Great Manhattan Steakhouse

By benskie |

Went for lunch. They do have a fixed price lunch menu and numerous other items suitable for lunch, but I went with my usual--steak, béarnaise and salad. Prefer the porterhouse, but my wife wasn't that hungry and had the French onion soup and lobster roll and enjoyed both. Well located. Great friendly service. Much better idea than trekking to Peter Luger's---closer, cleaner and friendlier.

Lots of good things

By @rturo @ lori@ |

Excellent place to eat. Very nice ambiance, excellent meat dishes ( plate for 2 enough for 3 ), very good service, large variety of wine ..... Need a reservation, most of the time very full but worth it .

Good, but not outstanding.

By Cloud_Matt |

This is a top quality steak restaurant. That said there are many others in New York, and this place just doesn’t differentiate itself. So, good is good, service is good, in fact it’s all good, but it is very expensive, so I wanted it to be outstanding...

Not worth the hype, a let down.

By Frankie M |

Not as expected. Booked a table for Christmas Day with good expectations our table was for 8pm… turned up and restaurant was overcrowded (clearly overbooked) and no room for waiting at the bar! we were then seated at 9pm. The only excuse for this was “we’re busy” which we could see but no apologies at all just rude front of house. Once seated our waiter was clearly not interested in us, not once did he crack a smile! Paying attention to large groups but not myself and partner. I would go as far as saying paying attention to people spending more money… think of that as you wish. Food was basic and if I’m honestly a let down for what we thought it would be like. If I was to pin point one thing I’d say the meal lacked flavour. I just wouldn’t recommend to anyone visiting New York. I truly believe they over book for the sake of money.

Fantastic Anniversary Dinner

By Ellen C |

My husband and I ate at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime on Friday, September 27, 2019. We enjoyed a drink at their beautiful bar and were then seated to a very nice table off to the side to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. This restaurant is beautiful and everyone is smiling and welcoming, which is so nice to see. This is truly a high-end restaurant. Al was our server and he was so attentive (but not intrusive). He was very knowledgeable of the menu and was a warm, kind and funny person. Sean, the manager, checked in on us to be sure we were enjoying everything. For our dinners we had the Grilled Calamari and Grilled Shrimp, Entrees of Chilean Sea Bass and Bone-In Rib Eye, two different potatoes and mushrooms. The food was truly amazing. We enjoyed a bottle of red wine and they gave us both a complimentary glass of champagne to help us celebrate. We never felt rushed here, from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, it was just the perfect, perfect night. Everyone should experience this restaurant at least once in their lifetime. Thank you Al, our server and Sean, the manager for making us feel so welcome and for such a truly fabulous dinner. Benjamin Prime is very lucky to have you both. Hope to return again one day. Good lunch option

By Matvl |

Popped in for a Prix Fixe lunch which is pretty good value at 3 courses for $40. Service from the host was great; though very frantic and a quite rushed from other staff. Steaks were very good; sides were fine. Bit odd that a steak house had run out of Dijon mustard however and took some time to be told this. Unlikely to be back and certainly not particularly memorable.

The filet was good, but not

By jaefarrior |

The filet was good, but not the best we had on our trip. The sides and desert were also good, but nothing special

Very nice steakhouse in Manhattan

By 943rons |

Classic steakhouse with a wide range of appetizers, salads, steaks, fish and seafood. Very nice service, wines, and the sort of prices that you would expect. I enjoyed it very much, but was happy that I was not paying for it. I had the salmon, which was fine, and was told that the steaks were excellent.

Definitely worth visiting

By tjocCanada |

We visited on a Saturday night with a group of 8. Be aware that there is a Benjamin’s Steakhouse and there is a Benjamin’s Steakhouse Prime. The first one 41st and the second on 40th. Our concierge booked us at one and gave us the address of the other. No issue as they are around the corner from each other. The hostess from the Steakhouse actually walked around the corner with us to ensure that we found the right restaurant. Old school Steakhouse service and food. Good variety of steak and fish. The food was fantastic and the attention from the staff was great. Great wine selection. We will be coming back when we are in NYC again.

Fantastic Christmas Dinner Experience

By b y |

we were a bit disorganised for christmas dinner this year and, after scrambling around on Christmas eve, we were very fortunately to get a table at Benjamin Prime which had a fantastic rating (4.6) and we loved the look of the christmas menu. I have to say, the whole experience was amazing - Lobster Bisque was the best we've had, the steaks were huge and perfectly cooked to our liking, the deserts were amongst the best we have had in NYC. The waiter we had was very friendly, attentive and gave great service. Until the end, this was pretty much a faultess experience. We sat downstairs and there are only 1 washroom cubicle on this floor (1 for males and 1 for females). We were in the restaurant for around 2 hours and my female guests had waited for sometime to access the washroom. Sat at the table alone, I was approached by a manager who clearly was keen to see us exit. Appreciate that this was a very busy period, but the manner in which this was done did leave a slight blemish on the experience.

Excellent!

By L Tran |

We had the lunch prix-fixe (pictured) and it was excellent. The restaurant is within walking distance from my office and I didn’t realize that until now. I will definitely come back.

Top Steak & Service

By jk737 |

Great steak experiance. Top steak, wine and in particular service. We had a booking for 12, but ended up being 18 - not problem, we got a large private table.

Excellent seafood in a steakhouse

By eitlean |

We ate at the restaurant in early July, but most had swordfish mains. It was truly excellent and the service was very efficient. Dessert - chocolate fondant - was perfect. Highly recommend.

Best Meal we have ever eaten!

By Ruth Mahon |

The best Streak we have ever eaten! Absolutely fantastic food & Even better service. The Manager Bruno makes the place what it is! We can not wait to return next year.

Birthday with best friend!

By FrancisLovesTravel |

Filet mignon was delish, and so were the side bacon and salad appetizers. My friend wanted to have fish and so we tried a bottle of white. Choices could be improved in the Sauvignon blank menu section (her favorite - and since it was her birthday dinner she asked for what she wanted). Sommelier wasn't exactly friendly, but we went with his choice as he is he expert - bad call. We kept quite because the last thing I do at restaurants is complaint before my food arrives. Eventually, our waiter noticed we were not happy with the wine - great call. His name was Christian and he saved the day by encouraging us to go with a safer choice: Sancerre.

Lunch meet at The Benjamin Prime

By JerseyB0yDan |

Had a lunch meet up with our friends from the Philippines & their friends here in the NYC area. Being that it was Good Friday, we all opted for their excellently grilled Norwegian Salmon. Deserts pecan pie and cheese cake were also delicious. Their price for lunch special is very reasonable. They are centrally located in midtown Manhattan at 40th Street and Madison Avenue. Highly recommended!

Great Steak House

By Troy V |

Decided to give this a go after going to Benjamins. Well it really is good; a fantastic restaurant and extremely busy bar. Sat down with a beautiful corner table so we had all the room in the world which is what I like. Decided to order the steak for two also and it was delicious however if I was going to have a criticism it was that it could have been hotter as it came to the table. Mac and Cheese was sensational and the service was good, Would thoroughly recommend as a very good steak destination in a great modern setting.

Premium dining experience

By PJRibadeneira |

If you are a prime beef lover, this is the place to eat in NYC. Quite close to NY Public Library, Benjamin Prime offers a top-of-the-line Porterhouse and wonderful cocktails in a quite elegant environment!

100% recommend

By kay |

Went for my boyfriends 40th Birthday, and although they originally forgot his chips it was a fabulous experience. He had Sirloin steak and I had salmon, both were delicious. They then bought him cheesecake and sung happy birthday. It had a lovely ambience, staff were amazing. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. We will be back.

Cut Above the Rest

By YASIR M |

Benjamin Steakhouse Prime delivers an unforgettable dining experience. The dry-aged steaks are perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor, while the elegant atmosphere enhances the meal. Attentive service and a thoughtful wine selection round out the evening. A must-visit for steak lovers!

Amazing

By Unt0uchable |

This place is one of the best steakhouses I have been to. Quick service, reasonably priced. I thoroughly recommend the bone in prime rib.

A reservation means nothing

By Bruce C |

We had an 8:15pm reservation. The maitre’d said our table would be ready in a few minutes. I asked how long a few minutes is, and she said my manager won’t let me say. A few minutes turned out to be an hour. We left.

Fabulous steak

By Mik1984 |

My family and I were welcomed warmly here. The service here was excellent. The steak I had was probably the best steak I have ever had, ever! If you are in the area and love steak, you have to visit!! Cooked to perfection and served sizzling. Sides were good too, as was the wine!

Trying to compare

By FrankRugg |

I've had the privilege to done at both Benjamin's Prime and Keen's. Both quality with slightly diff menu options and dramatically diff interiors. At this level and cost, I'll be picky. Bread Not better than standard and not to level of std quality bakery. Cesear salad very tasty but disappointed about croutons and portion. Delicious dressing in perfect amount. Short an ounce in pour of wine for $27/glass- not happy Chef seriously missed the mark for med rare. More very rare, cold center and seared outside. Not heavily seasoned, thank you. Quality service but never knew who my server was as I had so many. No appetizer, potato, coffee or dessert. Price $115.

Great steakhouse, expensive but worth it

By AmirSz |

Had an early dinner, kept it simple rib eye steak, baked potato and a glass of wine. The steak was amazing, full of taste and exactly medium as requested. The potato was simple and good and the wine delicious. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. Including the tip I paid $100 which is quite a lot for a one course meal, even though it was very good. I if you are around, early dinner time am a good time to pop in for an amazing steak!

My favorite Restaurant

By Granit R |

I have been at Benjamin Prime many times they never disappoint you, top quality food with a top notch service. crab-cake and Filet Tartar were delicious and of course the Bone In Ribeye the best i ever had, everything was superb. And of course I have to mention the second floor, lots of private rooms. We had a Business dinner in the Alcove Room which was very nice and quiet, will be coming back.

Wonderful Christmas Eve Experience

By browns_1950 |

After a long day of seeing the sights on Christmas Eve we were not dressed for dinner as formally as most of the other patrons were. We just stopped in to eat. Much to the relief of the girl greeting the guests we did not have reservations. Lucky for us! We sat at a high top table in the bar. The sommelier recommended a wine that I would not have picked on my own and it was superb. I usually order a filet (my wife's was excellent) but I ordered the New York Sirloin and it was exceptional. Tony took care of us and he was one of the most engaging individuals we have had the pleasure to meet. His service and attention were over the top. We now have another restaurant which we must visit the next time we are in New York. Tony said it was a shame that we did not get to experience the dining room, but had we been in the dining room we would not have had the great experience we had in the bar.

Attentive service, very good food, busy

By Thomas N |

Had filet and some sides. Very, very good. Not as heavy a price as other steak houses. Clean, efficient, and I felt that I for what I paid I was more than happy. Steak was very, very good. Service was sprite. Menu was big enough with the beef, fish, chicken choices. I’ll be back.

Amazing Steak!

By lisajsmith2205 |

We visited for my husbands birthday on recommendation & were not disappointed. Amazing food! Classy ambience & great service.

Sizzling steak and tempting sides.

By Melanie W |

We ate well with a rib-eye and salmon cooked to our specifications. We shared sides of lobster mac and cheese with a crust and sharp, tangy cheeses, and smooth creamed spinach that completed our meal. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was comfortable.

Nice restaurant with excellent meat.

By Mikael T |

We where a group of 12 and we were nicely welcomed. Several waiters around us with fast awareness. A bit hard to talk to each other since it´s very noisy from other guests but I have noticed it´s very common in New York. Reasonable prices and excellent food.

Maybe the best Porterhouse steak in town

By PJRibadeneira |

We are huge meat lovers so, everytime we visit a city, we try to eat at the best Steakhouses in each town. If you also love meat, then you should stop at Benjamin Prime (the upscale version of the Benjamin Steakhouses). Great wine selection, fantastic music and, above all, the best Porterhouse you'll ever have.

Superb steak

By mattwestyorks |

Booked meal on same day, exceeded all expectations. We both had fillet steak with lobster mac n cheese and home fries side, all of which was cooked to perfection and extremely tasty. Impeccable service from start to finish. Be careful on the wine list if your from the UK as a lot of the prices are per glass not for the bottle. Highly recommended.

Excellent, reasonable, pleasant lunch

By Martin D |

Our concierge recommended it, as we were asking for a place to enjoy late lunch. The restaurant was relatively empty and service was therefore excellent. We enjoyed the 3 course lunch menu for $39 per person, which is indeed good value. Pleasant atmosphere with true background music formed the backdrop for an excellent yet reasonable lunch.

Amazing Christmas Dinner!

By BAVANRUDEN |

In NYC over Christmas and made reservations for this restaurant after some research. We are so glad we did. Everything was fantastic. We got there a few minutes before our 830pm reservation so we just grabbed a drink at the bar. We didnt wait long before we were taken to our seat. Our table was right by the elevator, secluded from other tables so it was very nice. Our waiter Ari was amazing. He was the most professional and nice guy. We opted to do the prix fixe menu. We got the lobster salad and Italian burrata for appetizers, we both had the filet mignon for our main entree, our sides we went with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. Everything was absolutely amazing. I could not finish my meal because there was so much and we had to take our desserts to go (which they gladly packed up). I highly suggest giving this place a try if you are looking for great steak with excellent service. We are beyond happy we chose this restaurant for our Christmas dinner!

Great Ribeye, great service

By Ko E |

True to it's heritage, Benjamin's is a great high end steakhouse. The dry aged beef is excellent, butchered perfectly and cooked to perfection. My 20oz bone-in ribeye was one of the most tender and melt in your mouth ribeyes I have ever had. I have been to many steakhouses but this meat was aged to perfection, very little gristle, excellent marbling and prepared to exactly how I like it, blue. I typically never finish a steak over 10 ounces but on this occasion, I downed the whole thing accompanied with mushrooms, asparagus and potatoes. I finished up with a creme-brulee to top off the evening. The service was timely, attentive and friendly despite how busy the restaurant was on this evening. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here.

Nice salad

By KaPvacay |

Very good service, nice scallops and nice salad. Nice wine. My husband had soup which he said was nice and enjoyed his salad. $130

Very Good but could be better

By lizziebm |

The service was excellentThe steaks also,The fries at $13.00 should be enough for a table of 4,the rolls were old and microwaved as last visit, the bread is much better at the Cheesecake Factory,The Sundae should be hot fudge and the Schlog was watery. No excuse for stale rolls.Visit PeterLuger and check out big basket of fresh made mixed rolls and their Hot Fudge Sundae with a dish of fresh made schlog.JFYI Rockland Bakery delivers fresh rolls and bread.People expect the complete WOW factor at these prices.

Wow - Perfect

By chappersd |

Please note this is not a cheap restaurant nor is it value for money but it is the best experience and not just the food quality I have yet to experience in the USA. Very attentive staff who will look after you. I had the surf n turf which was a fillet steak. Obviously it comes with a steak knife but you could cut it with a piece of cardboard it was so tender, not greasy and with stunning side dishes. Good white wine choices also for a steak house, very unusual. Perfect n recommend to any brits wanting to experience a perfect steak night. Ps the tiramisu is not your standard but is also stunning. I could go on... and I thought San Francisco was good for steaks...

Christmas Day Lunch

By Tracey B |

Interesting place was a great meal we ate off the menu not the Christmas one. Great food, service was good just don’t expect any personality or anyone making you feel welcome who is serving in the restaurant. Rolling of the eyes on how my husband wanted his steak, yes we know it’s not the done thing however if your paying it should be how you want it. The most welcoming person of all was the coat attendant she was lovely. Great food and drinks.

Different Location with the same Excellent Flare and Service!

By David B |

I promised my friends a birthday dinner to what I consider to be the best Steak in NYC. They had other favorites.... Our meal was private, upstairs and the service that Sean & Mark provided us was top notch as I have come to expect from this organization from any of their locations! We started with Orin Swifts Petite Sirah called Machete, great wine to begin and end with! Meal consisted of Wedge Salad, Porter house for 2, Tomahawk, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Lobster Mac & Cheese (you hungry yet?) and we finished with their Flourless Chocolate cake...and more Machete! Mark & Sean both made sure we were all well attended to! My friends left with a new favorite Steak in the city! Highly Recommend and yes we will return on our return visit to the city!

Best dining experience

By Tim B |

In NYC for business. First night there were 20 people on a Monday night in our party. Staff is spectacular. Never waited for a drink, refill, new set of cutlery. Wine, house red is Cabernet Sauvignon that is bold and dry goes well with steak. Dinner was delicious. Steaks cooked to perfection. So good. Wife and I went following day for late lunch. I had power lunch, 45 dollars. Scottish salmon cooked medium as I requested was exceptional. Burrata app and cheesecake dessert excellent. Our server at the bar (Lilly)? Was excellent! Will go back again when in that part of NYC. (Near Grand Central)

good place

Excellent food a very very nice time our waitress was from Kosovo she was extremely helpful very nice the atmosphere the ambience the food everything was delicious highly recommended for a night out I highly recommend it

Biggest porterhouse I have ever seen ;(

By Rondelafuente |

So one 2 of my beat buddies in nyc insisted we have ‘meat, lots of meat’, no vegetarian for these industry veterans, and they took mr to Benjamin Prime. No starters we jumped straight into a 3 person porterhouse which was just amazing. The half dinosaur appeared quickly (app 10 minute cooking time for medium rare) and it did not disappoint! Each of us had our own béarnaise and pepper sauce (very thick and succulent) and accompanied the porterhouse with creamed spinach, onion rings and panfried peppers. Really amazing veggies! After devouring the mountain of meat we shared key lime and chocolate cake and the fantastic staff offered us limoncello as last chapter. All in all an amazing meal, really great staff and if u can get a reservation (it was crazy busy) do visit Benjamin! Highly recommendable!

Excellent Dinner

By Steve M |

Went here for a small family celebration and was delighted with the experience. We elected to dine outside so I can't speak to the restaurant itself but the dining experience was first class and the food was outstanding.

Not sure why everyone is raving about this place. So disappointing.

By VVNJJ |

I was recommended this steakhouse by the concierge at my hotel. I was expecting an incredible meal judging by some of these reviews and from the recommendation itself. I was sorely disappointed and left hungry after spending £200. I chose the Porterhouse steak for two. I asked for medium. I ended up getting rare. They had to take it back to cook it and even said themselves "that is not medium, it's alive." It came back way too well done and was tough, rubbery and just tasteless. It was frankly gross. The plate was just full of over cooked, grey chunky meat and was just inedible. All the sides were over garnished with onion, it was just too much. The quality of the meat itself was not at all outstanding. Even if it was cooked properly it was still lacklustre. Left 3/4 of the plate and left hungry. Don't get the hype. I have had much better steak in other places. One positive was the staff- incredibly attentive, well trained and professional. Shame about the meat.

All around great experience

By TravelingMom0713 |

We booked a last minute reservation. Such a great experience. Service was superb. The truffle butter is so good. Porterhouse for two was amazing. Brussels are a great. The wine list is outstanding, We will definitely be back again.

Lovely venue, but

By jgmshine |

The restaurant is classy and sophisticated. The service was excellent. However, it is advertised as being one of the best steakhouses in the country and I am afraid it doesn't meet up to those expectations. We were hungry, shared the 28 oz. porterhouse (bone in) and ended up taking over 1/2 of it "home" with us. To the contrary, while in Elways in Denver (located in the Ritz Carlton) we ordered their 28 oz. porterhouse and we almost gnawed on the bone by the time we finished. The prices were "reasonable" and wine list extensive and not outrageous.

Graduation celebration dinner in NYC

By AnnetteMarie332 |

My mom took my daughter, her friend, and me to NYC to celebrate their graduation from high school. We had a celebratory dinner at Benjamin Prime because Benjamin was booked. The hostess who took our reservation assured us that the food would be the same. Our experience was wonderful, from start to finish! The steaks were absolutely incredible. The filet, as hoped for, literally melted in your mouth! We also had the ribeye and sirloin, which was cooked to perfection. I wish we had ordered the onion rings and steak fries instead of the lobster mac and cheese. We were not impressed at all with these; HOWEVER, I let our waiter know of our disappointment and he was thankful we let him know so he could rectify our disappointment instead of rant about it here, which he did! They brought dessert, New York Cheesecake, with a congratulatory message for the girls, this just made their evening that much more special. The cheesecake was incredible, it is the best I've had (and I'm not a cheesecake fan) other than homemade, by a native Italian! Thank you, Benjamin Steakhouse Prime, your staff went above and beyond for us and helped to create an amazing memory for us!!

BEST STEAKHOUSE IN NYC!

By George K |

Benjamin Steakhouse Prime on 40th Street in Manhattan is the best steakhouse in NYC. Recently visited the establishment and was very impressed with the experience. The ambiance, food and service were impeccable. The steak was perfect. An incredible recommendation to both Grant and Sean the Manager. These two gentlemen provided a phenomenal experience. Sean and Grant are true professionals truly knowledgeable about their product and consultative and altruistic with their recommendations. Benjamin Steakhouse Prime on 40th Street, Grant and Sean are highly recommended. We will definitely visit again. Well done Benjamin Steakhouse Prime !!!

THE BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE

By Robert B |

We went to New York city for Chrismas 2018, Made reservations for (4) with Benjamin Prime Stake house. We checked our coats. Matrade sat us at a beautiful table, for an appetizer we ordered the seafood combo that my wife saw on the way to our table. After several bottles of wine and 4 courses later. It was no longer a meal it was truly a dining experience, with several waiters and fresh linen between courses. Worth every penny for the ride. We highly recommend if you are in the big apple try Benjamin Prime you will not be disappointed. We can not wait to go back

Quality team needs a brush up course

By jknight910 |

My intention was not to post this review. I even emailed this post to management asking for some acknowledgment that there was a problem. I received a response saying they would get back to me. But, they never did. Below is the response from January 3. “Good morning John, I’m so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with us on New Years Eve. I’m going to share your email with the managers at Benjamin Prime to discuss this with them. I’ll respond back to you with more details after I speak to them.” Clearly, Benjamin Prime did not have a problem with this post. Only speaking for myself, I will not go to this steakhouse again and will not recommend it to anyone. Here is the review: I was part of a group of seven that dined at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime on New Year's Day. I ordered a large filet medium-well. When I received the steak, it had several obvious nodules of fat and fat around all of the edges. I informed the server but did not make a scene or ask for the manager, etc. I simply said, "this has a lot of fat." The server said we would get you another. I sat at the table and ate my baked potato…..so it would not get cold. I was never offered an apology or a "what can we do to make this right," etc. Everyone in the group ate while I watched. Later, a person (someone in a suit) said it would be out shortly. However, it had been several minutes; the others at the table were done; and, my baked potato was gone. I said, "we're done, and it's not needed." The person said, "ok, we will cancel it. Again, no apology. Here is my "filet beef." I spent over 90 minutes of my NYC vacation time at a high-end steakhouse that I can't get back. Ninety minutes of wasted time. Moreover, I ordered a filet, and all I got was a baked potato. Management, I was expecting an above average experience. I have realistic expectations. A little more empathy would have been nice!

Great Steakhouse for lunch

By Steve F |

We had a bunch of folks having everything from Steaks to Salads along with appetizers at a lunch meeting. The staff is excellent along with the food. Ask for some of their homemade potato chips.

OK ,steakhouse

By Scott L |

Had the restaurant week price fixe menu. My wife had the sirloin steak which was OK but not exceptional. She also had the "creamless cream spinach" which she described as inedible. I paid extra for the filet mignon. The cut was larg mbut not as tender as I would expect a filet mignon to be.

A great steakhouse in Manhattan

By Peter G |

This Restaurant continues to excel in a city with many great steakhouses. A terrific menu with outstanding selections - combined with always excellent service and friendly, welcoming management. Highly recommended!

Excellent Food and Excellent Service

By LiJo4145 |

My husband and I ate here and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding. My husband and I shared several dished and when the entree arrived the waited split it at our table. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and we were not disappointed as it was delicious. The salmon was tasty and cooked to perfection. The brussell sprouts were prepared with balsamic vinegar, and they were absolutely the best way I've eaten brussell sprouts. Besides the good good, the service is outstanding. All of the staff we very attentive to our needs. We look forward to returning here again.

Great steakhouse

By Shamirraanan |

There are many steakhouses in New York but this one is definitely one of the best. Great soups (onion. Lobster), high quality meat and great service.

Bad ending

By Yonatan Ben Avi |

Food is great but I don’t understand why they can accept only 4 credit cards per table. Me and my 11 group of friends needed to start looking for an atm to pay for the food at 11 pm. Not the best experience…

Delicious Fine Dining

By DellaK1 |

We wanted a special place to celebrate our 40th anniversary while in New York. The atmosphere was beautiful and relaxed. The wait staff was exceptional and not intrusive. They paid attention to us like we were their only table, though the tables within our view were full the whole time. Now.... the best part was the food. We had the porterhouse for two. Cooked to perfection with great presentation. The sides were delicious also. If you want the combo of superb of meal and service.... this is the place!!!

Simply the Best Steakhouse in NYC

By Kevin |

I’ve had the pleasure to dine at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime on several occasions. The experience is always fabulous. This restaurant is simply the best steakhouse in Manhattan. I’ve dined in all of them before but Benjamin Prime is the best ever! The food is always terrific. Everything on the menu is prepared perfect and delicious. Steaks are highest quality beef and amazing! You will always receive a warm greeting from Sean and Michael when you arrive and get excellent service from waiters and bartenders Diki and Bashir. Service is obviously part of this restaurants DNA. The dinning room looks great and always has a terrific buzz. Check this place out if you want a great meal with great service.

A truly fine restaurant

By mikedb11 |

Food and service both were spectacular. Our waiter, Jet, paid close attention to my wife’s food allergy and got everything 100% right. The bone in ribeye was a great piece of meat and prepared perfectly. The French onion soup was full of cheese and excellent. It truly is a fine restaurant.

Great Steakhouse Experience

By GlennR |

Benjamin's is your typical big city steakhouse. Dark paneling, high ceilings, classic design, elegant atmosphere. The food and service are outstanding.

First class steak with excellent wine list

By Kevin M |

We had the New York Sirlion and Rib Eye along with some fries, mash and sprouts with creamed spinach. Really nice KnightsBridge cab sav complemented the meal. Impressive wine list. We just don’t get steak like this in the Uk… certainly will be memorable. Service excellent, I really would recommend this place for a first class experience.

The Best Steak House In New York City

By YorkshireBiomed |

Straight to the point here - this was the best steak I’ve ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the sides were incredible. We drank the Malbec (Mendoza) which paired perfectly with the steak. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New York City. We ate on Christmas Day and had the prix-fixe menu - for $89 I couldn’t believe the quality and size of the meal we were served. The best meal we’ve had since being in NYC. And the best steak I’ve had, anywhere in the world.

The perfect steak

By Jônatas W |

Everything was amazing. The entrees, the wine options, the wagyu A5 beef. It was the best stake I’ve eaten in my life. Everything worked so well. Service was good, but nothing out of this world, which is the only thing I’d recommend the restaurant to improve. I’d like to return every time I’m in nyc.

Christmas Day

By damejac |

A absolute “MUST” if you are a lover of fine steak & excellent service. Extensive wine list, excellent choice of both steaks & sides not to mention desserts. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel The Avalon when we requested a fine dining 1st class restaurant for Christmas Day. We regularly dine in Mitchelin star restaurants & top quality steak houses in the UK & Portugal & in our opinion this restaurant should apply for a Mitchelin Star. We shared a Porterhouse for 4 people (my husband, my son, daughter-in-law & myself) with a variety of sides, were delighted to see a good selection of European wines including top quality Italian Amarone & French Chablis on the list, though would love to see some of Portugal’s finest on the list in future. The staff were attentive but not intrusive & despite working at Christmas very good humored & friendly. Our only slight sadness was seeing several tables who clearly did not either understand the correct etiquette for how to dress or appreciate the finer things in life. All four of us would highly recommend this restaurant & in fact have already done so some friends who are flying to New York later in the year from the UK.

Exceptional Steaks and Service

By Kevin |

Another great dining experience at Benjamin’s Prime. My wife and I have enjoyed many fantastic meals there over the past several years. The steaks and service are always exceptional. Thank you Shawn, Arbis, and Didi, for the enhanced hospitality you extended us throughout our visit. Benjamin’s Prime is the Best Steakhouse in NYC. Keep up the great work!

Xmas Day Lunch delivery

By JaneCumbria |

Contacted restaurant by email to organise a Xmas Meal delivery for our daughter who due to pandemic could not return home to UK and was alone in NYC for Xmas. Customer service was excellent with prompt email response advising how to place order. All was confirmed by email. Meal was requested for 4pm and was delivered at that exact time. It looked amazing and we were advised it tasted amazing too. Thank you to Benjamin Prime for such excellent service and we will definitely visit when we are next in New York.

Proper New York steak

Fantastic setting for an original New York steak dinner experience Service was faultless with attentive waiter service Meal was superb

Very disappointing

By 363timp |

Expensive, but to be expected in a New York City steakhouse. Dined there with family, ordered three filets and the meat quality was above average but one would expect a steak house to know how to prepare a steak to a given doneness…all three were way undercooked and lacked any normally expected sauces (bernaise, bordelaise, maitre d hotel butter, etc.) presentation consisted of a piece of meat on a plate with a lowly sprig of wilted parsley. Service was decent nothing special nothing to comment good or bad. Very disappointed after have made reservation months in advance we were stuck in an upstairs banquet room with no redeeming qualities or atmosphere. There are far better choices for dinning, very disappointing.

Big portion

By carbopro |

Walking distance from National Library. There are two restaurants which located close to each other. It’s not even 6pm on weekday, one of them already full house. The staff is very kind and walk me to their other outlet. They have a full list of wine for you to choose. Portion size is huge for Asian and steak is well cook.

Delectable Delicious

By Patrick K |

The food, service, and atmosphere are top notch with so many fantastic menu items. This is a business casual upscale restaurant in a beautiful area of NYC. Famous for their “prime” steaks but offering fish choices as well. I will return every time I am back in NYC!

Visited the other day to show my guys some love an as always good & wine was remarkable. Had a bottle of Stewart Cabernet & they famous lobster Mac&Cheese an it was good to the last drop. Sean,Ben & Johnny all came over to chat it up with me which i love because they treat me like family. Please open Sea Fire i miss going there as well

Not as promised!

By Shanij60 |

We visited Benjamin after receiving very good recommendations by friends ,but we did not have a good experience ,particulary with the service. We got a dry fillet of steak and after we comented that to the manager he tryed to convince us that this is the way of a medium fillet. He also arged with me when I said that we don't like it. The food is good ,the value for money is low ,but the worse service is absolutely unaceptable. We will not come back!!

Amazing Steak and Service

By TammyP38 |

Benjamin Steakhouse has one of the best steaks we have ever eaten. We ordered the steak for 2 and it came to the table cooked to perfection especially for 2 people that do not eat their steak at the same temperature. Ricky, our waiter, cut the steak with a spoon it was that tender. The home fries and spinach were both great compliments to the steak. Ricky was very attentive to our every need. We enjoyed talking to him about wine and travel. After talking about wine with us, he recommended a great bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that went perfect with the steak. We will definitely make Benjamin Steakhouse one of our regular places to go on our yearly visits to NYC.

Great restaurant, excellent service!

By Adam C |

We had booked a private room as we were a big group. The service was excellent and the food amazing, although the well-done order on the meat had been a little too-well done!

Pricey Steak done well

By DownunderBob |

Recommended by our hotel concierge Benjamin’s is a very pleasing restaurant , tables are close but the high ceilings makes it feel spacious and relaxing . We ordered the steak for 2 @ $110 with sides of mash and cauliflower gratin . The steak was tender and cooked perfectly with a crunchy grilled outside and a juicy deliciousness on the inner . The mash and cauliflower both great accompaniments . We had a beautiful Barbera to compliment the meal . The only negatives to me were firstly the meal hit the table about 7 minutes after ordering and made us feel rushed and for $110 for just the steak on its own , which is maybe NY standard , a little overpriced . For this little Aussie battler add on the tip and convert to AUD it made it a $200 steak to me . In saying that for steak lovers this is great

Fantastic

By timbeard132 |

On our last evening in New York, our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant for their steaks. The porterhouse steak was perfection. We could not have had a better experience for our last evening. While the price is on the high side, it is well worth it. The service is impeccable. This will be a regular stop whenever we go to New York.

Pricey But Worth It

By Mike B |

I thought the quality was excellent. I had the bone in rib eye, my wife had the filet. Service was attentive, atmosphere was comfortable. One block from Marriott Courtyard where we were staying. Not a bargain but good value for the money. We would return.

Business dinner in a private room for a reasonably large party, about 20. Steak and seafood were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Service was attentive but not cloying. Great wine list. You can’t go wrong and this restaurant.

A great experience

By Manuel C |

The combination of good dishes and good service allowed me an unforgettable family experience.

A great steakhouse

By Parallel 40 |

Visited Benjamin for Restaurant week and was amazed at the quantity and quality of our lunch. My husband had the restaurant week special and I had the prix-fixe lunch (at 39.99 a great deal) Ir Petite sirloin was anything but small, served with green beans and roasted potatoes, tasty and perfectly cooked. I had started with a super crab cake, with chunks of crab. My cheesecake was perfection and the service most attentive. Highly recommended.

Great Steakhouse

By boooche |

We came here on the recommendation of the concierge at the Four Seasons (thank you Emmanuel). We were not disappointed. The service was impeccable. The food arrived timely and was delicious. We would have lingered if we didn't have a show to go to.

Great flavour

By Anakin |

This steak house very good , he meat has amazing flavour and seasoning, where there is no need to ask for a sauce , really good , I do recommend this restaurant. Great selection of wines and cocktails.

Truly the best restaurant and steakhouse in New York City!

By Peter G |

It had been 8 months since my last outstanding visit to Benjamin Prime. I was hoping it had retained its level of excellence. I am happy to report that it not only has retained it -- but has actually exceeded it! The steaks and side dishes were amazing, the bartenders constructed our drinks perfectly; the service was friendly, efficient, and on-point all night; and the attention we received from the management enhanced our evening. Benjamin Prime has become one of the finest restaurants of any kind in New York City!

Sooo delicious... a must visit

By Lovebug5332 |

I am still raving about this place to family and friends because the food was amazing and the service was impeccable! I took my boyfriend here for a romantic birthday dinner as he is a steak lover whereas I am not. I was looking for the perfect blend where neither one of us had to compromise on what we preferred to eat. He likes steak while I like seafood and Benjamin Steakhouse Prime provided the perfect balance. He had the NY Sirloin while I had the Salmon and it was unbelievable. Our server was Ronnie and the manager Sean checked up on us several times throughout the evening. We felt like they really cared about our experience and we appreciated that very much. We will definitely be back!

Friendly service at a NYC steakhouse!

By Eforce1962 |

I went for lunch with a work associate. The thing that stood out to me was how nice everyone is. The waiters were super accommodating and could not make you feel any more comfortable. We had the steak salad and frankly it was fantastic. Coupled that with a couple drinks and a shared dessert and it was just a great experience. I go to a lot of Steak places in the NY and find that you don't always get a well rounded experience. Honestly for what you pay we should all demand it to be so. I would recommend a visit to this spot.

Amazing!

By Kathimiami1 |

This was an amazing culinary experience! Not often you get superb service and excellent food! Everything was perfect. Our server Grant was the very best!! Highly recommend!

Always the Best Steak House in NYC

By Kevin |

Benjamin’s Steakhouse “Prime” is still the best steakhouse in NYC. Had the opportunity to have a dinner in my honor in NYC last week. Picked Benjamin’s Prime based on my excellent prior experiences. As usual, the Benjamins Prime team over delivered. Food was outstanding as well as enhanced hospitality from Ben, Dikki, and Sean. They simply always do it perfect! Me and our 17 guests totally enjoyed our special evening. The Alcove room was perfect. Thank you. We’ll be back again soon.

Excellent steak

By btandwn |

An excellent upperclass steak house: good service, superb food, nice ambiance (it is a little dark though).

Solid choice for steak, if you like steak.

By localfolkhero |

Been here once before and wanted to bring my family here because it’s one of the top 3 steaks I’ve had. So was hoping I was going to get a consistent experience. Ordered the bone in ribeye and porterhouse for two to share with the table - plus a side of steak fries. Shared with everyone and it all went fast. Both options were awesome, and cut up for easy (and quick) devouring. Very tender and savory. Fried were seasoned just enough. I guess we beat the crowd as there was only one or two other groups there at the time on a Saturday- and so also decided to grab a dessert or two - tiramisu and the flourless chocolate molten cake. Skip the tiramisu - it’s too cakey. The flourless cake, however, was worth the price of admission - gooey and tender inside and warm on the outside without being crusty. I’ll still give it 5/5 even though the tiramisu was a miss.

Luxurious atmosphere

By YacchanAmarone |

My American partner treated me to dinner here. The lighting was dim and luxurious, as you'd expect from a Benjamin restaurant. I had the porterhouse steak. I wish the sirloin had a little more fat, but it was still delicious. A California red wine costs at least $100 before tax and $130 after tax and service charge. This can be said about Manhattan's service in general, but I think it would seem quite expensive to people living in Japan.

What a disappointment

By Laura U |

Local recommended by the hotel staff, great welcome, friendly waiters, quite elegant environment, just acceptable quality meat cooked badly, too dry outside without oil or other seasoning to make it at least swallowable. On a plate there was also a shrimp, a piece of lobster and crab: three chewing gums with no flavor... the only positive thing , which is not up to them, the beer was cold! Ah the absolutely excessive cost: more than $300 with the claim of the tip, almost a mockery... never again

Consistently the Best Steakhouse Ever!

By Kevin |

We had the opportunity to dine at Benjamin Prime again last week and as usual the experience was fantastic. In our opinion, this is the best steakhouse in NYC if not the entire country. The food is always spectacular, the decor is on point, and the service is simply awesome. The Benjamin’s Prime staff is always professional and provide enhanced hospitality to every guest. Congratulations Sean, Dikki, and Ben for always delivering a consistently wonderful dining experience.

Amazing steak

By Donald C |

The steak was incredible. I will surely crave for this and I won't think twice to come back here just to have it again

Amazing steak and first class service!

By Phil R |

Myself and two work colleagues went for dinner on a recommendation and I’m so glad we did. Service was impeccable and the food exquisite. Three different steaks cooked to perfection, amazing cuts and brilliant side dishes. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Enjoyable experience

By BeccaKate54 |

Juicy and tasty.great quality meat Lots of choice Huge portion. Waiters and restaurant team helpful friendly polite. Good setting nice drinks menu. Enjoy visit thanks

Excellent evening!

By Sarah C |

There are great meals and great experiences and Benjamin Prime delivers both! Christian was attentive without being overbearing and always ready to help with his suggestions. The wagyu beef and side veggies were incredible. This steakhouse is one of the best in the city...and a great spot to be close to Times Square, but out of the madness!

Excellent grilled dishes

By Sassasan |

I love grilled steak here. This restaurant provides not only good steak and also some other dishes such as grilled tuna. I very love grilled tuna here. It’s excellent!

EXCELLENT VIA GRUBHUB DURING THE PANDEMIC

By doug100worth |

We wanted a Peter Luger style steak for dinner at home and ordered through GRUBHUB. We placed an order well in advance to be delivered at 8pm and they were exactly on time.....we live 20 blocks away. Dinner was terrific.....a porterhouse steak for 2 medium rare, a baked potato, creamed spinach (they threw in rolls). We will do this again when the mood hits. The mood has hit several times and it's always the same except we've changed the creamed spinach for tomato, onion and bacon salad. Everything is great and as it's too much for the two of us to have for dinner we save for breakfast the next morning. EXCELLENT

Excellent steak & great service

By Angela |

Birthday dinner at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime was great. First of all the waiters were extremely attentive. The steak was cooked to our liking and plenty of it. Didn’t even manage to eat it all. Would highly recommend this great place.

A complete feast!

By PJRibadeneira |

Whenever you're in Midtown or around Times Square and you're in the mood for the meal of your lifetime, you MUST stop at this premium steakhouse. Their Porter House is really to die for! Beautiful ambiance, fantastic music, excellent service.

Saturday night in the city - yes, it’s the 20s

By elaineontheroad |

Made a reservation here easily but arrived at the other Benjamin Steak House in error. Check your address carefully when ordering your Uber. The food was great - salads, scallops, sides and bone in rib eye- all great. I had the cheesecake which was just so-so but my husband had the pecan pie which was awesome! I didn’t rate this place a 5star strictly because of the service. Don’t get me wrong, the service was very attentive and appropriate; however, it was entirely directed at my husband. Not once was I asked my opinion on how a dish tasted or if I was pleased. At one point my husband actually encouraged the waiter to seek out my opinion and he visibly blanched. Get with it people! It’s 2020 not 1920. We women can actually vote AND pay for a meal.

Good service.

By onthemach |

Thanksgiving Dinner. What stands out is service: polite, efficient, attentive. Traditional Thanksgiving dinner, good not exceptional, none are unless you cook!

Great locale for business lunch

By Pandora_is_Eve |

This restaurant is sister/brother to Benjamin's Steakhouse on 41st street. One of my colleague's said you can walk through one to get to the other. This side is much quieter and therefore is more amenable to having a conversation without having to yell. The food ... meh. Can't cook steak to an accurate temperature. But remember you're not here for the food, you're here to do business. I indicate the pricing as mid-range because it is about mid-range for an NYC Steakhouse.

Top NYC steakhouse

By Ahmed Elshandawily |

Top notch steak (both the sirloin and ribeye are world-class), stellar service, and great ambience. Ranks right up there with Keen's, Luger's, and other top steakhouses in NYC (and probably the world).

Benjamin Steakhouse Prime

By Kevin |

Benjamin Steakhouse Prime is simply the best steakhouse in NYC hands down. We have dined here on several occasions and each time the food, service, and entire dining experience is always outstanding. Special thanks to our server Rick and his assistant Ernest for great service. Diki and Lilly at the bar are fantastic. Congratulations to Benjamin Prime Management for consistently delivering a great experience! We will be back!

Birthday weekend

By AHIDALGO |

My husband is a lover of steaks He ordered Porter and myself a filet. Both delicious ! Nice atmosphere and great service !

From our first experience

By Kevin |

From our first experience dining at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime we understood it was the “Best Steakhouse Ever”. After dinning there on every visit to NYC from Boston we always left feeling the same way! It’s the best steakhouse in NYC. I’ve been to them all. None are better then Benjamin Prime. We wanted to let the team and our friends at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime know we are thinking of you during these difficult times and so looking forward to being together again soon. We miss your enhanced hospitality and most importantly your smiling faces.

Really top notch steak place

By EEEEA1234 |

Great ribeye and steak for 3. As good as any high end steakhouse, even though the ambience is really not high end. Place is noisy. Service is fast, no frills. You come here for the food. It’s as good as other places charging 50% more.

Mr

By morielm2018 |

We stayed in NYC for a short visit and wanted to have good steaks. Instead - we hade THE BEST. So we’re also the creamy spinach and baked potato. Incredible Porterhouse stake which we thought we shall never manage to finish. But we did...at the end we were served with limoncello “on the house”. Great service and great atmosphere.

Grat steak house

Great steak house. I loved the service and the staff. Very friendly atmosphere and the steak was delicious. I will certainly come back to visit.

Better than I expected it would be

By JaminK |

This was our first night in NYC but we had booked Benjamin's well ahead of our trip. We ordered Porterhouse for 2 and my daughter had the fillet. Utterly amazing. I wish Porterhouse was on more UK menus, but sadly it isn't. Very nice waiter from Michigan who was excellent, along with the rest of the staff. But what topped it for me, was Benjamin's truly unbelievable wine list. I'm not a wine expert, but I've been around a fair bit and I can't recall a wine list as extensive as this one. But what is really clever about Benjamin's is how well it's priced and it's value for money. I expected anything French in NYC to be really expensive, or not exist, but they have got this completely spot on. Bordeaux with your Porterhouse? They have pages of them. Even a whole page of Margaux, but really well priced right up to high end vintage (if that suits your pocket). Same scenario for White Burgundy, whole page of Meursault, a whole page of Chalbis, etc.etc. same pricing approach. Really well thought out Benjamin's and the sort of thing that turns a dinner into something far better. (Oh and the food's not bad either!) Highly recommended, good night, good people, will come back.

As expected- great steaks !

By StephenCross |

Nice ambiance and good service. Food was really good and wine list extensive. It’s pricy even better NY standard. But worth it!

Benjamin Prime - Another Outstanding Experience!

By petergladis |

I went to Benjamin Prime for a long luncheon with some friends I have not seen in a long time. Having dined at Benjamin Prime many times, I was confident my guests would have an enjoyable experience. Well, it was not only enjoyable -- but OUTSTANDING! All elements of the dining experience were top-notch: from the great cocktails by the bartender LILY, to the outstanding service from our server, RONNIE, and to the welcoming attentive floor manager, SEAN. And oh yes, the food! Great tartars, perfect shrimp cocktails, delicious side dishes, and of course luscious steaks! The three of us ordered different ones: a New York Strip, a Filet Mignon, and for me, a Bone-in Ribeye. Each were perfectly cooked and delicious! Thank you, Benjamin Prime!

Steak, Steak, Steak!

By alf49 |

Excellent service, steaks that cound'nt be better, so juicy and tasty! Sure it's pricey but it's really worth it.

Hectic, uncomfortable and cold steak.

By Unterwegs |

We had booked in time for a Saturday night and were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we were put on the second floor, which is very hectic and noisy. For my wife we had ordered a filet of mignon. It was cold and therefore not edible. We claimed this and after a long time a burnt steak came back that was anything but medium. My wife had to eat alone now. This is not how we presented our evening.

Terrible Steak…good cocktails

By Mike S |

Shared the porterhouse for 3. It was one of the worst pieces of meat I have had at a good steakhouse. It was prepared correctly but the meat itself was fatty and tough. Very disappointing. The cocktails were the only good thing.

Terrific Experience

By Bordeauxonmymind |

After a long day of business, we needed a quality meal to end the day. Read the reviews for Prime and they were accurate. As soon as we walked in the attentiveness for our coat check and seating arrangements was a sign of good things to come. The service, food and atmosphere was spot on. Genci was our wait person with Shawn as our Sommelier, very attentive to our needs with additional staff on hand to make sure the table was never cluttered. Started with the Grilled Calamari, charred and salted perfectly. We continued with a Cesar salad that was split due to the size of the salad and for the main course selected the Organic Scottish Salmon and Chilean Sea Bass with sides of Mashed Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts and the Winter Mushrooms. Way to much food with our portions which was expected for leftovers. What a great meal! Kudos to the staff at Prime... We look forward to our next visit in the near future.

Dry steak slow service

By Nikki J |

We waited nearly an hour between starter and main. When main arrived, fillet steak was overly charred and dry. Asked for a peppercorn sauce to relieve the challenge of swallowing dry meat, but unfortunately took 10 minutes to arrive. Steak fries A bit over-done. At $270 I was expecting better. Makes me wonder if this place should just get an ink-stamp and print on customer foreheads “sucker” as they whip the dollars out of your pocket. Not for me. On the plus side the restaurant itself has a nice vibe, but I think more for groups and only if you happen to be seated in the best place. Shame - maybe Keen’s is better, but unfortunately was booked.

I love steak, and Benjamins is the best steak house in NYC

By David L |

I love steak, great wine, amazing sides, the best service, great cocktails - and Benjamin’s has it absolutely all to perfection. I love this place, but the key is their steaks, just amazing,

Rushed cooked steak burned on the outside and raw in the middle

By Jamie H |

Clearly in more of a hurry to get food on the table than to do it right. The steak was black on the outside and raw in the middle. Service with a grimace but a lot of love for regulars who got hugs and kisses. It was a random selection and I was pretty disappointed. Not cheap for the alleged quality.

Good restaurant

By Lin201865 |

I always go to the Benjamin Stake House whenever I travel to New York. I tried the Prime for the first time, loved atmosphere. More quiet and space between the tables, I could enjoy the conversation with my friends. Food were excellent, especially tartare! I ordered filet mignon tartare, amazing! We also enjoyed stakes. Only one huge difference between Benjamin and prime is staff. All staff at the Benjamin are very friendly and attentive. Here, a few of them are just chatting without even paying attention to customers. When I asked the waiter what his recommendations were, he just pointed out the menu, this is salad, steaks, etc. you know I can read menus. But the managers were very nice and kind! I will definitely return

Quite perfect but not yet

By jjsmonaco |

Food and service deserve 5 stars There is nothing bad to say about the caviar we ate as well as the blinis quality The porterhouse was one of the best meat we had Nevertheless we found two majors setbacks when you paid 600$ for two people: The sommelier needs more glamour in opening the bottle. First you don’t pull out completely the aluminum cover that taps the cork, you just cut the top, then you make customer smells the cork, that the minimum ask when you drink a Pauillac Lynch Bages The other part that was not at the food nivel, the noise, for sure not a romantic place when you need to shout to be heard

Superb!!

By BlueAnto |

Awesome food - Great service and fantastic ambience. At first I felt a little cramped for space but the other three key things I highlights made up for this. The Yanks sure know how to serve up a great meal.

Thoroghly Underwhelmed

By Andy M |

This place was recommended by friends who came with us on holiday. Both they and us were very underwhelmed. Restaurant was cold, most customers at the front were sitting with their coats on. Service was average as was the food. Restraunt manager began to argue with me when I only offered 10% gratuity rather than their 'Minimum Recommended 18%' which would have added the full cost of another diner to the bill.

Christmas Dinner

By Michelle W |

First time to New York, several people recommended this restaurant. Made reservations for Christmas Dinner, this place was amazing best steak my family has ever had and the service was great. If you are ever in New York definitely have dinner at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime.

Too loud too crowded too expensive

By Lori G |

We were 6 on a Thursday nite. Conveniently located near Grand Central . This place is huge and beyond too loud. So loud I could speak to the person next to me but not across the table. Tables are on-top of each other - making service difficult for wait staff. Very expensive - ~$20 for an appetizer - a piece of filet mignon is $72. Assume $150 pp minimum. I prefer Wolfgang’s in Tribeca.

Best ever

By Libertad Vallejo |

It's a great place to have a delicious food! The staff can not be better, very friendly and gentle. They Help usted all the time, Genci speak a remarkable spanish, that was very helpful! Try the sparagus and the wayun beef, the deserts are awesome!!!! Every penny worth it, relation about cost-benefit totally recomended

World class steak

By JordanPass |

Unbelievably good steak. Great selection of cuts and meats available. Impeccable wine list to accompany any choice of meal. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Great dinner and lowest wine prices in NYC

By Rosgriffin |

What a delight! We have gone to their sister restaurant around the corner and have always enjoyed our meal. This is a new Benjamin's and I highly recommend it. Service was professional, friendly, accurate, and timely. We were immediately seated and served. They have a great menu as you would expect in NYC. We were attending the NYC Wine experience so we were very current in our wine knowledge and they have one of the best wine lists in town and trust me the lowest prices for wine in the City. Prices were around 1.5 to 2X retail as they should be. They won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2018 and they more than deserve it. In my opinion their wine program should be a Grand Award winner. The wine manager Sean Agaj gave me a tour of their temperature controlled wine cellar and their selections are vast. The food was excellent, great seafood selections prepared with distinction and as ordered. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing and again some of the best service I have had in a while. Benjamin's may not be the most famous Steakhouse in NYC but I can assure you it is one of the best and we will return next year. We thought the price was moderate and well worth what we received. The service was so good I left a 30% tip for the 2nd or 3rd time in my life.

BEST STEAK IN NYC

Great food , service and friendly staff....Benjamin himself makes frequent vibists to his restaurant and found him a nice guy!!!

Special Birthday Dinner at Benjamin Steakhouse Prime

By pepper232018 |

We had a birthday reservation for two and received a warm, friendly greeting from the receptionist who seated us right away. The steak house menu is diversified enough to satisfy non steak eaters and the many selections made it difficult to choose from the appetizers, salads and varieties of meat. The shrimp cocktail was colossal and the Caesar salad was really good. Our porterhouse for two came out medium-rare just as we ordered it. There were also generous servings of side dishes. We had creamless creamed spinach and onion rings. We enjoyed very professional, very attentive service from beginning tend. Water and wine glasses constantly re-filled. The final bill was what you would expect from a first class NYC Steak House. It was well worth it. No negatives really. Highly recommended.

Best NYE

Great Wedding Venue!

By Tim K |

We had our wedding reception here this past weekend, and the Benjamin Prime staff knocked it out of the park! The food, ambience, and servers were amazing! Many guests have commented that this was the best meal they've ever had at a wedding. From hor d'oeuvre to appetizers to entrees and desserts and wines recommended by their wine experts, each stage never ceased to overwhelm our guests with joy and disbelief at the quality and quantity of the food laid before them. All of our guests left fat and happy with smiles from ear to ear. Thanks again Adam, Chris, Sean, and the entire Benjamin Prime staff for a truly memorable wedding night!

Great steak and great service

By Anonthego |

We dined here on a Saturday night . We were greeted and seated promptly . Try the love potion 21/3 . Ordered a salad and two steaks the bone in prime top and wagyu strip both delicious and prepared perfectly. Highly recommend this place if you’re in nyc .

Good, but not what we hoped to have...

By Domenico I |

Everything was very fast. We came with the idea to eat a porterhouse but ended up with a special tomahawk... a mistake...

Second worst steakhouse experience.

By Dewey |

It’s become a tradition for the last 25 years to go to one or two steakhouses every time I’m in NYC. I’m always on the hunt for an excellent steak. This past trip I was talked into going to Benjamin Prime and unfortunately it made it to my second worst steakhouse experience in NYC. We should have immediately left when the waiter gave us major attitude before we even ordered, but we didnt. I also want to point out that we were never rude at any point. For a high end steakhouse I thought they had a poor selection of bold red wines by the glass. The bread service tasted like it was purchased at a supermarket in a plastic bag. The steaks were overcooked and tough. They were so dry that no juices were visible when you cut into the steak. I waited for the server so I could point out that my steak was well done rather than medium/rare but he didnt stop by the table for another 15-20 minutes at which point he noticed the untouched steak and asked if everything was cooked to my liking. After showing the dry steaks to the waiter he apologized that they did not meet our expectations and left. 5 minutes later he dropped the bill at the table without saying a word. We were so annoyed at this point, we hadnt eaten but a few nibbles while we waited, there was no offer to re-cook our steaks, and we were being charged full price for the over dry steaks that we did not eat. Looking back, the one thing that makes me the most upset is that I tipped 20% because I always do. This customer service was the worst and it was exacerbated by how management didnt get involved. We spent $500 for food that we didnt eat and we didnt even get a THANK YOU as we walked out. not by anyone! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I will never ever go back to Benjamin Steakhouse Prime

Steak and Bake baby!

Gave Benjamins a try as it was so close to our Hotel (Andaz). Expect proper old school service and attention to detail. Benjamins was a great find! The Prawn starter (which we're still talking about), Crab Cakes and the Steaks themselves, were all fantastic - cannot reminisce without actually salivating! We sat upstairs, and the service was very attentive but not over the top Highly recommend Benjamins, and when we return to NYC we will be sure to visit again - Thanks!!

Never been treylike that in my life

We reserved a place for 8pm on a Wednesday to celebrate our last day in New York. We have arrived 15min ahead of time and registered with the host. Saying our table will be ready shortly. 45 min later and only after I asked to see the manager (which they "could not find") I was told our table will be ready shortly. The bar was over crowded with a group that celebrated something and the whole restaurant was super noisy, no one bothered to ask them to quite down. One I left the host said "they we're looking for us a while ago" which is an out right a lie as we we're standing in front of her the whole time and twice came to check on the status of our table. I don't know if the steaks are good here. They definitely not worth such experience. Will never come back.

Great Food

By Blanco Nieve |

This was an amazing place for dinner, the steak was great and the swordfish was amazing! Thanks to the Ritin, our concierge from the NoMo SoHo, we decided to venture to the Benjamin Prime and not to Peter Luger - which is where we had originally wanted to go. And we were so happy we listened to his advise.

Popular with the business crowd

I attended a group dinner at Benjamin’s and they did not disappoint. The service was good and the food was excellent. The ribeye is huge and was cooked perfectly. The restaurant was very busy which is a testament to the food. I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner or just stopping by for a cocktail.

Fabulous Meal and Service

By Mike H |

It was my wife’s birthday. We were recommended Benjamin Steakhouse Prime by the concierge at the Marriott Marquis. There were seven of us and from the time we stepped inside the restaurant to the time we left, we felt the hospitality of the staff. Our server recommended a family style meal with the shared porterhouse and the ribeye steaks with 3 sides (outstanding meal.) We finished our 2 plus hour meal with three desserts and and coffee. Benjamin’s is expensive but worth every dollar. They also have a very extensive wine list.

Fabulous!

Our family of four had the pleasure of dining at Benjamin Prime while visiting NYC this week. Our dinner was absolutely delicious! Steaks were cooked to perfection. Our servers were both friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back!

Thanksgiving Steak

We enjoyed ourselves it was me and my boyfriend, we had the sirloin steaks and had two meals from the leftovers. We had a nice NYC dining experience, I was in the parade and had a wonderful day!

Father’s Day Dining

By DadMD |

The steak is memorable, perfectly done. The bacon is sinful. The home fries can be ordered extra crispy, my personal recommendation. Sit upstairs if you can, more room and very quiet. The service is excellent. Get the wine list if for no other reason than to drool over the incredible selection, then get a reasonably priced bottle., or go high end (&price). Was a wonderful Father’s Day dinner.

Luncheon

By AustinnBoston |

Not to be confused with Benjamin one block up but eventually went to correct location for lunch with UK colleagues. The atmosphere is clean and bright and the place was full. We ordered shrimp cocktails, caprese salad and bacon for appetizers. All were good but the bacon was out of this world! For lunch ordered the full sized prime rib cooked medium and again so amazingly good! Side dishes of asparagus, fries and mushrooms. All were really good although the mushrooms were a bit heavy with garlic. Also shared a slice of pecan pie with ice cream. It has been three days since I was there and I’m still thinking about our meal. The prime rib was really perfection and our service was excellent.

Great Steak!

By Jadecat |

We ate here on a recent visit to NYC on the recommendation of our concierge. The service was great, the Benjamin Soup we had as a starter (a vegetable soup) was wonderful and the steaks were huge, perfectly cooked and delicious. We didn’t have room for dessert. The atmosphere was a cross between sophisticated and men’s club. Our only complaint was that it was incredibly crowded. We had reservations and had to wait about 15 minutes. That didn’t bother us at all, in fact we kind of expected it. What was irritating was that there was no where TO wait. The entrance was a narrow hallway. At the end is the check in podium and the coat check area. Then you are in the bar area/restaurant/a stairway. There were a number of people waiting and we were all in the way but had no where else to go. I felt sorry for the staff carrying trays and trying to do their jobs. There was also the feeling that as many tables as possible had been squeezed in. This made for a very noisy, non-intimate dining experience. We lucked into seating way to the side on the 2nd floor, so it wasn’t too bad, but I would have hated to be at some of the tables. My suggestion would be to thin out the tables at the bar and use some of the space around the bar as a waiting area. Also, a few less tables, especially in the hallway on the 2nd floor, would dramatically improve the ambience. It is for that reason I did not give it a perfect score. As I said, however, the food and service were great.

Good but steak quite ordinary

By Nigel G |

I asked the hotel I was staying at to find me an exceptional steak restaurant. The made me a reservation here. Prawn starter was excellent with Jumbo prawns. I had to wait a while despite having a reservation. Restaurant seemed very crowded but it was ok - I had a table. Waiter was attentive and the service was good. Steak was nice but nothing special as I had hoped for, quite ordinary.

A Classic Steakhouse Experience in New York City

THE Best Steakhouse in NYC

By Cao H |

I went to Benjamin Steakhouse Prime for the NYC restaurant week special lunch. I had been to Benjamin Steakhouse at 41 St. (inside of Dylan Hotel) with my friend and his family about 5 years old. The restaurant was dark and cramped, we sat in the bar area for drinks, then we moved to the table. I remembered that we had Porterhouse for two and some side dishes. The meat was so delicious and so sizzling that it was quite an unusual experience for me. The meat tasted much better than the meat I tasted at Peter Luger Steakhouse (my Porterhouse at Peter Luger was burnt so badly, it turned completely black that I could not really taste anything but charcoal). At Benjamin Steakhouse, I had only one piece but it filled me up with a lasting memory. Later, I studied about its history, the restaurateur Benjamin Prelvukaj and chef Arturo McLeod (a Peter Luger’s alumnus) started this Benjamin Steakhouse in 2006. Within a few short years, they secured its top echelon status among NYC steakhouses, with additional 4 more restaurants: Benjamin Steakhouse (41 St), Benjamin Steakhouse Prime (40 St), Benjamin Steakhouse (Hartsdale, Westchester), Benjamin Steakhouse (Japan) and The Sea Fire Grill (48 St). This time, only Benjamin’s newer restaurant called Benjamin Steakhouse Prime (they are just one block away from the older one) had the NYC restaurant week menu. Benjamin Steakhouse Prime’s ambiance was bright, with modern and chic in deco. The distances between the tables were comfortable and spacious. I tried restaurant week menu: First course was Jumbo Lump Crabcake. I think it was great, Jumbo and Lump was an accurate description of the dish. My second course was USDA Prime Junior New York Sirloin Steak with vegetable and potatoes. It was too big a meal for me, I had to take the half steak and side food home. All for $31.00, it was a fantastic deal, thanks to NYC restaurant week. Don’t miss it.

Excellent!

Classic NY Steakhouse

Classic New York Steakhouse- high energy, noisy, delicious food and excellent service. We love the original Benjamins Steakhouse but had never been to Prime- the Benjamin group does it right.

Very high quality meat, some flaws in the service

By Roberto |

In this very beautiful and well-kept place you can eat truly exceptional meat, the prices obviously rise as always along with the quality, so I find that they are more than fair, the only flaw when it came to the bill was that I wasn't able to pay with Apple Pay , telling me that their systems were old, I think that for a restaurant of this level it is truly absurd, also sometimes the waiters did not know exactly where to stand, this can often create an inconvenience.

Plenty of better steak places in NYC

By HiddenGem22 |

Steak is always better with friends. We are a large group that get together quite frequently for steak. This place had wonderful service. The staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. The sides were all delicious and the bacon for starter was to diiieeee for! I’d go back for the bacon 🤭 Hate to say it, but the steak was just ‘pretty good’. We all eat medium rare and ordered a mix of porterhouse steaks and bone in rib eye. I’m not a good pro but my main issue would be that the steak wasn’t seasoned properly and the sear on it was too much that it made it more chewy than melt in your mouth. I’ll stick with my other handful of fave steak places in Manhattan where I’m never disappointed. 🐄

Prime Perfect Steakhouse in New York Manhattan

By BeLu London |

A third visit to the Prime branch of Benjamins for Mrs BeLu’s birthday, was no disappointment. Attentive and professional service, perfectly cooked steak, I recommend the Porterhouse for 2, and scallops were to die for. Now, it’s not cheap here, but you definitely get what you pay for. Perfect for a special treat we will be back!
