Love this place. Server was great. Food was great...and it is super convenient to the hotel my girl and I like to stay at when we visit NYC...Not only that but it's decorated very cool, and is a great place for a work dinner or a "Power Date"...lol Highly recommend stopping in for dinner and afterward head downstairs the little speakeasy style place below street level (believe it's the same owner) and check some epic Billy Joel tunes played by another real "piano man" while you sip cocktails with your significant other and listen to some great live music....It's a quintessentially NYC haunt for sure....

I have always loved Bill's! The food is good and the historic space is quintessential New York. The tomato soup special was great today, rich and a little spicy, really wonderful on a cold day. The grilled salmon was seasoned and cooked perfectly!

We didn't eat here, just went in for drinks, as it was across the street from our hotel. Pictures of boxers and other sportsmen line the walls. A piano-player/singer in a jazzy sort of style was the entertainment. He knew so many songs. The owner used to know many famous boxers and told entertaining stories.

Enjoyed the "throwback" atmosphere of this once residential space. Menu options are wide and quality is outstanding. Especially liked the salmon burger and truffle fries.

We did not eat there, we went just for some drinks. The piano-player/singer was a must and the songs unforgettable. A great atmosphere, certainly worth a visit.

Bill's is always a favorite lunch spot for a delicious burger and fries. It is always clean, and the staff is always courteous. THE FOOD IS GREAT!

A little restaurant but big value and big history. The cooking was homestyle, and full of flavor. It was a nice change compared to the fast food choices around or the over the top elegance that left you still hungry. The service was great. Meeting Barbara and Jack was such a joy and to learn of the history and see the pictures in this establishment. This is a wonderful place to have a quiet meal in the fast paced city.

great little bar with a fabulous relaxed feel and good service great drinks. had the french fries which were really good and the martinis were flowing. i highly recommend this place to stop in after work. frequented by Jeffries folks.

An amazing throwback setting on the main floor with beautiful furniture and decor with dark, mahogany like walls... but the wine, starting with a nice Far Niente Chardonnay over grilled octopus and a beet salad was delightful, followed by Branzino (wife) and bone-in filet (me) with a nice Italian Amarone was so delightful and relaxing. A side of sauteed Brussel sprouts completed our healthy fine dining experience. The servers were excellent.

Whilst located in a lovely old townhouse it failed to deliver a great dining experience. We had lunch there and were disappointed with the service and the food The Oyster's Natural special were tasteless and watery - very disappointing Beet & Endive salad with Goats Cheese - served without any cheese (which was provided after we pointed out the absence of one of the listed ingredients) We weren't offered anything other than overpriced water ($9 a bottle for still or sparkling served in carafes so no idea what brand it was) - would have been nice to enjoy a wine with our meal We wouldn't go back - there are too many other good dining options in the area

We had lunch here in the upstairs dining area and it was very good. Service was pleasant even though they did mistake one item, although no offer to change, just an oh, sorry...

Had business lunch here recently. Great old-school, warm decor in what feels like a historic building hidden in the middle of Midtown. Lot of great choices for lunch, whether you prefer fish or meat. Tables not too close together, so you can actually hear each other talk. Recommended this for a client dinner, and they said they had a great time -- loved the location and the food.

We found this restaurant to have very high quality food, alcohol, and service. The building itself is beautiful. We found the atmosphere to be cozy and romantic but still refined.

We were staying around the corner at the Omni Berkshire and wanted to try a restaurant that was nearby and had a highly rated piano/bar. The food was outstanding, including the Beef Wellington. Service was impeccable on the second floor, where we were surrounded by lovely portraits and paintings on the walls and a comfortable level of quiet conversation.

Bill's Townhouse is exactly that, a very old and historic bit of old New York, with an informal bar downstairs, and a men's club-like leather banquette atmosphere upstairs, with what must be 13 foot ceilings and walls filled with old paintings and photos. I hosted a dinner for 5 and we had a round banquette at the back. The table was a bit too high to enjoy as you sank into the banquette too deeply. I ordered a soup special, a roast tomato with bits of crabmeat. It had cream in it, and was a bit too heavy, but tasty. My friends had caesar salads. My main was a grilled salmon on a bed of haricot verts in a delicious leek sauce. I asked for it medium rare, and it was excellent. Unfortunately, all the dishes are overpriced by about $10 The salmon was $36. It took a really long time for our main courses to arrive. Others had a crab cake, shrimp cocktail - 4 jumbo shrimp for $24! The least expensive bottle of wine was $60. The short ribs got a good review. The service was too cloying, refilling water glasses when they were just a bit low, etc. We chose not to have dessert or coffee, and still, with tax and tip, the bill was $416 for 5.

A small bar that gets very crowded after work. With the corwd, it can be noisy but a good small New York bar

This just appears to be known as "Bill's". There is a restaurant upstairs but we didn't investigate this, so I can't speak for that (I see that a lot of the reviews here are for that part of the establishment). We came here after dinner, following a recommendation from Lonely Planet. It was a nice place to hang out but I think this place really liven's up later on in the evening (we were jet-lagged so left about 11pm). The bar was well stocked. The scotch is fairly pricey so just beware. We ordered a couple of scotches and the barman let us taste some of the others too. I loved the atmosphere and decor of the old speakeasy it used to be, and hope hey preserve this! Great musicians; they were talented and friendly and had good interaction with the crowd. Drinks are a bit pricey but you're paying for the entertainment and atmosphere, so I think it's worth it. Would definitely come back again for a nightcap.

For midtown the restaurant is not too noisy so business can be conducted. Menu is average, soup was served lukewarm. Service was fair. Go for location and ability to carry on a conversation.

We booked this restaurant from the UK before travelling. We were after an authentic New York steak meal for our last night. The first impression is interesting as you enter via the basement piano bar and then go upstairs to the restaurant. The dining room is a beautiful old townhouse parlour and the classic menu fits the surroundings. Yes we had steak, and it was perfectly cooked - this is the first time I've had fillet steak on the bone and it was wonderfully tender. OK, it's maybe not the cheapest place in town but for a special occasion, and this was, it's well worth a visit.

The facilities are more like a British pub - downstairs they have a great bar with live music and upstairs the Restaurant room is with proper tablecloth and a quality menu. You should go for the “classics”. The Maine lobster was perfectly cooked and half a lobster makes an excellent starter. I went for the Montana sourced ribeye on the bone for main course - and it was exquisite! Great service as well. Quality place with the right balance of being relaxed and still upmarket.

Filet- mignon cooked to perfection. Cheesy potatoes! Spinach! Everything here is top notch. Not cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for. Really couldn't have asked for more. Cant remember the guy who served us, but he was the best waiter I have ever been served by. He charged us for 2 bottles of wine, instead of 2 glasses. I'm only mentioning this because if his boss is reading this, he really is a credit to your restaurant. So if you ask your staff who billed us for 2 bottles instead of glasses he will come forward, and then you can praise him! Thankyou.

The atmospere of this restaurant is as if you are dining in a private home 100 years ago. Wait staff was welcoming and very attentative. The food was very good with more than adequate portions. We had the crab cakes, steak tartare, veal and porcini meatballs, Bill's Burger, fried chicken cutlet and truffle mac and cheese. Located just 1 block form 5th Ave. between Madison and Park and 3 blocks from St. Patrick's Cathedral. Will definitely return here again, especially for dinner to enjoy the steaks they are famous for.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner in this old mansion with lots of vintage interior decor. The waiting staff was great and the food excellent. Great choice of wines too! Downstairs is also a cosy bar with a piano Player. A very unique and charming place to spend an evening!

Brilliant! Enjoy your meal as the Piano Player plays but be prepared to singalong at some point. Great bar/restaurant, lots of New Yorkers after work enjoying a cocktail and music hour. I look forward to my next trip to go back!

This place is a must-visit for anyone visiting New York.. we visited 3 times and we were only in New York for 5 days! Everything we tried was delicious, especially the lamb and the noodles 😊 The staff were so friendly and welcoming, I cannot wait to go to New York so that I can visit again!

Salads were overpriced, service was moderate at best.

If Disney took over Bill's Gay Nineties this would be it. The food is way over priced and very limited for lunch. For dinner if you are going to pay $40 for a steak there are better places. My table of 4 all felt our meals were average or slighly above. 2 of the 4 felt they won't last here. My meal was the steak salad. It was okay. The meat was a little more rare than the medium I asked for. The greens were fresh. My dessert was the bourbon pudding. It was tasty but it came out so late that the coffee they served me first was empty and they don't ask you if you want a refill. My friends had the Prime Rib sandwiches. I miss the old Bill's. I doubt I'll go back to this one.

Located on 54th Street between Madison and Park Avenues, this little place has very good food. The shrimp cocktail is probably the best one in the city. Other fare ranges from regular dinner entrees to hamburgers and sandwiches. Open both for lunch and dinner, its very accessible and the food is delicious..

I took my 2 teenage sons here for a guys' dinner as part of their Christmas. It was quiet and the atmosphere was intimate and classy. The dry aged steaks were wonderful and prepared perfectly. The appetizers and sides were very tasty. All in all Bills was a great albeit slightly expensive meal but worth a splurge I. The big apple.

Had dinner here on our last night in New York City. We stayed across the road in the lovely Hotel Elysee and were looking for something other than just burgers and fries. We were not disappointed when we saw we were able to order the best steak and chicken dinners with real vegetables. It is not cheap but it is good quality food and wine. The 14 ounce steak could have been shared and the perfectly cooked chicken also a very generous serve. We had a bit of an issue when we looked at our global debit card the next day and saw a double entry and an incorrect amount. We were already at JFK airport and on our way back home and initially felt that we had been rorted. I emailed Bills Townhouse explaining the anomaly and was pleased to have received an immediate response from the manager, Michel Ryan Lukas who said he would investigate and get back to me. True to his word he identified where a server(waiter) had inadvertently processed someone else’s bill against my card. The additional entry was my bill excluding the tip. Michel kept me updated by email and I could see that the situation was being rectified. The banks move slowly and so while it took a while to reverse the over payment I was assured by Michel. He even gave me his direct phone number in case I needed to discuss. On arrival back home all had been rectified and pending payments reversed. I contacted Michel Lukas and thanked him for his professionalism. In summary, the meal and service was second to none and what could have been a sour end to our trip to New York was in fact a good news story. I would highly recommend Bills Townhouse and hope to visit again.

This was a cool spot suggested via Open Table. They are the only ones who knew about it - Friday night and only 10 people in the dining room. The bellmen, doorman, nor Uber drivers had ever heard of it. That said, the style was 1924 townhouse cool. The beef Wellington is made in the full traditional style (foie gras included) but $75 seemed steep. The baked clams and veal Milanese were just average. The service was excellent. Check out the on-line menu and pricing first, so no surprises.

Lovely Townhouse restaurant. Stairs might be a bit dark and steep for some. The appetisers were fine. Nothing to write home about, I'm afraid. The baked clams were cooked well and well seasoned. The lobster bisque was a bit too strong in tomato flavour and this overpowered the rich lobster flavour. It might be too piquant for some but nevertheless a tasty soup, just not what I would call a tasty lobster bisque. Came here to try the beef Wellington. Superbly cooked. Not sure how it rates in NYC but compared to The Savoy Grill in London, they are right up there. The only difference is that the beef wasn't flavoured as well. Don't get me wrong. The filet of beef was superbly cooked, a nice medium rare but the beef itself just wasn't as wonderfully flavoured. Maybe it has to do with the duxelle. There was the right amount though. Bill's noodles and strip was also a delightful discovery. It is too al denté for my taste but that is just a personal preference. The sauce on it was rich and deep and really pairs well with the noodles and ricotta. Sides were mixed. The fried mushrooms were delightfully seasoned and deep with mushroom flavour but the garlic mash was woefully lacking in garlic, butter and cream. That needs fixing. All in all a very pleasant dining experience. Service is impeccable. No complaints. Will definitely return. If possible get a table on the side. The floor boards vibrate movement every time the servers are walking back and forth and you really notice it after awhile and once you do, it detracts from your dining experience.

History! romantic! easy choices! This one ticks all the boxes for a lovely dinner to celebrate someone special or YOU!

Although Bill's Gay Nineties was once a "must visit" whenever I was in New York -- a unique, neighborhood gem with lively, quirky entertainment -- on a recent stop I saw that the name has been changed to just "Bill's". I'm not sure if that is an indication that the bar has changed hands or management, but gone was the warm, welcoming environment that I loved so much. In its place was an impatient and disinterested bartender, and an extremely rude waitress. My sister and I felt very unwelcome - we stayed maybe 10 minutes, leaving our just purchased drinks on an empty table. Very sad, but I'll never go back.

We ordered the prefix dinner and started with the cauliflower soup with a scallop crostini. The soup was very hot and very flavorful, although the scallop was salty. We also had a caesar salad which was excellent. For our main course we had the chicken, steak with truffle fries, and pork chop. Although the pork chop arrived undercooked, it was quickly taken back and prepared again. The steak had a nice flavor but one was too salty. The chicken was very good and the pork was also very good. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake.

Monday afternoon, December 26. The place is empty. The Bartender very friendly. A quiet cheese plate..... We talked about the history of the place. I wandered around taking pictures of pictures, thinking about NYC. Lovely, quiet afternoon.

The Baked Eggplant and Shells, and the Kale Gratin, were delicious! This re-do of Bill's Gay Nineties has a stately and cozy dining room on the 2nd floor. Seating is a bit tight, but not crowded. Good selection of apps and entrees.

Had a great meal at Bills on our first night in NYC. We had been shopping all day at Woodbury so wanted something close to the hotel. I was very pleasantly surprised to see my favourite Australian wine on the menu. The waitress even organised a bottle for me as it usually is sold by the glass. Our meal was great, we shared everything. Service was super friendly and efficient.

Came here for a business lunch after walking past it many times. Stupendously beautiful inside. At least three floors of old school dining. We were on the third floor. Service is terrific. Food is fabulous. Biggest appetizer portion of squid I have ever had. All in my group of six seemed to really enjoy their meal. Because of the three floors we also were not near other loud groups and it was ideal for a large group business lunch. I won't hesitate to return.

We were staying across the street in the Hotel Elysee, so very convenient location for us to have supper. Nice atmostphere, and knowledgeable staff. Food was very good overall.

This is a must for me on any visit to NYC. Good Food, great atmosphere, great service (sorry I can't remember the name of the sweet Irish waitress) and the best piano bar anywhere. In an old, historic, speakeasy where you're made to feel like one of the locals. Piano Player/entertainer Elliot Paul can play any and every thing you would ever want to hear - just telling him where I was from he launched into "Sweet Home Alabama", "Stars fell on Alabama", and any and every song I could mention. He and the staff make this a really fun time.

0 friends 4 reviews Tab T. Philadelphia, PA 1/26/2015 Went for a private party (12 of us). Sat upstairs in 2 unique, cool rooms. One was a bar where we had cocktails first, then the other was for dinner with a long table. Both rooms just for us. Food excellent, service excellent. Loved atmosphere , especially for our friends birthday, it was very masculine . Great night!

We just want to say a big thank-you to all of the staff at Bills Townhouse for their excellent service and hospitality for our wedding lunch in their private dining room on September 19th. There were 18 people in our party and every guest commented on how good the food was. The drinks service from all staff was also excellent. We would definitely recommend this venue.

Porterhouse for 2 one of the best we have had. Sides were forgetful. Our waitress had 3 big tables, so we were forgotten. Steak was plopped on table by a busboy. No bernaise sauce. There is no excuse for poor service, when you pay top dollar

Expensive mid town ny restaurant. Simple lunch cost with tip and tax $160 plus. Mainly driven by high alcohol prices. For the two of us 2 drinks each were $65. My colleague had the salad wedge and the turkey sandwich while I had a burger. We finished with a capuccino each. One annoying policy is not to sit anyone until the full party arrives. I arrived first and had to wait in the lobby until my colleague arrived. They wanted to send me to the bar but I refused. If they seated me would have ordered a drink while waiting. Maybe I'm being petty but it was annoying. I was not alone others who arrived were also sent to the bar. Good location but not sure I would return

Just opposite the Hotel Elysee, where we were staying is one of the best restaurants around. We hadn't booked but the hotel made a reservation for us.this is obviously a restaurant used by business people so the atmosphere was quiet which suited the four of us,Very good service and a good choice of wines by the glass. Both fish and meat was enjoyed by our party and now we have found Bills we will not forget it.

We had dinner at Bill's Townhouse on Thursday 9/28/17 and had a wonderful meal. We ordered the bone in ribeye which was cooked perfectly with a fabulous Pittsburgh crust. Instead of potatoes, we ordered the house made noodles which were incredible and the asparagus with hollandaise. Our server, Jessica was charming and surprised us with Bills special yellow cake and rich chocolate sauce for my husband's birthday. After dinner, we went downstairs and enjoyed piano music in their neighborhood bar. We will most definitely return to Bill's Townhouse.

Being of a modest income we found a Groupon for Bills before coming to New York. This 1920 speak-easy was warm and romantic and filled with New Yorkers of a notably higher socio-economic standard than us. The staff were all attentive and accommodating and the food definitely lived up to our expectations. On the down side there was a large table of people who had obviously been drinking for a while and had become very loud and somewhat diminished an otherwise amazing experience. When we got the bill we also found that each and every 8 oz glass of tea had been charged at $5.00 each and tax had been charged on the non-Groupon amount. So if you are going to Bills expect exceptional food and service in a pleasing atmosphere but make sure you're prepared when the bill arrives.

We had a separate room for a business event and the service was very good. The food was decent; the drinks were strong (which is good actually sometimes...). The atmosphere and decor are cool; it does have a cool retro feel to it. A long haul up the stairs so don't drink too much. The bar seemed nice but didn't get a chance to check it out much. I'd come back.

Bills is bi polar: a great piano bar, and a beautiful/ decent restaurant, that suffers from service issues. downstairs is a warm, lively piano bar with a very talented pianist. upstairs is a (very) loud dining room that serves seasonal food but offers the antithisis of comfort. The menu offers few surprises, but sadly the service causes a head ache even more then the unsound proofed floors/ walls. Our waiter (juan) was just completely" in your face". no elegance..no restraint, and with no volume controls. He cracked jokes and then laughed at them, when all we wanted to do was enjoy the company of our fellow diners. Why is it so hard just to take an order with out doing vaudeville. The sommelier was also unprofessional. She didn't answer questions that were asked, but instead just pushed high priced wines with an ttitude.. Frankly it is a shame because the staff needs to make guest comfortable, and instead of feeling the love, i felt like it was a battle to get information and order a meal and wines. anyway when the food shows up it is mostly good and in some cases great with a few exceptions. The steak was fatty, but the brussel sprouts were a hit. The ladies thought the kale salad had way too much cheese. The mushrooms were changed by the chef and not what was "billed" on the menu which is in my opinion is a form of fraud, but i guess a minor crime except when the real" bill" averaged $150/head.. You should get what you pay for, or be notified that a substitution is being made. The desserts were mixed with the choc cake yummy but decadent, and the fruits a virtual joke. Why not have great fruit presentation instead of a fruit bowl that resembled that which is served in a hospital. Ok i know the restaurant is new and the kitchen is still testing its sea legs, but i think that given the location/ space/ potential that both the kitchen and the staff needs to bring it up a notch, unless the goal is to just have people drink at and listen downstairs while the piano man pound the ivories.

Dinner with wife. ordered the fried oysters as an appetizer. They were horrible! little pieces of oyster drenched with deep dough, fried and placed back in the shell. Terrible fishy and greasy taste. Then ordered the entree. Simple enough just two steaks. This is a steak place after all. The meal never came. After a half hour we hunt down our waiter - says two more minutes. Another 15 minutes go buy ( we are up to 45 mins since we ordered) - still no food. Wine bottle is now empty. (Is this a ploy to have patrons buy more vino?). We hunt down the manager. He indicates they like to take things slow - not rush patrons! Amazing we have been screaming for our damn food and this idiot says they do not want to rush the customers. Then the manager comes back to me and indicates he only charged us for the wine! How incredibly insulting. there was no food to be charged and the oysters should be banned! Stay away from this place - there are so many better steak houses in NYC - who actually serve food in a timely fashion.

Hard to know what to expect here, but it's a place worth going. It is not romantic or typical in anyway. It feels like a London pub with live music, but the upstairs dining area has excellent food with great service... Expect $31 burgers. Cool, funky and out of the box... And worth it.

Spontaneously stepped in with my wife on a stroll through the city. We hadn't realized how mich history this place has and how museum-like the upstairs dining rooms are. We stayed at the bar downstairs. Nice, characterful place with a good after-work crowd pouring in from about 5:00 p.m. onwards. The barman made a great gin martini and a very good Hugo (although the waitress hadn't heard of the drink before). The sliders - esp. the beef ones - are to die for. Will try proper dinner there next.

We stumbled upon this restaurant and hit the jackpot! We were lucky enough to get a four spot in the bar by the window and drink martinis and have a wonderful lunch. This place is such a gem. Definitely try the martinis and I had a great club sandwich. Fantastic service and great ambiance.

Great food and cocktails. Beautiful old room on the 2nd floor. Service was attentive and food was great. Next time I will have their dry aged steak.

Last Saturday evening we wandered into Bill's for drinks and music after having dinner at a restaurant nearby. The pianist and vocalist were quite fantastic: we were singing along to all kinds of songs and of course requests were invited. The first floor bar area filled up with people coming in for a drink and to enjoy the scene! I am back in New York City in mid-March and will certainly return to Bill's for a drink and the wonderful music.

Used to be called Bill's Gay Nineties! Was a speakeasy type Bar/hangout with "follow the Bouncing Ball" theme. Patrons sang along with a live singer/piano player! Was Unique. Now under new Mgmt. & renovation, it is an up to date Bar scene, Yuppie type place! If u like trendy, corded Bars, this is it! I miss the old theme, but place is interesting, like an old Irish Pub!

Whilst staying at Hotel Elysee, noticed Bill's just across the road and was intrigued! If you like stepping back in time, then this place is a must, old fashioned piano bar, great atmosphere, food is simple but good, washed down, by a couple of bottles of good priced, French wine (now there is something you don't hear often in New York) Elliot on the piano was great, involved everyone in his songs. Certainly worth a visit, you can just nip in for a drink, we did on our last night just for a night cap to say goodbye! what a great place to spend a night in New York

Poor customer service experience. Found this restaurant on a TimeOut list of best restaurants in New York and was intrigued by the fact that it was a former speakeasy so thought it was worth a visit. How wrong could I be....From the moment I entered this place, my family and I were made to feel like we should not be there as we were tourists. We were taken up to the top floor (two steep flights of stairs) with nothing more than a hello and sat down in the restaurant area. When asking for assistance with the wine list one particular waiter was extremely rude to us and did not want to assist. The waiter was even more rude when we ordered one of the cheaper bottles of wines at around $65 so we had to wait for nearly 10 minutes for drinks even though the bar area was only one foot away from our table. When ordering the food for my guests and I, the rude waiter made me repeat what I had asked for THREE times so much so that I had to point to each item on the menu. Please note that this was not to do with a language barrier - he was just extremely rude making it very clear that he did not think that we should be in this restaurant. When we asked if we could change the couscous to mash potato to accompany the pork chop, the waiter refused to do so and said if we wanted mash we had to pay an extra $10. We REFUSED the mash and to be honest if my dinner guests had not ordered wine, I would have left due to the sheer rudeness of this waiter. When the food arrived we received mashed potato and no couscous even though we had said no to paying the additional $10 charge. We initially thought that the waiter had a change of heart and had swapped the mash for couscous. However, when the bill/check arrived the rude waiter had added the mash as an additional $10 side order. Again, we had not authorised this. Aside from this, the meal itself was good but unfortunately a good restaurant is not just about good food, it's also about good service, which we did not receive. When settling the bill the rude waiter questioned why we hadn't left, in his opinion, an acceptable tip. If it had been my way, he wouldn't have received any tip. Please note that the food is expensive. Overall, a HUGE disappointment with poor customer service and not tourist friendly.

I was a fan of the Old Bill’s, the one from the movie Michael Collins. I went there for a business lunch and ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich, it was terribly average, the chicken was tiny and lukewarm , hidden in a big bun with lettuce and tomato. It’s not worth the money ...

Bill's was just across the street from our hotel so after another long day we decided to stay close to home. What a great choice, we were still in our walking about clothes and felt a bit underdressed, the hostess treated us like gold and told us we could wear whatever we wanted. She offered us the bar area or the upstairs dining room. We chose the dining room and were the only patrons all night, downstairs was full. It was a great choice, Luke our lovely server took care of all of our needs very professionally. The food was good, I won't say great as New York has so many amazing places, but I would say the entire experience was a great one. I loved the unique décor and we were told this was previously a speakeasy, nice to enjoy a bit of history. We got a tour of the 3rd floor private dining room. I would love to hold an event there. We will be back.

Best french fries me and my husband have ever tasted, great atmosphere and nice surroundings. Great beer and well mannered staff all in all a nice place to eat and drink, say no more.

First visit was great food and excellent service. This visit was mediocre. Had a great table but it went downhill from there. The Chicken entree and Fish special were both extremely salty. Service was average. Disappointed as the food the first visit was so great.

My experience at Bills was absolutely mortifying. I went for lunch last week for the first time and experienced an overly rowdy group of men at the bar yelling and laughing to each other about the women they'd slept with the night before, making profane and degrading comments about these women (at high volume no less), and showing pictures on their phones to each other of those women. All of the restaurant staff acted as if this was normal behavior, so I asked a female employee about it. She told me they come there every day and are like that all the time. Needless to say I left and went to another restaurant. I would NEVER support a place like this.

Incredible aged steak, nice salad, nice atmosphere definitively recommended. I will return. Nice neighborhood feeling, nice service

Doesn't look like much from outside, but very attractive/appealing decor inside. Food was very tasty. Service excellent and attentive. Only (minor) complaint - 3 of us got our food first and had to wait too long for one in our party to be served.

Just renewed as Bill's formerly "bill's Gay nineties" was like an old fashioned speak easy!. Now it is kind of trendy

Bill’s townhouse is located midtown east side of manhattan. Great restaurant and atmosphere inside this old townhouse. Vintage vibes with many photos hung on walls of every floor. Had a great burger and Endive/Beet salad. Service was perfect! Nice spot for business meeting, eating with colleagues or friends and family.

The service and menu are great, a place we keep visiting. Not quite the atmosphere of the old Bills but nevertheless it’s a great venue in midtown. Also good for the lunch specials.

It is rare to find a classic Manhattan brownstone townhouse that remains a restaurant. Located in midtown, Bill;s has character, very good food and service. Cuisisne is American focused on Northeast regional ingredients and dishes.

We enjoyed a memorable last evening in New York at this restaurant which was opposite our Hotel. We did not have a reservation but they found a table for us on the first floor which was by the door but it was fine, the restaurant was full on a Wednesday evening and had a great atmosphere. The food and service were good although the bill was a tad expensive,we would recommend and would return when we next visit this amazing city.

Restaurant is located in an old townhouse and has a cosy, old fashioned feel with oil paintings and taxidermy on the walls. We trudged through the snow to get there and were greeted by friendly staff who were able to seat us without a reservation. Our group had oysters and burrata cheese w/ prosciutto to start. Mains were grilled NY steak w/ truffle fries and the kobe burger. Delicious food, excellent wine, great service - very impressed!

We stopped in after enjoying a Broadway show for a light meal. We were greeted by a friendly staff member and received excellent suggestions from her. The beer was cold and our burgers were tasty! They had a piano player providing entertainment which was a nice touch.

Can't recommend this enough - it reminds you of the 21 Club with the history and décor, but on a smaller and perhaps more "home-like" scale. We gathered our family, a total of 10 people, for a goodbye dinner for a family friend moving to Portland. The restaurant is charming! We ate on the second floor at a long table - usually I prefer round with a group but this did work out fine because we really had no trouble hearing each other. This was especially key since we all wanted to make personal remarks to our friend! The service was excellent and the food outstanding. The Oysters and steak were terrific. After our dinner, we enjoyed having drinks in the bar, which was quite crowded when we arrived (a good bar scene) but very comfortable when we finished dinner. It was a Thursday night in October.

Someone tore out a 100 year old bar and built a new bar to look like a 100 year old bar, but it's still a good lunch stop and a good place to have a drink after work.

Some fantastic food served here but the service was a little slow, but worth the wait. Can get a little cramped in the dining room.

Great food, special atmosphere. Former speak-easy - small but big personality. Restaurant is upstairs. The bar downstairs is equally as special.

The food is good, the wait staff friendly enough and the restaurant is cozy. We eat there every year.

Bill's is kind of like the NYC version of Cheers. The live entertainment is perfect, good enough to enjoy and even sing along if so inclined. We hit Bill's every time we go to NYC and will continue to do so.

We found Bills because we were staying across the street. Excellent lunch in an old NY pub with lots of history. Place is busy. Food is top notch! Waitstaff is friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed lunch of freshly baked chicken with roasted potatoes and yummy carrots. Good "home" food on a cold and rainy NY day!

Great atmosphere for a business or casual meeting. Service was extremely welcoming... Music is fantastic!

Went because it was right across the street from our hotel. Stick with the beer. The wines are average and my husband ordered a Sazerac and our waitress had to help the bartender make it! She was delightful. This place is ok just not anything special.

Chef Angel takes regular fare and turns it into fantastic...I don't know what spices were added to the New England Clam Chowder, but it took on a whole new taste and flavoring on top of the normally delicious NE Clam chowders I have had...taking it to another level...The same with the Bronzino finished under the salamander to crisp the skin then placed on delicious quinoa with yet flavor that took me to a new level...The Pumpkin Cheese Cake was excellent as was the strong, hardy cup of cappuccino...great attentive service!

A real trip down memory lane for 18th & 20th century play bills. It would have been a place our cousin would have loved & as we were celebrating his life - a perfect place to be. The wine glasses were small so just kept reordering but our lunches were very good. Two of us had the cob salad with grilled chicken & were very pleased. Just simple food with great atmosphere. A NYC Icon.

I went to Bill's on a date in New York City, as I had found a Groupon for the meal and it was in the area of our other activities. Their food was not the best food that I ever had, but it was perfectly fine. However, their service was excellent! We were running late for our reservation, and they were booked that night, but they accommodated us when we arrived. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table to open up, but they made sure that they seated us. In addition, our waitress was very nice - I think her name was Christina? She was attentive, but not overbearing. A man who I assume is the owner of the restaurant also came over a couple of times to make sure that we were having a good experience. If you are looking for a place with a cool ambiance, great service, and decent food, try it out!

While waking around Times Square we found this great restaurant with warm inviting atmosphere and great service. Our waiter Troy rounded out the experience. Make sure you ask for a window seat under the Yak and order the Pork Chops and Brussel Sprouts. Brussel Sprouts can be really bad if not cooked correctly, but Bill got it right. For desert we recommend the Cheesecake. Oh and the meatball appetizer was fantastic.

Was there with a group of 7, a bit tight but they made it work. We ordered oysters that were fresh and awesome as well as some shrimp and crab. Also ordered a couple pasta dishes as appetizers, left me wanting more. Had a steak that was perfectly done medium and the sides were all really goood; fries, mushrooms... pretty much had every side on menu and all were good. Place was really busy on a Thursday night but service was excellent. Writing the review is making me hungry and I will for sure be back!

The restaurant is located in Midtown, near 5th avenue and the shops. The area is not buzzy generally in the evening as its where all the high end shops are not all the bars, clubs and restaurants. However the restaurant itself is very nice, a gorgeous townhouse with a 1920s feel. Quite quirky with dark decor and paintings all over the walls. You feel transported back to New York in the 1920s. We had reservations at 9pm on a Friday night and there were only 2 other tables booked. So it did feel very quiet and a bit flat as we were all quite far apart from each other. Which is a shame as the staff were superb, very friendly and attentive. The food as well was great, had the burger which was delicious! It might have just been an off night for them, and I would still very much recommend for the food.

Excellent place for business lunches and dinners. What tablecloth, properly dressed wait staff. Excellent Kale salad and hamburger.

We went in for appetizers after a reception. The restaurant is lovely! It is decorated with portraits, maps, photographs and other wall hangings. Our server Walther was very attentive and very professional. He directed us to one of the specials, an avocado based gazpacho which was interesting, delicious and perfect for a hot evening. We followed that by splitting a crab cake which we also enjoyed. We plan to return with heartier appetites.

I used my groupon and dined here - I am glad I did. We arrived a bit early, so we had wine in the bar. The bartender told us a lot about the beautifully preserved bar area while recommending the perfect wine. The receptionists were not only attractive but also very attentive and caring. They explained about the building and retained brick wall at the reception. The second floor is the dining area - it was cozy but tables were situated strategically so that I did not need to hear other people's business. My food was wonderful from the beat salad, pork chop, to cheesecake. Two managers greeted us. The lady manager was exceptional, and so was our waiter. I will go back with or without the groupon deal.

The thoughtfulness of bartender, the excellence of calimari made a rainy afternoon unforgettable. The atmosphere and positive noise of others provided a moment to relax and enjoy.

I and my partner were staying near Bills so we decided to call in for an early evening drink. We sat at the bar , there was no drinks list so we ordered what we always have two Tanqueray and tonics. These were a measure of Tanqueray, slice of lime, ice and tonic from a gun. The same as you get in any bar in NYC. We decided to leave after one drink as we didn’t think the atmosphere was particularly good. I asked for the check and was absolutely astonished and very annoyed!!! The bill for our two average drinks was $44 + tax!! Thank goodness we hadn’t ordered another one.. That’s $20 more than we had paid in any other bar for the same drinks during our 4 days in New York. So be warned this bar really does not warrant these prices!!

We stopped by for a very late lunch (4pm) but they allowed us to order from the dinner menu anyway. The restaurant proper is upstairs and is very nice looking. We ate in the bar area. We were very casually dressed and soaking wet from rain, so were more comfortable downstairs. The food is the same, however, and it was delicious! We had a beet salad and a kale salad - both great. And chicken pot pies --- again home made and perfect meal for a rainy day. After 5pm, the bar area starts getting crowded and by the time we left it was a really nice NY bar crowd. So from 5pm on you would have to eat in the upstairs restaurant.

Ricotta Meatball is a must. Great food across the board and brilliant service. A good wine list too.

Sat at bar after work. Attentive service. Good drinks, although margarita was not handmaid from scratch.

Bill's is one of the things you love NYC for. Classy old world ambiance, real bartenders who know you and make great drinks, and fantastic food. My go to place in midtown.

Nice bar with nice food and staff straight across from the Ellysee hotel. Would recommend this place for food, lunch or even just a drink. The bar manager Sharif was very pleasant sadly we never recieved the free round of drinks he offered to us......maybe next time.

Downstairs, things are hopping in the bar, and upstairs, a quiet and elegant dining room is serving first-rate steaks and fish. A wonderful dinner and dessert here, with staff and management looking to provide a memorable meal. Then comes the check, and it's a pretty stiff one. Not for the faint of wallet. Recommended.

We had the best time at Bill's the piano player was amazing. We went on a Wed night and all the regulars were there and made our night so much fun. Highly recommend everyone should go to Bill's

A great place in NYC for dinner that is like walking into someone's old house. The setup inside is amazing and the steak and fish are to die for. This place came highly recommended and lived up to the expectations. A+

I had lunch with a friend, I ordered the steak sandwich, it was excellent, came with fries. My friend had the hamburger, she enjoyed her meal as well. I highly recommend.

A former hangout for flappers and the men who sponsored them. Walls are lined with old pictures of the theater crowd of the Gay 90's. Not the village gay 90's....the 1890s. The food is always decent. You won't find them in the Michelin guide, but you won't be disappointed either. The price is good. The service is spotty, on same days you can wait awhile for your meals. The coat check girl/hostess is the nicest in the city. The bar area is not my favorite both for clientele and service staff. I have eaten here at least 30 times.

great drinks, fantastic musician, seemed as if everyone knew each other and welcomed us in as part of this family

This is truly a neighborhood restaurant. Great atmosphere with music and lounge downstairs and dining upstairs. There were a few tables downstairs for those that didn't mind the lounge music. Very small and compact and a little noisy but it IS New York. The food and presentation and service was well worth the money. I will go again.

Meal was so very good ..my friend had the steak which was perfect, and I had the Chicken Pot Pie which was so yummy ! We sat in the bar area, service was good , bartender was funny, drinks strong and the 80s classic music playing was what had us literally shut the place down.

We stepped down there last week and had an amazing time. Although the bar tender was stoic and grouchy we didn't let that bother us. The singing was fun (although not the greatest) and the bar was full -- we stayed until closing. If you want a fun small place to visit, meet the locals -- this is the place for you.

We found Bill's with a Groupon and definitely an must return when we visit again. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like VIPs! Bill's atmosphere is old NY. The new owners have done nothing more than made it better by preserving the history of the building. Our waiter and the staff greeted us as regulars and were very helpful in answering our questions. We both had the strip steak and it was tender and done perfectly. The best part was as we finished dinner the manager (Frank) visited our table to check on our experience and thank us for coming. The next thing we know we are on a private tour of the building as he explained the history of it and what the new owners had done and future plans. The third floor is for private parties and would be a very cool place to have an event. You will not go wrong visiting Bill's!

Very nice restaurant. Not Many choices on the menu but quality of food is great and very good price to quality. I had the beef filet which was delicious. My colleague had the Branzino fish which was also very good. High quality of service as well. The restaurant has a nice atmposphere, it seems to be in the living room of a nice house . Highly recommended.

Went here with with a friend. I arrived first and had a drink at the bar. Waited 10 minutes before the bartender asked for what I wanted. He was busy counting money and cleaning the bar area. My friend arrived and he ordered one drink as well. When we asked for the tab it was $16 a piece for maragaritas on the rocks.nit including tax/tip. Crazy. Prices are just as high as if you were at a 5!star hotel. Bartender was also rude. Luckily the restaurant made up for it. Our waitress Christina was very nice and attentive. She throated my stopped by asking how everything was. The food was delicious. I ordered the roasted beet salad with goat cheese crostini. The strip steak was perfect as well as the side of fries. The espresso dulce de leche for dessert was also delicious. Would definitely go back but not to the bar.

I went to this spot for dinner on an overnight trip to midtown Manhattan, mainly to order their roasted branzino and hoping to get the whole fish (head to tail). Their menu is steakhouse style, which is generally not favored by me because it usually means uninspired, overpriced cuisine. The ambiance is classic New York from the early 1900's, with lots of photos and memorabilia covering the walls, which gives a comfortable feel. My dry martini that was good, albeit expensive ($18). The plate of raw New Brunswick oysters had good accompaniments and was priced fairly by NYC standards ($3.50 each), but the oysters were so puny in size. I was disappointed, as it was difficult to get a good flavor experience from each one. The branzino dish, a whole fish by my request instead of being filleted, was very good. The fish was fresh and cooked nicely. The grill marks suggested that it was roasted on a grill. The cold, shaved fennel side-salad was tasty but did not pair well with the fish (too much contrast). I thought that a warm fennel side, such as shaved fennel sauteed with cippolini onion, would have worked better. The NY cheesecake was kind of dry, and overpriced at $12. The waitress-prepared espresso was superb! I view this restaurant as being on the expensive side in general (from studying their menu) and for the items that I received, based on the quality of the experience. Overall, I would rate this restaurant average-to-very good, depending on what is ordered. The service provided was very good and timely.

We were staying at the Hotel Elysee across the street from Bill's which was surprisingly closed both Saturday and Sunday. Our flight home was late Monday afternoon, so after packing up, we decided to go to lunch at Bill's and it was great. We both had the hanger steak which included polenta fries, which was something new, plus a fried egg on top of the steak which was also something new. Service was excellent and the food was excellent. When your in Manhattan, give this place a try.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the bar today. Great burgers! Great drinks! Great atmosphere! We stopped in here for once after visiting MOMA and loved it! Great place for lunch!

The downstairs bar had a piano player keeping it lively and fun. The upstairs dining room is elegant and charming. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced for its Manhattan location.

It's been a while since I last stopped by Bill's Gay Nineties, and I was due. Bill's is an authentic speakeasy straight out of the Roaring Twenties. The entrance is half a flight down from the street and you walk into a hallway with a coat check. To your right there they are....a pair of swinging saloon doors, just like you've seen in any Western flick ever made. Before you go through, check the floor....yeah....there in the tile is the name "Bill" spelled out in genuine sliver dollars. Nothing inside has changed, which is all to the good. At 5 PM last Friday night, the place was hopping - just a few tables open. The crowd was a nice mix of, shall I say "more mature" drinkers, and young professionals. I could tell there were a lot of first-timers because when they came down the steps from the sidewalk they weren't quite sure where the door was. I was there for about an hour or so and by the time I left every table in the bar was taken and it was SRO at the bar. Here's a not-so-secret about Bill's....if you're coming for dinner, go up to the dining room on the second floor. It's a good sized room decorated with Broadway posters from long ago. I haven't eaten there so I can't review the food. I went back last Saturday afternoon for one on the run and this time there were some tables open but just one bar stool. I had a 12 yr old scotch, for which I paid $12, which is very reasonable. Hot tip for the ladies: while the men's room is at the end of the hallway next to the saloon, the ladies' is up on the third floor! It looks to me like Bill's is getting to be a hot spot!

Historically significant townhouse provides a great setting for a private party or business lunch. Third floor has two great private rooms with bar set up. Overall experience could be better if the service was better. Indifferent and confused hostess doesn't set the right mood when you enter. Food is ok, salads and fish choices are good for a light lunch.

Tucked in a 19th century townhouse on a midtown east block, Bill's was a pleasant surprise. When we first got there, I was a bit hesitant seeing the sea of people in the downstairs bar ...thank goodness for the upstairs dining room..cozy, warm with attentive service. Food was also surprisingly good, totally unexpected (no offense). We had the Berkshire pork chops and steak....very nicely-done, and I'd say even rivals some NY steakhouses! As diners started pouring in, dining room at times did feel a bit tight. You also have to 'climb' a rather steep set of stairs to reach the 2nd floor dining room.

Bill's is a wonderful, unique restaurant in midtown Manhattan. It has stylish decor and old world style with a fireplace, animal heads, maps on wall, and other cool knickknacks in the dining room upstairs. The cuisine is American/steakhouse and everything we tried was fairly good or great (may be on simple side but that isn't a bad thing) - specifically enjoyed the Salmon main course and the short ribs were delicious. Also, the service was friendly. The restaurant is on the pricey side but worth the visit for the food, ambiance and trip through time (note - have seen groupons available here which would make dinner quite reasonable). In addition, they have a loud and festive bar downstairs that often has live music (piano/singing) and is generally crowded after work - a great place for a whiskey or beer.

My wife and I like to purchase Groupons for restaurants we might not visit otherwise in the hope of finding a new place to frequent. Bill's is that restaurant! My NY Strip was tasty and perfectly cooked, served along with the most crispy and delicious french fries I have ever eaten (and I've had a lot of french fries), and my wife had an amazing moist and tender pork chop. I understand this location was the previous home of Bill's Gay Nineties, and there are apparently some hints of hauntings on the upper floor! We can't wait to go back, and this time will bring friends.

Service was absolutely impeccable and the food was all well prepared. It was great to be shown to our seats immediately and a corner table certainly allowed for discussion

Very lively bar scene on the first floor and very stylish old-world setting on the upper floors. Excellent pub-style service. The food is consistently excellent and not what you would expect from a pub restaurant.

Bill's is an unusual place and definitely worth a visit. This location was a speakeasy during prohibition days and the decor reflects the past. Located in a townhouse with lots of wood and art, it is very different from most other restaurants in the area. We were here for a private event on the third floor. Since the menu selections were set, I cannot speak for other dishes, but the steak frites, salmon and pork loin as well as the sides seemed to be enjoyed by all in attendance. What really stood out were the desserts -- the lightest cheesecake ever and a rich chocolate lava cake were incredible! I will definitely go back and order from the menu!

Whatever else New York lacks it does not lack decent places to eat. The food here whilst nice is average but the prices are way over even for New York, From what I could see companies paid for most of the bills.

We had dinner here on Friday the 27th of September. Really liked the place, had some great stuff hanging on the walls and the tables were well spaced, plenty of room. I had the braised rib. It was very, very good. The mashed potatoes were pretty good as well, perhaps whipped a bit too much. Service was good as well. The only real problem was the drink I ordered. A place like this, at these prices, should be able to make a bloody mary and a good one at that. I have never had such a poor excuse for one. It was as if they ran out of mix and didn't bother to open another bottle. No flavor and you could look right through it. At first I thought I was in for some new rendition of an old favorite but it was not to be. A guy who I assumed was the manager came by after dinner and asked abut our experience. I made a point of praising the meal and also was very frank about the drink. He Seemed mildly interested in my comment. It's not the most expensive place but not a diner either. I expected a fine drink and after not getting that I expected a bit more concern from the staff.

I was the only one who ordered seafood. It was pretty bland. The mac and cheese side dish made up for it but expected something a little more flavorful with the scallops. Great wine list though.

We went to NY to celebrate my two best friends' 50th birthdays. The meal, ambience, food was fantastic and we all had a lovely time.

Our hotel was across the street so having checked reviews on other sites we went over for a meal on our first night. All I can say is that we ate there 5 out of the 6 nights we stayed in NYC, the food is excellent although the menu is a little limited for meat eaters, the service was brilliant and the piano and sing alongs were great, do not go to Bill's if you are looking for a quiet night as it gets pretty crowded! Wine by the glass is fine if a little bit pricey but tha's nothing new in that in this town, I am an extremely fussy person and if I can recommend this place it's fit for anyone who is looking for a good time and good food in a clean if basic environment.

Just had lunch at Bill's which was nicely cooked and well presented. I had the chicken which was tasty but I didn't expect it to be crumbed (and hadn't asked) so may not have chosen it had I known beforehand. However my husband's salmon was excellent and cooked to his liking. Both of us very happy with our veg selection. Close to our hotel so I'm sure we will go again.

This is a really cool place. Nice old fashioned bar downstairs and a nice restaurant upstairs. The place has great character and the staff were really friendly. The seafood tower was amazing and the steaks tasted delicious. Would definitely visit again.

This spot is a lovely refuge from the bustle of midtown - white tablecloth meets Parisian-style "salon". Waitstaff is attentive but not hovering and professional. Food was delicious and comfortable. A wonderful mix of artwork, mixed with mounted goat heads and other ephemera climb the soaring walls. There is nothing trendy or modern or sleek about this place. And thank goodness.

Dining room OK for the price but nothing special. Avoid the really cheap-and-nasty wine by the glass -- no excuse for this at these prices. We had really good wines, and better food, at the next-door-but-one Cellini and round-the-corner PJ Clarke's. Judging from the other reviews, there's decent casual dining downstairs in the piano bar.

This bar/restaurant is FANTASTIC. Went here every night for a night cap, talking to the bar staff and to the owner who rembered us from spending time there 2 years ago. The food is excellent, could not fault it. Thursday nights are the busiest, we ended up sharing our table with a group of people who had finished work for the day and were there for dinner and drinks. We met up with some Aussie firefighters on another night, so the place was noisy and buzzing. The "piano man" plays every night and takes requests. Do yourself a favour and go.

Not much more to say about Bill's then the title of the review. Every time I’m in NY I try my very best to go to Bills. Consistently great food, great service in an amazing building. Definitely check it out if you’re in NY.

Stumbled across Bill's earlier today for a spot of lunch to find a party going on. Was told by the owner that the landlord has upped the rent hence the piano bar and all it's history was closing tomorrow (24th march). They are trying to find new premises nearby to relocate but the history is closing with the premises.

Did not eat, although the food looked good. Good drinks, good bartender, good spot. If you are looking for a comfortable place away from the hustle and crowds, this is a good choice. My kind of place. I will come back hereon my next NYC trip, and get some bar food.

My work partner and I chanced upon this place just a few blocks from our office on Thursday. Almost easy to miss as its not that big a place, so we popped in for a drink. The atmosphere was reminiscent of an old speak easy, which I think this used to be. The staff was friendly and attentive the menu looked so inviting we decided to stay for dinner. We started with a combo appetizer the crafted at our request, mini crab cakes and a portion of a Jumbo Shrimp cocktail. Living in Maryland for over 10 years, I am very picky about my crab cakes, these were amazing, and less bread, more crab - perfect. The shrimp were huge, fresh and a treat too. My friend ordered the seasame encrusted Tuna, and I ordered the New York Strip. We eached shared a portion of each others food, the Tuna was amazing and my meat was delicious. I will saw my meat was a bit cooked more than I cared for, but it was not to the point I needed to send it back so if you order meat, order it more rare than you need, it should probably come out correct. I enjoyed the McManis Cabernet, my friend, the Malbec (not sure what kind) and both wines were very nice, and the best part was the price, about 8$ a glass, which is most reasonable for a midtown haunt. We didnt have any dessert, but maybe thats something for a follow up visit? Overall, the staff was attentive, the food a good value, and the atmostphere cozy and you can hear yourself talk which is also nice. For a thursday night out, it was not too busy, but this is a small venue so keep in mind it could be full if you don't plan your vist.

..surprise. A classical feeling to it in a family style atmosphere. Great service and great food. We had the Kobe burgers- absolutely amazing. This is a coming to restaurant! Solid 4.

We were looking forward to returning here after a previous trip but sadly it didn’t live up to expectations. The food was ok, expensive for what it is and service was a little overbearing. The menu is limited, no wine menu and no desserts were offered. Got the impression that only regulars are welcome. I asked for a menu at the bar, the server said they didn’t have one and walked off so we gave up and spent our money elsewhere.

We stayed across the street at the Hotel Elysee and I loved this little piano bar. Lucky it was a quiet Tuesday in August and we found two seats at the bar near the music. Fun time and loved the pianist. Please tip him, he works really hard!

This is the real speakeasy bar ! great drinks it feels as if you are traveling back in time not to mention the upstairs restaurant and the fine dinning and dinning area. the whole brownstone is a place to see.
Superb Saturday
I visited Bill's Townhouse on Saturday evening, March 10th. I had been referred by a few friends that gave the place rave reviews. my friend and I were greeted as soon as we arrived and guided to our table. The overall experience was just what we needed-- a pleasant atmosphere, great service and delicious food. We had to head out to an event after dinner but I look forward to visiting again to enjoy another delicious meal.
