I make sure I go to Bar Six every time I visit New York. It just transports me to another space and time,; I'm just a happy camper when I'm eating or drinking there. They have lovely ambient lighting, fabulous music, great selection of wine and excellent steak available on house. More over, it's just two blocks away from Union Square and a great way to start a Friday evening.I"ll keep going there as along as it exists :)

If you are looking for dinner after midnight, this is OK. They have a small menu for those who aren't there just for drinks.

We with a bunch of work colleagues and was majorly disappointed in all aspects. The place was incredibly loud, the service was very slow and the food was average at best. We were seated fairly quickly and then waited for over 30 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order. It took another 15 minutes to get our drinks and then another hour to get our food. At tone point someone had to go up and get someone so we could order more drinks.

Good at all times

good hot chocolate, nice atmosphere...good duck salad.

The food was delicious; the service so-so, but not bad - likely because it was very busy and they seemed shorthanded, but somehow, in the corner, it was not noisy. Loved it.

Bar Six is the type of place where it is easy to forget one is in the US. A french style bistro, for its food and atmosphere, including wall decoration, it offers a good and reliable fare, and a nice satisfying moment in between running around shopping or going to galleries and museums. The french fries are delicious.

Bar Six is fine for an inexpensive business lunch. We did the BLTs which were fine. It wasn’t noisy. Good service.

Walk through the doors and you’d think you’re in Paris. Taste the food and you know you’re not. Service is ok and prices are low but you can find better fare else where without flying to Paris.

Really flavorful French/Moroccan food and a good drinks menu. Nice ambiance and the waiters were very friendly. The chicken tangine and mussels were awesome.

Came here yesterday mid-afternoon with a party of 15, including teens and small children. 6th Avenue's Bar Six was more than willing to book and accommodate us in a gracious and friendly fashion. We had enjoyed a concert on the High Line and needed a place to visit with far flung family gathered for the occasion. The menu was brunch/lunch, so we enjoyed omelets, burgers, salads and more. Service was prompt and flexible (numerous substitutions to address food preferences), food was excellent. More importantly, we had plenty of space to hang out and catch up. Highly recommend!

We came here on our first night as it was round the corner to our hotel. Very cosy with friendly attentive staff. We both had the vegetable pasta dish very nice indeed. We then came back for a drink one night. Good bar scene and nice atmosphere.

Really loved the atmosphere of this place. Low key, lots of people but not too loud where you can't hear the person next to you. Great for date night or with a group. We had the hummus, basic but good. Wine was great at reasonable prices and the salmon was soooooo good. I look forward to trying new things here. Service was fine, nothing to scream about. But I like the idea of French/Moroccan cuisine.

Bar Six has been here for as long as I can remember. And for good reason! Great menu, reasonably priced. Merguez sausages are superb, as are the salads, burgers etc. Great for lunch. I've been probably 50 times.

I can’t say that Bar Six serves better meals than other Greenwich Village establishments, but I can this about it: Bar Six is a reliable place for grown-ups to meet each other and engage in adult activities, such as having a conversation. In fact, when you enter Bar Six, you will likely encounter other adults speaking in normal tones of voice instead of shouting at each other over loud music. They may be enjoying a few leisurely drinks accompanied by sustained discourse. It doesn’t hurt that Bar Six offers discounts for patrons with New School ID cards; the university, not known for its party scene, is right around the corner. If you’re a traveler and looking for a sedate spot to have a meal and/or a drink and write in your journal, you will likely not find yourself to be the sole individual on the premises looking at a piece of paper while wielding an analog writing implement. It’s a great spot for solitary dining. I also want to endorse Bar Six for travelers with hearing difficulties. I often dine with my elderly mother and many an otherwise excellent meal has been ruined because she could not hear me over the din of loud noise and awful acoustics. When weather permits, Bar Six offers sidewalk seating, although I frankly fail to see the benefits of consuming food meters away from one of Manhattan’s major thoroughfares. However, if you're visiting New York from elsewhere, maybe this is appealing. The interior of Bar Six, especially the back dining area, is like a warm, sophisticated cocoon from which one can temporarily forget that such things as Crocs, hot yoga and Twitter exist. In addition to atmosphere, the service is low-key and personable. Very professional staff.

I have been eating at Bar Six for 18 years. It is the quintessential French Bistro, as authentic as any that I have eaten at in Paris. This last visit was frustrating. We had a new, young waitress-in-training who made several mistakes. Unfortunately, Nick H was her trainer and he didn't want to be bothered with training her. He only publicly berated her for every mistake she made, which only heightened her anxiety level and increased the mistakes. Hopefully Nick is not planning on a career in education or public service since he is dreadfully inadequate at both. Nonetheless, the food is excellent and the ambiance sublime. Just be on guard for Nick as your server.

Convenient local hang out - stick wit burgers- not an upscale dining spot. Made the mistake of ordering pate- could have fed a family of four and though two of us shared it, we had little room left for our meal. Service was helpful and attentive but not overbearing.

I got a classic hamburger which was delicious, good food, great beer selection and nice plase. also good music.

I have been eating here for years, the food is consistently good and the service typically excellent, except for one night in November when I had Marsha as my server. She does not like to serve, and don't ask her for anything, like a fork. She is sullen and resentful and impolite. Run to another table if you get this waitress....toxic!

Bar Six is consistent in food preparation. Nothing fancy, but never a major disappointment. I eat there on average once a week, when I am in Manhattan from Brooklyn. It is a relaxing, friendly place and a great crossroads meeting place, where I often take guests or meet friends. It is an easy walk to Union Square; the Meat Packing District and all parts of Greenwich Village. I have come to know the serving staff, and am always welcomed. Every once in awhile there is a server who reminds one of the inattentive service in a bistro in Paris, but that is easily corrected. The Moroccan offerings are excellent, as is the steak frites. If you are looking for 'gourmet' with decorative servings instead of a meal to fuel-up a bistro is not the place to go. If you have a youngster with you (or you are feeling that way), the ice cream Sunday is the closest to those that were served in ice cream parlors in the past. Over the years, I have seen neighborhood folks or professors from New School, 'regulars' like myself. We may not have had introductions, but, we keep coming back, eating the food and giving a nod of the head.

This place has a great feel...an old speak-easy type of bar. It can get crowded, but a fun place to enjoy the company of friends. I have yet to try to the food here, but the bar service was great.

My wife and I needed to find a quick dinner on Sixth Ave. before an art event, and the menu looked interesting. My wife had the Chicken Tagine -- roast chicken on cous-cous ($22), and she said it was very good. I had two appetizers: Two crab cakes ($17), and the sweet and sour cauliflower ($9), both of which were fine. A glass of Sancerre ($14) helped. Service was efficient and fast. Perhaps if you are particular about the shade of your meat, you might try somewhere else, but if you're just looking for good food and drink with a Moroccan flair, this is a place worth trying.

Good location, although felt more European than NY. Just round the corner from The Jade Hotel on 6th Ave. Draft beers were c. $7 and they also do food in the restaurant towards the back. I didn't eat there but it seemed consistently popular.

Walked in off the street with no reservation. We were hoping for the best, and it did not disappoint. Eggs Benedict were delish. Service was friendly. A wonderful bistro feel.

My daughter lives 2 blocks away, and yet we had somehow managed to overlook this hidden gem on 6th Avenue at West 13th St in the West Village. I found it so beautiful in that authentically French bistro way --with gorgeous ochre wall color, red banquettes, bistro mirrors...the works. The service is warm, friendly and impeccable (the maitre d' and all staff), given how wildly busy they were on a Friday night. The menu is perfect, and everyone at the table had something marvelous, including the vegetarians in the group. The price is absolutely reasonable. This is now going to be my "local" in Manhattan. Kudos to all the team at Bar Six for a truly excellent experience!

Dropped by a few nights ago. Got lucky with a table and ordered a martini from the extremely friendly barman. He recommended Tito's Vodka. No product-placement ad here but my cocktail was awesome, bartender super sweet and hats off to him for the recommendation and great service. Absolutely loved the vibe of the place and would def go back!!!

Very tasty Moroccan-ish food and great cocktails, with a cool, but not annoying, sort-of-European vibe.

We had planned to eat at another restaurant, but when we arrived, it had closed, probably permanently. So we walked up the street and ducked into Bar Six, which the friends I was staying with had been to before. We did not have a reservation, of course, and the place was jumping, but we managed to snag a table. This is a loud restaurant with a very lively bar. The tables are to the rear, which makes things a bit quieter. Someone ordered zucchini chips which we munched with gusto while we had our cocktails. They were, for me, the hit of the meal, full of fresh, sweet zucchini flavor with a light, crispy crust. I then had the flat iron steak, which arrived cooked a perfect medium rare as I had ordered. This is a fun place with tasty food. I'd love to try their other specialities sometime.

I've always loved this place, great food great atmosphere and the service is wonderful. I only went for cocktails tonight but loved my drink, a superb manhattan.

I have walked by Bar Six many times but never ventured in. My wife finally had dinner there and now I am so sorry I haven't been there before! My entree of a steak with Bordelais sauce was wonderful, and my lobster avocado appetizer with romesco and pita was great. My wife was similarly impressed. Nice decor too with a kind of classic brasserie/bistro look. We will be back!

I felt like I was in Paris Marais. Great music and atmosphere, right in NY East Village. Friendly staff and good food. Try the steak. Mine was perfect.

I recently had a lovely dining experience here with a close friend. I hadn't been in years and will surely change that, as it was just as delicious as I remembered. This is such a lovely Village neighborhood gem that serves delicious French cuisine. It is quite a large restaurant with a large bar area in the front and dining towards the back. We were seated at a lovely corner, round table at the back of the restaurant which was prefect. The staff from the hosted to the waiters were all professional & attentive. Our drinks were perfect & the food was delicious! The atmosphere was also quite warm & welcoming. If you are looking for loads of charm with delicious French food, then this is the best bet & you will not be disappointed.

Nice atmosphere for brunch, not too loud at all. Portions are big, especially desert, where we had a pear crunch a la mode. Fresh-squeezed orange juice was good, but the grapefruit juice was not as good. Side mixed greens salad is good. They do a good Moroccan shashouka dish, tomato-based with eggs, and a very good farmers omelette, as well, among other things. The buttermilk biscuits are also excellent.

Pretty good deal on the prix fixe and the lemon tarte is good for not being in France.

This was round the corner from our hotel, it served great food and great beer. The atmosphere was great, we spoke to the manager who was very friendly and his staff who worked so hard.

Great food. Everything was well prepared and piping hot. We were extremely well taken care of by our server, Emily. Will be back! Thank you.

Delicious food, great ambiance and a lovely staff. Everything we ordered was wonderful! I often like to chat with the waitstaff at restaurants to find out what they like and our lovely waitress Annie was spot-on with her recommendations. She listened to our preferences and came up with excellent suggestions for each course. We will be back for sure.

We were in the area for a show at NYU Skirball Theater. The service was very good. I had reservations and they seated us right away. We had the Moroccan meatballs which were large for an appetizer at a great price. There were six meatballs. They were tangy and flavorful. We also had the chicken bisteeya and the chicken tangine. Both were delicious. They came out hot and the chicken was moist. The tangine was a little spicy but you don't notice it after a little while. The bisteeya had a very flakey crust. Nice Moroccan flavor for everything and great portions.

We were a group of eight with varying tastes and budgets. We were all very happy with our menu choices and pleased that there was something for everyone including vegetarians. Prices were typical for Manhattan.

The ambiance is all-out French. They even used this place for several scenes (purported to be in France) in “Julie and Julia”, as well as a romantic scene in the Sex & the City HBO series (“the first bite of a good burger… with Berger”). Somehow that is a plus, even though you didn’t know you cared. This place is my corner joint. It’s where you do brunch. It’s where you have that daytime lunch meeting or meet up with friends. Some of the menu is downright excellent. And they have all the current newspapers and magazines laying around, a good wine selection, low-key friendly but laid-back service (although it can be mixed), window seats and cozy sidewalk tables, and a French menu. It never fails that when I sit at a sidewalk table, everyone I ever knew happens to walk by. With their dog. Its that kind of place. Un-pretentious, but stuffy enough to keep out the riff raff. Expensive but worth it. A great place to meet friends after work or – better yet – a romantic drink with someone special. With the addition of the Jade Hotel around the corner, and D’Andrea’s Italian across the street from that, it is like a pocket of European elegance and good food in the Village. And in a neighborhood where bars and restaurants come and go on a daily basis, its nice to see that this place has survived a long time now. It’s the kind of place that completes the neighborhood.

Last night my friend and I went to Bar Six for dinner for the first time. I read a bunch of reviews before going and wasn't quite sure since this place received mixed opinions. I really liked it there. Cute place that is perfect for either a date night or a get-together with friends. Food was great. We got fried calamari for an appetizer. It came out great. If you are a fan of spicy sauce then you're gonna love the one that comes with these calamari! Almost burnt my face off but i didnt mind :) For an entree i got spicy maroccan shrimp with tomato cous cous. It was delicious! Not too crazy spicy. Cous cous was cooked to perfection! My friend got niçoise salad with tuna. She said it was great and tuna was cooked just as she desired. Overall, we had a great time and nice meal. I recommend going there and check this place out for yourself since many men many minds! :)

City goers that we are this was our 1st visit...amazing attention paid by Eric the bartender...lamb burger was spot on and steak w/peppercorn sauce to die for.....can I say more???? I`m in love!

A perfect neighborhood "go to." Comfortable atmosphere, decent food. I like to think of it as my place.

Supposed to close at 11pm but they were closed at 9.45pm. I lost 20min of my time for nothing. I guess people don't like their food or behaviour.

We were pleased with this unplanned visit to Bar Six. It was a Monday night and most restaurants that we selected were closed so we ended up at this restaurant and the food was above our expectations. As an appetizer we had their spicy meat balls and we both had their chicken tagine for our main course, and it was spectacular, probably one of the best chicken tagine I ever had. They didn’t have a lot of wine to choose for but they had at least five different wines by the glass and we had their Saint-Emilion and it was excellent, but as in most restaurants served at the wrong temperature. However, we were not impressed with our server attitude who seemed uninterested although the service was correct.

We are staying around the corner in the Jade Hotel and this is a regular spot for us for drinks. The prices are great, we are getting two beers / ciders for less than $15. They have live jazz on sundays from 8pm too

Just called in for a beer, the staff were friendly and the service was good. It seemed very popular with locals and there was much discussion about the recent elections. There is seating near the bar and tables at the rear if you wish to eat.

Once a French bistro, now a French-Moroccan..lovely vibe w/mainly French classic meals. Large portions, can share..great wine menu and prices are fair.

Slow service and crowds are not what I expected in a trending area of better quality for the price tag. Prices don’t match the quality nor flavor.

We stumbled across Bar 6 whilst wandering around Greenwich Village. Very European decor which was complimented by the North African style menu. The garlic roast chicken with mashed potatoes was perfect, as was the Moroccan chicken. I would definitely make a second visit.

A group of seven of us had dinner here tonight. Casual pub feel. Tight tables, but not terrible. Menu was limited. We tried two appetizers - crab cakes and calamari. The crab cakes were very good, but the calamari was disappointing - don't bother. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Portions were good for the most part. The shrimp dish was good, but would skimpy on the shrimp. Service was just okay. The bus people were a little intrusive. Overall the experience was good, but with so many options in the city, I wouldn't return.

I love bisteya -- or at least I used to before I became allergic to wheat. Bisteya is like a chicken pie wrapped in phyllo dough. So it's flaky and savory and hot and delicious. I used to go here all the time for bisteya, especially after the few other places I knew that served it closed down. If you're down for something new, and certainly if you're in the 'hood, def stop by and try it. Bisteya is amazing.

Everything here is near perfect. I love when a place makes me feel I am back somewhere else, sort of a mini-vacation. This place does it for me, over and over again.

A few days ago we made a reservation at Bar Six which is between 12th and 13th Street on 6th Avenue in New York City. We were meeting a dear friend who had come to the city from Montana and we wanted to treat her to a meal that she couldn't get in Missoula! While my wife and I had never eaten at Bar Six, we read the reviews on line and we decided to check it out and we were very impressed with the ambiance, the service and most importantly, the food! We started with their Crispy Zucchini Chips, which was a great appetizer. It was served with a spicy pepper dipping sauce that was a little tangy but not too peppery! I ordered the special of the house, their Chicken Tagine which was wonderful and served in a Tagine pot, hot and perfectly seasoned. My wife ordered the Grilled Salmon, which she loved and our friend had the Moroccan Spiced Shrimp, which she loved. And while we were pretty full we decided to try two of their desserts: the flour-less chocolate cake and their Creme Brûlée. Both were awesome. The restaurant was packed and I'm pretty sure you need a reservation for dinner, but this is a place worth waiting for a table, so make a reservation and enjoy!

Bar six is awesome! The food is really great. We go there quite often and everything on the menu is a classic that just can't get much better. You can usually get a nice table without reservations and the atmosphere is very relaxed, beautiful bar and really friendly people. Have the mussels provinciales, unbeatable!

In this little bar everything was really good. The service. The food. The atmosphere. Just go there! You will not be disappointed.

Aside from the service the food was good. The artichoke was excellent. The chicken tagine was on the spicy side but a good portion of the chicken. The coocoos was just so-so and not much of it. The Banana Bisteeya desert was excellent.

We have always enjoyed dinner at Bar Six. The Trio of Moroccan Dips and the Chicken Tagine and Skirt Steak entrees are excellent. It reminded us of good dinners at many French bistros where we could talk to each other without yelling. But the last time we were there, the noise level was loud and unpleasant. Everyone was shouting to be heard above the "music," which was a loud repetitive beat that drove us crazy. I asked the maitre d' (?) to turn it down and he said he would turn off the speaker above our heads, but it only became louder. We left without desserts and espressi, happy to be out on the comparatively quiet Sixth Avenue! We will hesitate before booking at Bar Six again, as there seems to be a change in the atmosphere that makes a very pleasant dinner very unpleasant.

Whoa, doggies!!!!! This is a small French bistro in the Village and from the moment we sat down to the moment we left, I saw why the natives I was with love this place. The food (needs to be called cuisine...) was truly worthy of France and the service was wonderful. We're we packed in almost like sardines? Yeah, pretty much, but this southerner didn't mind that and just enjoyed the surprised expressions on the faces of those nearby when my overly inclusive ways made some joke to them about proximity. I had very straight forward fare - soup and salad - and suffice it to say, little did I know it could be so satisfying and exhilarating all at the same time. I like good food. Who doesn't? This place invites you to get in the spirit and savour. As do I. Enjoy.

We just dropped in here without any plan other than we had only an hour before we had to hit the road to be somewhere and we had a terrific dinner. The service was attentive, the food was well prepared and delicious, and the price was very reasonable considering the romantic ambience and the overall high quality of the experience. I said to my girlfriend on the way out, I would definitely come back here.

A cozy restaurant with a French bistro vibe and Moroccan flavors. It's ideal for a pre- or post-movie bite or snack. Good wines, fast service, and serviceable fare. I have only tried the appetizers and can recommend the shrimp, the cold artichoke, and the sweet and spicy cauliflower.

With so many chefs coming out of culinary institutes these days, it's hard to go wrong and Bar 6 may be the best undiscovered restaurant yet. The food is a blend of Moroccan and French. I was a group of 5 people. We had a great time. Not a fancy place and a bit small, but comfortable and rustic casual. (I guess it looks like Morocco.) The entrance had a bar with the back being the dining area. There were many very interesting things here. Very interesting cocktails, appy's and entrees. Service was right on. Very attentive without being annoying, and served at a good pace. Not rushed and perfectly timed. Appy's were meatballs, which you must order, and 3 types of hummus. For entree I had the skate with double asparagus since I didn't want the potatoes. Excellent. I don't recall what the others had except for the salmon and the bisteeya (chicken pie), but everyone enjoyed their meals. A couple of desserts to top things off were creme brulee, we have had better, banana bisteeya was great.

Very good Negroni to start. Whipped Ricotta with chili is a delight. I had the Chicken Tagine and it was exceptional. Definitely going back.

We went for Lunch at Bar Six. I had the tuna sandwich made with tarragon and it was delicious. My husband had the curried chicken salad and loved it. Service was great.

My friend and I met at Bar Six for lunch and drinks. I found the restaurant to be very nicely appointed with nice furnishings and ambiance. The food was also very good as was the service. I would definitely go back!

Quiet night out! We found this place after checking in to our hotel late afternoon. It was the perfect place to unwind with a great drink menu and even better food selection. We ordered a few items and shared them. French onion soup, mushroom risotto, and their famous steak frites (recommended by our waitress). Everything was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. We will be back.

Watched the marathon and were just walking down the street and wandered into this place. Just fabulous!!

This is a great spot on 6th Avenue @ 13th Street, conveniently located near The Jade Hotel. During our recent stay in New York we ate here twice, both times on our way back to the hotel after the theatre. We also stopped in one late afternoon just to enjoy a few cold beers. The bar is located in front, the restaurant in the rear and there are a few outdoor tables where you can enjoy a beverage, a bite to eat or both. The place was full on each visit, the clientele being mostly locals with a few tourists scattered about. There is a great selection to be had from the menu and wine list. We found the wait staff pleasant and attentive; service very good; food (French/Moroccan) very tasty; beer nice and cold; and the atmosphere great. We’ll certainly not hesitate to stop in here again. Actually, we’re looking forward to it!

Love this french bistro style restaurant. Popped in by chance on our first night in NY and had the best steak and chips and most delicious red wine. A perfect way to start the holiday. A great atmosphere and very friendly staff.

We stopped in at around 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon and it was quiet...very quiet!! I can't speak to the food, as we had drinks only. This review is based on the service and my cocktail which was quite delicious and included vodka, muddled berries and thyme. It was an unusual combination. My boyfriend wasn't a fan, but I found it absolutely delicious!! Kudos to the creator of this unusual and yummy combination!!

perfect people watching if you get a sidewalk table - good service - mixed crowd - locals and tourists - we only ate snacks which were good

Perfect after theater option at the 14th Street edge of Greenwich village. Good food. Good service. Nice ambiance. For us a lucky find.

Suggested to a group from class at NYU to have midday treat at this tried and true restaurant. Each of the seven of us was pleased with food and service. The orders ranged from a variety of burgers, Hangar steak frite, Calamari, Service was fine, although the bartender was slowed down because of waiting duties near the bar.

Liked this bar and restaurant in 6th Ave. Good drinks and great steak. Popped in for sustenance everyday. Thanks Bar 6.

Gathered the family for brunch here. The food and service were great. They were very welcoming and attentive. We cleaned our plates including the shared plates with bacon and biscuits.

The look of a Paris bistro that feels like it's been here since Greenwich Village's glory days in the 20s.

In a very attractive Parisian setting we enjoyed a very nice lunch here with friends during our latest visit to New York (April, 2015). I had a perfect Croque Madame sandwich and my husband enjoyed an excellent Nicoise Salad and the wines (by the glass in this case) were good and reasonably priced. It was a very convivial experience.

A nice bar with outside seating as well. The service was very good and they offer food as well which was nice. A good selection of beers and spirits available and all in a nice setting. Worth visiting for a few drinks and a bite to eat. The truffle fries are great!

I can't believe I never wrote them up before. I have been going there for years for drinks in the afternoon and always having my favorite fried calamari. Theirs happens to be delicious. I met my son there after work one evening. I was happy to get a table as they have a lively crowd at night. The best chili basil margarita along with my favorite fried calamari. I wans't overly hungry but my son wanted to take some food home so we ordered two entrees the hanger steak with fries, very good. But outstanding was the Bisteeya, a Morrocan chicken pie that we ate every bit of! Our waiter was wonderful...friendly and professional...This is the place. It can get loud. Has a great bar. If you are in the Village this is not to be missed!

I was in the area - about 30 minutes early for a dinner-date somewhere else, so I decided to grab a drink at the bar in Bar 6. Great bartender, nice-looking bar and restaurant. I was there in the early evening on a Saturday so there was no crowd. I was able to drink my drinks (Old Fashioned and Bourbon Sidecar) and chit-chat with Steven behind the bar. It was perfect - a great way to spend a few minutes before heading elsewhere. The next time I'm in town - Bar Six will be my destination and not simply a waiting-area.

We visited Bar Six for the first time this past weekend. Rainy cold night in May- what's up? The ambience, food and service was all excellent. Interesting and tasty drinks to start. The four of us split 3 outstanding appetizers - fried zucchini chips, spicy cauliflower and kale salad. Each dish was great of its kind. Even our very picky eater enjoyed all 3 dishes. Much more boring assortment for our main dishes. 3 orders of the chicken tagine and one of the skate. Nothing but delicious food. Chicken portions are large and happily went home with us. Deserts- just as good as the rest of the meal. The price was more than fair. We'll be back!

We were able to get a table on Valentine's Day. Service and food were great. I felt as if I was back in Aix en Provence. We all loved it!!!

What a happy surprise in this neighborhood which is not particularly famous for its cuisine. My wife and I had the crab cake, the Moroccan dumplings and the skate. Everything is perfectly cooked, Service is fast and attentive. A little noisy for our European habits but as is often the case in New York.

We went to Bar Six before going to an event at the New School (which is right around the corner). It's a great neighbourhood place, really comfortable and welcoming. It may get really busy at times, but it's still a nice place to hang out. Happy hour is good with good prices on drinks and lots of people just hanging out on a warm evening. Food is solid as well.

Bar Six is a French-type bistro with the usual cozy bistro atmo. The service was overall pleasant. The food was all-right but nothing to rave about, in my opinion. Ordered a green salad, which came with small but fully loaded goat cheese toasts, Calamari, which were good enough but served with cheese sauce,? and also a side order of cous-cous, which was fairly large for a side dish but tasted like something that came out of a cheap package. I would probably go elsewhere in the vicinity for food.

Looking for a good place to eat? At Bar Six they seem to have a chef who know what he's doing: serving good food! Friendly staff, good service.

It is on 6th Ave near 12th St. in the Village and just a few doors down is 16 Handles for self-serve fro yo dessert. Next door is Murray's Bagels-so a real foodie block. Let me say the staff was extremely kind to an older relative I had with me--I mean her walker took up valuable floor space. So points for that. Menu was not expensive and vaguely french. I had an omelet and they were kind enough to make it with egg whites and to offer to substitute salad for fries. My flavors of choice were herbs and roaste tomatoes and both were lovely. I would go again. Does not havew modern hip vibe, noise or crowd at least at lunch,. You could picture people smoking here--that vibe-which of course is not permitted in NY.

I went here to grab after dinner cocktails and had one of the best variations of a traditional Manhattan! I was very happy we stopped here.

Had a late lunch with a friend recently and this was the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely lunch with a friend I hadn't seen for a long time. We both had the soup and sandwich lunch specials, which were excellent and a good value. Nice cozy, quiet atmosphere, not rushed at all, so we were able to take our time to talk over a good meal. Definitely recommend.

This restaurant used to be good, for the last 3 times I went it kept going down, the last one the last straw, i ordered mussel provencal for lunch, they came cold in my plate, chewy, seems they were cooked two days ago, the sauce was awful as well, couldn't finish it. By far the worst dish I had in a while. Wouldn't recommend this place anymore.

I found this place just walking by and loved it so much that I usually go there every trip to New York, sometimes multiple times. I sit outside at one of the small tables and watch people go by -- very interesting. I usually go in the spring or summer when it's pleasant enough to sit outside. The food is really, really good and they have good options for vegetarians. They even have a flour-less chocolate cake for the gluten-free. The service is always attentive.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is the first thing that hits you as you walk in the door; it is lively and creates the right ambience. Being in New York and not too far from Times Square you expect crowds, but despite being busy, you are not rushed nor do you feel as though you have no space to relax / eat. The menu is varied offering something for almost all palettes; a good selection of beers and wines ensure you will find a suitable drink to accompany your meal. The waitress was friendly, attentive and provided a splendid level of service.

Located on 6th and 12th, this restaurant is a gem. It claims to serve French and Moroccan food but along with that boast, our group of five had club sandwich, hummus, gluten free item, croque monsieur and madame. Can't wait to return.

I'd walked by Bar Six hundreds of times, glancing enviously at people sitting outside sipping wine with their friends and dogs. When I finally visited, with friends, it was a rainy day and I still don't have a dog, so we sat inside. The ambiance is quite lovely, and I did feel like I was in some version of Paris. We sat in a corner booth and ordered small bites and drinks, none of which were memorable. However, this is definitely a place where an elegant ambiance makes up for just-ok food. I'll certainly visit again, but only when I can be one of the people sitting outside with their dog.

We had an early dinner before a jazz show. The menu is classic French bistro: French onion soup, croque monsieur, salads. A nice selection of wines. It's the kind of restaurant you would expect to see in any European city. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that we returned the next day for brunch.

Bar SIx has been around for what seems like forever. It has a sincere neighborhood feel - of the Village of yesteryear. There are no glamazons or hipsters in Bar Six just real people who live and work in the neighborhood. In summer there are a few sidewalk tables which can be fun even if 6th Ave is kind of a zoo. I always meet one friend here - every couple of months. She lives across the street and I live down a block so it is convenient and comfortable. Usually we have drinks but today we had lunch (and drinks). The service was great - friendly, attentive and not hovering. The food was good. I had arugula salad with shaved parmesan and grilled shrimp ($15, I think) and she had a Croque Monsieur. We had some white wine - Bergerac - whicb was pleasant. With a 20% tip, the bill came to $68. When left, the restaurant was crowded with real people enjoying good food.

Great atmosphere and service. Simple and good food. Just checked into hotel around corner and came here. It reminded us that NYC can be expensive even on the simple side. Would come here again though.

Delicious and well-priced sandwiches and other lunch fare in pleasant, quiet setting on Avenue. Good cocktails too.

High quality food, even still it's pricey due to the area. If you're passing by stop in for sure. My friends gave the Bloody Mary two thumbs up. We were there for brunch so they ordered pancakes and French toast, which they ate rather quickly. I had the shrimp Cesar salad and it was wonderful. The atmosphere is nice but we chose to sit outside, despite the heavy foot traffic. Overall, great place with wonderful service.

I absolutely loved this place. I was looking for a long time for a quiet place to spend a quiet evening around Chelsea and a small table near the window at bar six was sxactly what i wanted. Coupled with a few nice beers and cocktails it was a great experience for me! Definktely recommend to anyone who wanta to axtually hear people they are talking to or just your own thoughts while still in a bar.

The food was presented beautifully and the menu is interesting. This is a good place for a pre-theatre dinner with friends.

I often invest time trying to decide on a good restaurant and then walking down Avenue of the Americas one day I stumble upon this appealing spot that turns out to be the best place ever! With many Greek food offerings and a well stocked bar (along with a charming bartender) I have found my new nirvana restaurant. It's busy but calming, priced well and has a appealing and varied take on Greek food! Our choices were the watermelon/feta salad tossed in a light vinagarette - followed by filet kabobs served with feta/cotija seasoned steak fries! The wine list offered great choices....ours a delightful blend from Santorini. servings are generous and splittable. Liked it so much went back the next evening to try other choices. I'm dreaming of Bar Six....right now!

Walking along 6th Ave this place had an interesting appearance and was inviting so we decided to pop in for dinner! So glad we did. First our waiter was the greatest he offered wonderful explanations of the entrées suggesting some and indicating others were good but not to be pursued. He helped us select the steamed artichoke as our shared appetizer.... it was so darn good with just the right amount of butter and seasonings to not make it too overwhelming the artichoke was large and generous and meaty. There were two of us for dinner one of us chose the chicken Tangien and the other the spicy Moroccan shrimp. The tangerine came in a deep dish with very mildly spicy chicken surrounded by an array of wonderful roasted vegetables in a delicious sauce. The Moroccan shrimp were served with a couscous that ops up the “spicy and generous shrimp nicely. We finished with probably the best piece of flourless chocolate cake I’ve ever had most to chocolate cakes that are flourless come out as very fudgy, not this one it was a light airy and the chocolate left the most wonderful taste in your mouth. I keep thinking about this place even though I am now home from my long weekend in Manhattan. So many wonderful entrées on the menu I can’t wait to return and try another.

Such a nice, friendly place . You may think that you are in Paris having your stake and frites . The sandwiches are great , the food is very tasty . You will enjoy it !

This is a great neighborhood place with a French/North African menu that is reasonably priced. It's comfortable and charming.

We very much wanted to like this place. It offers Morrocan/North African cuisine and, indeed, its B'Stilla was quite decent. It's not easy to find good North African food in New York, so we were hopeful. However, our appetizers were uninspired, the extremely modest piece grilled salmon was just OK and the wines were horribly overpriced. Add to this, the sonic roar within this restaurant. At least they are honest -- it is a bar. So it will be noisy and bustling. They claim to specialize in tagines, so if you have a hankering of a good tagine, you may want to try Bar Six. We didn't order the tagine because it came with couscous. But may be worth a try if you are searching for a tagine dish.

Tagine chicken was ok, no good or bad surprises, quite average...

Took our 94 yo aunt for a light dinner this evening. We were warmly greeted. For apps we had the cold artichoke (ask to have it steamed), super onion soup and crab cakes. All were excellent. For mains we shared a salad and mussels. The wine based broth was yummy and had a slight kick. Great for "dunking" their wonderful bread into! Service was very attentive. Our auntie is a regular and you can't go wrong here.

Great place and ambience, the patio in the back is nice, and the staff was very friendly, but i did not find the food experience as fullfilling as i'd like.

I stopped here to have a snack and sip wine while the world walked by. This little place on the avenue of americas is pretty. There are four round copper tables for two on the sidewalk.. Inside, , there are several tables spaced well and pretty and a nice size bar with several stools. I opted to sit outside and ordered a cold artichoke served with aioli.i had two glasses of wine. The menu is interesting having healthy grains and vegetables. Salads quinoa and kale were featured.

Not a bad place for a work type of lunch. The food is decent, service good. I had the veggie cous cous and cappucino both of which were adequate. The big advantage here is that it is spacious and so you may not need to wait too long. But I went for an early stage and it may fill up quickly. I would like to go back and try an omelette sometimes.

We're from Italy and decided to head for the Village for our Sunday brunch. We came across this nice little place and must say we really enjoyed eating there. Food is good, service friendly and fairly priced. I even got an extra Bloody Mary on the house because the waitress thought we had been waiting too long for our meals but that was not the case, but we really appreciated this.

Expensive and unconforttable dining area. The captain rejected my objection to a $30 meat plate that was ordered medium rare trying to convince me that medium rare is not necessary red. The first bottle of wine opened tasted like vinegar. Very expensive for very mediocre food. On a Friday night it was half empty, something very unusual for a trendy Manhattan area. Never again.

We thought te were going to an French restaurant turned out to be more Moroccan . The food was okay although they missed our appetizer and attempted to serve the main course. Food was good.

We liked everything here from the service to the cocktails to the food. The salmon eggs Benedict is awesome!

If you enjoy a really lively eatout then this place is fun - nice food okay wine and decent service and a vibrant vibe makes you feel a bit back in Europe but the noise is solely NYC wice

Great little local bar which serves up great cocktails and a great selection of beers. Tasty finger foods and friendly staff.

This small restaurant has a quietly European character to it, with good food and even good service to to top it all! Both the Smoked Salmon & egg salad and the Omelette with all the extras were tasty and well presented. Service was also quite pleasant Definitely a place to come and have a relaxed meal!
Classic French Bistro in NYC
I think this place rocks. Classic French food in NYC. Great cocktail bar and manages to combine a very good restaurant with a fun bar/pub and a small outside seating area. Always great people watching. No celebs but an interesting West Village crowd. Although I am useless at Celeb spotting. Definitely worth dropping in.
