quiet place when you're out of town

By larrybodine |

I'm in the city on business and all I wanted was a quiet place where I could grab a decent dinner. The decor was nothing fancy, but the food was great. I had the beef shortribs with cheesy polenta -- talk about rich! I went home satisfied.

A treasure of a restaurant close to Penn Station.

By ConanJana |

Unexpected excellence near the Hotel Pennsylvania, thanks to the concierge's suggestion! My niece and I had the most excellent meal and desert. It was small and cozy with amazing ambience, I felt alive again! The energy and the talent of Manhattan was felt there, something I just don't get in upstate New York!

Homemade pasta? Yes plese

By Caitlin N |

If you want great atmosphere, friendly service, and fantastic Italian cuisine, then you should head over to Biricchino. The homemade pasta tastes great--I had rigatoni. We also ate the salami/Italian meat platter which was delicious. Really a great meal. Would recommend instantly.

Excellent

Great find. Excellent pasta, sauces were perfect. Salmon with dill perfectly done. Desserts were excellent and tiramisu outstanding. Definitely worth a return!

Quick stop before a concert

By ALPH2015 |

Staying in NYC overnight for a concert at MSG. Looking for a nice italian restaurant, found this on the way. Wow. Beautiful interior. ..great menu.. .friendly staff. What more would you want? Oh yea, the food was fantastic. Charcuterie board to start my wife had chicken milanese for entree and I had pigs head ragu!! Pretty plate presentation and very flavorful dinner. Definitely recommend this place if you're in town.

Great service & good food

By Mary Grace P |

Biricchino was such a good restaurant find in Chelsea, where we visited for a recent NYC getaway. Reservations appeared to be a must on a Saturday evening. We had planned ahead and made reservations for the two of us at 6:30, and the place was completely filled. By the time we left, close to 9:00 pm, walk-ins would have stood a chance for a table. Our server was delightful, and I wish I could recall her name to extend the compliment and appreciation! We began with some good crusty bread, a nice bottle of pinot noir, and shared a Biricchino salad, which was ample for two, and very good. Our entrees include Saltimbocca and Saffron Linguine alle Vongole, and both were well-prepared and tasty. We lingered a while, chatted a bit with fellow diners, and by the time we left, the bottle of wine was empty and we were extremely content! We definitely recommend Biricchino as a really comfortable and satisfying dining experience.

Menu not the same as online

By Kmata99 |

I enjoy picking out my meal ahead of time and I selected a homemade pasta dish with mushrooms that I was very excited about. However, once at the restaurant they did not offer that item, nor did they offer anything remotely similar. The sausages were delicious. I ordered veal ravioli and it was just okay...the sauce was bland. My husband had the rigatoni, which was also just okay. His sauce was much more flavorful and the sausage was good. I wouldn't go back.

Disappointing evening

By joanna e |

Family of four two adults and two children. Food was good but not brilliant.Service was very poor since no engagement with the customer, which is not good! Absolutely no time given by the staff and felt very pushed. A shame.

Quaint Italian Bistro

By Allyninc |

We stopped by this Italian trattoria after having just arrived in New York. It was a pleasant visit in a casual setting. The service was excellent. Dinner was unexpectedly greeted by a sliced meet tray of a variety seasoned specialties. The meals were not extravagant but plentiful and well prepared. Desserts were delicious.

Nice

By spyguyNyc |

The place is very nice. Its on the side street of 29th street and 8th Avenue. It in a nice section of town. Nice frontage when you walk in it a little cheap looking not on the high end on furniture at all. The wine list is nice kind of short but good quality. The food the food is high quality product but very expensive for what you get. Service is ok they don't understand what they're serving can not explain what you're getting. If you go in at 9 o'clock they will rush you out they close extremely early. And they don't think twice about insulting you about getting you out. By 10 p.m. it's closed. And that's every night of the week. If somebody cared in the establishment and wanted to boost business there would be a friendly person in the front. Serving their exceptional food and single open to at least 11 1130 on the weekends pm. Then they would have a thriving business I guess they have too much money.

Very Good

By Marco |

Saw reviews for this place here on tripadvisor. True quality all around. Great service. Nice atmosphere. Food was very nice. Had some sliced meat and homemade sausage for an appetizer both were excellent. Our dinners were gnocchi, good but on the soft side, veal ravioli was good and the roasted chicken was excellent . Don't miss deserts. Cannoli was yummy!

Satisfying and recognizable Italian

By tama z |

Sometimes you want unvarnished, first rate Italian food, not dressed up for the 21st century. If you are in Chelsea, step right in. You will find excellent sausage and charcuterie, delicious bread, good pasta, and on our last visit a polenta and short ribs plate that made us all remember our last trip to Italy. Reasonable wine list and moderate prices for NY add to the pleasure. If Italian is what you crave, that's what you'll get here.

Fabulous food

By karenantigua |

We were visiting NYC from our home in the Caribbean and found this fabulous restaurant where we had lunch. It was so good, we went back for dinner. Easy location, the food was superb Italian fayre, Great choice of wine. Lots of flavor and the staff were lovely. Highly recommend. You'll need to book if there's an event at Maddison Square Garden

Very nice place.

By WorldtravellerKNH |

Had lunch there recently. Has a 'Hole in wall' look given its close to the busy Penn station and 8th avenue. Food was excellent - simple and felt genuinely home made. Service was ok - not the greatest. But did not expect it to be - so did not become an issue. Overall great place.. One of the undiscovered places in New York city.

To try

By Magali R |

Very good restaurant, a bit alone in the world. The waitress is welcoming and tries to understand our requests. The quantities are not great, some are missing a little.

Delicious and off the beaten path

By M B |

I ate lunch with business colleagues. We chose the restaurant because the location was convenient for us (out of the way for most tourists). The food was delicious, service was friendly, and value was good. Atmosphere was nice, and it was easy to hold a conversation.

Great Italian food, reasonable price

By Nimby |

We happened to stumble upon this restaurant on a pilgrimage to TieCrafters, and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Wonderful soups, fresh pastas with delicious sauces, and while we didn't try the sausages, it appears that they make homemade sausages here and are famous for them. I read another review which said that it used to better than it is now. If that is the case, it must have been very nice indeed, because we had an excellent meal last week! I would definitely recommend it.

Really Good Northern Italian food

By Ann G |

This gem of a restaurant, with gorgeous exposed brickwork, is tucked away on 29th street just east of 8th Avenue in Manhattan. It features some hearty meat and seafood dishes (octopus is my favorite) as well as various pasta dishes, including gluten free. It favors arugula as a bed for meat and seafood and its cheesecake is delicious, as with any self-respecting New York restaurant! I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

Amazing

By lisa s |

Amazing pasta. We’ve travelled all over Europe and this was by far the best pasta I have ever had. I had the pesto bean pasta and my husband had the mushroom, bacon pancetta tagliatelle. We also shared the Bruschetta. Th whole meal was outstanding. Aperol Spritz went down a treat too 😘

Avoid

By Björn S |

Tasteless food and mediocre service. 18% gratuity added to bill. Would have been 0 or at most 1% if I had had a choice in the matter (staff was at least somewhat friendly). On a side note the place also smells kind of bad, which is not pleasant for a dinner experience.

It used to be very good

By bergfischer |

This place used to be very good, creative, very Italian. Now the food is just good and expensive. Where are the sausages produced by the Salumeria Biellese in the same building? Except for a sausage appetizer there are no "Cotechino's", "Zampone's" or "Saussisson a l'ail" on the menu. The place looks a little old and the service is not very crisp. Add insult to injury, the espresso is lousy.

Home made food

By LisaTrotter |

Great sausages home made, cozy atmosphere, good service. Full menu and rotating daily lunch menus. Good wine list.

Some of the best Italian food yet!

By Thomandjane |

Biricchino Restaurant was very close to the Holiday Inn Express and a real local type of restaurant, just the type we like. The food was to die for, our party raved about everything from the salads and Rigatoni with sweet sausage to the squash and corn soup. The Raviolis were yummy. Yes it was a little pricey but so what we are on vacation. Sorry no pictures.

Went back for more

By BobCMiddletown |

Our office in NY is only a few blocks from this great restaurant. We were staying in NY for a few days while we shot a TV show and found this gem of an Italian restaurant. The service is warm and friendly and on our third time there in two weeks the Chef came to introduce himself and talk with us for a while. Not only a great guy but OMG what a Chef. I had the pasta with sausage and my wife had another pasta dish with jalapeño flavoring and sausage. This is a quiet place, only seats maybe 100 people. It's only about 4 blocks from MSG. If your in town and want a really great meal served by great people do yourself a favor and try this place. I guarantee you'll love it. Were going back again next week.

Small, friendly, good food, reasonable prices

By 94Q45T |

I went with a group of 20, many of whom came and went at different times. Despite that, the service was fast, well organized and accurate. Within the group, we had a wide variety of dishes from the menu. Uniformly, we all enjoyed what we had. The spices were effective, the salads fresh and inviting. Highly recommended.

Nonna'as meatball - a fine eating experience

By ClaudeBron |

This was the day of San Gennaro in Little Italy. We were looking for an nice restaurant and liked the atmosphere of this place offering Northern Italian food. I chose one of the specialities of the house “Meatballs della Nonna” and was delighted with the food. My companion ordered some lighter salad with chicken meat and was very happy about her choice as well. It might have a little loud during lunch time - but this may as well be typical Italian style. A nice selction of wine by the bottle as well as by the glass made this place a very nice discovery in Chelsea.

An Oasis in the Penn Station Desert

By Timothy D |

Penn Station MSG is surrounded with restaurants, but with a few exceeptions these are more sports bar than true restaurant. Although it was a new name to me, I was fortunate to be introduced to the 90 year old Biricchino last wee. Just a short walk from Penn Station, Biricchino was a welcome spot for lunch onn a rainy Monday afternoon. The Menu offers some Italian restaurant standards and some interesting variations. We started with a small selection of their varied sausages. Meaty, moist, and without any of those inedible mystery bits one finds in commercial sausage. The service was polite, friendly and attentive but unobtrusive. I ordered the gigli with prosciutto, peas in a very nice, but light cream sauce. My companion order a pasta dish with merguez sausage. Both dishes were excellent. Highly recommend

Small and quaint

By Ginger L |

Came with my family ,party of seven for lunch..was promptly seated and drink order was taken. Staff was very friendly. I had the salmon with salad. Delicious..my husband hade the fettuccine with boar meatballs..very good. The penne alla vodka was also a big hit.nice wine selection. Will definitely be back...

Many pros and cons

By Carolyn B |

I have rarely eaten in a restaurant that had so many perplexing pros and cons. Beginning with the reservation--we requested 7pm and were told that we could only come at 7:15. We accidentally arrived at 7 from out of town and found, on a Saturday night, that the restaurant was half empty. And yet, the noise level was so high that we could not hear the waitress recite the specials. The atmosphere is charming. It took a very long time for the waitress to get to us. Eventually, we ordered drinks and while they had some delicious concoctions like the Lemoncello martini, the drinks arrived one by one and we never were able to make a toast since one person's glass of wine didn't arrive until way later after he had to request it a second time. It appeared as if there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant--I'm not sure, but for a Saturday night they were fairly thin on wait staff. We were a group of 8 very experienced diners and so we got to taste many items on the menu--sharing around. Comments were that the homemade sausage was delicious, that the homemade salami was wonderful, but there were just a few paper-thin slices for a whopping $5. We tried about 5 different ones and loved the taste of all of them, but then it was $25. for very little. The home-made sausages were delicious. The bread and olive oil were particularly good. The Caesar salad did not taste as if it contained any anchovy. The crab crostini was delicious. On the main dishes the menu is VERY limited and the portions are ok but not whopping by any standard. The salmon was cooked just right, but the salad with it was tasteless. The chicken dishes were both good as was the pasta. But then there was the most perplexing thing that happened. The last person to be served had ordered short ribs. The waitress plunked down a dish and said something like "we're out of short ribs so here's lamb". This was impossible to understand since so many people don't like lamb. There was no asking if it was ok--just an indifference. Since we didn't want to have to wait for a new dish to be prepared, we kept the lamb, considered trading around among us and then finally our guest just ate it. Nobody had ever consulted us as to whether that substitution was ok! As for desserts, the canoli were ok and the gelato was tasteless. I'm hoping that we were just there on an off night, but the 8 of us would obviously not return. It was a very unrefined dining experience in a place with great potential but obviously no management whatsoever. Perhaps it would be a better experience at lunch time? It was fairly expensive for a pretty unimpressive dining experience.

cozy small and simple

By Chris S |

randomly stopped inside for a drink. staff were very friendly and happy. music was some great old world nyc jazz. menu was small and simple like any real focused restaurant on dishes should be. all old exposed brick and wood beams. its a great vibe to be seated and enjoy the place

Again, after a year, not disappointed.

By Balfian |

We were given a table for four set comfortably in a corner among the brick decor. Atmosphere was excellent as remembered. The custom sausages were wonderful as was all the food, except for some dryness in a chicken entree. A major highlight was our server, Jackie - brimming with energy, efficient, and just fun. We ate, drank, talked for almost three hours with no pressure at all. A short walk (really short) to Madison Square Garden and Penn station. We'll go back.

Delicious pasta 🍝

By Joan |

Service was amazing, very helpful and attentive! And the food DELICIOUS 💖 I loved the taste of the pasta i had , and the great options on menu for any likes.

An okay restaurant

By Nahum S |

All but the food was really good: service, atmosphere and staff ranked high. The food, however, was quite tasteless. It did not taste like an Italian dish should have. The wine we bought, Barbera 2014, was of low quality and did not match the price we paid for.

Lovely meal

By Sarah A |

We had a great meal here with our teenage children. It was just what we were looking for - a family-run, traditional Italian with all of the usual favourites. We shared a charcuterie board, and then all had different pastas, all delicious. The cocktail list was good, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.

As somebody else said a hidden gem

By Jon N |

We found this restaurant purely by chance. The food was excellent. What I liked was the limited menu. It often worries me if there are too many choices on the menu. Having recently been in Bologna Italy this gives my wife something to use as a comparator. This restaurant would not be out of place in Northern Italy. They even sell Italian beer but the Italians have never been renowned for their beer! The service was friendly and not over fussy.

Great Lamb!

By Sophia B |

Some of the best Italian food I have had in NYC. I went with a friend out of pure hunger and the beastly cold weather., we were trying to get a cab and it was taking to long and he said lets eat here instead. Best decision ever!. The waitress was helpful and suggested what we should try. We ordered the caprese salad and the soup of the day. The soup was a noodle and sweet pea soup that warmed our souls. It was delicious. I ordered the fish of the day which was salmon and my friend ordered the lamb rack for entrees. My fish was cooked to perfection but I almost ate all of his Lamb and roasted potatoes. The Lamb was seasoned so well and charred just right. Then came the Tiramisu. 3 for 3 I left fat, dumb and super happy. Will definitely visit again on my next trip to NYC.

It’s a nice average

By Jackandkaren1972 |

The menu is somewhat limited and the kitchen was unwilling to make changes off the menu. Charming atmosphere. Derive ok. Food ok. Certainly no a special trip.

Delicious food and friendly service

By Jamie575 |

My first night in NY and fighting the jet-lag, the wife and I decided to just around the corner. She had eaten here before and recommended it. We managed to snag some bar counter seats and the menu was presented. The restaurant is smallish but the service is superb. We ordered a steak and an octopus. The Cher-grilled pre-sliced steak arrived on a bed of rocket leaves, done just right. The octopus had a nice burnt outer layer with the insides soft and flavorful. We enjoyed our simple dinner and I had to call it quits before I fell asleep at the bar. I’m thinking of returning for the spaghetti with wild boar mincemeat balls. Recommended!

One of My Favorite Restaurants in NYC

By BrooklynGarcon |

New York City is full of very expensive, sometimes excellent, but also often very pretentious restaurants. The city also has a myriad of humbler, often very pedestrian eateries. Where Biricchino stands out is that it is truly excellent, fairly priced, not one bit pretentious, yet still sophisticated. I have been eating here for over fifteen years and it truly is one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan. Tonight, I took my two children. My son, 11, had the Osso Bucco, which he devoured. My daughter, 9, loved her rigatoni with the homemade sausage. The ambiance and service are friendly, yet very professional. Biricchino is an outstanding restaurant for excellent yet simple northern Italian food. Although it is on a fairly non-descript block south of Madison Square Garden, the decor is comfortably urban and sophisticated. They make all their own cured meats, sausages, and hams. Truly excellent and will not blow a sinkhole through your wallet.

Large portions and delicious

By e s |

Very tasty Italian food. I would advise them to please play more Italian music. The Archies and Beach Boys didn't help with the atmosphere.

A delicious experience!!!

By djleek |

We really enjoyed our dinner. Starting with an assorted sausage appetizer, the different spices and flavors were so flavorful. The gnocchi were amazing. Delicate pillows of pasta topped with a delicious pesto sauce. Hats off to the woman tending the bar. The drinks were great!

How did I forget Biricchino

By John P |

I had not been to Biricchino in some time...I have no idea why. Well, that was a mistake. The food is excellent, the service great. The ambiance average but a great meal. Went w my wife and daughter who loved it. I had an old favorite , the rigatoni w sausage. Yummy. They had chicken. I am going back Monday w a friend. I will not forget Biricchino. Too good. Great value by the way although the wine by the glass is now up to the Manhattan average.

Delicious!

By Seviervillefoodie |

You must try the short ribs and polenta!!! Amazing! This restaurant was a great find! Ther service was exeptional as well! We will dine there again for sure!

Excellent little restaurant

By CarlyLL |

Excellent little restaurant that we came across by chance. Nice and quiet lunch before heading off the the airport at the end of our trip and the food was brilliant. Would def recommend

Good choice for the area

By scmnj |

If you want to stay close to the Garden, this is a good choice. Very simple restaurant. Food is good. Not many options in the menu. Home made pasta well cooked with tasty sauces.

Pork Chop Heaven!

By Sandy H |

We stayed at a hotel very close to this restaurant, and we wanted to eat somewhere close by. Two of us ordered the pork chop and one ordered the manicotti. We also had the seven piece sausage sampler. First, those sausages were out of this world good! They were very fresh and the flavor was oh-so-delicious! The pork chop, though, was the crowning jewel! It was cooked to perfection, and that crackly glaze on it made me want to lick my plate! The service was friendly and prompt, too. This is a place we will definitely go to again when we visit!

out of the way but busy little gem

By beentherejohn |

I figured this must be a good place when there was a line outside the door at opening. Accommodating staff to get in one person early when they had a number of upcoming reservations. The available meats on the menu is a little limited but a good range of pasta dishes. I had the Veal Osso Buco which was fall of the bone tender and excellent. Only comment for the manager is that after a nice meal I was quite annoyed by the check having suggested tips that included calculation including tax starting at 18%. That put a bad ending on a nice meal experience.

Authentic Food. Great Service.

By lloyd s |

Really enjoyed a great meal at this small, cozy Italian restaurant. Food was delicious from the house made sausage to the fantastic desserts. Service was perfect and with a smile. Very reasonable wine list. Great location for MSG events. Definitely check it out!!!!!

Pricey and nothing special

By Swiss S |

Although the decor is very quaint we found this restaurant to be the most expensive in NY State, with mediocre food and service. We would not return.

Nice place for drinks and dinner

By bruce t |

Dinner for four. Very warm and friendly local eatery. Nice wine list good martinis. Tasty salads. Love the fresh mozzarella and arugula. Pasta with broccoli rabb. Chicken francaise was delicious and a little different. Would go back for sure.

Great pasta, sausage & mozzarella

By Steve C |

eat here on all my trips to mid-town NYC (which are frequent). It's very conveniently located near my favorite hotel (Holiday Inn Express MSG). Started with the fantastic House Made Mozzarella and had the Sweet Sausage Ragù as the primi. With great wine and bread, it was a wonderful way to end the day.

Nice - Small - Italian

By Wendell R |

This was a nice Italian restaurant on 7th Ave. Being on a business trip, I was hoping for a nice quiet dinner with a good book, so I chose a small table near the kitchen door with decent light. Once the dinner came, I forgot about reading and enjoyed the food. It is not too highly priced, considering the location and is worth a visit.

Great Pre-Concert Dinner

By K M |

We had dinner before a concert on a Friday night. The traffic getting into the city was awful and we were running late. The restaurant offered to hold our table for us. The decor is rustic. The food was delicious. Our server made sure we knew what meals would take a long time to prepare and may hold us up. Only regret was that we didn't have time for appetizers or dessert.

Lunch with my daughter

By Renee B |

This little quaint place hidden off the beaten path nestled on the corner of 29th and 8th, was the most wonderful find in NYC yet.

Delicious, efficient and friendly

By CaliAmber |

I arrived Kate on a Wednesday and slid up to a stool at the bar. Within united I had a generous glass of Chianti Classico offered by a friendly server. On her recommendation I ordered butternut squash gnocchi. This also arrived within minutes and satisfied my hunger. I couldn't even finish the rich portion. This place is intimate, delicious, efficient and friendly. A great dining experience in Chelsea.

A great find

By Kevin V |

I found this small restaurant using another restaurant search engine and thought, okay it's close, let's try it. I am so glad I did. Very cozy atmosphere, great family story and the food is great. I had the sausage "appetizer" I use quotes only because it could be your main course. Five different house made sausages grilled to perfection, served with a bit of cucumber and arugula. Wow! My main course was the rigatoni alla carbonara, another Wow.

Fantastic Food

By Traveler32722 |

Out of all the restaurants in New York to choose from I dinned here two nights in a row ! The food is fantastic the atmosphere charming great wine list. Go early for a seat it fills up fast and stays busy all night.

Great Little Italian Restaurant

By Alison H |

Ate here before the theatre. We has a table outside under cover. The food and service was excellent.

American Italian close to Madison Square Gardens

By Sayer |

If I hadn't been invited by colleagues to eat here I would not have walked in as the outside is not inviting. Even once in there the decor is looking a little tired. However the atmosphere is of a local Italian restaurant. The menu could be found in Umbria and the eating can be in Italian family style with starters to share. The restaurant is known for it's locally produced sausages and these are worth trying as they come in a number of different varieties from simply tasty to quite spicy hot. There is a good range of pasta dishes including the tagliatelle with wild boar that I had. For those with a hearty appetite the pasta dishes will be seen as small, whereas, for me, it was an ideal size. The wine list has a good range of Italian wines to choose from and not at unreasonable prices. The service was good and our waitress was friendly but not intrusive and there was certainly no attempt to rush us out. This is not high end cooking, but rather as you might wish to you could cook at home.

Good restaurant

By 7September |

Enjoyed the Wild Board meat balls with the tagliatelle and the mozzarella. Service was friendly and good. Enjoyed the evening with friends.

PETITE BUT BUSY PLACE

By Clare A |

Stopped here for dinner one evening during our visit to NYC and loved it. It was extremely busy and we had to wait 20 minutes but we did just walk in off the street on a Saturday night! It was worth the wait. The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing - can highly recommend the pork chop with polenta ! Will definitely go back if we return to NYC

Delicious northern Italian food near MSG

By Patricia G |

Ate at this cozy northern Italian restaurant as a recommendation from a friend's father. It was spot on! Not too expensive and really enjoyed the homemade NE clam chowder and the night's pasta special with shrimp had a nice little "bite" to it. The bread and dessert cannoli were also very good.

So-So

By Mccalllife |

Not overly impressed, we went for dinner on a Thursday night place was busy, so I'm glad they squeezed us in, it's always nice to find a place busy as it's a good sign.. food was good mushroom risotto was nice pasta did not taste like it's freshly made? Boxed instead.. service was lousy not impressive, loud dining room when everyone's talking.. 😏 blah really

Disappointed and Surprised

By Lawrence C |

I've been to this restaurant many, many times over the past 20 years and was looking forward to revisiting some great memories last night. After looking at the comments from fellow diners, I figured everything would be fantastic and would try something new. Previously, I had been fortunate enough to partake in the special of the day - Petrale Sole. This is one of the most fantastic things you will ever experience! Unfortunately, last night the fish of the day was salmon. Since I frequently choose salmon, I decided to try another of my favorite Italian selections - Ragu. Not all Ragu is superb and I'll just say this tasted like it came out of a can, from the shelves of a Milano grocery store. Boring. In the past, you were offered a medley of bread and the Italian, seeded bread was to die for. It was so good, I hunted down the bakery in Brooklyn. Now, the bread is boring and has the consistency of rubber. I was surprised that the restaurant was remodeled since my last visit and it really looks nice and a very pleasant atmosphere. The wine list has nothing in the red category that is under $35, which is something that needs to be addressed. There are plenty of great wines from Italy, Argentina or Spain that are fantastic that could be offered for $25 or less and still would allow for a 50% margin for profit. Overall a good experience, but next time I call ahead and see if the fish-of-the-day is the Sole.

Great food

By donnajmox |

Dined with 8 ladies for lunch. Everyone enjoyed entrees with very good service. Would definitely recommend.

Great food but staff a letdown

By denis d |

I had read about this restaurant and its reviews since my last New York visit but was only able to visit on this occasion. Old style and perhaps a touch tired, but acceptable decor, it was Tuesday and quiet at 8.3o pm with two ladies in the far corner engaged in conversation with a male staff obviously friends, and only one other table with two gentlemen who left shortly after I arrived. The lady in the house attended to my order although I found her dialogue rather hastened for some reason, as I am a tourist I suppose I expected some explanations to come naturally. My starter is the broccoli rabe which is a leafy style just blanched with sliced garlic and chili flakes in olive oil, really tasty and interesting , and a good serve too. The main was the rigatoni with minced sweet sausage in a tomato ragu with basil and sun dried tomato. I thought the flavour of the sausage excellent and just right amount of sauce, no short change here, top marks I realise that the forte on their menu is their sausages... My host suggested a chianti which blended well with the meal But annoyingly and what spoiled the evening was the gentleman who passed me at the bar several times but without even a glance or a "hello" ...I made it a point of telling the lady about this, and after the ladies left, I was the only one there , no "hello" but to add insult he said it as i was walking out the door.....I told him my thoughts and that is why i am giving this old establishment a "3 " instead of a '4".....

great Italian cuisine

By russavi |

we were staying at a hotel on the same block. we left the hotel in search of a meal, and found this on the block. looked OK so we tried. the service was great. The food was delicious. Caesar salad was so fresh and was packed with delicious shrimps. Pasta was amazing. Just a friendly casual place for a good dinner in the city.

Authentic Italian

By Mahtanid |

Very close to my hotel and very pleasantly surprised by the genuine quality of food here. Friendly place with a good ambience. Gets very busy do reserve otherwise you might have to sit at the bar.

Excellent choice for a wonderful dining experience

By Keystone_Traveler |

We very much enjoyed our recent dinner here and would certainly recommend. All aspects of being here were wonderful: from first impressions upon walking in (lighting, warmth, dark tones, brick wall), decor, excellent service, quality of the food, presentation, and wine choices. Not far from MSG. Authentic northern Italian cuisine

Good food and relaxed atmosphere

By gaftb |

We tasted several dishes, all very good. Fresh and tasteful ingredients. Relaxed atmosphere, no loud music. I will come back!

Inviting environment, mediocre food

By Josh G |

The restaurant has a rustic feel, and there is a really cool bar. The food, however, left much to be desired. We ordered a 5 link sausage plate, since they boast about making their own homemade sausage. Some of the flavors were not good. The one with sage was tasty, but the others just didn't do the job. My dad ordered the manicotti, which was described as having "melted butter". He asked for that to be excluded, and I don't blame him. The manicotti had a decent flavor. I ordered the Chicken Milanese. It was totally flavorless. It also didn't look like typical chicken milanese -- it looked like a thin potato pancake with cheese. I had to use the extra sauce from the manicotti to give the chicken some sort of flavor. The service wasn't awesome, either. Lots of long lags between being seated and getting a drink order to the food order to the food. I also noticed that for the two tables of four next to us they brought out entrees at different times. At the table next to us 3 dishes came out, and they waited for almost 10 minutes for the fourth.

Try the Daily Specials

We visited this restaurant twice during our recent stay in New York City. It's very convenient to Madison Square Garden. The staff was very friendly. During both visits, the daily specials were our favorite part of the meal. If you're looking for an Italian option before a concert or game, it's a great option.

nice lunch option

By safar |

We had lunch there on our last day in New York before heading to the airport. We ordered a mozzarella, tomato and pesto salad and shared a chicken sandwich. Both were delicious and made with fresh ingredients. The restaurant has a charming decor and is busy with local clientele on their lunch break. Would try it again for sure.

Try it a second time .

By spyguyNyc |

Walk-in Friday night 7:30 in October and it was empty. I sat at the bar I'm having game Dark German beer with a charcuterie platter great bread and wonderful charcuterie. It's once again very expensive for what you get. This is the second time I'm trying this place to give it another shot. I have to say the manager before manager is as cold as ice not customer friendly. She looks upset and there's controversy with the staff on the floor which makes you feel uncomfortable.

Casual Country Italian in Chelsea

By Bryan P |

We went to this restaurant for after-work dinner among friends. The place is beautiful and has a very nice atmosphere. The place was quiet and was for the most part, smaller tables of tow and four, that could easily be put together for larger groups. We split an appetizer of italian cold cuts that were well sliced, nicely presented, and had the right acooutrements. Another appetizer was anheirloom tomato salad in vinagrette, that was also very nice. The main dish that I has was a special, which was pasta in a white sauce with peas and prosciutto. It was good. It was not great. My companion was digging in to a large plate of mussels in a marinara sauce, and seemed to relish polishing off the platter, while drinking a cold beer. He loved it! Maybe I should have gone that route as well. In conclusion, the place is beautiful, and not far from either the train station and/or Madison Square Garden. The service was quite good. Stick to the basics and the "red sauce" italian. .

Not enough quality and service

By Volpesce |

Three pasta’s were okay (like okay and not really great). The $12 ceasar salad with olives and croutons had literally 3 olives and 8 (small) croutons, salad and some dressing. Not enough quality for the prize. The waitress just started a discussion with a bored face when we commented on that 😞

Wonderful meal.

By J8313JCkarent |

Really lovely meal. We went as a family and everyone had a great meal . Service was wonderful. 5 stars

Really 4.5 stars great food and quaint atmosphere

By Tom P |

Really 4.5 stars. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because service was a little off, only because it seemed like they were short one server. Our poor waiter looked like he was doing the whole restaurant ( about15-20 tables) And we were a party of 8. Poor guy. I love this place....small,quaint, brick walls and a nice small bar, you know..manageable. The food was excellent. House made Mozzarella , sausages, charcuterie plate, fabulous Gnocchi, great roast chicken, even the plain pasta with a simple tomato sauce was really good. Wines by bottle were A little pricy but good. Dessert and coffees right on. So all in all this is a new favorite of mine and we drove and train'd it in from NJ to eat here. Just 2 blocks from Penn station. You won't be disappointed .

Great authentic Italian food !

By Emmanuel J |

We had a lovely supper at Biricchino ! The people were charming and the food was excellent! Real authentic North Italian dishes at reasonable prices. A great experience we can only warmly recommend !

Perfect pasta

By FlyAtNight |

We were a party of 4 for dinner. Our hotel was just steps away, so Biricchino was a good choice for our last NYC dinner. We all chose and shared different pasta dishes, but the one with the vodka sauce was the overwhelming favorite. Thank you Biricchino for a memorable meal.

Cozy setting and good food

By joeF_10 |

This restaurant is very convenient to Penn Station. The menu though not extensive has a good variety of Italian dishes as well as several specials. My wife had a Malfatti-veal stuffed ravioli and I had one of the specials---linguine with clam meat in a brandy tomato sauce. Both were excellent---we also had a salumeri board with delicious meats.

Amazing place

By Iyas A |

Every year I came to nyc The second thing I must to do after visiting time square is eating great meal at this Resturant I tow part the deli or the restaurant Special Italian food great menu Very good service with a good price The experience at all was amazing and highly recommended

Great on a snowy night!

By ksweet93 |

I was staying in NY on business and the polar vortex hit; 6+ inches of snow fell. I had no desire to go far and this hotel is on the same block as my hotel - the Holiday Inn Express. I ordered the Chicken Milanese to go. Food was very good and the service was fine. I ordered my meal to go, as I really wanted to hurry back to my room and relax. Everything was covered including my cutlery. No complaints here.

A Gem Hidden near MSG

By Montclairite |

Great sausage and pasta. Small with ambiance that reminds you of a restaurant in Italy. Will be back on my next trip into NYC.

Great neighborhood place

By trademark56 |

A plate of wonderful sausages, a bowl of perfectly made lentil soup, well season steak and broccoli rabe seamed then sautéed with slivers of toasted garlic. My husband and I had a wonderful meal on a weeknight. Not crowded, but there was a table of about 10 businessmen who were as well taken care of as us. So I would recommend this for both couples and groups. It's not a large menu, which is why I think they are able to focus on preparing very delicious food.

Authentic Italian food

By Jeremy W |

A family owned restaurant with a rustic warm interior. Well informed staff and a helpful explanation of the source of the ingredients. We both had pasta, the ravioli was a small portion of $17 and was really no more than a starter size. Carbonara was good without cream. Delicious tiramisu was $8. Not bad, we would try it again and perhaps try different dishes.

Order the specials

By Chris M |

We were a group of six and they were very accomadting. Service was ok but not fantastic. Starters were good and good advice on meat platter. For the the three that ordered the special(2 salmon, 1 pasta) rave reviews that it was cooked well and flavorful. However for the thre that orders fram main menu, not so good. Veal shank was dry, saltimboca chicken was weird from the start, but over cooked prosciutto and dry chicken made it just OK. Manicitto for or vegetarian was bland. Wine list so so. Stain on label has me questioning storage.

Enjoyed my dining experience

By Al W |

The restaurant was recommended by the hotel at which we stayed. Not having been to NYC in a long time it was good to have a recommendation rather than pick a place at random. The restaurant was in close proximity to the hotel which was a bonus as we went there the first night we arrived and not being familiar with the steets etc. The restaurant is not particularly large and has a reasonable ambiance. As we were 6 people in total they quickly put a couple of tables together to accompany us which was not as easy as it sounds as the place was as previously mentioned, not that big, and had quite a few patrons. We went with our waitresses recommendation of a shared large dish of various cured meats which was very tasty. For my entree I chose the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection, tasty and the meat fell fell the bone ( knife optional). Had a couple of bottles of Chianti to go with it,.. Shared :) We were the last people to leave the restaurant which was after their usual closing time however they left us to enjoy our evening. Not a cheap evening but somewhat typical for a restauarant of this calibe in NYC.

I love this place

By tek1025 |

I have been here a few times and every time I have had fantastic service and amazing food. Each time the head chef has come out and made sure that his patrons are happy too. They don't have the biggest menu but they are not trying to have one either. What they do, they do very well. They just do a great job. Nice wine selection, great food, excellent service. What more do you want? I read the one complaint they had here and that person is more than half the time unhappy. Ignore their complaint and go to this place. They really are great.

Dinner Before Rangers Game

By Diana D |

We picked this location due to its' good reviews on Trip Advisor and proximity to MSG and we were not disappointed. We arrived at 5:00pm just as the restaurant was opening. On game nights be sure to make reservations or you may be disappointed if you just show up at the door. Our server had the challenge of advising us that several of the main entries were not available. We ended up choosing the "Cured Salumi Plate" to share as an appetizer which was very good. We ordered the olives as a side dish, which were wonderful, yet the dish was large for just the two of us. We then ordered the Saltimbocca and Braised Angus Short Rib which were very tasty and large in portion size. Would highly recommend this restaurant for those who enjoy northern Italian cuisine.

I would come back again and again

By Maps64824529712 |

Bread was fantastic. Service was exceptional, wine was outstanding, the pear salad was very tasty and the main course was great!!

Incredible artisan Italian food

By marymcd |

We loved everything we selected here - the caprese with homemade mozzarella; homemade polenta with mushroom and red sauce, and the creamy risotto with mushrooms; and the desserts were all great. A small place with lovely charm, this was a great neighborhood find for us!

Impromptu stop for Italian dinner before sending friend off @ Penn Station

By bellabunny007 |

We were headed to a place on Hudson St when the uber driver said our bill would be over 40$ so we said we would find someplace closer to our destination and literally stumbled into this GREAT authentic Italian restaurant! The brick decor and quiet atmosphere and incredibly AWESOME Italian food WINS for my favorite restaurant in NYC at this point after a 3 week stay. We will return Friday for dinner before we depart!! Our server - younger girl with accent - was extremely sweet and quick as we asked for quick service due to train ticket. However - we didn't feel rushed at all. Apparently, Billy Joel plays at Madison Square Garden every month and that was going on yet they accommodated us as well as the people who had reservations or already packed restaurant. Love the name too!

Absolutely Fantastic!

By wingfoot67 |

We were in NYC for training and Biricchino was recommended by someone as a great place to go. Let me just say that we were not disappointed! The restaurant has a great atmosphere with a rustic feel. The service was excellent and everything we ate was delicious! In fact, the food was so good we couldn't stop eating! The three of us left more than full and wishing we could try more items form the menu. What we were able to try was cured meats, fresh mozzarella, and a variety of sausages as appetizers, followed by chicken Milanese, spicy chicken sausage pasta and smoked ribs in tomato sauce for the main course. Highly recommend if your in the neighborhood1

THIEVING WAITRESSES

By Denise Lazzeri |

VERY BAD AND RUDE WAITRESSES!!!! They decided the amount of tips to give to them and it was too high, compared to the others restaurants in NY. At the end, the cashier, started to insult us in spanish. Evidently, they need money, so they try and impose how much money people MUST give to them.

A slice of Italian heaven

By rddevita |

Really terrific. Cured meats/ Charcuterie board to start, sausages to follow, all "home" prepared, were above board. Pastas including carbonara, one of the best pork chops around, whole fish with creamy polenta, not a bad meal for our group. Terrific deserts incl orange gelato. Complimented by good wine list and full bar, welcoming service. And NOT expensive. Will go back.

Hidden Treasure

By Harriet H |

Around the corner of Seventh Avenue, on 29th Street, the unassuming entrance hides a first rate, moderately priced Italian restaurant. Pasta, soup, salad are my favorites. And when the check comes, with it are superb chocolate truffles, one for each diner.

Go early not later.

By Paul Mckay |

We chose to have dinner here after a long day and its closeness to our hotel. The problem was that we didn't get to the restaurant till about 9pm, which was a real shame because this restaurant does not stay open till late and everything felt a bit rushed. The restaurant is really nice, not too big. The food was excellent, the young lady serving was very nice. However it would have been more enjoyable to have been able to sit after the meal and have an extra glass of wine and a coffee. My recommendation is to visit this restaurant but to go early evening and not make the mistake of going later like we did.

EXCELLENT!!!

By luvs2travl139 |

Found Biricchino on line as we looked for a restaurant near Madison Square Garden. It was excellent....from the service to the dinner. Since they make their own sausages, we just had to try them. They were among the most delicious I have ever eaten. The Buccatini Amatricana was even better that I had in Rome! We will definitely return when we are in the area and highly recommend it!

OK choice around Madison Square Garden

By Ttttraveler |

This was our fifth and final dinner in NYC. I wish it would've ended on a higher note, but I think finding good Italian food is difficult because everyone has their own opinion of what makes good Italian food. We were in town for the Westminster Dog Show. We ate dinner here before the evening events. The location was good and the prices weren't terrible. We ate on the early side, but the restaurant was still pretty busy. Two of us had the burrata. It was a very large portion and would recommend sharing one order. The linguine with clams came with the shells, which I really enjoy because I know the clams didn't come from a can! The black risotto with shrimp was odd. It seemed like the rice was steamed instead of the creamy risotto texture. I've never made a black rice risotto, so perhaps this is the way it is supposed to be. I would not have called it a risotto. The crab cakes were boring and not very good. The calamari was fine. We did not have dessert. Our waitress was terrible. We had to flag down another waitress each time we wanted something. I would not recommend going here.

Very Good Place!!!

By adam r |

My friend was in from out of town and we went to Biiricchino on the recommendation of the DoubleTree hotel. The place is small but very warm and cozy. We had the Italian sausage links as an appetizer and they were really realy good and I'm from Brooklyn and sausage is a hobby of mine. We shared the manicotti and braised beef short rib and the manicotti was very good but the short rib was OUTSTANDING!!! The portions need to be bigger but the short rib was so unbelievable and it was served over really good polenta. if you don't know what that is, Google it.

Quiet Oasis away from the Madness

By H_GetsAround |

This is a nice restaurant that's quiet when everywhere else is not. That's not a bad thing - a quiet oasis in the middle of the madness on a Friday night was great. The quiet was only outdone by the food. Can't speak for everyone's meal, but the squash ravioli was like no pasta I'd had before - amazing. Portion was a little on the small side, but delicious. Average prices for Manhattan, and worth it for the peace, quiet and food. NB - not a huge menu - be prepared for small but perfectly formed.

A nice find in Chelsea

By LLopezNYC |

The trouble with telling people about a great little restaurant you've just discovered is that months later you may not be able to get a reservation. But I had such a lovely dinner with two foodie friends a few nights ago, that I feel it's only fair to share the love. Had one of my friends not suggested Biricchino Northern Italian, I never would have noticed it, tucked away as it is on a quiet side street in Chelsea. Not fancy but warm and friendly, a nice neighborhood spot. There is a new chef with a deft hand at blending unexpected flavors to great results. We had wine, appetizers, the salmon special, a couple of pasta dishes, appetizers, and more desserts than we should have. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Important to me, the desserts were rich and flavorful without being overly sweet. I'll be back!

Delicious Food, great atmosphere

By Michele P |

We walked into this restaurant and was impressed. The atmosphere is excellent with a brick wall decor. We sat at a table near the window which is our favorite. The waitress was friendly and the food and drinks were perfect after a long day. I ordered a side salad and the rigatoni. The side salad is large and the dinner was perfectly sized. We enjoyed it very much and would return when we visit NYC again.

Wonderful Food & Service

By haylchris26 |

We came here before a New York Ranger game, they restaurant is in a perfect location for a pre-game meal , only few minutes walk from Madison Square Garden. The service was great and the food and drink exquisite! We got a Salumi Tasting Platter to start with which was so tasty and our main was great! Definitely recommend!

Delicious Italian Meal

By Monica0209 |

We chose Biricchino because of it's location to MSG & the great reviews we read on this restaurant. We couldn't be happier with our choice. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. Our waitress was excellent. She knew the menu her recommendations didn't disappoint. There were 4 of us. We began with the charcuterie board & mozzarella with pesto and arugula. Both were fresh and delicious. Our boys, ordered the mussels and a pasta special with prosciutto and asparagus. I had at the chicken milanese and my husband ordered the chicken saltimbocca. The portions for dinner were plenty and the food was tasty and fresh. We will be returning to enjoy another meal soon.

Small, Cozy, Tasty

By herb v |

A small neighborhood kind pf place just a little off the beaten path. Although not too far from The Garden, Herald Square and the northern part of Chelsea. Dinner for 5 in the middle of the week. Started with several appetizers including a wonderful sampling of meats and cheeses, sliced perfectly and presented well. A very nice way to sample a variety of meats and cheeses to see what appeals to a specific taste. A variety of main courses - fish, meats, pastas. All very well prepared in decent size portions. Nothing was too overpowering and everyone was very satisfied with their choices. Knowledgeable and very good service, some nice suggestions for our meals. Many, many choices on 8th Avenue starting in Hell's Kitchen and working down to Chelsea. Some good, some just OK. Down in this area, seek out for some very good Northern Italian cuisine. Worth walking the extra block or two.

Great little place

By Windchill1k |

Found this little place on dining miles and it probably one my best finds. Maybe 20 tables max, so the atmosphere is quiet and the service is great. The chef makes their own sausage and the the short rib (on special) is outstanding. I've eaten here about 10 times in the last year and is always on my visit list in Chelsea. Small menu but with variety. A must visit and make sure you make reservations.

Lovely place but...

By LeonViajante |

Lovely restaurant, cozy and comfortable although it is small. Good wine list. The service was fast, and the waitress was excellent. The food is lacking. The olive oil tastes like a light version or diluted. We had the raviolis and pasta of the day. The ravioli sauce was thin, and the taste good but not noteworthy. The pasta was lacking taste. I asked for pepper, mozzarella (not offered). The garlic was not minced correctly and the pieces I found lacked taste almost like mini potatoes. Maybe fresh garlic and basil was needed We didn’t asked for dessert.

Dinner with the Saprannos

By Chris C |

A great family italian in New York, really good food, European size portions of quality food rather than huge US portions of average, good value, great ambiance and service, really close to Madison Sq, so a fab place to eat before a game or show , really recommend it.

aglio e olio was bad.

By David_Mardashev |

I’m always estimate Italian place by their quality of making aglio e olio - this simple traditional pasta. People say if restaurant unable to do it well - the rest of the menu is the same. And is was bad. Tasteless. 15$. My friend ordered Cesar. Not happy as well.

Very nice, great authentic food

By Hoosierhammer |

3 day trip to NYC, came across this place by luck. Delicious food, nice quiet atmosphere, note they make their own sausage and it is out of this world! Try the sampler for sure - great way to taste the variations.

Lovely pasta

By Yolande L |

A great little find. My pasta was so fresh and light. Only issue was due to timing. Our table was for 830 pm and it was clear that the chef patron wanted us out as soon as possible, we didn’t feel we could linger as he said ‘we are not a late place’. He could have had more money from us if he was more willing....

Fantastic service and amazing sausage!

By jesicanne |

I stopped into this eatery to grab a quick lunch while I had to make a business phone call. They were so accommodating and understanding! I had the special, which was absolutely amazing! Pasta with homemade sausage! Unbelievably good! I really enjoyed the whole experience!

Great setting for small business meeting

By edmondite |

We enjoyed the atmosphere here for a small business dinner. Comfortable setting, leisurely paced, good service. Mixed reviews on the entrees from our group. Great sausages and cheesecake!

Good average

By Stefan S |

The ambience is inviting, the food doesn't quite live up to its promise, and is relatively expensive for what is offered (e.g. a glass of red wine costs $16, for two people it was $80), but the salad with turkey strips is worth mentioning, it was excellent)

Fun an good food

By KARENSK_12 |

Terrific restaurant - well situated in Chelsea near lots of off off Broadway theatres. Excellent service - definitely requires a reservation

Authentic Italian Setting

By Prfct_Fan_Food_Srvc |

Being in the City is always fun, regardless of the reason. This time, it was a business lunch. My business contact chose an establishment close to the office. The setting and ambiance of this establishment was classic Italy. One wall was classic old red brick. The remainder was a dark weathered wood. We had a wonderful meal that included Chicken Piccata, classic Chicken noodle soup and a delicious Chianti. Everything was glorious and our server was efficient.

Nice Restaurant

By _Darker_PSL |

Second time stay in New York and keen to find decent places to eat rather than the usual big chain burger and chip joints. Biricchino is a lovely place to dine, I was really impressed with the decor. The menu isn't vast but there is enough choice. The only downside was the waiter came across a bit snooty or obnoxious almost as if because we are English in New York we aren't good enough to eat there. But for the amount of time we had to exchange pleasantries it didn't bother us.

Delicious pre-show dinner

By Laurent240 |

We found this restaurant close to our hotel and had a wonderful evening. It is a comfortable smaller size. The service was attentive with good suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed the sausage appetizer, the bread was delicious, entrees very nice ( I enjoyed the chicken marsala) and the chocolate mousse cake was devine. Would definitely return!

Disappointing

By bob z |

Went for dinner before a concert at MSG. Read good reviews so was looking forward to a good meal. I started off with the Pear Salad. It had very little flavor. My wife ordered the Caesar Salad which was just okay at best. For entrees, my wife ordered Chicken Milanese which was the worst she has ever had. I ordered a special for the night- manicotti. Small portion, decent flavor. Highlight of the meal was the decaf coffee at the end which was excellent. Without any drinks other than coffee the bill came to $93 with tip (I always leave 20%, not wait staffs fault food was disappointing. Not that the $93 is high, just not worth it for a very mediocre meal.

Great side street find

By beachtraveler2015 |

nice restaurant with exposed brick... good wine selection and limited menu but the pasta was so good... the waitress was very nice .... ghnocci with the pesto sauce was fantastic. It was not crowded on a Wed night so it was easy to talk to someone. The restaurant is small and if all the tables were filled it may be noisey.....

Tasty Italian

By CM Family |

We chose this restaurant because it was a few blocks walk from our hotel and had good ratings on TripAdvisor and Zagat. Cozy atmosphere, tasty salumi plate appetizer, good pasta choices, reasonable prices. We had good service and enjoyed our family dining experience. If you are looking for Italian food in the Penn station area, this is a good choice.

Local Gem

By Chetzi |

Small family owned and operated local gem. The food was excellent and most of the pasta is homemade (they will tell you if it isn't). Service was professional but friendly. Gnocchi was the best other than a couple of places in Italy. High quality tiramisu.

Nice meal

By Erico2709 |

Had the shrimp salad and grilled pork chop. The sauce with the pork chop was delicious. Also,,the bread came out fresh and hot. Both dishes were exactly how I liked it.

Delightful

By Mark M |

Had a delightful Friday evening at this family owned and run Italian restaurant. We had the mixed meat starter ($7 to have a very small amount of cheese was the only disappointment of the evening) then the penne and the rigatoni. A Pinot Noir from Oregon was spot on. Our server Galina was charming and we will certainly return to Biricchino.

Intimate setting, fabulous food and service

By budsybaby |

It is worth taking the time to find this little restaurant on 8th avenue. We just happened to come across it and loved the atmosphere when we stepped inside. There is a lovely bar, brick walls and soft lighting. I was with a girlfriend on a girls trip but thought at the time that it would be a great place for a romantic dinner. Our waiter was great and made wonderful recommendations. The special that day was lamp chops with roasted potatoes and asparagus. I almost switched to a pasta dish and the waiter told me that he really felt I would like the special. He was not wrong, it was cooked to perfection and delicious. We shared crab cakes for an appetizer and they were to die for! Definitely would recommend this restaurant.

So Yummy

By Peggy C |

We were looking for good Italian at reasonable prices, boy did we find it! The atmosphere is warm and cozy, the food was fantastic and the wait staff were friendly and professional! It was exactly what we were looking for and more. They took reservations, which was great for a small party. They seated us upon arrival. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had the Butternut Ravioli, which melted in your mouth, and my husband had the Short Ribs which were flavorful and super tender. With wine, the meal was a great price. The best dining experience of our trip!

AKA "Naughty little boys" restaurant - great hidden gem by the Penn station

By bellabunny007 |

We stumbled across this place as we were rushing, got out of cab and walked in. We ended up returning 2 other times before we left! Loved the rigatoni bolognese and actually crave it at home!! Truly is a hidden gem. Was packed when we went due to the Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden. Great charcuterie and wine. Quaint. Delicioso

Flavors to the Max.

By Joe85207 |

We started with a selection of sausage appetizers from their in-house Salumeria; beautifully presented and robust flavors. For the second course my partner had the grilled shrimp salad, which she enjoyed but said it was nothing special. I had the Malfatti and it was special; I could have of ordered another round of them and made it my dinner. Glad I didn't since the Satimbocca I had for the third course was outstanding. Unusual in that it was not veal, but a de-boned half chicken. My partner choose the ragu and loved it. Service was very good, prices were low, portions were large enough that we could not finish. One thing to look out for is their proximity to Madison Square Garden; on event nights the place is jammed. The night we were there a semi-final Hockey game was on the schedule and the fans were noisy. Thankfully they all left 15 minutes before game time, and the atmosphere became instantly pleasant for our meal.

A nice place with decent food...

By Brian C |

The atmosphere was cozy, the service staff was nice and happy but not very attentive. The food was good but not great. The prices were fine. Overall not a bad experience just not a stellar one. If you don't want to break the bank on a 4-5 star restaurant but want a good meal in a warm and inviting place... check out Biricchino.

Just right

By Mike D |

Had a quick dinner here. Very courteous waitress. Food was very good. A very good option before a concert or show.

Exciting collection of tasty dishes

By Terry B |

As usual, the selection of dishes was wide-ranging. Our pasta selections were both well-prepared and tasty. The sausage selections and inclusions in many of the dishes are noteworthy. The Bellini cocktail is prepared perfectly here. Service is always prompt and efficient.

Poor service experience

By Linda63_65 |

I went to Biricchino with my three grandkids on June 26, 2019. We all ordered pasta dishes. I have food allergies so I explained to the server that mine needed to be gluten free, tomato free and spice free. I asked if I could just have some mushrooms and she said she was not sure because the kitchen was very busy. How could they have been too busy to slice a couple of mushrooms? The table to our left was set up for a party of 10, but they were not there the whole time we were in the restaurant. I got a bowl of plain pasta, but I did not complain because my teenage grandkids would have been mortified?. The teens thought the food was ok, but their mom's (she's not Italian) puttanesca was better. I called back a few days later and asked to speak to a manager. The woman said she was the manager and the wait staff was correct, the kitchen was too busy. A few days later I went to Trattoria Bianca which was very busy because of a Billy Joel concert that night. I ordered the same gluten free pasta with just mushrooms and was told, no problem. It was very good; I suggest if you need gluten free or have other allergies you should go to Trattoria Bianca.

Night at Madison Square Garden

By reillyelmo |

I have been going to the Garden for many years and got a recommendation from my daughter for Biricchino. Quiet, cute place off corner of Eighth Ave. They do 40 different homemade sausages and we sampled seven as an appetizer. Nice Milanese and veal ravioli for entrée. they do pasta really well with great red sauce. wines by the glass were reasonable and a good pour. Barbera was delicious with the meal. Great little spot.

Reminded me of being in Northern Italy

By Scott F |

To say you a Northern Italian restaurant and actually be one is a whole different story and Birrichino walks the walk. A must eat. In an area I have always found light on good restaurants to entertain, this place is gem. I have taken many a client here and neither I nor my clients have ever been disappointed. There is something on the menu for everyone. The owner is always walking the newly renovated dining room during lunch to greet diners with a smile.

Total disappointment

By Emma P |

I came to have a nice family diner and unfortunately the service was definitely not there. I presume the waitresses noticed that we were foreigners and already planned to include the 18% gratuity in our ticket (table of four). Indeed, they were present for the other american customers but we had to wait the end of our meal (moment to give the check) to be able to get some attention and finally have our glass refilled. What a disappointment! We will not consider to return to this establishment anymore.

Local Italian

By Happy T |

This Italian restaurant, close to and recommended by Affinia Manhattan Hotel, was perfect. On a budget holiday in a snowstorm, they were open, generous and friendly. Each day they gave us extra tasters and samples to help us decide on our choice. The food was rich , fresh Italian. The decor warm cosy Italian. The service friendly and helpful, with one particularly amazing waitress.. The cost reflected similar venues across NYC, but with extras thrown in

LOVE this place!!

By Kelly V |

This is a hidden gem. We were walking by on our way to another restaurant and stopped by and looked at the menu. After noting that they made their own cheese, their own sausage, and locally sourced the majority of their ingredients, we decided to eat here instead. Our dinner was amazing, and the hostess was so nice. The sausages were divine, as was the house made mozzarella appetizer. The bread was fabulous, and so were the drinks. I keep thinking about this place, and can't wait to go back to NYC to eat there again.

Dinner and drinks. Having lived in New York for almost 8 yrs (a while back), I chose biricchino because I wanted to feel back at home...and it didn’t disappoint. Their staff is old school charm - smart, polite, knowledgeable, committed. Their food is warm and comfortable. And the atmosphere wants you wishing all nights were as relaxed and charmed.

The chaser salad is a welcome crunch

By rach k |

A lovely restaurant and the servers very kind and patient. We did over stay our welcome. However the food was OK. I had the Cacio e Pepe and we shared a chaser salad. The salad was refreshing and a welcome crunch to the meal. The dressing was delicious.

Great one highly recommended

Excellent Dinner

By Sondra P |

We stopped here, did not have reservations and they found a table for us. Dinner was excellent, large portions and very tasty. Feel like we lucked out with this place. My only suggestion is that warming the bread up before serving would have been better. Loved the chocolate truffles with the check. If in the area, we would eat here again.

quaint

Selected this place because it was one of the restaurants close to MSG and we love Italian food. Manicotti was delicious. My husbands dish was just OK and the portion was small even for me. Wines were expensive. Service was good. Disappointed because of the limited menu.

Great little reastaurant

By John S |

I've been gone to Salumeria Biellese for years to pick up few homemade sausage links or one of those delicious fresh mozzarella and prosciutto sandwiches, but only recently I decided to turn around the corner and give Biricchino a try. It's a small space and on this particular night quite busy, but the service was fast and efficient. Had the risotto with sausage, creamy and perfectly seasoned, and the ossobuco, juicy and tender, perfectly braised. Wished I had space for the cheesecake. Next time soon. Fairly priced and highly recommended.

Great way of having dinner in NYC

By RogierSlag |

We were looking for a nice restaurant with a good choice and ambiance. Biricchino surpassed these expectations easily. The food was stunning, service was very well and the ambiance great. For us, this was the highlight of fine dining during our trip in New York! Tip: make a reservation though, we had to wait a few minutes

Lovely food, great place

We arrived in NY during the horrific thunderstorm. Had reservations across town but abandoned getting there as warnings of flash flooding & roads gridlocked. Only came here as it was right next to our hotel & we were too jet-lagged to battle the biblical monsoon. Glad we did though. Food & ambience lovely. Staff so friendly. Our server was lovely & we had a laugh debating the plural of cannoli !! (Sounds lame but we had a giggle). Literally a gem that we stumbled upon by accident.

A taste of Tuscany in nyc

Had dinner here a few nights ago with some friends before an eagles concert at msg. We couldn’t decide between the rigatoni and sausage or the pasta dish wild wild boar meatballs. Our server spoke to the chef, who put together an amazing combination of both dishes. It was outstanding, along with the fresh bread, desserts and terrific service. Highly recommend but suggest making reservations.

Quaint Italiano In Chelsea

By MOBeachDoc |

This restaurant was very quaint. They specialize in northern italian cuisine. The food was very well presented. The salad was plentiful and bursting with flavor. We had a wonderful Chicken dish for the main course that was robust and filing. The wait staff was prefect. If you're in the Chelsea area make sure to put Bricchino on your must try list, you won't be disappointed.

Sausage lovers delight in Chelsea

Had dinner one recent evening at Biricchino. It was crowded because of a Rangers game at nearby Madison Square Garden, but I had good service and a very nice meal at the bar. Biricchino is known for its sausages, so I had a plate of several different varieties plus a salad and I wasn't disappointed. Reasonable price, good service, good food

Great food, drinks, and friends!

Isabella was amazing! We had 6 people, and she gave us such amazing, personal service. We used a Pulsd, and it was the best experience. We ordered so many drinks and food. Everything tasted perfect! Will def go again!

Memorable meal near MSG

By MABM917 |

We chose Biricchino because of its proximity to MSG. For that and many other reasons it exceeded expectations. We started with a sausage sampler (5 tasty sausages for $10) which we easily shared among three of us. Mussels in a rich tomato broth, shrimp Caesar and manicotti plus awesome bread, wine and coffee made this a memorable meal. I'd def go back!

Great homemade sausages selection

We visited here for a business dinner with a large group. The service was really good and the staff were nice and friendly. The Gin and Vodka martinis were also very good. They make their own sausages and cured meats which the non vegetarians really enjoyed. There wasn't a massive choice for vegetarians but the ravioli that I had was really good. Nice size portion for a US restaurant. It has quite traditional decor but that adds to the atmosphere. It isn't very big so I would recommend booking.

Pleasant find in the city that never sleeps

By Jesus M |

Hunted for a dinner spot to spend my last night in NYC. Read some reviews and this place was a short walk so I tried it. Food was excellent. I asked the waitress to surprise me since I couldn't make up my mind. Started with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella and highly recommend that to anyone. Try it with some fresh bread and olive oil. Pasta dish was also tasty. Flavors were not over the top or over-sauced. I saw many people having an assortment of dishes so can't recommend what is their best. I never have dessert but this time I decided to and landed on tiramisu. A splurge for me but exceptional! Washed down with great post-meal coffee and a total sense of happiness in my find for the evening. I will return here many more times. You will too.

Great little find in NYC

I travel to NYC often & Biricchino's is one of the best finds. It is a small Italian restaurant near Penn Station- small, quiet, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices & great food- the homemade sausages are amazing & the rigatoni pasta dish is simple, but delicious.

Great value, friendly staff, fabulous homemade Pasta

By Joe J |

This little bistro-style restaurant is a real find in a city overflowing with over-rated, under-performing Italian restaurants. VERY reasonably priced entrees and cocktails - dinner for two with drinks and tip under $100.00 in NYC is almost unheard of! Convenient to MSG and Penn Station. Don't miss this gem of a restaurant, and try the Osso Bucco - as good as any I've ever had!

Very average Italian

I had the sweet sausage ragu. The pasta was chewy and the sausage was almost non existent. Portions are not very big. The atmosphere is nice for such a small place.

Osso Buco lovers delight in a "needy" area of NYC

By STEPHENCM |

We found this restaurant by accident walking from the parking lot to our destination. I've forgotten where we were going but this place was the REAL FIND. Historically it houses a salumeria and sallmi factory that has since moved its operation to Hackensack. The products of the production are thoroughly enjoyed on the two salami tasting platters offered as appetizers--absolutely delicious assortment of salamis, sausages, and pickled delights. I have become so enamored of the osso buco here that it will be my comparator for all future Italian restaurants and that WILL be a challenge for any competitor. My guests thoroughly enjoyed their saltimbocca and fresh fish dishes--I don't share my osso buco with anyone. This is a trip to Northern Italy so the usual marinara pasta dishes do not occupy a space on the menu. Desserts are well chosen from poached pears and frutta di bosco with italian gelati.

Great Italian lunch!

Please do try the grilled sausages, they were amazing. The manicotti was so good, as were the butternut squash gnocchi. Will go again when we are close, it was a great find!

Good food near MSG

By Liltrain31 |

We had a quick bite at Biricchino before heading to a show at Madison Square Garden. The drinks (wine and negronis) were very good and the food was also tasty. The pastas were fresh and good portions -- enough for a share. We will be back for next time we are going to MSG for a show.

Great food in a great little place

By bus_traveler_c |

Really enjoyed dinner with a friend of mine at Biricchino. Appetizers were reasonably priced and the portions were large, wine pours were generous, and the service was efficient. I was not excited about my Carbonara that was so drenched in sauce as to be soupy but everything else was really good. The staff was typical friendly but not friendly New York so no major points there but overall a nice meal.

Good Food near Madison Sq. Garden

By David L |

The area around Madison Squre Garden is not known for it's restaurants. This little place a few blocks away makes good food in a relaxed atmosphere, makesa very good choice if you are looking to stay in the area. We started with the cheese plate and salumi plate. The cheeses were good as was the portion. The salumi plate of cured meats was delicious. We did not try the sausages but the people at the neighboring table did and seemed to really enjoy them. We all had pasta dishes many used one of ther cured or smoked meats. Although none of them were truly outstanding we all enjoyed out meals very much. We would consider them real comfort food. The wine list was ina little disarray due to hurrican Sandy as one of the largest wine distributors was severely affected. Still we were about to find nice selections. There was no rush and we felt comfortable and welcome. Would return in a second.

Intimate venue with great food

By Bruce in West Oz |

My wife and I took ourselves to dinner here for the last night of our NYC holiday. It was a good decision. Room is not all that large, but comfortable, dimly lit and, when we were there, warm, without being stuffy. Service was unobtrusive and professional; food arrived within a reasonable time. Drink prices (wine) were no more expensive than elsewhere in NYC. My wife's meal was a homemade veal pasta. She raved about it; said it was the best she'd ever tasted. I had a breaded chicken which was a wee bit dry and a squeeze of lemon juice would have given it a boost. My wife loved the affogato, and the limoncello we had was better than any we had in Italy. It was worth the money.

Dinner before a concert

By Leslie B |

We found Biricchino because we needed a restaurant near MSG. We lucked out !! Very rustic decor ( brick walls, tin ceiling, wood floors )....not a huge menu, but a good variety....they are known for curing their own sausage, so we had a sausage sampler appetizer....excellent ! Our party ordered chicken piccata, ravioli and wild boar meatballs with pasta....all were delicious.Dessert was tiramisu, profitteroles and cheesecake......fabulous. The bill came and I was very pleasantly surprised. Would highly recommend Biricchino for a great dinner before attending any event at MSG.

Cosy Italian Restaurant

Cosy Italian Restaurant. The staff is very friendly and are very good at making you feel welcome. Good pasta dishes (we only had pasta).
