Books Galore

By Chris1950822 |

Just happened upon this store when out for a walk and popped in for a few minutes which stretched out far beyond that! It has a great selection of books, I made a couple of purchases but could have made more if it wasn't for the fact that I had limited room in my suitcase.

Excellent selection of food

By le5691 |

The food and the selection is astonishingly good and reasonable priced. It is wonderful to be able to visit this place with children. They have the largest children's section I have ever seen and the food selection adds to the enjoyment of the visit.

Oasis of Knowledge

I always like to visit this place. I found a lot of nice books and magazines about wine. The staff is helpful and polite

Great Selection

By GlobalGourmet101 |

We brownsed the books but were really here to see what movies/music they have. Excellent selection of Broadway soundtracks as well as hard to find older movies and television shows.Helpful staff.

Good titles; good location; books are my thing!

The Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave is organized in an easy manner to find the basics quickly. They have an info desk directly straight back after you enter the store, but other than that I did not see any book-service people wandering the store to be of assistance. I guess I’ve grown accustomed to that at our local independent bookstore. Be that as it may, when I asked for the Robert Kaplan book that was just reviewed in the NYT Book Review, they searched the table where I had searched and then searched the computer and determined that an entire box must still be in the basement storage area. Thank goodness they were willing to go ferret out the case of books and bring me one as well as restock the table. I find that NYC doesn’t seem to have the plethora of Bookstores it once had (newsflash!) and the independent stores I came across during our visit here were all old/out of print sorts, not the independent bookstores I am familiar with that give Barnes and Noble a run for their money. The bottom line is... I found the new Robert Kaplan book I was seeking for the flight home to CA tomorrow. I’d rather put the $$ in the pocked of an i dependent bookseller, though!!

Great place to relax

By disha_11 |

A superb selection of books. large collection of DVD's as well. A staff member is always available to help you and makes you feel very welcome. Probably would have spent a whole day here if I had the time. Central location ( 5th avenue). Cafe serves good coffee and tasty small meals. plenty of tables to sit and chill out.

A Mecca for a Book Lover

By Celal S |

I spent a half day in the bookstore. I reviewed many of books etc. when I was sitting in the café. This was a great day for me and bought many of newly published books.

Great Place To Read & Sip Coffee!

By kamilouise13 |

My husband and I stopped here while shopping at the mall. He got a coffee and I got a pastry. We both loved our items. Workers were nice and helpful.

Comprehensive bookstore

By Mostafa A |

I have been going to this great store since a long time and never failed to find my desired books it is also a place when book lovers can spend long time reviewing all literature Also I love their coffee and snacks

OK

By walkerhb |

Not a big store but a fair range of books and such. The cafe was, as usual, Starbucks so we didn't bother to stay as we prefer a more independent type.

HANDICAPPED UNFRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE

By ilovebargains |

This is the most handicapped inaccessible 3-story store. There are escalators to top or bottom floors, elevator option. But there’s no place to sit to browse or to rest. Cafe has tables, chairs and bar stools- BIG signs all over ‘sitting for paying customers’ and only for 30 mins. We left without buying anything.

Huge selection

By tammyBaltimore_Md |

This Barnes & Noble in a great location which makes it extremely busy, 3 floors of books & music. Love when they have the occasional celebrity book signings.

A fascinating event with Julian Lennon

By RonWamberal |

Totally different to The Strand nearby, love them both but probably appeal to different readers. There are not many book stores left around the world but this is still one of my favourites - something for everybody whether it be "old fashioned" book lovers or music lovers - 3 levels of treasures. One of the appeals is the series of events and book signings, always fascinating guests although I'm not always in town when they have these nights. Went to a Julian Lennon book launch and it was absolutely amazing - other than being the son of John, didn't know much about him but this was an illuminating night.

Good range, well stocked and maintained store

By craigmandeville |

Great store, just across the street from Rockerfeller centre. Three floors with friendly staff. Great children’s section downstairs.

Wonderful Bookstore

By Neta_Avivi |

I love this Barnes & Nobles store (but I love most Barnes & Nobles stores...). It is such a great feeling browsing among the many books in every genre and searching for new titles. This store is located on 5th Avenue so it is very convenient to get there. Additionally, there is a Starbucks Coffee on the top floor - where you can take a break, relax and use the free wi-fi.

Bad bad BAD

By Jordan K |

Mean workers…and since when did B&N not allow for people to use the restroom? Horrible experience and bad, greedy people.

Amazing store!!!

By Eric R |

You have to be crazy if you don't love this store! For those who are book lovers this will be paradise! I totally love it! Has a real big selection of authors and works! Besides lots of toys and has a Starbucks on the second floor so you can go and read your favorite book with a coffee, perfect moment!

grab a quick coffee- NO

By beachlovers5357 |

Every time I have been to this cafe I am either on line for an inordinate amount of time, or standing there alone for so long with no hint of acknowledgment from the staff that I wind up walking away. They have most of the options available at all Starbucks, but are actually a Barnes & Noble store so one cannot use the Starbucks loyalty card, and the beverages lack something of the care evident in an actual Starbucks. On the up side, one can use the B&N loyalty card for a 10% discount.

Can’t ask for a better dtore

By AndyE224 |

Great variety of books/toys/CDs and more!! Can’t ask for somewhere better to find everything I was looking for. Must visit while in NYC.

Book World and much more....

By Marcela |

I do not usually be objective when it comes to bookstores, I love reading and even more ... when we find everything we look for without expecting it. Infinity of sections & offers, super cozy place with highly trained staff, beautiful book accessories at a good price to buy and a cafeteria ... what else can we ask for a perfect visit? There is a special section for kids and games can also be purchased. Undoubtedly, they found the charm of selling books: that NEVER is out of fashion

A Wonderful Bookstore

By Neta_Avivi |

I love coming to the bookstore, browsing the new titles, looking for books written by specific authors and reading and reading. This is a 3-story store, with a Starbucks cafe on the 2nd floor. What a great place!

Great Store

By Neta_Avivi |

A wonderful place filled with books. Great space to browse through the different titles, sit, relax and read. The coffee shop is OK - pretty standard but a good option to take a short break.

Not just books

By Debbie T |

As a committed bookworm I can't go past a bookshop without going in. This one though is far more than just books. Filled with DVDs, CDs, toys, souvenirs and more, it is a browsing and shopping delight.

Great bookstore and cafe

By jbmcv1 |

Loved before by in this bookstore on a recent visit to New York. The cafe is upstairs and is a great place to meet up or have a read if alone.

I love this 3 storeys bookstore. Lots of wonderful books, CDs, DVDs. Staffs are wonderfully helpful.

Great Store, just one employee missed customer relations training day!

By Visitor-to-Disney |

My family and I have regularly visited this Barnes and Noble Store on our visits to New York and have very much enjoyed our time here. My husband is an avid fan of the vinyl records tucked away on the second floor, while my daughter enjoys scouring the Barnes & Noble exclusive editions of hardback classics just beyond the records. The staff are incredibly helpful and are willing to provide any advice on books when asked. In particular, my daughter was unsure which edition of the Constitution of the United States to purchase due to some versions being expanded in different editions and the team member she spoke to was very patient and knowledgeable in helping her find the version which would be most appropriate to her PhD studies. On our last day of the trip, my daughter decided to return to the store to purchase the other version of the Constitution she had forwent for the version she already had so we made a quick visit in to purchase this. When my daughter went to pay in the vinyl records section of the store due to it being much quieter, the staff member _____ was incredibly unwelcome and dismissive. My daughter politely asked if she could pay at this register and the book was promptly snatched off of her with no words from ____. My daughter then handed her $30 to which this was also abruptly taken and then a “You got 5 cents? Because I have no change.” Was rudely uttered. I luckily had some in my wallet and was able to provide this, before the book was stuffed in the bag and handed back. I am absolutely outraged by this service and so shocked in comparison to the lovely members you have working in your store. I believe that this employee could very much do with some training in customer service as she does not fit the message that your company promotes. Very disappointed.

Books, music and relaxed atmosphere.

By 913arturo |

They have a great array of offers in this bookshop. Fiction, non fiction, music and a nice cafe where you can have a quiet look inside a book while having coffee and watching people go by on 5th Ave. NY. Just great in this day and age where paper books are not the most coveted ítems in town.

This is for the one near Columbia University

By jjr21 |

Friendly and helpful staff. Good chocolate chip cookies. Did not have Dr. Pepper which was a bummer.

Books and coffee

By Stef |

What more could you want? Great selection of books and excellent customer service It was a great shopping experience overall. Bonus points for having a Starbucks in the store.

Certainly not a Celebrity

By srob2727 |

Barnes and Noble Bookstore just made our day, when I enquired about Certainly not a Celebrity they went out of their way, to find the book for me,their empathy and understanding was marvellous.

Good bookstore

By Autumn M |

This is a great location for a bookstore. They have a large selection of books and magazines. There are many places to sit and relax. Starbucks is a bonus.

Great Place to have Food for Thought & Food for the Body...

By JKKDelhi |

The collection of books at the store is impressive. Not only books, one can get a lot more related stuff. For those who swear by reading physical books and not the e-readers this is a great place. There are many with some special deals so depending on your choice. Lastly after browsing and purchasing you can give your aching legs a break by going to the Starbucks Cafe on the 2nd Floor and have some good quick bites with cold & hot beverages.

Marks out of 10 for rudeness - 11

By LittleMissPlucky |

No staff serving on cash points. When I asked for help was told to ‘Just go downstairs’, very dismissively. Downstairs I waited 20 minutes to finally be served. So many staff standing around yet none doing anything useful. Prices are also astronomical. And apparently Barnes and Noble are worried about Amazon nipping at their heels. They should be. This was not a nice experience.

get sustenance while being surrounded by culture

By globtrotteuse |

Rather interesting than putting a café in a bookstore. this allows you to sustain yourself while being surrounded by culture.

Books galore

By Arthur S |

Lovely bookstore. Great service and helpful staff. They had reorganised some displays for Christmas but I was quickly directed to the right section for the book that I wanted to buy. There is a Starbucks here too if you need a coffee or restroom.

Three levels of books galore!

By tammyBaltimore_Md |

Store offers dvd's & vinyl on top floor, HUGE selection of books, staff always around to help where they can, nice place for coffee and sweet treat while reading or shopping.

Vacation book hunt while in New York

By Griselda B |

Really bad circulation concept in the store. You start to ride those electric stairs up and down until you don't know what you were looking for. You are always in the wrong area. It's not easy to find the sections and when you finally find the book you wanted (employees not willing to help), you have to go down to pay for it so you can use the restroom with the code that appears in the receipt. The restrooms are in bad shape. There are no chairs to sit onto to browse your pre-selected books and if you want to sit at the cafe you have to pay for a beverage even if you don't want to have one. You don't feel welcomed at any time.

Needed somewhere to chill out.....

By Hodgee234 |

We both love anything to do with books and so when we came across this store on our New York walk about we made a beeline for the front door! The place has a great atmosphere and brilliant selection. The added value is the cafe on the top floor with comfortable seating and a great range of food and drinks. Located in the cafe area are a huge selection of bits and bobs and by that I mean great notebooks etc. This has to be a go to place right on 5th Avenue if you just want to get some quiet time with a great cup of coffee and a read of a book!

We always like visiting a good bookstore

By gmejk |

We found some good after Christmas sales at this Barnes and Nobles. Enjoyed visiting a Barnes and Nobles that we do not regularly visit. A big Harry Potter section, which my daughter enjoyed very much.

Starbucks

By angela0809 |

The coffee inside the bookstore is part of the Starbucks chain. Opportunity for a pleasant break in the visit to the library. Not very easy to find a place.

Barnes & Noble - A World of Words

By Conny Wylie |

Barnes a& Noble (B&N) is my very favourite book retailer, but even in NYC they are getting harder and harder to find. B&N has been closing stores since 2014 as it has/is facing declining sales. In spite of that , it is still the strongest library around, and when you factor in it's e-presence, it warehouses more than 1M titles for consumer consumption. This store is finely architected with an umbilical cord to Starbucks to provide readers with some smooth engineered coffee. I am old school, I don't have a cell phone and at school I was honed on reading, writing and arithmetic. Every so often I dedicate a whole day at B&N to see what new books are in store since my last visit. Sometimes I even camp outside the front of the store waiting for it to open and I take a lunch......it's a long day. My strategy for my B&N visitation is to walk the stacks and select books based on requirements, a wim or just randomly. Sometimes I let colour of jacket, size, unusual title, humorous subject and other oddities be my selection criteria. Following this approach I accumulate a 1/2 dozen or so books and moozy on over to a Starbucks table and scan these books for some tidbits of knowledge that tickles my fancy and make notes.....and repeat this process numerous times throughout the day. In the midst of all these, I visit the magazine racks and generally do the same thing there. At the end of the day all that remains is 3 books which I consider with contribute most to my mindset and I purchase them, enjoying the discounts of my B&N card. This is my B&N routine. If I might,,,let me take you through 1 cycle of my routine for my latest visitation at this store: Book 1. Tidying Up - Marie Kondi / Have to clean my garage or my wife will divorce me / Don't like her rule about books - can't have more than 30. Book 2. How to be Interesting - Jessica Hagy / Book nudges you to reduce your life to a series of graphs and diagrams bettering your life in the process / I am a triangle. Book 3. Find Your Sweet Spot - Karen Elizaga / Help to find the life of your dreams and then go after it. / Read Book 3 before Book 2. Book 4. How to Work With An Architect - Morosco / Building a house and I want to pretend that I'm Frank Lloyd Wright. Book 5. It's Great To Suck At Something - Karen Rinaldi / I suck at golf and I don't want to feel guilty. Book 6. I Have Bees In My Brain - Trish Hammond / I have started reading children's books since Jeopardy whiz James Holzhauer revealed that's what he does to baste his knowledge base. / This book is about how children deal with out-of-control feelings. I really fancy B&N corporate good intentions initiative titled: "Put Down The Phone , Pick Up A Book" as an attempt to coach the younger folk to break with the electronic habit by reading and improving their brain chemistry. I personally like nothing better than cozying up with a book. As a reader I value the experience of a great bookstore like Barnes & Noble....A World Of Words.

sales persons have no idea what they are selling

By Dorit F |

the store is large, with a nice coffee shop and a very large variety of books. but the sellers have no knowledge in books or in how their own books are laid out. they aren't familiar with pretty basic writers and don't even know what catagories are in the shop. it׳s actually sad and i would be greatful for a recomended book shop in the area.

A wonderful store

By RonWamberal |

Book stores might be dying the world over but this is still one of my favourites - something for everybody whether it be "old fashioned" book lovers or music loovers - 3 levels of treasures.

Coffee

By Autumn M |

Great place to grab a coffee and walk around Barnes and noble exploring. They have decent selection of baked goods and water as well.

This is not a Starbucks - service lacking

By Mark S |

Found the person who took my order to be quite rude and not helpful. Points of note: 1) this is not a Starbucks - nothing related to Starbucks is not taken here even though they have Starbucks signs all over the place. 2) up-sell - everything is an up-sell - bigger drinks, syrup, extras, etc. 3) kept trying to push a barnes and Noble membership. I asked as to why all the Starbucks signed but no support for Starbucks customers (e.g. pay with Starbucks app) and the guy just pointed me to a sign - which happened to be a small sign saying they don’t take Starbucks cards. Funny, as everywhere else in the cafe they make it look like a Starbucks - trading in on the Starbucks brand and delivering sub-par service. Save your money - there are much better and friendlier places.

Bookstore cafe

By Lolly’s Look |

The cafe in Barnes and noble is a convenient little spot to grab a cup of coffee or tea with a snack while shopping and enjoying the bookstore.

Tasty food and nice service

Relaxed, friendly atmosphere and good food. Got my vote! Tip: Try the GODIVA chocolate cake - better than you would get in Belgium.

Is everone is NYC this nice?

By Anna M |

I loved it here! The staff was so friendly and that's the biggest part of what I remember, which, let's face it, is the best part of any traveling experience.

Amazing book shop!

By robert kenneth M |

We wondered into Barnes and Noble today looking for a Japanese Manga, We couldn't find the book anywhere else so I asked at the counter where the manga section was, so I stumbled across the manga section it was huge I found the danganronpa book it was a great price I definitely recommend stopping by for your book needs!

Wait until COVID is over

By RJV |

They only allow 30 minutes seating time but neglect to tell you that when you make a purchase. In the past, this was a place where people would buy coffee and read or work, possibly chat with friends. Only being able to sit 30 minutes makes it somewhat pointless in winter. At least they should warn people before they blow their money on coffee and snacks.
