. Overall, the taste is good even though isn't as good as the Korean BBQ restaurant we had in Flushing. However, the service is fast and efficient and they seemed to make their guest to finish their meal faster due to long wait lines and butterly cold temperature outside. Price for me is quite expensive this must be due to location in busy New York 32nd street.

Sooo good!!!

By 1beachfun |

We don't have very many Korean BBQ places where I am from so when on vacation in NYC, we made sure we found somewhere to go. This place was highly recommended by friends. For 4, we got a large pork and beef combo for about $80. We could have ordered more but were so full with the soup and all the side dishes. The rice wasn't included. I wish there were more places like this where I am from. I definitely recommend to anyone who loves Korean food or Asian style BBQ. The server comes and cooks the food right in front of you. It is so fresh. LOVE IT!

Best Korean BBQ!

By Tunaidi |

Definitely one of the best Korean BBQ places I've been to. I think this Kang Ho Dong joint is even better than the one in LA. The quality of the meats, the marinades, and the variety are all top notch. Service is impeccable. Waits are tolerable because they'll take you number and send you updates via text messaging. Just make sure you're willing to spend money; otherwise, it'll probably be a bitter experience.

Delicious experience!

By Phoebe W |

My partner and I spent a lovely couple of hours here tonight. We started with a beer at the bar while we waited for our table. We were then taken upstairs where a set table awaited us with all sorts of dishes! We chose the beef and pork $79.99 combo and it was delicious! So fresh and tasty. The stew with clams and beef was also very nice. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere, we would return!

NOT AS GOOD AS IN THE PAST

By Harvey M |

About a year ago I had the Prime Boneless Short Rib here and I thought it was fantastic. Today, December 17th it was just okay and I would not order it again. I had half the served portion cooked medium and the other half cooked medium-rare. The medium-rare portion was the more flavorful of the two.

Great experience!

By Jerseytraveler08540 |

It was my first time at Korean BBQ and what a great experience! Everything was delicious and the wait staff always seemed to be nearby when needed. Fortunately, we had a reservation. There was a line when we arrived and when we left. The only negative was that the music was a little loud and it was difficult to have a conversation.

Great Korean bbq

By Jay J |

In the heart of Koreatown, very typical Korean bbq. Great food, service was really nice. It is however a bit pricey and the Korean music was blasted really loud, so it can be hard to talk. All in all recommend!

Only one problem with this restaurant

By Suzanna A |

It was the loudest restaurant I've ever been in. I know I was the wrong demographic- 60 year old Korean woman who is not very old in perspective, but driving hip hop was hard even as the food was fabulous. Older diners, beware!

The best korean food in NYC!

We ordered the beef combo and it was big enough for two people. Good thing my boyfriend and I have a big appetite. The ribeye is very tender and the side veggies are amszing especially the Salad. We'll definitely go back here!

Surprised good Korean Restaurant in NYC

By simonxweng |

We had dinner at this popular Korean BBQ RESTAURANT AT EAST 32nd Street of NYC. We found this from Website but it was good and beyond my expectation. The restaurant does not accept reservation and can only be seated when all parties arrived. They boost themselves as the world best Korean BBQ and do have many branches all over the world. The foods were excellent. The services were also great. We had a very pleasant time. The only pity was the music was so loud that people have difficulties to talk.

Casual, good beef

By KestasKS |

Casual place, music could be less loud, for sure. Beef was good. It took a while to get a beer. Kimchi pancake was great.

Higher Quality Korean BBQ

By Maria ‘Bing’ Reid |

First of all, each table downstairs where we sat has its own vent so the smoke of your bbq does not get onto your clothes or your face. Their variety of vegetable plates brought to the table as appetizers are better and have less spices drowning the pickled vegetables like elsewhere. The quality of the meat is better - I think - than other places in the area serving the same Korean bbq. But the line could be very long. Try to get there in odd hours.

Best barbecue in town

By daniela511960 |

This is the best grilled meat I've ever eaten in years . Though not cheap ( 100$/small combo for 2) it's worth every penny . Be prepared to wait in line between 20 to 40 minutes to get a table , as you can not book in advance. On arrival , register at the counter and the nice girl will tell you how long it will take . Even so , it worth the waiting . Besides the tasty meat , the way they grille it right in front of you , at/on the table ,it's unique ; they also give you a lot of seasoning sauces, condiments, salads and side dishes. Although small size , there was enough food for 2 hungry people . The large size , might be too much .The waiters are very nice and helpful. Although it's always crowded, you eat quite fast after you get the table . Excellent !

Really good fun and awesome food!

By GaitanAlex |

We loved it and went the second time as well. The food is really nice and the staff very friendly and helpful! The price is ok! We recommend the beef combo with the short rib option! Our toddler ate everything bar the kimchi haha Its a fun place! Of course is not a romantic place!

1st time at a Korean restaurant

By chellemybelle |

Very good! I had bimbibop with spicy pork my girlfriend had chicken fried rice and we tried the dumplings! Everything was excellent! Although the barley tea was total new to me!

Little Wait on Tuesday

By Ricochan |

We tried to get in two other Koren BBQ places before finding this restaurant. Four of us could get in with little wait in a cold windy day. We tried raw beef, steak, and marinated meat along with the variety of side dishes. All delicious! I did not smell like I myself was BBQ-ed like some other joints. Smoke was designed to go up the tube above the BBQ grill, and I think it worked like a charm. The bathroom was clean too.

Satisfyingly Korean

By Skip_SS |

Baekjeong serves fatty beef and pork Korean BBQ style with authentic side dishes. It has two-floors full of small seats and tables with gas grills that have amazingly efficient exhaust hoods to keep the place smoke free. They grill, you eat. Except for the very loud Korean pop music blazing continuously, Baekjeong satisfies.

Authentic Korean BBQ in NYC

By rbravo |

This place was very good. The food was identical to what I had in Seoul. The prices are slightly high, but it is possible to share a large BBQ by three people. Note that the restaurant can get very crowded at times, so try to avoid peak hours.

Superb. Fast, delicious grilling experience. 4.5 rounded to a 5

By pw0867 |

There are no frills when it comes to rapid Asian service. It is very "business, business, business". But when you walk in, it is quick, clean and efficient. Very New York. You will be seated in a stainless steel like area, with stools and a big fume hood. We had the lunch BBQ which was awesome. They are not that great at instructions or explaining what you are eating, but the food was delicious. What was cool was the egg omelet you made in the "moat" around the grill. Nice compliment to the grilled meats. The added sides - kim chi, sprouts, potatoes, salad were very nice and plentiful. The 3 different kinds of beef were excellent, the short ribs, the marinated rib eye, etc. We really enjoyed it.

Incredible kbb

By broadlich |

ok you walk in and a staff member yells something in Korean and then the whole staff yells back - I just recently realized that they're greeting you! You sit down and your table has a bunch of dishes on it - these are sides / appetizers and they are free - if you run out of something they will bring you more. On the hot plate in front of you they will cook cheesy corn and egg omelet - this will cook and it's delicious. This is also free. For meat we got the marinated meat - I think a prime rib of some kind. They come put the meat on the stove, come to turn it and come to cut it - it's right in front of you but you don't have to work. Seriously check this place out

Great Korean BBQ experience!

By ATL |

Food was good and the special sauces and the beaten egg added to the flavor of the whole BBQ experience. Ordered the prime marinated rib and although it was a bit sweet it tasted good anyway.

Brilliant restaurant

By Mikeferndown |

A good sign is that the local Korean community use this restaurant... We met some friends from New York there and whilst we had to wait 30 mins to get a table, it was well worth the wait. The prices were also surprisingly reasonable given the central location

One of a kind experience

By vianahome |

First time eating Korean BBQ with the family, this place is a gem. From The minute we walked in, we were greeted by the manager and helped. Servers helped explain all the different sauces, dishes and flavors which made our experience one that we will not forget. Food is spicy, thus, if you can't have spicy food be careful. They are very accommodating when you explain to them about the "spicy situation". We will go back before we head back home. Loved this place and the entire experience of trying new dishes, Kimchi and relish radish, tofu, pork belly, lettuce wraps were awesome.

Korean barbecue

By Traveling Mario |

This popular Korean barbecue restaurant is always busy with long waiting lines. We had the beef set, which was OK, but not special. The sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. Maybe the pork set is better. The serving staff are very friendly and helpful.

Oh my goodness!!!

By Ruesga |

I ate SO MUCH I walked in and rolled out. Loved absolutely everything thing about the place but especially we loved the food. We ate everything on the menu!!!

A+ authentic

By feedthetraveller |

Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong has to be one of the most consistently good Korean BBQ in the USA. Between my friends and I, we have been to all the locations in the LA and NY area. The menus are slightly different but the meats are consistently excellent. The BBQ is great. The staff is attentive and quick. You have to line up for to get a table but they will text you when you're up. We go out of our way to hit up KHD everywhere we travel. A+

Delicious food with reasonable price

Come here Wednesday night with friends. The offer one dollar special oyster and two dollar special oyster pancake, which is a great deal in Manhattan. Highly recommend Spicy Pork Feet too!

Excellent

By Keira Mason |

Right off 5th ave- easy to find and to get to. Indoor and outdoor seating. Hibachi at each table and the servers do the cooking. Meat is excellent quality. The combo beef and pork is delicious. Love the side dishes and cooked egg and corn with melted cheese. Kalbi so flavorful- look forward to returning.

Lives up to an excellent reputation

By Dotsultant |

Our daughter took us here for "the best Korean BBQ." Since we've never had Korean BBQ, we'll take her word for it but just based on what we sampled, we'd probably agree! We went with the summer three meat special, (pork belly, short ribs, and brisket). They were all good but our favorite was the short ribs. Returning we'd stay with the short ribs. We arrived early, (5:30pm), to successfully avoid the lines. HOWEVER, you need to have your entire party present to be seated. By the time we finished, there was a long line to enter. We met the owner, Sean Cho - highly personable and an excellent host. We look forward to returning again.

Great Flavor

By James B |

This is one of the few times being a larger party (six of us) actually saved time. We were able to be seated immediately, while the wait time for groups of two was being quoted as 45 minutes when we arrived. Of note, the dumplings we ordered to start were great, as were the pork belly and ribeye. We also ordered the short rib, and after cooking cutting it, our server/bbq master put it back into the bowl of marinade that contained the raw beef a few minutes earlier and said it was ready to eat. The look of horror on the face of a chef that was in our group confirmed that this was a cardinal food safety sin. We put it back on the grill to cook out any raw meat juices back out, but by that point, it was dry and unappealing. If not for this, I would have said Baekjeong was very good to excellent.

real Korean style BBQ

By Rudi O |

we have experience in Korea with the BBQ and we would like to see how real this Korean BBQ in NYC. We can only say: the food is excellent; the service is very good and the portions are great. Once you are in NYC and you like Korean BBQ go to this place. The seating is in a long row or a table from 4. Be aware you can not make a reservation: therefore be on time!!!

Outstanding

By Familyof5 |

We visited twice in our one week stay in NYC. Having travelled from the uk and having not tried this dining experience before we needed to go again during our stay. The food was amazing and we loved the sharing element of the meal! The staff were friendly and happy to assist with questions and advice on aspects of the menu we were unsure of. This really was a great dining opportunity, for trying something new!

very good KoreanBBQ

By Derek Z |

we ordered small pork combo and a lunch box. very genuine Korean BBQ. very good experience. atmosphere is also very good.

Excellent food

By Simon C |

Went for lunch and two of us shared the small beef combo - diverse starters preceded the mains, with plenty of meat and veg between us. The meat itself was was excellent quality and very well prepared. Cooking at the table by the chef added to the occasion, and and would definitely recommend. Bill (meat combo, 1 beer, 1 (excellent) cocktail came to $120)

Great idea!

By kruezers |

We stopped here one night for something new. I had no idea what we were ordering or what to do. Our server was very helpful and we took his suggestions for choices. It was fun with a grill at your table and a great way to try Korean food.

Fun and tasty

By Bluenose934 |

We wanted a fun ethnic dining experience and this fit the bill. They cook your food, mainly meat, on this little grill in the middle of the table. Meanwhile, there are many bowls of condiments and accompaniments on the table to add to the meat. We got beef - more than enough. I loved the kimchee soup. There were lots of families with kids and groups, all having fun.

Great food and atmosphere, but long wait

By mariaortiz |

I had dinner at this place with a group of friends. They don't take reservations under 6 people so we had to wait for about 30 minutes for a table on a Wednesday night. Food was super good, service was fun and friendly. Decor was OK, the utensils were original. I had never been to a Kirean BBQ but I get the sense this is pretty authentic.

Lots and lots of meat

By Keyz |

I visited based on recommendation from a friend. This was easy to find and in what I believe to be Korea town. The restaurant is popular but as we went slightly later we had no issue getting seated. We were two diners and decided to go for the beef combo. This is A LOT of food. The sides are plentiful and they keep getting you more if they see you have finished. It's not cheap but the meat quality is excellent and you get huge portions. After that we didn't need to eat for the rest of the day so I could say it was good value for money!

Fantastic family meal

By Olav |

Went here with five kids 7-17. We all loved the food and atmosphere. Very good bbq and super service. Plenty of good meat.

SOOOOOO GOOD!

This place is just so good that you really have to go there early if you want to enjoy your Korean bbq. I am even getting hungry while writing this- yes its that good!

Good gesture

It's been a good day since I chooses this place to have fun out with my friends and had a great time with good ambiance including different varieties of food

A Quirky, but Fun Dinner Experience

By TheExplorerFamily |

We were glad to learn, as we waited in line, that this place is one of Anthony Bourdain’s “Friday Fives” Restaurant picks. We were also informed by the lady at the entrance that the place is named for the former Korean Wrestler – turned – Comedian – Kang Ho Dong. There are “Piggy” cartoons everywhere – from the frames to the curtains, to the signs on the bathroom doors, -- because that was the wrestler’s nickname. And “Baekjeong” means Butcher in Korean. For us, it is always interesting to know such facts. After a very LONG wait, we finally entered into a hall that was bustling, noisy and smoky. It was quite overwhelming, with people talking loudly over the blasting music, and servers whizzing speedily around the tables -- turning and cooking the meats, replacing drinks, and explaining the menus to non-Koreans like us. Also, upon our entrance, all the servers shouted something out. We thought it was just some of them calling out their orders, but later realized it was a Korean “Welcome” to everyone who walks in, after we heard it repeated as soon as other groups of people entered. Well! We will know that on our next visit. The Barbecue Grill on each table has an exhaust to pull the smoke out, and looks like a moat surrounded by a ring with an egg mixture on one half side, and corn and cheese on the other. By the time your meat cooks, you will have small servings of scrambled eggs and cheesy corn as extra side dishes. Also, there are complimentary bowls of bean paste soups, spiced soft Tofu, Kim chi, several spicy sauces, and salads. Our favorite was the scallion salad with the delicious red sauce mix. For the barbecue, we ordered the large beef and pork combos. They started us out with the un-marinated cuts first, and then we progressed to the bolder flavors of the delectable marinated versions. The rib-eye, short ribs, briskets, etc., were all tender, juicy, savory steakhouse quality, and mouth - wateringly good. The dipping sauce was the very taste-enhancing wasabi and onion-infused soy sauce. One of us in the group ordered the “Lunch Box”. This was a mixture of rice, sprouted mung beans, roasted seaweed, soy, egg and kimchi. The server showed her the ingredients, then closed the box, and shook it very vigorously to mix everything, and the resulting mixture was served right in the tin box. Very interesting! They celebrated a few birthdays, including one at our table, with the room darkened, and very animated “Gangnum Style” dance performed by the servers, accompanied by very loud music on the speakers. We left really liking the place in spite of the long irritating wait time. We will come early next time.

Awesome

I had never been to a Korean BBQ before and it was amazing. Nice food with an awesome experience. I would recommend everyone to try. The prices are not that cheap, but it does worth.

Korean fast food

By Srini M |

Went there looking for authentic Korean food (we have had quite a bit of experience over the years). Picked the place based on the number of stars in the review. What we found was a limited menu. Looking for real Korean fare, look else where

Authentic and really good

By Michael P |

In "Korea town"...basically a few blocks of New York City that have mostly Korean restaurants, we popped in here at about 5 PM for an early dinner. Within minutes after we were seated upstairs, the entire place filled up as they had just opened up the upstairs and obviously others knew about it. By the time we left at 6 o'clock there was a small line to get in the door. The food was really good and authentic, with the multiple side dishes/appetizers that many authentic Korean restaurants serve such as kimchi, tofu, sprouts, eggs, corn, and a few others. I ordered the dry aged ribeye steak, and my wife got the brisket soup which also had little neck clams in it. My steak was pretty good, but not the largest so after trimming the fatty edges, I was left with a reasonable piece, but it was a $40 steak and I was expecting a little bit better quality/size which is mostly why im giving it four stars. Granted you are getting a lot of sides/appetizers included in the price which rationalizes my expensive steak. The waitress actually cooked the steak for us at our table, unlike many other Korean barbecue restaurants where you are left to do everything yourself with some instructions. Brisket soup was huge and tasted great, and was under $15, I would definitely recommend that dish. Another reason for the four star review is I felt like many of the dishes had a similar taste, including the soup. I'm not Korean, so maybe this is a an expected flavor thing with BBQ and I am ignorant. Overall, great service, and a very pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

Phenomenal KBBQ

By ReeceLiang |

This place is the real deal. Came here with a Korean friend who knows his way around Koreatown and this is one of his personal favorites. We ordered the combo beef platter which came stock with a number of side dishes in traditional fashion. The first two meats were good, however the third and final course, the marinated short rib, was exceptional. The texture, consistency and flavor were just so well executed. I recommend having the Soju with beer and don't forget the side dishes that are a part of the hot plate - the cheesy corn and egg tofu both of which are very good. A note, they do not allow you to cook here, although the grill is in front of you, the servers will cook for you. Really a phenomenal experience with the wait being the only downside; I highly recommend this place for a social night out with friends or just for delicious, authentic Korean food

that was fun and deliciously different!

By peripateticjim |

OK -- I admit it. I'd never tried Korean BBQ before, though I'd looked through a few windows and saw the table-top grills. What a delicious adventure -- staff that welcomes you and treats you like family. (The branch of the family that need coaching on how to work through the twenty dishes that get presented during the meal.) We spent a lot of time smiling, a lot of time asking questions, and a whole lot of time eating - wonderful!

Best Kalbi (short ribs) in NYC!!!

By DKB |

My sister and brother in law reserved a private room at the restaurant. From what I understood, that room requires a prepaid full fledged menu option with all the good stuff. There was a "Bento Box" specialty rice dish that is shaken in front of you and served inside this metal tin box. The best part is all that short ribs cooked in front of you (they cook for you!). Also, have a Soju drink along with the plentiful meat.

A jumping place with really good and authentic BBQ!

By Jan W |

We have eaten outstanding Korean BBQ in Flushing and in Seoul, but previous places in Manhattan have fallen flat. So we were more than pleasantly surprised by the really good BBQ and service at Kang Ho Dong. Three of us went for dinner on a Sunday night. While the place was really jumping, our wait was under ten minutes. There was a longer wait line when we left at around 8 p.m. There was a good array of side dishes—excellent tofu, cucumbers, daikon, salads, kimchi, etc., that arrived almost immediately, as did a very attentive waiter. We ordered the pork—good, but I suspect the beef would have been better and more flavorful. It was cooked by our waiter—over a real fire, not sterno—who then cut it and pronounced it ready to eat. Meanwhile omelet and cheesy corn and some vegetables bubbled away happily around the depressed rim of the grill. A side of miso soup was hot and filled with clams and meat—very good! And the rice was appropriately prepared. Next time, I'd definitely like to try to beef tongue. Dong's just got added to our list of favorites for Manhattan.

Short Ribs were a little too fatty

By David M |

I was here about three years ago and it was great. This time the meat had way too much fat. It wasn't really very good at all. I was disappointed.

Another great experience.

By Excalibr |

We can not compare this restaurant as to it's "Korean BBQ" authenticity (as this is the only one we frequent), but we always have a great experience. I know first timers might be a little overwhelmed on how to order. I remember our first time. We always order the Beef Combo, with either the short ribs or the prime ribeye (both excellent) and the pork collar (never a disappointment). Some of the staff are more interacting than others, same as any establishment. Don't expect a show. Your server is there to grill your selections or possibly shake your "lunch box" rice. We have never left hungry. Factoring in the experience and the quality of food, it's worth the wait. Enjoy.

Noisy, crowded, tasty!

By 63Mark63 |

It really doesn't matter what you're cooking, it will be better with the best ingredients. Baekjeong uses only USDA Prime beef, which they thinly slice and cook over a burner in the middle of your table. Tasty You can't make a reservation unless there's at least 6 of you and there's always a lineup, on our visit today it seemed mostly young Koreans waiting to enjoy their culinary heritage. So, pick an off time or prepare to wait. But, it's worth it for thinly sliced marinated short ribs or rich brisket, all cooking in fronton you, with a selection of appetizers, soup and rice.
