I have been to Pho restaurants all over California. With that reference point, this is one of the cleanest, freshest and best. What a surprising find - we have told our friends and will go back frequently.

I'm not an expert on Vietnamese food, nor could I tell you what is or isn't authentic, but I can tell you the food here is fantastic. Everything we ate was flavorful and satisfying. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

I do not usually review local. I save my reviews for travel. But I was so pleased with this place I had to recommend. The food was outstanding. The service was excellent and on top of that it was reasonable. So far the travelers, it is not too far from Fiesta Texas and UTSA and pretty close to the Medical Center. Literally everything was delicious. The Pho, the Bun, the egg roll and the taro that was given to us at the end of the meal. We have been trying Pho around San Antonio and this is by far the best one we have found so far and I think it will be hard to beat.

Really great food! The service is always speedy friendly and helpful. I love coming here. Also a great atmosphere! And i feel like everything is priced very reasonably. Plus its so worth it because its so delicious!!!

Had several different dishes at this restaurant, all good. Parking lot is small with a limited number of parking spaces. Restaurant is clean and the service good.

Love it!!!! First time we visit and I am definitely going back .... For starters you get a small bowl of soups sizes and portions are great price is not bad considering the portions and their food is delicious at the end they give you a small bowl of Thai pudding, very delicious overall great experience coming back

First time eating here during lunch-- It was so good that we came back for dinner. The chicken pho tasted clean- meaning it's not too salty or chemically. Other pho that I have tasted has an instant flavoring. After eating the pho, I didn't have any stomach bloatness - compare to others. Any how- great price!!!! I ordered the small pho and it's the perfect serving - it only costs $6 something. I'm planning of eating there during my 3 day staycation.

This was my first visit with my husband. We were seated at a long table and as the place filled up there were other patrons seated right next to us sharing the same table. There are some smaller tables for 4 people as well. I liked the ambiance and the red flowers decorating the tables. The portion sizes are rather large and the food was delicious. They have 4 sizes of bowls for pho and they are displayed in the window of the kitchen. Our lunch meal came with a small cup of broth and ended with a dessert, which we thought was a nice touch.

Glad one of my co-workers introduced me to this little gem. Like most amazing places, this may look unassuming but the food is incredible. Clean environment, excellent food, and family owned. Highly recommend it.

Great food Excellent service Dumpling appetizer was perfect I had a crispy noodle dish with combination chicken, beef and shrimp...Great flavors. Service was fast and very kind. Place was spotless!

Decided to check this place out for lunch today. Host refused to seat us because my husband is a disabled vet who requires the use of a service dog. Would only serve us if we "sat outside" in near freezing temperatures. Truly appalling (not to mention) illegal discrimination. Will be filing a complaint with the DOJ.

Tried out this restaurant after seeing good reviews in the paper and other places for several months - I've been there 8 times in the last month or so, and kick myself for not trying sooner. Their pho is really, really good - not too salty, good flavor, just the right amount of meat, noodles, and sprouts. I've also enjoyed the pork banh-mi, the pork fried rice, and the pork vermicelli bowl, but my hands-down favorite remains the pho.

First time coming to this place and I will be back. It is a little off the beaten path ,but well worth it. I had the charbroiled steak pho it was absolutely amazing. Do Not miss out on this little gem.

I came to check this place out while in San Antonio with my family. I have a few favorite Vietnamese restaurants throughout the country. My first impression was smaller portions than I have been served at the other restaurants but the food had good flavor. I am still hungry so I guess I’ll get a pizza from next door.

i had a bowl of Berni's Pho and it was amazing! Prices are a bit high but so worth it! I also highly recommend the crab ragoon appetizer. Their winter melon boba tea is to die for!

I was raving about this place last summer. I haven’t been able to return due to distance. My husband and I finally decided to come back and order the chicken pho. What happened? It was so bland. I hope it was just a one time thing. Sadly, I will not be coming back.

This is a very good place to have Vietnamese food. And this is how my Vietnamese friend told me you know you are in a good Vietnamese restaurant, you don't have to ask for condiments, do you want extra fish sauce there it is in the table, chili oil yeap on the table, spring roll should come with a mixed vegetables plate, lettuce, mint, basil. This place has it all for you on the table so you can enjoy your meal the way you like it.

Small, family operation. Large, diverse menu. Great service. I had French inspired Bo Luc Lac, which is a peppered cube steak. Colleague had Pad Thai, more than he could handle. Followed up with a warm purple tapioca. Close to Med Center.

Have tried various Vietnam restaurants in San Antonio. This place ranks right up there both in food quality and service. Try the Berni egg rolls and the crispy salmon both are winners.

We really like Asian cuisine. Decided to try this establishment after several favorable reviews in the newspaper that came across as objective. Not fancy, but fresh, clean with background music that does not make casual conversation either a task or impossible. Communal tables are about half of the seating available. We sat at one end of a communal table (note: smaller tables are placed at the windows and at the time of day we were there, the sun was blazing) with one customer at the other far end. Not a issue at all. You are served the house pho (soup) as soon as you are seated. Menu is extensive and variable--good in our opinion. Both of our entrees were excellent. Generous servings, so plan on a to-go box or sharing. House dessert is also standard. I was skeptical since it is purple and the only purple dish I have ever encountered was poi in Hawaii, which I perceived as flat awful! However, my wife had eaten at this restaurant once before and encouraged me to try the dessert. Half of her crew of friends thought it was great; the other half did not care for it. My opinion--not bad at all. A bit on the sweet side and warm, which for some reason took me slightly by surprise. Service attentive and appropriate. No service/table checks. You just go to the register when you are ready to leave and they pull up your tab for review and payment (table numbering system). Not expensive, but not cheap--average entree $11-$15. We will definitely return and try other entries on the menu.

Came with brother and father visiting from out of the country, they start you off with a complimentary broth which it really good, I ordered the vermicelli bowl 19.a and it was super delicious. My dad wanted the soft spring rolls but accidentally ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls which are fried. The gentleman that took our order was very understanding and let us change the dish out for the correct dish. I was really appreciative for that, and to top it off you get a complimentary dessert! Will definitely be back and highly recommend it! complimentary broth which it really good, I ordered the vermicelli bowl 19.a and it was super delicious. My step daughter recommended this place to celebrate her Dad's Birthday. The place was clean, neat and had great atmosphere! The tables were set for two to four or be moved together to accommodate a larger party. the wait staff was great and the food was extraordinaire. They start you off with a small soup, included in the meal! Our group ordered ;Pho Beef Soup, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Chicken Vermicelli and Beef and Noodles. Everyone was happy with their dish! At the end they conclude with a purple gel, I forget the name, but I thought that it was like Tapioca, it was the bomb, a great way to end a delicious meal. It too was included in the meal! My recommendation, when you are in San Antonio, try to include this place on you places to eat! I tried it and I liked it!

This review is for lunch on 3/11/17. FINALLY--I found a restaurant in San Antonio that has the true flavors of Viet Nam. I lived in Hue and for some time I've wanted to be able to close my eyes, take a bite and be back in Viet Nam. That happened at Berni's today. My two great loves are pho and bahn mi. My friend ordered the pho, I the grilled pork bahn mi. The pho broth had body, something so often missing. It was appropriately spiced although a tad bit salty for my taste but not so much so that I would lower my rating to 4 stars. The amount of meat (rare steak and meatballs) was very generous with the other ingredients in proper proportion. Besides the usual condiments, a small bottle of fish sauce was thoughtfully provided. The bahn mi was a work of art! The pork was juicy with a very nice smokey flavor from the grill. It was served with the typical shredded carrots and sliced cucumbers. The roll was excellent--they're made by a local bakery and it's toasted a bit on the flat top to add a crisp counterpoint the the soft interior. The dipping sauce that accompanied the sandwich was quite tasty (it's the same sauce used for vermicelli bowls) and proved to be an excellent addition as was the simple but wonderful Asian slaw. I ate some and put the rest on the sandwich--YUM!!! They also follow Vietnamese tradition of serving, at no extra cost, a delicious clear (like consomme) vegetable soup for starters and a tasty coconut flavored thin pudding (served warm) with boba (tapioca pearls) for dessert. I have found no other restaurant that follows this custom and it was very much appreciated. The restaurant interior is bright and cheerful with lighted trees and branches and a TV that plays a continuous loop of a waterfall. If you're stressed, a few minutes looking at that will relax you. Service is very friendly and efficient; couldn't be better. I live in Kerrville, about 50 miles to the northwest, and will happily drive the distance when the urge for superb Vietnamese food strikes! So, if you want the real deal, please visit Berni's; you will be amply rewarded!

Small restaurant, friendly service, good food. Not being a Vietnamese food expert, I liked the food: light and low fat. Nice little soup and dessert included in my plate. Will come back to try other plates.

Very clean and bright place, delicious bun, good service , not as fast service as most Vietnamese restaurants but ok, good prices

The Pho is packed with flavor and super fresh!! The excellent service is what takes this place to 5 stars! Everything is fresh! I love the clean modern environment

Great place! Been going since 2016. Haven't been lately. The only thing that changed was the appetizer soup/dish, which was a small bowl of a lemony cilantro[ish] soup? It was so tasty and cleansing that it got one ready for their delicious entrées. Regrettably, they changed it to some kinda chicken soup. I mentioned it to the attendants, but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. And actually denied having ever served such an appetizer. Sad.

You are given a small bowl of soup to start. If you don;t like cilatro, then you might not like it. It does have quite a lot in it. I just take them out of my soup. My husband ordered the bbq chicken rice dish. It was pretty good. I ordered the pork lemongrass rice dish. What a mistake. Avoid this dish. It was very greasy. I could see the pork swimming in the oil. The pork pieces were on the fatty side. Then for dessert, they give you (free) a taro tapioca soup which was very good. It's not too sweet and it was warm. The dessert was the best part of my meal. Price wasn't expensive at all. Service average, ambience very bright and welcoming with jazz playing in the background. I think if you avoid the pork dish that I had, you might be fine.

They served a soup and a small sweet surprise with our meal. The food was some of the best Asian meals we have shared in a while. If your in the medical center area and looking for some delicious filling vermicelli or pork fried rice this is the place to be. Highly recommend. The picture below was the pad tai that we couldn't finish, but did take home to eat later.

First time here. We have been searching for a for a good Vietnamese place in SA. Tasty food. Clean. Good service! We'll be back.

I'm pretty picky about the Vietnamese dish Bun, and this place has some of the best I've ever eaten! Perfect blend of flavors and a generous portion, too. I had it with the lemon grass tofu. As an added bonus, you get a flavorful broth as an appetizer with your meal, plus a dessert. One time it was a tapioca dish and another time it was a gelatin (not jello- it was very firm and thin, vanilla flavor). And the restaurant is absolutely spotlessly clean & bright. A must try if you're looking for the clean, fresh taste of authentic Vietnamese cuisine!

We have eaten here twice and been very pleased with our food both times. Great service and many choices on the menu.
Order # 40
Really busy, really tasty from real humble people. Please treat yourself to my new favorite dish fondly known as #40. It's real name is Mi Xao Don but #40 is much easier to remember.
